Uncovering 10 Advanced HTML Tags for Proficient Developers

In the vast universe of web development, HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) stands as the foundation upon which the entire web is built. From simple text formatting to structuring complex web pages, HTML tags play a crucial role in defining the structure, content, and appearance of a website. In this blog post, we're going to delve into the world of HTML tags, focusing on 10 advanced tags that can take your web development skills to new heights.
<canvas>: Unleash Your Creative Side
The <canvas> tag allows you to draw graphics, create animations, and render images directly on a web page. It's an essential tag for creating interactive games, data visualizations, and engaging multimedia content.
<video> and <audio>: Rich Media Experience
Enhance user engagement by embedding videos and audio files using the <video> and <audio> tags. These tags enable you to provide a seamless multimedia experience within your web pages.
<iframe>: Seamless Integration
Want to embed external content like maps, videos, or social media feeds? The <iframe> tag lets you do just that while maintaining a clean and responsive layout.
<progress>: Visualizing Progress
Display progress bars and indicators using the <progress> tag. It's great for showing the status of ongoing tasks, file uploads, or any process that requires visual feedback.
<details> and <summary>: Interactive Disclosure
Create interactive disclosure widgets using the <details> tags and <summary> tags. These are perfect for hiding and revealing additional content or information on demand.
<figure> and <figcaption>: Captioned Images
When you need to associate captions with images, the <figure> tags and <figcaption> tags provide a semantic way to do so, improving accessibility and structure.
<mark>: Highlighting Text
Emphasize specific text within paragraphs or blocks by using the <mark> tag. It's particularly handy for drawing attention to search terms or key points.
<time>: Semantic Time Representation
The <time> tag lets you mark up dates and times in a way that's machine-readable and user-friendly. It's an excellent choice for showing published dates or event schedules.
<article> and <section>: Structured Content
When organizing content, the <article> tags and <section> tags provide semantic structure. <article> is suitable for standalone content like blog posts, while <section> helps group related content together.

introduction. hi :)
hello!!
i wanted to document my process of learning to code :) it's something i've always been interested in, but never got to, because i felt like it would take too much time to become good. well, the time will pass anyways, i need a project to stay sane. i have adhd, so it's somewhat of a developing hyperfixation / special interest for me.
i was using sololearn to learn, before i got paywalled :/ -- now i'm using freecodecamp and will probably also use codeacademy. on freecodecamp, i'm doing the certified full stack developer program which will (from my understanding) teach me to code front-end / client side as well back-end. i knew some HTML to begin with, but so far i've finished the basics of HTML mini-course and am on to structural HTML. After the full HTML topic, the course teaches me CSS, Java, Back-End Javascript and Python.
LONG STORY SHORT!! let's be friends, because i love doing this. also i need help. and advice. so much of it. m

Good morning/evening/night! This is my main blog and I'll mostly be posting things about my coding projects and or my availability to make website templates(I use HTML & CSS). Though other things you may find are anything mean girls related, Renee Rapp, Sabrina Carpenter, and more. My other blogs are:
lesbianreginageorgeisreal -Consists of Mean Girls incorrect quotes and crackposts
beneaththeplatinumsurface -Consists of previews of my writings and a pdf library
That's it and I hope you all have a good rest of your day/night.

I speak 0 languages. My first language doesn't count because everyone has one of those. English doesn't count either because everyone knows English. I took Swedish for 6 years and understand some of it still but I can't form a coherent sentence so I can't count that. And all I have to show for French is the nearly 700 day streak on Duolingo with no other attempts to use the damn language so that doesn't count either.
#I took Duolingo type online introduction courses to html and javascript and I'm currently taking intro to css#those don't count either and idk if I have patience to actually learn any of that or ever use it#personal#not hp

We should have a collection of important posts we can pin to our profile.
#i wanna make an introduction post but the writers and actors strike is too important#i also wanna pin seperate posts regarding the strikes#and the pins should be something that you can scroll through horizontally#so that it doesnt interfere with normal scrolling#the top posts is almost what i mean#small previews - possibly 2 or 3 rows with as many columns as can fit#just scrollable horizontally#also not a web designer because i dont get html#i mean im a python programmer and even then only for games

Some/most of you must know that Arcadie: Second-Born was coded in ChoiceScript before I converted it to Twine for self-publishing (for various reasons).
I have switched to Ren'Py for Cold Lands, but I thought I would share the resources that helped me when I was working with Twine. This is basically an organized dump of nearly all the bookmarks I collected. Hope this is helpful!

