This Meeting Could've Been an E-mail
Sleepy King (Nanenna ver.) Masterpost
---
Diana, along with several other members of the JLD, were sitting in a meeting room. John had stood at the head of the table, having just finished outlining the situation for them, and it was grim. She knew if worse came to worse they may have to sacrifice the boy to keep the Ghost King from emerging into their world and wreaking havoc on a scale only Darkseid had managed before, but she prayed it wouldn’t come to that.
“Would not the boy also smell my father’s blood?” Raven asked.
“Unfortunately. You an’ me are gonna stay back and help plan based on what everyone else reads from the boy.”
Diana nodded along, likely that was also her role.
Bruce, in full Batman gear, came stalking into the room.
“About bloody time,” John said with a huff.
“I would hope you have brought them all up to speed on what you know of Danny while waiting.”
John made an annoyed sound, then moved to sit in a chair near the head of the table. “`Course I did, just waiting on you now.”
Bruce stood in the spot John had just vacated. “Oracle.” The room dimmed and the holo-projector  in the table whirred to life. A picture of a small family standing in front of what appeared to be some sort of business run out of what used to be a family home (something fairly common in America, Diana had learned) took center stage. Obviously it was part of a website, Diana could see the web bar with several tabs across the top of the projection, but it was zoomed into the photo.
“This,” Bruce said, pointing to the teenaged boy in the photo from behind, “is Daniel “Danny” Fenton, the boy used in the ritual last night.”
Everyone leaned in closer to look the boy over. There was nothing remarkable about him, a bit thin perhaps but that could be due to the lankiness that comes with growth spurts.
“He’s from Amity Park, Illinois. The town advertises itself as the most haunted city in America, and from what we’ve gathered they earned it. Most pertinent is that last year they were under attack by the Ghost King.”
Oracle must have clicked to the next tab, the family picture was replaced by an online newspaper article titled “Ghost King Thwarted! Is Phantom a Hero?”
“I’m sorry, what happened?” Zatanna asked incredulously.
“There must be some mistake, there’s no way Pariah Dark got free without a single person feeling it,” Dr. Fate insisted.
Oracle scrolled down the page to show several blurry photos taken of a being that looked nothing like what they’d seen last night, alongside a sketch of the being. “Either this was well researched, or somehow this whole event was cloaked,” Bruce said grimly.
“Considering this wasn’t even the most recent attack on the town and a few of them sound like JL level threats,” Oracle’s modulated voice came from the table’s speakers as she quickly tabbed through a few more news articles before coming back to the one on the Ghost King, “I think it’s more likely something is blocking the whole town from us.” She scrolled down more to show several missing or broken photos. “Especially this Phantom person that keeps showing up in every article about ghosts. Even using the way back machine there’s not a single photo of him anywhere on the internet.”
“If the Ghost King has been out,” Captain Marvel asked, “where did he go? I doubt he’s spent the last year just hanging out in a small town in middle America.”
“According to this news article,” Bruce said, “Phantom, along with help from the whole town, managed to get the Ghost King back into the Sarcophagus and sealed him away again.”
John whistled, “That’s quite the feat, even with help.”
“Are you saying Danny was chosen as Pariah’s anchor because he’s from Amity Park?” Raven asked.
“Not just because he’s from Amity Park, his parents are also self proclaimed paranormal scientists and ghost hunters.”
Oracle tabbed to a few different pages, each one with a different picture of one of Danny’s parents proudly holding ominously glowing green weapons or with vials of glowing green goo. Sometimes one in the background of another.
John squinted at the photos, “Is that pure æther?!”
“How?!” Captain Marvel and Zatanna both asked incredulously.
“They call it ectoplasm,” Bruce stated.
John scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Ectoplasm is a word scam artists in the 1800s made up to steal money from grieving widows.”
“Nevertheless that is what they're calling it. Especially of note that the Fentons run their research out of their home.”
“Where their children live?” Diana asked, horrified at the implications.
“How are they still sane?” Captain Marvel asked incredulously.
“We're not sure they are,” Batman said grimly. Oracle tabbed to a street view of the Fenton home, easily identified by the large sign on the side. The strange addition to the home's roof was an… interesting choice.
The other attendees of the meeting were becoming agitated, several of them shifting in place as they got ready to speak.
“Before this goes any further,” Bruce stated firmly, “all this to say the cult that kidnapped Danny Fenton did so with intention. Amity Park certainly needs a full investigation, but it will have to wait until after this crisis with the Ghost King is dealt with.”
“Æther exposure might explain why the kid could handle being Pariah’s anchor.” John sighed then stood up. “Alright, if that’s all the info you got…”
Bruce grunted in acknowledgement.
“The clock’s ticking.” John left the room, the others all following after.
Diana hung back to speak with Bruce. “We’ll find a solution.”
Bruce just hummed to show he heard her. She knew he wasn’t handling the situation well, a child’s life was at stake and he had to hand the situation over to others. There was only so much she could reassure him, so she chose instead to go see the boy for herself.
The JLD members that had attended the meeting were all gathered in a kitchenette discussing logistics. Diana left them to it for the moment and simply went down the hall to the room she knew the boy was sleeping in. The lights in the hallway were already dimmed, thankfully, so she simply quietly opened the door and poked her head inside. Clark was sitting on a chair next to the boy’s bed. His posture was a relaxed sprawl, but his face was furrowed in concentration. He looked up and smiled when he saw Diana.
“How are you?” She asked at barely a whisper, knowing he’d hear her just fine.
“Guilty, now that I know he mistook me for his father.”
“Sadly this is an ask for forgiveness situation.” She gently pat Clark’s arm, trying to console him.
The boy himself looked like any other teenager, dead to the world while tucked safely into bed. She only hoped they would find some solution and tomorrow he would be tucked just as safely into his own bed.

First Ray and now Nik, I am once again under attack by a hot blonde yandere with superpowers. I was inspired by all the asks about people shipping Oracle and Chronos and I had to write something @criminallyyoursvn CW for Nik being a horny flirt, the internet being horny in general, and also guns.
"I don't know why you're so mad, Oracle," Chronos said, tilting his head to avoid the roundhouse kick you had aimed at his face. Your leg sailed gracefully through the air, dipping into a sweeping kick that he avoided with just as much ease. "If anything I did this city a service."
