Effective Trading Strategies Using the Ehler Fisher Transform
Understanding the Ehler Fisher Transform (EFT) The Ehler Fisher Transform (EFT) is a technical indicator developed by John Ehlers, designed to transform price data into a Gaussian normal distribution. The goal is to make market data more analyzable by amplifying price fluctuations into clearer buy or sell signals. The EFT oscillates between fixed levels (usually -1 and 1), making it highly…

The Sage of Truth's heart is driven by the beat of curiosity, so he is used to questions and mysteries catching his fancy with all the ease of a match to a forest. They light a passion that burn him through investigation and calculation straight down to the slow embers of an answer or lack thereof, and even then the warmth of his newfound knowledge sparks a need to share what he has discovered with as many Cookies as possible. The affect that this zest for knowledge has on him is, in itself, an unshakeable Truth.
Despite all this, the Sage can still readily admit that nothing, no question or riddle or impossible formula, has ever captivated him as much as the Truthless Recluse.
The Truthless Recluse has always been a minor fascination of his, from the moment he had first heard of him, but that hadn't bloomed into anything signficant until he had the pleasure of meeting him at the square. The Recluse was both a delightfully complex and undeniably simple Cookie, easy for him to understand yet layered in contradictions.
The Truthless Recluse, whose life purpose is dedicated to his own Truth of protecting Cookies from the cruelty of Truth. A living, breathing riddle.
The Sage had intially nurtured a newborn hope that they would cross paths again in the square, and he had fallen into the habit of searching the crowds that flocked to his lectures for a glimpse of those dark robes, that gloomy aura, but alas! Of course, the Recluse would not grant him that honour more than once.
Eventually, the Sage accepted that if he hoped for another meeting, he would have to approach the Recluse himself. The thought did little to dissuade him, as he was rather experienced in chasing after his own flights of philosophical fancy.
So here he is, making the trek up to the Peak of Truth with only the pale moon to accompany him.
The Sage is confident in his path, and finds the journey itself pleasant overall. It may have been quite a while since he was last here, but he did once hail from this peak himself, long before the Recluse slunk and settled in. As such, he remembers the best routes to take, and has little difficult navigating in the encroaching dark.
He is just past halfway up when a silhouette emerges from the shadows, solemn and blurring together with the rest of their dim surroundings. The Sage's heart, driven by curiosity, doubles its beat, pounding excitedly in his chest.
"Who dares to–" The Recluse asks, voice low and gravelly in an attempt to intimidate, but he stops abruptly, narrowing his eyes at the Sage. "You."
"Yes, yes, it's just me." The Sage smiles, undeterred by the less than warm welcome, doing a little flourished bow before hopping back up into an upright position. "I know it is awfully late for a visit, my friend, but you see–"
"Don't call me that." The Recluse interrupts, somewhat rudely, but the Sage's interest in him allows him to let it go with little fuss. "We are not friends."
"Whyever not?" The Sage asks easily, tilting his head. "Are we not both Cookies, living in accordance to our own personal Truths, just like every other? You know, even a Cookie who does nothing but lie and cheat still has the Truth of their affinity for deception as a central pillar in their life."
"You said something similar already, at the square." The Recluse mutters, his gaze cold and heavy. The Sage welcomes it without a shiver. "About me living by a personal Truth."
"And am I wrong?" The Sage questions back, raising an eyebrow. He is genuinely interested to see if the Recluse can make any sort of substanial refutation.
But the Recluse simply presses his lips together in frustration and glances away. The Sage feels both a curl of satisfaction at his silently begrudging acceptance of his point and a chill of disappointment at the lack of an attempted counter.
His disappointment does not have to last long, as the Recluse returns his piercing gaze to him to make a point of his own. "If every Cookie's life relies on a personal Truth, then Life is just as cruel as Truth." The many eyes on the Recluse's mutated staff blink sluggishly, accusingly, their irises catching the thin moonlight in muddy ripples. "That does not show me any proof that we are friends. Which we are not."
"I only meant that there is nothing to stop us from being friends." The Sage clarifies, though he feels like he was quite clear the first time. "And I have never denied the complexities and, indeed, cruelties of Truth and Life alike. As I have told you before, Truth is imperfect, and I embrace that. You, however, seem to be unable to see past these complexities to accept the positives that Truth brings to the world too."
The Recluse seems unhappy with that, his hand tightening its grip around his staff and his frown deepening. "Did you come here only to give me a lecture?" He snaps, voice soft and brittle. "If I wanted to hear this, I would go to the square you insist on occupying."
"Did you not try to do the same to me, on your single visit to the square?" The Sage asks playfully with a growing grin, paying close attention to the way the Recluse stiffens. He laughs lightly. "Ah, don't think of this as a lecture, please. It's only meant to be a conversation. To be frank, I quite enjoyed our brief exchange back at the square, so I was hoping to get a chance to talk to you again. You seem like you would make a particularly interesting debate partner."
The Recluse huffs, shaking his head. "I have no interest in talking to you any further. This much was already bad enough."
With that, he turns away and tries to slink back into the shadows.
"Surely you aren't completely opposed?" The Sage argues, summoning a brilliant ball of light in his palm and rushing over to the Recluse's side, refusing to let him leave now. "If you were, you wouldn't have been willing to initiate our acquaintanceship first. You were the one responsible for that, when you visited the square."
The Recluse stops walking as the conjured light falls on his shoulders, reeling away and twisting around to glare at the Sage. The reflected light makes his dull eyes seem brighter, almost beautifully so. "I did that solely to stop you from sending dozens to their inevitable ruin by exposing them to the path of Truth." He hisses stubbornly. "If I had known it would be useless, and if I had known you would come chasing after me, I would have stayed far away."
"It is very easy to say that in retrospect, but you can't prove that to be true." The Sage points out with a shrug. "Unfortunately, my heart is rather set on this possible friendship of ours, so I'm afraid the matter is out of your hands now. You're stuck with me!"
The Recluse's expression closes in on itself, returning to a blank slate as he abruptly turns and begins to march off again. The Sage realises immediately that the Recluse hopes to discourage him by ignoring him and carrying on, but the Sage eagerly rises to the challenge.
He falls into step beside him, and the two of them walk together in silence, the Sage's light spilling like a pool of honey around them. The Sage watches the Recluse out of the corner of his eye, as the Recluse resolutely faces forward, acting as if he doesn't exist.
