the quiet was eerie. everything felt too still as if time froze and you were the only one to notice the change in your environment. it was like you just lost the ability to hear anything besides your own body.

everything was so loud just moments ago. shouting of commands, the breathing in your twitching ears, the sudden onslaught of bullets and arrows raining hell upon your captive form along with the three sully children and their human companion.

your heart was pounding in your ears but your instincts kicked into gear and you kicked and bit the sky demon and ran deep into the forest with the others, hands tied in front of you and legs pushing you further into the trees.

it all stopped when you toppled into another body, one you weren’t sure of being friend or foe so you struggled in their strong grip. their arms caging you against their chest and you could feel the tears stinging against your eyes and the choked feeling growing in your throat, your screams showing your growing fear. only when you felt the barest touch along your cheek and the gentle whispers of comforting words did you stop your fighting. the tears only flowed faster.

“mawey yawne. mawey.” (calm beloved. calm)

neteyam’s soothing voice sang within your ears and deep within your brain. a hand petting your braids atop your head, even digging his fingers to feel your scalp. his other hand pressed to your back, making your chest flush with his, encasing the both of you in a reality check.

you were alive. you escaped. he saved you. his family was safe.

and all that led to now. you sitting on the floor of your small mauri, eyes focused on nothing before you with your body hunched over your crossed lap. hands mindlessly picking at skin and twisting or bending fingers, or a knee bouncing to an unknown sound only you can locate. even a small rocking motion came upon your body, it was like you were in a fixed trance.

his arms being wrapped tight around your shoulders stopped all functions. slowly you realized what was happening and sluggishly you moved your arms securely along his waist, a firm tug to pull him impossibly closer. your faces tucked into the crooks of each other's necks, deeply inhaling the other scents, feeling the movement of your chest as you breathed in and out.

“neteyam…” your lips brushed his skin, and you gave a tremble to his name. he shushed you, his nose rubbing against your pulse point. his lashes a light tickle on your neck just below your jaw. “focus on your breathing first. your heart putters like that of a hummingbird's wings.”

neteyam pulled away and you started to panic, but all he did was place a hand against your heart and he tugged one of yours to do the same, “follow my heart. listen to my breathing. calm and steady.” you closed your eyes to just focus on the thump thump thump of neteyam’s steady heart.

when you felt relatively calmer, less jumpy you peeled your closed eyes open and stared directly into neteyam’s clouded golden orbs. they looked to be shadowed by different emotions, only one you can see at the top of his emotional surface. anger.

a hand limply touched his cheek, just a ghostly sweep of your fingertips. and before you could move further or speak, fast-paced steps echoed against the cave walls and entered your mauri. kiri walked forward with a woven basket of herbs and salves but stopped short when she looked up from the floor to the two of you still seated in front of each other, neither moving away only straying your eyes to her.

“oh, uh… sa’nu and sempu (mom and dad) sent me to fix any wounds. grandmother is busy with others.” she shuffled on her feet, noting the heavy air.

neteyam stood up and walked over to his sister, taking the basket into his hands, “i shall mend her wounds. stay with tuk and lo’ak, make sure they are okay.” he gave a squeeze to her right bicep and she nodded to the both of you before walking away.

neteyam moved quietly as he worked preparing the paste that would keep any cuts from getting infected and set aside the herbs for wrapping or for swelling bruises. you just watched as he kept his head and eyes down focused, mouth pulled into a thin, tight line showing he was keeping words to himself.

“neteyam… please don’t keep thoughts to yourself. tell me what troubles your mind.” a hand resting on his knee.

his movements stilled and you thought he was about to open up, but instead he mumbled lowly, “this might sting,” and he scooped the thick yellow paste onto two fingers and slathered the medicine along a long and red cut to your forearm. you flinched in his hold, eyes shutting tight with your fingers closing into fists and your breath sucked in through your teeth.

you heard the mumbled “sorries” and felt his hold that was firm but his fingers were delicate. he moved from the cut on your bicep to a cut along your collarbone. the sting wasn’t there as he worked so you focused your attention back on him, needing to hear his voice and thoughts.

