i feel like they might see it more as him being reckless as fuck at first? cause hes always so boisterous and hes naturally a spitfire. and as they get more comfortable as a team, and they all become closer, they see it more as protectiveness- they feel the same about him, so it isnt unusual to them.

but after graves and las almas and hassan, it gets worse. ghost is the one who experiences it the most, since hes generally paired with him, but gaz and price start to notice it more and more over time and as they go on more missions. even kate notices the increased medbay reports regarding his injury treatment.

price sees it the most outside the field, on base.

the captain starts noticing that soap always accepts whatever job hes given with no real arguments, even when he looks run-ragged. he never had the thought to question it before, since soap obviously would know his own limits- he knows that soap is the one to get ghost to give himself a break when he overworks himself. but now that he actually pays more attention to it, he can see the exhaustion that soap cant quite mask in his posture or hide in his eyes.

gaz sees it more in their downtime.

whenever they hang out, it ends up being something gaz likes. not that they cant like the same things- they seem to genuinely share a lot of the same interests- but if they go out to a bar, is always gazs favorite. if they watch a movie, its one gaz talked about being interested in. if they play a game of some sort, its always something gaz enjoys. even when he asks what soap wants to do, it ends up being something gaz had mentioned at some point. one time he tries to get soap to choose a different place to drink- he says he wants to switch it up a bit, asks soap where he wants to go. soap looks genuinely lost for a moment, before he spews some shit about "that other good bar around, ye ken? cannae remember th' name," until gaz suggests something.

kate sees it in reports most of the time, since shes off base far more often than the others are.

when looking over reports and records, she can tell that soap is in the medbay both way too often and way too little. she may not be a medical expert, but she knows that a soldier with a bullet wound shouldnt be let out of medbay that soon, even if prescribed bed-rest- she also knows soap, and that man couldnt stand being put on bed rest even if he was in a fucking coma. as the visits get more and more frequent, the injuries more serious, she begins to worry.

price gives soap less to do, but that only makes the sergeant more agitated.

gaz asks soap for suggestions on what they do more often, but his friend only looks ever so slightly distressed and sticks with what they usually do.

kate gives the medbay staff instructions to make sure that soap is fully recovered before he goes off again, but they report back that he always manages to slip away before they can get an in depth gauge of how his wounds are healing.

Do you mind if I ask you some any suggestions/ideas for something I might do in the future? This is a Mini-AU where Soap and Ghost have adopted two children, a little girl and a little boy (both are around 10-11 years old), however the little girl is obviously very scared to be at the house of two 'strangers' so I wanted to ask you...How Ghost and Soap are going to act on this, so how are they going to make her feel at home (The girl's name is Olivia and she's from Russia).

(I hope I write it well because English isn't my first language, and that I'm not bother you, I suffer from anxiety so it is a bit difficult for me to ask for anything.😅)

onto the question, i think i have some ideas:

soap: i personally see him as a very good cook, so maybe he'd try to warm up to her by making her some delicious treats (maybe cakes, cookies, and her favorite foods). he’d be a great dad too i’m sure, maybe a little chaotic at times but i think kids like that? i dont know, but he for sure would do a family game night or something where he pulls the family together to play some board games or something like that! (ghost thinks it’s stupid, but if the kids like it he’ll play along). then, i feel like he’d do a good job at being there for olivia, comforting her whenever she needs it but giving her enough space as to not scare her. he also loves play fighting!

ghost: he’d be just as unsure as the kids are at first, they both need warming up to each other but i think he has the potential to be a great dad! i feel like he really tries to be better than his dad was and if he ever fails he beats himself up for it but soap is there to tell him mistakes happen and that he’s fine. he’d be a good listener and he’d read the kids bedtime stories, stuff like that. olivia always falls asleep quickly, sometimes even in ghost's lap and it makes him feel very very proud. he’d have a bit of trouble expressing himself at times but he truly does love his kids, and he couldn’t be happier with his life. he’d also love to show the kids little tricks around the house for their futures (simple stuff like how to clean the dishes properly, laundry, etc.) he’d also be a great hugger i dont make the rules💪 ghost would definitely be that dad that just spoils their kids with toys and stuff so that’s nice!

bonus: i think it’d be sweet if soap and ghost tried to put some effort into learning some russian to make her feel more at home, and to help with the language barrier a bit. it’s very chaotic and often times the accents are VERY HEAVY so olivia ends up not understanding them anyways but she appreciates the sentiments😭

“Alright people, silence in the call for a moment!“ Jack calls out when the lobby’s counter has finally reached up to nine, leaving room for one more person who is yet to join, but apparently he doesn’t care much that he’ll probably have to repeat himself when the tenth person enters the call and lobby.

“Jack, you should know by now, the day there’s silence in this call is when some supernatural force murders all ten of our mics. It just won’t happen, deal with it.“ Charlie, who was having an ‘intense’ discussion with Toast up until Jack’s interruption, says sarcastically, chuckling ever so slightly, enough for it to be contagious and make me crack a smile as well.

