• In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver, who had visited with the Naudowessie (Dakota), wrote that the name used for this period was the Snow Moon, “because more snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter.”

Imbolc is a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of spring. Most commonly it is held on January 31 – February 1, or halfway between the winter solstice & the spring equinox. The holiday is a festival of the hearth, home, a celebration of the lengthening days & the early signs of spring.
•  It is suggested that Imbolc originally marked the onset of the arrival of fresh sheep milk after a period of food shortage & the beginning of preparations for the spring sowing.
The word “imbolc” means “in the belly” and refers to the pregnancy of ewes at this time of year. The term “oimelc” means ewe’s milk. Around this time of year, many herd animals give birth to their first offspring of the year or are heavily pregnant & as a result, they are producing milk.
Imbolc is mentioned in some of the earliest Irish literature and it is associated with important events in Irish mythology. It is believed that Imbolc was originally a pagan festival associated with the lambing season and the goddess Brigid. It's believed that Imbolc was Christianized as a festival of Saint Brigid, who herself is thought to also be a Christianization of the goddess.
• Joseph Vendryes and Christian-Joseph Guyonvarc'h suggested that it may have also been a purification festival, similar to the ancient Roman festival Lupercalia which took place at the same time of year.
Some scholars argue that the date of Imbolc was significant in Ireland since the Neolithic. A few passage tombs in Ireland are aligned with the sunrise around the times of Imbolc & Samhain.
Related festivals:
•Groundhog Day: February 2nd-
Is a tradition observed in the United States & Canada every year. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day & sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den & winter will go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.
• While the tradition remains popular in the 21st century, studies have found no consistent association between a groundhog seeing its shadow & the subsequent arrival time of spring-like weather.
•St. Brigid’s Day: February 1st-
Celebrates the beginning of spring and the celebration of Lá Fhéile Bríde, St Brigid’s Day. The day has long symbolised hope, renewal and the feminine.
•Because Saint Brigid has been theorised as linked to the goddess Brigid, some associate the festival of Imbolc with the goddess.
St. Brigid is the patroness saint (or ‘mother saint’) of Ireland. She is patroness of many things, including poetry, learning, healing, protection, blacksmithing, livestock & dairy production. In her honour, a perpetual fire was kept burning at Kildare for centuries & a recent campaign successfully established her feast day as a national holiday in 2023.
The customs of St Brigid's Day did not begin to be recorded in detail until the early modern era. In recent centuries, its traditions have included weaving Brigid's crosses, hung over doors and windows to protect against fire, illness, and evil spirits. People also made a doll of Brigid (a Brídeóg), which was paraded around the community by girls, sometimes accompanied by 'strawboys'. Brigid was said to visit one's home on St Brigid's Eve. To receive her blessings, people would make a bed for Brigid, leave her food and drink, and set items of clothing outside for her to bless. Holy wells would be visited, a special meal would be had, and the day was traditionally linked with weather lore.
•  Candlemas: February 2nd-
Is a Christian feast day on February 2nd commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. It is based upon the account of the presentation of Jesus in Luke 2:22-40.
•While it is customary for Christians in some countries to remove their Christmas decorations on Twelfth Night, those in other Christian countries historically remove them after Candlemas.
On Candlemas, many Christians also take their candles to their local church, where they are blessed and then used for the rest of the year. For Christians, these blessed candles serve as a symbol of Jesus Christ, who is referred to as the Light of the World.
•Setsubun: February 2nd-
Is the day before the beginning of spring in the old calendar in Japan. The name literally means 'seasonal division’, referring to the day just before the first day of spring.
Both Setsubun & Risshun are celebrated yearly as part of the Spring Festival (Haru matsuri ) in Japan. In its association with the Lunar New Year, Setsubun, though not the official New Year, was thought of as similar in its ritual & cultural associations of 'cleansing’ the previous year as the beginning of the new season of spring. Setsubun was accompanied by a number of rituals & traditions held at various levels to drive away the previous year’s bad fortunes & evil spirits for the year to come.
• The commonly practiced tradition of throwing of roasted soybeans (called "fukumame") in order to drive away evil spirits & bring good fortune into one's home is upheld by both places of worship & regular people. Then, as part of bringing luck in, it is customary to eat roasted soybeans, one for each year of one's life (kazoedoshi), plus one more for bringing good luck for the year.
Other celebrations:
• Lupercalia: February 13-15th-
In ancient Rome, this festival was conducted annually on February 13th through 15th under the superintendence of a corporation of priests called Luperci. The origins of the festival are obscure, although the likely derivation of its name from lupus (Latin: “wolf”) has variously suggested connection with an ancient deity who protected herds from wolves & with the legendary she-wolf who nursed Romulus & Remus. As a fertility rite, the festival is also associated with the god Faunus to purify the city, promoting health & fertility.
Each Lupercalia began with the sacrifice by the Luperci of goats & a dog, after which two of the Luperci were led to the altar, their foreheads were touched with a bloody knife & the blood was wiped off with wool dipped in milk; the ritual required that the two young men laugh. The sacrificial feast followed, after which the Luperci cut thongs from the skins of the sacrificial animals & ran in two bands around the Palatine hill, striking with the thongs at any woman who came near them. A blow from the thong was supposed to render a woman fertile.
In 494 CE the Christian church under Pope Gelasius I forbade participation in the festival. Tradition holds that he appropriated the form of the rite as the Feast of the Purification (Candlemas), celebrated on February 2, but it is likely that the Christian feast was established in the previous century. It has also been alternately suggested that Pope Gelasius I replaced Lupercalia with St. Valentine’s Day, celebrated on February 14th, but the origin of that holiday was likely much later.

This guide was written with Moon phases and dates corresponding to North America. These guides are supposed to be a generalized stepping off point to do your own research & help celebrate the way you feel called to.
•THIS IS CONDENSED INFORMATION AND SPECIFICS MAY NOT BE MENTIONED
This isn't based off what I do personally & I'm by no way suggesting people celebrate a certain way. It's stuff I've read & put together from books so people of different traditions & practices can get an idea of what to do for the sabbat, months or research for themselves.
