Jaune The Black Knight

An AU where Jaune and Ruby decided to say Fuck the world, got married after going rogue (they left Beacon after being betrayed by their friends) and had a daughter together named Olivia.

Salem was watching everything through her Grimm and decided to personally invite them to join her faction in turn they will get their revenge. With nowhere else to go they accepted now Ruby leads a battalion of Grimm with Jaune as her Second in Command.

And yes Salem cares about these two adorkable couple and vowed to never let anyone hurt them ever again.

I have baffled long enough, let's get this show on the road.

This particular day Salem ordered for Ruby to get some needed rest after capturing a few villages in her name, Jaune got up from bed and got ready for another day of spreading fear around the world

He showered, brushed his teeth, puts on his black armor, his wife changed Crocea Mor's color scheme, instead of a white shield it's now black with a gold outline and their combined family symbol, instead of a blue hilt it's now blood red, instead of a silver blade it's now a black sword (like the one Sokka made from Avatar the Last Airbender)(As for Jaune's armor, it's the Rusted Knight armor but it's polished and the color is black and gold, helmet included)

Jaune walks into the kitchen where his wife made him some food to go, he grabbed the bag, kissed his wife and turned to leave when suddenly his wife stopped him

Ruby: Wait Jaune, do you know what day it is?

Jaune: Uh... Wednesday?

Ruby: No dummy it's take your daughter to work day!

Jaune: Uh I don't think it's a good idea to bring our daughter to our kind of work, at least not yet.

Ruby: I know, but she has been wanting to come with us for a while and since it's take your daughter to work day I figured now is the best time, plus she'd have my big strong dark knight as her protector~.

Jaune: Well yeah but-

Ruby caressed his face: Jaune you RoseArc-promised.

Jaune sighed: I did didn't I?

3 Hours Later

The scene shows a metal door to one of Atlesian's military bases exploded with Jaune rushes in while holding his daughter's hand but hit his head on the top of the door-way

Jaune holds his head for a second before activating his shield protecting his daughter amd himself from the bullets from the AK's

Jaune: Keep your head down Olvia!

Olivia holding a stuffed Ursa toy: Okay daddy-Whoa!

Jaune quickly dragged Olivia to cover but Olivia lost grip of her best friend.

Olivia: MR. CUZZYBOTTOM!!!

Olivia was about to run out to grab her friend but her father stopped her

Jaune looked down to his daughter and saw her pointing at her stuffed animal which is laying on the ground near the Atlesian Knights

Jaune sighs and looks at Olivia: I'll get him, you stay here where it's safe.

Jaune rushes out of cover, raised his shield and charged at the robot knights

Jaune quckly cut and sliced through the knights, grabbed the toy and rushed back to his daughter

Jaune out of breath and his daughter her toy: Here you go baby.

Salem: Who's the little girl?

Jaune nervous: Oh Lord Salem! Uh... it's bring your daughter to work day and uh I'm sorry for bringing, but my wife says we barely had time to spend together and let's be honest she's right, okay she's right!

Salem:...

Jaune even more nervous laughs a bit: Do you have kids? Cause heh I mean they change your world.

Salem:...

Jaune facepalms and mutters: Ugh I'm probably gonna get either fired or killed for this but... Fuck it.

Jaune grabs his daughter's hand: I love my daughter!

Salem brought her fist to her chest and smiles a bit: That really hits me where I'd live.

Salem noticed a survivor and used her powers to grab his neck

Salem: What have you done with those plans!? Jaune here never gets time to spend with his daughter because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!

Salem snaps the survivor's neck and quickly realized there was a child present

Salem raised her other hand to her mouth: I'm so sorry you had to see that.

Salem drops the body

Salem kneels down to Olivia's eye level: Are you having fun being at work with your father?

Olivia gets nervous because she doesn't like talking to strangers and hides her face behind her father's leg

Salem chuckles: I know I'm pretty scary.

LATER IN MENAGERIE

Jaune was holding his daughter's hand as he and a White Fang goon was patroling a town looking for their targets when suddenly they come across an old man (Ozpin) wearing a hood with Weiss, Blake and Yang behind him also wearing hoods

Jaune stops them: Hold up you all seem familiar.

Ozpin uses his magic: These are not the students you're looking for.

Jaune: These are not the students we're looking for.

Olivia: Yes they are.

Ozpin: Move along

Jaune: Move along!

Ozpin and the three bitche- uh I mean students moved along going into the tavern for intel

Olivia: Daddy, You're not even trying!

Jaune: Honey, It's 110 DEGREES IN THIS CONTINENT!!! I CAN'T HEAR IN THIS THING!!! *points at his helmet* I WAS JUST REPEATING WHAT I THOUGHT THE GUY WAS SAYING! IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S MY OWN MOTHER FUCKING THOUGHT IN THE MATTER, OKAY!?

Olivia runs off crying and Jaune realized what he had done

Jaune feeling guilty and runs after his daughter: HONEY!!!

Heres an AU idea Evil Ruby seduces Jaune to join the dark/grimm side

Jaune stood stoically as he felt the woman's hand glide over his chest, refusing to see her as the sweet Ruby he once knew. Her skin was pale, whiter then snow and her once sliver eyes were now black.

Ruby:Why... why do you still resist me?

He doesn't answered, only grunting as she shove him to the ground and straddles him, staring deep into his eyes.

Ruby:Aren't you tired? Tired of fighting for a world that will never appreciate you?

Jaune:It's my duty. The real Ruby-

She interrupted him by grabbing his cheek between her fingers.

Ruby:The Huntress and Huntsman were useless. Atlas was useless. Salem was too weak to take actual Join me Jaune. Help me take over the this world for true peace.

Jaune falters a bit, a bit unsure. Ruby saw this and couldn't help but smirk leaning closer to jaune still their forehead were touching.

Ruby:You said you love me. That you do anything for me right. An arc keeps his word. So join me. Help me take this world by storm.

She kisses him, and Jaune doesn't push back letting himself be taken by Ruby. The world wouldn't survive long with them two of them working together.

Theory: Whiteknight ship baiting is part of Knightfall... not coping

New year, new day, new piece of pro Knightfall propaganda, this time laced with bit of copium. This is gonna be relatively short one.

