As someone fortunate enough to attend DC's panel at MegaCon today with some of the biggest names in comics (Geoff Johns [Justice Society of America], Joshua Williamson [Superman], Simone DiMeo [DC vs Vampires], Mitch Gerads [Batman: The Brave and the Bold] and Phillip Kennedy Johnson [Action Comics]) here's all the information I managed to write down on what they discussed regarding the future of DC:

All quotes are NOT direct quotes, they are paraphrased. I may be a fast typer but not that good. Spoilers Ahead! Obviously.

Kicking off with the Flash Family, the upcoming releases will explore what Barry and Iris do when they "disappear" every week for date night. No one knows what they could possibly be up to! Turns out, they love to visit the future together, how they get there will be the true story. They also mentioned digging deeper into how being trapped in the speed force impacted ____. (I dont follow Flash so I don't know who they were referring to)

Next is the Superfam (and Arrowfam breifly):

Johnson spoke on Action Comics and said he wanted to evolve the Superfamily as much as the Batfamily has been. Recent comics have been able to take each member of the Batfam and develop them as solo characters to then let them interact with the others as a family. Johnson wants the same for the Superfam. He hates how the family has been boiled down to "looks" (i.e. Kon is just the one with the jacket, the twins are the lookalikes, etc) instead of them as defined characters. Within Action Comics and hopefully more, he hopes to delve into their entire family dynamic just as much as DC has done with the Bats.

Action Comics has been introducing the idea of Aliens coming to earth and certain protests spawning from it, wanting the earth to remain isolated and independent in the galaxy. They breifly teased the idea that this could be emotionally taxing on the Supers---especially Jon and Clark as the more active heroes atm---since they themselves are technically "Aliens". They also said that this new enemy set up will be very impactful for the future of the DCU.

Williamson Chimed in quite a bit to discuss the psychology behind Lex Luther and Clark Kent. "Lex isn't stupid. He's one of the smartest people in the DCU. When he looks at Clark, sometimes he recognizes that the world does need a Superman, but a good one. Lex may just have ulterior motives---i mean, he's lex, he always has ulterior motives---to force Clark to be a better Superman. And when Clark looks at people, all he sees Is the good in them. He sees their potential for growth. But when he looks at Lex, all he feels is disappointment. He feels disappointed in Lex sure, but he feels even more disappointed in himself for failing Lex."

"I love the backstory that Lex is from Smallville. When Clark leaves Smallville, there's what, ten years? Before he makes his way to Metropolis. And when he gets there, Lex is already there. What was he doing during that time? Metropolis had its fair share of villains but he destroyed them so that he could be Lex Luthor, the true villain of the city."

They then mentioned briefly about wanting to do the same thing for the Arrow Family as they did with the Bats and strive to do with the Supers. An upcoming series will explore Oliver getting "lost" and the family coming together to find him. Very exciting.

They showed plenty of beautiful artwork that has not been released yet! Sorry for the grainy photos, I tried as best as I could with my Motorola ok :P

This is for my fellow writers out there!! When asked about this image, Williamson and Johnson said that Clark "wishes people could hear what he does. He hears all of humanity in a connected thum, it's one heartbeat, not billions overlapping. All of our hearts beat together as one. When searching for specific people, he has to focus in through that single heartbeat."

Green Lantern was next! They announced a new run titled War Jounrals which follows US Marine John Stewart. They took heavy inspiration from 80s action movies such as Alien vs Predator when crafting this series. With DC's emphasis on mental health awareness and representation, I really hope they dive into the PTSD that comes from war. Not much was mentioned about this series to confirm or deny this.

Stargirl continuation: When asked about the writing/inspiration behind the future of her comics, they said they "wanted to dig into what being a side kick means---used to mean, anyway---and bring that back. Side Kicks are supposed to be a hero starting within the community, starting small, but always taking the time to save a kid and instil hope in that kid. That small difference makes a side kick. They start with so much hope only to be forgotten about, we want to bring back the old bright tone that was in Young Justice."

The Justice Society of America will follow the Huntress. She brings villains onto her team to offer them a chance to reform and walk a better path, a good path. She wants to be the same way her father, Bruce Wayne, was with her mother, Selina Kyle. The Huntress will link into the rest of the current DCU as she will get trapped in a timeline? Do I know what this means? Absolutely not. But apparently its gonna be important so

And finally! The Batfamily!!!

