Elevate Your Content with AI-Assisted Creation
As a marketer, I’ve seen firsthand how AI-assisted content creation is revolutionizing the way we approach content strategies. With the help of AI tools, we can now generate high-quality content at scale, freeing up time to focus on other aspects of our marketing efforts. The statistics are compelling: 51% of marketers are already using AI for content creation, and 80% plan to increase their use…

After 146 days, the Writer's Strike has ended with a resounding success. Throughout constant attempts by the studios to threaten, gaslight, and otherwise divide the WGA, union members stood strong and kept fast in their demands. The result is a historic win guaranteeing not only pay increases and residual guarantees, but some of the first serious restrictions on the use of AI in a major industry.
This win is going to have a ripple effect not only throughout Hollywood but in all industries threatened by AI and wage reduction. Studio executives tried to insist that job replacement through AI is inevitable and wage increases for staff members is not financially viable. By refusing to give in for almost five long months, the writer's showed all of the US and frankly the world that that isn't true.
Organizing works. Unions work. Collective bargaining how we bring about a better future for ourselves and the next generation, and the WGA proved that today. Congratulations, Writer's Guild of America. #WGAstrong!!!

EMERGENCY AUTHOR UPDATE
I feel like this needs to be warned about. Everything on Ao3 that isn't set to private, HAS been data scraped and fed to 3 data sites that provide data for AI training, including writing and artwork.
Yes, this includes my entire Ennead series and everything else I've ever written and posted. As well as anything you all have written but not made private.
Ao3's legal team is fighting it and one site has made the data unavailable, but the other two aren't based in the USA so the fight is harder.
This is frustrating and upsetting news, especially for those of us who now need to pick between our Guest readers who have supported us for a long time and protecting the hard work that we've put our hearts and souls into and I just ask that we support each other and our choices during this time.
The link here has more details but from now on, until I can be sure there's a way to protect my work, which I've spent decades writing and planning, my stories will be posted for members of the site only.

the shittiest human art will always be leagues better than the best ai "art". a child's finger paintings and macaroni crafts will always be better than a computer's subpar attempt at recreating the starry night. your stick figures and smiley faces will always surpass an algorithm's bastardized boticelli painting. the most mediocre hallmark movie will always be better than whatever bullshit sora churns out. the most cringeworthy "i'm 14 and this is deep" notes app poetry will always be better than whatever chatgpt can come up with. always

"Being an AI writer is fucking sad"
You know who I really feel sorry for? People who use AI to write their books.
Writing isn’t just about throwing words on a page, it’s about the struggle, the craft, the late nights staring at a blinking cursor, the thrill of finding the perfect sentence, the frustration of edits that feel endless but make the story stronger. It’s about putting a piece of yourself into something real. AI can’t do that. AI doesn’t have passion, it doesn’t have a voice, it doesn’t pour its heart into a story and hope someone out there understands. And even if you only use a part of it to write your story, just a few words, just a few ideas, just a few small things, it destroys everything that made writing what it was, because the most important thing is the humanity.
If you’re letting a machine do the work for you, you’re not an author, you’re just a bystander. And honestly? That’s kind of sad.

Do you use AI to help with your writing?
Ah, the AI question — let’s talk about it šŸ‘€
Yes, I use AI regularly and for a lot of things! For example, certain tools help me keep track of fandom lore, character notes, and timelines — basically a searchable database so I don’t get lost in my own worldbuilding.
I also use AI-generated art and playlists to build moodboards before I write — it helps me feel the tone and atmosphere of a story before I dive in.
When it comes to research, ChatGPT has genuinely saved me hours. A few years ago, I’d have dozens of tabs open — cross-referencing medical symptoms or fighter jet engine parts (just to describe one bolt, mind you). Now, I can ask once and get a concise, reliable overview. It helps me keep the realism without sinking time into a Wikipedia black hole.
As for the writing itself — every plot, line of dialogue, emotional beat is mine. I usually write in my native language and translate, though I’m doing more and more in English from the start. Before posting, I sometimes run drafts through AI to check for missed typos, polish phrasing, or catch awkward bits — like a built-in editor.
To me, that’s what healthy AI use looks like: the creative vision stays 100% mine, and the tools just make the process smoother. It’s still me, telling the story.