First of all, let's get obvious explanation of it out the way: Whiteknight ship baiting from last 2 volumes is not part of Knightfall.... it's you know... part of Whiteknight. It's not some kind of 360 IQ plan that ends in completely different outcome, it's just straightforward romantic relationship.

Now with sanity out the way, let's get back to Knightfall. Why would Whiteknight ship baiting be part of Knightfall? It's simple, it works well with both Cinder's and Jaune's primary literary influence.

How it factors in Cinderella story is more obvious. Throughout her childhood, Cinder is slave of Atlas, while Weiss is its golden child. From Cinder's perspective Weiss represents everything wrong with Atlas and everything she feels she was denied during her childhood. This would make Weiss play a role of Cinder's stepsister. And of course, Cinderella's stepsister desires Prince (Jaune and Ruby are most Prince like characters in Cinder's story), but in the end Prince chooses Cinderella.

However, there just as obvious counterpoint: Cinder plays a role of Evil Queen in Weiss' Snow White story (both being vain older female characters, envious of Snow White and repeatedly trying to kill her). So if perspective is flipped from Cinder to Weiss, then Cinder is gonna lose in the end and Weiss is gonna have a happy ending with her Prince (who once again is seemingly Jaune shaped).

So, what to do now? Well, we check the Prince's perspective, that is, check if there is anything of sort in Joan of Arc story. For the sake of the argument, I'll avoid using my Joan of Arc/Indecisive King theory: That screams Knightfall, but I wanna observe this in vacuum. I'll link it below if you wanna check it out.

So, anyways, back to Joan of Arc story. After her village was burned for the second time, Joan and her family flee to the town of Neufchateau. There she meets a suitor who claims she promised herself to him. Joan denies that ever happened and rejects the suitor, defying the wishes of her family. Instead she continues her mission of getting an audience with king Charles VII.

So, why do I look at this and see failed Whiteknight? Few reasons.

Timeline placement. This event takes place after Joan's village was burned for the second time. While first time villagers were unprepared and lost pretty much everything, second time they evacuated themselves and their belongings in time, preventing most of the damage. In RWBY this translates to Fall of Beacon and Atlas. While they were caught off guard at Beacon, in Atlas, they managed to evacuate most of the citizens via relic created portals. Villagers took refuge in Neufchateau, similar to how everyone was evacuated to Vacuo. Most of the ship baiting takes place in volumes 8 and 9 and will probably continue in Vacuo portion of the story. So timeline wise that matches.

Weiss fits best as the suitor. Why do I think that? Why Weiss and not quite literally any other female character? She matches limited traits we are given about Joan's suitor. She has shared history with Jaune (and Jaune's constant hounding of Weiss from early volumes could be interpreted as supposed promise of marriage) and her proposal would have approval of Jaune's loved ones (his friends in this case). I cannot find a single other potential Jaune ship that fits both (Lancaster is bit lacking in the first one since it's almost completely platonic, Knightfall and Silent Knight fail at both criteria).

She is the only character that seems to be romantically interested in Jaune at the moment... unless you believe yandere Cinder is canon.

So if Jaune's story is directly (or at least symbolically) following Joan of Arc story, then it's likely Jaune is gonna reject Weiss. Cool, but how does that factor into Knightfall?

Joan rejects her suitor and continuously tries to get an audience with the king (I'll once again ignore massive parallels between Cinder and king Charles VII and read this in vacuum). She goes against wishes of her parents, first by refusing suitor they approved, and then by going on her mission (something she kept in secret from her parents and was prohibited to pursue). So if we directly translate this into RWBY, that would mean Jaune will instead pursue a goal of meeting someone, going against wishes of his loved ones. That kind of narrows it down, don't you think.

Both events (Joan rejecting a suitor and her meeting with the king) will also be referenced at Joan's heresy trial. One of the most important transgressions here being the fact that she gave the crown to the king. Heretical implications? Related to the crown? My, my, that indeed does narrow it down quite a lot.

Yang:Where were you!?

Oscar:*typing on PC* “I found her dead in the S.T.A.R.S office. Also I found magnum pistols.”

Blake: “Mr. X sort of cornerd me in here and choked me.”

Yang:Did that do anything for ya? *snickering*

Blake: “Yeah, it killed me. Oscar his going to give you guys the guns. Then you all are going to be heading to the police office and escape through the club door. I’ll have it unlocked in no time at all since I’m going through library to unlock the door there.”

Weiss:Sounds like a plan.

Ruby:Everyone has a plan until Mr.X shows up.

Oscar: “I haven’t seen him in a while.”

Jaune: “Hey guys, ready for some pro gamer move?”

Ruby:You’re alive!

Ren: “Where’s Nora?”

Nora:*walks into break room* Saving your butt. I brought herbs!

Ren:H...how did get through all the infected?

Nora:Easy, *grabs shotgun* blew off their legs.

Ren:*smiles* Never change Nora.

Jaune: “Alright everyone. Let’s do this; the moment you guys here an explosion, follow Blake and Oscar’s plan. Ren and Nora, bolt you the main hallway.”

Blake:Explosion? Wha-

A huge explosion rumbles the area. Immediately she runs out into the hall and to the upper storage room. A shelf blocks the door she needs but before she could panic, Jaune runs from the other side of the room and helps her starts pushing it out the way. One of his hands is gripping the medallion tight and a whole in the wall behind him.

Blake:Did you blow up the wall?

Jaune:It’s how the puzzle works!

Blake:What kind of puzzle-

Jaune:Just run! There’s a licker in here!

They run through the door and sprint down the stairs. An infected tries to stand but Jaune shoots it and keeps running. Blake opens the door to the main hall and keep going. On the other side was Nora and Ren near the statue. Nora was placing two medallions down while he covered her by holding a flash grenade. “Sweet!” Her head swivel to see Mr. X blinded. “Oh shit......” Blake rushed through the police officer door and unlocked it. The rest of the gang ran out of it seconds later. Jaune throws the final medallion to Nora and she opens up the path.

RWY:Blake!!!!!! *hugs her*

Blake:Mr. X is upstairs....

RWY:*lets go* What!?

Blake:Yeah and I can tell from personal experiences that dying by him really hurts so maybe we can hug later and ru-

They grab her and rush down the secret passage. Oscar follows right behind them, followed by Jaune who throws another flash bang at Mr. X so Ren and Nora can escape as well. The passage closes immediately and they all look at each other.