Eventually, the Sage's persistence pays off.
As they are approaching the summit, the Recluse comes to another stop, so sudden that the Sage almost walks into him. The Recluse does not turn back to look at him as he says quietly into the air, "Friendship is ultimately meaningless."
His voice is bitter, heavy with a sense of mourning. The Sage hums in consideration, rounding the Recluse to meet his face, raising his summoned light to envelope the surrounding area in a glow.
"What an intruigingly nihilistic statement!" He declares brightly, clapping his hands together. "It would make a riveting debate topic, if you'd entertain me for just an hour or two. Unless, of course, you worry your Truth will not be able to withstand mine?" The Sage rocks forwards on the balls of his feet, his smile a polite taunt. "After all, not all Truths are made equal. Some are stronger than others."
The Recluse glares at him again, though this time, it is weakened slightly by the growing resignation beginning to creep across his features. "You won't give this up, will you?"
"Of course not!" The Sage grins, hopeful that he seems to be slowly getting through to him. "Giving up is never the best option, you know."
The Recluse scoffs, raising his staff as dark wisps begin to swirl menacingly around it. "Not even if I decide to make you leave me alone by force?"
"Not even then!" The Sage chuckles, folding his arms behind his back as he squints his eyes at the Recluse. "Haven't you heard of me before? I can find an answer to anything and you," he takes a modest step closer, his eyes glittering with delight, "are my latest enigma."
The Recluse stares at him for a moment, his expression unreadable, which only makes the Sage wish to study it further. Finally, the Recluse sighs heavily, the dark energy accumulating around his staff dissipating in an instant.
"Fine." He murmurs, barely a whisper as he continues walking. The Sage lights up, his summoned light flaring along with him, and, taking it as an invitation, he follows after the Recluse to the rhythm of his achingly curious heart.

This is just an /opinion/ and I'm just tryna find ppl that agree with me.
I do not think having kids could quote on quote "fix" Shen Jiu, biological or otherwise. 1) A kid should not bear the responsibility to be that emotionally invested in the shit mental health of their caregiver. Don't make any child go through that. And 2) Nothing about any child could make Shen Jiu be a decent caregiver out of his own volition (sure, he was nice to NYY and probably did care for her, but that's about how far it went ejrrjf tho I'll gladly eat up AUs where he does treat her like a daughter when he knows how to care for a kid properly).
Good luck trying to make Shen Jiu get his shit together unless you're actually changing things about his past. The easiest "fix" imo is to give Shen Jiu an ADULT, heavy emphasis on this, an ADULT that could invest in his mental/emotional wellbeing when Shen Jiu is still a kid or a teen. How else do you expect Shen Jiu to be a responsible adult around kids when he's never had a responsible adult to care for him at all?
There's not a single authority figure in Shen Jiu's life that's ever done him good, not QJL, not WY, and SJ's own shizun, the prev. QJPL is up for debate but I have reasons to believe why they ain't shit too. And like hear me out, YQY doesn't count either coz SJ *thinks* YQY is another caregiver that gave up on him and didn't take responsibility for him. And obviously that's not true, but that's just how it is from his perspective sadly.
I still really like Shen Jiu's dark backstory, coz there's no Shen Jiu without it, buuuuuuuut if you really want a version of him that doesn't take that bullshit out on his disciples, do give him an ADULT, coz never a kid, give him and adult first, before you give him any kids, so he can LEARN HOW TO BE AN ADULT.

Pure Vanilla and his fated 'other half'
So I'm currently drafting a huge master post of my analysis/comparison of the entire Beast-Yeast Campaign thus far but I could not let this idea go so here's my thoughts.
Throughout Beast-Yeast it's pretty clear that patterns can be seen. Every Beast has a 'lackey' of some sort- and ever Ancient has a 'right hand' so to speak.
And as it happens, these tropes actually help guide the story along.
In the end (imo) in Apathy vs Resilience it was Dark Cacao's love for his kingdom, and his right hand- Caramel Arrow Cookie (and Crunchy Chip) that help him overcome the things that Mystic Flour torments him with. That was what motivated him to ascend and 'beat' his beast.
Similarly, Golden Cheese sets out with a specific other cookie (Burnt Cheese Cookie) and it was the greed and love for her kingdom that helped overcome her beast.
Now with Holly berry's story out I can FINALLY address Eternal Sugar's whole deal with her (holy shit there's so much to unpack lmfao) but something intriguing I noticed is that she ALSO has a right hand (Wild berry Cookie and Raspberry Cookie) that clearly serve as a catalyst and her main support system throughout the story.
As of writing this I haven't finished Eternal Sugar and Hollyberry's campaign, so I'm not sure how her love of her kingdom will help Hollyberry actually ascend but from what I've PLAYED- Eternal Sugar literally involved HOLLYBERRY'S ENTIRE KINGDOM.
So far every Ancient's kingdom had been involved as collateral damage in somehow someway.
--
So what about Pure Vanilla Cookie?
Well he's a weirdo. Pure Vanilla's right hand is White Lily Cookie. His best friend- the one that literally half of his entire kingdom is DEDICATED to. It's clear throughout even the first two episodes that White Lily is SUPPOSED to Pure Vanilla's right hand and main comforter when he is being tormented by Shadow Milk.
She was supposed to be there for him. But we all know that White Lily is a little bit quirky and whenever she's 'supposed' to do anything sheeeee goes 'off script' a little. Which in this case actually worked in Shadow Milk's favor but still lol.
Point is that as soon as gang arrives at the Spire of Shadows White Lily splits up with them- Pure Vanilla just LOST his main support. I can't remember if it's canon whether or not Shadow Milk actually addresses this but it's quite intriguing because we've already broken the pattern set up so far:
Pure Vanilla has no right hand. He is alone in a spire to face his beast with a band of three crack kids on cocaine /j
And the effects of this is immediate in the way where he hallucinates the trio becoming incredibly angry and bitter at PV for misguiding them to the spire. Normally; the supporting role would help the main character. But that doesn't happen at all does it?
Might I add as well that Shadow Milk also breaks the monotony for once by having not one but two well trusted henchmen. And not any more.