"You blew up a person's car! What kind of service is that?!"
"First of all, I thought we all agreed that billionaires aren't people," he caught the punch coming for his face, and then the next one, and all the ones after that. It was infuriating how easily he seemed to read you and respond in turn. "Second, it's not like anyone got hurt. Well, anyone important. Don't I deserve a reward for my hard work?"
"You deserve to be locked up in chains!"
"Oooh, kinky," Chronos's modulated voice purred, and you could almost hear the feral grin under the mask. "I'd let you lock me up any time baby, just say when. I'll even bring my own handcuffs."
"For fuck's sake!" Does this man have an off switch?! Your mother was right, you should have known better than to continue quipping with the villain, but you couldn't help it. The smugness rolling off his broad shoulders was aggravating. It needled you, made you want to have him on his knees begging for mercy.
Suddenly his head twitched, gaze slipping to something behind you. Not missing a second, you took advantage of his distraction and lunged.
"Get down!" To your surprise, the villain grabbed your hand and pulled you into his arms, dipping you smoothly into a ballroom-worthy move.
Compounding your surprise was the sound of gunshots colliding with the tarmac. Your neck dropped backwards and you caught sight of a police officer clutching a gun that was still pointed at the two of you.
"What are you doing?!" You weren't sure who you were talking to at that moment, especially when Chronos twirled you up and out of the way until his body was squarely between you and the pistol. One arm wrapped around your waist while the hand of the other flung something at the panicked officer who began to scream and convulse as heavy volts of electricity shot through him.
"Looks like the party's over Oracle." His voice sounded forced, something gritty and dark bubbling beneath the usual grandiosity. "Until next time honey."
"Don't you dare-!" Before you could grab him, Chronos released you into a spin and vanished over the edge of the building. By the time you'd sprinted to the edge the villain had vanished into thin air.
Damn it.
You woke to the warmth of sunlight on your cheeks and flashes of your office space in your mind. You squeezed your eyes shut tighter, focusing on the vision forming behind tired eyelids. It used to be such a disorienting experience, "seeing" in what should be abject darkness, but you'd gotten used to it.
The day's vision seemed rather innocuous: you presumably seated at your cubicle while several members of the office stood gathered around someone's else's a few feet away. Without sound you couldn't tell what they were talking about but you could see smiles and laughter. A birthday perhaps? Party planning?
Nik's not there. Instantly your cheeks heated at the realization that you'd been hoping to catch a peek of the gorgeous blonde in the vision. Your hands flew to your face with a groan before you finally rolled out of bed and forced your mind to turn to more important things. No vision of your arch-nemesis, so hopefully today would be perfectly normal.
A frustrated groan left your lips. You were still smarting from last night's failure, especially after almost getting shot by the same people who were supposed to be on your side! The Oracle suit was bulletproof to an extent, but not getting shot was preferable.
Breakfast with your mother, a lecture that turned into fussing and rant about police incompetence, and then you were out the door. At work, you were surprised to hear music coming from somewhere in the room. A look around quickly revealed the source.
A tiny vintage radio sat on one of the desk tables, the dulcet lyrics of Smooth Operator pouring from silver speaker flanked by spinning knobs and dials all set in a smooth wooden body. Save for a few signs of modern flare it looked like something your mom would have owned.
Curiosity drove you closer, fingertips itching to play with something new and unexpected.
"You like it?"
"Nik!" You spun around, belatedly realizing that this was his desk.
"Good morning," he grinned down at you, that heart-stopping smile that never failed to send the butterflies in your stomach into a veritable frenzy. "So?"
"Huh? Oh," you glanced back at the radio. "I do! It's cool. I didn't know they still sold things like this."
"They don't. Not really," Nik smirked at you conspiratorially. "Got it at an auction for a steal and fixed it myself. Modified it too, these older models can't pick up new FM signals above 88MHz. Ah, sorry. Am I boring you?"
"No!" Truthfully you could have listened to him read out the list of ingredients at a grocery store for hours. God, how was he so perfect? Perfect face, perfect body, perfect memory, smart, and good with his hands too? Nikolaos was so out of your league it was criminal. "Uh, so why'd you bring it in? I feel like Dick is gonna make a stink about 'workplace distractions'."
"Well, I wasn't planning to use it all day," Nik fingered the dial, tuning through static until he found what sounded like a talk show. "I figured it looked nice. It's a little embarrassing to admit, but I kinda wanted to show it off a little."
You shook your head, utterly endeared. "It's not embarrassing! Like I said, it's really cool. You deserve to feel proud. I can't even fix my own plumbing, let alone a 70 year old radio."
"Yeah?" Nik smiled at you, the corners of those mismatched eyes creasing sweetly and revealing those charming dimples that you wanted to kiss so badly. "Well, if you ever have trouble, feel free to give me a call. I'll be happy to clean out the pipes for you."
You giggled, cheeks heating up as your mind went sailing into the gutter before you immediately dragged it back out. You retreated back to your cubicle, berating yourself all the way. Get a grip you pervert! He obviously didn't mean it like that!
Clearing your mind, you flew through your tasks for the day before deciding to take a break. In the distance you heard other employees moving through the office, many stopping by Nik's desk to admire the radio and ask questions. His low laughter settled your mind as you casually navigated to another screen to check the most recent hero news for the day.
Then nearly choked on your saliva when the headlines flashed before your eyes.
Caught in the Crossfire...or His Arms? Tension Heats Up Between Oracle and Chronos! Does Oracle Have a Type? Sources Say It's "Tall, Blonde, and Criminal!" City's Favorite Hero Playing Both Sides? Caught Red-Handed (And Red-Faced!) If Loving Him is a Crime, Arrest Us Too: Why the Internet Can't Get Enough of This Forbidden Duo!
What the actual fuck?! You stared at the trashy, sensationalist, borderline fanfiction-esque titles with mounting dread, and the pictures only made your stomach sink further. You, Oracle, wrapped in Chronos's arms like the leading lady of some 90s romantic drama. Whoever had taken the picture had cropped out the police and neatly edited out most of the debris, leaving the two of you alone in the shot; bodies pressed together chest to thighs, gazing into each others eyes with your figures framed by the night sky.