Everyone:Hell yeah!!!!!

Nora:You guys better give a round of applause to me and Jaune. He learned to read that map fast. As for me, *cocks gun* I’ll take one any zombie. No fear, no surrender.

Blake:Oscar?

Oscar:What’s up?

Blake:*kisses his cheek* Thanks for the save.

Oscar:*red* N...no big deal.

Ruby:*hugging Jaune* If you don’t radio in more often then I’m going to have a panic attack you here me? Don’t scare me like that.

Btw, I don’t usually ship characters. Romance is usually the least interesting part of the story for me so expect a lot of meh.

Arkos: obviously I love this, it’s perfect

Blacksun: ehh, it’s cute. I started out feeling kinda meh, it was sweet but not really interesting, but now it’s growing on me. Ironically the same thing is happening with Bumblebee, although I still like Blake and Yang better platonically

Bunanas: so this is a ship between Velvet and Sun, and it’s honestly really cute to imagine even if it is completely random. I like it better then Blacksun…I think?

Candy Cane: this is just weird. I can’t imagine Nora being anything but a older sister to Oscar. The age gap makes it creepy too, not the four years is much of a gap, but when your teenagers it’s a big gap.

Chocolate Arc: this is hilarious to imagine but obviously yeah, Coco isn’t going to fall for someone like Jaune

Cinnabun: I barely know anything about Yatsuhashi but he and Velvet are cute, I guess? Still like her better with Sun

ClockRose: heck no!

Coconuts: again, can’t see Sun doing anything but annoying Coco. I really don’t like the whole ‘badass jerk of a girl falls for goof ball trope.’ It always ends up feeling sexist in several ways

Combat Boots: honestly outside of an AU I can’t see Yang ever forgiving Mercury much less falling in love with him. Also Mercury just doesn’t deserve her

Combat goggles: I feel like Yang and Neptune would have fun causally dating each other and slowly realizing they actually like (Blake/Sun/Jaune/whoever) and become each other’s wingmen. That fanfic better be lying around somewhere

Crimson Lotus: okay, if I didn’t love Renora and Rosegarden so much I’d probably ship this. It’s really cute

Crimson Sun: this feels like an excuse to write lemons of the two hottest characters

Crimson wings: look I understand most of the shipping heroes with villains because they’re both hot and the villain/hero dynamic is always fun. But Cardin…he’s not even hot. He’s not even interesting. And yet people ship him with Ruby? Why?

Daddie Issues: you know I see where this is coming from but they would just end up murdering each other.

Dairy Farm: obviously this is downright creepy in cannon, but in an au where Neo isn’t evil and both are closer in age, this would be adorable. I feel like Neo’s main problem is she’s incredibly lonely—other then Roman no one bothers to understand or talk to her. If Oscar reached out to her, and she began to protect him…it would be perfect. In way even better then Rosegarden because I think Neo would still be a bit of pycho even when good, and it would be fun to see her lose it when Salem hurts him.

Ilia/Adam: I just want to say I am forever grateful the show went out of its way to avoid this obnoxious, cliche ship from being canon

Dragon slayer: I see why people ship Jaune and Yang, I really do. They’re both the team mom/dad of their team, they’ve got the whole goofball/badass thing going (which is a trope I do like when the badass isn’t a jerk), they both have a good sense of humor, etc. But I just can’t see them as romantic. It feels really weird. I can’t even explain why. I understand shipping them but I really can’t ship them myself.

Emercury: I really love this ship, but I also don’t mind at all if the show decides to make them platonic. I enjoy their relationship in general and it works either way.

Oscar/Emerald: again, feel creepy. I love the idea of a sibling relationship and can’t see them possibly being romantic even without the age gape.

Cinder/Qrow: yeah again. Both are sexy and good for angsty lemons. I’m not into that stuff so I don’t ship them

Fall Stinger: I just don’t know why anyone would ship Tyrian with anyone. Unless it was Salem and even that is super creepy

Firerobber: I like villain relationships but Roman already has Neo and Cinder is a hot mess. Literally

Firewall: I don’t know why anyone would ship Watts with anyone. He’s even worst less ship-able then Tyrian

Footloose: I don’t actually ship it but just imagine Mercury and Melanie bonding over weaponized feet.

Freckles: Yeah this is just painful. The two most adorable characters (Penny and Oscar), who go through the worst things imaginable. It’s endless fluff, angst, and whump, and I love cute romance and tragic romances, so this is definitely something I ship.

Frostbite: seriously, this is so weird and toxic. Having Adam fall for Weiss or vice versa. Maybe it would work in an AU or something but it’s just too creepy

Funky Beats: it’s cute, I ship it.

Gelato: yeah I love healthy villainous relationships! Neo and Roman are freaking adorable, and I’m sad that we didn’t see more of them together.

Grandmasters: I obviously don’t ship Salem and Ozpin because that’s just creepy, but I do like their romance. I like tragic romances, and this probably the most tragic one in existence

Greek Lotus: I don’t see the chemistry and crashes two of my favorite ships so…

Green Knight: well, she kinda helped kill his last girlfriend so…unless it’s AU this isn’t going to work. Even if it is an AU. This feels like another ship made solely for lemons

Velvet/Cardin: yeah, a bigot changing his mind when he falls in love with a minority isn’t cute. Isn’t sweet. It isn’t romantic. I don’t even excuse lemons that use this trope. Even porn ought to be above that

Weiss/Cardin: WOULD EVERYONE STOP SHIPPING CARDIN WITH PEOPLE

Hummingbird: it’s hard to ship something when you only know one character, but I was interested in the theory that Qrow was actually Ruby’s father. But then in season 7 Qrow’s description of Summer made me rethink it, and it didn’t sound anything like how you’d describe a romantic relationship. So I don’t really like that theory anymore

Iceberg: this is just cliche and boring. I get them dating but it wouldn’t last that long

Flynt/Weiss: I really love this one, it’s my favorite ship with Weiss. I don’t want it to actually happened in cannon because that would be random, but I feel like it would be fun for both their characters. And they both share an interest in music. I’m imagining an AU where he gets her into jazz and she starts singing it at all her concerts to the horror of Jaques.

