Granted, that’s probably not the first thing Danny should be saying to the guy that just bit the curb, but in his defense; he’s not running on 100% right now either.

The man -- tall, towering, and broader than Danny is tall -- whips around on his heel, black frayed cape flaring out impressively. Danny would've whistled in appreciation, but he takes the time instead to wipe the back of his hand across his mouth, smearing the blood running from his nose across his cheek.

"Sorry." He blinks widely, not even flinching as the man with the horns zeroes in on him. "That was rude of me. I have a really bad brain-to-mouth filter; Sam says its what always gets me into trouble."

And she's not wrong either, per say. His smart mouth is what landed him in this situation -- with blood blossom extract running through his veins and cannibalizing the ectoplasm in his bloodstream. Thanks Vlad.

The man grunts at him; a short, curt "hm" that shouldn't make Danny smile, but he does because he's somewhat delirious and probably concussed. The man keeps some kind of distance, sinking towards the shadows of Gotham's alleyway like he dares to melt right into it.

If it's supposed to scare Danny, it doesn't work. Danny's never been afraid of the dark; he's always been able to hide himself in it. He blinks slowly at the mass of shadows.

"You look hurt." The shadows says, blurring together around the edges. Danny squints, and licks his lips to get the blood dripping down his chin off. Ugh, he hates the taste of blood.

"I am." He says, "My godfather poisoned me. M'dying." The agony of the blood blossom eating him from the inside out looped back around to numbing a while ago, so all he feels is half-awake and dazed.

"Hey," Danny stumbles forward towards the man, a bloodied hand reaching out to him. "You-- you're a hero, right? You're not attacking me; which is more than I can say for most costumed people I've met." Maybe it's a poor bar to judge someone at, but he's already established that Danny's not in his right mind.

The man makes no change in expression, but Danny realizes blearily that it's hard to tell with the shadows on his face. He stays still long enough for Danny to latch onto the cape -- stretchy, but almost soft under his fingers.

He looks up blearily into the whites of the man's eyes. "Can you help me? I don't-- I don't wanna die." Again. He doesn't wanna die again. He blinks slow and lizard-like. "I mean- I'll probably get to see mom and dad again, but I told them I'd at least try and make it to adulthood."

There's a clatter down the street, and Danny's ghost sense chills up his spine and leaves a bitter, ashy taste in his mouth. He immediately knows who it belongs to even before the deceptively gentle; "Daniel?" echoes down the way.

"Daniel? Quit your games, badger, Gotham is dangerous for children."

Danny's mouth pulls back, and blood spills against his tongue. "Please." He rasps, and grabs onto the shadow's cape with both hands. "Please. He's going to kill me. Please--"

"Daniel? Is that you?"

His lips part, dragging in air to plead with the darkness again. He doesn't need to, the whites of his eyes narrow, and the cape whirls around him before Danny can blink. Soon swaddled in shadows, the Night lifts him up, and steals him away.

Okay 3 things

1. I was thinking about an aroace Sonic who says things that can be taken as wildly flirty/romantic but he just means them genuinely. “You have beautiful eyes, I keep getting distracted while looking at them,” not cause he’s interested romantically in them but because eyes can be really cool and pretty man I dunno what to tell you he likes looking at cool things and he thinks his friends are neat. “You’re the most beautiful person here,” because he really thinks that, he loves his friends

2. Sonic randomly dropping heartfelt genuine comments on his friends out of the blue completely blindsiding them and then moves on like nothing happened while they’re left going ?????? Bonus points if he does something immensely stupid or jerkish just before or immediately afterwards and they can’t tell if he was serious or not with the compliment (yes he was)

3. Sonic usually being so allergic to truly vulnerable moments that when he expresses something heartfelt randomly Tails thinks he’s been stabbed or something and does not believe him when he reassures him that he’s fine he’s fine he’s not dying yeesh

