Just finished UTRH (the comic) for the first time... Might gonna pretend it isn’t canon.

I feel like ppl focus on Bruce training the robins to kick ass from a young age when that’s definitely not all that was. He had to teach them field medicine and how to pick locks and sneak around silently and how to notice things, sure he taught them how to hit things with sticks of multiple sizes, but he also taught them how to grapple around and land from a fall.

They probably had intimidation lessons and interrogation lessons and sessions where they just meditated for hours straight. They’re taught how to calm down civilians and to train their voices to sound different in costume and so many things that would make them the most terrifying children to live with.

Bruce is actively training them to be good at bothering him because they like trying out their new espionage skills at Galas and trying to sneak around him while he’s asleep to prank him.

When we think of training to be Robin it’s easy to think of sparring and gymnastics equipment when it’s fun to remember the other parts of it. Some days Bruce would probably just give the kids a Hunt a Killer box and a time limit.

I think the main reason I dislike the modern incarnation of jason todd is because I believe he works best with how he's characterized in the panels above. when bruce hurts him, or jason has a difference of opinion, or they fight, modern jason is not allowed to win. no matter how much he follows bruce’s rules or goes against his own morality (which should be allowed to be weird or atypical or fucked up btw!!) he’s not good enough. he can’t really be angry or violent, and certainly is not allowed to kill, or he’s out of control and being ‘the bad one’. he's sad, he can be sorrowful, but he's kind of neutered character-wise. and to me it leads batman to seeming all the more cruel and out of control. I like the sweet family dynamics well enough, and I wholeheartedly believe bruce does love jason and vice versa, but their relationship shouldn't be simple and soft. jason should be the bleeding wound that never heals. he should be the constant, stabbing reminder of how bad things can get for batman. he should be trying to tear bruce's throat out with his teeth and bruce can beat him up but he can't stop him because that's his son. that's what I want

Everyone always talks about Bruce's short time in med school, but nobody ever talks about when he went to law school, aka when he tortured all of Gotham U with Brucie Wayne.

Bruce needed to study law, criminology, forensics, psychology, sociology, penology, to improve Gotham, so he enrolled in Gotham U again. However, he was going to play the role of the annoying rich brat, aka introducing Brucie Wayne to the world. HE PAID PEOPLE TO BE HIS FRIENDS. They tried to expel him, he just paid the administration to keep him. But also, he would disguise himself to ask questions to the teachers. And illegally enter the building to go through his professors' belongings to learn more advanced stuffs... You know he showed up "drunk" or "hangover" to class and was loud af about it.

100% Bruce has a degree in law because of his time there, but he bought it (and everyone know he bought it) instead of actually earning it, which he was 100% capable of. (Gotham is corrupted af, he can easily do that)

Yeah, he is the worst thing that ever happened to Gotham U and everyone hates him there. (Yes, worse than criminals. Every college has a couple of graduates that commit crimes later on. How many of them have a rich brat bringing a LAND PHONE, because Bruce was in college before mobile phones existed, so he can loudly gossip on the phone during class, and cannot be expelled because he is the one founding the new library???)

Also, funny to imagine this is when he met Harvey and, for some reason, he was his only real friend. (Maybe they had to work together on a project, and Bruce felt too bad about ruining someone else grade by being a dick, so he did show up to work with Harvey. And even tho he did his best to keep the mask on while not ruining Harvey's grade, he let out how much he actually cares about Gotham and wants to improve it. They bonded over that and now, Harvey is the only one to know that Bruce Wayne isn't a rich brat, but someone who cares about others.)