Shadow Milk and PV's entire arc revolves around them being incredibly isolated and not being able to rely on anyone around them. Literally JUST to emphasize this I made a diagram of how Shadow Milk harasses everyone in Crispia.
If you were lonley... you'd go out of way to harass ANYONE. Everyone. Just for attention. If you already had your playthings exactly where you wanted them why would you try to manipulate anything more?
Mystic Flour and Burning Spice only target things related with their ancients because their goal is the soul jam. Eternal Sugar only targets the Hollyberrian Kingdom because her goal is Hollyberry. Annddd what does Shadow Milk do?
He reaches his grubby little hands out into Crispia and targets EVERYTHING BUT THE VANILLA KINGDOM.??
Sorry but I still haven't processed that right.
The only time we get a glimpse into who Shadow Milk torments with his lies is specifically those shown on the map- GRANTED it's supposed to be implied that Shadow Milk's power and deceit stretched across the entirety of Crispia. That doesn't disprove my POINT though- Shadow Milk's lonely ahh bitch decided that if he's truly 'lonely' he's going to straight up harass the entire COUNTRY.
Right so how does this relate to PV?
Well the other ancients surley ascended because of their love of their kingdom (because it's being tormented) and their right hand right-?
Lets go through our list here....
Right hand? No where to be seen White Lily is GONE and PV has only three friends who he CLEARLY does not want to burden with his issues.
Kingdom in peril right-... oh. Well erm this is kind of awkward... Who's going to tell Truthless Recluse that he should be CARING about the Vanilla Kingdom (that he renounced king-dom-ship over...)
My live reaction /lh
So yeah as FAR as the story is concerned PV ascends because of the love of his friends- as in Gingerbrave, Strawberry, and Wizard right.
Okay so maybe he didn't have the love of his kingdom (on my MAMA he never mentions his kingdom one god damn time despite LITERALLY BEING A KING IN THE PAST </3) - but that leaves us with one... final... issue...
PV's ascended now, we all find out that Truthless Recluse was a trick he did to better understand Shadow Milk but where the HELL is this man's one person???
Where is the person that at the end of the beast arc he comes to reconcile and say 'Oh wow I'm so glad THATS all over'...
...
Case in point, White Lily was supposed to be Pure Vanilla's support system... she was supposed to be there for him. Instead, PV not only figured it out by himself b u t.
Yknow he wasn't exactly wrong.
The entire time their arc consisted of conquring lonlieness. Was Shadow Milk the villian really? Or was it the fact that he lashed out- not knowing how to deal with the truth. Pure Vanilla was not the only one that was missing his 'person' so to speak (take this romantically or platonically).
While both Shadow Milk and PV had their friends there with them (ie; Black Saph, Candy apple | The trio) they were missing their main pillar of support.
So in the end what better way to end their arc then having PV extend his hand towards Shadow Milk and ask him if he wants to be his friend? The reason why PV's proposal is the final chapter in their story instead of an ascension and an 'epic battle' because the main antagonist of their story was merely a facade. And all they needed was each other to conqure it.
SPOLIERS FOR THE MOST RECENT ETERNAL SUGAR AND HOLLYBERRY ARC THIS IS UR ONLY WARNING CHAT ALR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad Shadow Milk ran away though right guys /lhj

i think quite a few people saying that exu divergence is a bad look after c3 are missing the point a little bit.
first of all: if c3 just wasn’t the type of story you like, that is so fine! it was very high stakes for my tastes, even if i did enjoy it! you can not like something without it being bad! that is how media works. the rest of this goes under the cut for those avoiding discourse
second: yes, c3 was messy, but that was the point! there’s no good answer to “an evil wizard wants to unleash a godeater, and now that he’s opened that door there is no closing it, and if he dies, eventually, now or in a hundred years, someone will replace him, so how are you going to fix it?”
the gang found an answer to the problem that maybe wasn’t the best, definitely wasn’t “””right””” because this isn’t black and white, but that got rid of the predathos problem, took the evil wizard’s control of the situation away, and let the people of faith keep their gods instead of removing them from the world entirely, which is a very cool answer to the issue! maybe its not what everyone wanted to happen, but it is a very creative solution, which is fun and which dnd games lend themselves to.
the point of c3, as i see it, is examining the consequences of a world that the gods have left. it’s been a THOUSAND years since divergence at this point. the gods, while they do act through their people and talk to people, are largely inaccessible to the common folk. and that’s what c3 is all about. the consequences of the gods being gone, shown through a largely non-religious party.
divergence is all about the consequences of the gods being right there, too present and too big and causing trouble and enacting miracles.
of COURSE we see the moonweaver be soft and sisterly and loving in such an overt way in divergence. she’s spent the last couple decades being loved as a mortal sister, loved just for living and loving in return.
and of course in c3 we see them vaguely disconnected and unawares of some suffering on exandria and people committing horrors in their names, primes and betrayers alike. if you got ripped away from your children for a thousand years and could only watch through a looking glass and occasionally talk to a few of them in dreams and visions and cryptic messages? you’d have to stop caring a little too, just to keep going!
the gods were so withdrawn for so long, that has to have consequences. it did. that was all of c3.
bells hells DID speak for the people. people who hadn’t had gods around for a millennia, who get overlooked as collateral in a war about gods, again. they’re not heroes. they’re a bunch of idiots all desperate for a family, who mostly cared if they could save each other, in the end, but who wanted to save others on the way if they could. they’re the people that the divergence gang would grow to be, with power and a smidge of a voice, just minus the real attachment to any gods.
there are so many parallels i could draw between garen and chetney, between the roaches and ashton, nia and fcg. divergence isn’t highlighting a failure on c3’s part. it’s showing the opposite end of the spectrum. distant gods vs overly present gods.
#critical role discourse#discourse#bells hells#cr3#critical role#exu divergence#listen im just putting on my media analysis hat#i get if the story of c3 just isn’t your speed but it WAS NOT INHERENTLY BAD CAUSE YOU DONT LIKE IT#cr

Heya Anon!
Tbh I don't really know, Akane is a character who has been dealing with a thousand death flags leading to nothing since his most serious appareance in the manga. And this new timeline is not an exception.
Especially since we know that Kako and Mirai gave him 'You have to try to stay alive' rule as one of his duties
Implying that it is dangerous to altern the past and be the Clock Keeper of the Present, that they have to stay alive to make sure everything goes according to plan.
