Thank you, Anon!! That really means a lot, and I'm also so sorry that it's been such a difficult journey for you :( I couldn't even imagine how many people are still awaiting a diagnosis, or even being refused a fair consultation, in the first place

I think the process really depends on what country and what region you live in. I'm from the UK personally, and the beginning of this was a little messy, too

After finishing Uni and moving away from my hometown to live with my partner, I decided I was finally going to try my hand at seeking aid, because so many people in the years before had suspected I might've been neurospicy, and I wanted to improve my quality of life. That first meeting with my new GP didn't go so well, however. Despite how upset and emotional I had gotten about the topic, and without giving me a chance to explain, she just straight up said she doesn't think I have ADHD, and instead got me a CBT referral for my anxiety (which, yes, I've had for years but it's been so much better)

That interaction alone made me crumble, and I thought, "yeah, maybe I don't have it and I'm just trying to make excuses for myself". It took a lot for my fella and my friends to really push me into fighting for it. Luckily, the CBT therapist assigned to me was so so so lovely, she's the first therapist I've ever felt that comfortable with, and after my course was done with her, she took the liberty of referring me to our local ADHD team

I will say, it was still a process, what with the waiting lists and such, but even just knowing there was something happening made me feel a lot better. Although after a year of silence, I did think they forgot about me 😂 BUT once I had gotten to the part where you fill out the forms and questionnaires, it was surprisingly prompt. I've now gotten my medication, and I'm due a follow-up in the coming month!

So, Anon, if there is any advice I can give to you to get you on this path, it's that you should:

Really push for it. Even if you worry about sounding pushy or forceful, sometimes it's the way you have to do it to get through to them. Telling your doctor/clinician/current therapist how much this is affecting your daily life - the impact it's having - is often the only language they understand Or

Go directly to the source. If you're having trouble getting a referral, it might be worth looking up your local services and contacting them instead. Make your statement if you have to

Do your research. I personally had a look at the DSM-5 and made notes of all the examples I could think of that related to each diagnostic criteria, both from my childhood and my life currently. You can never do enough research; it really helps when you get to talking to a professional on the matter. Be sure to check the reliability of your sources, though. As I say, DSM-5 is probably the best way to do it

Be patient. Universally, the waiting lists are long. More and more people are seeking answers every day, so don't worry if you feel like you've been abandoned. They will get to you eventually

And I will also say that medication isn't explicitly the way forward. They should give you the option to either go forward if you're happy with your diagnosis or to trial meds if you want to give them a go

So I do a lot of book suggestion with my public libraries because, well, I'm a big reader and I can't buy all of the books, no matter how much i might want to.

Anyway, it always completely baffles me when, with series - especially when its in ebook form where you can see fairly easily on Libby whether or not there is another installment after the one you're currently reading - *I* have to suggest the next book for it to be picked up.

And not in a 'why is the librarian not buying it' way, but rather in a 'why are people not asking for it????'

For exemple, I've been reading a series of like 5-6 books total. I suggested my library get the first ebook, suggestion got accepted, i read the book and liked it well enough. About 10-ish people were in the hold queue. Of course that doesn't mean they actually liked it but whatever.

I suggested the second book, and because of the nature of ebooks reservation, some people got to read it before me. Ok fine. I read it, about 6-7 people are on the hold queue when i finish it.

Guess what? No one asked for the third book.

For EVERY book in the series, i had to ask for the next one and i'm just...

For people to read it before me, they had to have an alert on the book so they would know when it becomes available at once. Cuz obviously I have those alerts, but even just checking 5 minutes after the notification, there would be at least 2-3 people with a hold on the book already.

And its not even a 'oh, the library will get the ebooks at a certain time every months/few months so that's why it wasn't available yet'

I finished the second to last book of the series recently. It had been available since like october-ish. I had actually started back then, but since I'm not a fan of reading ebooks, I couldnt finish the book in time, so into the hold queue I went.

I know that public library. I know how often they get their ebook. If anyone had asked for the last book, it would be available already.

It wasn't.

Do people not know they can suggest books? Is the process too obscure for them?

Anyway, there is no point to this post except to say, my good peeps, you can make books (or dvds or games or whatever kind of item your public library offer) suggestion! You usually can do it online!

If you can't find where exactly, usually just googling 'purchase suggestion' or 'reccomand a title' with the name of your public library will get you to the right page

And if you're still not sure, you should ask your librarian, they'll be happy to tell you how!

AuDHD is so funny sometimes like what do you mean my hyperfixations/special interests will last for years on end or possibly forever but they will cycle out every month or two with absolutely no transitional period or warning. like i will think about the same topic every day obsessively for 46 days in a row and on the 47th day with no visible cause adhd brain goes "ok! bored of that now" and autism brain goes "dw i got something queued up for ya" and i blast into full blown obsession on some other topic whose mental file folders haven't opened in 9 months. brain's out here treating hyperfixations like a crop rotation. once the dopamine runs out it cycles in another one but once something's in the rotation it never ever leaves. last summer we brought in one from when i was 11. it's so funny to me but frustrating too bc like. i cannot stress enough my inability to predict or control this. or how completely abrupt and random it can be

writing is so silly because you have to maintain the understanding that you're not more specialer than anyone else and your work needs improvement and you have more to learn. but also you have to fully believe that your stuff is amazing. mindblowing. masterpiece the likes of which no one has ever seen before. you really have to hold these contradictory beliefs next to each other and force them to play nice. it's like shoving your shoulder angel and devil into a "get-along shirt." It doesn't make any sense. But if you don't, you're not going to get anywhere

You have to pursue what your writing Could Be with dogged determination while unflinchingly perceiving what it Actually Is. You have to accept that you're not more deserving or likely to succeed than any other writer, but you also have to love and honor and cling to your own specific mad genius because no one else is going to do it for you. Writing is really hard and it's also really worth it.

Fifth Consequence of becoming a Fairy: Alterations of the Soul.

The child's body undergoes Physical Changes to become a fairy, but they also undergo a metaphysical change as well. The soul must be adjusted, shaped, broken and remade. These changes allows the child to accept magic into their body, and handle any disruptions in time or perception.

Their soul is transformed into their proper Fairy's Crown, and the child would have officially become a True Pixie! Yippiiiie!!

Thankfully, this part of the process is painless! Or, well, more like Timmy fell unconscious during it. Though Timmy says he sometimes feels strange moments of loss. Like an essential part of himself has been ripped away from where it should be.
