also figured I’d send this as a separate ask but LOVE ur benchtrio skykid designs ^_^!!! I’m assuming cranboo is part krill? was that just a fun design thing or do u have like backstory or something for it? anyway yea would love to hear any headcanons/design choices/etc

OH YEAH THERE'S ABSOLITELY LIKE SOME "LORE" FOR RANBOO'S DESIGN!

Like yeah he's part krill! Ofc to like mimic the half enderman half sth else thing his dsmp character has, and while I don't have much story for this AU I got a "backstory" for ranboo.

Some ramble abt story/dynamic/designs under. Disclaimer this can very headcanon heavy as to how sky kids work in general lol

He USED to be a regular sky kid but due to something he gets partially corrupted by darkness, now if u know sky lore you'll be aware that all sky kids are called by the megabird to go to eden and die and reincarnate and repeat the cycle yknow. Well. Due to this "corruption" Ranboo loses his connection to the megabird. The only light he has is his flame. He can't gather winged lights. And his cape isn't made of light, it's regular fabric so he also can't really fly, only glide (like how capeless sky kids do yknow)

Not only that but because of the lost connection, if Ranboo were to lose all his light he'd just die. Legitimately. Because he can't go to Orbit to reincarnate. He's an odd case ^_^ also due to him being part krill I believe he can be a bit scary, i hc that sky kids can perceive each other through their flame, but Ranboo's is so weak he could basically go "under the radar". Once again adding to him being a bit scary.

Tubbo and Tommy are pretty much moths! Tubbo probably has more of an older player appearance but I believe they both landed on Isle at the same time (#twinsies) and they don't meet Ranboo until several reincarnations later i guess. Tommy is very put off by him but Tubbo finds him interesting and isn't as scared.

And they all become #besties later on, Tubbo and Tommy go to eden every now and then and Ranboo will always wait for them in the Valley-Wasteland limit. So uh yeah thats abt it ^_^

Also some design choice details/inspo:

Ranboo's cape is a bit inspired by the Cackling Cannoneer one (design isn't 100% settled but i imagined that one side could be white/red with more feathery details while the other is black/green with spikier details + some tattering), his mask looks like Twirling Champion although the under eye markings are green/red. The breaking of said mask is also inspired by cackling cannoneer's.

I got no real inspiration for Ranboo's pants but tbh it's very hard to try figure out some pants that give Ranboo vibes that would also fit for the Sky World

Tubbo's mask is heavily inspired by Gratitude Deer Mask and should have some similar color palette as that one. His cape is obvs tier 1 or tier 2 green and he wears the Ushering Stargazer pants

Tommy wears a default mask (just add a lil bandaid for the cTommy vibe), polite scholar pants, and basic red cape.

Anddd that's abt it tbh oh yeah stances/calls I like to think Ranboo uses autism stance (tinkering chimesmith) and i dont know if he has a call at all bc calls are kind of tied to sky kids having a flame; he either sounds like an extinguished sky kid or something similar to crab call but less noisy. Tubbo uses Proud stance OR the default stance his preferred call would probably be the fish call. Tommy is either a bird call or a crab call and he uses corageous stance. So yeah that's about it ^_^

an au where dante saves vergil from falling into hell but falls into hell himself

dante manages to catch vergil & pulls him up but dante slips & falls into hell. vergil's left alone. he manages to find dante's office & after considering it, stays there. rebellion is lost, so is yamato. vergil's left with ebony and ivory and the sparda

lady doesn't see vergil cry, so she still thinks of demons pretty badly. lady attaches herself to vergil as partners to 1) keep an eye on him & 2) annoy him. vergil can't make her leave because lady's the one who answers the phone & brings the missions.

vergil wouldn't like trish At All, he tries to kill her erry chance he gets, even the first time he sees her. trish's only saved by her mentioning dante.

when vergil's close to killing trish, bianco diavolo blocks yamato. vergil defeats bianco diavolo but trish has already escaped

DANTE AS BIANCO DIAVOLO!!!!! bianco diavolo has long upwards-facing graceful horns & is capeless. unmasked bianco diavolo having long hair!!!

vergil woudn't save trish & he Definitely wouldn't take her with him. fortunately, bianco diavolo saves trish & in his last moments, bianco diavolo leads trish to the biplane, karnival, imbues it with his remaining energy & tells her to escape.

rebellion tells vergil to back the Fuck up. the sparda too. vergil's shocked & asks it what's happening, rebellion answers that it chose nero, vergil demands rebellion to rescind its choice, rebellion asks vergil if he's ordering it around? the person that led its wielder astray?

