when finnick was super young his dad taught him how to make the famous cinnamon pancake recipe that has been in their family for generations which became his absolute favorite thing to make for literally any occasion or just a random sunday morning

not a day has passed since annie was fourteen where she hasn't been wearing black nail polish

shortly after finnick won his games, mags knitted him this blue and gold sweater that had a very intricate pattern on it, but since he was fifteen at the time, he quickly grew out of it. years later, annie found it towards the bottom of his dresser drawer and it became her favorite clothing item to wear

annie has long wavy hair that gets suuuper poofy whenever it’s humid or if she goes to bed with it wet

annie gets chronic migraines so finnick has discovered every remedy under the sun to help her but her favorite one and the one that has proven to be most effective is scalp massages

they're both insanely tall. im talking like finnick is 6'6 and annie is 6'0. i won't be taking any criticism on this one.

annie is a horsegirl. i don't even know if horses are in district four, but if they are, she's obsessed with them. she saw one of the wealthier district four citizens riding one on the beach when she was like five years old and her life was permanently changed after that.

they're both the youngest sibling in their families. annie has two older sisters and finnick has an older brother (i have an analysis about this that i've been working on in my drafts so more on that later)

finnick is the most clumsy human ever up until his son is born so then that title is passed down to him (heavily inspired by that one clip of sam claflin falling over because he tripped over a rock in cf which was left in the movie)

they're both morning people but finnick's more of a let's-stay-in-bed-until-noon type of morning person while annie is a let's-go-make-breakfast-and-watch-the-sunrise type of morning person

annie has the weirdest pregnancy cravings, but finnick insists on trying them all with her. she's mortified by how willing he is to eat the strangest things like sardines dipped in mustard or something so she's always like "oh my god you do not have to eat that just because i'm craving it" but he does every single time

in a finnicklives!au, they have a second wedding on the beach outside of victor's cove where it's just the two of them. they loved their wedding in district thirteen and all that it stood for, but having one with just the two of them felt like an official beginning to starting their lives together after the war was over

Employee A: Oh! Easy question. I like that. It is an honor, you know. It's what I thought when I joined, and it still is now. But also, I did not expect that SI is a place where we are allowed to prioritize things like family. Like last time, I left my phone on silent at my desk cause I had to go to a meeting. My kid at home was having an emergency and I couldn't be reached. But apparently, Friday, Mr. Stark's AI, keeps track of phone vibrations so she made the report and someone came to notify me. I didn't even know there was a protocol for that. Turns out my daughter was having her period for the first time! And I'm a single father so I had no idea what to do and I was panicking. Next thing I know, an SI nurse came and apparently she was sent by Mr. Stark to walk me through how to help. Apparently, Fri also caught my panic rumblings and triggered 'YOU ARE NOT ALONE PROTOCOL' or something. (*laughing*) The next week, we received an official email introducing a new department called Human Care. They encourage everyone to reach out if we ever find ourselves out of our depths on non company emergency matters.

Employee B: Eight years, two months, six days and counting.

Interviewer: What's the weirdest thing you've witnessed here?

Employee B: (blanks out)

Employee B (struggling to think): Ahm. Really? Just one? Er- That's a tough one. Maybe that one time they set up a room for everyone to try lifting Thor's hammer? Or wait, no, maybe that time there when flying roombas were everywhere following Mr. Stark and reminding him to eat? Or when a villain came via the vents but before he could come down, Hawkeye accidentally hit him with pepper spray? I don't know, man. Weird things happen a lot. We're used to it by now.

Interviewer: Do you feel safe working here?

Employee C: Yeah. The avengers live here. But to tell you the truth, I think Happy Hogan and his black tux team of agents scare all the potential bad guys away. I heard rumors that Black Widow personally trains them. Like, I know two of them. Jake, for instance. He's like a giant, and he is intimidating but I saw him crying one time and when I asked him why, he just said Mr. Hogan.

Interviewer: Which avenger have you met?

Employee D: Oh, I've met two of them. Captain America and Thor. It was odd but one time, they were in the cafeteria and carrying trays of food and I do not mean just one each. Nope. Like, a ton! Like they're feeding an army. But it makes sense. Can you imagine the workout? With bodies like theirs? And the battles they go to? Man, if I have to save the world from aliens, I'll probably need the same nutrition.

Employee E: Ahm...We all know they're all badass. But kindest, I think Spider-Man. Last Thursday, it was raining, and then Spidey suddenly came all wet and holding a box and I'm gonna quote him now. He said, "Friday, can you please ask Mr. Sam Wilson Falcon sir to come down? The shelter is close and I have a box of puppies and I really, really want to bring them up but Mr. Stark is gonna ban me from the lab again."

Interviewer: Aww. So what happened next? What did they do with the puppies?

Employee E (grinning): Falcon came down, alright. But he came with Iron Man who zoomed past everyone to drag Spidey to the penthouse. I am not sure what I heard but he was muttering about oven toasters and frozen spiderlings? In the end, aome employees volunteered to take care of them. But I believe two of them are at the avengers' floor. We saw Mr. Stark ranting about puppy paw paint marks on his armani.

Interviewer (gasps): Oh my. Was he mad?

Employee E (ends up laughing): Mad? Try grunting fondly? Peter really likes those puppies. Mr. Stark tried to act like he hates them but really, he adores everything about the kid, puppies included. He even had custom made collars with avengers logo made for them.

Interviewer: I'm sorry? The Winter Soldier was asking directions to where?

Employee F: The Lego Store.

Interviewer: How would you describe the workload? Do you still get work life balance?

Employee G: I guess it depends. I work in R&D and we're all nerds there. So like, we're typically busy but it's play for us. Some days, we're really cramped with work, mostly when deadlines are nearing or sometimes, we're just really in the zone, we do not want to stop. Peter activated 'NIGHT NIGHT PROTOCOL' for that. Had Fri lock us out of the lab and we had no choice but to go home or nap at the sleep wing. And would you believe? After the product launch, we got emails on mandatory vacation leaves with bonus to spend! Like, who does that? So yeah, it's cool working here.

Peter (stares quizzically, dumb-founded): Uhhh-....Look, sorry, I think I'm in the wrong room. I'm not- Maybe you got the wrong questionnaire? I'm just an intern-

Interviewer: Oh. Wait. Is it top secret then? Sorry, I was told of your identity as Mr. Stark's kid so I thought I could ask. But if you're not comfortable-

Peter: WHAT!?? Who said that? They're probably just joking.

Interviewer (chuckles nervously): Ms. Potts did actually.

Peter (freezes): Oh.

Suddenly the door opens and Tony walks in.