Note that for Native American names, each Moon name was traditionally applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred, the month starting either with the new Moon or full Moon. Also the name of the lunar month might vary each year or between bands or other groups within the same nation.
Some names listed here may reflect usage at once in history but may no longer be used by a designated group today. Many of the names listed here are English interpretations of the words used in Native American languages. They are only roughly aligned here with the months of the Gregorian calendar; you’ll notice that some names are repeated in multiple months.
The ones listed are the ones that were used in the books I used for correspondences & there are many more that are not mentioned.

black salt
black salt is used for cursing, protection, banishing, cleansing, breaking spells or hexes, and repelling negative energy. black salt is made by combining either activated charcoal or ashes from burned herbs or incense with sea salt.
using activated charcoal will actually make your salt a dark black color, whereas using ashes will turn it into a lighter grey color.
depending on what you plan to use black salt for, you can add different types of ash or other ingredients that correspond with your intent.
here's my disclaimer to tell you to use basic common sense and safety when dealing with plant matter that you aren't familiar with, don't burn toxic herbs to get ashes, and don't throw salt on your grass.
ashes from various herbs and incenses for black salt:
basil - banishing, protection, spell-breaking
cedarwood - cleansing, protection
cypress - protection
dragon’s blood - cleansing, protection, cursing, banishing
frankincense - cleansing, protection, spell-breaking
mullein - protection (especially for acts of magic involving spirit work)
rosemary - cleansing, banishing
rue - banishing, cursing, protection, spell-breaking
sage - cleansing, protection, banishing
sandalwood - cleansing, protection
thyme - cleansing, banishing
tobacco - banishing, cursing
valerian - protection
wormwood - cursing, protection, spell-breaking
other ingredients you can add to black salt:
black pepper - cleansing, banishing, cursing, protection
cayenne pepper - banishing, cursing, protection

garlic salt - banishing, cleansing, spell-breaking
iron shavings (like from the bottom of your cauldron or a cast-iron pot or pan) - protection
nutmeg - protection, spell-breaking
onion salt - banishing, spell-breaking
making black salt:
combine the ingredients and grind together using a mortar and pestle, coffee grinder, or herb grinder
store in a glass jar or vial for later use
using black salt:
add to spell jars or sachets
sprinkle in areas around your home to create a barrier
create a circle of protection before performing spells
keep a container of black salt under your bed or pillow to prevent nightmares or bad dreams
add to a jar to create a negativity trap
if using skin-safe components and ingredients, make a facial scrub or mask for cleansing
anoint objects with black salt
add to a container of war water (especially if your black salt contains iron shavings)
sprinkle a small amount on a neighbor’s lawn to make them want to move
add some to a hollow pendant and wear to deflect negativity
sprinkle on items that hold bad or negative memories to cleanse them
add a thin line of black salt in front of doorways and windows to keep out negative energy and spirits or entities
add a pinch to homemade floor washes for cleansing

You don't understand how. He doesn't understand how.
SO PLEASE MAKE MY DREAM COME TRUE LOVELY LOVELY AUTHOR WRITER I LOVE YOUR WORKS SO SLAY AYYSHAHSNAAMS
Delinquent Deuce x reader
hi! thanks for the request <3 i hope you like it!
Tumblr media
You were the new kid in the area, and everyone knew that Deuce Spade was the undisputed Top Dog of delinquency. He had the reputation, the glare, the hair. But you? You weren't here to play nice either. As soon as you stepped foot on campus, you decided: That guy needs to be taken down. You had one goal, and one goal only—to dethrone Deuce and become the new Top Dog.
It started with your first challenge, in the courtyard.
“Yo, Deuce!” You yelled across the field, cracking your knuckles dramatically. “I’m taking you down! The title of Top Dog is mine!”
Deuce, confused but intrigued, narrowed his eyes. “You think you’ve got what it takes? Bring it!”
And so, it began—your first epic brawl. It was a battle of wits, strength, and the occasional trash can lid (which neither of you knew how to use properly, but it looked cool). Punches were thrown, insults exchanged, and by the time it was over, both of you lay on the ground, staring up at the sky, absolutely exhausted.
It was a tie.
“I’ll get you next time, Spade,” you wheezed, chest heaving.
Deuce just grinned, wiping sweat from his brow. “Not if I get you first.”
Tumblr media
The second fight was supposed to be different. You’d been training in secret—running laps, lifting random heavy objects around campus (okay, maybe you were just lugging around Grim a lot, but it counted). You were sure this time you’d win. So, you marched up to Deuce again, squaring your shoulders.
“Rematch, Spade. Today, I’m taking you down for sure.”
Deuce shrugged like this was just another Tuesday. “Fine by me.”
This time, the battle took place behind the school, with more people watching. It was intense, full of grappling, dodging, and a dramatic slow-motion punch that missed by about a mile but still made the crowd gasp. After what felt like hours (but was probably 15 minutes tops), you both collapsed again.
Another tie.
Deuce groaned, clutching his side. “You… you’re tough.”
You grinned through the pain. “Don’t… forget it.”
But as you looked at him, sweating and panting and somehow still looking cool despite being a mess, you couldn’t help but think, Damn, he’s kinda… cute when he’s serious. You quickly shook off the thought. No. Focus. He’s the enemy. The enemy is cute. Wait—no, stop it!
Tumblr media
The third fight happened at the cafeteria. This time, it was less about fists and more about a spaghetti-eating contest that devolved into chaos. You both glared at each other over a mountain of food, determined to out-eat the other.
“Loser has to admit the other is Top Dog,” you said, slurping up noodles aggressively.
Deuce nodded, shoveling pasta like a man possessed. “Deal.”
The problem was, you were both terrible at eating quickly. After 30 minutes, you both tapped out, groaning in pain, neither one able to claim victory. Another tie.
Deuce, his face smeared with sauce, gave a pained grin. “Guess it’s a tie again.”
You, equally sauce-covered, muttered, “You… you’re too stubborn.”
He wiped his mouth and chuckled. “So are you.”