It was damning, so damning that - had you not been right there - you would have been left wondering as well. Sheer willpower kept you from digging your hands into your hair and tearing the strands out.
"Oracle and Chronos, huh?" You shot up straight, taken aback for the second time in the day by Nik. The man leaned over the back of your chair, lips quirked as he scanned the headlines. "Now there's a pairing I wasn't expecting the press to go for."
"It's ridiculous, right?" You scoffed, heart beating quick from a combination of nerves and annoyance. "I mean, a man died last night and all these reporters care about is shipping clickbait? Like, he's a villain!"
"Well, you know what they say. Sex sells," Nik chuckled. "Don't pay too much attention to the gossip rags, they'll say anything to get views."
"Well it must be working because its all over my front page!" You pulled up your social media and grimaced at the flood of edits, fanart, and heart emojis between eyes and triangles that was all over your page.
Nik whistled lowly. "Oh wow. People really love this."
"Can't imagine why," you scoffed, balking at a detailed piece depicting Oracle bound in rope while Chronos loomed behind behind, a hand tilting their chin up. Lava bubbled under your skin as you nearly broke the button turning it off. "For fuck's sake, this is unhinged! As if Oracle would ever let themself be tied up by a villain. If anything, they would be the one tying him up!"
"Uh huh," Nik was still staring at your phone with a dazed expression. It disappeared in a blink, replaced by a wry smile and shrug. "Don't worry so much. It'll blow over soon enough once the internet finds some other scandal to froth over."
Not soon enough, you thought darkly. "I hope so," you said aloud, just as a burst of static cut through the air. You turned to see a sight that was only familiar because you had seen it that morning: a small crowd gathered around the radio on Nik's desk. Even Dick was among them, equally susceptible to the allure of retro electronics.
"Up next we've got something for all you brand new TimeGazers out there! From Definitely Not Chronos - what a name! - this one's 'Like You Mean It'."
TimeGazers? You mouthed the name bemusedly just as the rough, Latin twang of a man's voice began to drip from the speakers. One of your coworkers gasped, clearly recognizing the lyrics. You swayed to the piano and horns, sharing a glance with Nik who met it with a shrug and his own grin.
Yours quickly dropped from your face when the chorus roared through the office.
"Fuck me like you mean it (like you mean it)! Make me believe it (me believe it)! Walk the wire, it's alright!"
Several hands lunged for the radio, scrabbling to turn it off or turn it down. One of the dials popped clean off, but in the end the room was blessedly silent.
No one spoke for a long second, only the sound of shuffling feet and the clicking of keyboards. Finally Dick coughed and handed Nik the broken dial with a brusque nod and a clap on the shoulder before power-walking back to his own closed office.
Nik glanced down at the broken piece with a wry smile. "Well, there goes that. At least it's not too serious."
"I, uh," you fiddled with your phone. "You were telling me about how you fixed it earlier. I'd like to hear more about that, if that's okay. Only if you want to!"
"Yeah, I do." The butterflies resurrected, fanning themselves into a tornado when he sat down by your desk, knees touching yours under the table. "I'd love to."

Weird Dream concept writing idea.
Danny and Co. Find out that a ghostly artifact was being auctioned in Gotham, and to prevent it from landing in the wrong hands, they decide to perform a heist. At the same time, Constantine asked the bats to retrieve said artifacts, something to do with a request from a powerful entity. The owner apparently is someone of interest (mob family or criminal). The first attempt failed, so a heist is also planned. Que Spy vs Spy shenanigans.
-Tucker having a hacker fight against Oracle or Red Robin.
- Sam magic battle against Constantine.
Danny is playing distraction as Ellie asconds with Artifac.
Edit: I just recalled the dream, and it was the same as the one from Leverage s3 e7. "The two live crew job". Mostly due to the hacker battle scene:
Tucker: (Voice modulated) I got the cameras!
Oracle: No I got the cameras and the sensors
Tucker: No, I got the cameras, the sensors, and le gasp... I got the lasers~

So I've been dealing with a really bad fever for the last few days, and apparently i had written something i have no recollection of writing so here it is:
~~~~~~~
Tim had dug himself into a hole.
To anyone that knew him, that fact wouldn't be too surprising. Tim had always been a very capable individual, but every now and then he became too in love with how capable he was and he would trip over his own ego. Usually the boy could get out of the messes he created, the sudden humbling giving him a clear head, but this time, he didn't think he could climb his way out on his own.
The first shovel of dirt of this metaphorical hole came over 4 years ago, lining up with the first shovel of dirt of a literal hole.
Jason Todd had died. Robin had died.
Batman was in shambles.
And 13 year old Tim Drake thought that because of the knowledge he had, it was his responsibility to fix him.
Batman needed a Robin, and despite what Nightwing had implied, Tim was nowhere near cool enough to be Robin.
So what would make Batman get his own sidekick? If his enemies had one! Batman would be forced to find someone else to deal with the sidekick while he dealt with the actual Rouge.
The Joker was obviously out. Beyond the fact that the Joker was horrible, Tim may be joining up with a villain but that didn’t mean he wanted Batman to hate him.
That meant he needed to find someone Batman didn’t enact a lot of violence on. That got rid of the Scarecrow and the various crime bosses (Black Mask, the Penguin, etc.). Bruce had been close to Harvey Dent, but a 50% chance of death was a percentage that was just a little too high for Tim (oh how that would change). Most of the lower tier Rouges (Kite Man, Mad Hatter, etc.) had gone under after the got wind of Batman's fury, not to mention that Tim really didn't want to spend his days smelling like ketchup. Poison Ivy and Killer Croc were cool, but their skills weren't exactly ones Tim could replicate.
That left Mr. Freeze, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and the Riddler.
The Mr. Freeze was more gentle with kids, their “villiainly” being based on the actions of adults, and the latter three were in it for their own interests rather than the purpose of killing or invoking fear, Catowman wanted shiny things, Harley wanted chaos and fun, and while the Riddler didn't share the same soft spot for kids, he respected intelligence.
Tim chose Catwoman; the least lethal, and the closest with Batman. The skills she could teach him would also be more helpful in other situations.