Tony: Hey kid, and Ms. Carrenland. How's the interview going? Thought I'd drop by for moral support, you know.

Peter (looks torn, but excuses himself to go to Tony): Uhm, Mr. Stark, can I talk to you for a second? Look, sir, ahm, I think there's been a misunderstanding. The interviewer asks me how it feels to be your heir. Like that's real. I don't-

Tony (has his brows rising to his hairline): Kid. Peter. Breathe.

Peter (groans and sighs embarrassingly): I just didn't want to lie! They mistook me for someone else. It was a misunderstanding!

Tony (smirking): It's really not.

Peter: What?

Tony: Kiddo, I was the one who gave Pep the approval to sign the questions. And really, you've been managing the R&D department and shadowing Pep at management for a year now. You never wondered why I make you do that?

Peter: Oh.

Tony: Yup. Genius child here.

Peter: I just wanted to help. You seem stressed out with the Avengers' work and dealing with the government. I thought I could lend a hand. I didn't- I don't expect you to- I'm not worth that, Mr. Stark.

Tony (scoffs): I beg to differ. Look, I'll be honest with you. Even if you aren't interested in the company, it's still gonna be yours. Look around you, kid. Do you think I let just anyone go around with a free pass at my tower? You have a room at my home. This place is your home, as where as everywhere else that I own. Plus, it's another motivation for you to take care of yourself when you go out as Spidey. Imagine all our employees. They need you, kiddo.

Peter (mumbling softly): I'm just Peter Parker.

Tony (smiles and pats his shoulder): And that is why I chose you.

Five nights at Freddy’s but it's Batman.

If you were expecting this to make sense....Don't.

I started ranting about this while half asleep.

Barbara Gordon is Charlotte "Charlie" Emily.

She is killed by Joe Chill aka the Joker aka William Afton aka the Purple Guy.

Her father, Jim Gordon aka Henry Emily is devastated. He has no idea how this occurred.

Not a clue.

Totally didn't see the purple car at the crime scene.

A purple car he sees every morning.

... Nope.

He goes to the cops but it's Gotham so they don't do shit.

However, because it's Gotham Batman shows up to help.

But unfortunately no one knows who killed poor Babs so gotta do some investigating.

Also there's been a string of dissappearances around the restaurant.

People are loving calling it "the missing children's incident."

And the cops are doing nothing so Batman is also investigating that and wonders if the two are connected.

Bat's makes the great decision to go undercover as a nighttime security guard.

And despite the fact he is very clearly billionaire Bruce Wayne in a security uniform.

No one recognises him.

He is now Mike Schmidt.

... You know still a better name for his cover than Matches Malone.

And because I recently watched Batman: The Doom that came to Gotham.

Great, one of the weirdest things I've ever watched.

... Don't watch it if you like Talia because... Yikes.

Anyway, so Bruce is very much on his fear works because villians are superstitious and cowardly.

I don't believe in magic, everything can be explained by science.

...And than Golden Freddy bursts into the office.

Had to rework a few things than.

It takes him less than 5 nights to figure it all out.

Beats the shit out of and gets Joe Chill arrested.

But it's Gotham and FNAF so it doesn't even go that far.

Not that they know for years later.

During this time Bruce adopts another kid, Jason.

Yeah Dick is here but he left to another city.

He's officially the smart one.

No he doesn't have a character equivalent he's just... There.

Jason however later turns out to be Jason Chill aka the son of Joe Chill.

Aka this worlds Michael Afton.

Gets wind his real father isnt Willis Todd but Joe Chill.

Goes after him, despite him being in hiding for years.

Does this by working at Fazbear Frights as a nighttime security guard.

Witnesses Joe Chill destroying the animatronics.

Releasing the spirits and causing Joe Chill to back into his Spring lock suite.

Multiple springlock failures occure.

Jason gets on tape that he's the murderer and killed Barbara Gordon.

Bruce and Jim show up and together they set the place on fire with Joe Chill's body inside.

But no body is ever found.

One of the old locations starts up again.

Bruce finds out Joe Chill had another son, and adopts him.

Leaving out the whole... We set him on fire.. Maybe.

This kid is Tim Chill aka the crying child.

Who Jason likes to mess with and Tim messes with him back in turn.

Jason plays a seemingly harmless prank on Tim... That he ends up taking too far.

And in his defence no one knew that the Golden Freddy animatronic had the jaw strength of a shark.

Bruce goes into mourning.

The body goes missing.

Jason wanting to fix things does his own investigation and finds Circus Baby's entertainment and rentals.

Ran by Chill robotics.

Turns out Joe Chill decided to literally put his child back together.

And infused Baby with his remnant.

His lil clown.

Though both sides of Tim, both Joker Jr and the brother of Jason fight over Jason's fate.

Whether he should live or die.

Joker Jr I mean Baby wins and Jason is scooped.

Dick, who was staying in Gotham for Tim's funeral, realises Jason has gone missing.

And goes out to search for him.

Finding the his brother now a disturbing shade of purple and an undead zombie.

Gets Jason back home, Jason is basically catatonic only repeating "You won't die, you won't die" over and over.

Bruce gives him a big hug, apologising for blaming Jason and pushing him away.

Though Jason is convinced Tim's fate is his fault.

He ends up puking up Ennard, which Bruce captures and puts in the Batcave.

They take what's left of Baby and upload Tim's consciousness to a robotic version of him Jim just... Had on hand.

Along with a robot Barbara.

... Yeah don't, don't worry about it.

Jason apologises profusely, Tim calls him a dumbass, things are finally right with the world.

Butt this isn't enough for Jim who realises an animatronic can't replace his Barbara.

Decides if I can't have my happy ending none of you can.

Has a redo birthday party for Tim and sets the place on fire.

... Except it does literally nothing and Bruce shoves him in Arkham and just takes Babs back with him.

Way to go smart guy.

Damian Wayne aka Gregory shows up at some point. He got told he couldn't go to the pizzaplex.

And went anyway.

Gave everyone a heart attack, stole Glamrock Freddy and made a friend in Cassandra Cain aka Vanessa.

A trained assassin who Joe Chill was trying to hypnotise into killing for him.

They tried to kill each other if the cause of a night so they're friends now.

Bruce adopts another child all is well with the world.

Until Jonathan Kent aka Cassie shows up because of a fake message luring him to the pizzaplex saying Damian was in danger.

The mimic gets it's butt kicked, Bruce lectures Clark about not keeping an eye on his son.

The hypocrite.

And everyone goes home.

Oh and Jim and his wife got divorced when Babs died.

His wife taking and raising their son, James Gordon Jr aka Sammy Emily.

