Title: Underline the Black Rating: Explicit Pairing: Efnisien ap Wledig/Dr Gary Konowalous Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Darkfic, Disturbing themes, Age Gap, Omegaverse, Alpha/Alpha, no Mpreg, Medical experimentation, Medical trauma, Dominance/Submission, Dystopian universe, Forced bonding, Forced relationship, Imprisonment, Nonconsensual medical procedures, PTSD, Flashbacks, Nightmares, Chronic illness, Mating cycles/Heats, Knotting, Miscommunication, Trauma recovery, Mind control, Child Abuse, Hope, Hopeful ending.
Summary: Efnisien ap Wledig is an omega born into an all-alpha family. Abandoned by his birth mother and raised by his aunt, he is subjected to a lifetime of medical experimentation and brainwashing and believes himself to be an alpha. But the experiments begin to fail, and he is abandoned yet again to an Omega Rehabilitation Facility, where the family expects he will be retrained into the ‘perfect omega’ and placed in an arranged marriage, or be eliminated if this is no longer possible.
The Facility don’t know about the experiments, and Efnisien doesn’t even know why he’s in there in the first place, since he’s an alpha…isn’t he? One thing’s for certain, he definitely doesn’t need an alpha companion, no matter what the staff at the facility seem to think.
Underline the Black - Chapter 79 - Protective Omega Instincts @ AO3
In which Efnisien meets Flitmouse for the first time, and has his first ever one-on-one conversation with an omega. Flitmouse goes from defensive to protective during a short span of time, when he realises just how neglected and tormented Efnisien's life has been.

imagine modern yan!ayatos wife trying to escape him?
Trigger Warning! Yandere Ayato! Abusive Relationship! Power Imbalance!
Firstly, it’s impossible to escape him under most circumstances since whenever he’s not there he’ll leave someone from the shuumatsuban following you around at all times. But let’s assume that some miscommunication and whatnot leads to a rather sloppy agent with you. Someone who isn’t thrilled at the prospect of babysitting his employers wife, convinced they were meant for greater things, that you don’t pose much of a threat so he could afford to neglect his duties.
Let’s say that you manage to escape from them and get past the walls of the Kamisato esate. The estate was much more isolated compared to other ones, built on the outskirts the countryside, not a single person in sight for miles. Assuming it’s a routine day, you’ll have to make your escape hasty, Ayato had always liked you greeting him at the door so he’ll find out about your escape the moment he returns to the estate. Maybe you got lucky, you find a truck driver or lost tourist navigating the otherwise abandoned highways and manage to get to the closest city. At that point it will be safe to assume Ayato already knows you’ve escaped, the person in charge of watching you long dead and gone and the servants of the Kamisato estate frantically searching for you.
No matter how lucky you get from here onwards it’s practically impossible to go under Ayato’s radar. You have no access to any money and the entire area will be scattered with his people so it’ll only be a matter of time until someone spots you. If you do manage to find some kind soul willing to help you and escape to some distant city, you’ll probably be able to slowly rebuild your life however you still run the risk of being recognized, Ayato never shied away from flaunting his wife in public. Anyone who knows anything about politics will recognize you, the wife of one of the most prominent men in Tevyat at the time, that’s just the extent of his influence.
Thankfully for you, Ayato will do everything in his power for the media to not find out about your little escape. It’d stain his reputation beyond repair so in the public’s eye, his wife has fallen sick again. Going to the authorities is out of the question for you since they’ll practically offer you up to Ayato on a silver platter, finding a job will be hard as well as most companies are connected to him in one way or another so you’ll have to live around the shadier areas of your new city, work for either small local shops with the odd part time job here and there, one that has particularly lax entry requirements and don’t do background checks on their employees.
However, no matter how well you hide yourself, you’ll always leave a trace behind whether intentionally or not and unfortunately for you, Ayato is a master at finding them and piecing them together. It’s only a matter of time before he finds you and when he does he’ll make sure you go through the same hell he went through.
A picture or two of you two together shared on his social media to calm whatever ridiculous conspiracies people may have made up due to your absence, saying that your condition still hasn’t improved much but you were doing well, just the usual to calm public sentiment.
It’s safe to assume no one will see even a glimpse of you for a month or two at least. Ayato at his core is a family man and he’s willing to go to great lengths to get rid of anything that threatens his family so that rebellious spirit of yours won’t last much longer. He’ll make sure you don’t even dare to think of escape from now on.

Ngl I'm getting kinda tired of how much people are blaming Ladybug/Marinette for Chat Noirs/Adrians issues. It's like she's expected to be some mind reader. People act like she just completely dumps him but she has expressed her trust in him so much and asked about his well-being.
You can't just fault one character for a heap of miscommunication.
It's kind of messy, because on the one hand, Chat Noir isn't telling Ladybug that he's upset. She'll ask him if he's okay, and he'll say he's fine, and she trusts him. I also think it's important to note that Ladybug has been very kind to Chat Noir in the few interactions they've had this season— apologizing to him in Optigami (because on some level she knew that defeating the akuma without him would upset him, even without him expressing it), telling him he's the best partner she could've asked for in Guiltrip, Marinette validating Chat Noir with a "that's a great idea!" when he told her his plan to help out during Sentibubbler, and as discussed genuinely asking him if he's okay when he seemed a little upset in Rocketear.
But I also think.... on some level, this kindness to him is coming from a place of guilt, too. I mean, none of this stuff is necessarily strange for Ladybug (she's typically always nice to him, unless he's actively being annoying or they're teasing/bantering), but the fact that Marinette is having nightmares about Chat Blanc and emphasizing to Alya "not even Chat Noir can know!" signals to me that Marinette knows she's betraying Chat Noir, and she knows that the moment he finds out, he's going to be very hurt. Because.... there's no other reason to keep Rena Rouge a secret from him other than his feelings.
I think Marinette knows that what she's doing could hurt Chat Noir, she just doesn't realize that it already has. She doesn't realize that empty words of "I trust you" aren't enough when her actions imply otherwise. And she certainly doesn't realize the extent to which it'll hurt him. I think she's aware that Chat Noir can be insecure about his place on the team, but she doesn't know the extent of it or that a lot of those insecurities come from his awful home life. And she doesn't fully realize how much he relies on her and their relationship because of it.
But also, to be clear....... Marinette is so fucking stressed this season, like she has had so much dumped on her with the Guardian stuff and she's only 14! She's traumatized by a vision of the apocalypse, her crying partner in white, and her own corpse turned to ash.... and she has NO IDEA what lead to that event beyond a vague "we were in love and knew each other's identities" (she doesn't know the actual cause was just. child abuse. but that's another story). She's terrified! She doesn't know what she's doing! She can only do so much!
What's so sad about the Ladynoir conflict is that it's basically Ladybug and Chat Noir's traumas tripping over each other. Chat Noir is sensitive and bad at expressing his feelings because he fears abandonment and was raised by a neglectful father. He's so scared of losing her that he's scared telling her such will push her away even more. Ladybug is stressed out and traumatized by Chat Blanc and feels like she needs to carry the burden of everything, and in fearing hurting Chat Noir's feelings, she further pushes him away to "protect" him...... unknowingly hurting him in the process.
Like.... these poor kids.... someone just get them therapy please...........

A Companion for Loneliness 2/2
Summary: Phil brings Wilbur home for Tommy.
