Note
my phone ran out of battery in the middle of my ramble (sweaty reader who delayed her shower to finish the chapter) BUT IM HERE AGAIN TO TYPE IT OUT! (still… haven’t showered)
spoilers ahead WARNING! ❎ ❎
jade… how did you write this. how did you. are you a literature major? it seems like your writing gets better every time I come back to it. you have a otherworldly talent, is all I can say. you’re able to convey the emotions so clearly, so vividly, as if I’m living through this story myself.
firstly, can we talk about the parallels between hyun and y/n? “i love painting in the dark— the lights are too bright.” I had to put my phone down and contemplate my life decisions for a couple of minutes there. seriously. the parallels between them are INSANE i cant even
for me, this chapter highlighted the harsh truth behind both the art and the music industry (specifically: idol). it makes my heart ache knowing damn well that this might be a story where these situations are fiction, conjured up from your (fantastic, amazing, show-stopping) imagination, but this is someone else’s reality. idols barely having time to take a breather, the micromanagement, it just felt awfully real, scarily so. the fact that companies care more about capitalising off of hyun’s art—- it felt real. chan’s sacrifices, him barely sleeping? felt real. and so did mr kim jieong (would swear but… new year new me so this is as far as I will go) or should I say: MR SKUNK FACE PEDOPHILE DOUBLE DMMING UNLOYAL AUTHORITY ABUSER ok I’m done sorry. i know damn well that what happened to y/n is real. it happens, it definitely does. people in positions of power trying to use people’s desperation to their advantage and ABUSING it. it felt like i was the one living through that scene. i could feel his advances, i could see him in front of me, gripping my own jaw. amazing, amazing writing.
okay, secondly: THE SYMBOLISM THROUGH THE FLOWERS? god. the seasons and the flowers. hits every single time. the moment you mentioned flowers I knew where this was going. i knew where it was. i feel like the flowers represented both hyun & y/n. not necessarily their love for each other (no definitely not), but how the r/s between them became sour due to their… unfortunate circumstances. i think I’m wrong though! I’ll reread the chapter a couple more times and revisit by statement, but that is my first impression after reading ch18 for the first time!
THIRDLY, i love jeongin sm omg.
last but not least, here is my take on what will happen:
mr k- PEDOPHILE threatens hyun & y/n, hyun comes to warn y/n
i cant think of any rn I’m still in my shocked state (because this was so good)
personally, i think this is one of your best chapters by far. jade, words cannot explain HOW much i love your writing. thank you so, so much. happy early new year jade! much love from asia 🫶🏻
omg. im not a literature major but that’s SO sweet haha 😭 its good to hear that you think it gets better, i hope i improve each day.
yes ofc its not a hyunyn soulmate moment without the parallels. they’re so like each other 🤭 and yeah its sad that these things are so common and happen often in those industries, especially with people in positions of power. i obviously don’t know what goes on behind the scenes in the industry so most of it is my imagination, but i can believe some of the micromanagement might be too real :(
thank you for loving the flower symbolism ! i dedicated a lot of the chapter to it so im happy you liked and noticed it 🥺
thank you for thinking its my best chapter, wow ! i hope each one can be better than the previous.

The five of us rode our bikes down the road to school, El on the back of Mike's bike as usual. She seemed eager to soak in everything around her like she would never see it again. Wind brushed the wig aside and she clung tightly to Mike.
Mike was beginning to slow down, the group of us all growing tired from the ride. Soon enough, however, we were walking through the back doors to the schools. Mike was in the lead as he turns to speak to us as we walked.
"Okay, remember, if anyone sees us, look sad."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
'He is still missing, isn't he?'
My thoughts were interrupted by the crackling of the speaker.
"Attention students, there will be an assembly to honor Will Byers in the gymnasium now. Do not go to fourth period."
I looked to the ceiling at the mention of my best friend and by the time I looked ahead, we had made it outside the AV room. Mike was attempting to open the door but it must be locked.
"It's locked." Mike confirmed.
"What?" Lucas asked.
"Hey, El, is there any way for you to open it?" I ask.
Before she could respond, we all jumped at the voice of Mr. Clarke and froze.
"Boys? Lady." He nodded towards El.
"Hey." Lucas breathed, obviously startled.
"Assembly's about to start."
"We know. We're just, you know..." Mike works a solemn look on his face as he spoke and the others seemed to join in, including me although it wasn't that difficult.
"Upset." Lucas nodded, dropping his nervous smile.
"Yeah, definitely upset," Dustin muttered.
I opened my mouth to speak, but thought better to say nothing at all and even looked down to the ground. Channeling all my emotions from just hours before.
"We need some alone time."
"To... cry." Dustin hesitated.