The first major announcement was the relaunch of Batman: the Brave and the Bold. Upon looking back at the original source material, they decided to extend the 9 page issue to a 96 page story line. They really wanted to deep dive into the series since they thought it had more to tell than what it did originally.

Since this is year one Batman, this will be the story of how Batman first encountered the Joker himself. They didn't share much on the contents but said it would stay true to the original, so this is not a retcon, it's just a more intesive retelling.

The artist for this series admited that he actually forgot year one Batman wouldn't have such a modern suit. After realizing this only after completing the series, he had to go back and redraw every panel with Batman in it. He very proudly said "shit!"

And of course, the HUGE announcement taking the internet by storm:

Batman and Robin

This series will follow after the events of Lazarus Planet and the Lazarus Tournament Damian went through. It will follow Bruce and Damian Wayne as they "come together not just as heros this time, but as father and son." This series is going to be a pretty heavy one since it will dive into how they come together "without Alfred as the buffer as the mentor figure for them both." Not only will Bruce continue on his current character arc of viewing each of the Robins as his sons and truly supporting them, but Damian will be front and center to cope with Alfred's death.

Williamson spoke on this heavily as he was supposed to leave Batman and Robin, but he actually went to DC and said "I'm not done with Damian, there's still more story to tell. He's not going anywhere." But he also mentioned a key point for Damian's growth: "He was trained by Talia and of course by Bruce, but he was also trained by Alfred so you'll see how that shapes Damian interacting with Bruce going forward, especially as they grow as Father and Son."

They said this will tie into the next big series in the DCU which follows Damian having "nightmares and demons". That was all that was mentioned about that.

The Gotham City Zoo will be a huge set piece for the series and I truly hope we see more canon content of Damian's love for animals in this run.

The focus of Damian is him growing into himself and become more emotionally aware of himself and those around him. With Alfred's impression on him, there will be key moments of Damian interacting with Bruce as Bruce goes through tough times.

Additinally, Williamson adores Damian being a fan of manga. Since it's shown Damian has been reading a romance one, there's some hope for emotional connection with others not in a romantic way, but moreso in the ability to be vulnerable with people in a way he has only been able to read about. It's implied he could be reading this manga as a yearning for connection to others on a deeper level, especially as someone who grew up to ignore his emotions. So this will follow Damian as he tries to let himself be more connected to his loved ones the way Alfred was teaching him to. Plus, his love for manga will not be going anywhere, it's "staying strong."

Damian will get his own car! Williamson wanted to give him a car that matched him since hes "a little rough around the edges." It will be a fun addition while the duo grow as family since Bruce will have to be okay with Damian driving. "Its gonna be Bruce saying he's gonna drive and then you turn the page and Damian is saying 'he's got something' and Bruce has to get used to letting his son drive him."

Very much Bruce growing out of strictness to be more soft with his sons as we've seen in the more recent comics.

And ofc, Simone Di Meo will be the artist for this series!! As well as the cover artist for The Brave & The Bold!

I am super excited for how DC is starting to write the Batfamily and even the Superfamily. They're starting to tackle a lot of mental health issues and the trauma old comics have left the characters with. It's not perfect by any means, especially with Batman v. Robin being more than a little rough, it had it's moments.

My main concern is how they'll be treating Tim going forward. With TDR getting shortened and Damian returning as Robin, I really really hope they don't just forget Tim exists. My hope is that with Tim's new title, there will be room for another solo series under that title in the way Nightwing and Spoiler has been done.

The last thing I want is for Tim to go through all this work finding where he belongs and how he views himself just to join/lead another team. He's defining himself aside from the Robin legacy to define who he is under his new title. I think he needs time as a solo hero before rejoining a group for an extensive time period. I don't want them to erase all his personal growth just because they don't want to give him another solo series. I'll be more than a little upset at the lost potiential.

DPxDC - Duul Aman Thal

Dude, what if Duul Aman was the result of Chay-Ara Hol & Bashari's indiscretions?

Like, Duul Aman was half-Thanagarian & had wings?

I mean, the entire reason Chay-Ara started her affair was because Katar wouldn't give her children...

And, I know that, logically, it'd be near impossible for Chay-Ara to hide her pregnancy from Katar, but some women don't gain that much weight during pregnancy.

Maybe she gave birth at Bashari's & he raised him?

Thing is, I'm pretty sure that Duul Aman would still be eligible for the throne as, unless I'm mistaken, Katar & Chay-Ara were made king & queen together. Like, it wasn't just Katar named king & him being married to Chay-Ara made her queen by marriage. Rather, she was named queen herself.