Warnings: Dehuminization (treating people like pets), implied abandonment issues, mentions of taking medication, and implied past child abuse/neglect (not from Phil).
Word Count: 2674
Part 1
__________________________________________________________
When Tommy came out of his room, he quickly realized he was left alone in the house. The realization left a feeling like a rock in his stomach but he tried his best to ignore it. Phil wasn’t leaving him forever, he probably just went out to get a few things. Maybe he was even coming home with some dinner. Tommy tried to let that excite him, trying to focus on positives so he didn’t spiral, like how Puffy taught him to do.
It worked a little but the feeling in his stomach didn’t go away. He decided that he needed a more physical distraction, something that would fill the silence of the empty house. He sat on the sofa and turned on the TV, turning the volume a little too loud but not caring. The noise filled the silence and it eased Tommy enough that he could relax against the couch.
When he heard the jingle of keys at the front door, his relaxed posture straightened and his head snapped towards the direction of the door. His dad yelled into the house that he was home with dinner and the tension that Tommy wasn’t even fully aware of left his body.
Not alone. Phil is back, not alone.
Tommy turned off the TV, no longer needing the noise when he could hear Phil shuffling in the kitchen. He practically ran there, pausing when he entered when he noticed the odd thing out among the takeout boxes. A box, or at least a cube shaped item, was hidden underneath Phil’s jacket next to where Phil sat and was passing out the food.
“What the f*** is that?” Tommy couldn’t help but ask, coming closer to it. He grabbed the edge of the jacket and started to lift it off but Phil gently placed his hand over Tommy’s to stop him.
“How about we eat first and then I’ll explain, okay?” Phil said with a soft smile. Tommy frowned but dropped the fabric and took his seat at the table. Tommy had immediately taken notice that the food was from his favorite place and wasted no more time in digging in, even if he did keep glancing towards the mysterious covered box.
The two ate in silence for a few moments, Tommy unaware that Phil was trying to figure out the best way to tell Tommy about his work. Finally, Phil settled on just telling him outright. Any other way would result in either miscommunication or a worked up Tommy. “I got a call from my work earlier today.”
Tommy froze at the mention of Phil’s work. The rock feeling in his stomach returned but this time it carried dread. Things never ended well when Phil’s work was involved. “Oh?” Tommy said, shoving a forkful of noodles in his mouth, hoping to appear somewhat indifferent. He knew it was a lost cause though, Phil knew him way too well.
“They need me to put in more hours, which means I’ll be out of the house a lot more this summer.” Phil said, breaking the news as carefully as he could. He watched as Tommy’s face fell and Phil could feel his heart break. It hurt even more when Tommy tried to cover up his sadness.
“That’s f****** stupid.” Tommy muttered, anger lacing his words. Deep in his mind he could hear Puffy’s voice telling him the anger was just a defense mechanism but he ignored it. He shoved another scoop of noodles into his mouth despite it tasting like ash.
“I know.” God, Phil knew. He hated doing this to his sweet kid who had already gone through so much crap in his life. It really was unfair. “I hate it too. But I... well I got you something that I hope helps a bit.” Tommy looked up to see Phil setting a hand down on the mysterious box. “Puffy suggested it. I know it’s not the same as me being here but I hope it helps.” He repeated as he pushed the box closer towards Tommy.
Tommy pushed his food out of the way in order to bring it in front of him. He stared at it, anger still coursing through his mind. What could Phil have possibly gotten that would make this situation okay? He said Puffy had been the one to suggest it. Was it medicine? He hoped not, he had just gotten down to only two pills a day.
Well, he wasn’t going to find out what was under the jacket by just staring at it, so he grabbed at it and pulled it up and off of the box. Tommy blinked and Phil’s jacket slipped from his hands, falling to the floor. The box turned out to be a cage but it was what was inside the cage that had Tommy’s mind blanking.
“Is that a…?” Tommy started, looking back and forth between the cage and Phil. Phil smiled, nodding.
“A borrower, yeah.” Phil finished for Tommy and Tommy leaned in closer, ignoring the way the borrower inside flinched back.
“And...and he’s mine?” Tommy asked softly and man, this kid was going to kill Phil one day. He loved him so much.
 “Yeah, Toms. He’s all yours.”
All the anger left Tommy, now replaced by pure, unadulterated excitement. And as Tommy grinned wide, Phil knew he’d have to thank Puffy again for the suggestion.
***
Tommy burst into his room, setting the cage down on his desk. After the reveal of his new pet, Tommy had gained his appetite back and Phil had told him a bit about the borrower. Mostly that his name was Wilbur and he was 22 years old. Phil also made sure to mention how Wilbur was Tommy’s responsibility.
Tommy had just nodded along, scarfing down his food so he could head up to his room and take Wilbur out as soon as possible. From back when they were first discovered, Tommy had always wanted a borrower. Of course, back then there was no way he could ever get one. They had been expensive when borrowers were first released as pets and even if they hadn’t been, Tommy wasn’t with Phil back then. But now, borrowers were much more affordable and Phil was kind enough to get him one.
Despite him always wanting one though, Tommy didn’t know a whole lot about them. He knew the basics, like how they were super similar to humans. They could talk and think and all that crap but when it came to interacting with them, Tommy was at a bit of a loss. Maybe he’d look it up later but for now, he’s sure it’ll be fine. Besides, he’s too excited to wait any longer.
“Congratulations Wilbur!” Tommy exclaimed as he took a seat at his desk. “You are the luckiest borrower alive because you’ve got the Tommyinnit as your new owner!” When he looked down to meet Wilbur in the eyes, however, he wasn’t met with a face of awe or gratefulness like he thought. Instead, Wilbur’s face was hard and defiant.
“What? What’s that look for?” Tommy asked, confused by the expression.
“Oh, I don’t know.” Wilbur spoke, causing Tommy’s eyes to widen. Yes, he knew borrowers could talk, that was their whole thing but it was something else seeing one talk in person. He listened intently. “I guess you could say I’m not super into the idea of having an owner.” He spit the last word out, like it had personally insulted him.
Now Tommy was even more confused. “What? You’d rather be in the pet shop forever?” One would think a borrower, like any other pet, would be happy to get out of there and into a home where they were actually loved and cared for. “You’re making no sense.”
Wilbur seemed to be fuming now but he released some tension with a long sigh. “What’s the point…?” He muttered, quiet enough that it seemed to be to himself but Tommy had still been able to hear it.
“Whatever. Ignoring your weirdness, I think this is the start of something beautiful.” And he really did think that. Not only for Wilbur, cause he was set on being the best owner ever but also for himself because now, he wouldn’t be alone anymore. “Now come here, I wanna hold you.”
“What? No, hold on-!” Tommy ignored Wilbur’s cries as he unlatched the cage door and stuck his hand in. He made sure to be super careful as he wrapped his hand around the borrower’s small frame. Tommy couldn’t help but gape at the feeling as he brought Wilbur out. He knew from what he read that holding a borrower was weird but he could never picture just how weird. Until now, of course.
Wilbur squirmed in his hand, pushing against his thumb with his free hand, the other caught in his fist. Tommy looked at him curiously before flexing his hand, his grip tightening for only a moment before returning to the loose but steady grip. Wilbur’s breath hitched and he stopped moving. Amazingly, Tommy realized that he could feel Wilbur’s rapid heartbeat beneath his fingers. It was so weird and yet so cool at the same time.
