AN: Hello everyone! I'm so sorry for how long this took. College has been murdering me like crazy, so this has been stuck in writing hell for a hot minute. I hope y'all enjoy and don't worry; this will probably get a part two. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
Today was the day. The day when all of NRC, and more, would gather under one roof to dance the night away. To celebrate the staff and professors that have helped them come so far… or, at least, that’s how Crowley put it.
Kalim didn’t mind that there was a party, even if it was without reason. After all, he throws them quite regularly himself! Though, he couldn’t help but ponder on exactly what this party would entail. Would they celebrate all their different backgrounds? Would there be more than the NRC students and staff? Gasping at the thought, Kalim blurted out, “Would our staff's families be there? Oh, it would be so exciting to meet them! I wonder if they also have big families?”
“Kalim, hold still. All your squirming is making it impossible for me to put on your jewelry,” Jamil sighed while grabbing the white-haired boy to hold him in place. “Just hold still for a while longer.”
Laughing, Kalim responded, “Sorry, Jamil! I just can’t help but feel a little excited. I mean, come on, aren’t you curious too? It’s been so long since we’ve had something like this, and the professors don’t talk about their personal lives that much.”
“And they don’t need to. It’s rude to pry into others’ affairs, Kalim. You of all people should know that,” Jamil stated, releasing his grip, “There, now you may move.”
Looking into the mirror, Kalim couldn’t help but beam at his reflection. He was draped in the traditional Scalding Sands yasamina silk attire and a keffiyeh, which was different from his usual headdress. Bright gold accents traced its patterns, like sand dunes that rippled and weaved throughout the fabric. As he moved to get a better look, the clothing flowed, sparkling in the light just like the fireworks from his home. Even the gold earrings, bangles, and headpiece that Jamil added gave just the right amount of shine.
“Incredible work as always, Jamil. I don’t know what I would do without you!” Kalim commended as he twirled one more time. He couldn’t help it! The way the bells and jewelry jingled and clinked together were music to his ears.
Shaking his head, Jamil watched as Kalim balanced on one leg, trying to get a better look at the stitching and bells that dangled off the robe. “Come now, Kalim. We must hurry if we don’t want to be late.”
Turning around, he did a quick glance over Jamil's attire. “Hmm, something is missing,” he mumbled with his hand lightly resting over his face in thought, "But what? Come on, Kalim. Think, think.”
His eyes lit up as a lightbulb went off in his head. He snapped his fingers before running over to the jewelry box. From there, he pulled out a stunning headpiece. It was gold with dark crimson gems adorning it. Rushing back to Jamil’s side, Kalim placed it on top of his long, dark hair. He adjusted it here and there to make sure it was just right.
“Almost there…” He muttered, tongue poking out slightly. “Got it! Now you’re even more stunning than before.”
"Alright, alright. Thank you. Now let's go,” Jamil paused as he grabbed the invitations, “We don't want to make a bad impression on people you haven't even met yet.” He nudged Kalim lightly to get him moving.
Feeling the nudge caused something to spark in Kalim; in a matter of seconds, he was grabbing Jamil’s hand. Booking it out the door with a panicked Jamil right behind him, they ran down the halls of Scarabia. Their bells and jewelry jingled, alerting the other students still lingering in the halls. The others realized that, if their housewarden and vice housewarden were rushing, they must be running behind.
Exiting the dorm, they noticed that the sun was already on the verge of setting. “Shoot! Doesn’t the party start at sundown?!” Kalim panicked, briefly looking back at a ruffled and panting Jamil.
Jamil couldn’t utter a single word; he just nodded as he tried to catch his breath. Sadly, Kalim had other plans as he started running again with Jamil in tow. In record time, they were outside the hall. Jamil fixed his outfit before handing their invitations to the bouncers at the door. With an approving grunt, the door opened before them.
Sounds of all kinds started flooding into the open air. Music, laughter, even the distant mumbling of conversation could be heard. The hall itself was breathtaking: marble gleaming in gold and bathed in shades of maroon with swaths of periwinkle fabric hanging below the baluster. The candles on the grand chandelier glowed a magnificent orange as the shiny floor reflected its radiance and glory. Even the night sky that shined through the windows complemented the ballroom hall elegantly, as the stars added just the right twinkle to the scenery.
As he examined the room, Kalim noticed the staff standing off to the side. They all seemed to be mingling and talking among themselves.
Too preoccupied with watching the professors, he didn’t even notice that Jamil had rejoined him after talking to the guards. “We should go pay them our respects, before continuing on with the night,” Jamil spoke softly to the boy, “After all, it would be quite rude not to greet the guests of honor.”
Humming in agreement, Kalim started approaching the professors. “Good evening, sirs! I hope you are all enjoying the event so far,” he said, bowing to them.
The group in front of him smiled at him. Trein nodded his head, “Indeed we have, for the night has been plenty eventful so far.”
Chuckling at his statement, Crewel shakes his head. “You’re only saying that thanks to a certain pup. After all, you’ve been watching over them like a hawk all night.”
