Okay, hear me out. This is what I wanna see now.

Tim becomes a mafia boss under the table.

A small organization falls into his lap and he starts running it in secret, it starts growing really fast though bc let's be real, tim is running it, so he has to work harder to keep it a secret from the bats

He runs it in his civies so there is no chance of running red robin's image, but he tells all his guys that he has a bat on his payroll, he never specifies which tho so they can't try to rat on him and they'll be more wary with every bat. (He also eventually tells them that he has a super and a speedster on his "payroll" too, still not specifying which)

He ends up becoming bigger than red hood ever was without any one even knowing it's him

It's also an oddly "good" mafia, because they tend to refrain from killing, it's the best case scenario for crime in Gotham but still... who could be running it? And when will things get worse?

Also, it took down other crime people and families but not red hood's gang, it completely avoided them? Why? Every one is completely confused as to why that is the only gang the group allows.

And no one will ever find out it was all Tim unless he wants them to.

He's still better than Luthor, tho.

Okay so I have ✨thoughts✨ about the people of Gotham. If you live with that much crime all over your city, surely you get desensitized to it right? Like someone will get shot and they’ll be like “man I liked that guy. Shame he pissed off the Joker” or whatever. All of Gotham would be unhinged as fuck and you cannot convince me otherwise.

like imagine some of them going on a vacation and something happens, like a robbery, and everyone is crying and all the Gothamites are like “Pshh. Cowards”

The Wayne’s are especially guilty of this fact. Like they’ll be visiting Metropolis or something and everyone screaming and they are just calmly walking away from the situation (only cuz there’s cameras and they can’t change and go help bc that would so sooo obvious). TLDR: Gothamites are the DC Florida Man and I Will Not be convinced otherwise

I'm entirely failing College and yes I should be focusing on that BUT!! I have another fic idea. One based off of my maladaptive daydreams, specifically. Mafia boss/club owner/crime lord & street kid Bruce Wayne AU. Based mainly around the The Batman 2022 and Gotham (series) timelines, along with Telltale Batman, with my own elements mixed in of course.

Selina gave him the Bat nickname, to conceal his real identity as a street kid. How did he become a street kid? Wayne Enterprises execs stealing all of his money and his house. Alfred tried to help, but he couldn't do anything about it and Bruce ended up on the streets.

It's sort of if Bruce was Jason, I guess. He adapted to the streets quickly, and at age 22 he started to take revenge on people. Before that, he had actually been actively asked by The League of Assassins to train with them. They wanted someone as vengeful and willing to do anything to survive as him on their side. Unfortunately.. he didn't really like how strict they were. He killed Ra's and allowed Talia to become the leader, returning to Gotham after.

He still adopts most of his kids! Not officially, but he uses his club to help people out. Shelter people that need it, feed people that need food, etc.

So!! Hopefully I actually finish the fic considering.. College. But hopefully my bad luck as of late means I actually do it.. the ao3 author life has found me lmao.. And yes I did write all of this in a class.

I remember way back around October, I was in irl Mrs. Barah's English class, opening up the word document which held a rant I had typed the night before. This was the rant:

Jason blinked. “Who’s Tim Drake?” Jackie shook her head, eyes wide. “He’s only the legend and leader of the school. You know, a lot of people compare him to the likes of a mafia boss?” “Like, here’s a freshman who is an actual 12-year-old. Easy bait, right?” a student piped up. “Wrong. The so-called “12-year-old” is not only academically smart, but also politically smart.” Another student nodded, saying, “It had been barely three months and he already had blackmail on half the bullies in the school. He made deals and truces with the other half of the bullies. The minor ones cower before him, because in a span of three months, he’s managed to become all chummy-chummy with the big guys, when they’ve been trying for three years.” “No one has met a single person in the history of the school who is friends with the bullies, the students, and the teachers,” Jackie added. “Plus, he’s offering homework help and occasionally accepting candy as payment? Well, sign me up. Actually, I did sign up. I’m almost getting all grades above B on my final report card.” Alexander added ominously, “Majority of the girls think he’s adorable. The majority of the boys think he’s cool. The mean girls bend to his every will. The jocks give him hi-fives and fist bumps in the corridors and stick up for him in P.E. Not that he needs much, he’s so smart that he used freaking science to defeat everyone in dodgeball. Something about velocity reducing when standing at the very back? I don’t know, man.” One of the other students said, “The nerds ask him for tips on how to play chess and dungeons and dragons. The older theater kids ask him out for group milkshake parties. The prom queen and king asked him to be a chaperone on their first date. The teachers think he's a charm.“ “And all the janitors keep him up to date on new facilities and latest gossip,” a janitor walking by said. “We even made a copy of every key at the school for him, don’t tell the staff though.” Jackie turned back to Jason, “The kid is a legend. A real legend known under the name of Timothy Jackson Drake."