“There won’t be silence, I’ll be talking. If only the rest of you would LET ME.“ Jack replies just as sarcastically, getting Charlie to let out an actual fit of laughter. When his chuckling subsides along with the rest of the chatter in the call, Jack finally gets to have the speech he mentioned, “Right, ok so here’s the deal folks: today we have a guest addition to the stream, curtesy of mine because I’m obsessed with her channel. As you might or might not have noticed, there’s one person missing from the lobby but she’s gonna be joining us any minute now. As I said, I’m a huge fan so you better not embarrass me or I swear I’m gonna kill you first when I get to be an impostor.”

I don’t know what the others are thinking - probably something similar as what I’m thinking though: Noted, embarrass Jack to the best of your ability. Trust me, getting him flustered in front of his YouTube idol is well worth the death in Among Us he’s threatening us with.

“Also keep in mind that she’s of a different kind, not of our breed if you will - she’s an ASMR YouTuber. Not those who eat in the mic just because they think it’d be pleasant for people to hear.“ Jack goes on to explain, the way he’s described this girl’s craft is quite intriguing, especially when you consider how confidently Jack expressed his distaste with ASMR in the past. He’s always claimed not to be a fan but here we are, I guess people really do change.

“Thank you for making it seem like I do more than just cut up soaps, Jack. I really appreciate it but don’t bump the bar up that high, people will be disappointed when they actually visit my channel.“ An unfamiliar voice appears in the call out of nowhere. Though, unfamiliar is not the adjective I should focus on when describing this girl’s voice. I’ll list a few more but even they won’t do it justice: pleasant, awing, mesmerizing, unbelievable, out-of-this-world...I really could keep going.

“Oh come on, Y/N, you don’t just cut up soap. You turn them into bath bombs too!“ Jack laughs, earning him a playful scoff from the newcomer. “Oh yeah, almost forgot - Everyone, this is Y/N, our ASMR artist.“

“Please, some ‘artist’ I am. The people in my comment section would disagree with that description.“ She giggles after kindly responding to each and every greeting the gang sends her way, myself included. “The word I’ve seen people use most when describing my channel is ‘cringey’ so....yeah.“ She laughs, a genuine laugh instead of the bitter one I was expecting to follow such words.

“That seems to be the cool kids’ favorite word, don’t dwell too much on it.“ Rae tells her reassuringly, “What’s important is what word would you use to describe your channel?“

Y/N hums, sounding as though she’s fallen in thought but that’s only one brief moment before she answers. Or begins to, at least, “Well, if I were to describe my channel with one word it’d be....BEEFY!”

That one out-of-context word, screamed out by such an angelic voice has me breaking down with overwhelming laughter collapsing all my ability to hold back.

“Out of all the words, you’d choose beefy?“ I somehow manage to ask between fits of laughter that render me breathless.

“She’s a vegetarian, I think, I don’t know why she’d choose that word.“ Jack too is laughing his butt off but has a significantly better grip on it, “Y/N, care to explain your peculiar choice?“

There’s a lot of shuffling and random noise on Y/N’s end before her reply finally comes, accompanied by a weak meow, “Sorry guys, that was a classic cat of Mr. Beef Stronganoff seeking attention by being chaotic.” She says through laughter, her words followed by another meow which was a lot more clear, seemingly closer to the mic, “He took down my mic, and he seems like he wants to do it again....BEEFY NO!”

For some reason, even with that explanation in mind, I can’t keep myself from laughing. Come to think of it, I think the explanation only makes it funnier.

“Ugh, darn it! I saved my mic but he ran across my keyboard and turned my webcam off how do I turn it back on?“ Her voice dies down for a few secs before it reemerges from her end, “Ok nevermind I got it. Now I can answer...what was the question again?“

Recovering from his laughing fit, Jack manages to repeat the question, “What word would you use to describe your channel?”

“Oh that! Right, ok. Um, I’d call it aesthetically pleasing and BEEFY NOT THE ROUTER CABLE YOU DUMMIE!“

She’s insane. Or her cat’s insane. I can’t tell. Maybe both. Either way, I can’t help but feel like I’ve found a soulmate in this literal stranger. It’s safe to say us chaos magnets like her and I, we don’t only attract chaos, but also chaotic individuals. I’m so glad she magnetized me to herself. Or was it the other way around? We may never know - mystery is in the nature of us chaos magnets, you know.

If it was any other person on your doorstep, you'd probably berate them for inducing that almost heart attack you just experienced. Instead you grab the familiar face by the sleeve of his worn jacket, pulling him into your living room.

"I could deck you, Remus John Lupin. I thought someone came for him. Ugh. Come here." Your arms wrap  around him for a tight hug, which he returns. "He's here, Remus. He's safe." You feel Remus let out a deep sigh of relief. Pulling away, you look at him with gentle scrutiny, knowing what a toll last night took on him. "You look awful. Did you walk far? You should've told me you were coming. I could have met you."

Remus shakes his head. "I caught a train and apparated most of the way."

"Stop fussing over him, y/n. Let the poor man get past the door."  Sirius's teasing voice calls out from behind you; no doubt his canine ears allowed him to hear the familiar voice even through the closed bedroom door and knew it was safe to come down.

The two men embrace; this encounter being much more relaxed than their last. No Peter, no warranted need for revenge, no threat of execution.

As you all stand in your living room, a haunting thought hits you: you three are it, the last of your true friends. Peter is the traitor. You suppress a shudder, swearing to make the most of this moment.

