batman AU where everything is the same, exept that the Al Ghuls are the official royal family of the soverain city state of Nanda Parbat.

Like, its a very small country, but a powerful one and absolutely fuckall is known about their royal family, or the nation itself bc it's impossible to send spies inside without never hearing from them again. Nobody, exept for immidiate family even realizes that Damian is an actual crown prince of an actual country.

Like, just, him, on twitter. and then someone makes a joke about him and the way he is so overly formal in public. And Damian is like, 'yeah, I'm representing my whole country here, I'm the crown prince of my nation', and the person on twitter is like...

'Wat?'

And then Dick comes in the comments like. 'Look up the royal liniage of Nanda Parbat before you embarras yourself, I am begging you.' que a small twitter freakout bc holy shit, the youngest Wayne kid is actual fucking royalty, also, apparently Brucie Wayne fucked a princess, what's up with that?

the consequences this would have. Imagine this. They're at a gala, and IDK Black Mask shows up to rob/kidnap/kill them. The hired security never stood a chance. Bruce is there and is already making plans to slip out, and appear as batman.

interestingly enough, Damian is not making similar plans.

Damian just waits.

No more then two seconds later, at least 12 shadows crash trough the roof and absolutely massacre everyone there. No mercy, just murder, before making a protective ring around Damian, who is still completely cool and composed.

The cops try and make a stink about the 2 dozen dead henchmen and the dead Black Mask, but Crown Prince Damian just calmly walks over and tells commissioner Gordon that these were his body guards, and are therefore allowed to do these things if they judge it to be in favor of the crown prince's safety.

Nobody can really argue with that.

Two days later, at school, there are some upperclassmen who are being bitches, and are like. 'Where are your bodyguards now?'

'Just because you can't see them, doesn't mean they're not here.'

And a red dot appears on the boys forehead.

I just think it would be really funny if Damian Al Ghul was a genuine prince, in an official, international way. PS.

Even better if the Al Ghul's adopt Jason along the way, and Jason just, straight up also becomes a prince. He's not blood related tho, so he's still in line behind Damian, even though he is the oldest.

That would be insanity. After the Black mask fiasco, Jason just orders the shadows around like. 'okay, after we're done here, escort the crown prince to the secure location.' or whatever.

Someone films it. It goes viral.

People are like; 'what the fuck, why can you order them around like that.'

And Jason is like; 'I am the second prince, therefore, by tradition, the General. The Nanda Parbat fighting forces are under my command.'

and all of twitter is like; ????????

“Oscar?” The awkwardness in your voice wasn’t lost on you, but you’d rather have Oscar see you in your bra  (or lack thereof) and underwear than have to be in that dress one moment longer. 

“Yeah?!” he called from the other room.

“Can I have some… help?” you asked and held his footsteps approaching. 

“Everything alright?” He asked, poking his head into your room. He made eye contact with you in the mirror and smiled. 

“Can you unzip my dress?” you asked, shy and uncomfortable. 

He swallowed. “Yeah,” he nodded. “Sure.”

He tried to act cool about it, but he was shitting himself. He apprehensively started pulling on the zip, one of his hands on the curve of your back. 

“Can you… close your eyes Osc?” you asked, feeling humiliated. “I’m not wearing a…”

Oh. “Yeah, of course,” he smiled and closed his eyes, gently pulling the zipper down. God almighty he was hard. No bra under the most gorgeous dress he’d ever seen on you? He was glad he’d been your ‘date’. He felt you quickly pull on a hoodie and the loss of contact made him frown. 

“Coast is clear,” you chuckled awkwardly. “I’m dressed.”

He opened his eyes and saw you standing in front of him, the image of exhaustion, but you still looked beautiful. “You look beautiful,” he whispered, his mouth moving before he could think. 

“Goodnight Oscar.”

He couldn’t read the expression on your face. The disappointment, o-or was it happiness? Were you annoyed by him? Did you want him to stay?

“Goodnight,” he smiled, pressing a kiss to your cheek and going back to his room to have a mini-freakout.

Funnily enough, Kigali to Australia is a 22 hour-long flight. A long, warm, uncomfortable 22-hour flight, even though you were in business class with Oscar beside you. 

“Why is it so hot?” you complained, fanning yourself with your hand. 

“You’re wearing a fleece,” he pointed out, a hint of laughter in his voice. “Of course you’re warm.”