Capeless AU: No superheroes, no villains. Damian goes to school and his class organized a stage play. Dick is an amazing big brother and leaves work to see Damian acting.

summary: “Excuse me.” Dick said with a charming smile as he made his way through the row to get to his assigned seat. It had surprised him that when he had mentioned his last name, he had been informed that Damian had actually reserved a single seat for a member of the Wayne family. At that time Dick had masked his pain fairly well but it had hurt him to think about his brother secretly hoping that against all odds Bruce would appear to his play. No matter how tough Damian usually acted, in the end he was still a child looking for approval.

He hadn’t planned to take a day off and judging by his co-worker’s voice, she hadn’t been that happy about it either. But Dick couldn’t have gone to work as if he hadn’t known anything. No, he couldn’t even care less about work when it was an important day.

Two days ago Dick had accidentally listened in on a short conversation between Alfred and Damian. It hadn’t been like he had wanted to do it, it just so happened to align. The man had leaned against the wall as the two had talked.

“I apologize, Master Damian, but Master Bruce won’t make it. His business trip is going to take longer than expected.”

A click of a tongue. “I see, Pennyworth. It does not matter anyway. I would not have expected for Father to appear to such a boring performance. It is but a simple play performed by my incompetent class. Nothing special.”

The police officer made himself comfortable in the reserved seat and watched as the hall was slowly filled with parents, siblings, and friends, all who had come to watch their loved ones performing. Dick had no idea what the play was about or whether Damian was even playing a big role but as long as it mattered to his little brother, the man would make sure to be there for him.

Half an hour had passed until the lights were finally dimmed and a narrator began to talk about an imaginary world full of superheroes and villains. The curtain was pulled up and revealed several children in costumes, fighting with wooden swords and other items. The voice continued to explain the story, talked about a single human who had managed to make their way into the highest ranks of the heroes without any superpowers. A living legend whose mission it was to save the earth once again from the forces of evil. And as the spotlight fell onto a child climbing onto a ladder disguised as mountain, Dick’s breath hitched.

Damian was standing above everyone else, hands proudly placed on his hips as a yellow cape lightly moved in the breeze of the ‘fights’ below. Green paint had been used to create a mask and his outfit was a mix of red and green. The confidence his brother radiated was felt by the whole hall and Dick immediately knew that Damian was living up to the role of the protagonist and hero.

His hand automatically moved to his chest and the man felt a wave of pride and affection threatening to burst as he watched his little bat performing. Damian’s voice was as strong as his appearance, only strengthened by his body language and every side character got lost in his shadow as he outplayed each and every one. Dick was mesmerized by his brother’s acting skills and couldn’t help but lean over towards the woman sitting next to him.

“That boy there? The protagonist? That’s my brother.”

His smile only grew with each second and Dick pulled his phone out to record the play as best as he could. Jason and Tim would be forced to watch it later on, whether they wanted to or not. Damian had been meant for that role and it was an honor to watch him acting.

Roughly at the middle of the play, the stage had turned dark as a single spotlight lingered on Damian and the ‘corpse’ of his comrade cradled in his arms. The way the boy’s voice wavered, so full with emotions and sorrow - it almost felt real. And as green eyes were finally lifted to look directly into the audience, there was a moment where their gazes met. The widening didn’t go unnoticed and Dick smiled reassuringly as Damian quickly shook it off to continue his performance.

As the play came to an end, the actors grouped up to welcome the cheers and applause of the audience. It was Dick who jumped up from his seat first to whistle loudly, a huge grin on his face as his eyes met Damian’s once again. Other parents stood up as well and the man watched as the children bowed down a few times. Minutes passed and the hall was slowly emptied, family members rushing outside to greet their children and compliment them on their work.

