Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.
There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.

this is a PSA for fic writers who haven't updated in a while :
there are fics out there I'm subscribed to that have gone double digit months without updating.
rest assured the moment those babies catapult an AO3 email my way i'm dropping from the face of the earth to sink my teeth into them
i'll wait, and so will your readers

So what if I'm not good enough?
No, seriously. So what if I'm not 'good enough'?
Who am I hurting by not being good enough? No one. Writing is a craft that gives, not takes away. Even the worst stories in the world can give the reader something, whether it was meant to or not.
So what if I gain a reputation for being a 'bad' writer? So what if people avoid my work for all the reasons I fear? So what? No seriously. So what?
I own who I am. I write my own words. They come from my heart alone. I don't use the plagiarism machine. I don't lie about my ethnicity. I don't exploit other people. I don't harass others, or chase them off social media. I don't hurt people to lift myself up, or for my own selfish fun. I'm not an asshole, at least, I try not to be.
So what if I'm not 'good enough'? So what if you're 'not good enough'? There's so much worse things to be than that.
And at the end of the day, I'm pretty sure, the only person who thinks I'm not good enough is myself. I mean, have you ever once looked at another person, nevermind a writer, and gone 'you're not good enough'? I haven't. I bet you haven't either.
Maybe you and I, we should show ourselves a little kindness tonight.

writing is so silly because you have to maintain the understanding that you're not more specialer than anyone else and your work needs improvement and you have more to learn. but also you have to fully believe that your stuff is amazing. mindblowing. masterpiece the likes of which no one has ever seen before. you really have to hold these contradictory beliefs next to each other and force them to play nice. it's like shoving your shoulder angel and devil into a "get-along shirt." It doesn't make any sense. But if you don't, you're not going to get anywhere
You have to pursue what your writing Could Be with dogged determination while unflinchingly perceiving what it Actually Is. You have to accept that you're not more deserving or likely to succeed than any other writer, but you also have to love and honor and cling to your own specific mad genius because no one else is going to do it for you. Writing is really hard and it's also really worth it.

i cannot stress this enough truly one of the best ways to improve your writing is to ignore any and all advice that circulates online, like forget literally EVERYTHING people are saying you should be doing, and READ BOOKS!!!!!! READ THINGS THAT YOU LIKE!!!!!!!!! READ THINGS IN THE GENRE YOU WANT TO WRITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my new favorite method

Prompt (398)
“What are you-” the hero began.
The villain shushed the hero as they sat down next to them. “Hasn’t anyone ever told you to be quiet in movie theatres?”
“Why are you here? How did you find me?” the hero hissed.
The villain bit their lip. “So I’m kind of running from someone, and I need to look like I’m on a date. I know this is your day off, and you’ve been wanting to see the movie for months. Can I put my arm over your chair?”
The hero stared incredulously at the villain as their enemy threw their arm over the hero’s seat.
“How did you know all that?” the hero asked.
“Be quiet and watch the movie.”

Writing is pain but I love those small moments when you're writing and a new character decides to spawn in out of nowhere and you suddenly have this AHA moment of "you 🫵🫵🫵are absolutely going to ruin [other character]'s life 🫵🫵you are their new obsession 🫵🫵"

there's no way to say this without sounding like i can't take criticism (i can, it's something i had to work on like everybody else), but some people are like. really bad at giving constructive criticism and i think if you're receiving crit from someone that's not a bad thing to keep in mind for ur own sanity lol