I have given up at trying to get people to treat us with any sort of basic human decency. I'll see people wishing for Israelis to get killed, raped, tortured etc, people telling us to "go back where we came from" yet simultaneously talking about how violence and hate crimes are justified for any filthy Israelis who dare step foot in another country, people telling us we don't deserve a single moment of security or peace in our lives because we dared be born in the one country that's safe for us, and people ON JUMBLR will go "they're clearly using Israeli as a dogwhistle for Jew so it's fucked up" "half of the world's Jews are there so it's antisemitic and therefore fucked up" as if it wouldn't be otherwise. I've given up at this point because I've realised no matter how much we try we can't justify our existences to anyone. All I can really do is lean into the argument in the ridiculous hope people will at least see us alongside diaspora Jews, as a part of the Jewish community as a whole, because sure people don't really like Jews anymore but at least they have to pretend like they do.

okay, can someone analyze why the fuck eddie said, “you’re not the only one that feels alone” to shannon when she was mad at him for going back to the army and leaving her alone with their child?

is it because he didn’t actually love her (like that) and was forced into marriage? is it because of his parents, who never let him be a child and made him grow up too fast? like, if he and shannon had really loved each other romantically, i feel like eddie would’ve fought harder for her and chris. they would’ve been a team in facing this (early pregnancy and marriage, his overbearing parents, chris’ cp) together. instead, when shannon wanted him to be her partner, not just her provider, he always felt some kind of resentment toward her, even though she didn’t really deserve it

i think, in the beginning, she genuinely loved him and wanted their family to work, while he felt like he was living someone else’s life, a life he wasn’t supposed to live. and after they reconnected, he tried to get back together with her because he felt guilty for what he put her through and thought that saving their marriage would somehow absolve him of his mistakes (he literally married her for the same reason - because it was the “right thing to do”, not because he truly wanted it)

“i’m angry at a dead person and at myself because i forgave her… for everything, and… and it wasn’t enough. i wasn’t enough”

it’s not that he was sad and angry because he wasn’t enough for the woman he loved. it’s that he was sad and angry because he was willing to force himself into this idea of a perfect, heterosexual family yet again, even when he didn’t actually want it, and she still didn’t give him the chance to fulfill this thing he thought he was supposed to have, to commit himself to the life of lies he was living

and then he literally got caught up in a relationship with her doppelgänger because he still couldn’t forgive himself for what he did to her and their family and tried to “fix” his mistakes in a really fucked-up way by betraying both his girlfriend and his son along the way

like, in reality, when shannon asked for a divorce, she was setting him free. i don’t know her exact reasons, but i think part of it was fear that she wasn’t good enough for him, and part of it was feeling that he didn’t truly love her. “is that what i am to you? christopher’s mother? because, hey, if that’s what it is, then it’s fine” they were never right for each other. and there’s a reason for that. and it’s not just that they married too young, but that there was a deeper issue, one that became obvious when eddie broke up with ana. “i thought it would work. i did. the idea of us”

and then, for some reason, when he met buck, he liked him, and he didn’t have a problem with letting him into his and chris’ life without hesitation. he loved having him in his home. he made him his child’s legal guardian. it never felt wrong, it didn’t cause any resentment, panic attacks, or imposter syndrome

wonder what might be the reason for that

- that was a lot of the reason why we got married. the church. she got pregnant, and i think we both felt pressured into it

buck and the family they built together is the only thing eddie ever actually chose himself, not because he had to, but because he wanted to. and that’s definitely saying something

it's reference to the recurrent laryngeal nerve. The fun thing about it is that it's the nerve that innervates the muscles in the larynx, but it detours around the aorta on its way from the brain to the voice box. This is especially noticeable in larger animals where the heart and the voice box are far apart. For example, in giraffes, the structures are only a few centimeters apart, but the nerve can get 5 meters long because it travels all the way down to the chest and then loops back up. This is a result of how structures evolved from fish (with no necks) to large animals (with large necks). Evolution can't just "unplug" the nerve and optimize it, so next best thing is to gradually adjust over time
