Chapter 1

8th January, 2061 - 9th February, 2063

"The war was finally over after 2 years of Irons' death. Many innocent people have left this world because of mentally sick man. And this war made some of them handicapped. Luckily, my brother is alright, still stubborn and smartass like he was before, just on higher rank now - as a Captain. But his friend is a story for himself. I heard Gideon calls him Mitchell - I suppose that's his last name. Really young man, with blue eyes and looking so innocent in his face, but behind it is a soldier. I often see them trying to replace his hand but every time he can't get used to it. It wasn't the arm like Atlas'. Gideon often laughed at me, telling me that I was a coward for not joining the military. But now, he appreciates that decision after seeing awful scenes out there. I wish he didn't, but then who knows how long it would…"

"What the hell are you doing Y/N? Writing a diary? You're surprising me."

"Well I would be surprised if you start learning how to knock on that door, Gideon. What do you want?" you stood up from your chair and greeted your brother with hug

"Your opinion on this arm. Could it be fixed? You know that Mitchell is trying to get a new arm but none fits perfectly like Atlas'. So…you're my last hope."

You two sat at your working table and then you realized that he's hiding something from you. "Wait….You always tell me that you don't care about his arm, that that's his problem. What did you do?"

"I lost a bet. If I won, you and I would have a month off, but I didn't, so I have 3 choices: a) to find someone to fix this arm, b) to ask you 'Would you like to go on a date with Mitchell' and c) all above"

"And you choose…?"

"All above. I own him a favour…That's why." he was looking at you and your way of analysing the arm. "What do you think?"

"It took a big damage by that fall. I can set it apart and analyze every part and then make an identical arm. But I need some time and his arm circumference, so when you find him, send him here. And by that time, you'll give me his full name. I need to find out something about him."

Gideon stood up and he headed towards the door and stopped for a second "John 'Jack' Mitchell write that down and if you need something you can call me. And Y/N..." you turned your chair around "Thanks sister."

Things he learned about Jack Mitchell that made Gideon care

Goes to the clubs in New Baghdad to get fucked up often times requiring Gideon to go find who he followed home like a lost puppy

Jack won’t go to R&D about his arm even if it’s delivering arrhythmia inducing jolts of electricity into his body. Gideon realizes and promptly freaks out forcing him into the jeep to go to medical.

Actively sneaks out forcing Gideon to track him down at Will’s old apartment

Gideon found out he smokes but only on Will’s death date

Ever since accidentally swinging on Gideon in the night during a ptsd episode. He refuses to sleep with his prosthetic attached.

Jack during the first few months at ATLAS disassembled his weapon and hid it around his on base apartment. He did this so he’d have time to talk himself out of it. Gideon saw the parts and immediately recognized it for what it was. He made a conscious effort after that to show he cares.

Jack once called him darlin in a southern drawl and Gideon liked it. He’d been in a beanie and Gideon was fairly sure the drunk man mistook him for Will.

Their word of affirmation to exchange with each other is ‘trust me’

Gideon witnessed Jack be pinned between car and wall and for a solid couple minutes freaked out. Even as it was obvious that Jack was ok.

Finally started to bond with him then made an effort to include him in everything.

Gideon is convinced Mitchell has been enhanced beyond the exo suit. Which would explain how he managed to survive being pinned between an up-armored car and wall.

Jack once told Gideon ‘I would die for you’ and Gideon responded with ‘how about living for me instead. You’ve seen too much death already mate.’

After the Detroit mission he ended up with a severe concussion then amnesia and seizures as a result. He recovered with most of his memories. But even now.. all Mitchell has to do is scream and Gideon comes running.

Had a nightmare that they lost Mitchell to a bad episode of PTSD. It didn’t help that Mitchell chose that night to escape to Will’s old apartment. When Gideon found him he just started crying and refused to let the younger out of his sight.

Hearing a specific knock, you know it was him, that was his signature. You opened the door and there he was standing, his bag in one hand and his jacket in other one. His gray hair was first on your sight, you didn't see it very often because he usually wears his beanie. But there is something else you saw - his eyes, they're not smiling, even though he pretented his smile.

"Gideon..." you cupped his face, caressing his cheeks with your thumbs "Come here, love... You're tired, leave those things on the floor, I'll take them away later." just as you wanted to leave his bag on the floor, he grabbed you for your wrist, it hurted. "Gideon!" you turned around to face him.

"Can we just, cuddle for a while, please?" he asked with a low voice.

With a confused look, you closed the door and you two sat at your couch. He layed between your legs, his head on your left thigh. He was silent for a while, but in that time, you were doing your best to relax him by rubbing his back.

"What do you think about moving in?" It made you stop rubbing his back immediately, you wanted to say something but he continued "I mean we are together for long enough, maybe we should do that. You can move in with me in Atlas, I can move in with you here. What do you think?"

“You want to move in together? You basically live here already.” you laughed at him, wondering where did he got that question from.

"No, I'm not. This is your appartement, and I'm coming here usually after every mission and I go away the same day. I don't live here..."

You gestured him to sit up, so you could stand up from the couch. He was confused when you came to the wardrobe and opened to see his clothes in your wardrobe. "You're gone the same day, but in next week. Your clothes are here, your toothbrush, things, charger, your books, everything is here. You just need to get your arse here."

"What would I do without you,hm? Oh we would have this night only for ourselves."

"I think you're too late Captain, I'm going out with friends."
