Greif is weird. It's sadness, but it's also fear. Stephen King said "nothing is so frightening as what's behind a closed door". Death, loss, uncertainty, the things you mourn, are all doors slammed in your face with no idea what's waiting behind them or when it will come to get you too. It's surprisingly selfish that way. You don't get to know or understand, not yet, and maybe you never will. You can only imagine, and that's the worst part.

Whenever I get special treatment for something, my first thought isn't "yes, of course, I deserve this, I'm important and special and everybody knows it," it's "oh my god, this is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me, I have to change my behavior to make them proud going forward so they don't feel like they wasted their time helping me."
In college I had a professor who gave me extra credit for a bunch of assignments I just never submitted because I was going through a depressive episode, and from then on I was on top of things, never missed another one. I would have failed without him, he had no reason to help me but he did anyway.
In November 2020 a stranger who is now my closest friend helped me out of a bad situation, and I can never repay her kindness and generosity. She honestly changed my life.
I don't deserve anything, and I'm grateful for all that I've been given. I can't imagine how entitled someone would have to be to expect this sort of treatment at all times. How could anyone sleep at night if they took advantage of the generosity of others? Help isn't an infinite resource, it must be cherished and either paid back or paid forward (that's not to say that all help must be transactional, there's not some ledger that needs to be balanced, I'm just saying that you should follow the golden rule; do unto others)
If you find yourself as a starfish, and someone throws you back into the surf, be grateful and strive to live the best starfish life you can; if you're not thrown back, don't resent others who were or the helper who passed you by.
If you're the one walking the beach, help as many starfish as you can, but don't kick yourself over the ones you couldn't.

DP x DC Prompt #1
An old collection is finally shown again at the British Museum after being left in boxes for a few decades.
By coincidence one Tucker Foley, reincarnation of a Pharaoh, notices among the collection several items that used to belong to him. It doesn't take much (or anything) to convince Sam and Danny to go on a... Field trip yup field trip with him to London, a little vacation for his 24th birthday if you will. What do you mean his birthday isn't before several months? That's blasphemy.
They simply came during the day as to control the perimeter (and make a list of other artefacts that would suddenly be returned to their rightful place.)
They could not have planned that one Ra's Al Ghul also had several of his own personal items that he wished to retrieve among the very same collection. Or that he would decide to not only get them back himself but also at the same time.

Starting off the new year with I think the most background heavy piece I've ever made!
I think Rainwings and Nightwings would celebrate their traditional holidays together after the events of The brightest night. So this drawing is meant to show their cultures kind of blending together during a very joyful time.
I remember talking about this concept with someone on tumblr a year ago but when I went back through my posts I couldn't for the life of me find it - so if your reading this, I remember you and this drawing stems from that conversation so thank you!

[ID: Digital illustration in color of Vash and Wolfwood from Trigun Maximum. It’s two 3 panel comics that illustrates the same sequence. The first focuses on Vash. In the first panel, he’s in a hurried motion with a worried expression. In the second, he’s stopped, huffing a breath out as he’s scanning for Wolfwood (not pictured). In the final panel, he breaks out into a relieved smile, eyes lighting up with warm cheeks.
The second comic focuses on Wolfwood. In the first panel, he’s looking downwards to the right with a cigarette in his mouth, wearing a neutral expression. On his face are notable scratch marks to indicate him being in a fight prior. In the second panel, he turns towards the viewer, lifting his head as he notices Vash (as from the previous sequence). In the final panel, he smiles warmly with teeth and holds up a peace sign. END ID]
[ID: Sketchy black and white drawings of Vash and Wolfwood, continuing off the comic. Wolfwood’s back is to the viewer while Vash’s profile can be seen, now by Wolfwood’s side. He has a bright smile as he says to Wolfwood, “You’re safe!” Wolfwood responses, bearing a grin too, “Who do ya think yer talking to? ‘Course I am. Look, I got them alive.” He points to two figures who are tied up and have comically large head bumps. Vash looks to them with an uncertain expression as he says, “Oh! You did, huh… Are you sure they’re alive?” Wolfwood, with a more irritated expression, responds “What, didn’t think I could do it?” Vash says, “No, no! I knew you could!” and pats Wolfwood on the cheek and his head comfortingly. END ID]