It also ties to my theory that Akane is the first human clock keeper of the present; Because after all if Kako and Mirai have been asleep since they changed the past in this new timeline, they couldn't have chosen anyone during 1968 and the current events in the manga (2015).
Akane is the only person who is directly coming from a different timeline even compared to Nene and Teru who just remember the stuff from the previous one, being on a time limit before their memories are erased. Akane brought along with him the fact that he is a clock keepers and mystery n°1, something he couldn't be in this new timeline in the first place since both of them don't exist.
But I digress.
Akane has been a little bit different since they came back from the boundary closest to the far shore. It's not that surprising with how much the previous arc must have taken a toll on him. Understanding that Aoi wanted to die, losing her, being impaled, having Teru confirming that he will lose years of his lifespan by turning back human too soon, being beaten up twice by number 6, etc...
Akane is like Kou and Nene on this point, a character who wants to do a lot, but is always a step behind when it comes to supernaturals. And like the other two, it is starting to show in his attitude.
Akane has been shown more unsure of his choices and of his opinions when it's something that never posed him a problem before. He is more scared of Teru (when he knows the exorcist by now) and of being hurt in general,. Something he hasn't showed as much before, liking and enjoying life of course, but never being afraid to be in the first line even if it meant being hurt; Now he acts like he is truly scared of dying.
And he lets things involving Aoi not being his first priority. Refusing to listen to Natsuhiko plan to even try to heal her. Akane has always been showed to be really proactive anyways, that's one of his main character trait. So seeing that he is putting something for a later date and it involves Aoi can be seen as a little bit strange. Akane still loves her deeply and all but he seems to have other plans now, which we learn later in the clock keeper arc. He is not even looking at her directly, having an air of melancholy when he announces he will heal her but not now
That's more of a stretch now, but I think it's pretty safe to assume that Akane has known since a long time what it meant to be the clock keeper of the present, that they had the power to change the timeline. But nothing special has been happening to make the clock keepers take this drastic decision, especially since we know that nothing has been ever changed since the Yugi Twins 4th birthday at least. Which is why he probably never thought about it before. But now that he knows the school mysteries are more important, not just dangerous supernaturals but are protecting the land, and that Hanako has been destroying the yorishiros (which to me, seem to be the seals to keep away the God from the pit/the God Sumire was supposed to marry) he seems to be more aware of this duty in general.
Or if he was made aware of it recently anyways, it's something that the clock keepers must have brought up before the fall festival, being something that even someone as 'Carpe Diem, it is what it is' Aoi Akane may not be able to entirely ignore.
He has been forced A LOT in his role lately too and he clearly doesn't really like it, even if he is good at it.
He finally say 'we' when talking about the clock keepers, and consider even himself as the biggest threat of the school. He doesn't know what to think directly of the supernaturals or seven mysteries now. Knowing that they have an important role to fulfill but still not trusting them at all, knowing of their dangerous tendencies to hurt humans. He can't even look Teru in the eyes when he asks him if the clock keepers are planning to change the timeline over and over again. His feelings for the clock keepers being clearly a difficult case for him to tackle down even if he pretends it's not.
I always said this kinda as a joke, that Akane had the role of a Chosen One but went 'fck no' with it. But I think that it really is this kind of stuff now. Like for Nene who is 'the Kannagi' of the current time and get to make choices and stuff she doesn't want to do. Akane is the same with his role as the clock keeper of the present. Because no matter what he says, he kinda has accepted this fate now, preferring to know what is happening (since he realizes how ignorant he was in the "to the far shore" arc), and having a way to be able to change things. Sacrifying his chance to be 'a normal student'.
But he is not happy with any of it, being the one on the front row to endure all of the supernaturals choices, even knowing that if they don't change back the timeline, he will be the last one to remember. And as said previously, he is now a part of it! He is of course still more human than supernatural but he still acknowledges his role way more than before. Akane hates the way supernaturals work and now what he is doing? Being one of the reason the world is in this state. Of course it's taking a toll on him.
Of course, he doesn't accept everything right away, like Aoi's engagement, it's at first played for jokes but even then, it's understandable with how far their relationship evolved in the previous timeline. He is now thrown into the role of 'the childhood friend who never stood a chance in the first place'. I do think he has a right to be a little bit upset
But after understanding that technically, it's not that much of a big deals in the current events of everything else, since at first most people seems okay, he goes right away to do what the clock keepers asked him to do. Even going to go ask for Teru's help when he knows how much he destroyed his trust.
To finish this long stuff, I think the real big ''death flags' for what is happening right now is of course the fact that he got cursed by the red house (which is a supernatural who has already tried to fool him in the og timeline btw) .
And that there is a chance, like said earlier, that there is only one Akane like him for now, and that he could get stuck here or at least not coming back entirely as the Aoi Akane we knew in the manga (a chance for him to become a full supernatural for example, to be forever now the clock keeper of the present) But for this tbh we don't know a lot it's really more speculation because we know nothing of what could happen to him particulary.
My fav 'suspicious af thing he said' for now in the new timeline is this.
The official translation goes " .. And will love my whole life to the day I die and even beyond that."
When he starts the manga with this.
With the same belief than Hanako that 'death is the end' and now he is considering the After Death, with everything he saw of course, but specifically for him in this case.
Bonus: a thing that is apparently confirmed to be a lie, or he can bend the rules, but he didn't say this in front of Teru and Nene the first time.
And something that I truly think he doesn't know anything about too (my brain truly think Kako and Mirai choose him, and I have some delulu proofs but I digress) Akane do not know sht about the clock keepers and especially doesn't see when people show clear interest in him

Ok, so I know Nimona's gender fluid and the whole shape shifting thing is a queer allegory.
BUT. (Don't worry)
I also think it’s an allegory of neurodivergency and disability! And I wanna talk about it:
To me, the « I wouldn't die die but I sure wouldn't be living » discussion feels very reminiscent of autistic stimming and masking, masking being explained here as the constant state of « that second before you sneeze ».