It took about a week from the day he knocked on Selina Kyle's door to convince her to train him, but soon enough, a couple days before his 14th birthday and a few more calls to 911 about petty thieves left in the wake of Batman’s grief then Tim would have liked, “Stray” entered the scene.
And his plan was working!
The first time Batman had seen the second pair of cat ears he had paused mid ass-kicking of a carjacker and followed the duo, leaving the guy with more teeth then the others.
Slowly but surely, as time went on, the punishments the Batman inflicted started to fit the crime. By the time Tim was 15, he even thought he had seen a small upturn at the corner of Bruce’s mouth as he witnessed a bit of friendly banter between the two cats!
This was when the young villain had started to become a tad bit overconfident. In his defense, he had managed to keep his identity hidden from even Oracle! Lifts in his shoes, a voice modulator, make-up to disguise his facial features, along with a set of the same goggles Catwoman had kept and physical information from being revealed, and Tim Drake never interacted with Selina Kyle so there was no reason that anyone should have suspected him.
That overconfidence is what led him to replicate his plan. If one Rouge sidekick had benefits, then two Rouge sidekicks would mean double the benefits!
Solving riddles wasn’t too hard for the young boy, being able to see double meaning and red herrings was a skill taught to him by Janet Drake, and he took to the escape-room-esque plans for his heists quite easily. The thing he couldn’t figure out was creating riddles of his own. Mother had taught him that knowledge was power, you only reveal it if there was something to be gained, so purposely revealing information about his intention, helping his opponent was not something Tim was accustomed to, not bound to the compulsion to always tell the truth.
If the boy truly wanted to replicate the Riddler, then he would have to learn from the man himself.
Convincing the enigmatic man to teach Tim was easier than it had been with Catowman, the impressive display of bypassing the puzzles that hid the location of the game-playing criminal certainly helping.
Now, 15 years old with an unexplained skill boost in his AP Lang class (the lessons on wordplay were a definite help), The Riddler’s protege, ‘The Puzzler’ became the newest addition to the Gotham Rogues. He resented that name by the way. It was supposed to be Sibyl or Sphinx, they were on theme because they spoke in riddles and though he would deny it, the use of greek figures were his own little way of mocking Oracle, who still couldn’t figure out his identity. But apparently Poison Ivy and the Riddler had brunch once a month (something about being the green Rouges?) and she had heard the Riddler refer to him as “the little puzzle piece” when he was talking about his apprentice and the puzzle theme stuck despite how uncreative the name was.
This is when things became a bit hectic. Not only did Tim have to hide his nightlife from Batman and his parents, now he had to keep his two mentors from realizing that their mentees were the same person.
He managed to convince Selina that the reason he was so busy lately was the AP classes that came with sophomore year, and while it wasn’t a lie, it certainly wasn’t the full story.
Nygma was easier to deceive. Tim had refrained from sharing his actual identity with the man (just because he would tell the truth in his puzzles for the sake of theme didn’t mean that he would be sharing personal information if it wasn’t needed. The only reason he hadn't hid it from Selina was to gain her trust, something that wasn’t needed with the Riddler) so just saying that he was busy was enough.
All the effort was worth it though. Things kept getting better.
Nightwing was seen in Gotham more often, and Spoiler (someone who Tim initially thought was trying to steal his thing by being a sidekick of the Cluemaster, only to realize she was working against him) had been seen fighting alongside the Batman one or twice.
On an unrelated note, Stephiane Brown suddenly had her tuition for Gotham Academy paid for in full by the newly created Jason Todd Foundation.
Since things were going so well, he decided to push his luck a little further.
Unfortunately for Tim, he would soon realize the reason he was known for his bad luck in the future.
It started off like other times. Tim convinced Harley Quinn to take him under her wing, and “Ace” made their debut along with Tim’s 5 in AP Psych (Thank you Dr. Quinzel).
Steph and Tim happened to share a few classes together, and went from study buddies (Tim helping her in Chem, and Steph helping him in American History) to close friends.
Spoiler officially joined the Bats, and there were rumors of another bat joining the clan as well. Well there were no actual rumors, but the newest Wayne kid, Cassandra, had started joining him and Steph at their lunch table so her becoming a new bat wouldn’t be too surprising.
Soon enough though, things went to shit.
To start off, the first time Spoiler met Ace, she threw a brick at his head.
Second, His parents had caught him sneaking out and had grounded him, meaning that he now had to wait until they did their last check on his room at 12:00 to sneak out.
The lack of sleep was starting to catch up to the highschooler. Handling 3 separate nightlife identities was hard enough, but doing so while exhausted was even harder.
After pulling an all nighter to study for a test the night before, he had gone to Selina’s apartment dressed as Ace, and had both costumes not been mostly black he would have been undoubtedly caught before he managed to fix his mistake.
Puzzler once spent a whole night sounding like Stray, and he didn’t think that his “sore throat” lie was all that believable.
Tim accidentally made a cat pun instead of a bat one when engaging in vaguely flirty banter with Spoiler as Ace and Harley had set him down to have the talk, stating that she would love him no matter who he liked and she would be happy to serve as a wingman for him and Catwoman’s protege. It would be funny if it wasn’t so embarrassing.
Third, Cassandra Wayne definitely knew something.
Tim’s “rumors” were right. 2 weeks after Cass had first joined their table Black Bat made herself known. By pinning Puzzler to the ground.
The next day Cass spent the entire lunch period staring at Tim. When he attempted to throw her off by invoking a mix of Stray and Ace’s mannerisms she stopped staring, instead choosing to freak Tim out more by smiling knowingly. At his wide eyes she mimed zipping her lips and throwing away the key only throwing Tim off further. Cass was too smart to not have known, but there was no reason she wouldn’t tell if she did know, right?
Last, but not least, and the worst of all:
Jason Todd was alive.
~~~~~~~
I have no clue where i was going with that last line, but i see a vision, so I'm hoping it will come back to me, but if not, any suggestions or constructive criticism (or a better puzzle themed name for tim) would be helpful

part 1
And Make It Double
Jason wasn't fond of going to the Batcave often. Hell he didn't like going to Wayne Manor at all. It only meant that he had to see the others. Even though he was able to reconcile with everyone, it didn't mean that it wasn't still awkward to interact with them all.
