NOTION TUTORIAL୭ 🧷 ✧ ˚. ᵎᵎ 🎀
this is to serve as some little notion tips that i use to make my notion the way that it is. cute and efficient. this is very surface level and i'll get more in depth the more the post goes on. im working on dropping a notion template soon <3
first off pick a color scheme, for me, my color scheme is pastel pinks and whites and soft shades of green as an accent.
u can import photos from pinterest by copying the photo (not the link address, the actual photo) and pasting it into ur notion
take advantage of the columns, when u make a new space click "turn into" and use columns, it'll neatly divide the page
experiment with fonts, i use serif. u can also do large or small text, AND full width pages
making toggle lists saves space and keeps ur page looking super neat and organized
Tumblr media
calendars and tables will keep u organized
to add a page ur gonna wanna go to the top left corner and click "new page"
u can import custom icons by going on pinterest and looking up app icons with the color scheme that u want, download that and add it for cute icons, u can also do the same with GIFS
for links and things of the sort embedding the video and adding the link are two different things, embedding the video means that u can access it on ur page (i do this for youtube videos/spotify etc) and when its a link i'll do this for documents and things of the sort
to add titles to ur columns click the "+" button, i use heading 3 bcuz that's the size i prefer but there are other sizes to choose from
a cool feature that notion has is that u can change the background color OR the text color, when u change the background color its more pastel-like if that's what ur going for
to make section dividers click (-) three times to create a divider

As a small-time Stellan Skarsgard's Acting enjoyer and big-time Morally Compromised Old Man enjoyer I was inevitably going to fall down a Luthen Rael rabbit hole at least once so forgive me for being fully on my bullshit. But I can't explain my read on this guy without talking about That Speech, and I can't talk about that speech without dumping a bunch of thoughts about dialogue.
Because in my own writing the thing I get most obsessive about is character voice, and the thing about character voice is that not everyone is a poet. Sometimes the craft of writing is about euphony pure and simple. But sometimes (revealing my biases) I think the craft of writing is being able to ask yourself - sure it's good, but is it true? Can you find the poetry in the everyday? Can you express something sharp and compelling and resonant and stay faithful to the perspective of a character who isn't consciously honing their words in that way? All fictional dialogue is constructed. But there does come a point on the spectrum of naturalistic to constructed dialogue - it's partly a matter of taste - where you see more of the writer patting themselves on the back for writing a banger of a line than you see of the character, and personally I often find this off-putting.
Which doesn't mean you never get to let the poetry off the leash (God, that would be joyless). It just means there's a time and a place.
Andor's writers are dropping a lot of bangers and they absolutely know it but largely it works for me, because they're smart about the time and place. Cassian gets to be a guy who's resourceful with his words when the chips are down - that's a big part of his characterization. Maarva and Nemik get to break out the poetry when giving a speech or writing a political manifesto; those words are crafted in-universe as well as out. And Luthen - a performer, a salesman, a man with constructed identities - he gets to use a lot of constructed speech even when he isn't in full-throttle soliloquy mode. I've said before that a lot of stories about espionage are also stories about storytelling: people who create characters, fictions, who tell lies in an attempt to get at truths. In this story Luthen is that guy. Wouldn't you rather give it all at once to something real than carve off useless pieces till there's nothing left - it doesn't matter how constructed that sounds if it's a sales pitch he's rehearsed. It doesn't matter if you see a little bit of the author or the actor peek through when he says things like I know the outside; I imagine the rest, because it functions as characterization when in some sense he is both those things.
All of which is to say That Speech works for me because it tells you something about Luthen beyond the face value of what he says. It tells you this is something he's THOUGHT about, at length. If he hasn't delivered those lines to a mirror, he has absolutely worked through some version of them in his head more than once. And that tells you something just slightly to the left of who Luthen objectively is - it tells you how he constructs and sees himself. I fully believe that Luthen believes what he's saying there.
I also fully believe that this is a man who self-admittedly has an ego and a desire for recognition, who says he's given that up but evidently hasn't let go of some measure of resentment about it. That here's a guy who put on a billowing black cloak, pulled out all the spy theatrics for the express purpose of unsettling his informant, and then gave his best space King Lear audition. That here's a guy with a soliloquy about his sacrifices locked and loaded. On some level Luthen is a little bit into being a martyr for the cause. He's a little bit into the dark glamor of being a lone wolf operator pulling morally tarnished strings. He's a little bit into frightening and manipulating his informant! For all the cynicism of what he's saying, he's a little bit enamored with his own self-image as the sort of man who says it, in a way that suggests an inner romantic more than an inner pragmatist. He says he's damned for what he does but there's more furious pride underlying it than self-loathing; in the same breath he's admitting that a tiny piece of him wants a parade.
Which is fascinating and a little unflattering and way more interesting than just a badass character delivering a badass monologue. The characterization here is partly that Luthen is the kind of guy who monologues.
