Batman took care of kids, and Mr. Wayne was really nice. He would at least let Tim warm himself back up. Maybe he could even stay just until the power came back on.

Dick froze—every argument, every accusation thrown between the two running through his mind. He wasn’t sure if he could take it—to hear it spoken truthfully and directly. Hearing all of Bruce’s hatred, contempt and disappointment in him poured out not just in a heated yelling match in the cave but in front of Damian, in front of the whole world.

Bruce coughed, blood flicking from his lips from a failed attempt to bite his tongue, and Dick hung his head in resignation. It was at least nice to know Bruce wasn’t eager to dump out his true feelings.

“His suit.” Bruce choked and the room went silent.

And okay, fine, Tim can admit it: his parents paying off a school official to circumvent social services just to see him was sketchy at best—probably illegal at worst. They really shouldn’t have done it. Bruce and Alfred would be furious to find out that they had. Not to mention Jason, who would go absolutely apeshit.

But–

But it was also just really fucking sweet of them.

Tim hasn’t felt this loved, this cherished, this fought for and desired by his parents in years.

Doesn’t he at least owe it to them to hear them out?

“Picking the lock,” Jason says, like it’s obvious. “Didn’t think you’d appreciate me breaking the door down. I can, if you want. I am absolutely fine with that option actually.”

Bruce is in a bad mood after a case doesn’t go entirely to plan, and Tim is determined not to do anything to make it worse.

(Unfortunately, his shrimp allergy didn’t get that memo.)

“Yes,” Tim says immediately. There is no hesitation there, no strange inflection to his voice. He doesn’t avoid Bruce’s eyes, nor is he fidgeting with anything.

That is how Bruce knows he’s lying.

Instead of threatening her infant son with the boogeyman, Janet Drake tells Tim that Batman is going to come for him if he doesn't behave. Years later, Tim realises that if he wants a fast way to get adopted, all he has to do is commit a crime so that Batman will take him away.

Years later still, Tim knows that no one is coming for him, but that doesn't make him any less scared. It also doesn't make him any less interested in Batman and his Robins.

Tim looks at Bruce like he's crazy, which he clearly is, because Tim's birthday is on August 14th, not today, September 20th. Bruce should know this, considering he had given Tim the day off and Dick had taken him out for dinner.

"Bruce, my birthday is in August," Tim says plainly, exchanging looks with Damian, who knows too much about Tim after his attempts at trying to get rid of him (which Tim has mostly gotten over by now) and clearly knows that his birthday is in August. ]

What's one fanfic that you keep reading over and over again?

Mine is secrets un(revealed) by TheyReapWhatWeSow which is a reverse batfam fic. It never fails to scratch that "found family" "hurt and scared dick grayson" itch for me. I can't believe how many nights I stayed up just to finish rereading this for the nth time.