“Can...Can you put me down, please.” Wilbur spoke up again and Tommy’s attention was turned back to his face. The teen pouted.
“But I just started holding you.” He didn’t want to set Wilbur down just yet. “How about I do this?” He opened his hand, allowing Wilbur to sit in his open palm instead of being trapped in his fist. A compromise.
Wilbur’s arms snaked around himself but he looked a bit better. “I guess.” He refused to look Tommy in the eye, apparently. Tommy hummed and, unable to contain his curiosity, used his free hand to gently pinch Wilbur’s arm in between his two fingers. Wilbur immediately yelped and tried to pull his arm free but the struggles were pitiful at best.
“Oh come on,” Tommy said after seeing how much Wilbur was freaking out. Seriously, did he just get a weird borrower or something? He didn’t think they acted like this. “It’s not like I’m going to rip your arm off or anything, I’m just looking.” A shiver ran down Wilbur’s spine and his struggles slowed down before stopping entirely.
Tommy smiled and gently rubbed the arm he was holding. It was so tiny compared to his own, it was amazing how these little guys could even exist. Or how they even managed to survive out in the wild before being caught years ago. It was a good thing the humans had found them, now they could be kept perfectly safe. Wilbur would be perfectly safe with Tommy.
Tommy let the arm go and Wilbur let out a sigh of relief as he quickly brought his arm closer to himself, cradling it against his chest. He mumbled something under his breath but Tommy couldn’t quite catch it. He leaned a bit forward on instinct, causing Wilbur to flinch again. And then the borrower glared at him.
“I wouldn’t expect you to understand, considering you’re a child and all but there is such a thing as personal space.” Wilbur quipped, voice shaking only slightly. Not that Tommy really took notice of it or anything. He was more focused on what was actually said.
“W-Wha-“ He sputtered. “I am not a child! I am a big man! The biggest man you will ever meet!”
Wilbur winced at the volume but did his best to hold his ground. “I’m older than you by like, seven years.” The borrower pointed out. And yeah, okay, that was true. Tommy was only fifteen while Wilbur was twenty two but still.
“Yeah, well, I’m bigger, which is all that really matters.” Tommy said, making his point by poking Wilbur square in the chest. He made sure he was gentle though, he didn’t actually want to hurt the little guy after all.
Wilbur grit his teeth and man, Tommy could barely even see them they were so tiny. “So being bigger means you get to control me? And-And do whatever you want?” The fear in Wilbur’s voice, shining through despite Wilbur’s best efforts, made Tommy pause.
His first instinct was to respond with a, well yeah, of course. That’s how things worked, especially between borrowers and humans. It was just known that humans knew what was best for borrowers. That Tommy knew what was best for Wilbur.
But…the fear in Wilbur’s voice offered up a lot of different ways he could have meant that. The fear also made Tommy uncomfortable. He didn’t want the borrower to fear him. He wanted the opposite of that-he wanted Wilbur to feel safe.
Slowly, he lowered his hand to the desk, carefully sliding Wilbur off his hand. Wilbur was frozen and wary at the sudden movement. He backed up a step as Tommy shifted a bit closer, wariness and fear out full force.
“Hey, maybe we got off on the wrong foot.” Tommy said, trying to keep his voice quiet. “I don’t…I’m not going to hurt you or, I guess like, punish you or anything. And I don’t want to, like, completely control you. You can still have opinions and stuff and voice them. And I’ll try to listen.” He thought that bit was especially important to say. “I just, I don’t want you to be scared of me.” He said, voice going lower in slight embarrassment at having revealed that.
“I don’t have many friends.” He paused, wincing slightly. “Or, any, really. And with Dad going to be gone basically the whole summer, I…” He shook his head, trying to stop himself from getting too worked up. Remember what Puffy said, deep breaths. “I don’t want to be alone and I think you and I could get along pretty well, yeah? And it won’t just be you keeping me company. I’ll keep you company as well and we can both help each other out. At least, that’s how I see it.” He rubbed the back of his neck, looking off to the side. “So…please don’t be scared of me?”
He winced at his own words but when he finally turned back towards Wilbur he saw him in deep thought with flashes of emotions that Tommy couldn’t quite place before settling on what he did. Wary acceptance. Tommy liked to think he was an expert on that particular feeling.
“…I can’t promise I’m not going to be scared, especially not right away.” Tommy wilted a bit at that but it made sense. Tommy tried to imagine being that small himself, surrounded by things much bigger than him. It was hard but Tommy would probably be scared for a while, simply because of the size difference. “But…” He took another pause to let out a long sigh that seemed to turn into a groan near the end. And then he let out a small laugh. “Well, it’s always nice not to be hurt. And to be…listened to, I guess. I’ll…yeah. Maybe you and I could get along.”
Tommy’s eyes lightened up and he beamed. That was the first time someone had agreed with him on getting along with him, other than Phil and Puffy of course. “Really!?”
Wilbur winced but shook it off, nodding up at Tommy. “Yeah, we can…we can be there for each other. Like you said.”
And at those words, Tommy couldn’t stop himself from picking Wilbur back up and holding him to his chest in a sort of hug. Wilbur squirmed slightly but settled down fairly quickly and Tommy felt a featherlight pat on his chest. The action made Tommy’s heart soar.
“Like I said, I’m gonna be the best owner ever and the two of us are gonna have so much fun!” Tommy exclaimed and he heard Wilbur hum.
“Whatever you say, you gremlin child.”
And Tommy grinned, the usual feeling of dread he got in his stomach when thinking about the rest of summer was gone. He wouldn’t be alone anymore.

I have more plans for this AU, including a rewrite of this story but in Wilbur’s POV because he’s got a lot of thoughts and feelings throughout this that I didn’t get to touch upon. And I want to write some stuff with Puffy’s nephew and son and their borrowers (one guess as to who they are lol) that she mentioned in the last part. So this AU isn’t finished yet!
But first, I’m gonna work on and try and get out the next chapter of An Unlikely Duo. Still though, I’d be happy to answer any asks about this AU!

Tangled the Series Character Analysis: Childhood Trauma POV
I can't believe Tangled the Series really created two incredible antivillains and threw them in direct contrast with the pre-existing golden couple. I love what the showrunners did with the main quartet, so I made a very subjective analysis post about it from a Childhood Trauma POV. (Spoilers, obviously.)
The Boys
Tumblr media
The series' focus is on Rapunzel, and by association her direct opposite, Cassandra, so the boys get comparatively less screen time. But it doesn't take long to figure out that Varian is meant to be a parallel for Eugene—these are two people dealing with the absence of parental guardians, struggling to reconcile the lives they previously had with their changing ideals in relation to a less-than-perfect Father Figure.
They both respond to the helpless state of being young, alone, and powerless by trying to take back power in any way they can. Eugene reinvented himself and buried his desires for a family. Varian throws in everything he has into recovering what he lost, because he's a child and the best solution he can think of is to return to the familiar safety of his father's presence. A significant portion of his desperation is fueled by fear of his father’s disapproval, because as much as Quirin loves Varian, he wasn’t the dependable voice of support. Varian needs approval from outside sources, which was also Flynn Rider’s purpose in life, once upon a time. (Again, parallels.)