And to give him his due - I also fully believe that he's a very driven and committed man who has sacrificed a lot. Seen in that light, in fact, I think some of his character flaws come into focus in highly sympathetic ways. Ultimately this is a guy with a deep sense of urgency - "terrified the Empire's power will grow beyond the point where we can do anything to stop it," as he says. And sometimes there can be a lot of ego in urgency. It is a special kind of crazy-making to feel you are taking a problem far more seriously than almost everyone around you. It is a weight of responsibility to believe it's on you to fix that problem before it becomes too big to solve. Under those circumstances it's very understandable that Luthen has big responsible student leading the group project energy and a touch of main character syndrome (which is interesting and sort funny, contrasted with Cassian spending much of the story desperately trying to avoid becoming a main character). It takes a certain kind of drive and audacity-verging-on-arrogance to accomplish what Luthen has accomplished. But character flaws are often the flip side of character strengths, and I think a lot of his are tied up here. Sometimes he's a little enamored with his own isolation (he could choose to be more open with fellow rebel leaders like Saw imo). Sometimes he's awfully comfortable instrumentalizing others while insulating himself. He says Imperial arrogance is remarkable, but sometimes he's blind in similar ways - Luthen is almost as surprised as the Imperials by the funeral riot in the final episode. He's spent so much time stage-managing his would-be rebellion from Coruscant that an organic uprising startles him. In his self-appointed position as the lonely string-puller at the top, he maybe has a bit too much fondness for control and not quite enough regard for community (imo it's also kind of telling that there are no actual Aldhanis involved in the heist on Aldhani). As Clem says - sometimes people don't look down the way they should.
All of which are very interesting and human flaws for him to have! And which I do think the show subtly gestures at in the sort of contemplative way he reacts to that riot, and which I'd love to see come into focus more in S2.

I think it's a hatecrime against me that there aren't any slugs as big as the giant African snail. Why do the snails get to have all the fun I just want a giant slime noodle.
#I don't want to keep a snail as a pet because theyre kinda prone to shell injuries#and then they die. id be in a constant state of stress#i can't have tarantulas even though i really want to for the same reason - spiders molt and they can actually fuck up#and they fuck up kinda frequently. and if they fuck up they die#because they either tear off their organs in an attempt to free themselves or they essentially turn themselves to stone#or they suffocate. i know that I'd be extremely stressed every da#id be like 'what if it happens what if they fuck up molting i have to stand here on guard in case they start molting and mess up'#because sometimes if you're really fucking lucky you CAN manage to save them. but you have to#be there on time and you have to pray. because its much easier for you to kill them than save them#and i would never forgive myself for that#in general it's very stressful for me to keep pets who don't have very clear signals of joy and displeasure/pain because i#constantly worry about possibly taking bad care of them and them being unhappy#i loved my hamster but i did breathe a breath of relief when she died of old age because every day with her was just#so unbelievably stressful for me. i wouldn't help but be preoccupied with trying to figure out if i was doing something incorrectly#if i was a bad foster parent to her if she was content etc etc#she was a great hamster but the experience was very much 0/10 for me i would never own a hamster again#in the same vein i probably couldn't have a tarantula due to this as well.#plus tbh I didn't even want a hamster my parents got her for me because they wanted me to feel obligated not to kill myself#they said that if i killed myself they wouldn't care for her and she'd die so i had to stay alive.#a part of me knew they were bullshitting but it still freaked me out super hard and made me unimaginably anxious about#getting run over or anything happening to me and paradoxically that made me even more suicidal and depressed#didn't help that my mother didn't even believe in her own plan and accused me of planning to kill myself AND my hamster#she accused me of that several times. I've always had a lot of intrusive thoughts about hurting animals so it#made me break down and self harm every time. obviously that made my mother even angrier and many a time it led to#her accusing me of being a danger to her and others#if she felt particularly hysterical she screamed i was just like my father and that she feared me as much as she had feared him#when he still had a gun. you can imagine how that made me feel considering i jsed to have nightly night terrors about my father#killing my mother.

making an effective planner⋆.ೃ࿔*:・✍🏽
Tumblr media
i've answered the question of how to make an effective planner as an inbox response but i thought i'd put it into a post so that then if u guys needed it y'all could access it easier ✨
buying the right planner ; for physical planners i prefer to buy planners that include lots of space for additional writing instead of just the date. yk those ones? make sure to get a binder/planner that u think is cute and has space for a to-do list, monthly overview kinda calendar etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if ur working from scratch with a binder you can buy a cute binder or decorate it with stickers and things of the sort. for the paper i highly recommend graph paper bcuz its neater in my opinion but whatever floats ur boat.
on that paper make space for the following ;
monthly calendar (with a little column for monthly goals)
weekly agenda (you can create a new agenda every week if u have the time/energy to do so) but if u dont then you can try...