Dick took his time and sauntered around in the hall, didn’t want to compete with others to be the first one outside. Instead he simply leaned against the stage and smiled to himself as he went through the photos he had taken.

He was torn out of his thoughts as a way too close voice clicked its tongue and looking to his side, Dick saw his little brother standing in his normal clothes next to him. Damian seemed to try his best to look indifferent but he couldn’t fool the older Wayne. Dick had seen the small hint of a smile.

“Richard, I must say I am quite surprised to see you here. I cannot remember informing you abo-”

The man was already on his knees and pulled Damian into a tight hug, efficiently stopping him from continuing his sentence. Arms were gently wrapped around his brother’s neck and Dick pulled him close, a hand running through short black hair.

“You were incredible up there, Dami. I didn’t know you were this great in acting… I’m proud, Damian. So so proud.”

He heard his brother’s breath hitching before short arms hesitantly returned the embrace. It only caused Dick to pull him even closer, refusing to let him go. His chest was filled with pride and the older one would make sure to shower Damian in his affection.

“Come on, Damian. How about we make a stop at the arcade before going home?”

The boy nodded slightly and with a smile Dick leaned back far enough to look at his little brother. There was still some paint on the other’s face and he carefully wiped it away before standing up.

“Let’s go. Just know I won’t go easy on you this time. I’m the true cheese viking.”

It only earned him an amused click of a tongue.

“You wish, Richard.”

And as they made their way through the school building towards the parking lot, Dick couldn’t help but glance down at his little brother in pride.

Prologue

Jason knew that he was losing the battle real quick. To be called 'dense' and 'simple' had hurt him more than if he was to be referred to as a loser - like the kids would. But the teachers calling him 'learning disabled' and 'dense' and using his inability to solve a problem as an example of how not to exist hurt him to the point where he wanted to either cry or throw tables at them.

If not for a tinny, haughty voice calling out from the back of the class. "I don't believe you, Ms. Carter."

Ms. Carter and Mr Walker both turned toward the source of the voice. "And what exactly do you not believe, Mr Drake?" Ms Carter said.

"First of all, this is the 21st century. There have been numerous studies that showed that 'learning disability' is subjective - as in specific to subject matters. Even children who are actually dyslexic are more likely to be found as not dense or simple like you said. What is there is the brain's inability to process unfamiliar input.

"You put the problem wrongly, in a blatant attempt to confuse Todd. I sincerely doubt that 90% of this class would be able to solve that, either." the voice, coming from a black-haired, blue-eyed kid that Jason had heard his friends called 'Tim', continued unabashedly.

"Oh, yes, Mr Drake, I know you're a genius and did not think your time here is worth your while. How about you come up here and explain where did I do wrong?" Ms Carter was relentless. She was not used to be challenged. And Jason presumed that this Tim kid might have decided to make it a sport to challenge Ms Carter on daily basis.

But then again, this was only his second time in this class. AP Math. What a joke. He probably didn't have the brain to pass Remedial Math if he'd tried his damnedest, anyway. He hated numbers. They simply don't make sense to him.

Tim sighed. "Fine, if I have to do your job for you..." he said and got up. He picked up a blue marker and started to make dots and letters on the white board. "How well do you read?" he suddenly asked Jason.

"What?" Jason shot back, startled.

"How well do you read?" he repeated.

"I can read just fine." Jason huffed.

"Truthfully. I'm not gonna laugh if you need to spell out words or if letters are backwards to you." he looked so sincere. But Jason didn't have any problem with reading.

"I can read just fine." he repeated.

"Alright, now solve this."

Jason blinked and turned to look at the board. Instead of the convoluted arithmetic formula containing four numbers each that Ms Carter had written, there were dots, dashes, and stars in place of the numbers. And Jason suddenly got it. He picked the red marker and worked on the arithmetic problem, counting the dots and dashes as he went, hesitating only at the last line. The final line. But Tim's smug and proud smile that he'd seen from the corner of his eyes made him decide to bite the bullet, and just wrote the number instead of the dots and dashes and stars.