“I don’t have any other clean clothes,” you sighed. 

“I have a t-shirt if you want it?” he offered, taking it out of his hand luggage.

“You just have a t-shirt in your hand luggage?” you questioned, taking it out of his hands and pulling off your own fleece, replacing it with his t-shirt. 

“Yeah,” he answered, shrugging. “It didn’t fit in my suitcase.” 

“Well, thank you anyways,” you said, putting your headphones back on. “I’m going to try and get some sleep.”

He nodded, trying to seem casual. He was anything but casual. You were wearing his shirt. In what world would he be casual about such a momentous occasion? He let himself stare at you as you closed your eyes, turning toward him to lie down, and he just… admired. He didn’t know how long it had been until the overhead lights went out and the plane went into low-lighting, so as to let people sleep.

You opened your eyes to see Oscar looking at you. “Can’t sleep?”

He nodded. Lie.

“Want a panadol?” you offered, getting out the cold medication that was infamous for knocking you out. 

“Yeah, thanks,” he yawned, taking one from your hand. You both tried to ignore the way the touch gave both of you shivers. “Night.”

“Night,” you smiled. 

It was going to be a long Christmas break.

Honestly, the first few days in Australia were hectic. You got past the run-up to the holidays without any more awkward incidents between you and Oscar, mostly because his sisters ‘stole’ you from him. While he wasn’t totally happy about that, it was nice to see you have a bit of freedom and enjoy yourself. They showed you all around Melbourne, brought you shopping, brought you to the beach, and everything else. 

But you slept in Oscar’s bed every night. Not enough room in the house meant you had to share and despite your offer of getting a hotel, he insisted. You two brushed your teeth together in silence and then fell asleep together, every single night. It was slightly maddening for him, and you, but neither of you spoke about it. It was all so… intimate. Quiet nights with him behind you in the mirror, listening to him go on about his day with his friends or family, nodding your head slowly as you drifted off, helping him with his skincare, or him helping you dry your hair. It was nice. It was very you.

Oscar woke up to the sound of sharp breaths and hiccuped sobs beside him, and he knew something was wrong. Immediately, he turned around to see you sat up in bed, your hand over your chest as you tried to calm down. 

“What’s wrong?” he asked, sitting up beside you. 

“I… I can’t breathe,” you choked out, tears streaming down your face. 

He felt his heart break for you. “It’s alright,” he whispered, he wrapped an arm around your waist and situated you in front of him before taking one of your hands and letting you squeeze it. “I want you to breathe with me, alright?” he guided, his voice as calm and smooth as it usually was. He took a deep breath and you tried to match it, hiccuping as you did so. He exhaled, you followed suit. 

Inhale. You squeezed his hand.  Exhale. You relaxed. Inhale. Squeeze. Exhale. Relax.  Inhale. Squeeze. Exhale. Relax.  Inhale. Squeeze. Exhale. Relax.  Inhale. Squeeze. Exhale. Relax.  Inhale. Squeeze. Exhale. Relax. Inhale. Squeeze. Exhale. Relax. 

Until you had your breathing back to a normal rhythm. 

You took another deep breath, leaning your head on his shoulder as you wiped your tears on his t-shirt. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. 

He shook his head, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you closer to him. “You have nothing to be sorry for,” he told you. “Nothing.”

“Okay,” your voice was smaller than usual, exhausted from the panic attack. 

“What happened?” he asked, his voice gentle and he smoothed a hand down your back. 

You were quiet for a moment. “I had a dream about the crash. I get them sometimes. It’s just… a lot.” 

The crash. Of course. He knew he should’ve insisted you see someone about the mental impacts of it. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your fault,” you shook your head. 

“I know, but I’m still sorry,” he smiled sadly. “I wish I could do more to help you.”

You took your head off his shoulder. “You do everything to help me,” you reminded him, a hand on his cheek. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.”

He shrugged. “I still wish I could do more.” 

Both of you just sat there for a moment, staring at each other with sad eyes. Neither of you could deny whatever was brewing between you two, especially not after tonight. The electricity between you two was ridiculous, and you genuinely couldn’t deal with your heart beating 30x faster than it should. Oscar was safe. Oscar wouldn’t hurt you. Oscar was… well, Oscar. Perfect, sweet, kind, gentlemanly, hilarious, talkative Oscar. He loved you like it was breathing. 