"You know," you say with a grin, "I happen to have a large bottle of firewhisky. Fancy a drink, boys?" Sirius's grin mirrors your own. Remus has a small tentative smile, but it's all the encouragement you need to send you to the kitchen to fetch the bottle.

The small, quaint kitchen appears even smaller with the disregarded dishes from breakfast still sitting out on your table. The sight causes a small frown to appear on your face. All the rest of the morning and most of your afternoon had been lost to the unplanned nap with Sirius. You fill your sink with soap and hot water. A few flicks of your wand and your dirty dishes are submerged in the water, scrubbed, and rinsed. The process begins again as now clean plates make their way to the drying rack, which is concerning because you dont believe you cast a spell for that. Confused, you turn to see Remus in the kitchen. He winks and wordlessly reaches your top cabinet without so much of a stretch to retrieve the bottle of firewhisky. You follow him back to the livingroom, toting three glasses.

"Cheers to freedom," you say once everyone has a full glass, "and to being reunited with old friends."

"You hear that, Remus? She thinks we're old." You roll your eyes good naturedly. Remus rests a hand on Sirius's shoulder, giving it a brotherly pat. "We are old," he says simply, before all three of you raise your glasses to your lips, sipping at the burning liquid. You each settle comfortably in your living room. Remus sits in the armchair, leaving the overstuffed couch for Sirius and you. You sit at an end, while he opts for the middle seat, but in a respectable distance of your space. The bottle of alcohol sits in arms reached on the coffee table.

"I thought you swore off this stuff y/n." Remus says with a twinkle in his eye as he takes another drink from his glass. "You know, considering your history with it.." You groan and Sirius throws his head back in laughter.

"I almost forgot," Sirius says breathlessly from laughing. "Was that seventh year?"

"Sixth. Just before we got together. I suppose I was trying to impress you," you tell him.

"You matched me drink for drink that night."

"Which was mad seeing how I never had a drink before. I spent all next morning and afternoon in bed, throwing up. It was awful."

"You're forgetting the best part," Remus interjects.

"Dancing on top of that old table in the Shrieking Shack, singing the chorus of "Rock and Roll all Nite" at the top of my lungs was far from the best part. I only wish I could forget it."

"That wasn't singing, love. More like cats dying," Sirius quips while he and Remus laugh. You say nothing, well aware how accurate the description fits. You take a long drink from your glass.

"Yes, well as, uh, entertaining as that moment was, I wasn't referring to it," says Remus. You look at him questioningly. "Have you forgotten sneaking into the Slytherin boys' dorm, stealing all their robes, turning them hot pink, changing the crest to a mountain troll, and then returning them to the dorm?"

"Oh,  Merlin. That was the same night wasn't it? James had never been so keen on lending me his invisibility cloak until I concocted that plan!" The two men laugh and you join in.

"You know most of my other friends thought I was strange for being into muggle music." You say as the laughter dies down.

"Lily shouldn't have?" Sirius asks after he swallows his drink.

"No. You're forgetting Lily and I weren't friends first. We didn't really talk or hang out until she and James started dating."

"That's right. I forgot. I remember the two of you constantly together."

"Because we bonded over you two idiots. Prior to that, she never came out and said it, but I think she thought I was daft hanging around you lot most of the time. The other girls were more forgiving, but they had crushes on you all." You give a careless shrug. It was no secret how sought after the boys had been in their schooldays.

"I never quite understood how you became friends with us," Remus says.

"It was easy with you. You were so nice, calm, dependable, and not obnoxious. Peter…" you pause, choosing words carefully, not wanting present feelings to influence memories. "He was quiet and lonely. Pretty much agreeable. Again, easy. James and Sirius? I was determined to never speak to either after that boat ride our first night."

"We saved your life that night!" Sirius interjects.

"You two were the reason it needed saving! Standing up in a fucking boat because you two saw whatever in the lake. James knocking me overboard in the process."

"It was a giant squid and we rescued you."

You roll your eyes. "I was drenched, freezing and completely mortified. And as apologetic as James was, he kept calling me the wrong name." You all laugh. 

"It wasn't until second year that I thought they might be okay. We had already become friends," you say looking at Remus. "I missed about a week of classes due to acute bronchitis. You spent time with me afterwards, helping me catch up. When you missed later that month, I was ready to return the favor."

Remus nods, remembering the time fondly. "You were an excellent note taker. Much better than the other three."

"Did you even take notes?" You ask with a playful glance to Sirius.

"In second year? Probably not." He grins ever so cheekily. You shake your head, but are smiling.

"So we became friends and you befriended James and Sirius by default?" Remus muses.

Sirius feigns hurt. "Are you implying we were some sort of consolation prize?"

"Actually," you interject, "They saved me once again. A group of four older boys were harassing me, just dumb taunts and knocking my books out from my hands. They came right over, not caring about being outnumbered. Got the gits to leave me alone. James finally learned my name and I realized Potter and Black weren't so awful after all."

"Those guys were jerks. It didn't sit well with us to see anyone bullied like that."

"Unless of course it was Snape," you counter.

"That was different," Sirius's free hand clenches into a fist as he takes a hard drink.

Remus is quick to change the subject. "Do you still have that remembrall?"

"The one we enchanted to go red only for James? Mhm! It's at my flat in the city."