You tried not to think about how good that laugh sounded. He’s not attractive. Stop. This is about winning, not—oh no, I’m starting to fall for him, aren’t I? You shoved another piece of garlic bread into your mouth to drown out the thoughts.
Tumblr media
The fourth time? Well, that was a foot race. You challenged him at the sports field, hoping speed would finally be the way to break the tie streak.
“First one to the tree over there wins the title,” you declared, determined.
Deuce cracked his neck, stretching. “You’re on.”
The race was neck and neck. Both of you sprinting full force, the wind whipping past your faces, determination in your eyes—and then you both tripped at the same time, crashing into each other right at the finish line.
Another. Stupid. Tie.
You sat up, groaning in frustration. “WHY does this keep happening?!”
Deuce laughed, scratching the back of his head. “Maybe we’re just… too evenly matched?”
But you were barely listening because, at that moment, the sun hit his face just right, and suddenly, you were hit by the realization that Deuce wasn’t just strong and stubborn—he was actually kinda... cute. “Oh no…” you muttered under your breath. This isn’t supposed to happen!
Tumblr media
By the fifth fight, you had no idea what you were doing anymore. You kept challenging him because, at this point, it was tradition. And somewhere along the way, the desire to win had slowly morphed into something else entirely.
You squared up to him again, fists ready. “One more time, Spade. This is it. No more ties.”
Deuce smiled, but there was something softer in it now. “Alright. But you’ve gotta admit… we make a good team.”
Your heart skipped a beat. What the heck was that supposed to mean?! Were you blushing? No. Impossible. You were a delinquent! A tough, unyielding, totally-not-falling-for-him delinquent.
“Y-Yeah, whatever,” you grumbled. “Let’s just fight.”
And, as fate would have it, you tied again.
Tumblr media
After the fifth tie, the two of you sat on the ground, both catching your breath. You looked over at Deuce, trying to figure out when your challenges had stopped being about winning and started being about just spending time with him. Ugh, feelings! Gross!
Deuce, ever the dense one, blinked over at you. “You keep challenging me… why?”
You hesitated for a second, heart racing, before blurting out the dumbest thing possible. “Because you’re strong!”
He raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. “That’s it?”
“Y-Yeah! Totally! I mean, you’re also kind of… cool? And, uh…” You bit your lip, realizing how stupid this was starting to sound.
Deuce stared at you, his face gradually turning red as he processed what you were saying. “Wait… Do you like me?”
You froze. Oh no. You’d been caught. Your brain screamed, Run! but instead, you just blurted out, “Yes! No! I don’t know! Maybe!?”
He blinked, as if trying to figure out if this was real. “So… we’re dating now?”
You blinked back. “Uh… yeah? I guess?”
Deuce scratched his head, looking just as confused as you were. “How did that happen?”
You shrugged, throwing your hands up. “I have no idea! I was just trying to beat you, and now I guess we’re… a thing?!”
Deuce nodded slowly, still processing. “Alright then. But if we’re dating… I guess that makes us both Top Dog?”
You groaned, hiding your face in your hands. “Oh my god, that’s the lamest thing I’ve ever heard.”
But despite yourself, you were grinning like an idiot.

Green Vanille by Régime des Fleurs
I am awfully sorry for the length of this review. I wish it were shorter. I wish it were possible for me to remove even one single word from this lengthy missive, but I fear that doing so would undermine its candor. I hope, despite its seemingly long-winded nature, you are able to glean some insightful information from it that may leave you better-informed than you were beforehand.
A few months ago, I took a trip to the coast where I indulged in some much needed solitude and relaxation. This year, like all years, has been a difficult one for me. That is not to say that it has been unpleasant without exception. There have been many moments of elation and true joy, but as a whole, things have been quite punishing for me. In an attempt to remove myself from the horrors of my common existence, I planned this short trip so that I could bathe myself in the restorative ocean air and, if luck happened to smile upon me, have myself a nice seagull dinner.
Many people look down on the lesser fowl such as seagulls and crows and mice as they think that they are filthy animals without much flavor or nutritional density. I will say that their assumption about these beasts’ cleanliness is indeed correct. I speak from experience when I say that seagulls are terrifically dirty and smelly, but that should not, and does not, stop me from making a meal of them when I can. They are made of meat, after all.
In the township I visited, there is no season for hunting seagulls as they are seen as a nuisance and the local municipality encourages people to dispose of them by any means necessary. For a time, they were even offering rewards to those who were willing and able to present evidence of any gulls that they snuffed out of existence. This was not something in which I ever participated as I do not enjoy taking the life of an animal just to do so. I am not afraid to humanely close the eyes of a seagull in a permanent way if I plan to dine on its stringy flesh, but hunting for sport is not something which has ever interested me.
Catching and assassinating a seagull is no small task. Yes, there are old-timers who have spent decades perfecting their techniques, and they may make it look simple, but I can assure you, it is tricky business. I do not say this as an attempt to dissuade you from trying your hand at the time-honored tradition of seagull hunting. On the contrary, I only hope to inform you that it takes patience, cunning, wisdom, skill, and courage if you hope to catch yourself one of these winged devils.
I don’t believe that this is the appropriate time or place to provide a thorough manual for how best to catch, dispatch, clean, and cook a seagull. Instead, I will simply say that I, after a good deal of trouble, was able to catch two of them during my trip to the sea. Unfortunately, the first outsmarted me and was able to escape with not only its life, but my pocketbook as well. The second feathered fiend was not so lucky, so into the stockpot it went along with plenty of seawater, onions, garlic, carrots, kelp, potatoes, and a myriad of spices which I purchased from a local spice vendor at no small expense. I boiled the bird on a lonely stretch of beach as the sun was setting and revelled in the delectable, aromatic plumes that billowed from the simmering cauldron.
Just as the soup was about ready to eat, a horrible blast of wind issued forth from the briny sea. The squall was so intense that it toppled the bubbling soup pot. As I was close at hand, mindfully tending to it, I quickly found my lower half saturated in the scalding, fragrant liquid. I believe the following goes without saying, but I shall say it anyway. The extremely hot soup burned my loins very badly. The pain was immense and indescribable. My flesh sizzled and puckered as I did my best to remove my soaked trousers as I ran toward the sea. I meant to dive in. I hoped that the cool water would extinguish my intolerable groin pain.