Meaning she had equal claim to the throne. So, even though Duul Aman wasn't Katar's, he was still Chay-Ara's, thus he had claim to the throne of Egypt.

Plus, we know that Katar & Chay-Ara specifically didn't ever have kids together before dying. However, if they had, then they, of course, would've had more claim to the throne than Duul Aman, but since they didn't, then the only one able to ascend the throne at the time would've been Duul Aman. And, provided he inherited his mother's wings, it'd be rather easy to prove his heritage.

Though, that does make my hc that Duul Aman is descended from Ra, as per Egyptian belief, a little murky. Then again, I could make it so he's descended from Ra through Bashari.

It's possible that Egyptian mythology predated Egypt itself...

I do find it interesting that Duul Aman was a sorcerer despite being half-Thanagarian as Thanagarians use Nth metal, which negates magic.

Do Thanagarians even have magic? If not, then did his magic come from Bashari's side of the family? Hmm...

Headcanon: Valor Lakefront

Canon: During the events of DPPt/BDSP/Gen IV anime, it's clear that the Lake Trio has effectively become little more than myths and rumors and legends for most of the people of Sinnoh ('It's said that something lives in that lake, maybe?').

Following the events of Gen IV, Azelf has been definitively proven to exist and reside in Lake Valor.

Headcanon:

Initially, the locals living at the lakefront, and the hotel staff considered vacating or building a shrine to Azelf to avoid the Pokémon's disfavor and/or to honor the being that the more religious sort proclaimed to have helped create the universe (When the people in charge actually think to ask some of the devout (or at least their foremost local lorekeeper) if this is a good plan, the responses to the ideas that Azelf would like them either simply giving up and leaving or blindly worshipping it is "That is not our tradition"). Eventually, someone has the chutzpah to suggest building a (possibly Green Lanturn-themed) Rollercoaster(?) park or Battle Tower of some sort of other attraction where people and Pokémon can test their willpower/courage/determination ("That is our tradition.").

And so they did. One might now find Medicham and Lucario meditating there. And if you're lucky you might see Azelf itself on a/the rollercoaster (or some equivalent) ride, or helping out whichever kid decides it's a bright idea to challenge Cynthia if she's in the area. At the lakefront, people and pokémon hyping themselves up and/or doing something courageous may hear montage music in the background - which may or may not just be in their heads. Meanwhile, having since learned about the Green Lanturn franchise/comic/character/etc, it is said that the master of the lake will curse anyone there who disparages it and psychically compel them to go and buy merchandise from the local comic shop.

Before you summoned your weapon and left the pool to get your clothes, you gasped watching a head pop up from where the glowing was coming from. His hair was long and as white as snow, flowing behind him like a small river adorned with two stripes of blue. His skin was pale and dewy from the water, also illuminated in gold from the sunset.

Your eyes felt misty focusing on every curve of his face: his high cheekbones, his thin rosy lips. After all these years, he kept the same form.

“Neuvillette…” you called out. You couldn’t stop those words from leaving your mouth. His head slowly turned to meet yours, eyes widening in recognition as he looked at your form in the pool.

“ She…freed her people of their curse. The nation of Fontaine is thriving more than ever,” he replied. He turned his head away, smile faltering, recalling the months that still haunted him.

“...Furina did? I wish Egeria lived to see it. I’m sure Furina is as happy as ever—”

”...The cost was a part of her life. She destroyed her throne for her people. She is now just a human, set to age as all others do,” he admitted. Your gaze leaves his, looking down at your bare body.

“I see…” you trailed off. Your heart ached. You wondered if she still remembered you. Both she and Neuvillette had to go through such troubles alone. You wondered if they felt abandoned by you.

You take a deep breath trying to process everything. You were even sure if you’d be able to see Furina in her human lifetime.

”I hope she didn’t think I abandoned her before she passed. I hope you didn’t either. I left to try to find a solution to our problem, asking the other Archons for their help or ideas but…I ran into trouble as you can imagine,” you whispered. The softness in Neuvillette’s eyes hardened quickly momentarily.

“If you’re in Liyue, I’m guessing it has something to do with Morax?” he asked. You ball your fist tightly beneath the water, nails harpooning against your palm before sighing and letting it go.