"Do you mean our flat?" Sirius asks.

Your smile falters. "No. Sirius. I got a different place. After…everything. It was too hard."

A deafening silence falls. Each of you taking long sips from your glasses.

"Oh!" You jump up suddenly, which given your somewhat inebriated state is not the brightest idea. You stumble slightly, but Sirius steadies you, grabbing you by your hips. His fingers linger and your eyes meet. You lose yourself; for a moment you're sixteen again and his touch is more intoxicating than the alcohol. His gaze tells you he feels the same.

Remus clears his throat loudly before taking a drink from his glass.

"Thanks," you mumble, setting your glass on the table.

Sirius releases you from his grasp, though you still feel the ghost of his touch. "'Tis no trouble, darling." You sense his eyes on you as you disappear from the room, heading upstairs. Your head is buzzing, but you blame that on the alcohol…

You return downstairs to the living room, the fetched item tucked securely out of sight under your arm, and find the boys, men talking with easy smiles. It makes you so happy to witness and spend this time together. Your presence has their full attention.

"Follow me, please." You fill your glass with more firewhisky. Sirius mimics the gesture and offers Remus a refill, but he just shakes his head no and silently indicates to the liquid still in his glass. You grab your wand and lead your little group outside to the backyard. The sun sits low in the west, the sky becoming more plum and black than pink and gold. Buckbeak sits on the ground near your shed, one wing tucked over its head.

You hand Sirius your wand and then produce his prisoner robes. He laughs and even Remus looks as if he approves. Sirius waves your wand and the dingy, tattered garment is set ablaze. 

After a while, you all make your way back inside. You prepare a light dinner and the eating and drinking continue with more laughs and shared memories. Hours pass. The contents of the bottle nearly drained signal the night coming to an end.

"I'm one drink away from dancing on tabletops and singing, or, screeching some A-ha, or something equally as embarrassing." you laugh. "I'm going to bed. Remus, I offered Sirius your room, but you're welcome to the couch. There are blankets and pillows in the hall closet." 

"Thank you, y/n. But I should be going."

"What? No. Stay. I insist. I need to see your bemused face sipping tea when I come downstairs with a bloody hangover and you're just fine."

Remus grins. "I hate depriving you both of such a moment, but I have an appointment tomorrow morning. I've already rented a room." You frown but don't press the issue any more. "Though if you don't mind, I thought I'd travel by floo."

"Of course. Help yourself. Powder is on the mantle." You hug him close and kiss his cheek. You excuse yourself, giving the other two time to say goodbye.

As you head for the bathroom, you pause hearing their low voices.

"I'm so sorry, old friend, for believing you... betrayed them. I should have known better. I-"

"There's nothing to forgive. I doubted you, too. The war made us all fear the worst.."

Mentally, you chastise yourself for eavesdropping and begin washing your face.

Sirius has made his way upstairs. In passing his room, you say goodnight. You're about to close the door to your bedroom when he calls your name and you turn to see him stepping towards you. Without warning his lips crash down on yours. Your fingers intertwine in his dark curls at the nape of his neck as you let the kiss deepen. His hands grip your waist and he hoists you up off your feet with little effort just as he did many times all those years ago. Your legs wrap themselves around his waist as he carries you to your bed. He drops you gently and only breaks the kiss to look at you. Still hovering over you, his gray eyes search your face for the answer to an unasked question. You nod in response, but he continues to gaze at you longing to hear you say it.

"I want you."

A slow breath of relief leaves him and his mouth finds its way back to yours. 

The night ends with two former lovers once again completely losing themselves in a perfect moment.

There's an unspoken understanding that the night you and Sirius shared together was more than a drunken hookup after a long night of reminiscing. But you don't repeat the night, though you share your bed with him. Nights are hard for him. Sleep doesn't always come easy and he often wakes in the middle of the night screaming, or panicked with sweat pouring off his body. But your presence brings him a comfort he can't otherwise achieve. And so, you spend your night together in your bed. Sleeping.

As days turn into weeks, a comfortable routine has set. Remus visits about once a week. Surprisingly, Sirius has taken to caring for your garden. You go into town as needed and you and Sirius cook dinner together most nights. Buckbeak, now known as Witherwings per a letter from Hagrid that reached Sirius, roams your yard freely, occasionally taking flight in the safety of the countryside night skies, always returning by daybreak. As precautions for the hippogriff and Sirius you casted Protego totalum over the cottage and yards. 

During this time together, Sirius learns how you took over your parents' shop*, how you've taken on a promising young woman who mostly looks after it, leaving you to spend more time here at the cottage, which also belonged to your parents. With tears in your eyes, you told him how they died months apart just over two years ago. He comforted you, remembering them both fondly and told you they'd be proud of you.

The day is still young when you tell him you have to go to the shop to take inventory. Before you leave you call out to him.

"Since it looks like rain, can you please go through some of your things in the attic?"

"Yes, dear," he uses the term mockingly and you playfully glare back at him.

"Try not to burn the place down while I'm gone." With that, you close the door behind you.

It's late afternoon when you return home. Sirius is waiting for you. A midnight blue box in his hand.

"Will you marry me, y/n?"