But whatever it was that he found in that alleyway couldn't be ignored. So, instead of heading to the batcave where he has to face everyone, he instead links his comms with Barbara.
"You there Oracle?" His voice, distorted from the voice modulator installed in his helmet called out.
"Oracle here, need something Red Hood?" Her voice called back.
A hint of a smile appeared on his lips, a bit of nostalgia and reminiscence washing over him for a moment.
"I have a bit of a problem here." Jason looked over at the knocked out men, strung together with the mysterious webs.
"Do you need backup?" She questioned.
He shook his head, though she couldn't see it. "No, just a concern if anything. Found a few guys strung together what seemed to be.. Spider webs? I don't fuckin' know."
It went quiet for a moment, Jason looking around, making sure no one was going to jump him.
"Found something." She hummed, earning Jason's attention. "Couldn't find anything spider related in Gotham, but there's a vigilante in New York that goes by Spider-Woman, could be that."
The second Robin's brows furrowed. "The hell is she doing in Gotham?"
"No clue, but reading through the latest news it says that she's been gone for a few months already, after defeating some guy named Green Goblin." Her eyes quickly skimmed through the article.
"Is she trouble?" He questions, his attention being pulled towards one of the men who were beginning to wake up.
"The Daily Bugle says she is.." She trailed. "Though from other sources people are calling her a hero. Lot of mixed opinions about her from New Yorkers. She's done nothing bad though."
Jason only hummed, taking his gun out before hitting the waking criminal in the back of his head with the butt of his gun, knocking the guy out once more.
"No crimes or anything? What about suspicious movements before her disappearance?" He asked further.
Barbara let out a small hum. "Nope. She had been terrorizing a few criminals who all had similar characteristics for some time, but that was in the beginning of her first appearance. And after she defeated the Green Goblin she disappeared after that night."
"Revenge." Jason thought out loud to himself, that was the only conclusion he could come to. "Think she came to Gotham to see if she could find the guy here?"
"Doubt it. It's been a few years already, I'm sure she's over it by now."
Jason also doubted that she was over it, he would know; he was dead set on revenge for seven years. A grimace appeared on his face, seeming to stare into nothingness, remembering how he was before he was barely able to reconcile with Bruce and the others.
"You still there Red Hood?" Barbara called out, breaking him out of his small trance.
"Uh, yeah, sorry, just thinking." He muttered. "Call GCPD over to pick these guys up. They're in one of the alleys on 41st street."
"On it."
Taking out his grappling hook, Jason flew off into the night, still linked with Barbara.
"What do you want to do with Spider-Woman?"
"Lets keep an eye out for her, we still don't know her motives for coming to Gotham." Jason swung from building to building, beginning to feel water droplets fall on his body, the rain of Gotham finally coming for the night.
"Alright, I'll notify the others about her now."
"Sounds good, thanks Oracle." He perched himself on one of the gargoyles that were built on one of the many buildings of Gotham, about to hang up til—
"Hey Jace." Barbara called out softly.
Oh god. Jason already knew what Barbara was going to ask him, it made his throat close up a bit, his heart rate beginning to pick up.
"Ye-ah?"
Of course his voice had to fucking crack.
"Will you be coming to the mansion to celebrate Damian's birthday next week?"
Jason stayed silent for a moment. Of course he was going to go, he had already bought the demon brat's present a few days ago, it was just a matter of gaining the confidence to step foot in Wayne Manor.
"Still there Jason?" She called out.
Crap he took too long.
"Oh, yeah. Yeah I'll– I'll be coming." He cleared his throat, his eyes scanning into the streets of Crime Alley.
"Okay, just double checking." He could hear the smile in her voice. "Everyone'll be excited to see you, don't sweat it." She assured him. "Need anything else before I go back to the others?"
He swallowed hard, trying to retain whatever cool he had left. "No, I'm fine."
"Alright, Oracle out."
Her voice crackled before leaving the line, which left Jason alone with his thoughts.
God he was so not ready for next week
---
The next night, Jason had kept a sharp eye out for this Spider-Woman Barbara had told him about. He'd done a bit of digging himself. He watched a few videos that a few civilians had taken of her. He studied her fighting style, what she looked like.
Of course, he tried to find out who this Spider-Woman was in the first place, but it seemed no one had any clues as to who she was.
It's fine though. It's not like Jason was actively searching as to who she was, he just needed to make sure she stayed out of his way, out of Gotham's business.
Swinging from building to building once more, Jason kept his eyes on the alleys and small streets before deciding to land on the roof of a building. His boots crunched under the gravel when landing, a more softer crunch sounding behind him.
"Todd." The young voice called out.
A voice he knew all too well.
"Demon bird." Jason greeted.
"I am told that you will be making it to the gathering." Damian stood next to his older brother, looking down at the city with him.
"If you mean your birthday party then yeah." The second Robin couldn't help but roll his eyes a bit. "Just not the big one B will be holding. Y'know, still dead and stuff."
The youngest Robin could only suck his teeth. "Not like you were needed there anyways." He muttered.
Jason glanced over at the pre-teen, a small smile on his lips as he brought his hand up to ruffle his hair. He could spot his tough guy act from miles away, he and Damian were two sides of the same coin after all.
"Sorry, someone's gotta keep Gotham safe while all the bats and birds are out partying for the night." He chuckled.
Damian only swatted at Jason's hand, grumbling to himself.
"I do not care if you come or not." He muttered.
Jason couldn't help but smile slightly at this, pulling his hand back.
"Whatever you say."
Damian opened his mouth, ready to make a retort, but he only sucked his teeth once more, his hand going up to his ear.
"Robin present."
There was a brief silence, the young Robin seeming to be listening to what was being said to him. "Understood." He muttered.
"I am needed at a warehouse." He looked up at his older brother who only nodded, seeming looking down at the streets.
"Alright. See you later." Jason's eyes were glued on a woman who seemed to be in a hurry, a few plastic bags hanging from her arms. From afar, he saw a few men stalking her a few feet away.
He began to make his way down to her, standing behind her in the shadows. She didn't seem to have noticed him just yet, seeming distracted with trying to take a picture of the Robin flying above her.