If you are going to post a comment calling a author out for using AI
PLEASE make sure the author actually is. I got a very crual comment saying my 'dear reader' fanfic is all AI generated. The comment is included below so you all can see the kind of language that was used. I do NOT and never will post AI fanfiction. I get nothing out of my writing other than the joy of sharing and the community I create. It was a gutting comment, my heart is in my stomach. It made me actually consider not posting anymore, because what's the point if my readers don't trust me. I WILL be continuing to post, but come on guys. all AI has to do with my writing is spell check with Grammarly, which I have been using for years. I can't belive people think this about my work. I know it's melodramatic but I am gutted.
The comment:
"How could you even think this is acceptable? Do you not have any respect for the people who actually put effort into writing? Using an AI to create this mess just shows that you can’t be bothered to use your OWN creativity. 68% of this is AI-generated, according to my detector, and it shows. The characters are NOT who they are supposed to be, the emotions feel fake, and the writing is so mechanical it hurts to read. You didn’t even TRY to make this good, did you? This is a slap in the face to anyone who spends HOURS working on their writing. Why even bother posting something that’s mostly AI junk?"
EDIT: I am aware that this was a bot comment and contacted the real user of that username, they left a comment clearing it up. I am going to keep my post up just so that people can see the effect this has on writers and the community. Thank you everyone for your kind words and your information it means a lot <3

Confessions of a Fanfic Writer: How and why I use AIĀ
So more and more, I’m seeing posts about AI and the place it has in writing. While some posts express justified concerns, the general discourse seems to be degenerating into ā€œdon’t use AIā€ and ā€œif you use AI you’re a horrible personā€, which suppresses conversation and doesn’t really explore the nuances of how AI can be used as a tool for writers.
I’m a fanfic writer who uses AI to help me write, especially when I’m in the throes of exhaustion or depression. I don’t always use it, and when I do, I’m aware it can become a crutch. But mostly it’s transformed my writing life, because it means I can write nearly every day now, instead of waiting for those rare moments each month when the sun comes up and I’m in a good place mentally and I’m able to write.Ā
So I thought I’d get specific and share some ways I use it. A couple of practical points first -Ā
AI is a broad term, and so when I talk about AI with regard to writing, I’m referring to a subcategory of AI called LLMs - large language models like chatGPT.
I don’t allow chatGPT to train on my fics. (There’s an option to not let it train its models on any data inputted).Ā
Ways I use AI to help me writeĀ
One - to help me articulate my ideas
You know when you’re so tired and unable to express yourself properly, and you end up spewing a word cloud and gesturing inarticulately in the vague hope that the other person will understand what you’re trying to say?Ā
So with chatGPT I type that wordcloud in along with my half-baked ideas and unfinished sentences, and then it will make sense of what I’m trying to say and reflect back to me fully-formed ideas, giving me different suggestions for what I might mean. It’s the ā€œmake it exist first, you can make it good laterā€ adage - chatGPT helps me to make my ideas exist first.Ā
Two -Ā Ā for constructive criticismĀ
I might feel like a scene is sagging or that something’s not working but I’m unable to put my finger on it. So I’ll ask - ā€œwhat’s not working?ā€ and I’ve found it to be remarkably perceptive and accurate in identifying what and why something feels off - maybe it’s the beats and pacing, list-like repetition or lack of a character’s internal reaction.
(Could I just ask a beta-reader to do this? I could, but honestly - I’m an introvert and British. It’s just too awkward for me).
Three - as a sounding boardĀ
If I’m stuck on a scene, it offers a fresh perspective by helping me figure out the motivations of the characters or identifying the emotional counterpoint of the scene and suggesting ways to build on it.
I sometimes ask it to rewrite the scene from the perspective of a different character, or to write the scene from a sensory point of view, just to help me experience it through fresh eyes. Other writers use it to make RPGs of their fics, for similar reasons. There’s also an audio option where it narrates what you’ve written -Ā Ā the voice isn’t great but just hearing the words spoken aloud allows me to listen and visualise it and gives me a fresh perspective.Ā
Four - as a research toolĀ
I like doing research and making my fics as accurate as possible, but sometimes there’s no information available for my scenarios, e.g a character bleeding out in zero-G. So I type in the scenario into ChatGPT and receive information specific to my scene - for example, if my character is bleeding out in zero-G, is that even possible? How would it appear to an onlooker? Would the bleeding happen quicker or slower than in normal gravity? Would it still feel the same?Ā (There’s always potential for the LLM to hallucinate though, so I wouldn’t trust it as the sole authority).
Five - for proof-reading and html codeĀ
I can spend hours checking for typos, grammar and formatting errors, and it’s a lot quicker to ask chatGPT to clean it up for me initially and then to check it myself afterwards (or the other way round). It also speeds things up with writing html code for specific formatting.Ā
Six - as a writing therapistĀ
I have pretty low self-esteem and imposter syndrome etc. In the past I would either stop writing for a while - or worse, just delete my stories.Ā
Now when I feel like that, I tell ChatGPT andĀ Ā then it responds by having a conversation based on therapeutic techniques such as externalisation (separating harmful thoughts from your identity), reframing techniques based on CBT etc. to explore with me what I’m feeling and to help me think differently about it.Ā
(Could I not just turn to actual humans for this? Yes, and occasionally I do. But I don’t want to pester my online fanfic friends with my writerly angst multiple times a day. It’s not fair on them, and they’re not counsellors. But with chatGPT I can be as honest and neurotic as I like).Ā
Conclusion
I guess I wanted to write this little essay because:Ā
it felt disingenuous not to speak up about my own use of AI when people were posting about it on Tumblr and elsewhere.
to maybe challenge the assumption that the use of AI in writing is automatically deviant, shameful or wrong.Ā
to hopefully be an approachableĀ Ā person to chat to about the use of AI in fanfic. I’d love to find a friendly space in which to talk about how to use AI well in creating fanworks, and to discuss the angst, pitfalls and ethics that come with it. (Edit: I made a Tumblr community called Writing-with-AI, let me know if you’d like the link).
Anyway, if you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and for keeping an open mind. I’m always happy to chat more - feel free to DM or leave me an ask.
Finally, you might be wondering whether I used AI to write this. What do you think?