"Yeah, listen... I get it. I do. I know how hard this is, but let's just be there for Will, huh? And then," Mr. Clarke reached into his pocket and pulled out a key.
He tossed the key to Mike who caught it upon instinct.
"the Heathkit is all yours for the rest of the day. What do you say?"
We all looked to each other, wearing subtle triumphant smirks. It couldn't have been that easy, could it?
Mr. Clarke seemed to finally notice that he had no idea who El was.
"I don't believe we've met. What's your name?"
El seemed shocked and began to say 'Eleven' when Mike panicked and cut in.
"Eleanor! She's my, uh-"
"Cousin!" Lucas jumped in.
"Second cousin," Dustin added.
I started to laugh but caught myself just in time to play it off as a cough. I pretended to clear my throat as I looked to Mr. Clarke who was looking a bit confused.
"She's here for Will's funeral." Mike sighed.
Mr. Clarke seemed content with this answer as he shrugged and turned to her.
"Ah, well, welcome to Hawkins Middle, Eleanor. I wish you were here under better circumstances."
She looked to us and Mike, then turned to Mr. Clarke nodding her head. "Thank you."
A small smile fought its way into my face. She was doing great.
"Uh, where are you from exactly?"
El shook her head, sighing exasperatedly. "Bad place-"
"Sweden!" Dustin cuts in.
"I have a lot of Swedish family."
"She hates it there."
"Cold!"
"Subzero."
Meanwhile, I had fought back another laugh at the whole exchange and I had to play it off as a cough yet again.
"Are you alright, Mr. Henderson?"
My head snapped up, but luckily I was fairly quick on my feet this time.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. I woke up with a fever, haven't been feeling well all morning. But I insisted on coming. For Will." Mr. Clarke seemed satisfied with my answer and dismissed our odd behavior.
"Shall we?"
"Yep!" We all follow Mr. Clarke to the gymnasium in silence.
As we get closer, I can hear the principal speaking from inside.
"At times like these, it is important that we come together as a community. We come-"
Dustin swung open the gymnasium doors far too hard and the loud bang echoed throughout the gym that had drawn the attention of the crowd. I elbow Dustin. I feel him shifting on his feet beside me as panic sets in.
"Abort." He whispers, turning to leave.
Thankfully, Lucas stops him and shoved him forward.
"We come together to heal... we come together to grieve..."
As the principle continues his speech, the five of us wander into the bleachers to find a seat.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
"Will Byers' death is an unimaginable tragedy. Will was an exceptional student and a wonderful friend to all of us. It's impossible to express the hole his loss will leave in our community. I'd like to introduce you to Sandy Sloane. She's a local grief counselor from the church over in Jonesboro."
While the principal carried on, the five of us all looked to each other, all sharing the same thought.
'We need to get to that radio. And soon.'
"I just want those of you who are having trouble dealing with this tragic loss..."
"Look at these fakers." I heard Mike whisper.
"They probably didn't even know his name till today." Lucas scoffed.
My head whipped to the side when I heard hushed chuckling. I wasn't surprised to see Troy and his friend as the source of the laughter. I glared daggers into them and my hands gripped the edge of my seat until I was sure my knuckles would tear.
The boys and El seemed quick to follow my gaze because soon enough, we were all leaning over glaring at them.
"Who is interested in this? This is so stupid." He laughed.
I grit my teeth as my vision filled with red.
"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
"Y/n..." Lucas warned, reaching out for my arm. I wasn't paying attention, but for some reason, I felt his hand leave my arm almost as soon as he grabbed it.
"'Oh, he was such a great student. Oh, he's going to leave a hole in the community.'" Troy mocked, beginning to fake sob.
I began to shake with rage, wanting nothing more than to stand up and scream 'fu-'
"Y/n,"
"What?!" I hissed at Lucas, my head whipping around to face him, my jaw clenched.
I saw fear in his eyes as he glanced between my eye line and my hands. I looked down at my own hands to see the dangerously strong grip on the wood. I yanked my hands off the bench and rubbed my hands together, keeping to myself.
I was shocked to see the faintest imprint of the most vaguely shaped hand on the bench. It was hardly noticeable and I had to do a double take.
'What the hell?'
El was leaning over and she met my gaze. She briefly looked at my hands, seeming to dismiss whatever thoughts she had. Then looked to Troy.
"Mouth breather." She whispered.
I let out a strained chuckle and nodded.
"Yeah. Yeah, mouth breather." I whispered, looking back and Troy.
Eventually, the bell rang, dismissing the assembly. Even though Lucas and Dustin seemed to have let it go, Mike and I were not finished.
"Hey! Hey! Hey Troy." Mike called.
I could tell he could hear us because he barely slowed down but was clearly laughing. I stomped towards him and called him out, loud and clear.