With that in mind, Nimona and Ballister's discussion in the train hits a lot closer to home for ND and disabled people in general because Ballister says « it would be easier for you » which isn’t actually true and shows how a lot of the world views disability. For people your disability is completely fine until they see it, they say they are disability allies but will shame you if you start stimming etc…
I think Nimona’s reaction to what Ballister said also shows that she is used to that kind of rethoric, she tries to lead him to the true answer « normal? » you’re normal for people if they can’t see your disability, « easier for who? » easier for him, easier for society because if they don’t see it they can ignore it. At the end of that conversation he doesn’t understand though and even think he is a hero for it « a lot of people aren’t as accepting as me » except what he does is actually the bare minimum, treating disabled people like actual people is the bare minimum whether you can see their disability or not!
At the end, Ballister understands that he was in the wrong and goes on to actually see Nimona as a person, as who she is « I see you ». And theoretically/utopically it’s the same for the kingdom’s people BUT it took the literal sacrifice of Nimona’s life for them to start treating her like a person which again should be the BARE MINIMUM. I think it is especially sad that it’s the way our society works as well, disabled people, queer people etc… shouldn’t have to earn the right to be treated as a person.
Thanks for reading all that, byeeee!

Why you can't just regulate dark magic: a practical thought experiment.
A few times in my many years in TDP fandom I've seen the idea presented of "Dark magic can be sustainable, it just needs regulations". This idea, to be clear, isn't inherently a bad one — but it is one that's never quite jived with my understanding of the series, even in the earlier days. So this meta is an attempt to explain 1) why I think said idea simplifies/ignores some of the pitfalls that would arise if they try and 2) doesn't adequately dress some of the core issues that result from dark magic use.
For fairness' sake, I'm going to only loop in the first 3 seasons of TDP's treatment/lore about dark magic, so no "Aaravos possession" or "it rips a hole in your spirit/soul" among other tidbits from arc 2. I'm also not going to argue on the basis of "well we SAW that humans could've regulated it but Chose not to in S7" on account of 1) it being from later seasons and 2) I'd wager some of the sustainability argument is upset with "the show Chose to portray it this way" which exists somewhat outside in-universe rationale. Cool? Cool.
Now, let's dive in:
First off: dark magic's pull on the external environment, which is what the sustainability argument typically focuses on.
Part of the regulations argument that always felt wonky to me was the subset assumption that regulations would, or could be, uniform across the board, and whether it'd exist in just the Pentarchy or in all of Xadia overall.
For starters, if it is just in the Pentarchy, while we know some spells can be done with purely human / non-magical body parts (hearts of cinder, the paralysis cure spell, seemingly tracking spell, Claudia's initial healing spell that involves grasshopper goop), the majority of what we see cannot be (i.e. Clauida's eye of griffon spell, ash defensive spells, fire spell). A reliable cure for famine, for example, requires travelling into Xadia—which, even if regulated amongst the Pentarchy, would still be unpermissible—so more 'greater good' spells would typically rely on legally forbidden Xadian components anyway. There would be a huge restriction on what could be done under dark magic as well as a huge spike in acquiring human body parts (possibly through human trafficking) or taking from the Pentarchy ecosystems to maintain consistent dark magic use (more on this change later).
Secondly, what we see within the first three seasons is that not all magical beings fit neatly into person or not a person category. Animals like Phoe-Phoe and Bait are highly intelligent and communicative; some dragons can talk but not all can't. The Magma Titan's personhood is directly called into question and neither confirmed nor denied, but just because they don't speak the setting's lingua franca (or at all, given that we do have mute characters, like Amaya) doesn't mean that they're not a person.
Distinguishing who is acceptable spell parts on the basis of perceived personhood would be a slippery slope: does a non-talking dragon count or not? What happens if one kingdom decides dragons are off limits, but another doesn't? All of those mages are still going to be crossing over to go hunt them for spell parts because if there's widespread regulation and/or supply and demand (whichever comes first, honestly) they'll have extra incentive to do so... unless the border kingdoms, like Katolis and Duren, don't let them through... which lands us more or less back to where we are in canon in terms of "you can't cross over into Xadia to organ harvest whatever you want" except with humans enforcing it explicitly rather than just Xadia. And if mages do cross the border for plants or animal-animals, there would need to possibly be elven guides assigned to them to ensure they keep to the legal boundaries (similarly to how Lujanne is assigned to the Nexus) or a centre of commerce for bartering... but even that centre would have to upheld by either 1) humans under supervision or 2) elves, who then get to directly control what goes in human hands regardless Again.
The other bigger part is that within TDP canon — throughout, but in the first three seasons... There just aren't that many dark mages. Katolis and Duren should, by all manner, have the most because they're close to the Border and therefore magical ingredients. We know that all the Pentarchy monarchies have mages working at court in later seasons / supplementary material (Neolandia has Tressal, Evenere has an unnamed High Mage, Aanya in S7 reveals she has mages, and Katolis has had a High Mage for presumably 300ish years) besides Del Bar. But Claudia never mentions going anywhere to buy supplies and we don't see the threat of dark mages in any of the towns the kids stumble through in S1 (Ellis') or S2 (the port town, the dragon town which is just hours away from the border); Lujanne never mentions scaring mages away in particular, and despite Viren's magic being very useful in a lot of circumstances in Katolis' immediate history, his daughter is the only other mage adjacent person at court. There's no mention of mage schools or groups of mages work together; Aanya's mages might be a newer thing since her mothers didn't rely on theirs, or they were relying on the crystals > the kind of mage that would know how to rejuvenate the land.
What this can tell us is that there just aren't a lot of dark mages in the Pentarchy. On the one hand this makes sense — the training takes time and expertise to learn, access to numerous tomes and ingredients (as discussed above. On the other hand, it indicates that if dark magic was regulated and became more widespread, there would need to be an increase in mages to fulfil the needs of the people relying on them.
This is more speculation based territory, admittedly, but does make sense. The more useful and reliable a thing is, the more it will be used and relied upon for whatever ends it's effective for. If we took Claudia's basic healing spell that involves only grasshopper goop + flowers (presumably just Pentarchy land ingredients) and treat it as a fail safe for... body aches or a consequence of hard labour (something that'd be useful for a farmer, say), then yeah, people would have reason to want it and pay mages for their services. The more common it became, the more mages you would need, not necessarily just from a geographical standpoint, but from an individualized one
As this is where we get into the bigger issue that the sustainability argument doesn't address (or at least, doesn't address as much: dark magic doesn't just have the potential to hurt the environment/ecosystems and survival of magical species. It also takes an immense toll on the caster's body.