Who's just off living life and is still a serial killer.

Soo... Yeah.

writing meme about me!

no official tag but thought maybe time to share more about myself! mostly because I want to know more about you all as well, and @sperrywink extended an invite to seblaine mutuals so I will do the same!

How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I discovered it on accident as most of us do - I was on the Glee wiki I think? There was a link to select fanfics on the ship pages at the time, and I started reading one of the Finchel ones, and it was game over for me lol - I started writing my own a while after that, and I participated in a variety of Glee RPGs that inspired me to write other characters. I was in one of those massive Glee RPGs in like 2011 on fanfiction.net, and it was very formative for me in terms of connecting with the rest of the fandom and wanting to do more of that. RPGs are also so great for exposing you to ships you never would've liked or even thought of before, although all my current ships came from elsewhere lol

oh, and there was the whole escapism from family shit that was going down at the time thing - that was a huge factor for sure

2. How many fandoms have you written in?

I've almost exclusively been writing for the Glee fandom since the beginning, although the ships I've written for have changed drastically throughout that time. I've dabbled in some other things as well depending on my special interest at the moment, but I always come back to Glee. Other fandoms I've written for include The Outsiders, Degrassi, How I Met Your Mother, 13 Reasons Why, Girl Meets World, and Skam ! none of these are published anywhere anymore though as far as I know, it's all far too embarrassing (and yes I'm aware that's the most bizarre mix of fandoms ever)

3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

at least 12, I wanna say I started around 2012ish?

4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?

I genuinely think it's about equal, but it comes in waves. Sometimes I'm reading more, sometimes I'm writing more. I'm almost always working on something and I'm also almost always in the middle of reading a long fic.

5. What is one way you've improved as a writer?

I think I've gotten a lot better at writing comedy and ensemble dialogue. I like writing the silly goofy scenes with large friend groups a lot, especially when I feel like I've nailed the character's voices enough that I don't even need dialogue tags to know who said each line.

6. What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

Ohio geography lmao - I like always have Google Maps pulled up trying to map out different locations and how far drives would be, etc. I also have researched a ton about various colleges (especially for my current WIP since these characters are actively applying for college rn) and France (never been there, constantly have to write stuff that takes place there).

7. What's your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?

I genuinely do love all comments! I especially loves one that are specific/mention parts of the chapter or the fic that they enjoyed or thoughts that they had while reading. I also like chatting about the characters and canon and their predictions/hopes for the rest of the fic. The length doesn't really matter so much - I love long comments and short comments, and I try my best to respond to all of them.

8. What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

Idk I kinda write a lot of infidelity and toxic relationship stuff. Seblaine is the main ship I write for nowadays, and the nature of their relationship lends itself to a lot of infidelity in their process of getting together. I also just love writing angst, so even when I'm writing established relationships, they end up being sort of toxic throughout especially given the traits of both characters. I just find it more fun and probable to write a slightly toxic relationship than a 100% healthy one.

9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

PWP - I struggle so much with writing smut, although I like to think I've gotten a bit better at it recently. I'm also trying to get better at writing ensemble fics, but it's definitely a struggle for me to give each ship/character enough attention. And I'm pretty awful at world building, so anything remotely fantasy, sci fi, etc. is a huge struggle for me.

10. What is the easiest type?

slow burns! I've gotten so much better at delaying the characters from getting together for a really long time in fics and it's soooo fun. I prefer a character centric slow burn with lots of sexual tension and an arc that involves characters moving from enemies/friends/strangers to lovers over the course of many months or years.

11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

I like to write outside of my own home - something about physically relocating makes me way more productive. I write a ton on planes (I travel a lot for work). I also love a good coffee shop, Panera, park, library, etc.

I write in Word and publish to AO3 - used to write in Google Docs but it's so slow and laggy so I much prefer Word. Used to publish on fanfiction.net but I will never go anywhere else now that I've transitioned to AO3, the far superior fanfic site lol

I am most productive with writing either during the day if I'm somewhere other than at home or in the middle of the night in bed - my most productive hours at home are between like midnight and 3 am

12. What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

I recently got over my fear of PWP and published a one shot that I'm very proud of. I have many ideas for things similar that I'd like to work through in the future!!

Most of this is fandom specific though - I'm super intimidated to write for big fandoms because I've gotten so comfortable in the Glee fandom, especially writing Seblaine which has a relatively small audience in comparison. I'd love to write Marauders, but that fandom is HUGE and very intimidating because there is so much lore and fanon to mess up. I hope to give it a shot one day though!

13. What made you choose your username?

it's a song lyric! lust hurts comes from the song "Barcelona Boots" by Arlie - the lyric goes "Lust hurts, could you bear it for me?" and I thought that was very fitting for someone like me who's obsessed with romance in fiction but can't be bothered with it in my real life

Warning: Avoid Mod the Sims Forums

So, this has got to be the weirdest, most embarrassing turn of events for me, but I had to get this off my chest.

I've been on Mod the Sims forever. It's been the most helpful place I've ever been to in terms of troubleshooting issues, particularly with Create a World. Because of this, I am hugely indebted to the site and the amazing tutorials and advice that still continues to be a treasure trove to this day.

But as of 2024, I can't recommend the forums anymore. It's weird, because in the wake of EA announcing that it was closing the official forums for Sims 3, I was recommending making a jump to Mod the Sims. The reason why is that it has great regulars who are the most knowledgeable of the sims community, and the forum software is great.

However, I wound up with egg on my face. No sooner was I encouraging people to jump to the MTS forums, they became the epicenter of tons of drama because of several troublemakers creating chaos there. I won't go into too much detail about Problem Poster #1, because apparently, it's not politically correct to complain about someone who might genuinely be mentally disabled.

Problem Poster #2 was a straight up psycho, getting triggered because she got a dislike on her posts, which always happens at MTS. (Even the two popular regulars/retired mods at MTS have gotten downvotes.) She then started baiting posters by accusing anyone who disagreed with her about Sims 3 or Paralives as "working for EA/Paralives."

One thing led to another and her posts became increasingly incoherent, practically screaming with rage and throwing out paranoid accusations that people were "watching her", that the forum was full of "jealous bitches" and "whores."

No amount of reassuring her that nothing was going on could calm her down and that everyone gets dislikes. If anything, the more people talked to her, the crazier she got. Naturally, with someone making a spectacle of themselves, this brought even more dislikes (because you know how it goes when someone makes a mountain out of a molehill).