*a/n: I kept this vague so you can imagine a shop that fits your personality/likes/whatever. I'll only specify this later if needed for storylines. I wanted something where you could be allotted time off easily. Personally I imagine maybe an apothecary? Or maybe an antique shop. What about you?

2: I'm thinking of writing a prequel? More like blurbs, highlighting moments between you and Sirius. But I need to know what you want to read. First engagement? First kiss? When Sirius realizes he's in love? Time at Hogwarts? Post Hogwarts but pre Azkaban?

aaaaaaaa i dont remember if it was elementary or middle school but we were assigned this really cool ukrainian book that ive actually read before they assigned it. well, nobody here will recognize it but it was Тореадори з Васюківки by Всеволод Нестайко and it was about 2 boys who were best friends growing up in the countryside and they went on adventures and had fun and their friendship made me so happy,,, i guess i was all for cool friendship portrayal even back then! it was mostly laughs and jokes but some moments were actually serious and hit me really hard and i remember them to this day actually

I never gave up on you, even when the world acted like it did.

So Im going to preface this with the fact this is about Damian Wayne and an Oc of mine that I ship with him that really only my girlfriend is going to fully understand. This is a DC oc that I haven posted anything about yet, only shared it with my girlfriend as I add to her and refine her. But I was greatly inspired by a fic written by @my-one-love-is-music about Tim faking his death. It gave me so many emotions and is the whole inspiration behind this piece of writing and I just had the urge to post it. Its a bit rough because its not beta’d or proofread by anyone(even me) because I’m publishing it right after finishing it but I hope you guys will like it anyway! 

My girlfriend is going to kill me for this...

I never gave up on you, even when the world acted like it did.

It wasn’t true. It COULDN’T be true.

Damian refused to accept or believe G...She was just...de--gone. 

No no she wasn’t gone. It didnt feel right. It wasnt right. She...she was too strong to just be taken down like that.

Damian refused. He wouldnt accept she was gone. 

That was the first week, the start of the first month of her “death”. While the team and the world grieved he vocally and aggressively denied it. His attitude concerned most, but no one approached him at first. 

        “ Everyone grieves differently...just leave him be for now you guys. He just needs time...” Grayson was the one who rationalized his denial, his tone low and almost dead. The voice of a man whose gone through a loved one’s death before...no...the voice of the boy who went through THIS particular loved one’s death before.

The concerns for Damian’s well being and mental health arose stronger after the first month of denial, when the obsessive behavior began.

She wasnt dead. She was alive, she HAD to be, she WAS alive.

Thats what Damian told himself, everyday as he obsessively searched for her. Every hint, every even slightest trace was poured over over and over and over for days on end. Something was off, he knew it he knew it goddammit!  Everything about it was off and wrong. She was too strong, the death was too sudden, they weren’t allowed to see the body...

He scoured over every single little detail of the mission, the time it happened, everything. He watched video surveillance frame by frame, second by second until his eyes stung and his vision was as blurry as some of the footage. He knew she was alive, he didnt care what everyone else said. They were wrong...

They had to be wrong.

His behavior, his refusal of her absence began starting arguments between Grayson and Kori. Damian acted out worse during missions, he refused to listen, and if he wasnt forced to go on missions or patrols he was locked away in his room searching and hunting for hints, clues, little trails she’d have left for him. But he knew of the arguments, arguments he heard when they thought he wasn’t there.

         “ Dick, his behavior isn’t healthy at all! He isnt listening at all anymore. He’s hurting himself with this obsession. Nothing I say makes a difference to him but he sees you as a brother, you have to do something, he’s spiraling into a dark state of mind thats not letting him move on!”

          “Kori...”

          “Dick you need to do something. This isn’t healthy it isn’t normal--”

          “ Kori I understand you’re worried. I’m worried about him too. But...I also understand what he’s going through...when...back when I first lost Gr--lost Her all those years ago...I was exactly like Damian is now. I didnt want to accept it, I refused to accept she was dead, even when she died in my arms Kori. I know that his obsession isnt healthy or even really helpful for him but I understand it. He’s in pain and distressed and angry and this unhealthy denial is natural. He just needs more time, some more supervised space, and understanding...” 

Damian walked away from that room before they noticed him, a small bubble of gratefulness in his chest at Grayson’s defense. But he was still angry.

She wasnt dead. How could even Grayson give up on her so easily?! 

He knew they thought he was going crazy by the middle of the second month, that he was seeing things that werent even there. At a person who wasnt there. 

The denial and obsession got worse. And with it so worsened his temper. 

They stopped speaking her name around him when he almost took off Beast Boy’s head with his sword for mentioning her name in a past tense. He forgot to eat a couple days at a time, he now outright refused to go on missions. He didnt understand. How could they go on these other pointless, unrelated missions when she was out there, alive and possibly in need of help. He started losing more and more sleep, time not spent searching filled with restless hours of nightmares. Of her, calling his name, of her lost and alone in a strange unfamiliar place, of her captured and tormented.

Those ones he’d wake up in a cold sweat and spend the rest of the night searching, sometimes waking up screaming with bangings and pleads to be let in on his locked door.

Damian knew she was out there. She was leaving him a trail, he just had to figure it out and follow it.