"Hey, jackass!"
He stopped in his tracks and turned around. He seemed like he wanted to be mad, but almost like he was happy he got a rise out of us.
"You think that shit was funny?" My voice never wavered and the boys and El seemed just as shocked as I was feeling at my newfound courage.
"What'd you say, orphan?" He asked, dumbfounded.
He only called me that when he was really pissed at me.
"You heard me! And how many times do I have to tell you, I'm not an orphan if I was adopted, you dumbass! Now what the hell is in that tiny brain of yours that would compel you to laugh at someone dying, huh? I mean, shit, you must really be sick in the head. I feel sorry for you." I spit out my last few words, my voice dripping with malice.
By now I was in his face, finally letting out all the pent-up aggression I've harbored for years. And it felt good.
"Get the hell outta my face, freak!" He yells shoving me back.
I get ready to strike but Dustin grabs my arm before my fist can collide with Troy's face. I struggle to get free but my brother was determined to hold me back, with the help of Lucas of course.
"Control your 'brother', Toothless. Or he just might lose a few teeth of his own." He glares at me and I still attempt to break free.
Mike seems to have found his voice as all of this happened because he was the next to speak.
"H-Hey, he's right! Laughing like that? That's a pretty messed up thing to do."
Troy, glares at us as his minion speaks.
"Didn't you listen to the counselor, freaks? Grief shows itself in funny ways."
"You little shit-" I attempt once more to get a right hook in but Lucas stops me.
Troy laughs at me struggling.
"Besides, what's there to be sad about, anyway? Will's in fairyland now, right? Flying around with all the other little fairies. All happy and gay!"
Lucas loosened his grip on me, silently letting me go as Troy began dancing around, mocking Will.
I swung my fist and I felt it collide with his nose with a satisfying crack. He stumbled back and grasped his nose in surprise, he pulled his hand away to find a few drops of blood on his hands. The crowd that had gathered while all of this unfolded, gasped in surprise. I even earned some scattered cheers among the students.
I seemed to realize the consequences of my actions, but I was prepared to face them. It was worth it. I watched as he stormed towards me, blinded by fury.
"You're dead, freak!" He stomped towards me at a shocking speed and I stumbled back, bracing myself for the inevitable retaliation but it never came.
All I felt was a sudden pair of hands on my right arm, harshly pushing me out of the way. I looked in time to see it was Mike who pushed me out of the way. I gakwed in confusion at what happened next.
Troy had just begun to raise his arm as he was only inches from Mike when he froze.
He completely froze in place.
He seemed just as confused, if not more than anyone. That confusion quickly bubbled into fear as his eyes scanned the room as much as he could without moving his head.
It finally dawned on me and I spared a quick glance at El, who was laser-focused on Troy, head tilted down and the smallest hint of blood dripping from her nose. I smirked and looked back to Troy, a smug smile on my face.
I couldn't hold back the laughter as I saw his pants begin to dampen with urine. A stream of it began pooling at his leg, and it even soaked into his socks and shoes. Other students caught on quickly and one boy in particular, began laughing.
"Dude, Troy peed himself!"
The circle of kids erupted into laughter as Troy stood frozen in a puddle of his own pee. I turned to El, who wore a devilish smirk on her face as she glanced between Mike and me. She quickly wiped her nose and started walking away. The boys and I enjoyed this brief moment of bliss.
"Hey! What is going on here?" The principle shouted.
"Come on!" I whisper, gesturing for the boys who all had the same idea. Before people could start asking questions we grouped together and made our way to the AV room unnoticed.

I AM REQUESTING FOR COCOGOAT
Could I request a scenario where ganyu is super overworked and overwhelmed (when is she never) and the reader just holds her and comforts her about it?? Idm about the gender of the reader they/them is fine
THANK YOU
Behind Schedule
Pairing: Ganyu x fem!reader
Word Count: 750
Note: Tysm for requesting :) I rlly hope you like this!
Synopsis: The weight that Ganyu’s been shouldering for all these years has finally begun to take its unabated toll.
The day coursed the same as always. Wake up, get dressed, leave your lover in bed to go for work, run a number of important errands in reverence of the Liyue Qixing, come home, finish the rest of the paperwork at home, then finally indulge in some much needed sleep.
Rinse and repeat. It's a hectic schedule, that's for sure, but it works. Ganyu makes it work, because she's not the Qixing's irreplaceable emissary for nothing.
Then why is she sitting frozen in place, pen loosely held in between her rigid figures, eyes glassy as they stare at a transactional document. Why does she feel a rock in her throat, and a hostile tightness in her chest that doesn't allow her to loosen her stiff posture?
And why is she three hours behind in her schedule when it's supposedly a lighter workload today.