Yet there were moments
There were these pure arresting moments when you stepped outside your head
Outside your pain outside control, outside the bullshit, out of body, out of rage
Outside the need to get it, get it ?... you will never get it, that's okay
-Watsky, Talking to Myself
@ladyofthestayingpower and @sweetsigyn these lyrics make me think of your advice to me. ❤️ I was thinking of you both, especially, when I drew it...the bright beautiful lights of kindness and hope through the clouds and wreckage.

trying not to talk too much abt the bear s2 but im Really fuckin frustrated that even with everyone demanding that they’re sooo media literate and sooo smart that no one has talked about claire and the way she sparks audience discomfort. like, she feels out of place within the show because CARMY cannot accept that he is getting this good thing—she feels out of place in HIS life. she’s actually crafted to be the ideal girlfriend, with glowy bokeh lighting in a grocery store and beauty shot close ups and a sweet instrumental leitmotif to show to you, an audience member, that she’s too good to be true in carmys eyes. if you’re an audience member, she raises alarm bells in YOUR head because she raises alarm bells in HIS. he literally tells us that—that’s the crux of his final monologue, that he doesn’t believe he can have the life of food and wines best chef and a life of love and human connection. he doesn’t believe he’s deserving of good things because his family has always been so fucked, because nothing he’s ever tried to hold together has held together—except for his cooking. it’s done this way on purpose, to make you feel that anxiety that he feels around this relationship, and to make you question why you feel it too

Slightly dark/insane batfam who is overjoyed to have Jason back from death is one of my favorite aus ever. Like imagine Bruce being oh so proud of his son who ended entire gangs and built an empire in a matter of months before he even turned 19. Ofc he's gonna brag to this fellow JL members. His kid is just so driven and smart! Jason has no idea if they were always like this or if his death made them this way but he's not complaining (much).
Ooo that would be interesting!
Like, a Batman who still doesn’t kill and adheres to his moral code but has absolutely no problem if his kids turn murderous. He’s a proud and supportive dad either way, the only rule he has is that they keep it strictly to criminals and leave alone the regular civilians.
He went a little cuckoo when he lost Jason. As did Dick. (And Tim wasn’t sane either way lmao)

The fact that Main-verse Ooo is as good and as kind as it is (relative to the other universes shown so far, at least, it's obviously not perfect) all because of the same character that starts off as the OG series' antagonist, the person we were made to see as the bad guy (albeit an often ineffectual one) for several seasons, is making me lose my mind.
Imagine finding out the guy you spent your childhood beating up and saving princesses from is in fact a driving catalyst behind you being able to exist, and not only exist but also live in a world that knows what kindness is. All because that man, the same man who you've witnessed do terrible things, once met a little girl and taught her how to be good.
Simon's story really shows us that even if you lose your way and forget how it is to be good yourself, the world keeps the memory for you. That act of love Simon showed Marcy by protecting her and seeing her as more than the monster she thought herself to be created ripples upon ripples, small at first but eventually enough to help give their wreckage of a world—a world that easily could have been forsaken, its goodness overlooked because of its inhospitable remains—a chance to grow into something beautiful. Because of those very same ripples Simon created, the people of Ooo grew up in a world where they know enough about kindness that they were able and willing to spare the 'bad guy' some, to see beyond the wreckage and allow him to grow too.
In saving Marceline, Simon helped to not only to save the world, but also himself.

DP x DC prompt time:
So I've seen the idea of Danny & Jason being friends while Jason was dead & a ghost and reuniting after Jason was resurrected, and I had a thought:
Damian, after his death, ends up in the Ghost Zone and makes a friend in the form of fellow baby ghost Elle.
They go on a number of adventures together in the Zone, exploring, causing trouble, running around with Cujo and Wulf and generally becoming the best of friends.
When he is resurrected, Elle is devastated thinking her best friend moved on without telling her he was going.
Years later as teenagers they run into each other again on the human side (Elle recruited to join the Teen Titans? On the run from the GIW? Acting as emissary to the Ghost Zone on behalf of Danny? Got summoned? Just ran into each other while visiting the same zoo one day?) and are reunited.
The problem? Despite Elle knowing Damian, he doesn't remember his time as a ghost and doesn't trust this strange girl that knows way too much about him.
Bonus Super Serious Chaos flavor for the prompt: Jon is either jealous at first over how well Elle knows Damian or sees how hurt Elle is that Damian doesn't know/trust her and tries to make her feel better making Damian jealous of the other two getting closer (or a combination of both) all eventually leading all three to realize they all equally like each other.