Throughout the series, the boys' relationship with each other transforms from exasperated incomprehension to easy understanding. The process is hastened as Eugene lets himself realize he cares a lot about troubled kids who remind him of himself. He becomes aware that children should not be required to survive on their own like he and Lance had. Spurred on by his significant other's love and encouragement, Eugene is able to acknowledge the adverse affects of his childhood on his life and start moving on. His extending a ready hand to Varian is his process of healing. Though Eugene's first priority will always be Rapunzel, he truly wants to save Varian from the uncontrollable volatility of risky decisions because he knows that downward spiral intimately.
Of course, there is a difference between thieving from the rich and planning the destruction of a kingdom. We'll get to that later.
The Girls
Tumblr media
Rapunzel and Cassandra are the biggest driving forces of narrative power in the show, and they are survivors of child abuse. Every one of the main quartet has Parent Issues, but Rapunzel takes the crown (figuratively speaking) with this one. She was kidnapped and groomed into a life-giving doll, and she was only able to escape her abusive adoptive mother through incredibly traumatizing means. For Cassandra, it was neglect, and even her loving adoptive father couldn't leviate the scars left on her childhood mind.
They're a classic case of Golden Child vs. Scapegoat, which is a common case seen in siblings raised by Narcissistic parents. When one child is "favored" more than the other, the kids experience vastly different childhoods, resulting in resentment that stems from their inability to understand each other. Rapunzel and Cassandra are both jealous of what the other had—Rapunzel wants Cassandra's casual, practiced ease with freedom and personal agency, while Cassandra wants the attention and respect that Rapunzel is given by the status of her birth. Because they're unwilling to speak candidly about the unique hardships of their childhood, what results is a series of miscommunications that put a strain on their friendship.
Cassandra and Rapunzel both want the other in their lives, but how they attempt to make that connection is very different. Cassandra wants to be a helpful, essential force in Rapunzel's life. Unfortunately, Rapunzel has been raised on the idea that when push comes to shove, no one will help her survive. Cassandra interprets Rapunzel's desire for independence as Rapunzel scorning the connection that Cassandra is attempting to create. Add in some manipulation from an ancient evil, and Cassandra decides she is done exhausting her emotions for Rapunzel.
Rapunzel, on the other hand, wants absolute honesty in her relationships. Gothel raised her on lies, so she spurns deception. But Cassandra knows the merits of protecting herself by holding her opinions in, which is where the misunderstandings occur. Rapunzel cannot trust someone who isn't completely forthright with her. She's tired of dealing with liars, and she grows afraid that Cassandra will cause her the same pain as Gothel did. But the thing is, Cassandra is not Gothel, and Rapunzel loved Gothel. She couldn't save Gothel, but maybe she can save Cassandra. It's not too late.
Rapunzel doesn't know when to give up on Cassandra because she is aware that she and Cassandra are similar people. Giving up on Cassandra would feel too much like giving up on her own hopes for a happy life. Rapunzel can't let Cassandra be unhappy. This princess cares too much, loves too hard. She never learned how to write people off because you can't survive a childhood like hers with that much cheer if you don't hang onto your optimism like a goddamn lifeline.
This is Rapunzel’s method of taking back power for herself: saving others. Rapunzel could have been Cassandra. Rapunzel is trying to believe she herself is worth saving—therefore, Cassandra must be worth saving as well. Rapunzel's significant other is giving her a stable source of love and support, but without a proper resolution to Cassandra's struggles—a final proof that despite Gothel's influence, they can both be happy—Rapunzel would feel incomplete.
The Golden Couple
Tumblr media
At the end of the day, Rapunzel and Eugene are fundamentally good people. If it comes down to it, they would be unable to sacrifice the world for their own desires. (Eugene's thievery doesn't count as an expression of true desire because it was literally his method of survival. An expression of true, selfish desire for him might've been something like manipulation and abduction for the purposes of making people stay, but Eugene is not Gothel and he would never do that to anyone in a million years.) (On a side note, Rapunzel's selfish desire might've manifested in the abandonment of all duties and personal connections in favor of eternal exploration, or revenge towards a kingdom that failed to save her, or a thorough destruction of authority figures—but she loves people too much and would never be able to forsake her family.)
Life threw a lot of rocks at them, but these two came through it marginally well-adjusted. They affirmed their love for each other in a violent, unforgettable manner, which makes it easier for them to trust in each other's affection. Eugene would've been okay with never finding his biological father, just as Rapunzel had been okay with her biological parents' inability to protect her. They have no wish to punish the world for what they suffered. They’re content with who they are. They're just glad they made it, that they're finally allowed to love someone without being afraid. They're each other's saving grace.
The Antivillains
Tumblr media
This is the difference between Hero and Antivillain: Cassandra and Varian are willing to punish the world for what happened to them. There’s a very faint line between justified retaliation and venting. In their desperation and anger, they cross the line, and they’re unable to stop themselves once they get going. Unlike the Golden Couple, Cassandra and Varian refuse to settle. They want what is owed.
Also, they really, really hate themselves. (This is important.)
Varian believes Quirin is the ultimate source of affirmation. The fact that he lost his father by way of his own dangerous experiment, coupled with the fact that no one prioritizes his call for help in the face of national disaster, is enough to make him feel isolated from the world. Though he is burdened with a growing sense of remorse for his deeds, he doesn’t stop resorting to drastic, harmful measures to get his father back until he is forcefully stopped by betrayal from his allies. He finally makes the full transition from “antagonist” to “protagonist” when Rapunzel risks herself to save Quirin from the rocks. If Quirin could not be saved, there’s a possibility Varian might have stayed an antagonist, unenthusiastic though he may have been in his villainous role. As long as Quirin is trapped in those rocks, Varian remains the villain who put him there.
With Quirin safe, Varian allows himself to take huge steps in healing. He slowly rediscovers his self-worth, one that is separate from Quirin’s approval. Rapunzel—and by extension, Eugene—play the friendly, supportive role to Varian’s ingenuity, helping him along in his quest for self-acceptance. Varian still has trouble working through the heavily ingrained self-hatred, but he recovers enough confidence in his own judgment that he takes Eugene’s warning to heart and is able to install a safety device in his father’s helmet, just in case.
This is the Varian who meets Cassandra in the Tower that once belonged to Gothel. At this point in time, Cassandra has been manipulated into thinking of herself as weak and unimportant in comparison to Rapunzel. Her adoptive father, much like Quirin, was too gruff to be vocal with approvals. Her efforts have not been met with successes. She feels like a failure, and she hates feeling like a failure. This is Cassandra’s method of taking back power: by turning herself into someone unforgettable. If she can make something of herself, she’ll finally be able to prove Gothel wrong. She can be just as special as Rapunzel, if she’s given the chance. She wants that chance.
Similar to Varian, Cassandra doesn’t stop her downward spiral until her supposed ally and mentor betrays her and forcefully takes her power away. Only when there are no options left does she allow herself to admit that she was wrong. She is then rewarded for her honesty with Rapunzel’s love and trust. Armed with a new confidence, the sisters vanquish the evil together in an epic showdown that will long be remembered. Cassandra finally gets her dramatic hero’s tale.
Rapunzel and Eugene have an internal compass that lets them make snap decisions. They don’t have the healthiest self-esteem, but they can at least stand by what they think is right. Comparatively speaking, Cassandra and Varian have terrible self-esteem. They don’t trust their own judgment and are heavily influenced by outside forces. Without the constant barrage of trust and affection from Rapunzel, who is akin to a blazing sun when it comes to personal loyalty, these antivillains might never have reached their redemptive ending. They wouldn’t have been able to let go of their twisted priorities without outside influence. Can’t blame them for it, though.