Why why why. She thinks. Why can't I do this? Why can't I move? Why can't I finish this so I can go home to Y/N?
But you're probably asleep by this hour, snuggling a pillow, no doubt in her absence. You're probably disappointed too, spending yet another night without seeing her or waking up to her.
All this overthinking decelerates her. Every encounter and setback this week welds into a merciless sword of fire, and digs it's flaming blade into the depths of her mind. It buries to the hilt in her thoughts, tormenting her into an overwhelmed state.
She doesn't take note of the tears that streak down her face, past her cheeks, easing in speed once it reaches her chin.
Ganyu is a silent crier, not one to burden others with the ache in her heart, shouldering it alone. Just as she's always done, and will continue to do.
Her shoulders shake miserably, on the brink, about to tip over, and then—
You barge in noisily, stumbling into the office  with the signature wanmin packaging, two glasses, and a shitstain of a grin hiding behind the tower of food you're balancing.
Ganyu's wipes her tears at record speed, a second before you place the food that obstructs your vision on the table.
With much disgrace, you stagger away to greet her. "Surprise!" You motion towards the food, smug and proud of yourself. "I got all your favourites. Since you've been so busy all day, I had a feeling you'd skip dinner."
While Ganyu's heart does flutter, the pure actions of love and care on your part reels her away from her shell, vulnerable all over.
She offers you a wobbly smile.
Your smile drops immediately, and you're rushing around the table to kneel in front of her chair. "Is something the matter my love?"
That's all it takes for the dam to break, the concrete walls of her carefully crafted veil shattering, and the weeping begins its reign.
You lean forward to wrap your arms around her shaking shoulders, and she's hiding her face in the crook of your neck. Although meek and nervous in nature, she's not reluctant to clutch your body close, grip tight and desperate.
"I-I'm so sorry," She gasps through her sobs. "I don't understand why I'm crying. This isn't—isn't supposed to happen. I'm behind schedule and I have so much work to do, so so so much work, and I—"
Shushing her, you lean back from the embrace and caress tear-eyed face in your hands, wiping away the remnants of her sadness.
Brushing one of the locks that frames her face, your voice is level when you whisper words of encouragement. "Why don't we do one thing at a time okay? You must be famished, so let's get some food into your system."
She nods, albeit reluctantly, but her hiccups are relentless.
You place a gentle, feather-like kiss on her cheek. "After you finish eating, i'm going to take you home and you're going to relax. No excuses."
Ganyu has no apparent qualms. Yet.
"Then tomorrow, I'll clear out my schedule and help you with your paperwork."
"But the Tianquan—"
"I'll have a word with Ningguang tomorrow. Don't fret too much about it dear."
The half-adeptus sniffles, then tugs on your shirt in primarily concealed desperation. Timid as always, your girlfriend.
More than happy to receive her request, you tenderly draw her in again, letting her bury herself away from the taunts of her endless responsibilities.
For the first time in hundreds of years, Ganyu allows herself to depend on someone else, taking a much needed breather.

Straw Hats With A Shipmate! Who Lost Someone Special
Tumblr media
A/N : For anyone who has lost someone dear to them, whether it was recently or long ago, it’ll be okay. There are times where we either hate ourselves, hold regret, or refuse to accept the reality, but no matter what, we have to accept the truth. These things happen and we have to deal with it. I know some of us like to bottle these feelings up instead of letting it all out. But I just want to say that it’s okay to let it out. Don’t keep the pain to yourself because it’s not going to make things better. Let it all out and bring peace to yourself some day. Everything will be okay.
Warning : mentions of death, negative, heartbreaking thoughts, etc. + MARINEFORD SPOILERS.
Note : I don’t expect you to read this, nor do I expect you to appreciate this. I don’t know my readers, so I don’t know how sensitive some of you are. I don’t normally write this kind of stuff either, hopefully this is the only time you’ll see this.
of course this will have a sweet ending.
This is also pretty long.
Summary : The crew witnesses their crew mate’s loss of a loved one, and notice that their shipmate is acting as if everything’s fine. They won’t accept that.
-
Everything was peaceful.
The crew was just sailing around the seas for a bit, enjoying their time together after two years apart from each other.
After Fishman Island, the others were just taking a breather and relaxing.
However, you knew that your home island was nearby.
You wanted to visit it, which the crew agreed, since it let them experience your island and perhaps learn about where you came from.
Unfortunately, you didn’t know how horrible things have been since you were gone.
Nor did you ever expect to see someone so dear to you, die right before your eyes.
-
When you docked at the island, instead of a warm aura and a homely greeting from the civilians, the island was in ruins.
There was hardly anybody around, and the people that were still there, were all weak and barely alive.