Iron Maiden: honestly what. Why. Gross

Iron witch: well I definitely see why people like it. I actually wouldn’t mind it being cannon, It’d be a good combination of funny/tragic and I’d like to see Glynda mentoring Winter

Jailbirds: this just feels forced and also Qrow is probably too old for her. I like their relationship and don’t want it to be romantic

Knight fall: lemon ship. Moving on

Knight Life: I feel like Jaune just gets shipped with everyone but this is cute I guess

Lancaster: it’s cute, but I can’t ship it because it feels cliche. I was worried that Jaune was going to be her love interest when they first met and was relieved to see him with Pyrrha instead. It just feels forced and boring to have him end up with Ruby

Pyrrha/Mercury: this really popular for some unfathomable reason. I like Mercury but Pyrrha deserves better

Marrowgold (May/Marrow): I just don’t see it

Nikong: Pyrrha and Sun would be cute together, but I don’t really love this ship. It’s kinda meh.

Nora’s Arc: no. Just no. It technically would work but their platonic relationship is way too good to lose

Old Silver: this is Maria/Pietro, and I think it’s adorable. They both strike me as really flirty for their ages and both are very good mentors. They can be the crazy grandparents of the team

Ozglyn: just don’t see it

Phoenix: yeah Raven was a horrible girlfriend/wife. I don’t ship her Taiyang

QuickSilver: Ruby deserves better than Mercury.

Rehab (Qrow/Glynda): the fact that this is called rehab explains why I don’t ship it

ReNora: yeah, this is probably my favorite ship. I don’t think I have to explain why.

Robotic Knight: I briefly shipped this but now disagree

Rosegarden: I really love Rosegarden, they’re just too adorable together, though the whole Ozpin does make it a little awkward

Rosewick: I can’t see this happening, even in an AU

Coco/Fox: I don’t know enough about Fox to really ship them, but the fact that Coco canonically slaps his butt during battle definitely makes me want to

Mercury/Neo: I could see this working. It would be pretty cute

Snowbird: so at first I really liked the idea of Qrow and Winter being ex’s, but now that I think about it he has to be at least twenty years older then her. Also, I have to say that while they have chemistry I think they would just end up killing each other

Strawbanna: I just can’t see Ruby and Sun together. It feels weird

Mercury/Cinder: Mercury is way too young, and even if he wasn’t this would be really weird. Also Cinder makes him look like a stable, peaceful person, so also no.

White Knight: I really hate this ship. It’s so obnoxious and boring, and nearly falls into the jerky badass/goofball trope I hate

Wise Dragon: anyone care to explain why this is so popular? Sage barely has any character to him, I can’t ship him with anyone

Yellow rose: Yeah, I kinda ship this, but again, it’s difficult when you barely know one character

Mint chocolate (Emerald/Coco): if Coco managed to forgive her for everything that happened at Beacon I could maybe see this happening. There is some chemistry

Monochrome: Blake and Weiss have never had any romance chemistry despite plenty of opportunity to have it, so again, I see them as strictly platonic and shipping them feels almost like incest. I know that doesn’t make sense

Nuts and Dolts: I would ship, but I like them together platonically too well. Definitely understand the ship, though I find it funny that Ruby, who insist she likes weapons better then people, would fall in love with a personified weapon. I know that’s probably racist against robots

Overheating (Penny/Cinder): I take back what I said about every Penny ship being cute

PennyWeiss: but this one is pretty cute

Pink Lemonade: can you imagine the chaos of Yang and Nora dating each other? They both need someone with a cooler head to keep them in check

Scheenoks: with Weiss’s fangirling I can definitely see were this is coming from, but Weiss is too mean for Pyrrha

The whole "Ruby is a clone of Summer" theory in all its variations. (From Oz literally creating SEW clones to fight Salem, or SEW are an alien race from the Moon that reproduce asexually, or Ruby is a reincarnation of Summer)

Honestly they don't actually infuriate me, they're so insane balls-off-the-walls tinfoil crown level crazy theories I kind of love them ironically?

Oh but one that always made me mad was the "Whitley secretly planned and manipulated Weiss losing her inheritance" in V4 oooooohhhh makes me so maaaaaad. I'm so glad we're past the Whitley hating phase in the fandom.

I literally have NEVER heard of those first few you mentioned omg. Say what you want about the RWBY fndm, there is no shortage of off the walls cracked out mildly infuriating creativity, jesus.

Whitley manipulating weiss in v4 was always such a dumbass theory - it literally has no canon backing unless you do some real mental gymnastics to somehow justify that whitley would have had known weiss was going to lose her cool and her fight with Jacques was going to happen exactly the way it did.

Whitley really wouldn't have known. I mean, you could say that maybe he was playing nice because he had a slight idea that it would happen, but that's pretty much it. Whitley was just relishing in weiss' misfortune, and isn't that bad enough? Why does the fndm want to add like 5 different layers of Whitley Being Evil And Manipulative so they can justify why they had such a hateboner for a 14 year old fictional abuse victim lmao.

About Jaune ships...

I have opinions. You may not agree, but they are mine. They may change in time, but not now.

LANCASTER ( RUBY X JAUNE )

The old tried and true. I mean, what's not to like? Cute girl falls for first guy she meets at Beacon? Classic romance trope, and after reading how much Ruby loves romance stories (I consider certain parts in the manga canon), it makes sense. In fact, after Arkos sank (A moment of silence, please . . . Thank you), many moved to Lancaster, which isn't bad. Happens all the time in fandoms. Sad thing, though, is far I think she'll last. If we're talking Volume 5 or earlier, then maybe. However, I feel if Ruby were to have an endgame in romance, it would be RoseGarden (I have opinions on that as well, but today isn't the day to discuss that), mostly because Oscar bumped Jaune's role from male lead to male side. Not to mention that while Jaune is becoming a beast in his own right, Ruby is a different creature altogether and evolving her character more rapidly and chaotically than anyone else (Must be all that screentime).

TLDR: I want it to be canon, but I might just be hoping.