writing the days of the week and beneath them were gonna try and replicate the concept of a toggle list. its basically like writing "monday" and there are little sub-tasks written below, like what u have to do on that day.
so how i'd do it, is i'd write the day of the week as a header/title. then beneath it i'd use little sticky notes (bonus points if u color coordinate) and then i'd write my tasks on the sticky notes. that way, when a new week comes i dont have to create a whole new agenda, i can simply remove the sticky notes but still keep the structured agenda if that makes sense.
reflection space (to reflect on the productivity of ur month/week/day and what u can improve on and what u can keep doing)
my thing is, if u wanna do a physical planner, whether its an already made planner or a binder, just make sure that u have SPACE for things like that.

How I am using Notion to organize my life!
Tumblr media
I am a huge fan of free tools and resources, and Notion is a game-changer for being able to create detailed plans and goals that can be tracked across multiple types of devices. While I do most of my planning on my laptop, I love being able to open up my plans and change them as needed from my cellphone when I am out of the house.
Below is just a small example of what a week plan may look like for me. I try to include an opportunity every day to learn, be active, and focus on my faith. Each week I focus on a new podcast and read a new book, and I try to find new ways to apply what I've learned to my life.
Tumblr media
I'm a huge supporter of reading. I believe that we are capable of figuring out anything on our own given enough time, but that a single book can be the difference between the solution taking a year, or an hour to find.
Tumblr media
One thing I really love about Notion is the ability to create a very detailed reading list with books, podcasts, articles, and more. I am actively making an effort to read more books, and having one set place to keep track of my reading list is such a useful tool!
Tumblr media
Another awesome feature of Notion is the implemented AI tool! This is a gamechanger for those who freeze up when it comes to planning, or are just now learning how to streamline their goals!
Like I mentioned at the start of this post, I am a huge fan of free resources and tools for those looking to improve their life circumstances! With that in mind, the best part about Notion is that it is free! While there is a bit of a learning curve to utilize all of the tools they offer (even I'm still figuring everything out!) it is so worth the time to try it out and explore the opportunities it opens up. This program offers so many features, these are just the ones that stood out to me on a first impression!
Tumblr media
What is the 12 week year? 7 ways to organize your life... 7 ways to reduce your screen time... These two mistakes are stealing your time...

Negative Habits to Avoid for UPSC Preparation
Imagine preparing for the UPSC exam is like setting off on a thrilling adventure. But just like any adventure, there are challenges to overcome. It takes a lot of hard work, sticking to your goals, and having a good plan. But, sometimes, even if you're really trying your best, you might find yourself doing things that could make it harder for you to succeed. In this guide, we'll explore common negative habits faced by UPSC aspirants and provide straightforward solutions to overcome them. By implementing these simple strategies, aspirants can navigate through challenges effectively and achieve success in their UPSC journey.
Procrastination - Putting Off Tasks
Tumblr media
Procrastination is when we delay tasks or waste time on unimportant things. Many UPSC aspirants struggle with procrastination, which can lead to missed study sessions and last-minute pressure.
To overcome procrastination, break your study tasks into smaller, manageable parts. To create a sense of urgency, establish particular deadlines for every task. By taking small steps consistently, you can avoid procrastination and stay on track with your study schedule.
“You may delay, but time will not.”
                                      ― Benjamin Franklin
There are always distractions, if you allow them! Successful people remain optimistic and concentrated on their goals regardless of their surroundings. They stay focused. They avoid getting distracted, which is common in today's digital world. Social media, notifications, and other distractions can easily divert our attention away from studying.
To avoid distractions, create a dedicated study space that is free from potential distractions. Turn off notifications on your phone and use productivity tools to block distracting websites. Set specific times for studying and avoid multitasking. By minimizing distractions, you can improve focus and productivity during your study sessions.
Distractions - Losing Focus
Tumblr media
“Work is hard. Distractions are plentiful. And time is short.”
                                                                                         ― Adam Hochschild
Lack of Consistency
Tumblr media
Consistency is really important for doing well in UPSC preparation. It’s key to success. However, many aspirants struggle to maintain a consistent study routine.
To overcome this, establish a daily study schedule and stick to it religiously. Make sure you stick to your study schedule and give it more importance than other things. Set realistic goals for each study session and keep checking how well you're doing. By making studying a habit and sticking to a consistent routine, you can maximize your productivity and progress in your UPSC preparation.
“Success isn't always about greatness. It's about consistency.
Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.”
                                                                                         ― Dwayne Johnson
Neglecting Health and Adequate Sleep
Tumblr media
UPSC preparation can be mentally and physically demanding, and many aspirants neglect their health in pursuit of their goals. However, neglecting your health can have negative consequences on your ability to study effectively. Sleep is essential for cognitive function, memory retention, and overall well-being. However, many aspirants neglect their sleep in favor of studying late into the night. This can lead to sleep deprivation, which can impair your ability to focus, concentrate, and retain information.