Trein’s expression shifted into a terrifying glare; one that would send most students crying for their mothers. Although, just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone. He let out a small cough before continuing, “Well, yes, you can never be too careful, especially in a school full of riffraff like someone I know. But that’s neither here nor there now, is it?”
Rolling his eyes, Crewel turned to the two boys. “You two pups should scurry off now. I’d hate for this old coot to hold you up.”
Nodding, the two boys bowed one last time to their professors. Turning to one another, Kalim beamed. “Jamil, I’m going to head on over to the dance floor! Care to join me?” He asked while pointing at the floor.
The dark-haired boy shook his head lightly. “Not yet. I’m going to see what they have at the buffet first,” Jamil said softly, “You’re more than welcome to go on without me.”
Still smiling, Kamil nodded. “Got it! I’ll see you later then!”
And with that, he made his way to the floor. Once there, he let his body flow with the rhythm, allowing every little note to guide him. Eventually, the song came to a close. Some left the dance floor while others joined the crowd. Excited to hear what was next, he bounced in place. His eyes darted around the room, until his ruby gaze landed on them.
Instantly, everything around him seemed to fade. There, standing a few feet in front of him, was a young person around his age. They were adorned in a beautiful pale blue, almost silver, suit. The suit had a long train draping from the blazer, giving it the illusion of a dress. The fabric moved gracefully with their body, like waves that sparkled under the starlit night. He just stared in awe as they started to dance. Their movements never missed a beat as they moved across the floor. It wasn’t long till Kalim noticed that the dance originated from the Scalding Sands. That, and how they executed it so flawlessly. It was by no means easy, as each step had to be perfectly timed. One wrong move, and the whole dance would unravel. As he watched, their eyes eventually met. They bewitched his very soul as his heart pounded against his chest. Their eyes sparkled with mischief as they performed the finishing move, the music stopping right as they finished.
Kalim blinked a few times, trying to regain his bearings. He felt his body move as he frantically looked for the dancer. He needed to get their name. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he didn’t. Then, right in the nick of time, he spotted them. They were making their way off of the floor. Without a second thought, he ran over to them and grabbed their wrist. He held it tightly as he looked at them.
“Wait! What’s your name? I just have to know before the night is over!" Kalim exclaimed.
Shocked at his question, you couldn’t help but stare. He wanted to know your name? Of all the things he could have cared about tonight. You smiled and, right as you were about to respond, Professor Trein called out for you.
“Coming, father!” You responded before turning back to Kalim, “I apologize, but I must be off. It was a pleasure to talk with you tonight. Goodbye.”
The way you said it was so bittersweet to Kalim’s ears as your hand slipped from his. He could only watch as you disappeared into the crowd to reunite with your father, Professor Trein.
“Oh, Jamil isn’t going to like this,” he muttered before going to find the young man.

Since getting back into bakugan and being influenced by spooky month I have had the following brainworm. Professor Clay murder au.
Details of the following au:
-Professor Clay murdered his wife while Spectra/keith was 3 and mira was 6 months old
-He hid her body in a secret location in the house because "He wanted her to stay with him" and also she was smarter than him and that fueled his inferiority complex.
-Somehow one of his kids stumbles upon her body while revisiting their childhood home, Mira makes the most sense based on her writing.
-Bakugan can see ghosts that's how Mira found her mother's corpse.
-This causes Mira to start planning her father's death.
-Mira doesn't tell her brother what happened or what she discovered because she wants to protect him
-Mira doesn't tell anyone, but asks Gus to never let Keith/Spectra be alone with her father, to which he confusingly agrees to.
-Mira attempts to murder her father while with vexos via food allergies but fails
-After Mira reunited with the resistance she told nobody about what she did, but her brother and Gus found out.
-Spectra/Keith was intrigued that Mira did what she did but ultimately decided to leave it alone, Gus on the other hand was frightened and thinks Mira might try again and try to kill Spectra/Keith this time.
-Once he gets better Professor Clay has no inkling to why Mira attempted to kill him
-Eventually it all olccumulated to Mira lashing out that reveals the truth. She was surrounded by her resistance friends and vexos enemies and her father was confronting her out of curiosity. Mira then confessed to what she found.
-Haven't worked out everything yet so this fic idea ends here.
Other details
-Professor Clay's wife had blonde hair and her favorite color was red. She was a smarter scientist than Professor Clay and that made him insecure enough to eventually murder her.
-Professor Clay murdered his wife by drugging her food then strangling her.
-Keith/Spectra doesn't remember much about his mother, but he remembers how her eyes would light up whenever talking about a project she was working on.
-Both Mira and Keith/Spectra will have an emotional/mental breakdown in this story, just not sure when
-As far as Mira is concerned Professor Clay is a monster that needs to be eliminated.
-Spectra subconsciously modeled his appearance after his mother.
-Gus is down for murdering Professor Clay, out of fear for Spectra/Keith's safety and for justice for the woman who had her life stolen from her.
Anyone who has suggestions or is inspired by this idea feel free to message me because I need someone to talk to about this fanfic idea.
Shoutout to @marukrawler and @tururuturi for their amazing posts and art for reintroducing me into the bakugan fandom.