WHITE KNIGHT ( WEISS X JAUNE)

Doofus in tin foil meets princess who hates daddy (Am I in the romance section of the library? You know, the corner for adults only?) No, but I do like this ship. I'm always a sucker for the fantasy genre, and using a zero to hero male makes it relatable. I also kind of ship it because the same reason I ship NaruSaku in the Naruto fandom: he likes her and he's willing to go the distance. But enough about that; instead let's talk about canon. Will they hook up? It's a soft maybe for me, for two reasons. 1. Rosegarden is most likely to be endgame, and after Ruby and Pyrrha, I'd say Weiss is Jaune's next to be his love interest. 2. Weiss has warmed up to Jaune. Sure, not lover or crush level (Yet), but she's definitely changed her opinion on him. In Volume 1, Jaune was bugging her, like all the time, which I could see as him getting mixed signals on (Exhibit A: Tall, blonde, and scraggly). When Volume 5 came around, everyone jumped onboard because he saved her life (Don't lie, because I'll admit that I did it, too). Not the best reason, but still reason enough, I'd say. Then in Volume 7, she hangs out with him and Oscar to the movies (It was either that or awkward Bumbleby all night. I feel ya, sister). Nothing romantic happens, but it does show how much their relationship has developed. If Weiss is Jaune's endgame, then they have set the pieces up perfectly to do so.

TLDR: High likelihood to be canon and I'm a sucker for Knight/Princess ships.

KNIGHTSHADE ( BLAKE X JAUNE)

This is the part where I say definitely not. Not in a million years, but I'll explain why I like the ship, though. As for why it won't work, the answer is Bumbleby. They haven't kissed yet, but you know they're going to eventually (Because if they don't, the fans will attack like a swarm of hornets). But here's the question you might be asking now: why do I ship this? Well, it's part of the allure of "opposites attract" ('Cause I'm dressed like a cat!). Blake is an intelligent, outspoken, and agile ninja with a criminal history of terrorism who spends her free time reading novels. Jaune is a B at best on his tests, soft-hearted, and ground-based knight who's worst crime is fraud (Still a crime, but peanuts compared to literal terrorism) and spends his free time hanging out with his team. Day and night. But they also tried that with Sun for a season and a half and it didn't last (BECAUSE BEES).

TLDR: Not even a snowball's chance in the summer sun, but so much story potential if you do (Which I do)!

DRAGONSLAYER ( YANG X JAUNE )

This, I would say, is the opposite of Knightshade, where Jaune is the day and Blake is night, here Yang is the Sun and Jaune is the Moon (Like their crests! Remember those? Y'know, when they were relevant?) Will it work? Even less so than Knightshade. However, it does open up some interesting paths considering how... provocative Yang can be, and Jaune, compared to the other guys, is the nerdiest, geekiest dude at Beacon. It's like the cheerleader/nerd romance, except the cheerleader is the captain of every sports team... and rides a motorcycle. The Volume 8 preview introduced us to Yang and Jaune riding motorcycles and we went nuts over it. Yang was back in her element, roaring down the street, riding on walls, popping off tricks with Oscar riding- Back to what I was saying, people were asking, "How did he know how to ride a motorcycle?" and the elementary answer is "He didn't." He almost fell off his bike from a small box in the road. True, anyone would, but look at how he reacts: he stiffens, he refocuses on the road. This kid literally started riding at breakfast, and I DARE you to prove me wrong. But hey, great fic material right there, though, eh?

TLDR: Never gonna happen, but I don't care. All I care about is writing that they love each other. And they also fu-!

ARKOS ( PYRRHA X JAUNE )

I'm sorry, I need a moment. . . . Alright. Do it for her. This ship... was perfect. Probably the best ship out them all. I legit almost cry every time I think about Volume 3. Pyrrha was everyone's favorite. Her background, her interactions, her choreography, everything! But, of course, like everything in our lives, she was too good to be true. But let's honor her memory by talking about her ship, Arkos. Pyrrha was the champion of the world, the Brothers' and Oums' gift to Remnant. She could do no wrong and she HATED it. Her plight was with how she was seen. Everybody knew her! Everybody, except Jaune. And he only figured out she was "a big deal" was because Weiss had to spell it out for him! As time went on, they became the best of friends, two peas in a pod, the perfect odd couple! They worked together and trusted each other, they cared for and supported each other, they lo- No. No, I can't say it. It's been years, and it still hurts. So, I'll explain something else: the reason why Jaune SHOULD NOT be shipped right now. That reason is Pyrrha. Jaune was helpless to save her. He's suffering from survivor's guilt and he's still grieving. In Volume 4, he would sneak away and train until late at night to scroll recording of her. In Volume 5, he confronted Cinder and got Weiss almost killed because he let his grief for Pyrrha take control of him and let his emotions run wild. In Volume 6, he finds the Pyrrha statue and he... I don't know how to say this, but he let's go. He accepts that Pyrrha is gone and he's starting the healing process. He's finally ready to move forward.

TLDR: T.T I never felt that it was wise to wish too much~

MARTIAL ARCS ( REN X JAUNE)

I'll be honest, I don't really ship it. Yeah, it's cute, and it falls perfectly into the "if I had to pick a guy" part of me, but to be honest, I don't ship it. 10% because Renora and 90% it just doesn't click with me. They both just seem too soft, too quiet, too introverted. Best friends? Yes, definitely! But lovers? Eeeeeh, not really.

TLDR: I will only ship as neccessary.

NORA'S ARC ( NORA X JAUNE )

I've only just got in this deep with the fandom only recently, so I don't know if a lot of you know me. Heck, I'm probably just some RWBY fan you happen to spot as you move through your dash. However, old or new, I want to be made absolutely positively clear on this. Of all the ships here, this has got to be my-

O T FUDGIN' P

Wow! Never thought I'd feel so strongly about a crack ship like this. And yes, as sad it is to say, this is a crack ship. Renora was planned from day one, so it can't be helped. At least it didn't blast me in the face all of the sudden (OH NO, NOT THE BEES! AAAAARGH! THEY'RE IN MY EYES!). But why this ship? Well, for one thing, it's that whole opposites attract thing with Nora as the bubbly, outspoken, airhead powerhouse and Jaune as the soft spoken, introverted, nerd tactician. But wait, there's more to this trope, because it can go deeper: Order VS Chaos! Who makes all the messes? Who cleans up those messes? Who follows all the rules? Who makes their own doors? It's just. So. Damn! GOOD! One sad thing about this ship though is that it's not only not canon because of Renora, it's anti-canon because Renora. Every fan fic of Nora's Arc requires an explanation for Ren and Nora to not be together-together, like you have to write a formal apology to the FNDM for liking something that's different from what is canon or commonly accepted. If that's the case, then I'll be the anarchist here!