I don’t recall much of what happened immediately after, but it is my understanding that I never made it into the ocean. I must have tripped over a bit of driftwood or a tangle of kelp as I was running toward the waves for I found the following day, unconscious, facedown in the sand, with my trousers knotted around my ankles. The woman who found me was kind enough to phone for a medic. After they arrived, they were eventually able to rouse me from my pain-induced slumber and load me into their vehicle. They then ferried me to a local hospital where I was briefly and incorrectly pronounced dead by a doctor who has since had his license revoked and shredded. I can assure you that I am not now, nor have I ever been, dead.
As I convalesced in this unfamiliar seaport town, I spent much of my time gazing out a small, unwashed window next to my bed. It was a trying time for me, but I would be lying if I said that it was entirely unpleasant. I became friendly with one of the cleaning staff at the hospital and he took the time to teach me to play a card game that he called “squat.” I never completely understood the rules and it seemed as though they sometimes changed with his mood, but it was nice to spend an hour or two each week with another person.
He was a short, rotund man of indeterminate age and he told me that his name was Pferdeschwanz. He always had a sly look in his eye and a sweet, powerful odor about him. On the day before I was to be released from the hospital, I asked Pferdeschwanz what fragrance he wore. At first, he refused to tell me. After much begging and an exchange of thirty dollars, he told me that the potent scent in which he was constantly enrobed was none other than Green Vanille by Régime des Fleurs.
It is a scent that, when sniffed, will always remind me of the cantankerous little man with whom I shared a few precious hours while I was locked away in that seaside sanatorium. I will never forget Pferdeschwanz and I pray that he shan’t forget me.

Second Chances
Pairing: Cassian x Reader
Masterlist
A/N: This is part 2 of Second Choices! Part 3 will be a shamelessly smutty epilogue so click here to be added to the taglist to be notified when that's live!
Warnings: Drinking, little bit of angst/alludes to a history of abuse
Rhysand returned from Windhaven just in time for dinner, rested and refreshed after a long weekend holed up in his mother’s cottage with the male he’d been casually seeing for the past few months. In addition to being pretty, Austris had a wicked tongue that kept Rhys thoroughly distracted.
It was three days of pure bliss; of forgetting about his duties and giving into every whim and desire that struck him without thought. While he dreaded returning to work and his responsibilities, the thought of spending the evening catching up with his family put a little bounce in his step as he landed outside the House of Wind.
The outdoor dining table was set, silver trays piled high with juicy, slow-cooked meats, a rainbow of roasted vegetables, and potatoes whose garlic-and-rosemary glaze wafted in the early evening breeze. Fae lights floated above, illuminating the feast in a soft glow. Behind it all, he saw his family sprawled out on the lounge chairs. Judging by the scattered bottles littering the ground around them, he had lots of catching up to do.
He took one step and then Mor jumped up, waving her wine glass towards him.
“Rhys is back!” She exclaimed, nearly tripping over her own feet as she rushed towards him. “Time to eat!” Her voice was suspiciously loud, though he supposed that happened when one drank too much on an empty stomach.
He chuckled and accepted the one-armed hug she offered.
“Good to see you too, cousin,” he said, guiding her towards the table. “You must be really hungry.”
Amren stalked past, face pinched in a scowl.
“You have no idea,” she grumbled as she plopped down in a chair. She reached for an unopened bottle of red wine and uncorked it with her teeth, filling her goblet to the brim.
Rhys’ eyebrows skyrocketed towards his hairline, turning to throw a questioning look at Az and Cas as they made their way to the table. The Shadowsinger’s face was impenetrable, as usual, but in three centuries of friendship Rhys had never seen Cassian look so pitiful. His wings drooped dangerously close to brushing against the ground, and his hair was a loose, tangled mess that hung over his face. Beneath it, shadows lined bloodshot eyes that were cast downward, lacking their usual spark of mischief.
Azriel shook his head as he passed; the movement was barely more than a twitch but Rhys got the meaning loud and clear. He took his seat and poured himself a hefty glass of wine; he had a feeling he was going to need it.
Everyone settled at the table, refilling drinks and piling food onto their plates, yet there was a gaping hole between Mor and Cas where you should have been.
“Where’s Y/N?” He asked, not thinking much of your absence although he was disappointed that he wouldn’t get to catch up with you before it was back to business as usual the next morning.
Suddenly, everyone stilled with their forks and goblets held aloft. It was too quiet. Panic jolted his heart into a sprint as he took in the frozen faces of his Inner Circle looking like children caught sneaking sweets before supper.
Finally, Amren spoke, glaring at Cas as she spat, “Ask Cassian.”
The Lord of Bloodshed glared at her and pushed away from the table, chair clattering to the ground behind him.
“I’m eating in my room,” he snarled, stabbing the fattest, rarest steak with his fork and plopping it on top of the vegetables piled on his plate.
“Cauldron boil me, I leave you alone for three days,” Rhys muttered, downing his wine in one long gulp.
Earlier that day, Amren had stopped by your room and offered to skip dinner with you, but you were looking forward to a quiet evening in the library. Alone. After storming out on Cassian, your two best (female) friends had spent the night in your room with you, drinking straight from the bottle of Illyrian moonshine you’d pilfered from Rhys’ secret stash until you passed out in a tangled mess of limbs and hair somewhere between midnight and dawn.
They’d only agreed to leave when you threatened to show Rhys the memory of them breaking into his room using only a hairpin the night before. And even then, every two hours or so you’d get a knock and a quiet “Just checking in!” from one or the other. You suspected they drew up a schedule, and though you were grateful to have such caring friends, what you really needed was peace and quiet.
It was hard to wrap your head around just how much things had changed within a span of twenty-four hours. But curled up amongst the stacks of old books in a plush armchair tucked away in a little alcove, you finally managed to admit to yourself that you could have handled things better. After all, you were the one that made this mess for yourself—you should have known better than to shit-talk Cassian’s girlfriend—and instead of apologizing, you’d fucked things up even further.
