As someone who is studying history with a big interest in 1940-1980, it is insane to see the crack down on the college protests. History does nothing but repeat itself. It happened with protests against segregation, against the Vietnam War, against the Iraq war… and how we view it looking back is always the same. People always ask why studying history is important. This is exactly why.

There's something about this image of ronald Mcdonald looming ominously out of the fog like a simon stallenhag painting, Behind these protesters at the 2024 Macy's Thanksgiving day parade
Like this image is a metaphor for the big evil corporate overlords looming uncaring over the concerns of the people or some artistic thing like that

Where can I find Free Palestine protests and Ceasefire protests?
A super international and continually updated list of actions can be found at Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network's:
Tumblr media
Calendar of Resistance for Palestine 2024
They list events by date, then alphabetically by country, then by city - and it's common for them to have dozens of actions listed for a single date, especially on the weekends.
The United States especially often has 40+ events on a single day, especially on the weekends.
Events are posted with links to the event info posted by whoever's hosting the vast majority of the time.
Look blow the read-more for a list of many of the countries that have been on this protest calendar, in alphabetical order, since I know so many websites/lists of actions are country-specific
*Obviously this isn't the only good source of listings for protest events - there are many others. This is by far the biggest/most international roundup I've found, though, so I started with this. If you know another good place for finding ceasefire protests/events, please feel free to add it in the notes, bc I'm planning to put a bigger roundup together once I find enough other sites
Countries that Samidoun has listed/does list protests for include (in alphabetical order):
North America:
United States
Canada
Mexico
Puerto Rico (listed separately in anti-colonial solidarity)
Hawai'i (listed separately in anti-colonial solidarity)
Europe:
Austria
Belgium
Bulgaria
Denmark
England
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Romania
Scotland
Serbia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Wales
SWANA Region (Southwest Asia/North Africa)*:
Bahrain
Iraq
Jordan
Kuwait
Lebanon
Palestine
Tunisia
Turkiye (Turkey)
*Samidoun notes that "We know that these events are mainly international and that the Arab people are marching everywhere for Palestine – we will be honored to add more Arab events whenever we are informed!"
Asia:
Bangladesh
India
Indonesia
Japan
Malaysia
Maldives
Pakistan
South Korea
Africa:
Kenya
Mauritius
Nigeria
South Africa
Tanzania
Tunisia
*Duplicating North African countries (well, Tunisia) here from the SWANA list btw
South America:
Brazil
Colombia
Chile
Peru
Venezuela
Australia and Oceania:
Aotearoa (New Zealand)
Australia

🍉 Help Weam and her family 🍉
Weam's dreams of attending university came to a halt after the start of the genocide in the Gaza strip, and she and her family have been displaced many times ever since. Her mother needs medical care urgently as she suffers with a slipped disk from sleeping in tents for so long, and with the situation in Gaza at the moment, the only way to provide her with the attention she needs is by travelling elsewhere.
Please consider donating if you are able to, and spread Weam's campaign as well. Don't be afraid of talking about it outside of the internet, either! Educate your family, your friends, your colleagues, because the families in Gaza depend on your voice.
( Her account is @weamfanona )

So, look, the genuinely upsetting truth is that it's unlikely that Kamala Harris is going to do much of anything to help Palestinians
But unlike her, if Donald Trump is elected president, he will make it way harder for you to help Palestinians.
You will have a much harder time helping Palestinians if/when Trump:
Declares martial law/invokes the Insurrection Act (which there is extremely real danger of Trump doing) x, x, x, x, x, x
Destroys the right to protest (which his hand-picked Supreme Court has already done in three states) x, x, x
Starts arresting, criminally charging, and assassinating his political enemies (which he has talked about doing and which the Supreme Court just made fucking legal) x, x, x, x, x
Legally protects people who drive cars into crowds of protestors (which two Republican states have already done, and more states have introduced bills to do so) x, x, x, x
Starts deploying the US military in US cities and against protestors (which he has said he is going to do) x, x, x
Makes it so that anti-Zionism is legally defined as antisemitism in order to prosecute people (which the US House of Representatives and several states have already passed a bill to do) x, x, x, x
Advocates for Netanyahu to "finish the problem" in Palestine (he has already done this) x, x
Bans Palestinians and Palestinian refugees from entering the United States (which he has said he is going to do) x, x, x, x
Deports and revokes visas of pro-Palestinian protestors, including student visas (which he has said he is going to do) x, x, x
Reinstitutes and expands the Muslim ban (which he has said he is going to do) x, x, x, x, x
Calls for or incites violence against refugee communities (he is already knowingly doing this) x, x, x, x
Wrecks the economy so that a hell of a lot more people can't afford to donate money to support Palestinians x, x, x, x
Wrecks the economy and turns this country into an even shittier, more violent place, where far more people are too exhausted and focused on trying to survive to have the time or energy to advocate for Palestine (source: see all of the above)
The status quo is fucking bad but that doesn't change the fact that Trump would be fucking worse.

The Trump administration's plan to use artificial intelligence to deport international students that are deemed "pro-Hamas" has received a wide range of reactions this week from across the political spectrum, stirring fears of what this could mean for free speech in the US.  The US State Department reportedly plans to use AI to revoke the visas of foreign students who are deemed "pro-Hamas", Axios reported on Thursday, citing senior State Department officials. The “Catch and Revoke” project, launched by Secretary of State Marco Rubio according to Axios, will see "AI-assisted reviews of tens of thousands of student visa holders' social media accounts [and] marks a dramatic escalation in the US government's policing of foreign nationals' conduct and speech”.