Though as she takes a step back and bumps into his chest, she slowly turned around, taking notice of the vigilante that towered over her.
Jason squinted his eyes behind his helmet as her phone let out a soft click and the flash had gone off.
His helmet scanned her body, a small box popping at the top right, showing him that her heart rate had slightly quickened, not surprising.
"You do know you make a pretty easy target with all those bags you're holding." He spoke, his voice distorted as usual.
"Good thing I was making my way home then." She chuckled nervously.
She had stared at where his eyes were supposed to be, only to then look away, her heart rate rising even more.
"I'll go with you then, unless you want them to take you instead." He nodded his head behind her, making her turn her head and see the men.
Jason took a step into the dim street lighting and stared straight at them, making the men quickly scatter, not wanting to be involved with the infamous Red Hood.
"Oh uh, no that won't be necessary." She let out another nervous laugh. "My apartment isn't that far from here and uh..." She glanced up at the Red Hood before quickly looking away, intimidated by his large build and towering body.
It was quiet, Jason staring her down. He couldn't lie she was acting a bit suspicious, though then again it could be her being frightened since it was Red Hood who was standing in front of her.
"You're not serious are you?" He finally spoke out. "Gotham's filled with criminals, and no offense, I'm sure you're capable of defending yourself, but you're a woman. You're better off with me walking you home." He crossed his arms, shifting his weight onto one leg.
He was right. Although she could handle a few thugs, she didn't bring her web shooters with her this time. If any of them decided to pull a gun on her, it was most likely over.
The secret vigilante stayed quiet, biting the inside of her cheek, trying to think of something else to say, just so she didn't have to interact anymore with the more scarier of vigilantes she's looked up.
"Uh well.." She cleared her throat, looking up at him, trying her best to calm her racing heart, her senses heightening from her anxiety.
She thought hard, looking at the man who stared at her, waiting for a reply from her. Her brain did it's hardest to rack something up, until she remembered all the news she's read about him.
Bingo.
"Wouldn't it be more dangerous if you were to walk with me?" She questioned, giving him an innocent smile.
He tilted his head a bit at this. "Is that so?"
The spider quickly nodded, her smile ever growing a tiny bit more larger at her quick thinking. "If you think about it, if people on the street were to see you walking me to my apartment wouldn't that technically endanger me even more? Since, y'know, you are the big bad Red Hood. I'm sure you have plenty of enemies that want your head."
Her hands moved around a bit as she talked, Jason only watching and listening to her ramble in slight amusement.
"And if they were to see you walking me home then they can only think that I'm some sort of weakness for you, which, I'm really not but hey they don't know." She chuckled, looking up at him.
Her long pause made the air almost seem a bit awkward for her, making her shift a bit. Letting out another laugh, she cleared her throat once more, straightening her posture a bit.
"So.. Thank you, truly. But I think I'll be just fine going home without an escort." She smiled, trying not to squirm under his gaze.
"Alright." He hummed, setting his hands on his waist.
She blinked, looking a bit baffled. "Really?" She sputtered, before quickly changing her expression, the tone of her voice changing as well. "I mean– Of course! It's only right that you—"
"I'll just watch you from the rooftops instead."
"I'm sorry?"
A distorted huff of amusement filled her ears as the two vigilantes stared at each other.
"You're right that me walking you home would only but yourself in more danger, but leaving you to go home by yourself also puts you at risk still, so," Jason grabbed his grapple from his utility belt.
"I'll escort you from afar."
Jason's amusement only rose as he watched the woman open and close her mouth, trying to form words or another excuse as to why he shouldn't do that.
Seeing as how she wasn't able to come up with anything else, a low and short chuckle left his mouth.
"Well lets get going then. The faster you start walking the faster you'll be out of danger." He pointed his grapple at a building, his finger beginning to press the trigger.
"You really don't—" But he was already flying into the air and back into the shadows.
She could only watch in disbelief, staring in the direction that he had flown off to. If she squinted hard enough, she could somewhat see his silhouette perched on a rooftop.
She strained to see him wave a hand at her, most likely motioning her to get back to her apartment. Letting out a small huff of irritation, she began to walk into the direction of her apartment, muttering under her breath.
It was total silence while walking back to her apartment. Although she would spot a few thugs eyeing her from alleys, once they heard the sound of a grapple and a shadow passing over them, they quickly minded their business, as if she wasn't there.
The woman was thankful to say the least, especially since she was able to get herself out of a situation that may have ended up in her having a brawl with the vigilante. Just looking at him made her entire body ache.
Even if that radioactive spider had increased all her senses and strength, she was sure that man could pummel her into the ground without having to do much.
Continuing to walk through the dimly lit streets, she soon made it to her apartment building, relief flooding in her body that she was finally home. Before entering the building, she looked over her shoulder, her eyes scanning the shadows, trying to see if she could spot the Red Hood.
Surprisingly, for a big guy who had a helmet that was completely red, he was good at hiding in the darkness.
Giving up in her search in finding him, she made her way inside, the warm air from the heater engulfing her body once entering.
Off in the distance, Jason watched as the woman made her way inside. With crossed arms, he watched all of the windows of the building, waiting patiently until he noticed one of them had lit up.
Letting out a short hum, he jumped off the roof, grappling to the next one and so forth, continuing his night patrol.
---
Jason quickly put his jacket on, not caring if his hair was still a bit wet. Grabbing his keys he had tossed onto the coffee table, he scooped his helmet into his arms before roughly shoving it onto his head. Slamming the door that led to the garage of his safe house, he pressed a simple button that made it creak and groan as it lifted itself off of the ground.
Getting on his bike, the two wheeler roared to life, the sounds echoing in the garage as he sped out, the doors slamming itself shut once Jason was out. Speeding through the streets, passing by cars at a speed too fast, Jason had hoped that he wouldn't be too late for the brat's formal birthday.
Jason wasn't fond of any of the parties that Bruce either attended or hosted. The room that it was being held in always reeked of tacky perfume and cologne, just like every person there trying to please Bruce.
A bunch of ass kissers that irritated Jason. He was sure Damian thought the same, so he thought making a small appearance would make it slightly better, even if it costed him drowning in old lady perfumes.