With a sigh, you cracked open the stiff leather cover of your journal and flipped to a blank page, letting your pencil hover above it. Not one to pay too much attention to emotions and feelings, the little book hadn’t gotten much use in the nearly two centuries since Rhysand had gifted it to you.
But when your brain was twisted into too many knots that not even a night of drinking with your friends could untangle, the only thing that seemed to help was spilling your guts onto paper. Seeing your thoughts laid out in graphite helped you make sense of them, so you pressed down the tip of your pencil and forced your hand to move.
Cassian is my mate. He’s my mate and I fucked everything up and he probably wants nothing to do with me.
I’ve been trying to ignore it, to push down these stupid feelings. I thought it was just the bond trying to force me into something more with someone who was supposed to be my best friend. Just a friend.
But if I’m being completely honest, I think I’ve always been a little bit in love with him. After all, you don’t sleep with someone on and off for half a century if there isn’t at least some baseline of attraction.
I don’t know, I guess I just always assumed that since my father didn’t want me and my mother only wanted me for the child support check, well, no one would ever want me. Not forever; not as a wife and definitely not as a mate.
I’m too damaged for anyone.
Too damaged for Cassian.
Having him as a friend forever was more important than trying for more. It was too big of a risk, and I couldn’t lose him. Couldn’t lose my family, not when I finally got one that stuck around.
I could sleep with him, though. It was transactional; a mutual itch-scratching made purposefully hazy by Mirthroot and alcohol. In those stolen moments, I could pretend I was someone else. Someone worth keeping.
Mor thinks I’m insane for keeping the bond to myself for so long, but we were fucking regularly enough to take the edge off and, well. I learned to grit my teeth and take it on the chin before I got my first cycle.
I’m good at pushing things down, at pretending to be okay. Even if he does want me, I don’t know if I can handle it. That deep, emotional intimacy without anywhere to hide.
Your hand flew across the page as words poured out of the deepest, darkest parts of you. The things you kept hidden from everyone, including yourself. Tears swelled in the corners of your eyes which stung from the effort it took to keep them from falling.
And then you felt a gentle knock against your mental shields. Rhys must be back. You peel them back just enough to let his voice in.
Y/N? Can I come down and say hi to my favorite sister?
I’m your only sister, motherfucker. I better be your favorite.
He waited, a soft breath of a presence within your mind, swirling winds of calm smoothing out the edges of the turbulent waves crashing around in there.
Even though, normally, you’d rather die than let anyone see you like this, you agreed.
Fine. But only because I missed you, you stupid bat.
Love you too, sis.
You closed the journal and tucked it beneath one thigh, adjusting the blanket you’d brought down with you so it’s fully covering the little book. It didn’t take long before you heard his light footsteps descending the stairs. Using the back of your hand, you wiped away the lingering moisture in your eyes and then straightened in your seat.
“Skipping my welcome home dinner?” He asked as he approached your little reading nook, a lazy grin and raised eyebrows painted on his face.
You scoffed, careful to keep your journal hidden as you stood up to throw yourself into his open, waiting arms. His wings closed around the two of you and you’re grateful for the extra pressure against your back.
“I missed you too,” he muttered into your hair, pulling your face tight to his chest.
The two of you stood there for a long time; Rhys could always sense when you needed something steady to hold onto. He claims it started before he even knew he had a sister, that sometimes late at night he could hear muffled sobs echoing in the back of his mind. That a gaunt little girl trapped under the mountain haunted his dreams for years before he was allowed to visit.
His father made sure he stayed away.
But as Rhys settled into his powers and got full control of them, he was able to establish a stable connection. It took a while before you trusted him; after all, you grew up with your mother telling you that the High Lord and his heir despised you.
Your sire, as Mother called him, had thrown her under the Mountain as soon as he found out she was pregnant. Set her up with a place to stay and not much else; you had a new stepfather every few years, and each one was worse than the last. The Black Widow, they called her, as her husbands had a habit of dying in unfortunate accidents.
As adults, you and Rhys were closer than most siblings, even those that grew up together. Unfortunately, that meant you had no choice but to get your shit together because running away was not an option.
“Wanna tell me why my General looks like a kicked puppy?” Rhys murmured into your hair. You felt the bond clench, tugging on your heart, and groan against your brother’s chest.
He ran a comforting hand up and down your back and you signed, knowing that you wouldn’t be able to keep what happened a secret for much longer, what with all the meddling busybodies you surrounded yourself with.
“We fought,” you muttered. “I’ve been avoiding him ever since.”
“And what, pray tell, did you fight about?”
You lifted your head, eyes glistening in the low candlelight as you blinked up at your brother. Heaving a sigh, you tell him everything that happened while he was gone. As soon as you opened your mouth, the words spilled out of you like they’d been waiting for the opportunity to escape.
Rhys had to stifle a chuckle when you finished your story because he loved you, but Mother above, you could be so stupid sometimes.
“Oh, Y/N,” he sighed, tugging you closer. He rested his chin on the top of your head and tugged on the ends of your hair with one hand.
You batted it away, groaning again.
“Listen, I’m not going to tell you what to do because I know you hate that,” he started, negating your protests before they had a chance to form. “But I think you need to talk to him. Unless you plan on avoiding him for the rest of your life, you’re going to need to work things out one way or another.”
“I could defect to another Court, I hear Summer’s wonderful this time of year.” Rhys shoved you towards the front of the library, ruffling your hair.
“Talk to him, you insufferable brat.”
It was surprisingly easy to find Cassian. He nearly knocked you over with the force of his pacing as you rounded the corner into the hallway leading to the kitchen and dining room.
“Oh, Y/N, hi,” he said, one arm bending to scratch the back of his neck. You could just barely make out a hint of red on the apples of his cheeks, though his tanned skin does a good job of trying to hide it.