Btw, him saying that "It wouldn't have done for playboy Bruce Wayne to criticize the entire penology system" means that Bruce disagrees with the penology system in the USA, which is a punitive system, and also the death penalty, as penology modern studies are against it for being immoral and unethical. His education in the subject means that Bruce could actually use researches and works to explain why he is against killing, and I think it would be so funny to have him quoting Rousseau, Voltaire and Montesquieu to Jason.

and when people are arguing against batjokes like "don't you remember jason todd?" yes. oh god yes i remember jason todd. you mean the child who was caught in the crossfire of batman and joker's deadly relationship? the relationship batman refuses to give up even when faced with his child, who is so hurt and only wants one thing. yes, i remember how bruce looked at his son, saw his pain, and chose the joker.

The man has enough money to rebuild cities periodically. Do you think he'd really bother getting his batarangs back? He will obviously have his children do it for him as a form of punishment.

He can pay for new ones, but he can't let some random civilian or thug find and use them.

Do you think after a battle when Bruce has to collect all the Batarangs he threw he feels embarrassed like how you feel chasing after a ping pong ball?

No but I'm still baffled how many times I found out that some Tim angst I saw in fics is something that actually happened to Jason instead. Like this is more than a two penny occurrence and I'm baffled everytime.

About Justice League Dark (2017), I can't believe they start the movie with Batman saving a baby only for the mother to kill herself in the meantime. I cannot believe it because he doesn't bring the baby home and immediately adopts her. He's holding an orphan and he doesn't make her his kid? Out of character.

Okay, seriously, I love it because he is shown to be the most compassionate out of the Trinity. The woman and man Diana and Clark have arrested show erratic behavior, speaking nonsense and begging the heroes to save them, which could all be signs of psychosis, hallucinations, mental health issues. But the heroes demonize them, literally for Diana. Bruce, however, he tries to calm the mother, "You do not want to hurt her", "You're tired", as she threatens to kill her baby and says it is the devil. It could be post-partum psychosis, it sadly happens a lot that religious women who suffer from mental illness (and often their religious family or the church is against helping them) kill their children because "they are demons/God told me too". They aren't bad people, they are sick and need help.

It makes sense for Bruce, who has studied psychology and deals with mental ill people turning rogues, to be kind to her. Contrary to his friends, he has knowledge on the matter.

Batman: It's not magic, it's the result of mental health not being taken seriously. (It was, in fact, magic)

I think it's interesting to see which events people see as in character and thus, making other events seem out of character.

This is a fair take, yeah, it's weird to think there's genuine love there if you take the throat slitting thing into account. However, on the other hand, maybe THAT was a weird, out of character writing choice that didn't make a whole lot of sense. It's all in how you interpret the characters and, in classic comic fan form, which writing choices you choose to ignore

When I see Jason and Bruce acting like the stereotypical "prodigal son and gruff but loving father" (in canon!) my blood boils.

Jason died. Bruce did not avenge him, not even "playing by the rules", so not even by arresting the Joker. He didn't do JACK SHIT after his boy was murdered. And once Jason came back, Bruce slit his throat in order to save the life of the man who murdered him, and then left him to die in a burning building.

They should be unable to coexist in the same room let alone speak let alone have a "difficult but ultimately loving relationship". I hate you DC I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE

Batman AU where the batfam is an extension of Gotham’s will so they can’t leave the city without taking a piece of it with them

Bruce, ever practical, has a batarang made from a steel piece off the bat signal (not that he’d be able to throw it but it’s a backup nonetheless)

Dick, Jay, and Tim have made it Robin tradition to carry pebbles in their pockets (the justice league has come to associate the soft jingling of rocks with the arrival of the Dark Knight)

Steph finds pretty rocks and quartz to crack open and share with Cassandra- and they cycle through their newest finds (cass does keep a shiny piece of obsidian in her utility belt, it was the first one Steph gave her)

Duke keeps a corner from a road sign in his pouch, the reflective yellow paint matches his theme- (what better representation of the city than perpetual construction)

Damian reverently carries a piece of deep green sea glass from the harbor. The color reminds him of his mother, and he finds the beauty fitting. (The irony that the only way for him to leave his new home is an echo of the reason he’s there in the first place is not lost on him.)