When he had made it to the Batcave and tried to sneak his way through the halls of the manor, he had a small run in with his favorite, and only, butler. After a small catch up, and a bit of coaxing from the butler, Jason ended up having to attend the party without his gun.
Taking a deep breath, Jason entered the ballroom having to squeeze his way through a few people in order to make himself comfortable in a corner.
With his back leaning against the wall, he crossed his arms and scanned the room before it landed on Damian; his cheeks were currently being pinched and pulled at by a few elderly ladies.
Jason couldn't help but slightly snort at the scene, amused at how deadly a glare Damian was giving them when they looked away from him.
"Jaybird!"
Jason's smile instantly disappeared at the resounding voice of his older brother. A bright smile on his face, he waved at the second Robin, having grabbed to champagne glasses on his way over to him.
People glanced at Dick, whispering to one another about the eldest, their eyes soon dragging over to Jason who shifted uncomfortably.
Just fucking great.
"I see you were able to make it." Dick grinned, lending out the other glass of alcohol to him. Jason only snatched it from him, letting out a small grumble while taking a small sip.
"And I'm starting to regret it." He grimaced.
The first Robin only chuckled at this, taking his own sip from his glass. "You see Damian yet?" He questioned, eyes staring out into the crowd to find the youngest.
"I was, but then I saw that he was a bit busy so I decided to leave him be." He hummed.
Once finding Damian, Dick couldn't help but snicker a bit now knowing what Jason meant. "He is the star of the show." He mused. "Hey, you don't think—"
BOOM!
"No one make any sudden moves! Or the brat gets it!"

For the Hell of it - Real, Alive
Tumblr media
Character: Jason Todd x civilian! Fem!oc
Rating and Warnings: G. Description of dissociation.
Word Count: 1,589
Summary: Jason struggles after a Joker breakout at Arkham, and turns to Andy for comfort.
Masterlist
He had intended to tell her the truth. He really had.
Plans had been sketched and trashed, messaged drafted and deleted, and a purpose built hang out planned and cancelled. Keeping her in the dark was only getting harder.
He knew she was suspicious. She’d be a fool not to be. The NDA he made up to excuse never talking about his work in ‘private security’ was doing a lot of heavy lifting. Some of the other lies he’d given her at the beginning didn’t hold up under long term scrutiny. And that wasn’t even touching his own screwups.
He had told her about a few too many of his favourite restaurants and food trucks only to be treated like a stranger when he took her there. He had disappeared with a paper thin excuse in the middle of hanging out when KGBeast broke out of Blackgate in desperate need of an ass kicking.
And then there was the day he had handed her the wrong gym bag, telling her to grab the books from it. She had pulled out a handgun. She put it back in without a word and they swapped bags silently. He hoped she didn’t notice the heavy modifications and thought it was just a regular concealed carry, nothing scandalous for the Alley. She had a troublingly good poker face. He really had no clue what she thought of all his bullshit.
He was afraid. He was man enough to admit it. Andy meant too much to him to lose her over his lies, if she took it poorly he didn’t know what he’d do.
Then she figured it out on her own and all his plans were for nothing.
He was in full Red Hood gear despite it being early afternoon, speeding towards her apartment to talk about it. Dread and relief coiled in him in unequal parts. He didn’t have to pretend anymore, if he still had someone to pretend for. After all she had gone through, she had every right to never speak to him again.
His earpiece buzzed with Oracle’s signature voice modulation.
“The Joker is in the middle of an Arkham breakout. This is top priority, everyone, drop everything else.”
He gripped his handlebars so hard his knuckles ached. He leaned into a sharp u-turn and sped away back the way he came.
Every other concern was secondary. All the bats and birds converged as Batman gave terse order over the coms. Word got out and the news descended over the city, bringing a silent panic to every street. Jason hated it. In those moments it felt like Gotham gave up and admitted it was Joker’s city.
Not on his watch.
Their plan worked with nary a hitch. Oracle had caught it so early they could, for once, act before the day’s dastardly scheme was executed. Whatever their differences, the family worked together seamlessly when they needed to. Only an hour after midnight the Joker was back in his cell and sulking like a diva denied her solo.
Nothing blew up. No hostages were taken. No backs were broken and no children were beaten to death in remote warehouses. They found out about the joker toxin bombs planted across the southside with enough time to spare and sent the cops the locations and disarmament instructions.
“Not bad for an Arkham breakout,” Tim said, sitting on the medical bed in the batcave. Batman was wrapping his arm up.
Jason glowered at the report he was writing. “Two trashmen died.”
Tim’s eyes narrowed at nothing. “We always fall down at the human element. The best security in the world can’t stand up to someone turning it off. There wasn’t anything else we could have done today.”
Jason looked up. Dick looked at his feet.
“We can always be more prepared,” Batman said, neutral. He looked fixedly at the sprained wrist in his hands.
Jason clenched his jaw. He stomped out before the words roaring in his chest had the chance to escape. Before someone gave him an excuse to throw a punch.
There wasn’t anything we could have done.
Didn’t denial taste nice when the price was someone else’s life? He got on his bike and sped away from a silent cave.
He had found the two bodies discarded outside the prison. Just regular folk, paid to do a regular job. Wrong place, wrong time.
They were acceptable losses. That was what Bruce decided when he kept the Joker alive. And now, it was what Jason decided when he did the same. He sold them out for the right to operate in Batman’s city.
His own hypocrisy sickened him.
Just as he made it back to his apartment his phone buzzed with a text. He expected something saccharine or smothering from Dick. But no–it was Andy.
‘Are you okay?’
Of course, she knew who he was now and what he would have been doing over the last twelve hours. She didn’t know just what this case meant to him. She didn’t know he wanted to break into that prison and put a bullet in that maniac’s head. That he hated himself for not doing it.
‘No.’
‘Anything I can do?’
Of course not. There was no fixing it.
He methodically cleaned all his weapons and armour, checked his gear and put it away. He went through his post-patrol rituals and tried to decompress. His hands were shaky throughout. Except for when he held his reassembled pistol. Then it was dead still.
What did he come back to life for, if not this? What was he even doing here?
The sight of his comfortable bed sickened him. The fancy apartment too. What right did he have to it when there were people in his city, defenceless. Unmourned. Unavenged. Was this his justice?