By the third month he looked like a train wreck with feet. He was exhausted, empty, and shakily staying awake on blinks of sleep and caffeine. But now he was leaving, constantly leaving his room and the tower to chase after leads and clues to find her. All over the city, all over towns outside the city. He marked each dead end on a map he pinned up to his wall so he didnt follow a wrong lead twice. He was haunted by ghosts of her presence, her laugh, her comments. The only reason he’d remember to eat was imagining her voice in the back of his mind

Damian look at you! You’re not gonna be a good Robin if you dont eat jerk. 

So he would eat and go back to his work. Even when his father broke his lock open and dragged him across country back to Gotham to get him away from the city it happened in.

       “Shes not dead Father. I know she’s not. Why wont any of you believe me?!”

       “ Damian....I know how much it hurts to lose someone...And I know you don’t want to believe it...but sometimes its better to accept reality and move on for them.” He caught the fist the young boy threw towards his stomach. He hadn’t properly trained in awhile, he was reckless and his reflexes had slowed since Kori had stopped him from locking himself in the training room without supervision, before he started finding leads.

      “ Damian...”

      “ She’s out there, She is still alive Father. I know she is. I dont care what you or Grayson or anyone else says. She is still alive and I will find her and bring her back, even if it ruins me.”

The middle of the third month was practically lived in the Batcave, using every new resource now available to him. He still went out and searched Gotham, searched towns and cities around it ruthlessly. Nothing really stopped him, from requests, orders, threats, even blocking and locking up exits after leaving for patrols. Damian still found his way out  and continued following lead after lead. He felt as if he was slowly going crazy, seeing glimpses of her in crowds or on streets. But every time he’d catch them it either wasnt here or she was gone by the time he caught up. 

But he didnt give up. He wouldnt give up on her like everyone else.

She never gave up on him, he refused to let her down by not doing the same.

Even as some nights doubts flooded his mind, clouding his resolve. 

Shes out there...she has to be....right? 

It was the fourth month. He was almost broken from exhaustion and on the verge of completely losing his mind when Grayson gently coaxed him from the Bat Cave to the Tower. He was so exhausted he didnt register the slight apologetic tilt to his worried frown, the almost guilty pleading light to his blue eyes. 

When they got to the Tower and Damian set his foot on the pavement he almost pulled out his sword and attacked Grayson on the spot if he had more of a mind to. His anger flared then swept itself away in the wave of emotions that struck him seeing the female figure standing beside Red Hood, looking at him with the small smile he’d almost forgotten.

     “ Damian...what the hell happened to you?” 

Her voice, low, shocked, concerned and alive was what snapped him into motion, storming over to the two with an enraged look of death. 

Her dark hair was longer now, starting to lightly brush her shoulders instead of her ends of her ears. She’d lost a little weight and she was dressed differently than she normally would. But those aqua green eyes were still the same he remembered, eyes dark with concern at his silence.

He kept storming for her, fists clenching  so tight his hands began to sting and he looked like he was about to punch them both in the face. 

      “ Damian...? Shit Damian you look terrible what--” She never got to finish that sentence before Damian was holding her in a bone crushing hug that actually knocked some breath out of her. He held her as tight as he could, held her warm, real, living and breathing body in his grip and let himself relax for the first time since she left him. 

She was there, she was ok, she was ALIVE.

He felt her arms slowly but surely wrap around him in response, one hand grasping onto the back of his shirt and the other slipping around his shoulders, her face pressing into his shoulder. Her scent flooded his senses, she smelled a little different, like soap and tacky strawberry shampoo but it was still her.

      “ Gracie...Gracie I swear if you ever....EVER pull a stunt like that and fake your fucking death on me again I will kill you myself when i get my hands on you...Dont ever do that again...” His threat didnt bother her by the sound of her soft, apologetic laugh. Her grip around him tightened and his body loosened and uncoiled as if her presence her touch was carefully unwinding a tightly coiled spring. The world around him was a bit of a blur as she moved away to look up at him and press her hand, her warm living hand, to his cheek with a apologetic smile.

      “ I wont do it again...I promise Damian...never faking my death again. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you...im sorry.” He shut his eyes and leaned into her hand, letting her voice, her touch, HER wash over him. She was here, in his arms, alive and breathing and talking and HERE.

      “ I never gave up...” He felt her perk up at his words, even felt the almost puppy like confusion. He opened his eyes and gave a small vulnerable smile that he only showed few people and his pets. He moved his hands to cup her face before pulling her into another embrace, cradling her in his arms tight as if she would disappear the moment he let go of her.

      “ I never gave up on you Gracie...Even when the rest of the world acted like it did....I never stopped looking for you, following the trails you left me.” She smiled, eyes getting wet and glassy.

      “ You....Fuck Damian...I really dont deserve you...and I know you almost caught me a few times...” He chuckled softly and leaned his head forward pressing his forehead to hers. 

       “ Dont ever do that again or I’ll skin your hide.” She gave another soft laugh, the sound almost music to his ears after the past for months of hell.

       “ Never again.” He smiled and leaned his face more, the relief physically showing on his body as he pulled her closer.

       “ And thank you...for not giving up on me.”

The small kitchen table in Cecil and ‘Choly’s studio apartment abutted a full-height open-frame modular shelving unit which doubled as a space divider. Slumped at it, before ‘Choly was a quaint parchment-and-string box, a small kitchen knife, and his reader on a kickstand. He rubbed at his face in a dull restlessness, staring down some of the pieces he had in his drafts. Ultimately, he stood and paced a good bit the long narrow space which ran from one end of the apartment to the other, a track which functioned not unlike a hallway.