TLDR: I LOVE IT! What's that? Not canon? Who gives a damn?! I just explained why Jaune won't be shipped anyways! Now, if you'll excuse, I have some fan fics to find.

ARCFALL ( CINDER X JAUNE )

Oh, here it goes! Now, if we're talking ships that'll never happen, this is where we find better reasons than "it's not canon" and "character development". No, this... This is a declaration of war. Allow me to explain. Cinder Fall is evil. Like, down to her core. She wants power and she'll cut through anyone to get to it. Including Pyrrha. This woman sank Arkos by means other than "X and Y kissed, so..." She killed X, leaving Y alone. And her interactions with Jaune tell me she wouldn't even be worth a hate-bang. But, as Momma always, there's a thin line between love and hate. This is where the appeal comes in. Cinder is evil with no past, which leaves the previous chapter's of her life story blank to be filled in. Jaune is good with a troublesome, albeit easy past, but untapped potential for more. It's another opposites attract, but different from INTRO VS EXTRO and CHAOS VS ORDER; this is GOOD VS EVIL. Who will win this battle of wills; will our hero purify the tainted heart, or will he slip deeper into darkness, never to return to the light?

TLDR: Should be a NOTP, and yet the allure pulls me in.

If there was an Evil Lancaster, what would their situation be?

Oh boy I've been having a lot of thought and imaginations about the Evil version of the couple, so where do I begin?

Well Ruby will turn evil when she was hidden behind a wall to eavesdrop on her parents' conversation about Ozpin sending her mother, Summer, to a solo mission but she never came back. Something pure broke in her heart and she started to feel hatred towards Ozpin and blames him for her death. Instead of a pure noncussing girl, she grew to become a woman who does not care if she hurts someone's feelings or cuss someone out and she will go for the kill.

Jaune feels neglected from his family because he couldn't be a good fighter like his father and sisters. Against his father's wishes he went to train on his own, but when his father found out he disowned him. Not only that when his team found out about his fake transcripts they kicked him out of the dorm room and pretends he never existed. All students of Beacon soon found out and started to bully him even more to the point of beating him, he thought huntsman were suppose to be heroes that would aid the defenseless be that soon shattered when he noticed some would turn away when the students beat him and that was the final straw. All but one, Ruby.

Ruby found out the truth behind the Huntsman's line of work at an early and when she sees some students (CRDL) beating Jaune for some papers (which she thinks it's all bullshit they're just papers) so she went and brutally killed them, she stands infront of Jaune and noticed the look of betrayal and no light in his eyes. (Another thing she blames Ozpin for.) So she offered Jaune to join her on her quest for revenge, with nothing left to lose he accepted.

They left Beacon without a trace and as time flies by they started to feel love for each other. They were setting up camp for the night when they were suddenly approached by Tyrian and offered them a way to get revenge on Ozpin and that is to follow Salem.

Ruby and Jaune accepted but they let it be known that the alliance is only temporary.

That's pretty much all I got and I know that this probably don't make sense so sorry for that.

Jaune sat on his bed, blindfolded. He heard the faintest sounds of something creeping up on him, but was completely unsure of what it was. It was not until they reached closed enough for the scent to waft into his nose, and he developed a smile. He could not identify the scent, but it made him feel warm inside. He felt the pressence lean towards him and kiss him on the lips. He was stunned, struck dumb and filled with awe. There was no way this could be happening.

He could sense the form fret nervously, unsure of what to do.

Jaune: Whoever is there... say something... otherwise I'll assume I'm just crazy.

*pregnant pause, in which the only thing Jaune can hear is breathing*

Nora (from the doorway): Oh, for crying out loud, say something! We literally gift wrapped him for you!

Ren: Perhaps we should...

Nora: Nuh-uh. You are going to say something, or I'm going going to tell him everything. For... I mean... Leader does not deserve to have his feelings played with like this.

Ren: We believe in you...

*heavy breathing*

Ruby: Promise you won't get mad.

RWBY - Do I Ship It #2? Ruby Rose

I’ve decided to continue this whole shebang with going over ships for individual characters each time. And for this one, we’re looking at our favorite cooking-deepthroating reaper, Ruby Rose...That may be one of my favorite character descriptions I’ve ever typed.

With introductions outta the way, let’s talk some Ruby ships.

White Rose

Ideally, White Rose has become one of those ships that half of the FNDM loves to hate. But me, I’m not as triggered by it, let alone nowhere near as angered by it’s presence simply because it’s not Bumbleby.

Unlike BB, in which it’s presence makes me wanna slug my screen every time I see a comment thread screeching high praise about it, I can look at White Rose and just be more like: “Eh. It’s okay.” Simply because I have seen WR content that I enjoy, and that at least many WR shippers know when to shut up when they’re called out unlike Wasps.

Really, a lot of the content has a lot heart put into it to where I really can’t get mad at it. I know it’s a WLW ship. I know that’s become a thing to generally hate among RWBY fans. But I do think that WR is the lesser of two evils between that and BB not because I have a lot of friends who ship it, but because I think folks crap on it way too much compared to the demon that BB has become.

Am I saying there aren’t toxic WR fans still around? Hell no. They need to be called out on it, too. But I’m also generally more relaxed about the ship. Nothing major really.

Ladybug

Ladybug has become a recent addition to my ship list a while back. But I’ve fallen head over heels for it in such a short amount of time.

Even many folks I’ve spoken to who tend to gag at the mention of WLW ships in a fandom as egregious as RWBY’s agree that the Bugs are really harmless given soft the content of this ship often is. I’m not saying that Ladybug is all “wee-hee-we’re-a-couple-of-happy-go-lucky-dorks” because that would make it unoriginal and boring to read in many cases.

No, the reason I’ve grown to adore Ladybug so much is because I’m one of those who parrots how much of a missed opportunity (like the show is as a frigging whole) how many interactions there could be between Ruby and Blake.

Why wouldn’t they? They’re both into fantasy stories, both have darkened color schemes, and share some general views on why they fight. Really, Ladybug is just a good way for me to fill the void of just how much Rooster Teeth doesn’t give a fuck about how to organize their characters properly?