“Hey, Cassie,” you said. His name came out breathier than you intended. “I, uh, wanted to apologize.” Cas was quiet, clearly ready to let you say what you needed to say. He leaned against the wall, nodding at you to keep going. After a deep breath, you did. “I’m sorry for being so rude and dramatic. The bond snapped for me a while ago, and I let the pent-up jealousy and bitterness get to me. That wasn’t fair to you, and I’ll try to be better about keeping my thoughts to myself in the future. Just because we’re bonded doesn’t mean you’re obligated to be with me. Whatever you choose, I’ll respect your decision, I promise.”
He smirked, pushed away from the wall, and disappeared into the kitchen, leaving you standing there alone and confused.
A minute later, he was back with a giant cookie clutched in one hand; your favorite. It was a little burnt around the edges, but smells perfect. He closed the distance between the two of you in three long strides, wrapping his free arm around your waist.
“It’s you, it’s always been you, Y/N,” he breathed, leaning in until his lips hovered over yours for a few long, deliciously agonizing seconds before he pushed forward and captured them in a searing kiss.
You respond, startled but thrilled, and get lost in each other. He pulls away and holds the cookie to your lips, and you almost bite into it before remembering where you are then take a step back with your cheeks oozing heat, pushing his hand down to his ease the temptation rising from your core, into your chest, and up your throat. After four years of lying dormant, the bond threatened to take control of your body.
“We should probably go somewhere a bit more.. private,” you say, wrinkling your nose at the thought of someone, Mother forbid your brother, interrupting the frenzy.
Cassian growled. Going to the cottage, he said to Rhys, melting his mental shields down just enough to let the message flow between their minds.
Does this mean..? Rhys’s response is hesitant but hopeful.
Yes, Cassian’s response is gruff. Keep everyone away. I reserve the right to tear any intruders limb from limb.
He shut the connection, cutting Rhys off mid-cackle. His threat was genuine. Even just the idea of the frenzy has him boiling through his skin.
Cas scooped you into his arms and took off running down the hallway. As soon as you burst through the back door, he pushed off and then you were soaring through the sky towards Windhaven.
Towards your future with your mate.

AN- hiii I don’t really post like this on here, usually I post all my writing on ao3 and post a link, but this one is just for tumblr :D a soft bath scene with Satoru Gojo being sweet, but silly.
The minute you mumbled about your aching feet, he couldn’t help himself. He nearly sprinted to the bathroom to draw a bath, just for you. He may have teased you about the different oils, salts, and flower petals you would throw in on the special self care days; it didn’t matter though.
Satoru had his own way of showing his love, even if it was to craft a cauldron of random bath essentials and then some. The bath supplies in the cupboard really didn’t seem like enough to him, taking it upon himself to add in a few kitchen ingredients, such as garlic cloves, ginger, and a couple sticks of cinnamon. He was proud of his wild concoction and hoped you would be too-no, he knew you would be too!
After finishing up, Satoru coaxed you up and into the bathroom, the overpowering aromas were clashing and confusing. You could smell the lavender oil, the garlic, the citrus bath salt and peppermint? It was intense and unappealing, but for him? It was the best bath you had ever seen. You did your best to keep your facial expressions in check, but that was a challenge of its own.
“I read online that lavender is to relax, garlic is for spiritual protection, cinnamon to detox, and peppermint to improve circulation and soothe inflammation.” He sounded just so satisfied with bath he had brewed. It was cute, really.
“I can’t wait to get in.” You smiled, trying to hide your repugnance, but there was no way he couldn’t smell the awful collision of miscellaneous scents.
“You’re gonna feel so much better after this one. I promise, baby.” He placed a gentle peck on your cheek, and it felt entirely sincere.
You felt the way his hands gently guided your clothes away from your body, pooling at your feet. You swallowed down any repulsion you had left, and settled into the tub after being fully undressed.
You could hear him scoop up some of the bath water and pouring it down your back. It felt nice, but his hands began to rub in the oils that clung to your back. It felt nice having his strong hands working out the discomfort, even though you had told him it was only meant for your feet. He didn’t care. He wanted to make you feel special.
You didn’t hear the soft moans you had been producing at his touch, but he did. He made mental notes about which spots felt the best and which ones made you almost flinch at his touch. His fingers gingerly traced up and down your spine, causing you to shiver. He hummed to himself, pleased.
After a while, he removed his hands. He watched as you groaned at the lack of his touch. “You really like the bath?” He asked, his voice soft and almost afraid of disappointment this time.
“I’ve never seen anything like it.” You whisper, giving him your best smile. He doesn’t stop to think for but a moment as he pulls off his own clothes to join you in the bath. “What are you doing?” Your perplexion showing plainly on your face.
He effortlessly lifts you and sits himself in the bath, directly behind you. It’s cramped, but it works. “I wanted in too.” He shrugs, enveloping you into his strong arms.
The bath is cramped, but it’s not uncomfortable. The snug feeling of being close together makes you forget all about your aching feet to begin with.
“Baby…” You whisper, turning your head back to look at him.
“Yes?”
“You didn’t have to do all this for me.”
“I wanted to.” With that, he plants a soft kiss on your hair, holding you as if he was afraid to let go.

Riot of Rot Cuisine- Second Course
Since I promised I would do another one when a Plague venue actually came out. Still ended up mostly using items from Gathering. OTL Previous can be found here: link
Eternal Soup Hotpot- the last warrior to die before the peace between Plaguebringer and Gladekeeper had their bones gifted to 10 Plague chefs. From those bones came 10 eternal soups, their cauldrons are never emptied, and their liquid is replenished as needed. Since food can be scarce in the Plaguelands it is customary to bring food items to dip into the pot and devour as hotpot together. The most common items brought are “dung balls” (ground Gigante chicken livers mixed with Wild Onion), Leechroot Mushroom, whole Glass Minnows, and Banded/Land Snails (slurped right out of the shell!)
Bloody Hearts- despite the name this is one of the few non-meat dishes of Plague. A Gryphon's Blood Sempervivum is first steamed and then the center gently scraped away to reveal a clean heart. Wild Onions, Canyon Ruffage, and garlic are sautéed with Flying Butter, and are then simmered with a Sour Strawberry wine.  Grassland Grain breadcrumbs are added before the mixture is stuffed into Sempervivum and baked till golden. A spicy Ashfall Prickler sauce is drizzled on top.