“Are you all right?” Cecil asked from the loft-bunk in the front corner of the room, not looking up from  where he’d curled up with a physical book. “I made more coffee before I got comfy, if you want.”

“Yeah, trying to work on some writing. A hot drink sounds good, really.”

'Choly rinsed out his mug and poured himself a fresh cup, and sat again. Then, he snipped the string with the knife and unfurled the wrappings to reveal a wax-coated box. His glasses came off and lay across the table from him, as he continued massaging at his cheeks and chin and neck marbled with scars. Abruptly, he switched frames to his messenger app and clicked on Augen’s username. A heavy sigh came out of him, and rather than initiate conversation he produced from the small box a chalky-looking pastel ball the size of a fruit. With a small detachment he smoothed out the parchment with his free hand, setting the ball down atop it with the other. He also fished from the box a plastic bottle containing a thick amber substance, which he set by his drink. Drawing up the knife, he was about to make a cut, but stopped short.

“I got confec earlier. Y’want a slice?” He would have mentioned the resin, but didn’t want to share that.

“Hm? Yeah, I’ll take it.” Inviting it, Cecil didn’t question the acquisition.

The dreg pressed the knife into the edge of the ball, which had a mealy consistency somewhere between soap and fudge. A quarter-inch butt fell to the paper, and he got up and took it over to his boyfriend, who reached down to accept it. Cecil put it in his mouth, a dry ineffectual suck, and sank back down into his nest of comforters to return to his book. Once he’d returned again to his reader, ‘Choly made two more slicing motions and doled one disc for himself, letting the hyssop-like bouquet dissolve on his tongue as he sank into his chair and stared at the messenger window he’d opened.