Jason wanted to screw his eyes shut as he stepped back from the board. "There, he got it. Some people has dyslexia - which is problems with letters, others have Dyscalculia - problems with numbers. It might be worthwhile for the likes of you to subscribe to medical journals and keep an open mind." Tim said. Then he turned to Jason. "Next time you see a problem like this, I'd suggest you do it exactly like this: put simple symbols or letters in the place of the numbers. Your solution is right, by the way."

Jason beamed at Ms Carter and Mr Walker. "I'm not dense, evidently."

"No, you're not. You're just a more visually inclined learner." Tim said, ignoring the adults. "Don't ever let anyone, kids or adults, imply that your brain is not working. It's simply a statistical impossibility. If you can use a pen to write your name, there is no way you cannot accept and process other information."

Big words. But Jason understood the gist of it. He's not stupid, and he shouldn't let others think he was.

People exaggeratedly turn Jack Drake(/& Janet Drake) into an irredeemable POS to prop up Bruce as a father, to make some kind of point that becoming Robin was supposedly as needed for Tim’s sake as Bruce’s, and as reasoning/justification for why/how Tim would/should still end up with Bruce and the rest of them in AUs where events are different, like capeless AUs or worlds where Jason never dies, etc. As well as to give Tim a more angsty backstory, bc ig he doesn’t have enough trauma? Idk! But there’s a reason you’ll rarely find a fic tagged “Bad Parent Jack Drake” that isn’t also tagged “Good Parent Bruce Wayne”

This phenomena specifically

"becoming Robin was supposedly as needed for Tim’s sake as Bruce’s"

as a reason for making Jack into irredeemable is really interesting to me because you're actively flattening the narrative that was there. There's not really a point to doing this either. The thing about Tim that makes him stand out among the other Robins is that he needed to balance his life as Robin with his life as Tim Drake. Stephanie played into that trope a bit more in her Batgirl book when she was allowed to exist as a more than one dimensional human being. But Tim being Robin was never about bettering Tim and that's pretty consistent across his run and his desires not to become batman as an adult. The "I'll do my shift and then get out" mentality he had about him.

If you want to write about Bruce being a good dad, you can slander Jack, I don't care about him, or Tim really for that matter either (i'm sorry i read his comics and they just were not really for me, unless Dick or Steph was on panel in which case I was invested). But I feel like it definitely makes Tim's struggles and stories less interesting and more black and white, but that seems to be a wider thing in this fandom of making everything oversimplified instead of leaning into the complicated character relationships 🤷‍♀️

Capeless AU ~~~~ When Bruce adopted Jason, he was very sick with a very weak immune system and being bedridden the majority of the time. Bruce would always wake in the night to check to see if he was still breathing correctly. Jason would often ignore his doctor’s and Bruce’s constant nagging about his health and wound usually end up back in critical condition whenever he went outside. Being sick was something he had been used to even before Bruce caught him. There was a point when his condition became serious to the point where he “died” on the operation table but was successfully resuscitated. Jason gets better as he gets older so long as he managed his medication and jokes about that time in the hospital much to Bruce’s constant worry.

omg jason makes sooooo many jokes about his 'death' and it just stresses bruce out every time. dick thinks it's funny, because he's aware jason only brings it up for jokes/to lighten the mood (ironically.)

but then jason himself worries about all is siblings when they so much as catch a cold sometimes, and now it's bruce who's finding amusement in it. doesn't care about his own illness ever, but drops everything to help those siblings he pretends not to love so much~

OKaaaay this is one of the exceptions, Bruce is Batman but it’s a different century and Clark is powerless, I think it compensates. Usually I prefer when they’re both “capeless” but this was such a fun read.

A story about grief and acceptance.

So I want to point out how good this fic is. I hate sad and this story has a lot of grief and I felt it was very grounded on its depictions of feelings. I tend to avoid this type of fics buuuuut this was so good. I couldn’t stop reading even if the grief got to me. It’s very wholesome and does have a satisfying ending.

Absolutely love Professor Trope!!! Sooo you could argue this is ficlet but doesn't feel like one to me so I’m not putting it in the ficlet section.

This felt very AU and sorta? fit the category, so I decided to add it anyways but it’s worth to mention this is an outlier on this list.