“‘teyam, please. i-i know what happened was scary, but not talking to me is worrying me more. it was not our intention to get taken hostage by the demons, they caught us off guard as we were exploring, and- and i know we… yes we went to an area that was off limits. but- but everything was cleared and when i started to get worried i told them we needed to leave and that’s when they arrived, and that’s when we had lo’ak call in.”

neteyam just worked, not stopping to look at you or speak with you, his eyes stayed on your damaged skin. it was making you frustrated. you didn’t mind his silence usually, but it was always a welcomed silence when both of you just wanted to soak up the other’s presence, this was an angered silence. he was giving you the silent treatment.

“neteyam te suli tsyeyk’itan i do not appreciate this silence. i would rather have you yell at me than ignore me as i am trying to talk to you. i know you have some words dancing on your tongue just waiting to be spewed in my face, well speak them.” you jerked away from his gentle touch and you missed it, but he was hurting your heart.

he stayed on his knees, head bowed as he stared at his hands, palms facing the sky. his braids closed off his face, his emotions that you usually could read like an open book, but now he was a clouded sky that wouldn’t let the sun shine through.

your lips trembled and eyes watered, your arms covering your stomach as a protective blanket from this vulnerability. “when i was being choked by their hand around my throat and my queue being tugged harshly, i thought i was to die in that moment. they held knives at each of us, ready to stab if we were to make any move to freedom. and- and as the night crept upon us as they waited for your sempul (father) so they could kill him along with us, i just thought of you. thought of your smile and your comforting laughter that i have to wrangle from you most of the time because you can be too stubborn for your own good. how i would miss the touch of your fingers on my skin, rubbing circles into my hips or caressing my cheeks as we gazed lovingly into each other's eyes. how there were so many words i have yet-“

“i could have lost you! you could have been killed long before we arrived to help! i would stumble upon your lifeless body! do you not know how that would completely break me apart? i wouldn’t be able to live without you, without your soothing words and quiet company. i- i would want to die right with you, even if it hurt my family…i wouldn’t- your loss would just rip my heart out of my chest and completely tear it to shreds.”

his words shrieked loud like a ikran’s cry within your eardrums. your whole body stopped moving and you stood motionless, the air stolen from your lungs and your heart forgetting its automatic beating. your arms fell from their protective hold on your stomach before your feet carried you back to neteyam, knees crouching to the ground. with a hand, you tucked it under his chin and pushed his head up to make proper eye contact and that’s when your heart completely broke in your chest.

his usual glowing irises were surrounded in a red hue from the running tears that left stains under his eyes and along his cheeks. thumbs jumped into action and swiped away the pain that this situation has caused him, you hated seeing him so stressed and worn out.

“ma ‘teyam… i hadn’t meant to put us- put you in this type of position. i never want to be the cause of pain for you and- and i know this whole problem could have been avoided if- if i was a bit stricter with lo’ak and his impulse decisions. but we must now focus on our present.” you connected your foreheads together, thumbs still running over his cheeks.

neteyam wrapped his hands around your wrist, his nose bumping into yours, “i’m supposed to protect you, protect my family and i have failed my purpose.”

“no neteyam. your sole purpose isn’t to be a protector… well actually kinda is- anyway, what- what i am trying to say is. you cannot save everyone neteyam, sometimes Eywa chooses whose life ends if it keeps the balance.”

小红书 (also referred to as xiaohongshu or XHS) is a Chinese image-based social media platform. It is a combination of the feed, likes, shopping, and video aspects of instagram, with the ~aesthetics~ and majority female audience of pintrest. I've grown really fond of it and found that it's algorithm is better than instagram and MUCH better than pintrest with giving me content I enjoy.

Both men, now grey with age, took a long moment to stare at one another. Though their bodies had wrinkled and ached, their spirits could still be seen within their eyes. Bilbo's nearly welling with tears in this moment. As when he looked to Fili, he seen Thorin. Fili had done honor to the Durin name as he stepped up to take the throne after his uncles tragic death.