Hi Kristi! I'm sure youve already had similar asks but I cannot for the life of me find them. I was wondering how you learned code for your IFs and in general. Did you start with interactive fiction or did you already have an introduction to coding previously? Thanks
Long story short, I took a template (I have a few linked on my itch.io page; I personally used the one from @/cerberus-writes), analyzed it and customized it based on what I understood. It was a lot of trial and error, with a ton of Google searches, but I was so determined to make it my own and stop using Choicescript (which yes, is what I started out with) that I pushed through any difficulties.
To be quite honest, I don't think I could do something like that again, but hey, this goes to show that if you put your mind to something, it can happen.
I've answered a few other asks like this (this is probably my most in depth response to it), but I usually just say that you need to play around with things. If you need more structure, you can always do (free) courses on CodeAcademy or The Odin Project but those mostly show you the basics of the HTML/CSS language, and not necessarily how to construct something you're happy with.

Sources for Celtic History and Paganism!
So today I was reading Ancient Fire: An Introduction to Gaulish Celtic Polytheism by Segomâros Widugeni when it struck me just how many of the sources were the type of thing that wouldn't necessarily come up on a regular search, particularly some out-of-print books, a lot of which are actually available on the Internet Archive! I took some time to take note of each listed source, and tried to see if I could find the right place to request them from (in the case of a handful of articles and theses), find PDF links where they did already exist, basically whatever I could! Some books are available to buy, most secondhand, and while most are available on Amazon, I won't be linking those here. I'd encourage anyone shopping to consider an alternative option if they can! Now, I haven't read through all of these, but the moment I found at least one of them seems to be impossible to find, I was reminded of the dangers of dying media. So I wanted to put these together so anyone could use them. Not every resource listed is in English. Anyway, on to the list~