By Day Three of her irrational, crazed rampage, she was cackling about how the dwindling of dislikes was "proof" that blocking people showed that there was a group of "jealous bitches" following her, when the reality is that people had stopped wasting time with dislikes and were just reporting her to get banned. Then she started attacking me, calling me a bitch repeatedly, accusing me of "starting it" and stalking her for three days.

Instead of banning her, the admins at MTS didn't. They merely removed the posts where she went full blown Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and let her more rational posts stand to just pretend that none of this happened.

Then they allowed her to pretty much remain, with the illusion that she's a pinnacle of the community. But if you see the posts that the admins left standing to make her look rational, you can nevertheless see the signs of when she started to mentally unravel.

This is not even the first time this type of thing has happened, not just to me, but to another poster. I remember there being drama last year when a poster got a temporary suspension for supposedly being racist against Asians, when she was Asian herself.

So, that was it for me. I've been an active member of MTS since 2012, both as someone seeking advice, but also someone wanting to give back to the forum out of gratitude for all the help it had given me. I even gave a shout out to the forum in my latest world and posted links to it from my website. I don't know if the people who own and run the site have changed hands or just stopped giving a fuck in the wake of the pandemic or dwindling visitors and ad revenue, but I won't be posting at MTS anymore and I don't recommend the forums to anyone. When you allow an unhinged person to go off and then "cover their tracks," I can only imagine what other horrible, nasty things that posters have said that were also hidden from view.

as far as recommendations go...oh lord anon, I read...a lot, and watch somewhat less but have still watched a lot of things, and mostly the things I do fandom for are a smaller subset of the things I like. so I almost don't know where to start with this? I guess right off the bat I'm presently rewatching The X-Files which I'm very much enjoying, and if you haven't Kinnporsched yet you might give it a try. outside of that...I wrote a recs list a long time ago that was basically "my personal 'essential fantasy/scifi' list" and favorite books/favorite books of the decade posts. You can also check my #book recs tag or my #book starter kits tag.

if you haven't read The Silmarillion I'll throw The Silmarillion on here too even though it has next to nothing in common with the other things on the list you gave. I recently finished reading the Green Bone Saga by Jane Fonda and definitely recommend that. if you hang around this blog on a regular basis I've started doing monthly reading recaps going over everything I read in the prior month and a snapshot of my thoughts on it, so there might be some recs in there for you, too.

if you enjoyed MXTX's works I will recommend trying out some other danmei, of which there are...very many. I'm a big fan of 2HA or Husky and his White Cat Shizun, which is...being published officially, though slowly, and unfortunately never had a complete alternate (human) translation online. I'm really enjoying QJJ which is basically a historical epic of war and political intrigue in the classical style that happens to have gay main characters.

I'm reading LHJC and have been enjoying it but the translation has gone quiet for a while and is incomplete. :(

this is all fiction and also reading material...I read a lot of nonfiction as well. I do watch things once in a while but really I'm very bad at it. several things on my list that I'm sure I'll enjoy when I eventually get to them but just. haven't yet. of course right now I am forgetting everything I have ever watched in my entire life. Princess Mononoke and The Last Unicorn are foundational movies that shaped my personality. Le Chevalier d'Eon is the weirdest anime nobody else I know has ever seen. I've really enjoyed what I've seen of Kingdom and My Country: The New Age but haven't yet finished either.

How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I only ever started writing fanfiction last October, if we're talking official standalone stories from start to finish. Otherwise, I started writing on Neopets forums under 'roleplaying'. I was curious and it seemed really fun!

How many fandoms have you written in?

Again, official 'fanfiction' that I've written on my own and posted, technically it's only DC Comics and ACOTAR. If we're looking at my docs & roleplaying history, we would have to add Harry Potter, Pacific Rim, Pokemon, Attack on Titan, Marvel, Jujutsu Kaisen, Witcher, Tokyo Ghoul, Vampire Hunter D, etc.

How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

Eight months, officially. Writing overall, 20 years.

Do you read or write more fanfiction?

I write more fanfiction than I read. I struggle a lot with imposter syndrome and if I read things in my favourite fandom, I always feel like I can't possibly add to the beautiful stories that already exist. I need to be in a specific headspace to read, especially stories that are similar in content. I do love reading when I'm in a good mindset, though. Especially when I'm writing, I avoid reading so not to get influenced.

What is one way you've improved as a writer?

Write with better writers than myself, or writers who have vastly different styles. My writing partner has such a solid vocabulary and strong characterization whereas I'm more of a world-builder and lore-weaver. I've learned so much from her and she's pushed me to be better so she can have something equally as beautiful to read. I also started using beta readers, and that's been super helpful to learn more about my writing through the eyes of another.

Do you have any bad habits as a writer?

Overthinking and letting outside worries influence my writing. My best writing happens when I shut the world out, but I often overthink what my possible audience might say, or react negatively too. I'm currently blocked with several fics because I've posted them before I was done, and I'm afraid of disappointing my readers with every new update...

What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

So much medical research. My god, my characters get hurt way too much.

What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

I love it when readers highlight their favourite parts, lines or characters from my work. I really want to discuss and be excited with readers, but I'm honestly happy with any and all comments!

What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

Crackships, crackships, crackships! Also, probably way too many AUs.

What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

Action scenes for sure, as well as smut. I've wanted to write long pure smut stories, but I just can't do it! I feel like as a writer, I get so caught up in the details that I can't feel my way through the story like I usually do.

What is the easiest type?

Short pieces that focus on emotion.

Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

Right now, I have most of my work on GDocs, but I am actively writing/transitioning to @ellipsus-writes. I freaking love this platform and I can't wait to see how the features grow and evolve.

What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

More Batman stuff, for sure. I'm also currently too intimidated to finish anything right now.

What order should I watch/read trigun? Like anime first before maximum? Or does it matter or not? I really do want to get into maximum because I heard nothing but good things about it!

oh! um. Hi? I don't think i'm an expert or anything but i can do my best?

you. You probably don't wanna do what i did, which was: only just get into trigun when stampede came out, watch the first three episodes, think to yourself "damn this is cool. three episode rule really kicked in hard. this is a compliment," watch weekly until episode 6, find out hulu has the original anime dubbed and proceed to watch that in about 3 days, continue watching tristamp for another couple weeks, find the overhaul project of the manga, read a volume or two a night until you've started volume 8, at which point you read the rest of volumes 8-14 in a blur (pausing for a cry at volume 10), at which point the last two episodes of season one of tristamp have yet to come out; your roommate makes you watch badlands rumble with them the same night you watch the season finale, JUST so they can watch you watch wolfwood say the gayest sentence you've ever heard with your own two ears.

follow all of this up with the trigun book club (started by @trigunbookclub) to actually figure out what the fuck you were reading in the first place.