Obviously it's edited to be more comprehensible and integrated in the fic, but that was the gist of it. And from that rant, I wrote two series (and some fics in the Mafia Files and Packages that other cool writers co-wrote).

Two series that has been going on for a full year now.

But today, they both end. The whole AU ends. And it does so, with this fic:

Question for my Batman fandom tumbleboos: Can the Bat family be described as a mafia family?

Cause think about it. They a family of vigilantes who stick their nose into police business. Which is, in theory, illegal. Yeah, some of the police support them, but some police in real life and fiction take bribes, come from mob families so they look away, and in other ways allow the mob to carry on.

Anyone wanna argue this?

Batfam Mafia AU

Not that the fam themselves (most of them) are in the Mafia tho, I just don't have a better name.

@hallowsden helped me with this a while ago but this is the expanded version.

Essentially, you've got bronze age Joker as a Mafia boss who has a penchant for cruel jokes and unusual punishment but he's a lot more moral in this than he has been in the past, partially that he doesn't target children anymore.

Harley used to work at the local prison, essentially her job was figuring out if the inmates got worse while there or were sent there wrongly. People didn't like how good she was doing with her job (plus that's where she met Joker, tho she was hiding there relationship) so she got sent to work at Arkham in hopes it would break her or something (it slightly did but she's not as unhinged as a Jokered Harley)

Joker is like a step-dad to the batkids and Pam is like a step-mom in the same dad way, but the kids more or less fight over who the best mom-mom is.

Jason still died because a rival of Joker's found out he was working with the vigilantes and took it into their own hands to remedy that and tried to pin it on Joker, not realizing he was technically family with them.

Anyway, Talia gets back from a trip, finds out, and takes Jason's corpse to LoA. Jason ends up considering her 'best mom'. Then Harley becomes 'Second Mom' because he decides to take Joker's old name and try and weasel his way to working under his step-dad (Joker finds out almost immediately)

Anyway, besides Jason, here's what Mom(s) I think the kids would gravitate towards the most (I consider Ivy a mom-adjacent dad/wine aunt combo because of her vibes)

Dick is the kid who thinks Selina is Best Mom. He'll sometimes join her heists when he wants to destress, especially since most of her heists are only harming the rich idiots and museums, the latter of which gets sent to their home countries. He spends all much time with her a lot of people think she's his actual mom (not that Egyptian and Romani are the same but most people can't really tell the difference plus Bruce is pale as fuck)

Cass has too many bad memories and trauma from assassin days to really see Talia as a mom figure but she does call her aunt from time to time (unless Talia spent time overtaking some of Cass' training and used that time to make things better where she could).

Tim blew up the LoA, I'm not sure how fond he'd be of Talia unless she helped him do so but still. Plus, imagine if he just went 'Sike I'm going with Joker and Harley' either when Bruce tried to adopt him, or maybe willingly becoming Joker Jr. when Damien took over as Robin (Damien was still raised in the LoA but Talia did better this time with him). I feel like he'd still have somewhat of a Hero getup tho for outside of Gotham since Joker is considered a villain, so he takes on 'Red' after his step-dad and his big brother, and 'Robin' from his old role.

Steph I'm not sure but I feel like she'd get along with Harley. Be funny if she and Tim would be all 'Jokerina and Junior' creepy twin shenanigans, but she'd still be Spoiler as well, kinda depends on how much she wants to annoy Bruce at the time. Or maybe she goes for a Harley-look-alike - 'Quinnie and Junior'?

Duke is a kitty kat kid most of the time. He's a street fighter, as much or more than Jason, but while Jason later got trained by Bruce then Talia, Duke got his training from Bruce and Selina.

Damien, as mentioned before, was raised by Talia, but he also grew up with Jason for a bit, and maybe Tim babysat him as well from time to time when he was at the LoA (they have a better relationship than Canon). Not much changes but he isn't at murder happy.

In terms of non-platonic relationships, you have...

Brutalina, BatJokes, Jarley, and Harlivy

Also, depending on how you want to drag things, Ras is either redeemable or he's that grandpa you're not a fan of who keeps inserting himself into family functions and it's not like you can kill him right? Or both, both is good. 😂

How Police Approach Them

More than once the GCPD (and sometimes even other police departments too) have sent in officers to talk to Don Wayne’s children. They always seem to think that they can be turned, that their adoptive father is abusing them, that children will be the easiest to make see the error of Wayne’s ways, or something else in that line of thought.

It never works out very well.

Dick Grayson

When he’s still a child Gordon tries, oh Gordon tries, endlessly to get him away from Wayne. Every part of the fostering process he’s trying to sabotage it, bringing out every single bit of dirt he can on the man.

It’s enough to get him properly on Don Wayne’s radar for the first time. It isn’t enough to stop him.

There isn’t a judge in the city Bruce isn’t willing to bribe or… convince to his side and there’s not anything concrete enough for Gordon to pull out as evidence. So, little Richard “Dick” Grayson becomes Wayne’s ward, and Gordon spends every day of his life regretting it.