It’s no surprise that Cassandra and Varian are relatable to many people. Who wouldn’t want to reclaim what was taken from them during childhood? (Of course, the problem occurs when you start hurting others to reclaim what you lost.) Their journey is a different kind of vulnerable from Rapunzel and Eugene’s journey, and it’s extraordinary in its detail. This show is essentially a long exploration of the various ways a parent can mess you up and the coping methods of kids who want to become more than their past, which is totally up my alley of expertise. I’m grateful I got to watch them grow taller than their trauma.
Finally, here’s a parting gif of Lance, because I love him and he’s a well-adjusted ray of sunshine. We all wish we could be as mentally stable as Lance—the main quartet included.

Flower of Evil: The Breakdown of the Psyche of Baek Hee Sung
Watching episode 15 of Flower of Evil is a thrilling experience that still haunts me till this very day. We could focus on the psychological state of Do Hyun So as he hears that Baek Hee Sung kills Cha Ji Won. I could analyse it as a Romeo and Juliet base;  dreadful outcome of miscommunication and how this has been foreshadowed since the very beginning of this show. But what's even more fascinating is how the ghost of Do Min Seok is used even more as a way to showcase the breakdown of his psyche again, especially when he starts to doubt Cha Ji Won in front of him because he always believed he wasn't sane. It's a fantastic painful scene. So yeah we could focus on all that, but I want to focus again on the actual message of the show being a flower made of evil/in evil, and look at the man, the coward, the villain of this show Baek Hee Sung. His reasoning, his descent into psychopathy, and his reasons for his thirst to kill.
Tumblr media
A breakdown of the psyche of Baek Hee Sung
When we first look at Baek Hee Sung, he's found lying on a hospital bed secretly stashed inside a walk-in closet of his parents. His mum is hugely emotional and anxious about him, we can tell she holds a lot of guilt, and she's involved in his situation. His dad is there to hold her back from making mistakes, whilst also still making her feel guilty whenever she tried to actively move on and accept Do Hyun So as her family. (which she admits to him in episode 14)
Tumblr media
Baek Hee Sung lying on the bed doesn't feel as scary and whilst the clues are there that he is the missing accomplice; the reason for why the serial killings stopped after Do Min Seok committed suicide, (the day he went into a coma) and his family's need to conceal him away like a secret.  Even when he wakes up, he's still not as scary as his father who acts more coldly and heartless in situations and feels more dangerous than the guy who can't walk. It's until the audience is told he is the accomplice that things start to fall into place. The question is, why is Baek Hee Sung a killer.
Tumblr media
The Guilty Party: His Parents
I've already posted about the irony of the identity of Baek Hee Sung, how both he and Do Hyun So are mirrors of each other, foils of each other destined to intersect. Just like Hyun So was taken to therapy at a very young age for hurting animals, Hee Sung was also there because he also dropped a brick from the roof on a dog/car with people in it. He blamed it on stress, and unease from his exams, he needed to let off steam, and whilst Hyun So doesn't react or give of emotions to the therapist, Hee Sung cries and acts guilty making people think he's not someone with a disorder. Including his parents, who feel guilty for making him into one later because of neglect and stress on him to succeed as a maths wiz. This is when Hee Sung meets Do Min Seok, and he tells his parents he was coerced and forced by him into the killing.
Reasons for why his family continues to aid him into killing:
Tumblr media
The father and his neglect
The mother of Hee Sung states that from the very beginning she was the one who took care of Hee Sung, she was the one who taught him, stayed by him as he grew up. His dad was nowhere to be found because he was always working. Even in the past, when he was taken to therapy, his father wasn't at the hospital, it was his mother who knew and fully understood his character. The most important scene that is repeated is that his father refused to answer the phone when he ran over Do Hyun So and because he panicked he proceeded to try and bury him in the back yard. This is what caused the catalyst of his mother, stabbing him and realising the monster he's become. It's what drives him to be in the coma. Looking at this information and what Director Baek says, it's his guilt for not being with his son that causes him to act out if he was there perhaps Min Seok wouldn't have coerced Hee Sung if he was there or answered the phone his family would not be in the predicament they are in. His guilt is focused on ensuring his family is safe, protected and mended. Because he was not there at the beginning. From his cold attitude, and unfeeling persona about other matters, it can be assumed that he only focused on the fact that his son was a genius, and math wiz, he probably didn't think it was wrong as long as his status and reputation were good.  He believes after his son wakes up that by being by his side, he will change, he will now be part of it and control the other variables. This is what causes him to pardon Hee Sung continuously; he feels too guilty to try and stop him. (though his guilt doesn't stop him from being abusive, I guess.) He's even willing to kill to get his family protected, as long as he can manipulate someone else to take the fall. He uses Do Hyun So as physical place holder, hoping to get rid of him and return his son to that position, he even menace says that Hyun so's wife and child will end up being given to Hee Sung, and that's his goal. The father's character is three dimensional because as much as he acts cold and unfeeling, he does have one thing he cares about his son and family's reputation. This is why it can be proved as well that the environment for Hee Sung was also part of the reasons for his descent into psychopathy/murder. His father neglect that makes him more prone to following Min Seok to get attention.
Tumblr media
The mother and her guilt
Baek Hee Sung has a different relationship with his mother; he indulges her and doesn't feel angry about her trying to kill him. He coerces her into helping him and his antics because he plays as well on her guilt. Different from the father's responsibility in neglect, his mum is representative of the burden in pressure. From the start of the show, the mother reacts anxiously to any hints of pressure: she rips up Eun Ha (her fake grand daughter's) maths work because it's too ahead of her, she blames the work for the reason for why it would ruin her life and her mum's, she also questions Eun Ha if her mum hits her, or hurts her when she gets the answer wrong suggesting that Hee Sung may have been forced into the life of being a maths wiz. Her character is over-reactive, and she makes mistakes all the time. She feels guilty for pressuring him into studying, especially when in the psychiatry hospital he says it's what caused him to throw the dog from the rooftop. In her mind, the pressure they instilled on her son is what made him look for refuge and release from Min Seok.  Her guilt continues to hunt her because she reacts to the reveal of his killings by stabbing him and putting him in an extended coma. Her guilt is what makes her hide him on life support in the closet, ensuring they keep him alive, and her guilt even worsens when she finally wants to end it all (and move on) by killing him again but only making him wake up. Not only is she feeling guilty for making him a monster because of pressure, but she feels guilty for trying to kill her own son who 'was a victim of the environment'. In her mind, her husband's neglect pushed him into wanting to seek someone else in his life as a mentor, and her pressure on him to succeed caused him to break down in need of release (he killed to feel calmer/distract himself from the stress). Because of this, and the fact that her maid betrays her (she doesn't have anyone else to trust but her family) she allows Hee Sung to coerce her into framing Hyun So. In her mind, because everyone else is terrible/fake because there is no one else who will protect her but her son and her husband she decides to team with them and keep protecting Hee Sung. It's all about guilt. Both the parents feel guilt, but the immense guilt they have is not knowing the influence of Do Min Seok in their son's life.