“I was almost killed by these..abyssal beasts and their poison before he found me. Apparently, he was familiar with my work in Fontaine. He offered his help to save my life and give me a solution to Fontaine’s problem. In desperation, I agreed. I was forced to become one of his adepti by that contract,” you revealed.

Neuvillette sighed, anger coaxing his brows but he didn’t touch further on your life with Morax.

“Shouldn’t your contract be fulfilled now that Fontaine is saved?” Neuvillette asked. You clenched your jaw, slowly shaking your head.

“...No. Our contract had been written that he had to give me the solution. By not telling me himself, our contract is now fulfilled and I’m stuck subservient to him. I tried to go back to Fontaine but…”

You sighed, pressing your lips against his soft palm resting on your cheek. You missed his touch, it always calmed you in times of uncertainty. Neuvillette’s gaze softened once more as he leaned in, pressing a kiss on your forehead.

Power asks, How about the power to make hologram screens that can show anything you've ever seen. They can also write words as you speak/think them. I guess they could probably become a shield too but that takes more energy.

About the Blake as Batwoman AU;

What do you think about Jaune as the Flash, Ren as Green Lantern(Hal), Ruby as Green Lantern(Jessica Cruz), Sun as Green Arrow, Oscar as Kid Flash, and Ozpin/Ozma as Dr Fate?

Jaune got struck by lightning, but his aura awakened and saved his life by granting him a Speedforce connection. He then took the young Oscar Pines under his wing when something similar happened when his Aunt Ruby(secretly a Green Lantern) brought him along to meet her boyfriend.

Ren was chosen to join the Green Lantern Corp and patrols Remnant as an Emerald Knight, working with Flash and fellow Green Lantern, Ruby Rose, often and becoming friends with them, while dealing with Nora flirting with him as Star Sapphire.

Sun learned how to survive by growing up on the streets of Vacuo and became someone else, something else…He became Vacuo’s Green Arrow, the Emerald Archer.

When Dr. Ozpin dons the Helm of Fate, his soul becomes one with the spirit of Ozma, granting him powers akin to the twin gods themselves!

It sounds like an interesting team, for sure.

I like the Jaune/Oscar team-up. Especially if Oscar is the head of "The Flash Fan-Club." Or was that Eobard Thawne?

Ruby and Ren as Green Lanterns is also a neat concept, since Green Lanturn is powered by will, which fits perfectly with Ruby, and is harmed by emotions, such as fear and anger, which fits Ren. Also, just so I'm clear, Ruby is Oscar's aunt, and she's dating Jaune. That right? And yes, yes, yes to Star Sapphire Nora.

Sun as a survivor in the brutal streets to become Emerald Archer is an interesting idea, and I'd like to see more of it. However, my only critique is him using a bow. I think if it stayed the bow, and the parts of the bow staff could be swapped out to fulfill a different purpose. And yes, I am thinking of the boxing glove staff piece.

Ozpin as a researcher who stumbles on the Helm of Fate would be a great idea, especially if he can consul with the previous members of Ozma, as Dr. Fate can do himself.

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Wonderful!!! Have you seen photos of anglerfish? Unless you have very specific tastes, I don't think that "cute" is a word that you could use to describe them…unless you're in the world of Pokémon in which case, by all means. Chinchou and Lanturn were introduced in Generation 2 (The Gold, Silver & Crystal games) to add to the growing catalog of aquatic monsters. As previously implied, they are both based on the angler fish though Chinchou's connection is definitely more subtle compared to its evolution (though its shape may be based on the fact that one type of angler fish is the footballfish). However, in both cases, the light on their antennae trades out glowing bacteria for raw electrical power which grants them their secondary typing, access to some shocking attacks, and the ability Volt Absorb, which true to form, takes any electricity thrown against them and turns it into healing. I do think Chinchou is the more relevant of the two considering it has a more unique design, a less on the nose name and while it's not a powerhouse, it has carved out a strong place in the Little Cup circuit. That being said, I still have a soft spot for Lanturn who was a valuable member of my favorite team that I ever ran in Heart Gold (his name was Louie). And above all, they are both cute as heck. Look at those faces. That's wonderful right there. BONUS WONDERFUL!!!: Also, ahem…LOOK AT THIS SUPER DELIGHTFUL HOLIDAY CHINCHOU PLUSHIE WITH THE LITTLE HAT WITH THE HOLLY BERRIES AND THE RED, GREEN AND WHITE RIBBONS AND JUST OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, IT'S SOOOO CUUUUUUUUTE!!!…ok, c'mon.