Nothing was right, nor was anything left. Buildings in ruin and destroyed, fields and trees of the forests were burned and there was blood shed all over the ground.
Nothing could be seen but blood. It was truly a horrific sight to be seen.
The crew mates all stare at the sight in horror and shock.
After hearing your stories of how beautiful and amazing the island was and how kind the people were, they were definitely not expecting to see the opposite it was.
“Oi, this isn’t anything like you described. You sure we’re on the right island?” Luffy mindlessly comments, the others staring at Luffy like he was an idiot, Usopp clearly stating it aloud. “Oi, Luffy! Don’t say things so bluntly!”
You, ahead of the group and had an expression of fear and horror written all over, just snap back into reality and turn to Luffy, seeing the others staring at you.
“..I was thinking the same, Luffy.” You weakly smile as a forceful chuckle escaped your lips, you rubbing the back of your neck awkwardly. “I guess things can change when time passes.”
“Maybe we are on the wrong island..”
You weren’t. You knew you weren’t. This was the place where you were born and raised.
Although it was completely destroyed, you recognized some of what was left in the rubble, even some of the old people that were barely hanging on.
Your words were heard, the others noticed how quiet it was and already understood the truth. Something happened while you were away from home, and it wasn’t good from the looks of it.
“[Name]-chan... we don’t have to-“ Sanji starts but you only smile lightly at the crew. “It’s fine. Before we go back to the ship,.. can we look around a bit? It’ll be quick.”
They knew what you meant and what you wanted to do, all of them nodding. “Of course, take as long as you need. There’s no rush.” Robin assures softly, Nami nodding in agreement. “We’re here if you need anything.”
You nod at them and continue to lead the group through the streets, them following you in silence as Luffy kept his eyes on you.
You heard some of the groans and noise of discomfort and pain from the ones who were on the brink of death, your head lowering down as you bit your lip, trying to ignore them.
As much as you wanted to run to them and help them any way you can, you somehow already knew it was useless.
Whatever happened while you were gone, it was too damaging to be fixed. The many bodies that were spread across the town made sure of that.
In the back with the crew, you hear Brook, Usopp and Chopper freaking out every once in a while at the sight of the bodies, Sanji and Nami mentioning about feeling a bit sick and just shocked at the sight of them, while Franky, Luffy, Robin and Zoro all stare silently, many thoughts running through their head.
There was one thought they all had in common.
Just what the hell happened?
You continue to walk with your head down, before noticing an all too familiar house and look up, beginning to jog over towards it, a hopeful look in your eyes.
“W-Wait, [Name]!” Usopp calls at the others try to catch up. You ignore him and sprint towards what was left of the home and slam the door open accidentally.
“[ Special Someone ]!” You call out a bit too loudly, looking out frantically for them. “[ Special Someone ]! It’s [Name]!”
A small hum could be heard in another room, you rushing over just as the others arrived at the home.
You ran over and widen your eyes at the sight of them. [ Special Someone ] was leaning against the wall, breathing slow with many cuts and dried blood all over them.
Their clothes stained with the red liquid and the entire house was a wreck, with smashed furniture and shattered glass all over.
“[ Special Someone ]!” You shout in disbelief and horror, unable to process anything as you lunge yourself to the one person who was always by your side.
“[Name]..?..” they breathed out, weakly forcing themselves to sit upright more, you aiding them carefully, as their arms rested in their lap.
“Wow.. I can’t believe it.. how.. lucky.. I get to see you?..” [ Special Someone ] coughs out roughly, spitting a bit of blood out onto their hand as they did so making you even more shocked.
The crew enters the room with eyes wide as saucers. “[Name]?” Nami questions, mouth gaped at the sight of you kneeling beside a person on the brink of death.
Tears brimmed your eyes as you turn to Chopper pleadingly. “Chopper, please, help them!” You cry out with a shout, Chopper’s teary shocked eyes widening more as he nods quickly and rushed over with his bag.
Chopper sits on the other side of [ Special Someone ], opening his bag and grabbing out the proper supplies.
“[Na..me].. stop, I’m fine. There’s nothing.. you can do.” They insisted, turning to Chopper with a weak smile. “A rein..deer?.. how cute..” Chopper didn’t say anything as he continued to do his work, quickly examining the injuries they had before patching them up.
“Shut up, [ Special Someone ], Chopper’s going to help you, okay?! Now, tell me who did this to you?” You say, clasping their hand in yours as they cough once more and tilt their head back.
The others could only watch in silence with sad, concerned or pitiful looks at the sight, assuming that this person was someone so dear to you. They didn’t know who it was but they knew enough.
“... Marines..”
Everyone tensed at the word, a few of them in disbelief. Marines did this?