Tumblr media
Do Min Seok and his cruelty
What Hee Sung tells his parents is that Do Min Seok forced him into the killing, he feared for his life, and so his only option was to kill. This is interesting if you do believe his perspective. We've seen Min Seok can be quite coercive as he tried to coerce Do Hyun So as well into hurting and maiming animals, he took him out on excursions waiting for potential to see if he was going to kill like him. Min Seok also approaches Hee Sung due to hearing about his incident with the brick, and he tells him that he's just like him. Reasons for why Hee Sung's parents would believe that Do Min Seok did do what their son says, is because of the cruelty of the murders,  and their refusal to accept his role in it that makes them see it as the only option/reason for why he did it.  However it is revealed that Do Min Seok did not need Hee Sung anymore once they captured Jung Mi-Sook, he wanted him to turn himself in and stop, but Hee Sung proceeded to kill him because he could no longer go back to his past life, and he now had a never-ending thirst for violence. And this brings the question why did he develop an appetite for murder?
Baek Hee Sung and his thirst for violence
Tumblr media
The father figure
It's interesting when we analyse the scene when Min Seok warns Hee Sung not to bring his son into the conversation, his desperate need to frame Do Hyun So as the murder/accomplice, and why he reacts by killing Min Seok for wanting to abandon him. The intentions from Min Seok is clear; he understands that Hee Sung won't be in trouble because his parents are wealthy enough to acquit him for his murders if they pay enough. He's not selfishly abandoning Hee Sung, but he's giving him an excuse to stop killing. This goes against Hee Sung's own claim that Min Seok was abusive and forced him into the killing.  So why is he obsessed with framing Do Hyun So. From looking at the environment/nurture, he received so far before he met Min Seok, it could be possible that just as the neglect plagued his father, Hee Sung was plagued by it too. The first way Min Seok coerces Hee Sung into joining him is to speak about them as equal, he states whilst others see it frightening and weird to understand him, Min Seok is like him, and he should find others like him, so he's not lonely. Min Seok used Hee Sung's loneliness to bring him to his side.  One might guess that from learning and being mentored by Min Seok,  Hee Sung found a father in Do Min Seok, someone who let him be himself (aided his thirst to hurt/maim) and someone who understood him.  This can then explain why he is determined to punish/frame Hyun So for the murders; jealousy.  It seems that just as much as Hyun So in the future wants to be Baek Hee Sung the most to live, Hee Sung wanted the reverse to be like Hyun So, and have someone like Min Seok who understood his urges and thirst for violence but still cared.  The jealousy of Hyun So also can explain why he reacted and killed Min Seok.  Min Seok was about to abandon him whilst trying to protect Hyun So who isn't like them. Min Seok wanted Hyun So to be like him, he waited for chances to see Hyun So will want to kill (waiting for his skills to ripe) but overall still cared and wanted to protect Hyun So even till the end. This would have triggered jealousy in Hee Sung who didn't want to go back to his environment and wanted to continue killing. He didn't want to feel controlled or judged by others, so he got rid of Min Seok and resented him for making him a murder. His longing for a father figure might have pushed him to the edge, once he felt there was no hope of ever being normal/sane, and he didn't want to be.
Tumblr media
The stress
Again breaking down the other reason for why he was prone to follow Do Min Seok and found refuge under his mentoring and presence. He killed to relieve stress and tension. This could be relieving tension of the pressure on him to succeed in his studies or the anticipation of feeling suffocated that he must wear a mask to be seen as normal. (The crying and the unnatural act he put on when he was in front of the therapist.) Do Min Seok became the alternative to all that, and he developed an addiction to killing, a sort of release from it that he enjoyed and revelled in.  He became so addicted to it, that when Min Seok tried to stop it, he lost it and ended his life. He resented being this way, but he also enjoyed doing the act. Do Min Seok represented a sort of freedom for him, one where he didn't have to pretend or hide, or feel forced to live up to expectations of others. So his reaction in killing Do Min Seok makes sense when you look at the variables, he's not just a cold-blooded killer, he had incentives and reasons for why he did so. But this brings the question: Nature vs Nurture.
Tumblr media
The nature vs nurture
What made Baek Hee Sung a serial killer, was he born with it or was he made to become it. From how he reacts to his diagnosis/mostly when he fakes emotions, it's clear he was born with a disorder (psychopathic/sociopathic), his automatic reaction was to find something else to use as an excuse, and he himself refused to believe he was one, a psychopath. Two from everything we've analysed now, he's also made to become one, from meeting Do Min Seok and learning how to kill, to enjoying it, to wanting an escape from the environment he was from. Three the question, however, is if he hadn't met Do Min Seok would he be a killer. My answer is yes, it was only a matter of time before he found something else to latch on as an excuse for killing, so it's both, the environment he was nurtured in was toxic and would have made him search for ways to find release, but also with his money/ social reputation it would have made it easy for him to get away with his murders, but also he wanted to kill. He didn't feel any emotions in hurting people, so we can argue that he would have tried and hurt someone even without the help of Do Min Seok, as a reaction to something, when he felt threatened in the world, or he felt annoyed by someone, he would have ended up one way or another finding reason to kill. So Baek Hee Sung might be a victim of circumstance, but he isn't innocent.

CORVID
...Of A Feather || Accepting
CORVID- in what ways is your muse intelligent? Are they street-smart, book-smart, etc? Do they have any interests in particular? Where is their knowledge lacking?
As a child Beth was deemed 2E or twice exceptional, a variation of being a “gifted” student. A “Twice Excepetional” student is one that is both gifted/talented enough to require advanced/supplemental curriculum, but at the same time possesses at least one learning disability/behavioural disability/physical disability. She has always possessed an extremely high intellect, one that gravitates toward maths and science, which is often considered a rarity amongst girls who traditionally display excellence in language arts and creative arts. Her level of understanding and problem-solving capabilities were off the charts, enabling her to “skip” two grade levels. Yet she often had difficulty following even the simplest, broken out verbal direction. Note-taking was almost impossible, and assigned reading aloud was a nightmare for her. She also had difficulties making or maintaining eye contact during instructional lectures. To get around these situations she would often asked to be excused to use the rest-room and would wander back to a different class, which happened to be whatever room/period Andy was in. When staff came to collect her back to her own classrooms, at first Beth would struggle, fighting the hands put on her, impulsively biting at or kicking toward the offending adult. She would be far more docile and cooperative if Andy escorted her to where she belonged. Aside from accelerated curriculum, Beth absolutely hated the time set aside for speech/language therapy and occupational therapy. Self-regulation came into play as Beth relied heavily on “local” pigin, which she continues to use now, well into her adulthood. She never outgrew her auditory processing disorder and must rely on lip-reading to keep up with casual conversation. As an adult, Beth became a voracious reader and has an incredibly large vocabulary, though she’s often disinclined to use it. She still exhibits signs of her learning disability when she misinterprets things said to her, or uses a word that sounds similar to the one she wants/means to such as allusion/illusion, leaves words out entirely, or if she is trying her hardest, has to slow down her speech and have heavy pauses as she forces her to use the correct word shape in her mouth.
She is quicker to pick up new skills and hobbies by watching someone do them rather than listening to step by step instructions.
Special Interests
Aside from the “pretty” maths {Geometry, integral calculus, physics, and such}, Beth quite enjoys anatomy/physiology, human pathology, biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics. She enjoys art history, painting and drawing with a high degree of talent in them, and has an incredible spatial awareness in regards to herself and others.
Beyond that, Beth has an exquisite emotional sensitivity which allows her to spend most of her time inside of her own head thinking and worrying about the feelings and needs of others, acting on the best of intentions for/with them, often at the expense of herself, even if she doesn’t recognise that.
