I know I probably (most likely) have made this post before, but the assumption that no one explained attachment to Anakin is so fucking stupid

1. Why would the Jedi never explain it to Anakin?

2. Anakin lived as a Jedi for over 10 years, how would it never come up?

3. It's predicated on "we don't see it therefore it didn't happen"

4. Anakin himself explains what attachment is and why Jedi don't do that in AOTC, the entire original argument is based upon not paying attention to what is said in the movie, Anakin knows very much what attachment is, he just doesn't practice it, to everyone's detriment

I feel it’s odd how many people seem absolutely determined to say how important romantic relationships are. Like I’m not interested in a romantic relationship, that just isn’t my vibe, but I still deeply care for everyone around me (even the people I disagree with, I still want them to have decent lives). The over emphasis on romantic relationships fails to show exactly how much people can and will give to others outside of that.

I'm sorry if those people don't love their families, don't love their friends, don't love their pets, don't love their community, don't enjoy any media, don't have any self-steem and don't have any sort of goodwill towards humanity.

I'm sorry they are miserable assholes, basically.

think the key to understanding the attachment/non-attachment theory always just comes down to "the things that you personally like are not actually and literally the Best Things in the entire world, and you shouldn't make prioritise them over the wellbeing or opinion of other people just because they're Yours" and if you do not want to follow this particular rule, you do not actually Have To Be a jedi if you don't want to be.

that article going around abt firefox's new ad program is annoying bc it's phrased as though "mozilla has finally TURNED on its people and is SELLING YOU OUT for cold hard cash!!" when. that's not what's happening. it is specifically being implemented to discourage tracking behavior, and literally all the data they are giving to advertisers is aggregate and anonymized, which is like, the opposite of what that post wants you to worry about, lol

I think the "Jod is a former Inquisitor" (or some manner of dark side and/or fallen Jedi, personally I'm kinda hoping on him being a Knight of Ren, their nomadic raider lifestyle is very complimentary for someone who became a pirate) theory became all the more likely based off episode 5, but not even because of his actions at the end

I think the smoking gun is how he describes attachment

To the Jedi (and many other light side Force traditions), attachments are feelings of possessiveness, an inability to accept change, the unwillingness to let go, a clinging feeling, a selfish need

(Imma just insert this here because it perfectly encapsulates the point)

In summary, to the Jedi there is nothing wrong with loving or caring about others, in fact it is encouraged, Jedi should have love and care for all, but that must be a selfless, compassionate love, not showing favor or trying to control what you love-because that is not love, it is possession, and of course, the Jedi accept when people and things are gone, when they change, die, when things are beyond their control

But that's not how Jod describes attachments

The way he describes it, as purely being feelings of love and care for others (which again i will remind you, are things that the Jedi are perfectly ok with), and framing those feelings as weaknesses, it reeks of the dark side

It is an all too common thing across many dark siders that caring-especially loving-people, are feelings that hold you back or can be used against you (see Darth Malgus)