Hellwell Pepper Soup- in the hot and arid air of the Wastelands, Rapheal (a catfish) are dried out in the open. The fish are treated with a mixture of salt and Herbal Plantain to fend off microbes and hungry Bloodfang. To dine on the fish, it must be first be soaked to remove the salt. The soup base is a paste of Blacktongue pepper, Hot Pepper, Wild Onions, garlic, basil, and Cinnamon added to boiling water. The fish is then added to the pot and cooked till tender. Served with boiled Green Plantains or poured over top of mashed Turnips. A searing spice that must be survived to enjoy.
Mom's Spaghetti and Meat Balls- the meat balls can be made of any meat scraps, but the most common ingredients are ground Maggots and Diseased Fungus, which is fried in Hissing Goose fat to enhance the flavor. The pasta is made of Crisp-Leaf Amaranth, dense and chewy, and topped with a sauce made of Wild Catsup, sour Flying Butter milk, and Desert Sage. A grating of nutritional yeast is often offered to give a cheesy flavor to the dish.
Plague Bat Adobo- colonies of Plague Bats flying is a frequent sight across the Wasteland and are a plentiful food source. The meat is cut up into chunks and first browned in Mushroom Oil. It is then simmered with Wild Onion, garlic, Butcher’s Fig vinegar, Hot Peppers, and soy sauce. The meat is allowed to cook until it is tender and served over a bed of Grassland Grain.  The primary ingredient, vinegar, inhibits the growth of bacteria!
Green Eggs and Ham Omelet- an Undying Featherback is a ferocious beast, and its meat must be cured in separate caverns to keep it from reforming. This valuable ham is used sparingly not just because of its cost, but also its strong and gamey flavor. The omelet starts out by boiling Wasteland Pear nopales, which are then rinsed under cold water and chopped. Wild onions, nopales, and the chopped ham are seared, and then whisked Gigante eggs are added over top. An herbivore friendly version substitutes the ham with the meaty Leechroot Mushroom, while insectivores prefer fried Fungus Cutter pupae.
Wyrm Jelly- when a tendril of the Wandering Contagion breaks off and dies it becomes hollow. Clans carefully collect these tendrils and fill them with a gelatin mixed with blood, Cinnamon, and Herbal Plantain (anti-toxin).  The gelatin is set in the cold desert night before being squeezed out into long tubes of gummies. It is believed that whatever killed the tendril will colonize the gut of the dragon, strengthening them against any new disease.
Beetle Sausage- long strands of Grapevine and Vineyard beetles dipped into concentrated grape juice and then hung to dry like sausages. The colors can vary depending on the type of grape from the Blue Indigo to Orange Autumn. It is a calorie dense treat that warriors often carry into battle to renew their energy. Also, because somehow Plague has grapes?
Snot Shot- Streak’s Dagger herbal liquor is known for its numerous therapeutic properties, caloric values, and bright neon green color. The shot is layered with a red Sugarmelon schnapps (import from Water Flight), followed by the green Streak’s Dagger liquor, and topped with a Wasteland Pear cream liquor…and then a spritz of Sour Strawberry juice. The drink must be downed quickly before the cream and acid of the juice becomes a curdled mess of sick. (though some Plague dragons prefer it that way)

*I feel as if it’s important to note that the name “poinsettia” is the colonized name of the plant cuetlaxochitl, as the plant is native to Mexico and has roots in Aztec culture. It was introduced to the United States in the 1820s by Joel Roberts Poinsett, who was an American ambassador to Mexico at the time and is where the name “poinsettia” comes from.

Banish A Stalker
Tumblr media
The Dark Moon is the perfect time for banishing, severing toxic ties, and removing unwanted influences from your life. This spell is designed to repel and neutralize a stalker, ensuring they lose all interest and power over you. This works to energetically and psychologically detach the stalker while reinforcing your protection and sovereignty. If the situation escalates, always take mundane safety precautions alongside your magick.
Needed:
• A black candle
• A piece of paper & black ink
• A fireproof dish or cauldron
• A small mirror
• Banishing herbs (black salt, cayenne, wormwood, or garlic)
• A piece of obsidian, black tourmaline, or hematite (for protection)
Instructions:
Perform this spell at midnight on the Dark Moon. Place the mirror facing outward to reflect negativity away. On the piece of paper, write the stalker’s full name (or describe them if unknown). Draw an X over their name, symbolizing severance. Hold the black candle in your hands and visualize their energy dissolving. Carve “BE GONE” or “LEAVE” into the candle. Anoint it with black salt or wormwood for extra potency.Light the candle and say:
"By the Dark Moon’s might, unseen and strong,
You are severed, you are gone.
No more steps, no more eyes,
Your power fades, your presence dies."
Burn the paper in your fireproof dish, watching the smoke carry them away. Sprinkle the ash and banishing herbs outside your door or at a crossroads.Hold the black stone in your hand and say:
"This boundary is sealed, my will is law,
You are banished—return no more."
Snuff out the candle (don’t blow it out). Wash your hands in running water to sever any lingering ties. Dispose of the mirror by facing it outward in a hidden place or burying it away from your home.

The Harvest Moon is the full Moon that occurs nearest to the autumnal equinox date (September 22, 2024). This means that either September or October’s full Moon may take on the name “Harvest Moon” instead of its traditional name. Similarly, the Hunter’s Moon is the first full Moon to follow the Harvest Moon, meaning it can occur in either October or November.
The Harvest Moon & the Hunter’s Moon are unique in that they are not directly related to this folklore or restricted to a single month. Instead, they are tied to an astronomical event: the autumnal equinox!
• October’s full Hunter Moon orbits closer to Earth than any of the other full Moons this year, making one of the four supermoons of 2024!  As the Moon drifts over the horizon around sunset, it may appear larger & more orange—how perfect for the fall season!