"Do come in, come in-" Bilbo snapped from his daze and gestured to Fili to enter his home.

"What do I owe this visit?" Though Bilbo didn't need to ask, he knew why he came.

Over the years it had become common for Fili to randomly show up at Bilbo's door. At first Bilbo didn't understand. It didn't take long for Bilbo to catch on that Fili comes to him, to his home, for comfort. There was solace within the Baggins home where all those many years ago the dwarfs gathered at his table, ate, drank, sang tunes and discussed a dream.

" Can I not visit an old friend without being questioned?" Fili chuckled lightly, the light hearted gesture never quiet reaching his eyes.

Truth was, Fili was growing tired. His mind often wandered, his heart ached to be reunited with his bother and uncle once more. He often found himself wishing it was Kili who lived. Who took the throne and got to continue his life, he could have done it with grace. He would have lived on easily. Where Fili did not live, but dragged on. The weight heavy on his shoulders.

As the Dwarf King stepped further into the Hobbits home, his steps faltered at the dinning room. It looked the same, Bilbo never changed it. And Fili could practically see all the dwarfs gathered around the table, he could hear them. Hear his brothers laughter as he tossed a bread roll across the table and at his head. He could envision his uncle watching them with the smallest of grins himself as he ate. He could hear Thorins deep voice singing a tune of their people as it echoed throughout the home-

"Of course you can." Bilbo patted Fili on the back as he gestured to the sitting room. "Though I wish you'd send me a letter before, it's a long journey to the shire. What if something happened to you along the way? Hm?" Bilbo muttered, practically scolding the King as Fili took a seat on his sofa.

Fili didn't mind a scolding, it actually warmed his heart. In a way, he had started looking to Bilbo as family, almost like an uncle.

"Yes, yes, you are right." He chuckled, this time with more feeling behind it, his lips twitching into the smallest of smiles.

"Here- " Bilbo came back into the room with two tea cups of freshly made tea, taking a seat across from the dwarf.

Fili sipped his tea, both sitting in the silence for a long moment. Though Fili couldn't sit in the silence to long, he thoughts would only grow louder and louder until they drove him mad.

"I miss them, Bilbo..." Fili sighed, sitting his tea down on the small table beside him.

"I know. I miss them as well..." Bilbo's tone was low, his eyes dipping down to watch the soft ripples in his tea after to took a long sip.

"It's been 60 years." Fili took a pause, running a hand through his golden mane. "60 years without them... I'm growing tired, Bilbo."

He didn't need to voice that for Bilbo to see, he could tell by the droop of the dwarfs shoulders and the way his hair no longer shinned as it once did.

"I am going to pass on the crown." Fili spoke again, his voice more stern and serious now. His eyes glowing with a new found determination and ... peace.

"I am going to pass on the crown and relive our journey once again. Walk the same path as I once had with my kin."

"Fili- " Bilbo started though his words died on his tounge as he seen a twinkle in Fili's eyes he hadn't seen in a long time. He knew the dwarfs mind was set.

"Once the journey has finished, my mind will be free and I can meet my brother and uncle in peace..." Tears beaded in Fili's eyes as he spoke.

Bilbo clutched his tea cup tightly between his fingers, the china nearly trembling.

"Starting here, I take it?"

The dwarf smile sheepishly as he nodded. "Starting here." He repeated.

After their talk, it was time for Fili to leave along his journey. Bilbo stood at his old green door as he bid him a farewell. His chest felt heavy and his stomach churned as he watched him go. He knew there would be no more unexpected visits from the Dwarf King, he was loosing another...

My art year in review!

I learned so much this year and made a ton of cool stuff! These are my favorites from each month, but it was so hard to choose. A lot of stuff didn't even get posted--I'll be sure to at least post the ones that made it to this list!

It's amazing to see how much I've changed and learned over this year, and to see the things that are emerging as part of "my style."

Here's to another year of delight, creation, connection and fun!