Where is her knowledge lacking?
Ironically, for all that she is a people person and very much wants to be a force of kindness and good in the world, Beth fails at social engineering. She doesn’t know how to make friends easily and might come off as either too silly, too needy, or too clingy. She’s often been described as weird in the context of trying too hard, and she doesn’t understand basic concepts like personal space. She’s easily manipulated by the unscrupulous and can have her feelings completely destroyed by sheer accident, be that miscommunication or a perceived imbalance of emotion. Things that can and are exacerbated by feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, depression, and abandonment issues. And a majority of THOSE are rooted in childhood emotional neglect and pervasive racism/abuse by her father.
Because Beth does not want to dive into her own feelings, all of these things have gone largely untreated into her adulthood, which tends to sour all kinds of emotional relationships.

shadowhunters for the ask game
Oooh, the shiny! Thanks for playing *^*
Top 5 favourite characters: JACE Herondale, Magnus Bane, Lydia Branwell, Isabelle Lightwood, Simon Lewis
Other characters you like: Raphael Santiago, Bat Velasquez
Least favourite characters: Maryse Lightwood, Jocelyn Fairchild, Valentine Morgenstern. All three of them can get fucked ^-^v
Otps: uh let’s say Top 5? Magnus/Jace, Alec/Jace, Simon/Jace, Raphael/Jace, Bat/Jace
Notps: Luke/Maryse, Jace/Clary, canon Magnus/Alec
Favourite friendships: Jace & Alec, Jace & Simon, Isabelle & Clary
Favourite family: okay so that’d be my non-canon construct of Luke/Catarina being married and raising Madzie together and also Clary getting a good stepmom here. Also Jace is part of this family too because fight me on Luke and Clary accepting Jace into their family during the time they though him and Clary were blood ^-^
Favourite episodes: uuuh Blood Calls for Blood? The reveal of Jace and Clary being siblings, Imogen’s gorgeous face appearing for the first time, Lydia and Isabelle, the Jace angst with “Michael Wayland”‘s return, maybe also You Are Not Your Own because Sebastian and Imogen’s pretty faces and the great acting on the Magnus-Valentine body-switch and again lotsa Jace angst
Favourite season/book/movie: deeefinitely season 2, man. Season 2 was actually good. Like, there were still some downsides to it, but overall it was good
Favourite quotes: not really a quote-kinda-gal
Best musical moment: *blinks* sadly this show has no musical episode but good gods it sure had the chaotic energy to have one now I wish there had been an episode where a whacky spells causes everyone to sing and dance, dang
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: every time Jace and Alec get to get lost in each other’s eyes and had an actual bonding moment?? JACE MOVING IN WITH MAAAGNUS THAT ONE KILLED ME. Magnus and Jace talking on the balcony at the loft with all the kittens and in daylight, it was so nice *^*
When it really disappointed you: ...we don’t have THAT much time and like look at this, it’s already so long? So, my biggest disappointment is when they forced the kids to forgive their neglective and abusive mother because “my husband cheated on me that’s why I’m a bad mom pls pity me uwu” man I am foaming at the mouth just thinking about the shitty writing there like holy crap :D”“““
Saddest moment: shit so many, but like... inside Jace’s mind when the Owl possessed him? He was so small and broken and it hurt??
Most well done character death: nope. Like, the character deaths were... meh, at best, and frustrating at worst...
Favourite guest star: I have genuinely no idea how you define a guest star but since she is barely in episodes, Mimi Kuzyk as Imogen?
Favourite cast member: Dominic Sherwood *^*
Character you wish was still alive: IMOGEN HERONDALE
One thing you hope really happens: I mean the show has ended so there is that :D
Most shocking twist: I mean... I mean all twists were kind of REALLY predictable or foreshadowed SO HARD that they weren’t twists?? I guess the fact that they DIDN’T kill off Max was a shocking twist for me, because I know that happens in the books and I was like mentally bracing myself for it but then it didn’t happen
When did you start watching/reading?: I started watching it when it first started airing and started reading it... I think during season 2?
Best animal/creature: ...the show doesn’t have animals, which is a travesty. Creature, I guess I do like this world’s take on witches - warlocks with warlock-marks and demon-blood
Favourite location: the Institute is so cool? Old, abandoned church but super high-tech? That makes for such a stunning thing, tbh. But also the Seelie Realm is sooo pretty
Trope you wish they would stop using: miscommunication :D I swear the whole fucking way through this show they whack you over the head with characters not talking to each other, like literally the reason season 1 happens is because Jocelyn Rather Not talk to her daughter about her heritage and Luke doesn’t get to talk to her right away and it just continues through the show that characters don’t communicate to further the plot
One thing this show/book/film does better than others: uuuuuuuuuuuuuh *awkward laugh*
Funniest moments: mh...
Couple you would like to see: HELEN AN ALINE. Due to the cancellation they were crammed in there to happen within two episodes, in the background. I wish I coulda gotten a whole season of them at the Institute, slowly developing their relationship
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: okay so I REALLY wanted to see Kate Bosworth play Céline Herondale in flashbacks. I really wanted them to elaborate further on the Circle in season 3, I wanted to SEE Stephen and Céline - heck, even younger Robert, Maryse, Luke and Jocelyn. Maybe because Luke or Imogen tell Jace stories about his parents. Either way, I faceclaim Kate Bosworth as Céline because she is beautiful and blonde and has heterochromia like Dominic Sherwood
Favourite outfit: while half of Magnus’ outfits look just ridiculous, the other half looks really fucking good. Also, Jace at the Seelie Court was A Look
Favourite item: I liked the way the Mortal Cup looked
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?: I got custom funko pops of Magnus, Alec and Jace, I own the Herondale family ring, stickers and a button with Jace’s pretty face, a pillow-case with Jace’s pretty everything
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?: realistically, I would probably be a mundie. But I would want to be a warlock :D
Most boring plotline: Maryse figuring out her mundie life. Like. No thank you, not just because I dislike the character but also because the actual main characters didn’t even get to do shit beyond their romantic plotlines and I would have much rather seen some more of them doing life and shit
Most laughably bad moment: ...there are too many, I can’t...
Best flashback/flashfoward if any: I... I mean they barely ever did flashbacks. So I guess the best would be Magnus’ past, even though they were too short??
Most layered character: Don’t try to fight me on this, but Jace Herondale. He who starts out as a shallow asshole and then within a short time is established as only using those walls to protect himself after all the child-abuse. Then all the torture, mental health issues, the soft romantic, the sub. All those sides that go beyond that one dimensional asshole persona
Most one dimensional character: FUCKING OLLIE. Goodness, I loathe her. She is really just that obnoxious one dimensional prodding normal human who tries to get into the supernatural world and then acts all “oh no :O” when the supernatural comes to bite her in the ass -_-
Scariest moment: when they went all creepy with the owl
Grossest moment: there probably were, but I can’t recall right now
Best looking male: DOMINIC SHERWOOD AS JACE HERONDALE
Best looking female: MIMI KUZYK AS IMOGEN HERONDALE
Who you’re crushing on (if any): Imogen
Favourite cast moment: Dominic Sherwood being carried around by others :D I love that there are more than one male cast member to carry him around :DDD
Favourite transportation: that flying motorbike they absolutely underused...
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): visiting Idris for the first time?
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: looooooooool the list is too long
Best promo: I don’t watch promos
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: During the movie!