um.

if you want to start with one of the anime, you can either start with tristamp or trigun 98 first - tristamp season one is 12 episodes and its set up as a prequel series. trigun 98 is mostly vibes, but its really fun - in its defense, the only thing out of trigun the manga at the time was the two volumes of trigun and maybe the first volume or two of trimax? tristamp is working with the whole of trimax, and if you read trimax before watching tristamp you'll catch stuff! there's also stuff in trimax that reference the 98 anime! its a very self-referential series. (complimentary)

or you can jump right into trimax! i recommend the translation done by @trigun-manga-overhaul - they've done a really good job of translating it and keeping things consistent. dark horse has the official release, and i can't say anything for or against it atm because i am still working my way through it. i don't have all the volumes and i haven't just gotten the digital version yet. i keep forgetting

it's fairly heavy in tone though - themes such as bodily autonomy come up, assault of various kinds, body horrors, mental illnesses, just a whole host of things. Nightow does a really good job handling them, imo. plus the art is insane! in a genuinely good way! i love how nightow lets us sit with things sometimes!

Nightow also has really lovely pieces of perspective art and there are so many times while reading (and rereading) the manga I've just left the image open if I've got the overhaul translation up or sat my physical dark horse copy (the single volumes are hard to get (prohibitively expensive in the used manga market, even for someone with a 50% discount thanks to work) but dark horse is putting out a deluxe edition starting this fall (oct '23)) down and just. soaked it in. i know I've got posts in my book club tag talking about how nightow's art Works Thematically

(despite the "goofy" part in my title, there aren't a ton of goofs in trimax or tristamp, but the ones that are there genuinely make it hurt more. this is a compliment. it's a little Pratchett-esque in this way.)

(trigun is a fucked up scifi western, and it changed my brain chemistry. this is important for you to know. it will change your brain chemistry. are you prepared for the consequences?)

(i did pose this to some peeps & they suggest 98/trimax/tristamp, just because 98 prepares you for the art style in trimax where tristamp has so many references to trimax. they did concede that i while i might have had the weirdest way of getting into trigun, it might have actually been the most well rounded. jury's out getting peer-reviewed)

A little thought, since I mentioned the DeviantArt thing on my Tumblr anniversary post a couple of days back (but not the point I want to eventually make a larger post on -I'm still figuring out how to articulate that).

So, on this day in 2017 (seven years ago), I was on my first day, post-throwing my first DeviantArt account into official hiatus on the night of February 6th as a last-ditch effort to break free from a character-based roleplay friendship/partnership that became toxic, controlling, and emotionally abusive. I woke up on this day in 2017 from the weirdest, symbolic dream. It was the most vivid scene of walking around my old high school building, in which the whole thing was empty, save for a few broken fixtures left behind. Symbolic of this empty space in my life after throwing this thing out. At some point, I ran out of the building, and there was something that happened to me, which, for the sake of those who might be triggered by it, I won't describe -but it was suggestive of getting rid of something unhealthy in my life. And then, despite the disturbing images in the dream, it ended with me looking to the sky, and between the grey clouds, the sun was still shining. Despite how screwed up everything was.

There are a lot of nuances to my particular experience that left a lot of grey area, and obviously, feelings don't disappear overnight, so there were a few weeks of grieving -the worst of which hit a few days on later. I don't remember much about this day in 2017, aside from that it was a bright, sunny day that just felt so weird in my state of shock.

With this past fall, finally reaching the point of peace where I can look back on this time and not blame myself in some way for it, and not feel any regrets about it... I've realized life has come full circle in a lot of ways to what I was dealing with then. In 2017, I was in my first year of college, watching my grandfather go down with heart failure from miles away from home (he lost his battle one week after I got home from the end of Spring semester). Here in 2024, I'm finally in my first year of veterinary school, back in the same town, I've got three family members in hospice, and I don't know if my grandmother's dementia battle is going to hit its end before or after I get home from this semester. I’m watching another online community I was once a big part of slowly melt down -perhaps one I became far closer to than the one I’d been in on DeviantArt. Maybe that hasn’t been with as much nasty, divisive drama -albeit there has been some nasty gossip at school the last couple of weeks that hasn’t been the easiest to hear. Not much in life has changed at all, really, for that many year's difference. It's not easy, still, but it is easier to deal with. Not because anything has changed, as I once thought based on how some people have described. It's just easier to accept and put into perspective, and maybe not necessarily stop caring entirely, as the cynical viewpoint would say, but better knowing how to limit how much I do care when it's not worth the stress -or just something that’s out of my control.

And as I was walking outside in the waiting period between lecture and lab earlier this afternoon, I noticed it was one of those bright, clear days -just like that really odd day in 2017. And it reminded me of the one coherent thought I could tell myself back then.

“I'm still here, and the sun is still shining.”

And I still am here, and the sun is still shining, and while it seemed like the bare minimum first step at the time, I don’t think there was ever anything as beautiful as the sun in the sky today, finally reaching the other end of the journey.

My first name was my Dad's mother's first name and my middle name was my Mom's mother's middle name. I like it, and am grateful I didn't end up with the opposite combination of their names.

When is the last time you cried?

Pretty sure it was the trans godzilla stop-motion film I reblogged a week or so ago. I think I'd seen it first at a film festival but it always gets me. (I'll reblog it again right after this - it's awesome)

Nope.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

Clothes - I don't particularly follow fashion as such, but I've been obsessed with clothes and costumes and clothing history ever since I was a kid.

Scary Movies or Happy Endings?

Happy endings all the way! I'm never mad at a happy or hopeful ending. Weird and dark and gory and violent content are all things I actively seek out but I am a wimp when it comes to actually feeling scared. Horror movies are hit or miss for me, but I keep trying.

Any special talents?

I believe I can make anything. I'm not always right, but blind confidence and a willingness to try has gotten me surprisingly far!

I make movies! I do arts and crafts. I walk around outside, the deeper in the wilderness the better (but lately I've mostly just been walking around the perimeter of the office parking lot … there was a goose last week, and some ducks the week before that - I'll take whatever nature I can get)

No pets, but I do get really excited when the kangaroo paw outside my window is in bloom and the hummingbirds come to visit every day.

What Sports do you play/have you played?

I don't consider myself very sporty, but I did spend a lot of time playing team sports in school: volleyball, basketball, and track. The weirdest sport I did in school was hashing. It's a running game where one person (the hare) gets a bag of flour and a head start, and they lay a trail for the rest of the runners (the pack) to follow. It was a great way for me (a slower runner) to have a fun time running with everyone else (and a great way to go on a 5 or 10 mile run without getting bored). I started in college and kept it up for a few years afterwards (with a different group) but I eventually drifted away.