Some monthly reflections beneath the cut, but here's the highlights:

I participated in 3 art challenges, Artfight, OC-tober and Huevember.

I made fanart for the first time!

I created a piece I conceived of before I started drawing

Made some big breakthroughs in techniques and skills in April, July and November

January: My first branch into full character design, Rodd is the culmination of training on Hero Forge renders to make dnd portraits! I was doing this cool thing with neon rim lighting, I should bring that back!

February: I saw a piece on here with this amazing glowing effect, so I color picked it and experimented to figure out what relationship between the colors was making it do that! The answer was saturation. This rose is meant to be glowing from within, and I think I did a good job for my knowledge level at the time! As Chuck Tingle would tell us, it's beautiful because only I could have made it in that moment on the timeline.

March: I spent a million years on every detail of this one, it has at least 5 clipping overlay/saturation layers for lighting, multiple line work groups and I want to rework that background but! I never felt more accomplished than I did when I finished this one. I learned a lot, especially about things I could skip or simplify. And the symbolism really pops off ngl

April: I read Gideon the Ninth for the first time this month and I immediately needed to draw Jeannemary Chatur, Cavalier of the Fourth House, the worst teen to do it. She's the first fanart I ever made and posted! I also discovered a new pen tool with this one, which CHANGED THE GAME.

May: This one is an idea I had written down before I ever picked up the tablet and stylus. I thought I might commission someone to make it, the image of it came to me so clearly during our VTM session I just had to make it real somehow. Well I did it! This is one I will come back to redraw in like 5 years bc I love the concept so much. Also rife with symbolism and inside nods to the Low Kings.

June: I made a bunch of ref sheets in the run-up to Artfight in July. Caleb hadn't even been in my plans to upload, but I had time and inspiration! I will be uploading this and a few more of him <3

July: This is one of my faves from Artfight! This character is Blueberry, by way of OrchidEatsBread on artfight. I have still never played... rainworld? But I love me a slug cat. In July I drew a TON of people, it really drilled anatomy basics into me and how to get clothes looking like actual clothes a bit more. Also solidified some things I would consider "my style" at the moment, like no irises, and my approach to noses and mouths and fingers!

August: Another fanart for the Locked Tomb series, I never posted this!!! Will be rectifying that soon.

September: I got really into javascript and css this month, and I made this to be a landing page image on my neocities website XD I'll get back around to that eventually...

October: At the last minute, I discovered OC-tober and the prompts from @/bweirdart, a worthy follow up to the rush of Artfight two months previous. I developed so much stuff for the Low Kings, including this drawing/character, Amayah/Girl-Z, who has been a figment of my pintrest board for 2+ years.

Huevember: Chasing that OC-tober high, I found Huevember! I did not expect to actually do every day, but it proved to be an amazing exercise! I learned so, so much about color, discovered amazing new brushes and techniques and found I really enjoy working in those one day capsules! I loved a lot of the stuff that came out of this month, including my highest note post ever!!!, but this one is still my phone background and I'm maybe developing an OC world around it. We'll see what happens in 2024.

December: I got hit HARD with the writing bug this month, so this was my only choice for this month but I WOULDA CHOSEN IT ANYWAY. I unlocked something here that I'm really excited to visit again, in fact I'm working on a companion piece rn! This is also fanart btw, prepare for me to get even weirder about this guy in the coming months.

DANCE MAJOR XIAO seeing fleur!reader dancing with eula and its either he’s very impressed or very disappointed. either way he finds himself wanting to dance with reader one-on-one :) it can be to help her improve (if it sucks) OR to have fun coming up with random choreography with her (even tho he tells her no its not for fun she just has a lot of ideas and is creative and hes taking advantage of it so he can come up with stuff for 4NEMO music videos. to which she goes “aw xiao u just called me creative and complimented me”)

also i saw that one thing where you responded to an ask about 4NEMO’s conversion to 5WIRL and i raise to you: venti, aether, xiao and kazuha getting increasingly more talented in their respective roles in 4NEMO because theyre petty about heizou being talented in all of their categories/being the jack of all trades :)

in venti’s case he doesn’t even try to hide it 😭 like heizou will pull up some new ideas for songs and the next day out of NOWHERE venti pulls up a forty-two page google doc filled with song ideas, music video concepts, and like. budgets? and links to pintrest boards hes made about them?