It is believed that this name originates from the fact that it was a signal for hunters to prepare for the upcoming cold winter by going hunting. This is because animals were beginning to fatten up in preparation for the winter season. Moreover, since fields had recently been cleared out under the Harvest Moon, hunters could easily spot deer & other animals that had come out to search for remaining scraps. Additionally, foxes & wolves would also come out to prey on these animals.

Samhain is about halfway between the autumnal equinox & winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals along with Imbolc, Beltane, & Lughnasa. Historically it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, & the Isle of Man.
Samhain is believed to have Celtic pagan origins &  some Neolithic passage tombs in Great Britain & Ireland are aligned with the sunrise at the time of Samhain. It is mentioned in the earliest Irish literature, from the 9th century & is associated with many important events in Irish mythology.
The early literature says great gatherings & feasts marked Samhain when the ancient burial mounds were open, which were seen as portals to the Otherworld. Some of the literature also associates Samhain with bonfires & sacrifices.
• According to Irish mythology, Samhain (like Beltane) was a time when the 'doorways' to the Otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world; while Beltane was a summer festival for the living, Samhain "was essentially a festival for the dead".
•The festival was not recorded in detail until the early modern era. It was when cattle were brought down from the summer pastures & livestock were slaughtered. Special bonfires were lit, which were deemed to have protective & cleansing powers.
At Samhain, the aos sí were appeased with offerings of food & drink to ensure the people & livestock survived the winter. The souls of dead kin were also thought to revisit their homes seeking hospitality & a place was set at the table for them during a meal. Divination was also a big part of the festival & often involved nuts & apples.
Mumming & guising were part of the festival from at least the early modern era, whereby people went door-to-door in costume, reciting verses in exchange for food. The costumes may have been a way of imitating & disguising oneself from the aos sí.
• In the late 19th century, John Rhys and James Frazer suggested it had been the "Celtic New Year", but that is disputed.
Some believe it is the time of The Goddess' mourning the death of The God until his rebirth at Yule. The Goddess' sadness can be seen in the shortening, darkening days & the arrival or cold weather.
Related festivals:
• Halloween( October 31st)-
In popular culture, the day has become a celebration of horror, being associated with the macabre and supernatural.
•One theory holds that many Halloween traditions were influenced by Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, which are believed to have pagan roots. Some go further & suggest that Samhain may have been Christianized as All Hallow's Day, along with its eve, by the early Church. Other academics believe Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, being the vigil of All Hallow's Day.
Popular Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising & ghouling), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins or turnips into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, & watching horror or Halloween-themed films
• Day of the Dead(November 1st-2nd)-
el Día de Muertos or el Día de los Muertos
The multi-day holiday involves family & friends gathering to pay respects & to remember friends & family members who have died. These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember amusing events & anecdotes about the departed. It is widely observed in Mexico, where it largely developed, and is also observed in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage.
•The observance falls during the Christian period of Allhallowtide.
Traditions connected with the holiday include honoring the deceased using calaveras & marigold flowers known as cempazúchitl, building home altars called ofrendas with the favorite foods & beverages of the departed & visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased.
The celebration is not solely focused on the dead, as it is also common to give gifts to friends such as candy sugar skulls, to share traditional pan de muerto with family & friends, & to write light-hearted & often irreverent verses in the form of mock epitaphs dedicated to living friends & acquaintances, a literary form known as calaveras literarias.
Some argue that there are Indigenous Mexican or ancient Aztec influences that account for the custom & it has become a way to remember those forebears of Mexican culture.
• All Saint's Day(November 1st)-
Also known as All Hallows' Day or the Feast of All Saints is a Christian solemnity celebrated in honour of all the saints of the Church, whether they are known or unknown.

Red Beans And Rice
So with all the shit going on, it's time i started sharing my cauldron-o'-food recipes. Because im physically and financially incapable of cooking for all of you, but I CAN do this.
So. My family's red beans and rice recipe.
Equiptment Get:
large pot
stirring implement
cutting board
knife
(optional) instant pot/pressure cooker
(optional) rice cooker
Food Get:
1 bag(1lb) of dry red beans. Or really any beans
2 links of basic-ass-bitch smoked sausage. Can also use other smoked meats but this is cheap and low spoons
1 onion. chopped
3-6 cloves of garlic. Canned+minced or fresh and minced whatever's there
spices. Salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper are my good tos
rice. however much you and your family are gonna eat
pepper vinegar. while this is a condiment and technically optional, it's a must for me. How to make listed below
0.5: Pepper Vinegar
This needs to be done like 3 months ago. Locate some vinegar(i like white wine). Locate some spicy peppers. Boil the vinegar and sterilize the bottle. Shove the peppers in the bottle. Pour the vinegar back into the bottle and seal. Leave for a few months
1: Prep Beans
There are 3 ways.
Cover beans in water in the large pot and soak overnight
Cover beans in water in the large pot and boil for 2 hours(Grammy's hack)
Cover beans in water in instant pot/pressure cooker and cook on high pressure for 30 minutes. let the pressure naturally release for 15 minutes before releasing pressure(my hack)
Add a little bit of baking soda at this point. It breaks down the stuff in beans that gives you gas and helps the texture
2: Sautee
Heat a couple tablespoons of neutral oil in the large pot(or skillet if using the large pot to soak/boil beans)
Cook chopped onion until fragrant
Add minced garlic and spices and continue to cook until garlic is fragrant
Add chopped sausage pieces and cook until sausage has shrunk down a little
3: Simmer
Combine beans and onion+sausage mixture in the large pot.
Add enough water to cover.
Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 2ish hours, or until beans have softened, liquid is thickened, and flavors are melded
4: Rice
Cook rice according to your preference while the beans cook. I use a $20 rice cooker from target and it's great, but whatever works
5: Eat
Serve beans over rice and add pepper vinegar and/or hot sauce to taste
If you don't like spice just a splash of plain white wine vinegar is still amazing
So yeah. This recipe scales pretty much as far up as your biggest pot. You can feed tons of people with this and it's filling af. Also has a comfort food vibe which we all need right now tbh
See pictures of finished pot and also the dregs of my dinner lol