Laughter roared and giggled and simpered in the back of his mind.
It was going to be a bad night.
Despairing, an idea jumped at him. He flipped his phone the right way up on the table and typed.
‘Can I borrow your dog?’
‘Of course’
He grabbed a jacket and headed back out. The city was quieter now. It felt watchful and suspicious. These things didn’t usually go so well and nobody wanted to risk celebrating too early.
Andy opened the door to him almost immediately. She stepped aside and he came in without thought. Marlow was happy to see him and rubbed against his side.
Andy was in an overlarge flannel button up pyjama top and soft cotton tights. Of course, it was the middle of the night. He remembered too late that she had an early class tomorrow. He was a terrible friend.
“Sorry for waking you.”
She shook her head. “You didn’t. I messaged you.”
They stood an awkward distance apart in her kitchen. He felt unmoored now, his anger and self recriminations strong but mixed up in the morass of his chest. She looked like she was going to ask, and he dreaded it. She opened and closed her mouth.
“Are you… Can I-?” She opened her arms tentatively.
He nodded. She wrapped her arms around him. He engulfed her in turn. He didn’t deserve it but she offered, he told himself. She knew who he was now, what he did, what he hadn’t done. She still offered. He clutched her against himself.
Her breath brushed over his collarbone. She was warm and solid, real and alive. So was he. He was alive. He was real, he was here, and he was alive.
“You are,” she whispered. “You’re in my apartment and you’re alive. I’m so happy you’re alive, Jason.”
His eyes itched. He hadn’t meant to say any of that out loud.
“You barely know me,” he rasped.
She shrugged in his arms. “Still.”
He sucked in a desperate breath. Had anybody been glad he came back? He detangled himself from her before it could be too much. She turned away and busied herself with the kettle, obviously giving him some privacy. He looked up and listed in his head physical sensations and objects he could see.
There was a glowing red digital clock on the microwave.
He walked out to the living room. The dog came with him, glued to his side. Andy reappeared and pushed a steaming cup of herbal tea into his hand. The smell was rich with licorice. It brought him back to himself a little bit.
She smiled softly up at him. No fear or suspicion he could find in her eyes.
“You remember where the blankets are, right?”
He nodded, which was about as much as he was capable of at present.
“I’m going back to bed then. Give a shout if you need anything.”
“You are far too trusting,” he said, because he felt someone should. She had to have some idea of how dangerous he was. She had been hurt before, how could she just let him back in like this?
She gave him a long look. “No, I’m not.” And she walked away. “Good night, Jason.”
“...’night.”
The bedroom door shut, taking the light with it. He sat down on the old couch. Aches he had been too stressed to notice became suddenly unmissable. Oh, he was tired.
He kicked his boots off and lay down. A very large dog climbed up and curled up on top of his feet.
“You know your mom doesn’t let you sleep on the couch,” he sighed.
“Wruff.”
He almost managed a smile.
“Fine, but I’m kicking you off when I stop feeling my legs.”
He leaned his head back on the hard armrest and slowly drifted off to sleep.

The Lost Bay update
Hey folks, sorry I've been away for a while, I've been busy working on The Lost Bay - First Look., and I’ve just dropped the latest update!
I think we’ve reached a milestone here!
What’s new?
1.An Area generation/exploration procedure for the Sleep Country district. You can generate 10 000 000+ different areas with just a few dice rolls!
In the last few weeks I chatted with members of the community asking how they’d want the exploration tables to be designed. Here's the feedback that I got.
Half of the folks said they’d want more lore injected in the tables, to get a better sense of the game world.
The other half asked for modular tables that allowed for maximum replayability.
With this update I think I’ve reached a nice compromise, not going too much into details here, but basically I’ve split where + who + what into separate tables. The procedure is highly reusable, and the what table entries have strong moods that help define the setting. And, you asked for it, the tables are written taking into consideration solo play.
2.A beautiful map designed by Strega Wolf van den Berg, it’s so exciting to see a physical representation of the Bay!
Tumblr media
3.Two non-human NPCs: the Dogpack and the Spider Nest. I had fun designing those two, particularly their Moves. Moves are a simple way to give personality to the NPCs you create, and to make combat a surprising and fun experience.
4.I’ve modified combat rules and a few other mechanics, the game engine is more consistent, quicker, simpler. Small tweaks that have great effects. If you are planning to play the game I’d recommend downloading the latest version. You might not notice all the revisions, but trust me, they’ll make the gameplay experience better.
What’s coming up next?
Not 100% sure in what order, but here are the things I’m working on:
A couple more Vibes (playable character classes)
A new Reborn Vibe (post-mortem playable character class)
More NPCs
Exploration tables for the Mall Nation district
Errands prompts (solo and group adventure prompts)
Solo support (oracle, and complications table)
Better online character keeper/sheets
And the Creator Kit
Creator Kit and Third party publisher license
As I’ve mentioned a few times already, the development of the game has been influenced so much by the feedback of the community. And I know that several of you have plans about making supplements/adventures for TLB. The Creator Kit, which will probably drop with the next update, is intended to support the community and the creation of 3RD party modules. It’s a series of guidelines and toolkits to facilitate adventure design, like: take off checklist, tips, designer commentary, and modules you can use to build the next kick ass TLB thing.
Along with the release of the Creator Kit will come the Third Party Publisher license, I’ll reveal more about it in the next update.
If you haven't done yet, grab the game! If you're on a limited budget don't worry, Community Copies are regularly available for free https://the-lost-bay.itch.io/thelostbayrpg
Have a great day/week

The Guilt Never Really Left You Know
by neuro_psyche Red Hood’s modulated voice is bone-chilling. Nearly every sleaze-bag in Crime Alley had become accustomed to the gravely robotic nature of it. The unnatural shifts in his words and the variations in pitch being just ever so slightly off putting. Borderline uncanny, yet everyone who’s heard it knows there’s a human behind that voice. A man who choses to blow a hole through someone’s skull without so much of an afterthought. Though, no one had ever heard that voice scream. Not until tonight.   Or, Red Hood is captured, Nightwing saves him and while helping him afterwards, puts the wrong puzzle pieces together and confronts him which does not go quite how he planned.