Volume 5 gets Freezerburn, and not onwards? Come on, RT.

But before I end up turning this into a rwde post, let’s just move onto the next ship.

Nuts & Dolts

Yeah this one was pretty obvious. But who cares?! I frigging adore Nuts & Dolts.

Let me just be clear in saying that I can ship it platonically/romantically, simply because I love the bond that Ruby and Penny share. They’re both hyperactive, kindhearted and strong-willed girls with a penchant for bladed weaponry and wanting to make the world a better place for everyone.

This initially made N&D into a guilty pleasure ship for me. But over time, I just couldn’t resist or get mad at it because I love how soft it feels. Same reason as Ladybug for the most part. But overall, I like N&D because of just how much soul there is between two people who were born differently with a set of powers that aren’t what you’d call “ordinary”.

As someone who’s been called “unique” or other labels with the disability I have, I usually find it very pretentious and downright grating to see stories that are supposed to be uplifting about being born in a different manner because that can be really damn annoying after a while.

Yeah, stuff like disability or other stuff is under-represented in pop culture. But often it’s portrayed in a very “Hollywood” fashion even if it’s not a work from that culture and work mindset.

I’m not saying N&D is one of those “unique” portrayals, but as something that shows what happens when two saviors who wanted a normal life have someone in each other that they can trust and even love for their shared experiences of being born differently.

Which is why I’ve grown to accept Ruby and Penny as the popular fan portrayal of being girlfriends or platonic friends. They have so much in common, which makes it that much more endearing for me personally.

Okay. Those are some Ruby/Other girl ships outta the way. Now let’s discuss some Ruby/guy ships...Here’s where it gets a little odd.

Oh boy. I’m probably gonna get some flak for this entry...

Let me just be clear that this is a post that is NOT meant to attack any particular shippers. This is me stating what I feel about certain ships and me occasionally talking about how I think they would turn out. 

It’s not my headcanon interpretations, per se. But instead it’s more how I picture it based on my experience with viewing relationships in my own life before I started discussing fandom ships.

Now that I have that out of the way, let’s discuss Ruby/Jaune.

When I first started watching RWBY, my first ship, like many others was Arkos (more on that when I cover Jaune). I felt that Pyrrha was just the right fit for a lovable dweeb like him with how it helped kick-start his character development and the framework for how he would improve himself overall.

Granted, I wasn’t really expecting Arkos to be canon since Pyrrha had died in V3. It was a tragic outcome for a ship that had so much buildup. And most of the FNDM agreed that Jaune needed a hug along with his friends to help him through it.

When I started to hear about the fact that Jaune was shipped with other girls in the main cast, I wasn’t really shocked since White Knight was already fairly popular. But when I found out about Lancaster, it was like: “Wait a second, people actually ship him with Ruby?”

Was more confusion than astonishment, to be honest. I didn’t really think that it would’ve been fitting despite how close and similar both team leaders were. But I decided to bite the bullet and give it a try with reading a couple of Lancaster works.

I got bored.

I’m not so much angry whenever I hear about Lancaster as I am just not impressed by how much fanon works recycle many tropes and plot elements.

Ruby is secretly in love with Jaune.

Jaune does something adorkable or manly which attracts Ruby.

Ruby makes/attempts to make a move on him with some crazy or titillating way that, while in-character for her, has been repeated one times too many in this or other ships featuring her.

Jaune is generally being a good boi throughout. I like Jaune, but I feel that he’s put in too many fanfics in which he’s overly good and pure. Again. It’s fitting for him, but sometimes a bit of difference in fan interpretation is nice. Make him angry, have him lash out at his friends at times. Just don’t make him a “perfect” boyfriend.

Both dorks often have to hide their relationship because of the possibility of Pyrrha being jealous, Yang going apeshit, or other characters reacting the way they do which is often buzzwords in a fic like that.

Lancaster shippers, I am not attacking you since this is your thing. If so, fine. But it’s not mine as I am giving an attempt to give constructive criticism about some of the ships listed here while talking about ships I like to make these posts all about even ground.

I prefer to see Ruby and Jaune as besties. Hell. I prefer to see them more like siblings considering how much Jaune acted like a big brother to Ruby on the road to Mistral with how Yang was bedridden with depression in V4. I also think that Jaune needs a friend right now rather than a love interest. The same could be said for a lot of characters right now, but that’s a different topic.

My biggest criticism for LC is that while I understand the similarities that they share, it’s the whole “opposite-gender-leads-fall-in-love” trope. This trope can be done right *coughRENORAcough* but is put in so many works that I’m not one of those fans who’s impressed with it.

The ship isn’t original, but it’s nothing to make me wanna rage-post like I’m Keemstar on Red Bull or the like. And I know people who are into it, to which I tell them: Good for all of you. It’s simply not my cup of tea.

Rosegarden

Oh god, how I wish it wasn’t harvest season!

Kidding. Kidding. Rosegarden is legit, and all my friends in the group who ship it are wonderful people.

Another ship that I can’t really get angry at since compared to other ships that cover things like young love or ships of people who were born differently (see my Nuts & Dolts entry), RG is pretty fucking harmless and I can tolerate it more even though I’m not into it.

While I understand why it seems hypocritical of me to share and repost stuff related to RG on occasion, this is simply because I have reason to share it based on how much I’ve interacted with shippers and how I’ve actually had productive discussions with them outside of their ship.

It’s the community which I like more than the ship because of how much more chill they are. But there’s also a big reason why I know that some people crap on this one.

Ozpin.

Dude, if I had a Dollar for every “RG-is-pedophilia-because-Oscar-is-Ozpin’s-puppet” fallacy that was posted I wouldn’t be needing a stimulus check. Let me explain to y’all why that’s bullshit.

Is Ozpin eons of years old? Yes. He’s from Humanity 1.0 and was thrown into the bodies of men in the modern world in his war against Salem. It’s a rough situation with a lot of baggage to any relationship he puts up or wishes to even build-up and I don’t think it should be swept under the rug because there’s a lot of stuff that should be brought up about the guy.