My Kerataconus and Epi Off CXL experience

Hey y'all, When I was researching when I first found out I needed the surgery, I didn't see the amount of in depth explanations as I wanted to see, so is literally every detail I remember for that next very curious/overwhelmed person who comes searching. This is going to be full of all types of errors. I'm on day 3 recovering and only give enough of a fuck to write this not to write it well. :) Diagnosis: I always watch tv with subtitles. I started noticing ghosting and thought my prescription was off. I went to the dr and he gave me a new prescription and told me not to wear my contacts overnight cuz my eye was swelling. He said to wait a month then come back if swelling hasn't gone down. I waited a month and came in still complaining of ghosting. He then figured it was kerataconus and sent me to get a second opinion. Second Opinion/Medications/Insurance/Surgery Prep: I went to a big bad legit eye dr and she took the topography of my eye. My memory is a little hazy on this one, but they dilated me then I basically sat in a chair with my face to some other big eye machine and took pictures. Wasn't a bad experience just annoying because I have long eye lashes. She then told me I had a mild case and she's surprised my eye dr caught it. She told me to start taking zaditor which is an OTC eye allergy drop. It's available at most pharmacys I've been to since being told to use it. I definitely recommend it if you haven't heard about it yet. I was a chronic eye rubber and I never feel the need to rub my eyes anymore. She also gave me some eye drop used to relieve eye pressure. It's usually given to people with glaucoma, but she said it could potentially make it so there is less pressure in my eye and the cornea will warp less. That eye drop made me a little woozy so I didn't take it as much. She recommended I wait 9 months to come in and get more topography done. She didn't want me to go through the cost of having the surgery if it was going to be stagnant. However, everything who had waited online said they regretted it and wished they had done their eye as soon as they were diagnosed. So, I asked for the surgery. (Thinking back I should have asked on the phone that this new big bad legit eye doctor did actually do surgeries. She didn't and I was hoping for a one stop shop instead of being bounced to yet another doctor.) She referred me to other doctors, but none of them took my insurance (TriCare). I knew tricare covered the surgery so I had to call around to literally every single big bad legit eye doctor to see who took one. One of the most well known eye places in my area actually told me there isn't any insurance that would cover the surgery, which was just their ignorance but point is keep searching even if you get feedback like that. I finally found the only eye doctor in the Kansas City Metro (Grin Eye Care for any of you who happen to live near KC) to take my insurance. I went in and they said they always performed the surgery on a specific day and were booked out a few months. That was fine with me, just sharing so you all can be aware your surgery may not be scheduled super quick. They prescribed me 3 eye drops in prep for my surgery. One was an antibiotic and one was a steroid. She said to begin them 3 days before my surgery. They also asked I wash my eyelashes using diluted baby soap for a week prior to my surgery. I also couldn't wear makeup for a week. Surgery Day: My surgery was at 330, but they asked me to get there at 3. I signed in and there was a misunderstanding about insurance and they asked me for 2500 to pay for the procedure. We got it all cleared up, but that's how much it would've costed without insurance. They gave me a Xanax and told me to sit down. They called me into the office where they explained the 3 parts of the surgery. They started by numbing my eye using drops. Then he put those eye opening apparatuses on my eye. He then explained he was removing the first layer of my eye. He had me put my chin on that machine they normally use with the rectangle shapes light where they tell you to look at their ear (dont know the name of it and not in the mood to check). He then took out this sonicare looking brush thing and started brushing my eye. To which I was like "ohhhh my god" multiple times. I was so afraid of looking away and him taking off the wrong part. It took about 2 minutes to do. I did feel some slight burning after but it was super slight. We then began the eye drops. They moved my seat about and put me all the way back in a laying down position and then just started to drop this yellow stuff in my eye every 2 minutes. There was a machine that would ding whenever she needed to do it. Nothing special about the yellow stuff. It would sometimes roll down the side of my face but the nurse would wipe it. I will say during this piece I noticed everything would get super blurry between the drops. My nurse said it was because my cornea was dehydrated. Whenever she put the drops my vision cleared up again. Just a note: after my epi was off I could still see things fine. I was expecting to be blind the rest of the time, but it would just get blurry from my eye drying thanks to the eye separator. That device wasn't super uncomfortable either. I was fine with it. It did feel a little weird when I tried to blink, but the eye number kept me not realizing how dry it was. Last step was the UV light. They had to measure my eye with that stick jabbed thing to make sure it was thick enough for the next part. Had to be at least 400 microns and I was at 460. My nurse continued to add the drops and then kept the UV light above me for me to look at. The UV light wasn't super bright like I thought it was going to be. It was blue and kinda dull. I was worried about my light sensitivity for this part before the procedure but it was fine. As I stared at the light everything would get black until she put more drops. Thats normal just keep looking wherever you were originally looking. Also dont move around too much because your nurse will have to move the uv light over and over. My husband was in the room with me after my epi was off and he took a picture of this part of the procedure and sent it to our family. So, if you want your family in the room to keep you company during and hour of eye drops ask! Once we were finally done she put the bandage in my eye. It felt like a really big thin, badly fit contact to me. She said if it falls out to tape my eye and not put it back in. Before I left they taped my eye and gave me more tape for the road. Recovery Day of Surgery: I left the eye care center wearing big cover all sunglasses that went over my glasses. They were amazing and I'm actually wearing them as I type now due to light sensitivity. Anyways, I had 0 pain from when I left at 445 to around 7. I had basically 2 hours to text my family and do everything normal because nothing hurt. Around 7ish I started to feel the burning. My doctor said it would feel like hot sauce, but it literally just feels like someone scraped off the top of your eye. The same analogy works a little better in my opinion. I also had some like just eye throbbing mixed in too. My eye was swollen. The doctor was telling me to expect 10/10 pain. I would gauge it at a 6/10 and mostly just because its so new to me to have my eye hurt. There was no sharp pain. It was manageable and someone I read before said it was like a toothache and I would agree Again, every one has their own pain tolerance. I do consider mine to be a little higher. Anyways, I kept my eye closed with tape and removed it only to add drops. Adding drops was a big difficult because I didn't want to open that eye. It was fine though I got them in. I kept that eye shut all night. One of my questions before my cxl was if I would be able to use my phone afterwards once the pain started. I was texting some, but did not feel comfortable looking at the phone very often. I could see my with good eye but it kind of was difficult to use it. If I turned my eye any way I would feel the other eye turn as well and it was uncomfortable. It also was a bit sensitive to light, but that might've been because I kept myself in a very dark room. It was very difficult to go to sleep. The whole throbbing and burning thing was not going my way. I did take some ibuprofen and it took the edge of. They also had prescribed me xanax, when I finally took it I fell asleep around 3 AM until 8 AM. Recovery Day 2: I woke up with some pain but definitely less than the previous night. I took more ibuprofen and my eye drops. My eye was still pretty swollen so drops were still a pain. I still kept the eye closed. I went to the doctor for a follow up and he said I had some "goop" around my eye and I needed to make sure to wipe it every once in a while with a wet paper towel. I had been afraid to touch my eye at all so I was happy that I could do that now. He had me open my eye and asked how many fingers he was holding up. I was surprised that I could see! I expected to be super blind. Everyone was blurry, but I could still see a lot. He also told me I needed to actually open my eye to let it heal. That visit to the doctor was super quick. I came home still with some pain and took more ibuprofen. I then attempted to open my eyes. Opening my eyes was weird because my bad eye was so swollen. It didn't want to open and then my other eye was light sensitive and affecting my other eye. It was weird. I got home and made it a challenge to myself to open my eyes. I ended up putting on pocahontas (one of my fav childhood movies because nostalgia makes everything better) and actually opened my eyes to watch it. It was great. I could read the subtitles with both of my eyes open. When I only used my bad eye I saw the subtitles suuuuuuuper ghosted. Everything was also blurry but not a terrible blurry. A similar amount of blurry as when you don't have glasses on. Again, I was able to use my phone way better than the first day, but not for extended time. I also started using cold compresses the second day. I should've used it sooner! I felt no pain when the cold was on my eye. It was great. By the end of day 2 the pain had dulled a bit but was still there. Recovery Day 3 (right now as I type): I woke up with very little pain. I would describe it as more so irritation that is mostly in the middle of my eye. I can keep both my eyes open for an extended period of time. I put reddit on nighttime mode to make it easy on my eyes. I am able to look outside with my coverall sunglasses on with my good eye and not feel like the other eye is dying. My bad eye can only stand looking outside 3 seconds. I might will update this later in the week, no promises though.