Favourite subject in school?

I enjoyed school overall but college was where the real fun was. I loved all my materials science classes - especially "science of breaking things" (not it's official name but that's what we all called it) because I got to use a microscope to look at pretty patterns in metal. Good times!

Dream Job?

One where I get to make graphs and look through microscopes a lot (making crafts and then breaking them apart is also a lot of fun). My current job is pretty good, but sometimes they make me do other things so I still have room to dream of a better workday. I am also starting to wonder if it would be really great to be retired. I can't afford that right now, but it's starting to sound really nice.

I have officially lived in El Paso for a year but if anybody asks I've only been here for a few months ok. I gotta still use that "I'm new here" excuse. But here's my thoughts on this city from an outsiders point of view looking in. This is in no way to shame any persons or cultures, it is just me pointing out differences compared to other places I've lived.

So first things first, I have lived in many places in my life and every time I move, the locals ALL say the same things "Nothing ever happens here/its boring here/theres nothing to do here/we have the worst drivers". Everybody self depreciates and never has anything nice to say about where they live.

El Paso has what I consider some major positives to me. Because it does have things to do here. Theres an outdoors community. There are hikers and there are outdoor rock climbers. I suppose somebody out there goes hunting but I don't know anything about that. I'm sure theres somewhere to go kayaking too. But we are in the desert and theres a lot of brown, so its different than outdoors on the east coast.

There is shopping. I really care about "living in suburbia" I want, what I consider, my "luxury" stores. Before I move I google the stores a town/city has because if they can afford to have certain stores then they probably have a level of comfort that I enjoy in my every day life. El Paso does have a huge, living mall. Malls are dead and dying elsewhere, you're lucky to see a bath and body works in some places. El Paso, does have one thats alive. Which is an oddity these days. It doesn't have a food court but it does have the new Abercrombie adult line and an athleta and a lululemon and your boxlunch stores. It has some cool anime and gaming stores. It has a lot of those japanese gotchupon machine things. Like its very nice. On the other side of the mall they have a kpop store. They can afford things like those sushi restaurants with the conveyor belts. They have an outdoor outlet mall with a disney store!!!! (!?!??!), a whole foods (!!!1) and ofcourse other things like top golf and one of those touristy skydiving places. The few things this city is missing is theres no IKEA, no REI, no bass pro shop. But I was honestly just happy to have a homegoods and a super target. The one walmart and super target they have down here are REALLY nice. Thats probably setting the bar low but when you're used to driving an hour+ away to get to these things, its amazing to have them.

Also, I've been a spanish student for many years now and I really wanted to obtain some form of immersion. I could literally walk to Juarez. I can look out my window and see Juarez. There is spanish here. I have learned a TON since moving here.

now some of the odd things that I've noticed: again this is not to attack anybody. Just because I'm not a fan doesn't necessarily mean anything is in the wrong, its just different and culture shock. I think this is the weirdest place I've ever lived in and we lived in Japan and Albuquerque, ok.

Again, the spanish language. Not a jab, I wanted to learn and I'm learning but it takes a special type of person to learn a new language, especially as an adult. America is so huge that in many places you are lucky to hear something other than english every blue moon. People here in El Paso have told me "you don't need spanish to live here" but they do NOT understand that the amount of spanish spoken here is so foreign that it feels like you're in a different country. The last time my brain felt this overwhelmed with another language was when we were traveling through Italy. The return plane trip back, when I heard an American accent for the first time, I literally felt like my brain melted in a sigh of relief. Thats how I feel here. You step outside and everything is in spanish. At walmart the signs are in spanish and the overhead announcements are in spanish (in english too, but in Powell Tennessee you are not going to see or hear anything in spanish) it is so blatantly in a different language. I can go an entire day at work and every single one of my patients speak spanish only. Even though I really wanted to learn and I want to say I'm conversationally fluent, it is so far outside my comfort zone, my brain wants to run back to east coast, so it can relax in english.

The other thing is, I have heard that El Pasoans are extremely friendly and they will welcome you into their houses and treat you like family and feed you food. Which is probably true and I have had coworkers feed me but the general population, outdoors, in public settings do not show friendliness the same. Again, I don't mean this negative, I don't mean that the population is a mean population, its just different.

When I first moved to Tennessee, we were looking for a house and we would get creeped out so bad by people. We would be driving through neighborhoods and everybody outside, whether they were walking their dogs or playing with their kids, they will stop to wave at you and smile like robots. If you are standing in line at the grocery store, the person behind you will start up a conversation with you about anything. They'll ask you how your day was and what you plan on doing later. Its a very overly creepy nice and it took a long time to get used to. They do similar in Georgia and Alabama. I could be an axe murderer and everybody smiles and waves at you. Its creepy.

somehow, I kinda miss it. Here in El Paso, you could be walking through a store, nobody is going to look you in the face, nobody is going to apologize for being in the way/moving out of the way/if they need to squeeze by. They wont shoulder check you, but they're not going to make room for you and they are not moving out of the way. Its the same thing when crossing the street in a parking lot. They're not going to look both ways before crossing the street. They're not going to apologize for walking out in front of a car. If I'm the pedestrian, a car is not going to stop for me. I have never heard one "I'm sorry/excuse me" since being here. Again in the southern east coast you tended to get caught in "no you first" arguments. Whether you're at a 4way stop or trying to cross the street. I could be walking my dog and I may try and wave a car on because it would be faster for the car to go first buts its a guarantee "sign language" fight of "no you go first" before I have to awkwardly sprint across the street because they insisted I go first. They don't do that in El Paso. It is very much everybody is in a personal bubble, they don't want to talk to you or acknowledge you and theres no self depreciating "Im sorry for existing, pardon me as I squeeze through here" like there is where I came from.

and the drivers too. So I would actually argue people drive vaguely slow here. I don't see many people driving faster than 65 other than the odd sports car. Everybody drives pretty slow but they are a literal almost 1million person population so there are A LOT of cars on the road in certain areas. The people here do not want ANYBODY in their lane. They do not want you to go any direction but straight. I may put my blinker on a couple exits in advance to let people behind me know I plan on getting over and that is the ONE time they will decide to speed up to prevent me doing so. I don't understand why. People will speed up to keep you from getting over and they may not even need in that lane. They'll keep you from getting over only for them to then need to keep left. Like, why? I hate driving just because of this. I got rearended twice when living in Savannah and I almost prefer their method of just speeding while playing on the cellphone more. I guess because obviously these people are paying attention while driving and their thought it obviously "OMG NO, YOU CANT GET HERE, SPEED UP" its such a jerk thing to do. I don't understand it.