Is Ozpin intervening on any potential interaction between Ruby and Oscar? No. Canon or no, Oz has been a neutral party in whatever interactions the two kids have because it’s not really his business. Do you honestly believe that if Ozpin would be the kind to boss his host around that he would attempt to butt in on their friendship?

As an Oz critic, I can say that while I understand both interactions, I draw the line at this ship being considered pedophilia.

I mean, come on! The FNDM ships Ruby with villains like Roman, Cinder and Salem, who are adults when she’s a teenager! And suddenly it’s okay to claim pedophilia just because Ozpin is present?! ARE YOU HIGH?

If we’re going with that logic, fine, just have Ozpin ascend from his brain after Salem is 86′d, THEN we can have a development in RG’s friendship whether it’s romantic or not. But leave the fans of this pairing out of it!

The reason I don’t ship Rosegarden is because I’m not a fan of the whole “young love” trope either. I wouldn’t mind it so much if Oscar wasn’t relegated to a support role due to being an Oz host and he had more screen time rather than the old wizard.

Maybe I’m just too cynical about stuff like this to really care. But the point is, I can’t get mad at this ship either and I’m willing to read up on it in small doses.

Sun Wukong, you magnificent monkey bastard! You always seem to brighten my day whenever I’m looking through critical discussions related to this show.

Much as I love BlackSun, I’m definietly curious to learn more about other ships involving my homeboy here. Solar Flare, I also like. But Sun/Ruby? Thank you sir, may I have another!

Ugh. Can’t believe I just quoted Animal House to describe my love for this painfully underrated ship. Somebody get me some soap...

Other than their VAs being married in real life, I like Strawbana/Red Sun the same reason as Nuts & Dolts with this being a ship that features two extremely upbeat characters finding love in one another with just how much they kick ass for the reasons of just being good people.

Kinda/sorta the only straight Ruby ship I’m into just because of how much they could rub off on one another, and how much I’d love to see them interact more in canon material. Not just the show but any other tie-in stuff.

Next time, we cover Weissu.

that doesn’t stop her from being over optimistic and naive. her motivations and her actions paint a picture of a girl who’s trying to make the world a better place but with no idea on how to actually do so.

she’s just like jaune, the only difference is jaune seems to have given up on being the big damn hero after pyrrha’s death. now he’s only fighting to save the people he loves.

ruby’s trying to save the world because “it’s the right thing to do” but struggles when she comes up against a problem caused by people willfully doing the wrong thing in a less straightforward manner. she struggles with shades of grey

jaune’s saving the world, because ruby’s a part of it. his primary concern has shifted from stopping evil to protecting his friends. as a result he moves more comfortably through the shades of grey that surround him.

ruby thinks doing the right thing will result in a better world

jaune’s realized that heroes only end up dead. and if he wants a better world he’ll need a plan. but he won’t try because what’s the point? he doesn’t care about anything other than his friends. sure he still helps where he can but not like ruby.

both are too far on either side of the spectrum to see the world for what it is. neither good nor bad. just a world.

This best sums up how I’ve always seen them, and one of the reasons why I think they compliment each other so well.

Cause despite Ruby’s optimistic Black and White world view clashing with Jaune’s Knight in Sour armor cynical shades of grey, they both ultimately want to do the right thing.

I’d like to think, at some point, that Ruby may start to heavily question her mindset, only for Jaune to admit it’s one of her more admirable traits. That even when everything is against them, when everything seems lost, she’s there’s with optimism in her heart to lead them to victory.

This in turn, would lead Ruby to confessing how she admired Jaune’s level headedness , and how despite his cynical views tempering his outlook on life, he’ll always do what he believes is the right thing to do.

This would lead to Jaune lightening up a little more, and daring to have a little more optimism in his life and see the world a little less grey, While Ruby would temper her attitude, excepting that while the world isn’t always as Black and White as she thought it was, it still won’t stop her from being her.

But that’s just my two cents on the matter. Kind of Cliche, but it’s one that I enjoy.

jaune might seem like the perfect person to follow but his main problem is he’s lost his vision. he’s still aggressive and still tries to make things better. a step up from the normal “i just deal with shit as it comes” mentality of pessimists but he needs a motivation to really shine.

ruby’s world view offers that but she can’t reach it on her own because as we’ve seen in the most recent volume she’s too caught up on doing the “right thing” in situations where there’s no single best answer. jaune avoids this with the mentality of “i can’t save them all, i won’t even try, but i’ll get as many as i can”

but he only finds himself in situations where he’s able to make those choices because of ruby dragging him along.

I couldn’t agree more. RWBY may not be perfect, but honestly, I’m grateful for the show if only because it gave us are favorite Dork Duo. Whether it’s as platnoic bros, or precious lovers, there can’t be a Ruby without Jaune, and there can’t be a Jaune without Ruby.

One thing I absolutely hate is them turning Ruby pessimistic as an attempted character growth.  They had a wonderful dynamic of Ruby saying that this should do X to save the world, the people, the maidens fair, the dogs, etc., and then Jaune would come up with a plan to do so with a lower chance of dying.  RWBY are very good at getting into and out of problems.  Ren is very good at going with the flow, (both active and passive), and Nora is just waiting for Jaune to tell her to hit something with her hammer.

Removing Ruby’s optimism flat out eliminates the quest, and the entire point of the story.  This is why S6 had no plot and S7 relied on a M*A*S*H plot / turning Ironwood from necessarily fascist to a comic book super villain.

Think this got eaten, so just for fun, rank random rwby ships in terms of these: The Best, the Sweetest, the coolest, the most mediocre, the creepiest, the most creepily weird, Just Plain Bonkers and finally “Why?”

I think we can already guess the first one.

The Best: Bumbleby - Gay slow burn between two wonderful characters.  The sweetest: Gonna go with Renora, I have to hope that they’ll work through their issues after everything they’ve been through The coolest: Crosshares simply by virtue of Coco’s sheer level of coolness

The most mediocre: B/lksun - I don’t hate Sun but ultimately this ship has nothing that appeals to me, Runner up - Lancaster

The next three categories are very hard to tell apart really. Lets just say that anyone who ships non-platonic E/nabler should be banned from social media for life. T/auradonna is pathetic and evil.  And for “Why”?” - I just saw Blood Magic on a list of RWBY ships (Ruby and Salem) and I had to close the browser tab. WTF is wrong with some of you?