S5 confirms that first time dark magic uses causes the nightmare coma, but this is already indicated in S2, so I'm counting it here. What this means is that dark magic has a very high entry cost. Regardless of whether the spell is big or small (i.e. Callum's first foray was very simple and should've been non-taxing) can send you into a dream coma you may not ever wake up from. It would also mean needing someone to look after your body in a safe and secure care unit of sorts (again, maybe a centre) so you don't accidentally die while passed out (pulling a bit more from scenarios presented in 5x02, admittedly, but still).
But okay, you survive the nightmare coma, and then you can do dark magic whenever you want provided you have the right ingredients for your spells. Great. Each spell that you do throughout your life gradually alters your appearance and breaks your body down steadily from the inside... even if you're using dark magic for good reasons, and while impacted by the scope of the spell, there are no spells that do not affect your body at all.
So there's two options for widespread usage: dark mages are willing, due to pay maybe, to routinely chip away at their bodies for other people's woes and worries (although that may preclude the farmer example from before, as the agricultural class maybe won't be able to afford it?) OR dark mages with expertise rent other dark-magic-coma survivors out with pay (likely those too desperate to choose otherwise) and give them the spells/ingredients to use, but do not do the spell themselves in order to preserve their own body. (This not a new thought, either; more on the cult implications of that here & here.)
Another alternative could be — if we draw from S6 — that mushroom salves made by Earthblood elves can help stave off dark magic corruption, but we don't know if that can apply to regular user dark magic corruption in addition to what we see in canon (dark magic corruption not from usage, but from primal corruption and exposure outside of usage). A dark mage could also pick other routes (purification under the Sun Forge if they ever have a great orb again, or the star ritual) but the former is very painful and the latter is a 1-use-only.
If we're generous and go with the Earth salve one, though, that requires regular usage and upkeep while also not exacerbating the corruption. It also requires rest. This means that you could push a mage to their breaking point and then work them back down, but that'd require a large and experienced workforce to 1) replace them during the recovery period, 2) take care of them during the recovery period, and 3) transporting the goods from Xadia to the Pentarchy and/or tending to an easily accessible batch being farmed within the human lands.
All of this to say — given the toll it takes on a dark mage's body, that alone is an understandable reason as to why there aren't a ton of dark mages and most people aren't willing to take that task on vs primal magic, which while the path there can be gruelling, does not negatively affect you once you're there or for repeated spell use.
TLDR; while there could be ways — if we went the logistical > the thematic route that TDP evidently prefers — to create sustainable sources for dark magic ingredients within the human lands only (and with a ton of other caveats and political maneuvering), these sources would not adequately address the practical barriers to entry that dark magic creates in terms of repeated harm to the caster's body, and the people who would likely be pushed into the roles of the caster. Even a world built to function with dark magic as a core integrated/accepted part of it would not be free of problems, and would create some deeply interesting and/or horrific circumstances to explore. Yet again, no matter which way you slice it: dark magic encourages human and Xadian trafficking all around like crazy.

(Description of Abuse Tactic)
After I finished ExU Divergence Ep1, I stood up to find that I was shaking and panicky.
After I calmed down, I puzzled out what specifically had affected me. Every single time a PC had relaxed slightly too much when speaking to someone with power, focused on their goal, it was sharply thrown back into their face. With very exact timing.
The PC was already in trouble before the second word had left their lips, but they were "allowed" to speak their entire piece, each word a heaping shovel from an already deep hole.
The solid beat of the NPC staring them down in silence before switching gears into abrupt aggression to remind the PC of their place. Half the time the NPC would respond to the PC cordially before making the switch.
There's just a very specific.
It's specifically the letting them finish their sentence before the punishment comes.
I think, even if you have been in a situation for a while and it's happened many times, there's a false sense of security that comes from being able to get your words out. Not interrupted or cut off. Not silenced. It makes you feel like they actually listened, you've expressed something and you were heard. Maybe they're in a forgiving or reasonable mood today, why would they let you say all of that otherwise?
It's because it's a trap.
Cruelty is the point.

Cami... Cami... Cami....
Okay I actually hold Cami my heart dearly. Mostly because back in 2016 when I first entered the TVDU, I accidentally watched the Originals first until my mom and I discovered that The Vampire Diaries was a thing related. (The Originals was my second ever "older kid" show... I was 12 and my mom and I just finished Secret Circle, and the H2o fan in me freaked out when the Originals had both Claire Holt and Pheobe Tonkin, the latter of which playing a character with the same-ish name as me). But when I watched the show, Cami was my favorite character at the time (which I think says a lot that I ship Klaroline so much, bc like I had Klamille first, but I still choose and love Klaroline so much more, and what's not typical with most veiwers is that I watched The Originals first). But she was once, when I was 12, my favorite character, and I am now 21, and a student in both Writing and Publishing, and I think I see the faults in Cami's writing much more profoundly. I don't dislike Cami, I will always carry her in my heart, but I do think the writers did her a huge disservice.
I don't say this as Klaroline fan, but as a Cami fan, that I think her being a love interest for Klaus makes her a shallow character. And I think she deserved better. But if I had any control over Cami, and who she is, and her story. I think I would play off the fact she a psychologist, one who just discovered an entire subtype of human exists, and I think I would want her to be this character who wants to understand vampires and how they work and how they work differently than humans. She went to school for studying humans, and human brains, and knows so much, and now she discovers vampires, and she wants to know. Because they are bloodthirsty, they are intense, they are heightened, and they can numb it all. How does she pick apart the brain? How does she learn? I would like her to be a good person, but this good person with an obsession, one who becomes more hungry for knowleged, more vampiric, in her own desire. Would she encourage a vampire to turn it off to learn? How would this change her fundamentally. Cami and Klaus having a friendship simply because he wants to be understood vs her wanting to understand, but it always having an ulterior motive sounds fascinating. But her ulterior motive is so cut and dry and simple that he can trust her, because she is predictably untrustworthy. And then expand on that, and boom! She is her own character. And again, I really think you then have Cami deal with her own moral dillema, get her own arc, her own agency. She becomes the scientist, but still fills a roll. But then it's not about Klaus's rush redemption arc, but one the themes in the show which is defining humanity. She could be this character who cuts deep. Who gets desperate, who even maybe triggers other characters with questions that are too deep. She could prod into the mind into the emotions of vampires, simply to see how they work. And that moral grayness, and maybe she convinces herself that she is helping, helping by understanding, convincing herself that only she can do this. And then she has that moment when she sees vampires as people, not as monsters, sees her friends, and grows. And it's not about redemption, but connection, which it was always supposed to be about.