Hello hello!!! Your writing is so delicious and fun!! Do you think you might be willing to write about a (flirty) Villain that kidnaps Hero for their own good? Maybe Hero is sick and is exhausting themselves by overworking and Villain has simply had enough of it?? Totally fine if you don't, have an awesome day all the same!!
"Y'know you didn't have to kidnap me, right?" Hero sighs. They struggle against their bindings yet again, fruitlessly.
Villain takes their eyes off the road momentarily, glancing over at Hero in the passenger seat.
"Agree to disagree." They say simply, returning their attention to driving. "Now hush, I'm not trying to get pulled over with a famous hero tied and bound in my car."
"Cops would probably think I'm into it." Hero quips. "Could say we're coming back from a BDSM c -"
Hero is interrupted as Villain swerves, making them yelp.
"Serves you right." Villain huffs. They don't miss how red in the face they've gotten. "You probably are into it. You've barely struggled the whole way."
Villain looks over to them, glancing from the side of their eye. They wait to see if Hero has any more retorts left before continuing. "Or maybe you realize I was right. You need to take a break." Their voice is slowly veering to a more serious tone.
Scoffing, Hero rolls their eyes. "Don't assume. Maybe I'm simply am into being tied up." They make a show of struggling again, though without much effort. "I don't need a break."
"Yes, you do." Villain pauses. "And you probably are, you little deviant."
"I'm perfectly fine." They snap, voice more biting now than before. "You can't just kidnap me because you think I'm overworking myself - that's not how it works. It's now how we work."
Villain sighs. The teasing mood from before is starting to evaporate. Resisting the urge to make another joke, they speak with a calm and firm undertone.
"You're working yourself to the bone. I'm not stupid, I can see it for myself." Their fingers drum against the steering wheel, a rhythmic tapping as they continue. "If you're not careful, you're going to end up in the hospital because of it. Or dead"
"It's none of your business." Hero speaks as they keep their eyes trained out the passenger side window, watching as the light they're at turns green.
"It's always my business when someone is endangering my nemesis. Even when it's them endangering themselves." They look at Hero again, gaze sharper than before. "That's how we work."
Hero doesn't miss the tension in Villain's jaw, the way they grip the wheel harder. The slight flush in their face from Hero's earlier teasing is gone now. They don't understand why Villain cares or why their behavior vexs their nemesis, but they're aware it does.
"So what, you're just going to keep me captive until you decide to let me go?" They huff as Villain turns down another road.
"What I'm going to do is take you back to one of my safe houses, where you will rest, god so help me, for the next few days."
Hero opens their mouth to argue, but Villain raises a hand in a silencing manner, no patience for arguments. Hero scoffs and settles back into their seat, letting the quiet settle around them uncomfortably for the next several minutes.
After a few more turns, Villain pulls up an unmarked dirt road, vehicle slowing to a crawl as they reach the intended destination.
As they lean over and undo their seatbelt for them, Hero feels Villain's warmth and smells their sweet fragrance. They try not to react as Villain's hands graze their side.
Finally, Villain breaks the silence, still not leaning away from them.
"You won't be bored if that's what you're worried about. I have plenty of movies and books to keep you entertained." They speak in a more hush tone now, still close. "I won't cage you either. Once we're inside, I'll take the rope off you."
Their lips twitch up in the slightest of grins, pausing for a moment as a hint of humor lights up their eyes. "But knowing you, you'd probably prefer staying tied up."

"Faeries were always supernaturally beautiful, even if they didn’t look like they’d be. No human flaws mattered when it came to faeries: Double chins, crooked teeth, too thin, too fat, too small, it was no problem. They always seemed absolutely lovely. The only ones who could tell each other’s imperfections were their own kind.
(...)
Cornelius had a thin, oblong face, usually framed by his shaggy, now shoulder length hair, which was sometimes blonde, sometimes black, sometimes red, depending on his whims. His eyes were a dark blue that looked black to the untrained eye, and were topped by well kept blonde eyebrows. And sure, it all looked rather nice—but he was a tad cross-eyed (on the right eye, which you could notice when he looked at you), and he had a smile that was wide,"full of teeth." (...) His smile had been described as cute, especially when he laughed, which made him look like a flower petal—delicate. However, even with all his alleged beauty, Abigail also heard it being described as creepy and off-putting, especially when he was smiling without true emotion. She sided with the latter reports."
My final OC lore dump of the year <3 it took me days to get Neeley looking right and I still don't know if I did it, tbh. I also created a specific font for the Fairy Society Gazette, which will be below the cut. I have no idea why photoshop ate the quality of the text so much when the drawing looks fine, but oh well.
Happy almost new year!

(The font is rather crooked as it was hand drawn using bad hardware and my own handwriting as a base).

Prompt (500)
The villain froze. “Wait. . .was that-”
The villain’s sidekick looked at the waiter, who was walking away from their table. “The hero, undercover, intent on taking you down? Yes, it was.”
“So-” the villain cleared their throat, “so when they were flirting with me just now. . .”
The villain’s sidekick rolled their eyes. Of course the villain chose the worst person in the world to have a crush on.