You didn’t say anything, your grip on their hand tightening as you chew on your inner cheek. “Marines, huh?...”
“If you don’t mind me asking, how long ago did this happen?” Robin cautiously and slowly asks, [ Special Someone ] looking up at her.
They look away and flinch at bit at Chopper’s work as they whisper out an answer. “.. one week.”
No one expected that. Everyone’s eyes widened even more. One week!?
“S-seriously?! This happened one week ago?!” Brook shouts incredulously, Usopp trembling in his shoes. “T-This happened while we were on our way here?!”
Your breath hitched in your throat, your body frozen and completely lost in thought. This..happened.. in a week?..
You.. You could have done something.. if you just got here faster? You could have prevented all of this, if you just arrived sooner?
No, you couldn’t blame yourself. How could you have known? You weren’t at fault, right? Right?
“[Name]. It’s okay..” [ Special Someone ] turns to you with the all too familiar smile of theirs, it was a weak one, but it was still the same.
“Fate has it twisted sometimes, but it’s never wrong. If fate had this in its destined path for me, then I have to accept it. If I must die, I’m happy to have died being able to see you one last time.” They managed to speak out in one breath, forcing their smile wider.
[ Special Someone ] notices Chopper moving away from him slowly with saddened and regretful eyes. They knew the result and reason for it already.
You chose to ignore their words and scoff, feeling tears brimming your eyes. “Stop talking like that, it’s not time for you yet. It’s not too late. Right Chopper?!” You look up with teary eyes at the small reindeer.
“You can save them, right!? It’s not too late!”
Chopper would look down, pulling his hat down to cover his face as his lips trembled and quivered a bit. “[Name], I—“
“Chopper! You’re supposed to be the best doctor I know, so please, tell me it’s not too late!” You cried out, turning to look at the others.
The others already knew the answer too just from the look of Chopper and how weak [ Special Someone ] was quickly getting.
“Franky? Usopp? Zoro?” You call out to them, receiving no answer and just sad looks of pity and sorrow.
“Luffy!” You call out to your captain desperately, seeing his head tilted down with his hat shadowing his face.
“Everyone.. WHY AREN’T YOU ANSWERING ME?!” Confusion ran over you, too worried and afraid to face the truth and have any sense.
Nami stares at you with her own tears threatening to fall, already knowing what was going to happen.
Chopper grips his hat tightly as he stares down, tears streaming down his cheeks and dripping to the floor.
Sanji couldn’t stare at you, his eyes closing shut as he wished he could help you somehow.
Franky looks at you with a frown placed on his lips, staying silent because he thought it was best to remain so.
If Brook had eyes, he’d stare with sorrow and tears as well, also remaining quiet.
Zoro just shut his eyes, almost unable to watch you looking at them so desperately and pleadingly.
Robin looks a bit pitifully, sad eyes washing over her and over at you and your teary form.
Usopp felt tears threatening to stream down his cheeks as well, feeling regret and sadness for you, hands clenched tightly into fists.
Finally, Luffy still held no reaction, arms at his side, head still lowered. But he was trying hard not to get angry or tear up himself, this reminding him of Ace’s death a bit.
“[Name].. it’s too late.. I’ve already lost a lot of blood and my wounds are.. too hurt to be healed.. the damage is done..” [ Special Someone ] breathes out, a small smile forming on their lips.
“[ Special Someone ]... what are you saying?.. I..”
“[Name]..”
“Stop..” you look down, your hair covering your eyes as your lip quivered.
“I’m thankful you found people to keep you company..” they turn to the crew with a soft smile.
“Stop it..” you whispered, teardrops slowly falling.
“Thank you for taking care of [Name].”
The crew only smiled sadly at [ Special Someone ].
“STOP TALKING, ITS NOT TOO LATE FOR YOU!” You cry out loudly, tears finally falling down your cheeks as you shouted. “[ SPECIAL SOMEONE ]!”
[ Special Someone ] only leans their head back and their breathing only shallows as they slowly lean down into your arms.
A small smile formed on their lips as they whisper out through your cries.
“I’m sorry... and thank you... [Name].”
“[ SPECIAL SOMEONE ]!”
Your scream and sobs filled the entire island as you clutched their body close to yours, eyes shut and cheeks soaked with tears as the tears drops fell onto their slowly dying body.
The crew watched silently, feeling their heart ache and sting at the sight of you sobbing and desperately clinging into whatever was left of your precious childhood memory.
-
Later that same night, after you were left alone to make a proper burial for [ Special Someone ], you returned to the crew, who sat waiting in the small home in silence.
“Everyone..”
Your voice would bring their attention to you and see the weak smile settled across your lips. “I’m sorry for wasting your time!... we can set sail now.”