The Fate of Antinous
TW; Gore and allusions to SA
OK, so recently I've seen the final stream of Epic: The Ithaca Saga and absolutely loved it. The stories of Odysseus, Telemachus, and Penelope were all handled wonderfully and the songs were bangers, every single one. And the finale definitely ensured that my eyes weren't dry.
Just to be perfectly clear right now: I think that the Ithaca Saga is perfectly fine as it is. It's absolutely phenomenal, and Jorge's musical prowess is on full display here.
That said... I do think there's one thing that would have made the story a little better, at least for me personally. I'm kind of ashamed to say it, but I'm... somewhat disappointed with how quickly Antinous is dealt with. Don't get me wrong, I know that it's 100% in character for Odysseus to shoot him dead on the spot with the vile things he was saying, and it was utterly hilarious to see it happen, but I feel like his presence overall could have been just a little longer, and all the better for it.
Firstly, in the Wisdom Saga Antinous is built up as the pseudo-leader of the suitors, being their main voice and the one who takes Telemachus's challenge. He seems to speak for all of them, similar to how Eurylochus was the voice of the crew.
This role is reinforced in "Hold Them Down" with Antinous leading their rejection of the challenge and their own 'mutiny' of sorts. I mean, just look at this guy. He's plotting anarchy and he's having fun.
And especially near the end when describing what they plan to do with Penelope... I mean look at this guy, he is tweaking out
I mean, all the pieces were in place to have this guy be the leading antagonistic force throughout the saga, and it a way he kind of is. Still, I personally would have liked to see his character get just a sliver more in the spotlight.
Fortunately though, there's already a spot that fits him perfectly and doesn't affect the storytelling integrity of the saga at all. In fact, I think it only strengthens it!
So picture this with me, if you will. "Hold Them Down" proceeds as normal, even ending with Antinous getting shot with an arrow. However, instead of getting shot in the neck like the original he's instead hit in the shoulder or side, something that will shut him up long enough for Odysseus to begin his own boss music. While Odysseus makes his threats... no, promises to the suitors, Antinous scampers away like a coward for the time being.
Later on when the weapons are discovered, Antinous can slide perfectly into the role of Melanthius. They both have beef with Telemachus and threaten to break his bones, and both are leading a large group of suitors to generally make life worse for everyone.
When their efforts are threatened by Telemachus, it's a personal encounter for Antinous. He's already beaten this kid down once, and clearly his 'lesson' didn't stick. So perhaps it's time to reiterate his point. And this would be personal for Telemachus too, since he's going up against the main guy he's been beefing with. But it would also strengthen what makes Telemachus unique in this situation, as he'd be offering mercy to the man who had threatened to break all his bones and violate his own mother.
Of course, Antinous rejects this offer and orders the other men to attack Telemachus, not fighting himself as he still has an arrow wound to deal with.
Now, just imagine the collective dread of the fandom if it was Antinous holding Telemachus and threatening to break his hands (which is an odd recurring thing with Antinous, him wanting to break people's bones) in this image instead of Melanthius, whom we unfortunately know nothing about.
And imagine how satisfying it would have been when Odysseus finally finished the job...
Because as it turns out, Odysseus didn't kill Antinous on purpose, just to make an example out of him. He recognized him as their leader, and decided it would strike more fear into the rest of the suitors if he made it clear that absolutely no one and nowhere was safe in that castle.
I mean, just look at the dramatic shot composition, the lighting, everything. This scene is begging to have this be the death of a named character, a character familiar to us, for whom we've long been waiting to see perish in a rightfully gruesome manner...
Of course, I realize that I don't know the greater context of the Odyssey, so I don't know if this is now things went in the book. But here in Epic, I feel that this would have made for a slightly more streamlined storytelling experience.
Plus, these are just my thoughts. I'll reiterate again, I am perfectly fine with how Antinous is handled in the actual song. It's honestly hilarious to see him instantly get killed off while trying to rally the other suitors. I just think that this would have been a perfect payoff to all the setup around this particular villain. But what do y'all think?

Ranking Every Wolfwood!!
happy wolfwood wednesday! i've ranked every wolfwood and it very quickly got out of hand and turned into more of a character analysis/meta. it was really fun and helped me better understand why i love this guy so much!
yes, really!
i hope you guys enjoy and that my autistic rambling makes sense!
1. trimax wolfwood. yeah he’s perfect. nothing else to say. god bless
while i can’t fit everything i love about him into one post, just know that i’ve written almost 30,000 words in wolfwood (and vash) character studies. so when i say “i like trimax wolfwood” that really means “i am fucking obsessed with trimax wolfwood”.
he’s the perfect mix of silly and heartbreaking, funny and serious, annoying like an older brother, deeply kind, so so painfully human; and a PERFECT foil to vash. simply phenomenal writing.
my only complaint would be that his tits are not on display like they are in the 1998 anime. but i can appreciate the subtly, so this doesn’t detract from his otherwise flawless score.
2. 98 wolfwood. omg hiiiii hehe twirling my hair ohh he’s so handsome what an absolutely beautiful design for him. his nose, his spider-esque shape, his TITS…… they even kept his little whiskers!
on top of an amazing design, he’s a very good balance of silly, irritable, playfully annoying, and serious! he fits pre-trimax wolfwood to a T!
but, as trimax progressed…
he’s cool. too cool. he has too much pull. wolfwood should NOT have swag. genuinely it is imperative to his character that he is, and i say this as lovingly as possible, a fucking loser with no friends.
wolfwood is a deeply traumatized man. he isn’t nearly as charming as we, the audience, thinks he is. no one laughs at his jokes, his insults are crude and immature, he embarrasses himself in front of literal children…
god, he is so painfully awkward. and who wouldn’t be in his situation? to have your childhood stolen and forced to grow up as a weapon? not allowed to interact casually with anyone else during the most important developmental stage of your life?
he's just not suave like tri98 wolfwood is. so, while 98 wolfwood is an excellent character, he doesn’t entirely read “wolfwood” to me. similar to how 98 vash is good on his own, but he’s just not “vash”. this is, of course, the result of making an anime out of a manga that wasn’t even 30% finished at the time. while i don’t understand the reasoning behind this, i know that nightow desperately needed the funds the anime brought in, as well as the motivation to keep making trimax, so i have to simply make peace with the dated characterizations tri98 has.
but don’t get me started on the milly situation. really a godawful writing decision, idk who approved that mess.