“Do you remember Abu Dhabi?” you whispered. 

“Me getting drunk and you having to take care of me?” he chuckled. “Yeah, I do.”

“Do you remember what you said to me?” you asked, your eyes transfixed on his. He looked at you confused. He could feel the weight of the moment, feel the atmosphere change. He just hoped it was for the better. 

He shook his head, his hands still soothing you, going up and down your back. 

“You said loving me was as easy as breathing,” you repeated the words for the first time, and though they felt strange and foreign on your lips, when they’d come out of his, they sounded beautiful. “Did you mean that?”

He was stunned by his drunk self, artistic and pathetic, impressive. He nodded gently. “Yes.”

“I don’t want you to hate me,” you whispered, your eyes drifting down towards his lips. “But I want to give this- us a try,” your voice shook, but you said it regardless. “Is that something you’d be interested in?”

He could’ve sworn he’d died and gone to heaven. Never in a million years did he ever think that he’d be sitting with you on his bed, with you telling him that you wanted him. His brain short-circuited, but his mouth had always worked faster than his brain anyway. 

He leaned down and pressed his lips to yours and everything that had been building for around a year exploded. 

He was all passion and love, you could feel it in the way he kissed you. He wasn’t doing this just to kiss you, no. He wanted this. He’d yearned for this. He’d waited for this moment, and he wasn’t letting it go, letting you go. Your hands on either side of his face were cautious and delicate at the beginning, but once he kissed you, your hands were suddenly in his hair, pulling. Adding the perfect pressure to the kiss. His hands held you in an almost bruising grip, digging into the back of your neck and your side. It was everything either of you had ever wanted. 

You broke apart, a smile on both your faces.

He smiled, answering your question. "I fucking love you."

You just kissed him again. You could do that anytime you wanted. He was yours.

And, the most important thing, you were finally letting yourself be open. You weren’t scared of him or how he’d react when he’d learn certain things about you. You had finally let yourself breathe. Let yourself love. 

What a fucking wonderful feeling.

I think something that's bothers me about how folks talk about mouthwashing is how they talk about Swansea. It's either "Swansea would have killed Jimmy immediately if Anya had told him" or "he knew and he did nothing just like curly." because, to me at least it leaves out a lot of nuance to his character and situation. Curly and Swansea are really good foils to each other, one who's got a reputation for being the kind and helpful captain but in the end does nothing to truly protect the crew from Jimmy, and one who's gruff, harsh, and cruel but genuinely tries to help in the background, the reliable mechanic.

Because Curly is the one with the power. He doesn't take what Jimmy did seriously enough. And you can say that he might not have known fully what Jimmy did, but I think the "I told you" pregnancy conversation and his reaction to Jimmy right before the crash ("come on we'll get through this together. We'll figure it out, you've had hard times before-") are indicators that he knew, but he still chose to stick by his friend and treat it like a "mistake" rather than what it really was.

Now that's my own personal speculation of course, there's no outright scene of her telling him "your best friend assaulted me", but I think there's enough evidence in game through Anya and Curlys interactions to say that he knew, and he knew before Anaya knew she was pregnant. He had a fully functioning ship and four fully functional cryo-pods. He could have at least given Anya more security, kept her far away from him, and at most forced him into the cryopod until they got back to earth. Jimmy STILL had full, uncontrolled access to the cockpit AFTER his freakout with curly. AFTER Anya tells curly she doesn't feel safe with him. AFTER Curly finds out he raped Anya. He's so focused on seeing the good in his friend that he does NOTHING to protect Anya, doesn't strip away not one of Jimmy powers as copilot and consequently endangers her and the rest of the crew.

Curly was the captain, he had the power to relegate Jimmy to the fucking storage closet if he really wanted, at least put him in the cryopod until they got back to earth. In fact, he was the only person above Jimmy in terms of rank on the ship, but he chose to do nothing. He chose to let Jimmy continue as acting co-pilot, chose to comfort him rather than actually confront him. Slides off his weird sexual comments as jokes "So what's this about horses?"

Now let's compare that to Swansea, the mechanic.

We don't have any evidence that Swansea knew about what Jimmy did until after the crash ("it's been her telling me things") where they were trapped with no captain, barely any rations, and a single cryopod that he kept hidden away in the one room he had the key too (and the only room that could lead into medbay). He didn't use it for himself, he makes it clear he didn't intend on getting off this hunk of metal in his last few conversations with Jimmy.