Introduction
This is a fan analysis about the results of 24 polls posted on Tumblr by the user @zeldatourney. Huge thanks to them to have organized this tourney.
(Keep in mind my first language isn't English, so I might make some minor mistakes)
This is a long post with multiple graphs, so I'm putting a "Read more" button here!
For each game, the question asked was "How high does [game] rank?" with 7 answers possible to choose:
S tier (One of the greatest)
A tier (A favorite)
B tier (I like it)
C tier (Meh)
D tier (I'd rather play something else)
F tier (AWFUL)
I haven't played this game
The poll started on the 2nd of December 2024 and ended the 9th of December 2024.
Disclaimer: This is not a representation of the Zelda community as a whole, but a result of people who saw and voted for the polls between those previously quoted dates.
For the rest of this post, I will simplify each game's name by its abbreviations. For example, "A Link To The Past" will be named "ALTTP". The polls didn't specify if it contains the original games or both the original games and the remakes. They will be named as such:
[TLOZ] The Legend of Zelda
[AOL] Adventure of Link
[ALTTP] A Link to the Past
[LA] Link's Awakening (DX) (+ the unnamed 2019 remake)
[OOT] Ocarina of Time (3D)
[MM] Majora's Mask (3D)
[OOS] Oracle of Seasons
[OOA] Oracle of Ages
[FS] Four Swords (Anniversary Edition)
[TWW] The Wind Waker (HD)
[FSA] Four Swords Adventures
[TMC] The Minish Cap
[TP] Twilight Princess (HD)
[PH] Phantom Hourglass
[ST] Spirit Tracks
[SS] Skyward Sword (HD)
[ALBW] A Link Between Worlds
[HW] Hyrule Warriors (Legend / Definitive Edition)
[TFH] Tri Force Heroes
[BOTW] Breath of the Wild
[COH] Cadence of Hyrule
[AOC] Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
[TOTK] Tears of the Kingdom
[EOW] Echoes of Wisdom
Collected data
Each poll being independent from each other, the number of votes varies from one poll to another.
For each games, I added the percentage (as picked up from the HTML for a better precision). The result is either 99.999, 100 or 100.001, so I sometimes cheated to add or remove 0.001 somewhere. Tumblr doesn't give you access to the exact numbers of vote per option.
So before ranking the games, I have to show you first what games are the most played. Adding all answers and doing:
Played (%) = 100 - "I haven't played this game" (%)
I'll use colours to differentiate 2D games (in terms of gameplay) to 3D games. I'll also highlight spin-off games and multiplayer games.
Here are the games played by more than 75% of players:
We can already see a huge pattern. All the 3D games are there. And the only 2D Zelda game to be played by 75% of players is ALBW. BOTW and OOT are the most played games of the sample, as those were huge turning points and both cultural and commercial success.
We can also notice the difference of 5% between the least played 3D game (MM) and the most played 2D game (ALBW).
Let's continue to look at the other played games:
EOW is most likely low as it's the most recent game, at this time, but also because it's not a 3D game. And the hype train was low compared to TOTK. (3 months of anticipation compared to 4 years)
And finally, the multiplayer games are the least played games, excluding COH. Also worth noting that all the spin-off games cited can also be played with another player, but it wasn't the main focus of the communication. COH being a musical tactical rogue-lite only appealed to a specific part of Zelda fans.
If these polls contained the CD-i Zelda games, Link's Crossbow Training and Tingle games, the score would probably be under COH, but we never know!
I'll keep these colours as labels, to recognize them better in the next images.
Alright. Time to share the ranking. Here is the global result, sorted by release date in North America:
It's kind of a lot to see! Overall, the games are pretty liked. So first, let's take a look at the disliked games:
Please note that the X-axis was zoomed, so we can see the result better.
We can already notice that AOL makes a huge contrast. As this game is considered as the black sheep of the franchise because of how different it is, its reputation mostly came from the difficulty of that game.
Almost a factor of 0.5 divides the first disliked game to the second. TFH the second disliked and the original TLOZ follows.
ALBW is the least disliked, with under 1%, counting D tier and F tier.
But notice the F-tier (red) line. It varies a lot, so let's take a look at the most hated games:
Yep, TOTK is third, this time. As I don't personally think it's awful, it definitively disappointed many by being too close to BOTW and having a lot of issues BOTW didn't have.
Nobody voted "F tier" for ALTTP nor OOT. Same for OOS but keep in mind this game was the least voted one too!
Alright, enough for the hate! Let's look at the most appreciated Zelda games.
Yep, the majority of Zelda fans like 22.5 out of 24 of the games! (TFH being exactly 50, I half-counted it!)
TWW is being almost unanimously appreciated, with almost 97%, and the second one to get this score is TMC, a 2D game, with more than 96%!
You can notice some gaps, like between ST and COH, and then between the Oracle games and TOTK.
Now let's look at the most loved games:
5 3D games are in the top 5, except for SS and TOTK. TMC is very close to beat BOTW and remains the most loved 2D Zelda game. Notice how SS and TOTK make a huge gap between the game before and the game after, like voters use them as references. The two Hyrule Warriors games are, in a funny way, between the Oracle ones.
Let's add a step forward and look at the S tier only:
Nothing changes for the top 9 games. However, EOW seems more nuanced and is less considered as best than TOTK.
Final results
And finally, let's rank them using the Majority Judgment:
The Majority Judgment was created to propose a more democratic way to vote. Each candidate has multiple mentions, and you (the elector) must attribute one mention to each candidate. Since this poll uses this exact method of vote, I decided to rank them all using the Majority Judgment. To count using the Majority Judgment, you must focus on the 50% axis, and look at the category that crosses it (more than 50%). That gives you the tier, and the best tier wins.
When two or more candidates get the same tier, there are multiple ways to rank:
The first way is to put a line at the middle and see which line has the higher percentage. (Less precise but more simple)
The second way is to divide it into multiple tiers by doing the first method again and again until each candidates has a unique tier. (More precise but less simple)
But since I didn't want to compare B++++ to B+++-, I used the first method. It's my democracy and I do whatever I want!
Just keep in mind that depending on the way to count these games may be swapped:
ALTTP and LA
OOA and PH
AOC and HW
SO, for the data. Top 5 is TWW, MM, TP, OOT and BOTW. To be honest, I imagined MM to be a more nuanced game, or at least more controversial, since it has a unique concept.
The A tier only contains 2D games, except SS. TMC, ST and ALBW are the favourite 2D games. ALTTP and LA are always very close. The last one of the tier is EOW.
Only mainline games are in the S and A tier.
The first game of the B tier is a spin-off game, followed by TOTK.

Anarcho-communism: an introduction
Disclaimer: I'm not an anarcho-communist, this is an outside view on the ideology. I tried to be as neutral as possible but biases are always included in our works in some way.
This is a basic website I coded entirely by hand in HTML that is a brief and simple overview of anarcho-communism. I made it as a project for school (which I wildly overestimated the amount of effort needed for it) but I wanted other people to get a use out of it. All the sources are cited. Some parts might look strange regarding what I mention (such as the opinions section), these are just parts I needed to include for the grade. Would love some feedback if anybody wants to provide it, I'm open to changing it since it's been graded already!