3. tristamp wolfwood. he is so bullyable. he’s like a sopping wet cat. absolute fucking dweeb.
i debated this for a long time—whether i should rank tristamp wolfwood above tri98 wolfwood. and i asked myself, do i love tri98 wolfwood because he’s a good character and is similar to trimax wolfwood? does he even remind me of trimax wolfwood at all? well, not really, he’s very clearly based on pre-trimax, just like tri98 vash is.
ultimately i decided i do genuinely just prefer tri98 wolfwood, but i felt the need to defend tristamp wolfwood because i see a lot of fair criticisms but also really dumb discourse throughout the fandom about him. so here’s my attempt at trying to address these:
so, there are some things i really enjoy about him and some things i really dislike; and, unlike vash, most of these criticisms are not a result of time/pacing issues. they’re easily fixable.
like, for the love of god he NEEDS to get sillier. they got the loser part down, but he’s a bit too overtly sad in tristamp. i think he will be more like his trimax self in season 2, but wolfwood’s humor is in-part a coping mechanism and important to his character. he’s an older brother! he’s fucking annoying! he thinks he's funny when he isn't! we do get a little bit of this with him and meryl, when he's tormenting her at the campfire, and that’s what i want to see more of. even if he’s playing it up, he should be working on getting their guards down, convincing them he isn't going to betray them.
since tristamp takes place in a weird prequel sort of canon, i get that he would look/act younger than he is in trimax. i think he was modeled after the teenage wolfwood we see in the flashback scenes of him training for the eye of michael, where he’s noticeably less outgoing and more reserved.
however, this doesn’t change the fact that he WAS silly as a kid in trimax, before his “teenage angst phase” (hate to call it that when it’s more like a “realizing he’s going to die by the gun and not being able to do anything about it” phase). but he’s still a lot quieter and reserved in tristamp as a kid, so i think we really need to find a good balance here in the trigun adaptations.
another example of an easily fixable issue—i really hate how they did the “vash sees how kind wolfwood is” scene, in which wolfwood gives money/snacks to children. in tristamp, wolfwood already knows the kid is zazie, which tells us absolutely nothing about his character. this scene is almost entirely worthless, only good for reminding vash that he should eat, which gives tristamp its own not-as-good hospital yuri scene.
and, so, about the elephant in the room… i don’t think he was whitewashed. let me try to explain my thought process.
tristamp, as far as i can tell, doesn’t seem to be taking any inspiration from tri98, whose wolfwood is very explicitly a brown man. trimax wolfwood i feel is a bit more ambiguous in his skin tone, which alternates between dark screentones and completely uncolored pretty much at solid 50/50 odds. just fairly inconsistent overall, even on the official manga covers.
but this doesn’t mean wolfwood is white in tristamp, and it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his aquiline nose. the notorious scenes of him in the suns, looking white as a fucking sheet, shows us how a 3D environment can diminish a character’s silhouette and distinctive features.
compare this to scenes of wolfwood in a dim environment, or to the 2D scenes of child wolfwood and livio that i can't include bc i'm only allowed 10 pics. he looks MUCH better, much darker than vash, and as they both should appear in such lighting. it just doesn't add up—he should be much darker in strong light if they followed the same color values:
SO, even though i feel like all of this is more of a technical issue rather than malicious whitewashing, that doesn’t mean i think it’s acceptable. it looks fucking awful, and the lighting system needs major improvement to work with darker skin tones.
and, like, at the end of the day, wolfwood isn’t canonically latino, and he doesn't really have a consistent skin tone either. it’s a great headcanon, one i partially share, but it’s not canon. the only ethnicity that could technically be considered somewhat canon is japanese, as wolfwood was based off a japanese singer named tortoise matsumoto. you can see this resemblance best in early trigun!
and i really need to defend his nose!!! a lot of people say he lost his nose but he didn’t!! i promise it’s there!!! another victim of his 3D model, you can only see his nose from the side or in the 2D frame after he gets his shit wrecked. see how clearly he has a very well-defined nose when he’s hand-drawn? this is what i mean when i say a 3D environment can drastically alter a character’s important features, as much as i otherwise adore the animation for this show.
also, if you think nightow would let studio orange get away with not including his nose, you got another thing coming.
in conclusion, while i think tristamp wolfwood is a great start, he’s just not quite there yet. but i have immense faith that the next time we see him, he’ll look and act a lot more like he does in trimax!
i know this is true, because there are already some shots in tristamp where i’m just like. oh yeah. there he is. that’s wolfwood. there's the guy i love so much
...
well, that was long! this was really fun to write and i
oh jesus christ what the hell is that thing
4. badlands rumble wolfwood. ah, now here’s a great example of overt whitewashing. no lighting excuses this time, just blatant colorism.
even if he wasn’t ghostly white, there's just something about his design that makes me viscerally uncomfortable and i can’t pinpoint what it is exactly. he’s just so… angular. he has no scruff, no kitty cat mouth, his eyes are very oddly shaped, almost no eyebrows... i just really hate looking at him!
his ONLY saving grace is how mentally ill he acts in this movie. and his tits. otherwise i don’t really have much to say about him!
ok, now we’re done! and here’s a handy wolfwood chart i made to summarize everything.
really hope this was fun to read and if people liked this i'd be glad to write a vash version or other characters!! happy woowoo wednesday :)
#trigun#trimax#tristamp#tri98#wolfwood#vashwood#a little bit. enough for me to tag hehe#meta#trigun meta#character analysis#also i don't mean to imply ethnicity = skin color but latino wolfwood is by far the most common headcanon i've seen. which i really like!#but it can very quickly diverge into the latino lover trope and i've seen that A Lot in this fandom#and i don't really want to get into fanon wolfwood here bc that's an entire other can of worms