Swansea as the ship's mechanic, was used to fixing things in the background. He didn't need to get along with anyone to keep the ship running, he didn't need people to like him to keep them safe. We see that with Daisuke. He's harsh on him, for sure, but he leaves constant notes to help him learn. Genuinely tries to keep him out of harm's way when it comes to more dangerous jobs. We know Anya was scared of Jimmy getting a weapon, she hid the gun case in the medical bay even knowing she would never get it open. We can see Swansea and Anya off on their own towards the first days after the crash, and Swansea still has a tight grip of the axe weeks and months later.

I personally think that was him trying to keep Jimmy from having access to a weapon. The only time Jimmy gets the axe while Swansea is alive is when Anya Specifically asks him to use it to get medical supplies. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Swansea, like any good mechanic, was quietly trying to keep things running out of Jimmy's sight. It's not until everyone is dead or dying that he snaps, that he finally takes direct action. But it was too little too late.

Both Curly and Swansea thought they were doing the right thing, helping in their own way. Curly genuinely wanted to see the good in Jimmy, wanted it to just be some challenge they could overcome, but in doing so he failed to see the monster right in front of him. He had all the power (in context of the crew, the company is a whole other can of worms I have so many other thoughts on), but he was too afraid to use it. Hell, he was DISCOURAGED to use it if the memo about HR complaints are anything to go by. Swansea, on the other hand, never trusted Jimmy, never even really liked him, but he didn't want to make anything worse either. He didn't know what would actually set Jimmy off, or what he was capable of, and aside from just straight up killing him what else could he do that wouldn't just push Jimmy further off the edge? Like with the foam. "One wrong move and you'll rip this ship a new asshole", he worked carefully, hiding the last pod from Jimmy, keeping the only other weapon on himself, guarding the only other entrance into Medbay, but Jimmy was escalating quickly. He underestimated how far Jimmy was willing to go, just like Curly had, and in the end suffered the consequences.

The only character who actually understood how dangerous and unstable Jimmy was is Anya. She knew the moment she found out she was pregnant he would hurt her ("you won't let me protect myself"). He wouldn't be able to take it, he would do something drastic. She knew he was escalating the longer they were stranded. Anya is the only crew member who truly understood how dangerous Jimmy was and took direct action.

And interesting thing to me is that she doesn't just kill herself. She locks herself in the medbay. She could have waited for Jimmy to sleep, or locked herself in the cockpit, but she locked herself in the medbay with Curly. She knows that with her gone there would be no one left to take care of him, she knew Jimmy would continue to escalate his abuse, and with her gone all of his anger and fear and guilt would turn on Curly.

And wouldn't you know it? She was right. Without Anya to stop him, he takes curly out of the bed, forces him upright into the cryopod, and forces a man with no skin, no arms, no legs, and infected tissues to be frozen for 20 years while the rest of his crew Rot. And that's only what we know to be reality- if any of his delusions had some basis in reality he could have done so so much more. Anya is the Only one to take reasonable, direct action to keep herself, and then Curly, safe.

But she didn't have enough power over Jimmy to truly protect herself. She didn't have the code to the gun case, she didn't have a weapon or a rank to fall back on. She was outnumbered by men who she knew from experience either wouldn't or couldn't keep her safe, and she was heavily pregnant with a baby she didn't want and most likely couldn't even get enough nutrients to sustain either her or the fetus. She was physically weakened and trapped in a stranded ship with her abuser with no way home and a medical miracle (curse) in Curly.

This game is a really good reflection of reality, in my opinion as an abuse survivor. Some people will see them as "one of the boys" and constantly excuse or downplay their actions (Curly), some people will do small things in the background, recognize the abuse and disprove, but don't want to get in the way or make things worse (Swansea), and some people are just straight up oblivious/naive (Daisuke). But in the end, it's the system that allows abuse and incentives coverups to keep peace or save face that really allows abuse to fester and escalate.

Which is why I personally have a problem with the idea that Anya should have just Told A Different Man because it ignores the very real chain of power and her own agency in her story, AS WELL AS the idea that Swansea and Diasuke knew but didn't care because that's just not reflective of real life. Not every man is some rapist apologist who doesn't care what abusers do until it happens to them, some people just don't know what to do, or don't have any good options that wouldn't result in further abuse. Hell some people just don't even fucking notice! Not everyone has had exposure to the signs or knows what to look for.