(They try to approach him when he’s a kid. He seems confused, unsure, but he remembers the nice man with the mustache who helped him, and he tells him happily, smiling about how “Bruce” is teaching him all kinds of fun games and shows him the little knife he carries in his pocket now that “B” is teaching him how to use.

Gordon tries, he really tries, but-

But.

Don Wayne is that boy’s savior, and loyalty conditioning like that, isn’t something he can fix in a few minutes of talking and-

Well.

After his third conversation with little Dick, where the boy finally seemed to understand what he was saying, how serious this was, seemed almost, finally scared, he wakes up to a lock of hair on his bedside table.

His daughter - his daughter, his daughter, his daughter - comes to breakfast confused with a chunk at the front of her hair missing.

He doesn’t try again.)

Different officers get sent to talk to him over the years, and over pin cameras and taped on wires, Gordon sees little Dickie (he’s as old as Barbara, he’s as old as Barbara) grow taller and settle into that smooth, predatory walk that Wayne seems to have down to a T. He sends every officer away with info that sends them on goose chases and weaves a wildly different story and persona for each one of them, and when the boy is 17, Gordon watches him seduce a man and lead him like a blinded fool to where Wayne sits with a gun pointed at him.

One more officer follow him and two more are pulled into defecting before Gordon stops making the same mistake. Dick Grayson is Wayne’s now.

(But Gordon never forgets the boy who smiled on a trapeze and hugged him like he was falling apart. He can never quite convince himself to think the boy he knew was dead.)

(He never quite forgets the first boy he failed.)

Jason Todd-Wayne

The second time it’s different.

Jason Todd is a street rat that Don Wayne pulled off the streets. Wayne saved him, but he isn’t his savior. Todd-

(This is another mistake Gordon doesn’t repeat. He’s Todd, not Jason, not just a kid, not little Dick-)

- looks at everything with suspicion and walks like he’s just waiting to get tossed back to the streets. He doesn’t look at Don Wayne with any of the starry eyed devotion that Dick Grayson, Grayson, Grayson, always had, just a healthy mix of fear and suspicion that Wayne pretends not the see.

(Gordon doesn’t let himself hope but- but-)

He sends a plainclothes officer to talk to him, a wire, a camera, and a comm painstakingly affixed with strict instructions to do whatever Gordon and command tell him immediately.

He sits down across from Todd at a library table while his adopted “father” speaks on his phone outside and the boy sneers before his man even speaks.

(Gordon’s heart sinks. That was his first mistake: thinking there was every any hope for one of Don Wayne’s boys.)

He still tries, sends a few more officers to try and impress the situation on the boy, offers money,, plea deals, witsec, and every other thing in the book and outside of it. Todd sneers at half his officers and sits tight lipped with the rest, fingers twitching towards the sleeve Dick had shown him his knife from all those years ago.

And then Jason Todd-Wayne is dead, half the city’s underground goes to ground or floats up the river in the morning. Gordon didn’t let himself hope. He holds his daughter tight that night and doesn’t send her to school for a week.

He wouldn’t make the same mistakes again.

Things about Kyle I know the fandom would go insane over and make a dozen AU's and extrapolate complete nonsense with no basis in canon (complimentary) over if the lantern fandom was as big as batfam:

- his gang leader uncledad

- his secret agent real dad

- his hinted at secret agent mom?

- that time he completely gave up on earth and just went to live in space all by himself because he was convinced he was poisonous to everyone around him and everyone around him dies and he has to remove himself in order to save them

- the Everything about him and Wally

- guykyle would be the big jaggernaut ship and kylewally would be the second big ship. Either that or connorkyle. Probably kylewally though because connor would be surrounded by a halo of ace discourse. He already is surrounded by bad ace discourse but imagine if the fandom was bigger, it would be awful

- seriously people would get sooooooo weird (pos) over Kyle's gang leader uncledad. People would ship him with his uncledad. There would be thousands of fanfics about Kyle being abused by his uncledad and his saviour of choice coming to rescue him

- everything about ion? Kyle becoming god??? Sooooo many aus about him staying as a white lantern

- I bet Kyle would go through the lantern gauntlet wheel because he's been every single shade of lantern in canon. It's a plot point that he can use every emotional spectrum so people are going to run with that

- Kyle/sinestro bad touch

- Kyle getting trained by batman. You know all those fics about Hal getting to know the batkids in batlantern? Yeah that should be KYLE. Am I pushing my brucekyle agenda. Perhaps. I just think it would be funnier for Kyle to try and bond with the batkids as their new stepmom. He's the same age as dick.

Possibly because other Teen Wolf actors have wound up playing DC characters, brain has decided to picture Tyler Posey when imagining a live action Nightwing and you know what that works pretty dang good.

Tyler Posey knows how to play a charismatic leader with a sunshine smile and sometimes goofy sense of humor who can be absolutely terrifying in defense of loved ones so yes. Good job brain.
