I just read the most gutwrenching news that the Court of the Appeal has denied Ryan Castellucci their legal gender in the UK.

To say that I am sick to the absolute bottom of my stomach is an understatement.

As a fellow non-binary person this is an utter slap to the faces of anyone living under the assumption that the United Kingdom had even a scrap resembling justice or fairness left in the dregs of it's government.

The Lord Justice Ravinder Singh and the Gender Recognition Panel should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

With the direction the UK government is moving in, and the extreme swing to the right we're experiencing right now, it's difficult not to give up hope. But the absolute grit and determination that Ryan displayed in the face of the full brunt of government disregard and callousness is commendable.

Hey, a blog I used to follow (nonbinary support) reblogged a post talking about how “trans men are the men of trans people” and I really advise all of y’all to stay away from them. It scared me, because I’ve been following them for some time, and they’re supposed to be for nonbinary support. You cannot support nonbinary people while also being transandrophobic. You can’t. I unfollowed them, and will probably block them like I did with another blog, a popular sex ed blog, and I’d really advise y’all to do the same. Trans men are men, but they are NOT privileged over other groups because of them being TRANS MEN. Nobody is privileged for being trans!

After repeatedly seeing a ludicrous amount of pan erasure across the board for all companions, I've now been forced to see the horrendous take of someone theorizing that Emmrichs "real" sexuality was gay because they... *checks notes* ...got the impression he was originally drafted as gay early in development.... With no evidence of that.... At all...

So! Let's get this settled!

All of this is banter taken from in game of him clearly and without any ambiguity showing interest in men and women!

Direct from the devs mouths, in numerous places, confirming that each character is explicitly pansexual.

There's also the in-game dialogue choice to discuss being trans or nonbinary with Emmrich, to which he will respond with: "There is nothing so attractive as someone who has found herself/himself/themselves."

So we have numerous instances, both in game and confirmed directly from the devs themselves, of characters being explicitly pansexual.

In conclusion:

Emmrich Volkarin is canonically pansexual! All of the companions are canonically pansexual!

One thing I've noticed about the erasure of aspec identities is that it's eerily familiar to the erasure of non-binary identities. Often times Aspec identities are viewed as Blank slates to slap other identities on top of - similar to non-binary identities.

A character uses strictly they/them and people will say "Okay but I'm going to use he/him or she/her because x looks like a boy/girl to me" A character strictly states they are not interested in romance and people will say "okay but I'm going to call them a lesbian/gay/any other sexuality because obviously they must be interested in x even though they said they weren't interested at all."

"I can ignore this characters canonical non-binary identity because people can headcanon whatever they want and I headcanon them as cis instead! no this isn't erasure!!! it's fiction it doesn't hurt anyone! pronouns don't equal gender anyways!!!"

idk as someone who is both nonbinary and aroace I'm having a sense of déjà vu.

Egg culture should be actual eggs thinking they might be trans and having fun jokes about it. It should be trans folks going "maybe you are, maybe you're not, you're fine here either way" in response. It should not be "oh this person does something that's not typical of their assigned gender, THEREFORE"

Let women grow mustaches and still be women. Let men wear dresses and still be men. If they DO turn out to be trans, cool, BUT DON'T MAKE THIS ANOTHER CASE OF GENDER STEREOTYPES TWO, ELECTRIC BOOGALOO.

lately the posts about mizuki being a transwoman have really been getting on my nerves because mizuki hasn’t been confirmed to be a transwoman! just transgender!! just because they’re transgender does not automatically mean they are a transwoman!! non binary people exist too and as a non binary person, they’re very non binary coded!! stop saying they’re a transwoman like it’s a fact because it’s literally not!! they have no canonical gender!! they’ve just been confirmed to be transgender!!

it is so infuriating that people are assigning mizuki a gender identity before they’ve even told us what they really are!! they never said they’re a transwoman!!! and for the record, they’re not non binary either!!! they’re transgender!!! that’s literally all they are canonically!!

In the show, we have a new pink-haired Firelight character (Eve), who exists to trigger Jinx and upset Ekko. I'm sure all these similarities, down to the mustard yellow and brown, are pure coincidence. There's no way they set out to make a show with queer representation, had a canonically non-binary human character right there, and whitewashed them into a Violet knockoff.

Okay but coincidences do happen. Maybe they never even looked at any LoL Firelights for inspiration except Ekko. Surely there isn't a black-haired Chirean with side bag, patchwork clothes, arm wrap, bat ears, and a round-eyed mask with slits around the mouth.

And we know he's not non-binary coded because this show has a CANONICAL non-binary character, if they wanted Peri to be non-binary, he'd be non-binary

Edit: It later occurs to me that this sounds antagonistic to queer people projecting onto fictional characters who are not canonically queer; there is literally nothing wrong with choosing to reinterpret a character as queer, people reinterpreting Peri as queer is fine; just don't pretend it's in the text because it isn't (maybe he's a bit queer, but that's a vibe not coding)

If I’m not allowed to refer to myself as transgender anymore then I’m going to refer to myself and other trans people as mythical creatures. Personally I am fond of being known as a vampire, but others may be mermaids or werewolves or unicorns or fae or elves. We shall remain in existence no matter what.

Btw, this is how conservatives keep getting to claim that trans people are a new thing no one has ever heard, because our history and existences have continually been erased or obscured systematically through out history.

The most famous example was 92 years when the Nazis raided the library of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, the medical practice where the term transsexual was first coined and the first gender affirming surgery was performed in in 1931.