It's easy when looking at fictional depictions of abuse to say "well if I was there I would have just punched him/killed him/called the police" but real life, in that moment, its never going to be clear cut. You can call out abuse, but that might just lead to that abuser taking it out on their abuse victim later. They could even start to target you for daring to speak out, or try to hurt you and cut you off from the person being abused. You can know all the right steps and the right programs, but in the moment, when faced with a real situation where someone could get hurt or even killed? You stumble. You think things over, you don't try and make any direct moves that would set their abusers off. Sometimes that's a good instinct, and sometimes that just lets abuse escalate. It's never a good situation, and it's never actually anyone's fault but the abusers. Then maybe Sams-mer!Eclipse be selling shrimp that day for whatever reason and R!Eclipse stops by the stall to buy shrimp for Sol and the baby mers he practically adopted because they both like shrimp. and maybe the two Eclipses literally pull a Same Hat meme when interacting or freakout one or the other idk. My brain just want's to know what would happen if the two found families met lol

Oh boy do i have some behind the scenes stuff to share with you my dear anon!

So just to start with, the tiny mers in the runaways au (Sun and Clip) arn't baby mers they are adults! They just happen to be a miniature variant of mer (think miniature ponies) and i have had plans for a long while now for the two au's to crossover and the respective Eclipses to meet :) And yes you hit the nail on the head with Runaways-Eclipse ending up there because it's a coastal town with cheap housing, both pretty essential requirements given the newest additions to the family and being able to actually afford a place to stay.

Plus R!Eclipse can make some cash from doing maintenance on the fishing boats in the area (he'd have to do a crash course in how boats work but he's a fast learner and has experience with mechanical stuff already)

As for how they meet, i've had the idea in my head for a long while now, and the two would meet while both are browsing the marketplace! MerAu!Eclipse would be on his day off and is simply there to buy some specific food for Ruin that he doesn't have at the house (like squid or octopus) and they would just so happen to spot one another in the crowd.

They would not immedietely go over to talk to each other though. Seeing another version/model of yourself in the wild, especially when you assumed you were the only one (or ones in R!Eclipse's case given he has Lunar) of your specific type left it would be pretty shocking. MerAu!Eclipse would not take it well, and he would avoid R!Eclipse like the plague.

I like to think R!Eclipse would be more willing to reach out but recognises that this other version of him - another Sun model? But something very off about him - is actively avoiding him so he respects that and keeps his distance for a bit. Eventually they would meet when MerAu!Eclipse is having boat trouble and R!Eclipse who would genuinely happen to be passing by would offer to help fix it for him, and this would open up the gates of communication between them finally, though MerAu!Eclipse would be very wary of the other. I do plan on writing a oneshot about their first proper meeting someday!

And as a bonus for how would the others react- Ruin would be quite surprised to see another robot who looks strikingly similar to his companion. He'd be pleasant should they meet, albeit on the side of caution of course, as he tends to be with strangers. He'd be fascinated by Sun and Clip who i think might be more than a little bit wary of a mer who is three times their size lol.

Sol would be pretty nervous around MerAu!Eclipse at first, despite him looking a lot like the one he knows. MerAu!Eclipse looks angry and rather scary, and that is enough to put the flower on edge. He'd like Ruin tho! Lunar would be a real nosy lil shet in regards to MerAu!Eclipse 'you look just like my twin!' however MerAu!Eclipse would be incredibly uncomfortable around Lunar. Something about being near a moon model just makes his code itch like he's forgetting something and he doesn't like it.

He's drafting his will and doing stress-induced squats in the corner, and Angeal has to physically hold him down while another SOLDIER assists him with paper bag breathing. The fact that it could only be Eddie crashing Buck's date for Buck to react the way he did is something to think about. If it had been literally any other person, Buck would've been fine. Maybe he wouldn't have said it was a date, but he wouldn't have been nervous, overcompensating and lying about it the way he was with Eddie.

His freakout and visit to Maddie after only happened because it was Eddie that saw him. Buck wasn't there to come out to his sister, he didn't care if she found out and, when she figured it out, he had no trouble discussing the matter. The Eddie part of it all, though, that had Buck worried, needing advice and going a bit crazy for some reason...