for aether he feels kinda bad about getting competitive about it bc they’re teammates + rlly good friends come on man but also he’s like “but see you will also improve if you do this, so technically its in the best interest of the entire group. plus….. impressing y/n” (in the end he just gives in cause he is a fucking simp just wants to better himself there’s nothing wrong w that right?) he’s obvious because he’s. eager :’)

xiao is probably the second most obvious one about it because of his whole angsty emo dance major act. what do u mean heizou’s already come up with the rest of the dance?? no, no see he’s done stuff too ok he’s come up w some stuff too look. no look at this. what do u MEAN hes jealous? he is NOT. he is not petty or. or. u know what whatever just come listen to what he has to say about heizou’s ideas if u wont listen to his own >:( (in the end more than half of heizou’s moves r scrapped and xiao Wins)

kazuha is probably the most subtle about it? he’s kinda like venti ish because heizou will come up to reader one afternoon with some random lyric ideas and concepts that he wants kazuha to help him with but kazuha doesnt know that now does he and then the following days after kazuha overhears their exchange the reader is handed a few ideas. it starts off with a few poems scribbled on scrap paper kazuha thinks would be good for a song until it escalated into there being an entire drawer in the readers desk filled with his musings and concepts and ideas and 😭

Heizou definitely deviates more towards these two solely because they don't feel as dangerous as the cousins LMAO.

My rambling of information i will give is uneven as sand!

BeeKeeperer 'As much as merchant jobs are looked down upon, honey endeavours of illagers who want to keep bees and keep flowers are the exception... ' This profession among illager units is a lot more diverse when it comes to bees. As an example with BeeKeeperer housing Vulture bees to make honey jerky with cow blood. But never pigs blood! as cannibls use it as a substitute, seeing it as a bad omen and a path to unrighteousness. {Country unnamed but they live in an active political fued only personal to the council.} Their was an incident that happend during a winter storm, far less worse but destructive in flinging a whole tree- so yeah, less worse. Shattered glass and the rose dyed snow. Attracting a villager nearby, whos from the path of fox traps, {Whoever put those their}... They were pretty terrafied, and were so scared of being seen by the eyes of a cannibal from noted interviews of another more cooperative cannibalism of Pirana Village 'They love the nickname so much they kept it?' They do look a lot like their father, and their skinn shows their moms invisible stripe color pattern. I found this to be a cool idea when podzel was generated to me. Along with the metaphors ^^ I love the idea of wearing their dads trench coat, it made them blend in, if only for their clothing. They might be a more, grazed by presence if they werent good at being quite when they can. Others wouldnt notice that, they all assume Podzel show up into the room. They make their presence know with one sentance and they can immiditly leave, "You haven't stayed their for very long" Their mothers speach starts soft, and thats when they knew a crabs pincer would be better. As long as they dont have to get picnhed on sand, the smooth rocks that touchs the waters foam, is always so much better.

My writing abilities for creating my characters, with care and understanding. Since I did just create them I haven't really had a chance to hurt them more than whatever job they already have to imply that.. Like death, or wearing a mask due to a traumatic incident along with letting bees sleep on you like cats and getting poisoned. I did this all in 4 days, i would've written it all up but i noticed i might get burn out so i risked another day where i might lose my hyper fixation, and all my ideas... You can i had a lot of fun rambling. But I wont put myself to a high expectations. Loved naming conventions, might rename or have to give my ocs names. Whiiich, i made my beekeeper name jerky and like illusinor jasper in the codes, both seemed uniqe proffesions of beast taming and the other of illusionist arts that its named after them! I like that idea a lot, And maybe it meets the way they handled their profession is uniqe, Blood and a Rock... Lol you i'm making this up as I go <3