I was just thinking about what you said about Blake, her groveling to Yang and then Yang's parents. It really shifted my reading of their entire dynamic. I can no longer read about how it is a prime example of them overcoming their flaws for each other when the "flaws" being referred to here are actually the products of severe abuse (Blake), and abandonment and neglect (Yang). It seems wrong to call those flaws when they are more like festering wounds that need healing instead of fixing.
Part of what makes their relationship entertaining is that most of their obstacles boil down to miscommunications rooted in their assumptions of how others will react to certain words/gestures…which hinge on their own life experiences. Yang’s over there too blinded by abandonment issues to even consider alternative reasons for someone to leave her side without warning. Blake’s over there convinced the default response for any undesirable behavior is unreasonable hostility.
Then there are the different ways they communicate. Yang talks a lot, but says very little, concealing most of her true emotional state behind a facade of vacuous cheer. She mostly communicates love through physical affection, rather than words. Blake says very little, but means every word, and communicates love through acts of devotion. And it’s not that either is ignorant of this about the other because we see both of them bending to accommodate these differences over the volume. But they mostly step on each other’s toes and it’s pretty cute.
Push comes to shove though? Blake maneuvered Adam toward the road, hoping that Yang would have her back despite the delay and lack of contact (ooooh, symbolism), and Yang realized that communication failure meant Blake needed her help rather feeling disregarded. You’ve got one person who has learned that she can’t rely on anyone to help her, and a second who has come to see herself as a third wheel, both showing a bit of faith.
But overcoming those handicaps? Well, no; we saw baby steps. I expect to see a whole lot more testing of their insecurities and flawed communication strategies come v7.

You have been through a lot with your friends, and yes, while they are flawed in many ways, including yourself, you would do anything to protect them.
Even from each other.

WMaCC? Types of Characters and Backstories
Types:
Hero ~ Seen as superior/admirable to the reader, confident, no hesitations or self-doubt in actions, fantastical or powerful, doesn’t change over the course of the story because they already are at ‘peak position’ (ie. James Bond, Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes)
The Average ~ Equal/sympathetic/identifiable to the reader, relatable desires/needs and doubts/struggle to overcome obstacles {ie. McClane “Die Hard”}
The Underdog ~ Inferior to the reader (inspires the reader to feel compassion and a want to help, protect, and/or console them), an unlikely hero, outmatched and overwhelmed, handicaps and hardships, inspires admiration for their determination and suspense of outcome (unlikely success) {ie. Harry Potter, Frodo Baggins)
The Lost Soul/Anti-Hero ~  Opposite to the reader, the dark side of human nature, sometimes not immediately likable but hold a certain quality about them after reader learns about them, often the antagonist, readers sometimes see a dark part of themselves hidden in the character. Some questions that intrigue the reader are what makes the character the way they are, what motives do they have, how the character defies normal laws and social laws, identification on the alignment chart, and how they show the reader the dark side {ie. “The Godfather”)
Backstory & Wounds:
Your character’s life before the story affects their attitude, values, and personality - shapes them into who they are before the journey
Your character doesn’t just ‘start’ when your story starts; they have memories, been through events that have shaped and changed them for better or worse
History, family, education, socialization, adventures, childhood
Some characters will have wounds - past trauma that caused emotional wounds never healed and haunt the character, fears, near-death situations, a bad experience or relationship, something that makes a current event remind your character of a past event and makes them uncomfortable and scared
Victimizing Characters:
Undeserved mistreatment, injustice and contempt ~ Teasing, humiliation, mockery, embarrassment, being snubbed or passed over, prejudice, false accusation, physical brutality and violence. Abused, exploited or made to suffer, abandonment, loneliness, or neglect
Undeserved misfortune ~ Death of a loved one, loss of someone or something important or valuable, someone down on his luck, someone who has had an accident, or sheer bad luck
Physical, mental, health or financial handicaps (underdogs) ~ Physical deformity, handicap, mental illness, who are trapped by their situation or by a fear or phobia, are ugly, burdened by addiction or disease, or enduring extreme poverty or hardship
Suffering an injury ~ Injured or wounded and in pain or danger, emotionally haunted or wounded (generate empathy in the reader)
Fear ~ A secret being found out, a desperate need to achieve a certain goal. A great need that might crush your character if they fail to achieve it
Revealing weakness or vulnerability ~ Suffering pain, grief, self-doubt, fear reaching rock bottom, lost all hope
Betrayal or deception ~ Typically villain/antagonist or traitor to the hero/protagonist, but can be used to the opposite degree when the hero does it to a villain
Disbelieved when telling the truth
Exclusion and rejection ~ Need for love and belonging, unrequited love, involuntary outcasts, loners, misfits.
Regret for mistakes made ~ Shows human quality and adds relatability and sympathy to your character
Jeopardy ~ Danger (ie. of being captured, maimed, killed, arrested, caught out, exposed) bigger the danger, the greater the reader empathy
Vulnerability ~  Adds realism to tension when you show that your character can be killed, trapped, enslaved, destroyed politically or professionally, or ruined financially or socially. You’re not afraid to kill off a character if necessary, and your reader will be left worrying for your character’s safety. Vulnerability can come from the character’s own physical, mental or emotional shortcomings and conflicts as well as from the plots of the antagonist
Antagonist Backstories:
While the “Tragic Past” or simply being “evil for evil sake” is good and can still work, it’s a cliche and overused. There are multiple ways that any character, even your hero, could become the ‘villain’/antagonist.
Fear: Doing bad things because they are afraid
Gullibility/Miscommunication: They have been tricked another antagonistic character or misinformed (ie. someone who has been told the villains are out to hurt them)
Low Self-Confidence: They are told they are evil and believe it, don’t think they can break out of the cycle even if they tried, the public and hero has a certain view on them that they can’t break, etc.
Pressure: They want to change their allegiance, but are pressured by people close to them to stay evil. In some cases, the environment or the way they grew up might trap a character (ie. evil society or heritage, or they simply don’t know better because that’s how they grew up)
Desperation: They are desperate for interaction, validation, love, kindness, family, attention, an outlet, understanding, etc, and the dark side gives them those things
“Slytherin Syndrome”: A character has an otherwise noble goal that they are willing to do literally anything to achieve. Hero’s/Protagonists can fall into this same trap of sacrifices for the ‘greater good’, and stories with Slytherin Syndrome can question the line of the protagonist and the antagonist, and if one is in the right or in the wrong (remember: it’s all about perspective; your antagonist will believe they are the hero, and you can let your reader feel that way too). Examples: Somebody who wants to protect their child, even if it means throwing other children into danger. A villain trying to raise awareness and/or break free of an abusive background, even if they are viewed as a typical ‘evil for evil’s sake’ villain by others.

Kaito just laughs it off. “Sure you aren’t,” He winks at her. “Anyway, have you guys heard that weird buzzing noise in class today?”
“Yeah, it was kind of annoying,” Maki says quietly. “I wonder where it was coming from.”
Kokichi pipes up behind them. “Huuhhh? What buzzing noise? I didn’t hear such a thing!”
Shuichi winces, “Ah, yeah. There it is again. Like a fly or something that just won’t go away.”
Oh.
So he’s the annoying buzz.
-
or, kokichi gets ignored for a stupid class prank, he relapsed, and shuichi feels like the worst boyfriend in the world. (but they make up, of course.)