which reminds me of other bizarre car behavior. It hailed here some odd weeks ago. And on the east coast, people will just leroy jenkins it and keep driving. Some people (like motorcycles) will get off the road, but if its a tornado or hurricane you just drive through it blind. For fun. Here, this is the first time I've ever seen this. Everybody squeezed their car to try and fit under the overpasses on the interstate. It was a 3 lane road and it wasn't just like a couple cars off the side of the road under the overpass, it was a good 20 cars smooshing at awkard angles to fit under this overpass and blocking all interstate traffic until the rain stopped. I kinda like zigzagged and squeezed my car through to get past the stopped cars. NEVER seen that EVER. So WEIRD.

but otherwise, the other thing El Paso has going for it is I've actually managed to find a coffee shop I like more than Starbucks. I've been to many a home-town coffee shop that just tastes like dirtwater. I feel like surpassing starbucks taste shouldn't be that hard. But I found one here. Best iced coffee and el-paso-mex cafe food.

but I'm ready to leave here for sure. Do not want to be here for another 6 months.

This was an absolutely fascinating question that I unfortunately did not have the time to dig into during the event, so I posed the question to our resident nurse and fellow Sally-Simp @thegracelessfaceless! Here's what she had to say about L.S.S. and her own Sals blood labs:

"...It would make sense to me for him to of course be anemic like mine, those boys stay so cold except in summer. But also we have to factor in the electrocution. In people who have been electrocuted it's important to check their complete blood count, which is a little low in my Sal, serum electrolyte levels (fine now but right after the chair they were super high), liver function tests (low due to capillaries being fried) and BUN (blood urea nitrogen) which would be super low since the electrolytes were super high....

The levels have probably evened out by now, but they're are small abnormalities in those tests that will follow him for the rest of his life. Now Larry? His blood tests are the weirdest thing I've ever seen"

So yes, Danu, I'd say there is a strong possibility of some weird results in L.S.S.! It's very interesting that there's some evidence of electrocution in Gracies Sals blood, even after hopping realities...

While we're talking about Mitch(5) and her interesting taste in décor, I wanted to point out an easter egg readers might not have noticed:

In her intro selfie, you can see a portion of her plushie collection in the background, including a strawberry and a rabbit. When Sal moves in the death day selfie...

... it's revealed that there's a wolf that admittedly looks like a cat but i was in a time crunch sshhh about to nom on the rabbits arm (mmm, foreshadowing~) 🍴

Yes, all the time! He's a huge stickler for safety and following protocol, and wouldn't hesitate to say something if someone is endangering themselves or others. Half the reason he's called 'Mitch the Bitch' is because he's always bitching and nagging about this and that, but it's always for a good reason! He just can't stand the thought of someone getting hurt because of a careless mistake (especially if he could have done something to prevent it.... or god forbid, he caused it)... 😰

While we're on the topic, I think it could be argued that all of L.S.S.s relationships he'd had with the Mitchs hes encountered are irresponsible on Sals part (the most excusable being Coworker!Mitch). Ultimately, they're all sidequests that have been a major disruption to his real mission: Find the 'original' Larry, do everything he can to stop the D.O.G. wherever he encounters them, and generally fight for the greater good however he can (a cause far more important that his own personal fulfilment or happiness). Consider:

>There was no 'Mitch' in his original timeline, so they shouldn't really be considered a priority on his main quest (no matter how important they've become to him over time).

>Mitch(1) got waaaay more than she bargained for by getting involved with Sally. She expected him to be executed, not show up at her window in the middle of the night to take her on the run! He could have easily cut off the relationship for her sake at any time, knowing it could never realistically work out, but he chose to pursue it in favor of the lofty short-term reward. This decision ultimately resulted in both of their deaths (hers being completely unnecessary), and further contributed to the cycle of guilt that he was already trapped in in (only this time, the angst had a sexy, romantic edge! Juicyyy~)

>The versions of Mitch that Sal found later on had absolutely nothing to do with what happened between him and Mitch(1), so there was no real reason to get them involved in his guilt trip/ attempt at redemption.

>I mean, sure, they all provided a temporary, comforting distraction from the torture of immortality, but in the end, those relationships did nothing to help his ultimate cause or ease his guilt. All they did was leave Sal a little more twisted than he was before....

The Actual answer: He'd go and have fun for an hour or two, then either get kicked out for inappropriate behavior/ not having money, or he'd get cranky because he's overstimulated, get mad about something small, and retreat to the safety of his trailer in a huff.

Side note: Something I didn't really get to cover as much as I'd like to during The Staycation is Dealer!Mitchs sensory issues. It's one of the reasons he numbs himself with substances, loves living in the middle of the woods (very little noise and light pollution), and prefers to go into town at night (less crowded). He's just absolutely riddled with ADHD and chooses bad ways to cope with it 🤷‍♂️

Gotta admit, I was flip-flopping on the details for his death the entire time (and didn't have enough time to write it out, anyway) so I ended up leaving it pretty vague on purpose 🤡

The rough idea was that:

>Larry came to Mitch(4)s trailer to check up on Sal because he hadn't heard from him for a while and got worried.

>Larry barged in and found Sal dead [either pretty fresh, so Mitch(3) is still crying hysterically while trying (poorly) to resuscitate him, or like a couple days post-mortem, so Mitch(3) is in a drunken stupor and the smell is starting to seep under the closed bedroom door... couldn't decide which would be more gross/scary/pathetic and fun to write tbh🤔].

>Larry didn't want anybody to know that Sal died that way. He believed it would be better if they thought he'd just gone missing, like so many others in Nockfell had.

>Larry and Mitch(3) cut up Sals body in the bathtub and kept the pieces in Mitch(3)s fridge to be disposed of in sections (the whole body would be hard to transport and look super sus), probably by Larry putting them down the '''trash chute''' in Mrs. Packertons apartment. [or something?? I just know that Mitch(3) would be too freaked out/intoxicated to come up with a plan besides 'ignore it', and Larry makes grand schemes without thinking the details through, so it seems like something he'd suggest.] That way, Sals body would never be found and his reputation would remain intact.

>Larry bailed half-way through disposal because he couldn't stomach it, leaving Mitch(3) with a fridge full of rotting man meat and nobody to turn to because he's an asshole who pushed everyone who cares about him away.

>Ultimately, I had two main options for Mitch(3)s death, but couldn't quite decide:

Him being him, his solution is to avoid the problem until it goes away and take whatever substance is necessary to achieve that, so he does that until he ODs and dies in his trailer ['rots in a box' with Sal].

