Our home gym got a little extra love this week. I logged five workouts- and hit my step targets every day.
Unfortunately, I spent the morning preparing a few peanut-butter based treats for the next few weeks. Various combinations I'd seen on TikTok and Facebook. Peanut butter and Greek yogurt bark. Homemade protein bars made of vanilla whey powder, nut butter, and a fine layer of sugar-free dark chocolate.
I'd reduced my intake of peanut butter and other fatty foods in recent weeks, focusing on eating enough protein for optimal muscle repair. Still at a highly reduced carbohydrate threshold. (No cookies, cakes, chips, or even fruit.)
But watch me completely abandon all self control when I've got a giant jar of warm, melted peanut butter in front of me.
I can't even begin to estimate how much I ate this morning, standing at the kitchen counter, with a spoon in the jar.
It was my "off" day at the gym, but I decided another day wouldn't hurt. I would just train different groups of muscles, right?
I fought the urge to jump on the treadmill and punish myself, to try to erase however many hundreds of calories I'd put away.

I'm still, so, so, so fucking scared to say my MCAS is in 'remission' (or as close as you can get with an illness like this), but I just had a gluten-free cupcake with strawberry jam in the middle and a white chocolate ganache on top, and if you'd told me less than four years ago that was a thing I'd be able to eat without going into anaphylaxis and setting myself back months in terms of recovery, I would never have believed you. Hell, a few months ago, I wouldn't have been able to eat this because I wasn't on the right meds.
And today I get to have a little treat with lunch because I feel like it.