To prioritize your health, make sure to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep to ensure that your mind and body are well-rested. In addition, make time for regular exercise and physical activity to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Finally, don't forget to eat a balanced diet and stay hydrated to fuel your body and brain for studying.
Relying on One Study Method
Tumblr media
Every aspirant has their own preferred study method, whether it's reading, taking notes, or practicing past papers. However, relying solely on one study method can limit your learning and comprehension.
To overcome this, try diversifying your study methods to engage different parts of your brain. For example, if you're used to reading, try incorporating more visual aids or discussing concepts with peers. Try out various methods of studying until you discover which one suits you the most. By diversifying your study methods, you can improve your understanding and retention of the material.
Negative self-talk can be dangerous to your confidence and motivation. Many aspirants struggle with self-doubt and fear of failure, which can hold them back from reaching their full potential.
To overcome negative self-talk, practice self-compassion and positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on your shortcomings, celebrate your achievements and strengths. Be around friends and family who support you and have faith in your skills. By cultivating a positive mindset and practicing self-love, you can overcome self-doubt and achieve success in your UPSC journey.
Negative Self-Talk - Self-Doubt
Tumblr media
"One important key to success is self-confidence.
An important key to self-confidence is preparation."
                                                                                                  ― Arthur Ashe
Trying to Read Everything
Tumblr media
UPSC aspirants are often overwhelmed by the sheer volume of reading material available. Many aspirants feel pressured to read every book and resource on a given topic, leading to stress and burnout.
To overcome this, focus on quality over quantity when it comes to reading. Prioritize essential books and resources that cover the core concepts and topics of the UPSC syllabus. Take notes as you read to help reinforce your understanding and retention of the material. Remember, it's better to thoroughly understand a few key concepts than to skim/go through numerous resources without grasping the core concepts.
Disorganization can hinder your ability to study effectively and efficiently. Many aspirants struggle to keep track of study materials, deadlines, and important dates.
To overcome this, create a study schedule and organize your study materials in a systematic manner. Use folders, binders, or digital tools to keep your study materials organized and easily accessible. Break down your study schedule into smaller, manageable tasks and set deadlines for each task. By staying organized, you can reduce stress and improve productivity in your UPSC preparation.
Lack of Organization
Tumblr media
“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.”
                                                                                      ― Benjamin Franklin
Misplaced Study Groups
Tumblr media
Study groups can be a valuable resource for UPSC aspirants, providing support, motivation, and shared knowledge. However, not all study groups are created equal, and some aspirants may find themselves in study groups that are not conducive to effective studying.
To overcome this, choose study partners wisely and find individuals who are serious and committed to their UPSC goals. Look for study groups or forums where you can engage with like-minded aspirants who share your dedication and enthusiasm for UPSC preparation. By surrounding yourself with supportive and motivated study partners, you can enhance your learning and stay on track with your UPSC goals.
Overcoming negative habits is essential for UPSC aspirants to succeed in their journey. By implementing simple strategies such as breaking tasks into smaller parts, minimizing distractions, maintaining consistency, prioritizing health, diversifying learning methods, fostering a positive mindset, finding a balance between work and study, focusing on quality reading, staying organized, choosing study partners wisely, using the internet judiciously, and prioritizing sleep, aspirants can navigate through challenges effectively and achieve success in their UPSC preparation. Remember, success in the UPSC examination requires dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to overcome obstacles. Keep pushing forward, stay focused on your goals, and believe in yourself—victory is within reach!

I've just realized that it's almost december 2023 and so I have found it a bit funny that I'm starting this right now, but anyway, I have read in many places that you should give yourself 6 months to notice radical changes in your life, and since I'm currently trying to be more organized and consistent so I can live my dream life, I decided to give it a go :). My goals in a so-very-not-specific-and-concrete list:
Make schedules and stick to them.
Find people with similar goals so that we can motivate each other!
Make creative projects consistently.
Improve my health in all aspects (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, etc).
Also, a few years ago I created some blogs to help myself in the language learning journey with korean, french and german. I really liked it and I would like to be in a place where I can reactivate them and be constant again with them.
I want to do and learn so many things! and I expect that this blog will help me achieve those dreams, so: this blog's main goal is to assist me in the process of staying focused, so I can achieve the THAT girl badge*.
I don't really have an official plan as to what I will be posting about, but I guess it should be interesting information in regards to getting things done, motivational quotes, etc.
Thanks for reading :)
*I found it nice to think that being "that girl" is like a badge from girl scouts haha :), but idk if the concept of "that girl" is the same for everyone, as for myself, it means a woman who prioritizes herself (her health, her peace, her dreams...), and knows, values and honors herself for who she is.