(I want to make it clear that, while this story was mostly created with AI, it still has meaningful parts that come from me and made it personal)
I found this while scrolling through the Sirius Black/Remus Lupin tag. The amount of DISAPPOINTMENT I felt. And this isn't the first time I've seen it.
Using AI at all does not make it PERSONAL. Fanfiction is made by fans not AI. Recently, ao3 was scraped or whatever it's called that stole thousands and thousands of works that have been written by humans to train AI to copy works to better make fics like these. My own works that I put so much effort into, that I am proud of will be used to train and model AI to make it better at creating stories like these.
AI has no place in this fandom. It has no place in ANY fandom. MAKE YOUR OWN WORKS, no matter how crappy it is, or how bad you think it is. It's yours, it's human it's BETTER THAN ANYTHIING THOSE FUCKING ALGORITHMS COULD EVER WRITE.
Delete that chatgpt tab. Stop using AI to steal from actual writers. Writing your own fics is the only way you're going to get better. Using AI is not how to improve. It's how to make it selfless and inhuman. No matter how you tell the algorithm to make your own experiences into the story, it will never be personal.
There is no creativity in AI. Everything word it uses to answer your prompt has come from somewhere. It destroys fandom spaces by removing the authenticity and creativity of works.
Plus, each AI prompt uses around about 500mL of water to stop the systems from overheating while generating your prompts. This water is sourced from natural lakes/underground stores which are needed to sustain many ecostystems.
Don't trust me? Look up the dangers of using AI. Even if you're just generating a story, it will encourage more and more people to normalise using AI. When this happens, we're fucked.
I don't care if you're going to fucking fight me on this one. Have at it. I will stand by it that AI should never be used in a fandom space. No exceptions. Learn to write yourself, or ask another writer to write it for you. Use the prompt you would have given to AI to another human so they can turn it into something good.

šŸ‘DošŸ‘NotšŸ‘UsešŸ‘AIšŸ‘TošŸ‘WritešŸ‘FanfictionšŸ‘
You deserve to write. You deserve to grow as a writer. Your story deserves to be told BY YOU! If you truly think AI can do a better job than you, then the story you are telling doesn't need to be told. If you think AI is the only way you can convey the art you hold in your heart, you don't actually have art to share.
But if you care. If you have a story to tell. You should want to tell it. You should want to learn. You should want to create.
If you're worried about it being bad, good - that means you care. That means you'll learn. If you think the only way you'll be any good at art is by prompting a machine to do it for you, you've already failed. You've already given up.
You are not good because you didn't even try.

While the threat of AI is a very real thing, we must remember that all it will ever be able to do is make something exist. It cannot make it real. It cannot make it believable. You can tell a bot to make a story about a dog finding their way back home, but it will never generate a prompt that can touch thousands because it's never lived. It doesn't know how it feels to lose a dog. It doesn't know how it feels to be lost. A carbon copy, cookie cutter, formulaic story will be made. But it will not change a viewer's life, because it knows nothing about life itself.
If we allow a computer's logical approximation of life to overcome the real heart of it all, it's no one's fault but our own. Keep making art. Everyone can, because art is human. Not robotic.