They would be shocked to say the least. How could you ever think you were wasting their time? Much less, after such a traumatic and shocking event just hours prior.
“[Name], what do you mean? You weren’t wasting-“ You interrupt Usopp with a small forced chuckle.
“It’s okay, it was my fault. I should’ve known there wasn’t a point to come to this island, it’s kind of pointless considering how rundown and ruined it is now.”
“Wait, what’s going on, don’t you feel upset at all?” Nami asks with furrowed brows as she stands up to look at you.
You stare at her with a bit of wide eyes before closing them slowly and put on a big and bright smile.
Your words shocked them and made them speechless. They didn’t know what to say.
“Of course not! About what? There’s nothing to be upset about at all!”
Not even Luffy was sure what to say to that.
So it led them to heading to the ship to set sail the next early morning.
-
One day.
One day since the crew witness you experiencing and watching the death of a loved one right before your eyes.
Yet, here you were, all smiling and laughing in front of them, as if nothing happened at all. You were making jokes and trying to make the others laugh as well.
But they weren’t.
Sure, they gave sad smiles to you, a few of them offering weak or forced laughs in addition, but they couldn’t understand why you were acting like this.
Were you afraid to seem weak in front of them?
They weren’t sure but they knew something was up. But seeing you be so joyful as if nothing happened was too heartbreaking for them to say anything.
-
Three days.
Three days have gone by since the day you had witness the death of a loved one.
The crew was getting worried for you. They assumed maybe you were trying to be positive and remain happy in front of the crew, or maybe you really were over the death you witnessed first-hand but that was proven wrong just this morning.
The early morning, Sanji was getting ready to prepare breakfast when he heard noises in the aquarium lounge.
Confused, Sanji takes a peek in the room to see your shaking form, your back facing the doorway as you were curled up, hugging your knees.
He could hear your quiet cries as you hid your face into your knees, thinking you were alone to finally let it out.
Sanji could feel his heart break seeing you all alone, but as much as he wanted to comfort you, he knew it was better to leave you alone. Especially since you were acting like nothing was wrong just yesterday.
But he told the crew.
“I didn’t go up to them, out of respect for their privacy.” Sanji exhales, puff of smoke exiting his lips.
The others listened in silence to Sanji’s explanation of what he saw this morning.
Silence was brought upon the crew.
“..So they’ve been holding it in all this time.” Nami mumbles quietly, eyes saddening at the thought of how much you kept to yourself to keep up such a happy facade.
Thinking about how much you were struggling inside broke her heart.
“I can’t imagine how hard they’re struggling right now.” Brook spoke softly, looking down at the table.
Chopper had tears in his eyes at the thought. “[Name] is going through a lot and—! And we’re not there for them!” He cried out.
“What should we do now that we know what’s really going on these past few days?” Robin questions aloud, the question going through all their heads.
Zoro turns his head over to Luffy, who had been the most quiet ever since they ship left your island.
He was observant so he was watching your fake smiles closely and knew too well that you weren’t over it.
You were hiding yourself, and your feelings from the crew.
But hearing Sanji’s explanation of what he saw, seeing you all alone and crying to yourself made him fill with rage yet, also regret for not being there for his shipmate.
“DAMN IT!”
Luffy’s fist made contact with the wooden table roughly, almost breaking it into two as Luffy growls loudly. “HOW COULD THEY JUST KEEP IT ALL TO THEIR SELF?! WE’RE THEIR FRIENDS RIGHT?! WHY DON’T THEY JUST TELL IS SO WE CAN BE THERE FOR THEM?!”
“Luffy!” The others widen their eyes at Luffy’s outburst but they couldn’t exactly disagree with him.
Why didn’t you just tell them the truth of your feelings instead of putting on such a fake act? Didn’t you trust them at all?
“Luffy, you have to understand. It could be hard for [Name] to share this with us! They’re still grieving, so give it time. Okay?” Nami tries to calm down their Captain but it was no use. He wasn’t listening.
“I don’t care!” Luffy shouts, frustration building up. “We’re supposed to be friends, damn it, so why can’t they just tell us how they feel instead of being so positive all the time? It won’t change what happened, but coming to us so we can be there for them can help! That’s what we’re here for!”
“Just calm down! When [Name] is ready, I’m sure they’ll come talk to us. So settle down already and be patient!” Zoro shouts back, having enough of this.
He too was concerned and also frustrated with you for not talking with them but it wasn’t their choice.
It was yours, and they couldn’t do anything but be there when you were ready.
-
Five days.
[ Special Someone ], the person who always brought you joy.. comfort.. laughter.. and made sure you were the best you that you could be.
They stuck with you through all your ups and downs, all your pains and sorrows, all your anger, complaints and hatred..
