He almost felt like saying that was disappointing to hear, but he also didn't wish to make all her work seem for nothing. He was actually rather surprised by how skilled she seemed to be with wrapping up wounds like this, and at least she wasn't asking too many questions about what had happened either. Those men would be back, and it'd be safer for her if there was a wide distance between them before then. "...really, not many people would take their time to look after a stranger like this...", least that was his experience, and she certainly didn't look like the type that was after something in return, "...how can I say thanks?"

Being a Batkid doesn’t mean pushing through pain just for the ego or superiority win. It means pushing through pain long enough to make it somewhere safe to get help. It means not giving anyone, even an ally, a chance to parse weakness.

Dick finishes a rough mission with the Titans where he got thrown hard into a wall, smiles and jokes with everyone, and then zetas back to the Cave where he promptly throws up and collapses because almost every bone in his left arm is broken and not a single person noticed.

The bullet wound feels like it’s festering and there’s sticky warm blood soaking the shirt he’s wearing. His left arm feels numb and on fire at the same time and it feels like someone’s shoved a pitchfork through his chest and spun his lungs around like spaghetti. His hair’s disheveled and a mess, his tie is loose from his incessant yanking on it for air and his cheeks are bright red from either the cold or just being breathless- he hates the feeling of not being able to breathe but none of it matters. 

All that matters is he’s not willing to just let things linger in passing glances and subtle gestures anymore. He doesn’t want this to be one of those… those things where they both knew there was something there but never said anything, never tried and just ended up fading from each other’s lives.

Other nights I'm bargaining with God, asking him what I have to do or give up for him to bring you back…” Jamie looks up at Lucifer with a grimace, suddenly feeling much smaller than he’s ever felt. “I burned so long— so quiet you must have wondered if I loved you back. I'm so cynical about that two-headed calf.

it's 2 weeks old and still can't stand. yesterday's update was "here is a video of her holding her head up", with a claim that it is growing in strength - but in the video, it very much looks like the heads are being propped up by a bag of woodchips.

calves should be standing within 2 hours of birth. by the third day, they should be mobile enough that they're hard to catch. by adulthood, they weigh over a thousand pounds.

there's also a religious angle to this. many of the farm's posts have been intensely christian, the farm has described the calf as 'a miracle from God', and nearly all the comments are people offering prayers. meaning.....they might not be making the most objective decisions regarding this animal's welfare.

I'm in a livestock Facebook group and two-headed calves aren't as rare as you'd think. mostly, they're born dead, or die shortly after birth. this isn't a deformity that is compatible with life, and I just can't see any outcome where this calf starts thriving.

And then THAT transformed into "Conkeldurr is a tough as nails gentle giant that has a tiny sad Zorua daughter that he loves very much and he carries her around on his back and he loves his tiny daughter and if you so much as look at his sweet tiny daughter he will actually punch you into last week also did I mention that this Zorua is his tiny special daughter that he loves very much-"

Notes from a concerned medical professional who reads too much hurt/comfort:

(These are all things I've seen in Hazbin/Helluva fanfics)

(Tw: for injury, illness, gore, drug use, overdose, a lot of other things)

You cannot drug someone to sleep by overdosing them on melatonin. It will not work

Don't submerge an open wound or stitches in a bathtub/pool/etc it will introduce bacteria to the wound (taking a shower is usually fine, just skip the romantic bath)

On that note, stitches do not immediately stop a wound from bleeding and should not be used to solve every problem (never give yourself stitches unless you have absolutely no other choice they can trap infection inside the body when done incorrectly)

And, if the wound is extremely deep, a person may need several layers of stitches to piece together the skin, muscle, and viscera

You absolutely cannot get high on tylenol or ibuprofen even if you mix it with alcohol.

If you do mix tylenol or ibuprofen with alcohol it can cause internal bleeding/kidney damage/liver failure, so please don't do that

If someone is shivering from a high fever, don't cover them in blankets it will raise their body temperature even more (please try correctly dosed tylenol or ibuprofen for this)

Don't submerge someone with a high fever in ice water, they might go into shock (they also might panic and hurt themselves) in a pinch lukewarm water will do

Don't put ice on burns, run them under lukewarm or cool water instead

If someone overdoses on an opoid (heroin, morphine, various pain medications), there is a medicine called nalaxone (Narcan) that can reverse the effects of opioids (edit: thank you to @queerlybehooved)

If someone is bleeding profusely, don't just hold their head and whisper sweet nothings, put pressure on the wound!!!

If a bullet remains in a person’s body after being shot it most likely should not be dug out unless it's blocking something vital, the bullet is not the problem the damage it made in it's path is

This isn't a criticism of authors who have written things like this. A lot of it isn't common knowledge, and DIY healthcare is absolutely steeped in myth and misinformation. I just worry about disinformation being perpetuated (and I really enjoy accurate hurt/comfort)

It actually makes a lot of sense that Bruce was one of the few people left standing in the crowd at Haly’s Circus when Dick’s parents died.

Watching two innocent people plummet to their deaths is gruesome. It’s shocking. It can be horribly traumatic, depending on the blunt force trauma of hitting the ground. They might not have died right away. They might have bled and made awful noises that were heard even above the sounds of the crowd.

But Bruce is Batman. Bruce saw his parents get murdered right in front of him. And he knows the sounds and sights of someone dying. He’s hardened himself to stay calm in a situation like that, both through trauma and practice.

I think the image of a young Dick Grayson making eye contact with the one unshaken person in the crowd is chilling. A man standing resolute when everyone else is screaming, sadness etched across his face. But not panic. Not confusion. Resignation, maybe.