just imagine. professor dougdoug
You show up to Professor Wreden's class with a sinking feeling in your gut. Your advisor told you last term that every student in your major should take a programming class at one point- sure, it's not in the degree requirements, but she said it's very relevant to the field.
She even told you the registration number to put in- it's really on you that you didn't realize she gave you the wrong one.
Because you didn't register for CS 110, Fluency with Information Technology, the intro to computer science class for people like you whose programming experience extends to underlining text in HTML.
Instead, you registered for CS 210, Computer Science I, a class whose description clearly reads Prior programming experience expected.
Maybe it won't be so bad, you thought, until your roommate's friend showed you the syllabus from last term. Last night. And yeah, you're fucked.
You'll have to go to the advising office right after class, get this figured out. Surely there's spots left in the 110 class.
As you take your seat, all the way to the side and halfway back in the lecture hall, you pull out your phone to search Rate My Professor. If nothing else, maybe he's not a harsh grader? That's your only hope of passing, really. C's get degrees- if you can even manage that.
Thankfully, his initial rating is pretty good, but that's all you have time to look at before a voice at the front of the room stops all the conversations around you.
"All right everyone, welcome to CS 210, Computer Science I," the voice says, and oh, you must be dreaming.
Tall, brown hair, glasses, facial hair- and those shoulders. Compared to the guys sitting in the seats around you, Professor Wreden (Just call me Doug, he insists) is a Greek god. You barely hear the rest of his introduction as his TA passes out the syllabus, instead staring at his arms and chest. He's wearing a V-neck sweater with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows, revealing copious chest hair and arm hair.
You kick yourself a little bit for sitting further back in the lecture hall- everybody in the front rows is getting an excellent view of the way his sweater and jeans hug his muscles as he paces the front of the room, gesticulating broadly.
Goddamn is the only thought in your brain as he finishes explaining the syllabus and jumps into talking about Python. Even from back here, you can see his eyes get a little brighter when he starts talking about programming.
Gorgeous and passionate- it's hard enough to find a professor that has just one of those qualities, let alone both. And in the computer science department, no less.
How has nobody told you about this guy before?
As you leave class that day, you make sure to take note of his office hours. You'll be going to every single one.
#too bad rate my professor got rid of hotness ratings otherwise professor wreden would be 5/5#dougdoug#professor wreden au#idk i might write more abt this later

!!RED FLAGZ!!
Hi hello! We're Red Flagz!
Seen us before? Maybe on TikTok? Yeah... anyway! We're on Tumblr now! (Granted we have no clue how to use it, but it's a learning process)
(I'm not using my high school classes of HTML coding...)
Anyway! If you haven't seen us before, here's a brief introduction:
Name: Ozzy / 凰羅 (Use either, I don't care :3)
Age: Minor!!! :P
Pronouns: He/Hx/Hym (If we don't share who's fronting, just use these, not They/Them...)
Pride ID: Pansexual & Aromantic (aka not looking to date anyone collectively lol)
Interests: Psychology, Minecraft, Smiling Friends, Kpop (Stray Kids, Ateez, Forestella, P1Harmony..), Criminal Minds, FNaF, Horror Genre in general, キャラクター, VKei!
DNI or you'll just be voided: Endogenic systems (Or just anyone who isn't a traumagenic system.. it's the only real origin...), Fakeclaimers (duh), TransID (i only support fellow transgenders, any other TransID is weird to me...) (Also we kinda block freely?)
Other important info:
We will not make individual alter/part intros for each part, only if they really want to
We won't always do sign offs with posts, if they don't want to share who they are then respect that!
Don't talk to us or any of our parts if you only have romantic intentions, they aren't interested.
We follow the code of "Respect is earned, not given"
We don't support "lesboys" ?? (like people who identify as a boy/male and also a lesbian, and vice verse, sowwy, js never understood em...)
For our introjects, if you have an introject from the same source as them, PLEASE do NOT act like you know them, it's extremely weird and has made our parts uncomfortable several times!! They don't know you. (Also we will never be doing, or answering to any Sourcecalls, don't even try.)

makes me tear up and sniffle and claw into my legs how ??? somber and mysterious p4 was depicted pre-release all the way back in 2008. it sucks how the flash player died and atlus had to make an archive page for their games. because when you go into the wayback machine and see how wonderfully genuine and saccharine to see this game in its own time
I love the murkiness and the use of eye searing yellow, in a way, they're put together that just doesn't feel right. Among all the bright saturated colors, something is clearly wrong. The character silhouettes atop bands of bright color and a predominantly yellow background could seem hip and fun like that winx club petshop flash game you would also play, but the way everything's framed in a TV screen of deep blood red just doesn't sit right. You're nothing more than a spectator watching a story unfold, perceiving things through a screen while you watch these kids go on with their lives.
There's a mystery to be solved. People have died, and no one knows how or why. There are character introductions ending in ellipses, leaving you wondering what they sacrificed in order to awaken to their Personas. There are keywords about the setting and the murders that have taken place. Video clips of the public mulling over a murder and another one right after that.
I can just imagine sitting in front of my old family computer, 4:3 aspect ratio and all, desperately clicking through the html website, hoping to find answers and just hope that these kids are alright. I hope they find what they're looking for. I hope Inaba will be at peace again.
here are some archive links if you want to experience some of their websites:
