TIM DRAKE NEEDS OUR HELP

I need people NEED THEM, oh baby, oh goodness do I NEED people who don't know much about Tim Drake to stop talking about the Boy Himself: Tim Drake.

Presented: An accurate depiction of an 18-year-old Tim. The over-sized T-Shirt that helps his already lean body make him look skinnier (therefore people would underestimate him, which is part of his personal fighting technique) worn for comfort over anything else adds to it greatly. He does not normally dress fancy, as is sometimes assumed of him. Wearing some of the Robin colors also help.

If you do not know what he looks like, that is fine, that is actually UNDERSTANDABLE. Like what am I to do, pretend I don't know why people don't know what he looks like? After over a decade of him mostly looking like a generic white guy super hero?

Y'all gotta realize, people did not care about Tim for a very long time, because he was basically the D-List Robin since he stopped being the main one. So they never did their research. He wouldn't even be written right. And his relationships and details of his character could change drastically between writing changes. It was awful.

So those that don't know, please try to learn why people sometimes say what they do about Tim. It's not all true, but in this case, it is true. And when we get to see what he's supposed to look like in a real comic, it's very exciting for us, because we don't normally get that excitement anymore.

I know, it's sad just to be happy to see our fav look like themselves, but it's the spot we're in.

Presented: Canon Proof of Tim's appearance, set when Tim was only months away from being EIGHTEEN-YEARS-OLD, he was still being confused for being TWELVE-YEARS-OLD. Showing how he does look for his age.

Like he's SUPPOSED to be VERY SHORT, he's supposed to look lean to the point of seeming skinny in his street clothes, people are supposed to underestimate him (which is why his appearance works so damn well), he's supposed to have a soft 'cute' look to him, especially young looking even for his age as you can see above, that is part of him, one of of his gags is that he's confused to be twelve even when he was nearing eighteen. HE PURPOSELY LOOKS LIKE THAT. It is an ACTIVE choice. It is not a weird thing people just randomly do, it is a purposeful character design choice, made for the character, for him to stand out, and be different from the other characters with.

It is NOT a fanon thing people made to infantilize him. That is just what he looks like. And it is exactly what some real people look like. It is ACTUALLY part of him. It is a CANON part of him. That is brought up so much, because people keep thinking it isn't CANON, when it is CANON.

Presented: A horrible drawing of Tim Drake, during an era that made a lot of people have misconceptions of the character we're only lately getting away from. But some people still believe to be the more accurate Tim, based on when they started reading. DO NOT DO THIS.

All because a lot of artists don't care to draw him right, doesn't mean his appearance miraculously changed within the canon. Or at least it shouldn't have, considering that'd be weird, and take an aspect of the character that made him unique go away. Which is not fun for any character to have them done to them.

So when ever an artist does DRAW him like that, can we gang together and say "HEY, GOOD JOB ARTIST, FOR ACTUALLY LOOKING UP WHAT TIM LOOKS LIKE"

Presented: ANOTHER VERY GOOD TIM. See how he's shorter than his friends (Bart's leaning), has a soft 'cute' face, leaner physique (looking skinny, but not scrawny like he isn't athletic), thick middle parted hair. These are the components of a well drawn Tim that people desire to see more. It will look different based on the art style of course. But these are what makes Tim's appearance suit what we know of Tim, and has been clearly established no matter his age. Here, he is presumably around 17-years-old. Possibly not even a year younger than he currently is.

Because seeing people who see him look different, when it's the right difference, and complain, because they are not aware Tim isn't supposed to look buff and tall and masculine, just because a lot of artists didn't care about who is ultimately at this point a D-List Super Hero...isn't really fair to the people who DO CARE ABOUT IT.

Well, guys, a single person told me I should make this into a post, and so now you're all getting another fabulous take on Thomas Hewitt I've been looking for an excuse to talk about.

Question: 'Do you think realistically would it be hard to get into a relationship with Tommy?'

Short Answer: Yes! And no.

Ha, you really thought there'd be a short answer to this? No, let's dive in.

Thomas, on the surface, is a very awkward, to himself kind of guy. He doesn't like stepping out of his comfort zones, and he hates change. He thrives on strict routine, and isn't one to do something without being told. (ex: he doesn't take initiative at the slaughterhouse, he does exactly as he's told and doesn't stray from those rules)

He has an extremely strong sense of familial bond and ties to his family, he wouldn't betray them for anything, (and yes, that includes you too). It's a huge cultural things in small towns. It doesn't matter who your family is or what they've done. It's true ride or die mentality.

Considering these things, if you want to hope to have a relationship with him, you're gonna have to take up their lifestyle. Every part of it.

If you've ever been to an old southern woman's house, you know how insulting it is to refuse food. It's practically the same thing as spitting on their shoes and slapping them in the face. If you refuse a home cooked meal, especially when you're still considered a 'guest' in the house, you will end up on their bad side.

And Thomas is a Mama's boy, through and through, if his mother doesn't like you, he doesn't like you.

And that mentality is only doubled for the Hewitts. Their family has starved, and if you've ever struggled for food, you understand why they won't let it happen again. I could go into a whole in depth analysis on the Hewitt family and their cannibalism, but let's get back to Tommy.

Thomas doesn't trust people easily. It's in their family, in his blood. The Hewitts (especially after they start murdering people) are suspicious and unforgiving people. People will often assume that they became isolated after the town died out and everyone left, but in reality, they were isolated long before that, as Luda Mae, Hoyt, and even Monty (though much less than the other two) wouldn't tolerate Tommy's mistreatment and abuse.

And as for Thomas' personal distrust, I can almost guarantee there were several times people would pretend to be his friend or even go as far as 'asking him out' only to immediately burst into laughter and mock him the moment he got excited.

Now, he's much more closed off and distrusting of strangers kindness and friendliness.

...But, he's a huge romantic.

He absolutely loves the idea of having someone to love.

His favorite books Luda Mae would read to him as a child were the princess stories. He would dream of being the prince charming, saving the princess from the retched beast so they could get married and live happily ever after.

But, as he got older, he started believing he was better fit for the role of the filthy monster that never falls in love.

Packaging all this up into one neat present, you get a pretty clear idea of what kind of man Thomas is.

So, how does one actually end up in a relationship with him?

It's simple! In the most complicated way possible.

First, is actually meeting him in a none murderer-victim setting, because once you hit that area, there's really no going back. If he's told you're next, you're next.

He's going to be really suspicious of you, no matter what you do really. Even if you do become 'friends', he's a rather anxious man, and he's going to have doubts for a long time.

You're going to have to get on everyone's good side. Like I said before, he cares deeply about his family and their opinions, and being around them and accepted by them is a non-negotiable. And I don't just mean Luda Mae, I mean everyone, including Monty and Hoyt.

Speaking of Hoyt, that will have it's own ground rules as well.

Thomas, despite being a big hunk of a man who could easily toss around someone twice Hoyt's weight, is not the man of the house. Hoyt is like a father figure to him, and he looks up to him. Well, not in every way, but you get the picture.

He isn't going to take well to you bad-mouthing Hoyt. Of course, he doesn't care if you want to rant about the man's annoying presence sometimes, but it depends on how close the two of you are and what you're saying.

If you try to accuse the man of being abusive, or not caring about his family, Thomas isn't going to like it. Hoyt is a mean hothead, sure, and by today's standards, most people probably would consider him abusive to a certain extent, but this is a small southern town in the 1970s.

Hell, most of the 'abusive' traits Hoyt show are still practiced in small towns to this day, and are considered normal behavior. Again, I could go into a whole spiel about Hoyt's character and actions, but I'll get to the point.

If there is one thing true about Hoyt, it's that he cares about his family. Every action he takes is in their interest, and he'd put his life on the line to keep them safe, including Thomas. Hell, he protected Tommy as a kid just as much as Luda Mae did.

So, yea, really any bad talk about his family is going to get you on his bad side.

But, let's say that you follow these rules, and you mesh well with his family and him, how long will it take for Tommy to actually catch feelings for you?

...Pretty much almost immediately.

Thomas is reserved and untrusting, yes, but he catches crushes faster than a Tommy-hater can catch these hands. (for reference, that's really fast)

He's a sweetheart, and eager to be loved and accepted, so the irrational, romantic side of his brain eager hops on the Y/N train the moment you show him any real affection.

But as for actually loving you? That's going to take a really long time.

Luda Mae always raised him on the idea that love can't exist without trust, and he takes that to the extreme. He literally won't consider a relationship with you until he can completely trust you with his whole heart.

And once that trust is earned and the two of you become 'official', that's it. He's in it for life. In his eyes, you're the only one for him, and he takes that belief to heart. So it is extremely important that you only enter the relationship when you're 100% ready. He won't understand the concept of needing a 'break', or time apart. Once you're in it, you're in it, and if you ever leave, there's no coming back, and Thomas will leave your life entirely, with the rest of the Hewitts shunning you as a result.

Because of this, it's also important to remember that there really is no such thing as 'harmless' flirting with Thomas. He doesn't understand the concept of friendly flirting. He's either going to assume that you're mocking him or that you actually do have feelings for him.

Communication is a huge key with this man!!! He doesn't pick up well on hints or social cues. Be up front of and honest about you're feelings or he will have no idea how you really feel, and it'll only cause heartbreak and confusion in the long run.

As soon as your lips touch, he stills. A thousand questions run through his mind, and greedy for an answer, he continues to place eager kisses on your face. It tastes so familiar, but its nearly the last thing on his mind.

He could get addicted to the taste of your lips, he thinks. Will hum curiously and keep you pressed against him, rendering you unable to get away.

Even when you push him, desperate for a breath of air, his lips will without a fail chase yours. Would probably shamelessly lick you if he's feeling more playful. He'd definitely lick his own lips after the two of you separate, how evil.

Kalim is a lover of PDA. He wants everyone to know how much he loves you, and vice versa! kisses, hugs, hand holding, nothing is entirely off the table when it comes to you. It's how he greets you and says goodbye, one of the main ways to communicate the near suffocating amount of affection he holds for you and those he holds very dear.

But as soon as you start adding lip balm with specific flavouring, expect his kiss attacks to become increasingly more frequent— and by that, i mean, it's the only thing he can think about.

"What flavour is it today?"

"I hope it's the one from yesterday again!"

Kalim wouldn't mind any other choices of flavours you would choose, but you can tell how much more longing his stares get when you use the coconut one, saved for special occasions.

You can encourage him using this ( Jamil recommended, ) for rewards in tests, mock exams, finishing homework on time, or simply by doing well in class. It will work very efficiently, unsurprisingly so, and by consequence— expect a nod of approval from the vice housewarden every once and awhile.

He'll wonder absentmindedly during class, only brought back by Jamil's book snapping shut beside him. He can only smile sheepishly and apologise.

But if the prospect of being rewarded for his due diligence is on the table, he'd be remarkably concentrated and very passionate on the basis of schoolwork. Though, Kalim is still Kalim, so make sure to bring him back down to earth if his mind wanders. If classes are out, its free game in his books!

Anytime he'd see you, he would, without a doubt, steal kisses from you— whether it's in passing due to him being in a hurry or simply doing it distractedly. It's as if a switch had been flipped inside of him, and a deep craving of the syrupy taste of you is all he can think about.

"When did you buy this? do you have any more of it?"

Assuming that you would tell him it was simply an offhanded purchase, or a one time thing, he'd stare at you curiously, before nodding resolutely. You'd do well to remember that look, as it usually means that an incredible amount of money is about to be spent.

Kalim will make sure that you have a very large stock worth of flavoured lip balm or Chapstick always at the ready. He's giddy, nearly vibrating with excitement as he watched you pick them out at Sam's shop. If there isn't anything that catches your eye, don't worry! he'll contact his parents and get a couple crates fully stocked imported and sent straight to ramshackle.

If by some stroke of luck— or misfortune, Kalim is more mischievous that day, he will whine and pout; yet won't say anything. He'll expect you to already know what he wants, simply by his mood. Better give him those kisses he clearly yearns so much for.

Will follow you around with those wide eyes of his, trailing closely behind you like a lost puppy. The display is just so adorable, you can't help but shower him with all the kisses he wants; smooshing the apple of his cheeks.

Coconut is his favourite flavour, and you're one of his favourite people; so Kalim thinks it's the best of both of his most prized worlds.

He's very indulgent by nature, and he'll definitely take advantage of your willingness and play into your love for him in exchange for more sweet tasting kisses. It's your fault you got him addicted to the taste of you, y'know? make sure to take responsibility.

Riddle Rosehearts, Strawberry.

"Don't just kiss me out of nowhere! what? huh...there's something different?"

In common riddle fashion when it comes to physical affection, he'll completely freeze up, body going stock still.

His face is rapidly gaining a red hue, and it threatens to take over his entire face. It feels to him, and looks to you; that his brain has completely shut off, as its not exactly sure how to respond to your straightforward affections.

You gotta let him know before you kiss him, lest this happens. Sure, it seems funny, and you might get a little chuckle out of it, but riddle doesnt like to feel like hes being made fun of. Occasional teasing is alright in his books, but he's very tight strung outside of your relationship and may sometimes find it difficult to tone it down.

If he were to ask for one, there would have to be a lot of prerequisites needed in order for it to happen. Not being a fan of PDA, you would have to be alone; and of course, you'd have to ask first. It's not that riddle doesn't want your affection, that's very far from it.

He is very starved for touch and affection, due to his very strained relationship with his mother. Unfortunately because of that, Riddle doesn't know how to receive affection-- be it in gifts or in the physical sense. He's glad you remembered his favourite flavour, and will compliment you shyly on your memory; he expects nothing but the best from his partner, after all.

He'll be very nervous if you kiss him randomly, but will notice that something is different awhile after he manages to reboot himself appropriately.

Being extremely observant, ( not to mention the fact that since he's not exactly allowed to have sweets, he will notice the delicious taste almost instantly. ) It'll be addressed, but only after a confused and blush ridden riddle scolds you, of course.

Riddle has a hidden sweet tooth, and doesn't get to indulge in it very often, so he may start seeking you out in the hallways, and drag you to an empty corridor or classroom, and ask for a kiss. Maybe if he felt more bold, he would wordlessly ask for permission before taking what he wants.

"Is it...is it on, today?"

he couldn't dare meet your eyes, it's taking a lot out of him to even ask! Riddle was taught to not be selfish, but maybe it's okay if it's with you, right? He'd cough into his fist, and give you a peck. It's up to you if you want to deepen the kiss ( he wouldn't complain,) or keep them simple in scale. Riddle won't outright say it, lest he wants to embarrass himself— but he sometimes catches himself watching your glossy lips whenever you speak.

Whenever you lick them, he yearns to taste it off of you; but knows to restrain himself. His kisses are shy, and he quickly learns to relish the delicious taste that rests on your lips. In due time, the more comfortable riddle is with you through the journey of your relationship, he'll become more eager, and show more vulnerability intimacy wise. He may let out a small whine into your lips and shut his eyes tight, embarrassed to lock eyes with your own during such a moment.

Perhaps ingesting lip balm so continuously isn't the best for his system, so he advises you to not wear it all the time. Even though he could just— not kiss you all the time when you're wearing it. He's tempted to collar you for that thought.

Dorm members will comment on their housewardens behaviour offhandedly, 'he seems less ... him?' or rather, the version that they're essentially used to seeing, at the very least. Your kisses are always slow and delicate, as if you're afraid riddle would break if you pushed him too far. He prefers to not be taken lightly due to his stature, and will encourage you to not play softly with him all the time— his manly pride is important!

But Riddle knows that you want to cherish the moments that the both of you are able to be physically intimate like this for as long as he’ll let you. The pleasant calming scent from the scented balm and the tempting taste of your lips helps relax him a lot more than he had initially thought. Expect his mood to be a lot less capricious than it used to be— Trey and Heartslabyul as a whole is very grateful to you. Its a very small change in his eyes, but in an outsider's perspective, it's major. Don't expect any further leniency on rule breaking, though.

Malleus Draconia, Ice cream

“You really remembered?”

Depending on how far along your relationship with malleus is, he'd be hard pressed to either do one of two things; cling onto you constantly and follow you, or practically have to restrain himself physically so he doesn't always seek you out.

Lillia told him some people prefer when their partners aren't always around them, and in common draconian fashion, took those words very seriously in assuming you and everyone else were the same way. Malleus is quite lonely, so don't take it too much to heart if he happens to cling onto a bit too much. You're the only one aside from his family that he's been able to confide in, whether it be about his emotional insecurity or physical— and with that comes the responsibility of reassuring him every now and again. He won't tell you, of course, but if you're observant enough to notice it, make sure to not leave that alone, lest it escalates.

With the array of peculiarity twisted wonderland holds as a whole, you'd be surprised if you didn't find anything of odd origins at the mystery shop. So spotting the ice cream flavoured lip balm on a shelf is the least astonishing thing you've experienced so far. Don't look too deep into the logic side of things, and buy it! And subsequently, malleus would notice the change by the smell alone. He yearns to be near you and prefers to not take any opportunities when he is for granted. So, when he catches a whiff of a scent he's very familiar with that isn't your natural one, his interest is immediately peaked.

“Something smells different about you today.”

He would sniff you to pinpoint it, As he knows that the scent is on you, but wishes to know exactly where it is. Stopping at your face, his eyes bore into yours, and he'll expect an answer. Tap your lips, or if you'd say it verbally, it would most likely end the same way. A smile would paint his face, a soft crease in his eyes— he's amused.

“Human inventions are incredibly peculiar. How amusing...”

He'd whisper before sealing your lips with his own, greedily and shamelessly licking the seam of your mouth slowly. Make sure to tell him if it's too much, he'll stop, of course, but will expect more. He's overjoyed ( silently ) that you recalled his favourite food and thought of him enough to buy something that he liked. Don't be surprised when small trinkets, stunning gems and miscellaneous items find their way to your hands, in return. Malleus wants you to know, and will try his best to make it very clear that he thinks about you as much as you do him— if not more.

If malleus wants a peck, or a kiss in between classes, or during a late night walk, he'll tap his lips— as you did before.

It'll become a bit of a signal for you both to speak the words that you, or he may be too nervous to speak aloud at times. Malleus is the prince of chivalry, and will always make sure your consent is spoken for whenever physical intimacy like that is present; the last thing he wants to do is potentially hurt you or make you uncomfortable in any way shape or form.

Once the first encounter is done with, expect a very disgruntled pair of knights to ask you where their young master is— his sneaking away has gotten incredibly worse as of late! Don't say anything too obvious, or show them the note he wrote you with a location sprawled on the back of it to them. Sebek is very skeptical when told you have nothing to do with it, but Silver and Lillia will work to reassure him and get off your back. Just make sure they never catch you kissing! though one would be more aghast than the rest, to be fair.

His kisses are delicate, yet hold an undertone of soft eagerness, be aware that he can, and will nip at your lips to tease. Due to his duties as future heir, be prepared to be bombarded with affection by malleus when all is said and done. You're his reprieve, his haven outside of the world that seems to do nothing but fear him— and he cherishes you more than you could possibly ever know. Expect very slow sessions of smooching, and a heavy sigh to leave him as he visibly deflates in your hold, arms wrapped around you.

I was thinking of what might be fun to write for dcxdp, I thought I might be able to hash something out as I drove home from work earlier...

Listening to a random Spotify playlist that contained 'two' songs right after each other.. (this will come up later)

'Leatherwing'

My mind went about updating leatherwing to include all the bats and birds. Then it went to how I'd introduce danny.

Danny, who learnt he was a mermaid when he was 14, after being knocked overboard unconcious, into the port he fell, getting brained by a stray lumber spar, caught in fouled rigging and then dragged over the side by dead weight all on accident by his port-friend sam.

He didn't drown, but it took a while to wake up then realising you were staring at the underside of the ships keel.

not a good thing to discover when your parents hunt mermaids and other mythical creatures. "Dangerous creatures danno my boy, once you anger a mermaid best ready yourself because they don't forgive easily!"

Even worse when they're constantly travelling by ship with their benefactors: the GIW (the gentlemen in white).

A privately sponsored armada of hunters: whether their prey is pirates, mermaids or any creature they consider a threat, you don't want to be hunted by them!

So danny, doing his best to not be caught but still learn what he's capable of, learning how to use his voice to stun and enchant... finally he gets discovered freeing their captives.

He has to flee and flee he does, escaping them and striking out on his own.

(I assume jazz stays in Port and isn't aware of what's currently happened-away at 'college')

Sometime in the future though, constantly dodging his parents attempts to track him whenever he comes to a port, Danny happened upon captain leatherwings pirateship.

He follows them as a mermaid, watching them work. Sometimes they attacked a ship and other times they fled, being chased by pirate hunters but never caught! It was fascinating to watch despite the danger of being seen (he's seen).

At night he'd wrap himself around the rudder and hum or quietly sing listening to the ocean, hoping another mermaid would answer his call (he's never met another)

One day as leatherwing's ship, the flying fox. Starts to sail into port, danny hears them say they will put up a request for new crew (some leaving, some died).

Danny slips away ahead of them to shore, stealing some dry clothes (without holes to look presentable) and camps out at the inn by the docks looking for hire.

It takes some work but Danny gets hired on, excited to be among people again. He's introduced to the crew and does his best to fit in, it becomes apparent some of the long term crew are more then just crew, they act just like family...

Danny gets close to them, curious about their relationships with each other. One night (I'm picking cass for this but it could be anyone) he finds 'orphan-blackblade' sitting on the stern of the ship.

her feet through the railing on the back trying to hum a strange tune that sounds familiar, another of the crew sees Danny watching and laughs, 'orphan doesn't talk, but she sits on the back of the boat every night listening to the 'music of the sea' (you do the math)

That would continue building a relationship at a pace but now, we come to the part where danny is revealed.

leatherwing and the flying fox is attacked by the GIW who stumbled on them looking for danny with whatever dark magic's they use to track him. This coincides with a storm approaching and as the battle rages Danny gets pinned under water by debris and is forced to start transforming.

He breaks free and seeing the fight going poorly tries to help using his cry to shock the GIW, it works. This is where things get a little angst as the flying fox crew don't recognise danny as a mermaid...

Danny seeing the mainmast of the GIW ship coming down tackles orphan out of the way but in saving her gets attacked by her and everyone else forcing him to take her hostage to save himself and flee, whisking her away into the dark of the stormy sea.

(Awkward timing, forcing me to decide which was the priority: getting my ace asses mind out of the gutter or keeping my car wheels out of the gutter as I did some specific driving on the freeway to avoid some surprise gridlock traffic ahead!)

So play that song and imagine pirate!cass waking up in a cave of an unknown island being stared down at by an angry, shirtless, very familiar looking mermaid who you'd just stabbed...

My brain while trying to drive:

The second song was: fin- ship in a bottle

What comes to mind (as I was now stuck in gridlock) is an angry danny fighting back as leatherwing tries to find his daughter orphan after she was taken by a mermaid that suddenly attacked them during the fight.

He tore the knowledge from them on how they tracked the mermaid, learnt the consequences of using the magic, forced them off the ship because they were now 'deadweight', cast the magic and set sail.

Torn between thinking this means the vestiges ship them, or that it means the quirk itself is a very excitable puppy dog that wants Tenya around as much as possible...

1- Tenya did not make a great first impression on 5/7.5 vestiges. Kudo and Bruce were like 'let 👏 him 👏 speak 👏' because they do, you know, kinda think Izuku's annoying but they sorta all did a 180° turn about him after the exam when Tenya apologized and praised Izuku's choice. Most of them like him. Bruce and Kudo are wondering how this kid keeps getting people to decide to like him after all.

2- OfA reacts differently under Izuku's hands, but he never realizes it because he assumes it's his own emotions and projecting. Yeah, his quirk feels jumpy and volatile around Kacchan like he could set it off and blow up his arm too easily, and fun and bubbly around Uraraka who's sure he'll figure out how to use it soon, and ok Izuku isn't sure why OfA races up to his skin faster around Iida, pushy, but maybe it's because he feels competitive with his friend.

3- The vestiges are actually in agreement for once when Izuku looks at Tenya at the train station. That Kid Is Going To Try To Commit Murder (and probably die in the attempt). "Is that what I looked like the last time you saw me alive?" Kudo asks Bruce. "No. But it's what I looked like to Shinomori." They want to help him. They want Izuku to help him. Izuku wants to help him. But they can't do anything except try to bend the power into something Izuku can actually use, and hope it's enough when the kid jumps off the train to find Tenya.

4- Nana, romantic she is, keeps getting excited when it seems they might lean in closer, might take each other's hands. Kudo asks if she and her husband were high school sweethearts to have such optimistic expectation of such a relationship, but Banjo says that dang it, Izuku at least deserves boyfriend even if they split after school, and Yoichi who has little concept of school and had a max relationship length of two months just wants them to confess already. Tenya's admiration is clear to everyone in Izuku's head except Izuku, and they can feel the boy's heartbeat in return. But sadly, they can't do anything while Izuku can't hear them... But, once he can...

5- "Good job training today, you'll master Float as soon as it comes to you at this rate!" Nana cheers Izuku in his dreams. He blushes, still unable to talk in the fog, but they figured out how to have him write in a notebook while he's there. "Hey, you know, White Day is coming up. Any plans? I can help you make something." Izuku raises his eyebrows because he's been warned Nana is a bit of a lethal chef, and also he's already made plans to make chocolate in return for his classmates, and more than triple the chocolate covered apple slices Eri was so excited to present him with a month ago. "I mean, other than Eri and the courtesy chocolate. Any confession plans?" Izuku starts waving his hands because he didn't get any confession chocolate and haha, why would he need to give any now, and En just sighs and breaks in with a "they need a third day for gay chocolate, bet Iida-kun would have made something for you then."

Izuku is eventually cajoled into making some orange chocolate treats for Tenya, only because he'd have plausible deniability that he just wanted to gift to his friends, but then Tenya presents him with All Might shaped chocolates and admits that maybe they are not purely platonic but that he still highly values Midoriya's friendship and would never mention the feelings again if he didn't want them and completely understands rejection and truly he- wait he didn't get rejected? Wait, it's the same for Midoriya? Both of them are very red, but happy. They don't really change much, neither is one for pda and calling each other their boyfriend feels like A Lot, but they do share food more often and move to calling each other by their given name in a manner that is adorably both shy and excited. But ah, we're halfway through March, and at the end of the month...

A couple weeks later, Izuku tapes letters to the doors of his classmates, then packs a bag to go, not planning on returning to the dorms again. He picks up the little bag of All Might chocolates that he'd slowly been going through. There's only two left. He slips them into the side pocket of his bag, then slips himself out of his window and down the building to leave campus, the vestiges silent around him and his quirk burning to go back when he can't.

Ok, I'm not good at all with sappy stuff but let me give it a try. @blubushie (for mention of sniper. go crazy buddy.)

Demo: Demo is very emotionally backed up so it would take him a good long while for him to actually understand the deeper meaning of the poem. But when he does he wont really know how to react. He'd sort of stand around and wait for his S/O to ask him about it again so he could give them praises while he hugs them. If the opportunity doesn't arrive he'd probably try and write one back (badly) so they can bring it up.

Engie: Engie would start a little war between him and his partner. Its a gesture game baby and this man is king of subtlety. Though for love he's a bit of a show off. The more heated this fluffy little competition gets the more he amps it up. He's likely gonna try and show off with an invention or a song that'll knock the socks off of his S/O. Then he'd feel accomplished enough to lie down with 'em and whisper just how much all that stuff meant.

Heavy: Heavy is very poetic himself, though its a lot harder for him to explain it in English. Theres a lot of metaphor in his work he would have to explain to his S/O and thats easier said than done. He's very much a show don't tell sort of guy so why would he be any different in delivery. If they speak Russian rest assured that letter will return every bit of love reflected at him.

Medic: Oh boy Lutz would tease them so hard, he's so mean but he loves them very much. He's not at all used to this fluffy stuff and would scoff if anyone else did it. But with them? Of course he loves the goofy prose and obvious infatuation they have with him, how could he not? He loves every bit of the attention and will make sure to prove it by being plenty affectionate throughout the week.

Pyro: Pyro almost goes too far in excitement, theres likely a chance that Pyro just saw the Letter P followed by a heart in their bedroom and just about pranced with glee. Pyro is the type to parade their partner around proudly showing off how much they love each other. This ends up with half finished love poems strung around the room that the two encourage each other to finish.

Scout: Scout is an absolute dweeb but he'd try to play it cool by insisting that it was only expected of him to get 'fanmail'. Truth be told though Scout would melt into the floor from a kiss to the cheek by someone who he can actually call his partner. So this gesture is returned the very next day by a goddamn tsunami of gifts at their house.

Sniper: Sniper doesn't know how to react to this at all? He isn't sure why its necessary, and its hard for him to understand, but its the thought that counts. He's conflicted for a while about why exactly they'd want to tell him how they feel in writing. He's ultimately very confused but he keeps it pinned to the inside of his vest or tucked neatly into one of his pockets to keep their words on him. (He's grown on me thanks to someone I know.)

Soldier: Soldier doesn't get it but he's a big enough doofus to love it anyway. He seems like the type of guy who only ever really got valentines cards for parties. So if his S/O wrote him something he'f for sure cherish it. Even if he didn't fully understand the point or its meanings. He's a lot like Drax from Gardians of the Galaxy.

Spy: Very bold of his S/O to assume he's going to be the only one receiving love letters. Its very likely Spy knew very well before hand that they were going to be making him one so he thought ahead and got them presents and a letter of his own to be prepared. This cheeky and clever asshole!

okay, imagine eddie super quiet (nothing common to expect from him to the situation that was to come) on the boys to be 'choosing' the weekend sport game instead of the night of games with the club, and then scaring everyone, he just says it was considerable to reschedule, without questioning his abrupt behavior, the club as a whole agrees. just so then,,, on the night of the school game, when both dustin and mike would be there for lucas, eddie would be present, pulling some nasty looks and comments at him (which he wouldn't mind a bit because he'd only be there for you!), he would stop next to the boys, who would be confused to see him there just before the end of the game (like, seriously, what would eddie be doing there?), but as soon as they fired questions at him, they would see eddie's face lighting up when waving forward... following his gaze, they would find you smiling and bouncing looking at him as happy as he is that you both are seeing each other. the still paralyzed boys would watch with agape as you run to eddie and throw yourself into his arms (yes, eddie would lift you up in the air and spin you around!), you would kiss him briefly and still glued to him you would look at the boys (you would know that they didn't know about you yet because it was recent and both you and eddie were being reserved as far as possible) and would say an excited "hi", they would ignore it and look at eddie (who would clearly have his bright eyes all over you) and ask together "reader's getting paid for this, right?" or "no way in hell you got Y/N to be with you, that's a gamble, isn't it?" directed at you. you would laugh, as would eddie who would probably make some joke about it. and still not letting them understand, you'd just turn around and ask if they want to have lunch with you after the game... they would still appear shocked by you talking to them (like, they would know you were nice, you were friends with nancy - probs dustin's crush for a while- and they'd know that even though you weren't labeled as a freak that you were cool) and then eddie would agree to think it's great that they could come with you and they'd accept it still absercing you like that's the craziest thing that could happen as watching eddie kissing your cheek quickly, then rubbing his curls into your face for you to laugh before you go back to your dancing thing... and yes, more questions would be fired at eddie about you and the whole relationship as soon as you're not around!!!

I think if I wrote this, I would probably use a Price from before Roach, Ghost, and Soap died, however, if we assume it was the one from the very end of mw3? Ooooo boy the angst.

First of all, Gaz? He's sobbing already. Literally crying.

Gaz was essentially the first one that he "adopted." They had a super close relationship in the first life and this Gaz was almost like Soap's playful older brother. I think when Gaz died, a piece of Price genuinely died with him. I also think he never allowed himself to properly mourn and instead threw himself back into work.

Any part of him that was ever going to show mercy to terrorists/those that he went after was gone with Gaz. So I think seeing that this Price, this other version of himself still has his Gaz. That this Gaz is still alive? I think it drags up old memories, old feelings. Things that he never let himself fully process.

The more time he spends with Present! Gaz, the more he realizes how similar he is to his Gaz. He doesn't say anything to Gaz, but he definitely pulls this other version of himself to the side and tells him to keep an eye on Gaz. To make sure that nothing bad happens to him. He warns him that if Gaz dies, a piece of him goes to.

Present! Price already knew that if Gaz died, a piece of him would too, but he see's this broken and empty version of himself and is able to realize for the first time what that would actually look like.

Moving to Ghost and Roach. I think with them is more of a moderate reaction. He didn't really know either of them too well when he died, but he had already started caring for them. I think it makes him feel better to see them both happy in this new life.

However, with Roach specifically, I also think it would make him a bit sad. While he didn't know Roach very well, he knew him long enough to pick out how energetic, excitable, and happy the lad was. He see's this Roach, weighed down by two lives, and without even knowing that he can tell that something is different. He can see that this Roach isn't the same. That he's sadder. None of the Present! 141 are able to pick up on this because they never knew Roach without his memories plaguing him and Roach is very good at hiding those feelings.

Price ends up talking to Roach about the first life after he finds out that he remembers. He tells him about how he and Soap had gone after Shepherd as revenge. About killing Shepherd. About Yuri. About Soap's death. He tells him all of it and, despite how it obviously makes Roach sad, he also see's the relief it brings the younger man when he finally has a concrete idea of what had happened after he died.

I think Soap pulls the biggest reaction from him. I imagine he would literally not even think before pulling him into a hug. I feel like he would probably apologize to him. He knows it isn't his Soap, but it helps him in some odd way to finally get to say those words and apologize to any version of Soap.

He's ecstatic to see how happy Soap is in this new world. Absolutely fully understands why Soap is still only a Sergeant: "have no idea how the one from my life ever became Captain of a team"

Spends so much time around Soap and Gaz it isn't even funny. Just takes the opportunity to be around these people that he lost in whatever form that he can. Even if he knows it won't last. Even if he knows they aren't his Soap and Gaz. It doesn't matter.

As for him and Present! Price? Lowkey just think they'd hit each other with the:

"I'm Vlad Masters's son and I came to Amity because I got a letter stating that my father was killed under mysterious circumstances and you two seem like people of interest."

No, he shouldn't start with that, felt too accusatory too quickly and could tip Danny off that he does have something of a grudge against his parents, which would mean that he'd lose the boy's trust.

"Hello! I'm Vlad Masters's son and I originally came here because I'm an aspiring crypto-zoologist with an interest in ectobiology, so naturally I figured that the most haunted town on earth had a few colleges with good courses in the subject."

Good, good, it's not perfect yet but it's certainly better than murder accusation. And the Fentons would be more likely to open up to him if they assumed he was fascinated in their field. Now to explain why and how they've never seen him in their lives before, not even as a picture...

"Uh.. Nice to meet you too?" The teenager in the gold, white, and green sweater wheezed while being crushed.

"Oops! Sorry about that." The big Jack put the small Jack down and wiped his eyes while the teen brushed his sweater off. "I guess I got a little too excited..."

"No worries, mind if I come in? I think your family and I have a lot to talk about."

"Sam and Tucker, tell them either the core was destroyed due to a mishap or that shortly after he reformed, Jack and Maddie gunned him down for good. Either way, I know they want me dead and if they already believe that I am, they won't try to kill me. I may not know the full picture of why I'm being hunted down and treated like the scum of the earth, but I don't want to be destroyed!"

"...Did you catch them breaking into your house when you went home last night and thought that they wanted to kill you in your sleep? Because if so, that wasn't the plan." Danny wrung his hands with a nervous smile.

"...You know what? Forget it, that's not the important take away here." He shook his head. "The important thing is that this" he gestured to his own body. "Cannot be reversed. The only way for me to grow back up that I know of is the natural flow of time. Which means that I need to both fake my own death and fake my own new life."

"Okay, that sounds... reasonable, but what do we have to do with that?"

"You two can't tell anyone else that I'm alive, not even your friends who you might trust but I certainly don't. I know they won't buy that I'm actually my own estranged son which is why my cover story for them is that I'm a clone designed to play 'undertaker'. You know, that I just exist to handle all the chaos that normally would've come up without a death plan in mind as well as destroy all evidence that Vlad has supernatural abilities after his death and may or may not just melt into nothing imminently after the Job's done?"

"...I hate that that's a plausible thing you- Er, past you would do." Danny groaned.

Vlad gave him an unamused look which was easy to read even with the face mask.

"What about our mom?" Jazz raised an eyebrow.

"...What about her? She can't be trusted with the truth or the clone story."

"Not that, I'm curious, do you still have any strong feelings towards her?"

"Yes: Fear. I feel very strong feelings of fear." Vlad nodded. "And other various and hard-to-name emotions too, but those are in the background. If you're worried about me lusting after her then don't. I know that even boiled down to our very essences as people, we're completely incompatible as a couple."

"So J-Kid, tell us about yourself." Her husband gave the guest a warm smile. "What got you interested in Crypto-zoology?"

"Mostly morbid curiosity. I grew up hearing about sightings of strange creatures, both alien and terrestrial and I wanted to know more about them. What evolutionary niches are they supposed to fill? How intelligent are they? Are they sentient and sapient? And regarding my interest in ectobiology, with the existence of ghosts being proven real, how many of the cryptids on earth are living, breathing creatures that we know very little of and how many are ghosts of the entities they once were? ...I figured if I could tell the difference between ghost biology and living entity biology, it would come in handy with some of my questions."

"Well if you're up for an internship here, we'd be more than happy to teach you everything we know about ghost biology!" Jack beamed.

"Thank you for the offer Mr. Fenton, I'll think about it while settling in to town."

"And do you have a place to stay? ...Specifically, a place you feel safe staying at?" Maddie inquired.

"Yes, don't worry, I plan on staying with Vladimir. It's going to be my first time meeting him since the divorce so I'm both nervous about it and excited."

"The divorce..?" She repeated, surprised, but not sure what she should be surprised about. Maybe the fact Vlad got married in the first place?

"Yes, from what I can tell about it it was really messy and mom was pretty spiteful about it, not giving an inch while taking miles, refusing to let him see me, spreading bad rumors... I'm not surprised he never really told anyone about me, I bet he didn't want to talk about the whole thing. It kinda feels weird calling a man I've never met my dad though..."

Okay, so whatever the kid's been through wasn't directly caused by Vlad... He's safe from her mama bear wrath for now.

"Well I'm sure you two will get along just fine, why, you and V-Man even have the same favorite football team! Sure moving's always hard to adjust to, but you have nothing to worry about regarding your old man, okay?"

"Got it, thanks Mr. Fenton. And thanks for the breakfast" Vlad weakly smiled.

"Dang..." Tucker leaned against the bus stop. "I mean, I never liked the guy... but really? That's how the cookie crumbled instead of some epic final battle?"

"Are you sure? It feels too... convenient." Sam spoke up. "He just falls apart and that's it? He's done and dealt with?"

"No! But just.. I think we should keep our guards up. He could be faking it so he can go lick his wounds somewhere before ambushing us."

Undead Unluck ch.168 thoughts REDO!

The bulk of this week's review wasn't directly related to Undead Unluck, so I'm going to delete that one and rework it into its own standalone post later. This post is going to start the same as before, but now it's going to address a point I meant to talk about and simply forgot because I got sidetracked

So, once again:

HIGH SCHOOL! AU! HIGH SCHOOL! AU!

Man, this was one of the funniest chapters in a long time, from Fuuko ripping open Shen's eye to force Untruth onto Feng to Feng realizing that he's been reduced to a gym teacher and won't get to fight anyone, I was laughing start to finish

I really needed it, too, I was having a rough day at work (when normally Jump day is my day off...), and this chapter cheered me right up!

Shen and Mui's relationship developing into an actual romance of course was a great way to start us off, and seeing Fuuko continue to wrap Feng around her finger gives me great hope for how his character is going to interact with the story going forward, but of course the real meat of this chapter was the Union infiltrating Chikara's school

I'm sure that Tozuka will think of a way to actually incorporate everyone into the plot to save Chikara's parents, but man...do they really need to be here? I think that any one of them would be sufficient to stop a truck from hitting some pedestrians, and yet here everyone is, wearing costumes and faking credentials to get close to an underage boy

Boy, sounds bad when you put it like that...

Anyway, of course this is the mission that Fuuko is the most excited about. Fuuko's greatest regret is that she couldn't live a normal school life, so while this is clearly wholly unnecessary to helping Chikara, it's absolutely vital to Fuuko to do this. I imagine it's going to help endear the group to Chikara, too, but this isn't really about him. It's the one truly selfish thing that I think Fuuko is going to be doing in the series, and she deserves it! Treat yourself, girl!!!

And again, there is no need for her to bring everyone else along if she just wants to play high schooler. But let's be honest, there was no way she wasn't going to bring them along. Not only would she want all of her loved ones to be present for what is going to be the most important side quest of her life, but consider this: NO ONE ELSE HERE HAD A NORMAL LIFE EITHER!

Shen and Mui grew up on the street, Billy's been a mercenary for lord knows how long, Sean was in the cartel! I could go on! Sure, a lot of them probably went to high school normally and had these experiences already, but their lives have been screwed up for so long by this point that it'd definitely be good for them to have a taste of normality. Not even just by virtue of being Negators, the way that everyone here has lived their lives has simply been abnormal, so letting them have normal jobs and normal friends is a great way for them to get a basic idea of how their lives could look once everything with God is resolved. Many of them likely won't choose a life like that, but still, having that perspective could really change the trajectory of their lives by expanding their horizons

I just think it's a shame that so many other characters don't get to be here. Sure, world-famous boxing champion Void Volks and American military captain Creed wouldn't make much sense to be here, but c'mon...you did this arc BEFORE recruiting Tatiana?!

The other girl who missed her entire adolescence??? The other girl who can never touch another person??? THE GIRL WHO CHIKARA HAS A CRUSH ON??? She would have been perfect! ...Assuming that she won't be stuck in Sphere this time...oh god, that's probably why, she's still going to be in Sphere and wouldn't be able to go to school...

Also sad that Andy can't be here, but it was established LOOONG ago that he can't pass for a kid in this very school, so while it would be nice to see Fuuko and Andy play high school sweethearts, it would definitely be tricky to pull off. But who knows, maybe this is where we'll finally get him back? Probably not, but I'd like it

I don't expect to see much if any combat in this arc, but weirdly, I'm perfectly okay with that. I'm really excited to see a more domestic look at this cast, and as we've established, Tozuka is just super funny, so this is probably going to be, at least for the next couple weeks, a fantastic slice-of-life manga. I know I said it about the Hong Kong arc too, but I think this is the most excited I've been about an Undead Unluck arc

It definitely says something about Tozuka's quality as an author that he's made me say that two arcs in a row

Poor relationship, yeah sure. Last we saw these two like zero lines ago they were snuggling in bed together. Come on Wei Wuxian get it together man.

"There was a highly respected and reputable elder named Lan Qiren in the Lan Clan of Gusu. ... Over the years, he had raised countless exceptional Lan disciples. Anyone educated under him for a couple of years, no matter how terrible they were going in, would appear decent coming out—or, at the very least, their poise and etiquette would see considerable improvement. Many parents wept streaming tears of excitement when they picked up their sons upon completion of their tenure."

Okay I did not remember Lan Qiren specifically being so sought after but like good for him? Maybe my feelings are colored from watching CQL but like Lan Qiren's classes in CQL at least... Kind of suck? But you know what, if the novel says he's the best damn teacher there is and everyone wants their kids in his class then like, sure. Send your kids to Lan camp.

What is with threatening to break legs? Is this a thing? I've gotta assume it's just a thing.

"Nie Huaisang continued, “And that Lan Zhan, he’s…sheesh. He’s the same age as us, but he’s not as lively as a boy should be. Stiff and strict. He’s the same as his shufu, or worse.” “Oh,” Wei Wuxian said. “Is he a pretty good-looking fellow?”

Presented without comment. I have no words. Okay okay, this is clearly Wei Wuxian's "hey this is the guy from last night" conversation but still "oh the hot guy?"

And Jiang Cheng's response like "Uh, they're Lans, they're ALL hot." Like thank you Jiang Cheng. What a great point.

Wei Wuxian: "no no but he wears all white and has a forehead ribbon and also a silver sword" Buddy in what way are you narrowing it down that's literally all Lans. All Lans wear white and have forehead ribbons and have silver swords, probably. Silver is the standard color for swords, I think?

Yeah, Original/Novel Wei Wuxian absolutely was a little shit here.

Nie Huaisang and co being fully engrossed in this story, but unwilling to do the troublemaking themselves I guess. Tiny Jiang Cheng's expression here though... He's so unimpressed. He's just like "*sigh* and then what happened? Did you make it worse? You made it worse didn't you? Why am I even asking that of course you made it worse."

"Wei Wuxian wasn’t scared in the least. He waved dismissively. “What’s there to be scared of? Didn’t they say Lan Zhan is a child prodigy? If he’s so precocious, then his shufu should’ve taught him everything by now, and he should be spending his days in secluded cultivation without any free time to keep eyes on me. I…”

"Jiang Cheng tapped Wei Wuxian’s shoulder and whispered, “His eyes are on you. Best of luck.”"

Now I know (or at least Wei Wuxian does) what you might still be asking about all this...

"Lan Qiren was tall and thin, his back as straight as a brush. Although he had a long black goatee, he was most definitely not old, and in line with the Lan Clan of Gusu’s tradition of birthing beautiful men every generation, he was most definitely not ugly."

Is Lan Qiren hot? Well sure, but Wei Wuxian isn't really into dilfs. If you're into dilfs though... Well, just be careful he's very strict!

He then reads them out all 3000 rules one by one as the kids sit there in silence, gets mad about the kids not already knowing the rules, singles out Wei Wuxian (not unearned he's been a little troublemaker) and then scolds him for getting the right answers because he shouldn't be proud anyone could get right answers (but when Lan Wangji gets an answer right that's a reason to look up to him ok buddy). Then Wei Wuxian, the known troublemaker, the guy who Lan Qiren is apparently targeting as a known troublemaker and trying to humble because he's an arrogant little shit or whatever, that guy, he says some edgy shit and Lan Qiren gets immediately outraged and kicks him out of class.

Lan Qiren... He isn't THAT great my dudes.

"“Wei-xiong! You’re amazing! He told you to get out and you actually left! Ha ha ha ha…” “He couldn’t wrap his head around what happened for the longest time after you left, his face was so sour!”"

Wei Wuxian is an arrogant little shit though. But like... Maybe Lan Qiren should ask... If he is the one... Who needed to be humbled... Hmm... What about that huh?

You know what? I'm gonna say it. Using your nephew like that in class, as an example to humble others... Hmm... Kinda shitty to Lan Wangji. That's literally an awful position to put him in oh my god. Obtaining spiritual qi requires cultivating and laboriously forming a golden core. Who knows how long that’ll take for someone like me? Any aptitude I have seems like it got chewed on by dogs in my mother’s womb. But resentful qi… That’s abundantly produced by all those nefarious creatures out there. If it could be put to use, how nice would that be?”"

Oh no an arc phrase that will reappear inverted ironically later on in the story oh nooooo what an emotional time to have emotions.

"The Righteousness Collection was the Lan family precepts. Their family precepts were so numerous that Lan Qiren had edited and assembled them into a thick collection, and the “Highest Justice” and “Standard Etiquette” chapters took up most of the work."

Stop! Stop! I already hate the Lan! I don't need any more incentive I am a Su She stan and you had me at 4000 rules. No one needs that many rules. You can cut those down. Some of those things probably just don't matter that much.

"Wei Wuxian spat out the sprig of grass in his mouth, dusted off his boots, and said, “Copy three times? I’ll ascend after the first time. I’m not a Lan, and I don’t plan on marrying into the Lans, so what do I need to copy their family precepts for? I refuse.”"

See it's funny because he does marry into the Lan and become a Lan. Bad Ending Should have realized it would be a Bad End after they killed JGY

"He was graceful and elegant, as if he himself were a tree of jade, mottled with the shadows of the leaves and the sun’s rays."

"Wei Wuxian, however, jumped down and went over to call after him, “Wangji-xiong!”"

"Wei Wuxian didn’t care. He chuckled aloud. “He can ignore me all he wants. It’s not like he’s even that pretty.” But then when he thought about it, yes, the boy was indeed that pretty. So he nonchalantly tossed that pouty feeling to the back of his mind."

Wei Wuxian falls first. He is smitten. Like, you're seeing this right?

"“Please, I beg you, Wei-xiong. This is my third year attending school at Gusu..."

Huh really wow Lan Qiren must be such a great teacher lmao. (Sorry, I'm bagging on poor Lan Qiren now, does he deserve it? Probably not, but like... Maybe a little bit yeah.)

"This Wei Ying really was as he had expected—the largest threat to humanity!"

He's an edgy 15 year old. You know there's people actually killing each other. Dude there's at least four types of evil things you taught in class as standard stuff everyone should know about.

Is it because of the crush on Lan Zhan? It's the crush on Lan Zhan isn't it?

"Wei Wuxian blurted praise in spite of himself, “Beautiful writing! Best of the best.”"

"Seeing that he’d finally been able to tease Lan Wangji into talking, he was secretly delighted, like he’d seen the bright moon at last after waiting for the clouds to part."

Then he tricks Wangji into reading porn and I've got nothing to say to that. I'm sure that's very funny if you are an edgy 15 year old and very not if you are Lan Wangji.

It's a very cute Lan Wangji though.

We'll uh... Well I'll try to power through the rest next time (there's no chance it doesn't just devolve into me fawning over little baby minshan forever and delaying the end of Chapter 4 even more. No chance. It's Minshan all the way down.)

Food for Thought: Zero and Her Sisters and a Girl's Development

Note: (Points to "Rose") This baby could take so much gender/sexuality-related trauma! Anyway, I thought I was going somewhere with this but some stuff didn't fit with my original idea. I still like it enough, so you can have this WIP. (Btw not consistent with the Rose/Zero novella)

A young girl who is undergoing puberty would be akin to Five. Likely due to the influence of adults around her, she becomes fixated on flaunting her sexuality as a way to make herself attractive to potential partners. She is very sexual and presents herself as physically mature (or whatever she thinks means "mature"). She pushes herself on a partner her age, but boys aren't really taught that they need to grow up this fast so her actions scare him. Through her observation of adults, she is taught that this way of acting is desirable, so the boy's response to her is simply him playing the love game. In the end, that doesn't work. She isn't the older woman the world is somehow pushing her to be, and this relationship is clearly not working.

Four represents the girl who wants to act like the new ideal girl for her age: the pure maiden. She has to cast aside the "impure" desires that she possesses so that she may show self-control and proper maturity. She even looks to an older guy as her ideal partner, a man who like her ought to show self-control. Their relationship fails because she cannot communicate her desires properly, because she is clearly just a young girl who has no idea what she is doing. She lashes out at the world for damning her whether she had her desires on the forefront or not.

So she becomes Three, the girl who just doesn't care anymore about the world. She likes what she likes and she'll roll with it. Her interests goes places, even towards the most disgusting, perversive, or deadly - if only to feel alive and have something exciting to amuse herself with. Her partner of preference is an actual old man, hairs greying and with assumed accumulated wisdom and knowledge over the years. He cares for her and keeps her company, but she eventually grows bored of him, because he runs out of novelties to share with her.

But one day, things miraculously change. The girl finds something to care about in the world: the lesser fortunate, and she becomes Two. Love blooms in her heart, and she offers what she can of herself to help out orphans and the like. She also finds a man who might as well be her Mr. Right. Her life feels perfect, almost too perfect... until it isn't. Mr. Right was Mr. Wrong, and when her belief in him shatters, she finally lets go of the idea that she needs a man.

Now she is One. Alone, she works to better the world in what way she can and be knowledgeable in its ways. Alone, she bears her burden and leads her life. People look up to her and there are times she yearns for a partner, but she doesn't risk having an intimate relationship again. However, the more she learns about the world, the more it becomes warped in her eyes. All she has is her own judgment, and her own judgment tells her to cast everything away.

Everything but herself.

With that, she becomes Zero, a woman who works only for herself, dictated by her own rules, dancing to her own rhythm. Nothing can chain her down now.

However, her pride is in vain. What chains her is her past and herself. Tired of her misfortunes, the cycle of reinventing herself to find a sliver of happiness, she seeks to to destroy every one of her selves, including the current one. Only then, she'd be free.

TENTATIVE ANALYSES: THE CASE STUDY OF VANITAS

CHAPTER 2: NOÉ IN THE CITY OF FLOWERS

NARRATIVE STRUCTURE

Once again, the chapter has a rather simple structure of Introduction - Rising Action - Climax.

1. Introduction: after waking up from flashbacky dreams, Noé finds himself in jail, along with Vanitas. A flashback shows us how they ended up that way: Vanitas kept pestering Noé about 'becoming his shield', to the vampire's persistent refusal. They get back to their airship to collect their belongings, and Noé, exausted for the fight and intensive magic usage, conveniently passes out, allowing Vanitas to frame him as his accomplice to get more time with him and try again to convince him. Their conversation shifts to the Book of Vanitas, and Vanitas, noticing Noé's interest, finds the leverage: if he has to 'judge the true character of the Book of Vanitas', why not stay close to its current owner? Answer: because Noé doesn't like him, as he tells to his face.

2. Rising Action: the two are released from jail and summoned to the office of Count Parks Orlok, the 'warden' of the vampires who live in the human world instead of their own dimension. He has our heroes' possession, including the Book of Vanitas, but he can't open it, and he's extremely skeptical about it being the real article. Despite his reservation on the person of Vanitas, Noé offers himself as a witness to the powers of the Book, especially because suddenly there are stakes: the life of Amelia Ruth. After all, if nothing can cure cursebearers, this means she's still one, and so she must be executed.

1. Vanitas offers to demonstrate the power of the Book by finding and healing the cursebearer responsible for the attacks, and Noé guarantees for him. Vanitas is all excited because the vampire has finally caved in, and gets yelled to his face that no, Noé isn't helping him, he is helping Noé save Amelia. He takes to this with good cheer, and the newly-formed duo goes off to investigate the case. Meanwhile, two mysterious figures make their debut: a young boy and his bodyguard, Jeanne, who despite his protests swears to kill anyone who will harm him ... even if it's the kin of the Blue Moon. On this cliffhanger, the chapter closes.

NARRATIVE TECHNIQUES

We get a flashback as epilogue at the start of the chapter: Noé, as a child, discussing the matter of the 'curse of Vanitas' with a friend who seems to feel very strongly about it, and asks our hero if he would still think that the Blue Moon is beautiful if he found himself in front of a cursebearer. So, we're left with some mystery about who this person is and the story he has with Noé.

We are then dropped in medias res with Noé and Vanitas detained in prison, so we can 'cool down' by the emotionally-charged ending of the first chapter while Vanitas recounts what happened after that.

This is connected to various other flashbacks in which the same kid is shown discussing a friend of theirs who became a cursebearer, grinning and taunting Noé about his unability to do anything about that; this is contrasted with our hero's current resolve. Keep in mind the negative way the insofar unnamed kid is presented (because I was the first to not remember it) because it will assume a completely different significance later on.

Before our heroes get at Count Orlok's place, Vanitas launches in an explaination of how vampires hide in human society - to a vampire. Which could be a bit of as-you-know, or maybe il Maestro di Noé non gli ha spiegato veramente un cazzo chalked up to Noé's sheltered upbringing.

Lastly, in this particular chapter Vanitas is foiled with pretty much everyone. Noé is shaken by the revelations about the Book of Vanitas and living half in the past for the second and third parts of the chapter, Orlok vehemently denies that anything can cure cursebearers, his assistants are loudly appalled at their guests' lack of manners - and Vanitas is calm, isn't troubled by the fact that his precious Book has been confiscated (he's the only one who can open it anyway), waltzes in Orlok's study and demands both his 'medical tool' and patient back, rebuffs with ease the vampire's yelling that she has to still be a cursebearer, and has an open, confident body language for the whole scene. There is exactly one panel in which he screams too, and it's in response to Orlok's assertion that a corrupted name can't ever be restored. Vanitas gives an interesting answer here: he doesn't protest the assertion per se, but rather the vampire's tendency to 'chain themselves to past convintions and stop thinking'. I think there will be more to say about this in later chapters.

CHARACTERS

This chapter introduces some new characters: Count Parks Orlok and his assistants, Nox and Manet. There's not much to say about them: the first appears as someone rooted in traditions, who would sentence someone to death without even investigating the matter properly; the latter are his servants, who treat him like some kind of god. For now, they're rather flat characters, whose main purpose is hand out conflict and a deadline for the heroes.

Speaking about the heroes: this chapter mantains what established in the first, while expanding slightly on them.

Vanitas is pretty much the same: he keeps on his cocky, cheery mask, with some undertones of niceness as when he offers to show Noé the way and sticking with him even as he keeps getting lost. There are only additions to his portrayal.

The first is a flavour of 'disrespect to authorities', as shown in his confrontation with Orlok: he confidently rebutts every argument the vampire tries to make against his ability to heal cursebearers, and the only time he loses his cool, is to outright yell insults at him.

The second are the first hints of his extreme reticence to talk about his past: see when Noé directly confronted him about it, he immediately cut him off and redirected the conversation to a 'safer' topic.

An interesting thing about him is his use of body language. He appears to be very in control of it, but at the same time, there are little things that escape him. See his way of sitting when in Orlok's office: he extends his arms on the couch, which represents a way of 'taking space' for oneself, an assertion of confidence, but at the same time he crosses his legs, which often indicated closure from others, a desire to keep them at a distance. And speaking of distance: Vanitas doesn't think twice to violate other people's personal space. Case in point, Noé: when he was distracting him from inquiring about his past and when he was reacting to his unexpected outburst about not helping Vanitas but viceversa, he gets extremely close to Noé, even physically touching him, to which the other reacts with confusion or annoyance. Which is likely exactly what Vanitas wanted.

Noé is more elaborated on thanks to the first hints to his backstory: a childhood friend that became a cursebearer, and another one who taunted him about his unability to do anything. His interest in the Book of Vanitas is born from the fact that the artifact can do something: he projects onto Amelia's situation, and saving her would be a way to prove his friend wrong - besides the pure selfless instinct, of course.

His lack of social graces stays as strong as ever, especially when Vanitas is concerned: he says to his face that he doesn't like him, without caring particularly for the other's reaction. And then there's what he does at Orlok's office: he mantains a polite, respectful tone for all the meeting, and at the end of that trashes the place to get everyone's attention on himself and make his proposal heard. This, along with the way he all but drags Vanitas with him in the final pages, declaring that no, he isn't Vanitas helper, Vanitas is his helper, hints that despite their different personalities, he can be just as willful and headstrong as his new 'partner'.

THEMES

This chapter expands more on a theme of the 'initial impressions', bringing it to a societal level to turn it into the concept of 'defying prejudices'. Orlok refuses to believe that Amelia can have been cured of her Malady, on the basis that such a thing has never happened before, despite the evidence in front of his eyes. So he was right about to condemn her to death as 'customary' for cursebearers, before Noé intervened. Vanitas flat-out criticizes him for being rooted to old traditions, and the thing is, Orlok isn't even the worst offender. He still concedes our heroes a chance to prove their claims and save Amelia; we'll see in future chapters that bigotry in the vampire society can get to much worse avenues.

SYMBOLISM

• The Moon: again, it returns in a very interesting panel, one in which a so-far-unnamed childhood friend of Noé asks him if he would still be so fashinated with the Blue Moon if he found himself face to face with a cursebearer. Despite the mocking tone, it's actually a valid question: it is one thing to look past a preconceived notion, but what if that notion turns out to actually have a legitimate basis, in that the thing it's tied to is genuinely harmful? Remember, human!Vanitas appearence has been so exceptional because before him, nobody knew a cure for cursebearers or even that such a thing was even possible. The blue moon was an actual reminder of a curse that destroyed lives, represented in this panel by the blood that seems to leak out of it. But Noé doesn't give an answer; the moon stays as an ambiguous element.

REFERENCES

• Count Orlok's name comes from the movie Nosferatu by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, the first to bring vampires on the big screen; he visually recalls him somehow, being bald and with pointy ears, but differs in other aspects (his large build and visible scar that don't belong to the movie character).

• Nox is Latin for 'night'. It might be a reference to the vampire's favorite time, or maybe a nod to the gothic band 'Nox Arcana', who made a concept album, Transylvania, based on the novel Dracula.

• Manet is a reference to the French pre-Impressionist painter active in 19th century. I can't find any link between him and vampires.

• Murr's name comes from ... yes, Noé's cat's name has a literary origin: The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr, a weird satirical novel published in 1819 bu E.T.A. Hoffman (same author as The Sandmann).

Wow I finally watched Ready or not and holy SHIT

I went into it already having a roundabout idea of what was going to happen - I also knew Grace survived due to a spoiler I'd seen but that was on me and I own that as this movie has been out for a few years now

But something I wanted to talk about, or more someone, was Daniel.

Fucking Daniel.

He was the hero in disguise the whole time.

As if trying to make up for the wrong he did all those years ago with the innocent groom.

He was trying to warn Grace without pointedly warning her before the wedding.

He gave Grace a ten second headstart when he Accidently stumbled across her.

Heck I feel like he would have left Grace go in the Forrest if his father wasn't right there.

And that's what made him smart.

He didn't compromise his own position in the family to help her, until the perfect moment arrived.

But the question is, did he always know he was going to do good? Did it change every minute?

We obviously see he is not the same as his family, as his own wife, through the whole movie. So it's safe to assume his different views of what is right and wrong and 'having a soul' is different from his family. Could this have been from the trauma of what happened to him as a child? Or has he always felt this way?

We see in the childhood flashback that the two brothers are obviously scared, as if they can get hurt themselves. The two boys in the present don't feel the same way, they're excited and hungry to be apart of the family festivities.

It's just interesting to think about what experiences or what core values they have grown with etc. - What are the reasons when growing up in a family like this?

Daniel waited for the perfect moment to strike, to save the innocent bride, but he didn't kill his family no - because at the end of the day they're still his family. Before that moment, Fuck yeah he was attractive. His little sarcastic remarks. The good little things he did like giving Grace a headstart. His beautiful hair and little undone tie. And of course his voice, because it's me.

All in all I was very happy I finally got to watch this movie after so long of anticipation. But I wish Daniel didn't have to die. I'm glad Grace survived because she deserved to, but Daniel didn't deserve to die.

Xuan isn't someone to be embarrassed about much. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and proudly expresses his feelings about others.

He tries okay he really tries to act all friendly like he usually does. But he can't! He feels like a lovesick highschool boy! 😫

He just gets so empty headed when he's with you, no thoughts. He just zones out and stared at you.. when you're around, he always has a semi present blush across his cheeks. So much so you thought he just had a natural blush to em. But nope!

I hc his back is very sensible, like Yunnie's. I can't tell if his bodysuit has an open back like Yun's but since his jacket has four arm holes i assume he can have four arms and if he had a closed back they wouldn't be able to burst out properly?