Because Mitch(3) he hadn't been pushing any 'Addison Special' lately, members of the cult come to check on him. They find him mid-suicidal binge, he asks them for help with getting rid of Sals body, keeps saying hes sorry and didn't mean to hurt anyone, he wants to get out of the game, yada yada... the cult decides hes no longer useful to them. They either... >go through the song and dance of charging him with murder and throwing him in jail for the rest of his life [again, he 'rots in a box,' but is all alone] >or, they just kill him, and his body either ends up in the same pile of remains as (half of) Sals did [in the temple, right under the apartments, which is where Sal would later find Mitch(4) in the lost-and-found box] OR they would just kill him and leave him to rot with the rest of Sals body in his trailer and kind of forget about it bc the D.O.G. runs the government and they can do that 🤷‍♂️

Whatever route tickles your fancy, Mitch(3) died alone, miserable, and completely out of control because of his own actions. (No wonder the next Mitch in line was so needy, attention hungry, and desperate to be told what to do... 🥺)

okay!! so i've only watched s1 of derry girls so far, so kira isn't super fleshed out. but basically, kira was raised in thailand by a single mother. her mom tended to date around and was constantly bringing guys home, who weren't always the nicest to either of them. kira started to act out when she entered middle school and hates that her mom never really stood up for her. when she turned thirteen, her mom met an irish business man, alby blanchfield, and fell madly in love with him. within a few months, she moved herself and kira to derry to live with her new fiance and kira was not happy.

when season one starts, kira is freshly fifteen and attends Our Lady Immaculate College with the other girls. they know vaguely of each other, but don't tend to run in the same social circles. michelle looks up as to kira, as kira tends to be rebellious and is constantly making a scene. she's not subtle about the fact that she hates ireland and misses thailand, which has made her pretty unpopular. she's forever getting in trouble for graffiti around town, but that doesn't stop her.

kira first starts getting incorporated into the group when she hears that, not only is that not only is there now a boy at their school, he pissed in a trash can during detention, which is officially the coolest and weirdest thing she's ever heard. so she seeks james out, and upon meeting him, is surprised to learn that james is certainly not a badass and is pretty much the opposite of what she expected. but she finds his awkwardness endearing and decides to adopt him only to discover he's already been adopted by the gang. but she doesn't mind and just starts joining them against everyone's will until they realize that even though she's a handful she's pretty cool. she and michelle get along really well, which kind of scares james, but overall, she makes a fun addition to the group and definitely gets them into trouble more than once.

Markus had a long week.

He received a 67% on his latest Computer Science essay (which was harsh, in his humble opinion) and spent the last 3 nights losing sleep over submitting his upcoming art portfolio.

Frankly, he didn't want to be in his campus' mini-market – he had a Netflix marathon to return to. But his dorm's freezer was empty, and if Markus wanted to wallow in his sorrows, he thought he deserved something sweet. At the very least.

So yeah, Markus was tired and had little patience.

Maybe that's why he didn't notice the other guy's arm reaching towards the last carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Markus' hand jerked back in shock when he felt something brush against it and he whipped his head sideways, coming face-to-face with someone he's never seen before. And Jesus, this guy looked just as exhausted and stressed as he did. Unkempt curly hair and bloodshot eyes with heavy bags underneath, eyes which were glaring back into Markus' own.

Did this dude not understand personal space?

Nevertheless, Markus took a small step back and muttered, "Sorry man, didn't see you there. Must have been lost in thought. If you'll excuse me…" and he went back to grabbing his ice cream when the dude started shaking his head.

"Oh no, don't tell me you're grabbing the last carton of mint chocolate chip. I left my room specifically to buy some." Markus could only stare back at him in disbelief. This was the last thing he needed, he didn't even know this guy's name and he was adding onto Markus' already horrible week.

"Yeah, I was actually." Markus started, furrowing his eyebrows when the dude balled one of his hands into fists. "Listen, I got here first and there are dozens of other flavors, I'm sure you like more than just one."

This was officially the weirdest interaction Markus has ever had on campus. And to think, the dude was fairly attractive… would probably be even more so if he didn't look like he wanted to fight Markus in the middle of his college's convienence store.

The dude scoffed, "Yes, exactly! You can clearly see there are tons of other flavors! Take your own advice and pick a different one!" Markus felt like a bucket of ice water was thrown over him, the whiplash from such a conversation throwing him for a loop. He was going to respond in kind (besides, who starts a fight over fucking ice cream?) when he noticed the guy shakily wipe his eyes.

Well, he wasn't jokingly called a peacemaker by his friends for nothing.

"Are… you okay?" Markus asked, cautiously watching to see if the other was either going to burst into tears or throw him against the freezer for trying to take the last carton of (both of their?) favorite ice cream.

He stared at Markus as if he grew a second head. "Oh yeah, I'm awesome! Are we doing introductions now? I'm Connor, what's your name? By the way, I didn't just have the worst week of my undergraduate career and now, someone I've never met has the gall to deprive me of the one thing that might cheer me up! But no, I'm clearly having a great time!"

Was Markus dreaming? This dude, Connor apparently, sounds like he had an equally horrible week but man, was he sassier than Markus ever dreamed he could be. He wondered if he shared a class with North. He would have to ask her once he returned to his room.

Markus chokes out a small laugh when he realizes the insanity of this situation. "You know what, man. Connor right? You can have it." He takes another step back to show he means it, watching as Connor shifts his attention between him and the freezer door. "If me taking the last carton of ice cream is gonna be your breaking point, I really don't wanna contribute to that. I'll endure after my own awful week by getting something else."

He starts to walk away, musing at the thought that the universe must certainly have it out for him. Markus is about to step into another aisle when he hears a quiet curse and shuffling behind him.

"You never answered my question." He turns around and faces Connor again, who's looking at him with uncertainty as he holds the carton of ice cream that got them into this mess. "What question?"

"Your name." Connor deadpans. And Markus thinks, what the hell, he's met people under weirder circumstances (he hasn't but this stranger didn't need to know that).

He shrugs and looks to the side, picking up a bag of chocolate-covered pretzels. "Markus."

Connor nods and twiddles with the string on his hoodie, "Well, if this ever happens again, I promise you can have the last carton of ice cream. We can trade off." He still looks like he might collapse from stress and exhaustion, but Markus can understand an olive branch when it's presented to him.

He nods, "Sure, I'll hold you to that. Start thinking of other snacks to get instead." and Markus rattles the bag of pretzels for good measure, gleaming a bit on the inside when it manages to get Connor to stifle a laugh. Huh. First impressions at college are wild.
