it's so crazy to me how within the space of a year the internet's 'widespread' opinion of chappell roan has swung from admiration of an outspoken and refreshing new performer to huge hate trains whenever she so much as breaths. nothing has changed with her as a person, she is still projecting the exact same messages she always did, and yet comparing comments now to a year ago really highlights how active misogyny and homophobia are within media spaces. it's like 'ok, we let a gay woman get too big, how do we tear her down and black her out of these spaces?'. every single thing she says is twisted when before it was a breath of fresh air, now even what she wears is being torn apart instead of being revolutionary - the u-turn is giving me whiplash. and people wonder why we don't have more gay women in the media when men who have done far, far worse are never exposed to this kind of mass villainization

Soap gets Ghost a blanket with little ghosts on it right before Halloween as a pisstake, and he's positive that Ghost just tosses it in a corner somewhere and leaves it.

Until they start touching tips on the regular, and Soap decides to bother him one morning on base when they have fuck all else to do because he's bored and a little horny.

So, he finds himself outside of Ghost's door and just lets himself in instead of knocking because he's like that and instead of finding an angry 'built like a brick shithouse' man glaring at him angrily, he finds a very asleep Lieutenant in his bed. Ghost is sprawled out, hair sticking up at every angle, and Soap can hear him snoring quietly, but what he really cares about is the fact that Ghost has a death grip on the corner of the ghost blanket and the rest of it is under him.

Soap would wake him if it weren't for the fact it's the most peaceful he's ever seen the man, and Ghost is drooling onto the blanket where his face is smushed on it. Suddenly, Soap is overcome with this warm fuzzy feeling in his chest, and it hits him like a truck. He isn't content, just banging his lieutenant. Nope, he wants Ghost. All of him. He wants to wife up his lt.

General PSA but be extremely wary of self-defence advice you see online, particularly stuff aimed towards women.

The only good thing here is the advice at the end where he says be as violent as possible.

The technique is dreadful. It should be obvious that we should not be encouraging women to go to the ground when defending against an attacker - who is in most cases a man.

This type of flashy ‘All women should know this one cool trick’ content puts you at risk.

PIC INFO: On this day 40 years ago -- Spotlight on a show flyer for American hardcore punk band CRUCIFIX (headlining), and the UK's ANTISECT and NO DEFENCES supporting, performing live at the Ambulance Station in London, England, on February 3, 1984.

OVERVIEW: "CRUCIFIX came to England in February 1984 and here is the flyer for their 3rd gig on that tour, as well as their 2nd in London. I was lucky enough to interview them that night which was featured in issue 6 of my fanzine, "Obituary."

Hot take, and I don't remember if Tolkien talks about this in his letters but:

Pippin didn't accidentally summon the Balrog. He MAY have summoned the orcs, but the Balrog would have come anyway, because - like with the Watcher In The Water - powerful ancient things are drawn to the power of The Ring. The Balrog was drawn to the ring, and I'm sure the orcs would be very curious as to why the Balrog suddenly decided to take a stroll all of a sudden.

At most, what Pippin did was to allow the orcs to work out where the Fellowship was before the Balrog got there. and this is actually a GOOD thing, because it means that the Fellowship ran away to the bridge before the Balrog could find them. If the Balrog had caught up to them before they got near to the bridge, they probably would have been a lot worse off AND the orcs would probably be following at a safe distance waiting to pick off any stragglers.

Was it a good idea for Pippin to throw rocks down a hole? (or in the PJ films' case, poke a corpse???) No, of course not. Was it a classic Tolkien case of a decision of questionable wisdom leading to a good outcome? I would argue yes.