Even with all your flaws, [ Special Someone ] never left your side once, always sacrificing themselves for your well-being.
Always making sure you were healthy, eating well, sleeping well, had fresh food and clothes everyday, and ensured that you could live with peace and not a worry in the world.
So why?
Why was someone so selfless, generous, caring, kind... why was someone like that not given the privilege to stay alive? How could someone like them die? After everything they did for you, why was it them and no one else?
Why? Why.. why did they have to die?
You turn onto your side on the bed, hands clenching the bedsheet as you thought about the same thing every day and night, the scene of them dying right in your arms replaying over and over for you every time you shut your eyes.
“Why?..”
Hugging your pillow tightly, you glance at the time on the wall and sigh, deciding to get up to greet the crew.
You sit up and get up from your bed, dusting your clothes and began getting ready, making sure you looked decent enough to show yourself to the others, before finally stepping out of the room.
When you finally step out, you see the whole crew on the main deck, doing whatever it is they do.
They immediately all turn to you when they heard footsteps. You look at them and blink softly before smiling brightly and waved. “M-Morning, you guys!”
‘Shit- please don’t have noticed that..’ you thought, hoping they didn’t notice your voice having cracked a bit.
It was quiet as they continued to stare at you, before Brook interrupts it.
“Yohohoho~... it’s the afternoon, [Name]-san..”
Your eyes widen a bit at your mistake. Did you really stay in bed for that long?
“Oh.. is it? I must’ve overslept..” you lightly laugh to ease the growing tension you felt but no one said anything in response.
“..[Name]-san.. have you been crying?” Robin questions softly, a small frown present on her face. Her question startles you as you shake your head immediately.
“What do you mean, Robin? I’m fine, I haven’t been crying at all.” Instinctively, you began wiping your eyes with your sleeves, which already sent answers to the crew.
“Seriously, what’s with you guys today? You’ve all been acting strange for a while.” You smile softly and pull at your sleeps.
“Maybe you guys just need a little adventure. Maybe-“
“Shut the hell up.”
Shocked, you turn to Zoro at his sudden blunt burst from the railing.
“Zoro!” Nami and Usopp hisses beside him, quietly scolding him for being so rude at the moment, making Zoro scoff.
“I’m rude? They just accused us for acting strange the past couple of days. I don’t disagree with them about us being a bit different lately, but they’re the one who’s been acting the strangest out of all of us. And you all know this too. Am I wrong?”
While you visibly flinch at his words, Nami and Usopp faltered a bit and looked away. “Still..”
“Zoro’s right.” Luffy, who had been quiet ever since two days ago when Sanji told them about your moment in the Aquarium Bar.
“Luffy?” Chopper questions softly from a distance, looking at their captain.
Luffy looks up and glares hard at you.
Behind his hard glare was a very faint soft expression with hurt eyes. Hurt, knowing that his shipmate was suffering and he couldn’t do anything to help them. Until now.
“Tell us the truth, [Name].” Luffy’s tone made your breath hitch from how serious he sounded. It wasn’t like a friend, it was like a captain. “Do you hate us?”
Your eyes widen at his question and you looked at him incredulously. “What? Of course not.” You immediately answered, brows furrowed.
That answer was obvious, so why did he ask?
“Okay. Are you happy with the crew?” He asks again, and you just stare at him in confusion. “I’m happy. I’ve always been.”
“...are you keeping secrets from us?”
All eyes were on you as you close your mouth and bit your tongue from saying more.
You stare at Luffy and tried to decipher what was going through his mind before closing your eyes.
“Not at all.”
“I thought our captain told you to tell the truth.” Zoro says instantly after your reply and you bit your lip slightly. “I did.”
“[Name]-chan..” Sanji sighs softly at your denial and stubbornness before Usopp frowns and spoke. “[Name]... I can tell when you’re lying and..”
“You guys, I’m fine, okay! Nothing is wrong, I’m not keeping secrets from you, so let’s just stop this and continue our day, okay?” You exasperatedly sigh, rubbing your head a bit as Franky shakes his head.
“[Name], I’m afraid we can’t.” He says, making you turn to him with a sigh. “Why? Why can’t you guys just-“
“We saw you crying alone, [Name]..” Chopper quietly mumbles, looking up sadly at you. “Why didn’t you come to us?..”
“I-“
“[Name].”
Luffy looks at you, his expression slowly softening as he stares at you deeply. “... you don’t have to be alone anymore. Actually.. you were never alone to begin with.”
You didn’t say anything and just looked away, hands clenched tightly and you bit your lip.
“I know what you’ve been going through. I felt the same two years ago in Marineford, okay? I..I felt so helpless and angry when Ace died.. I thought I was completely alone after losing him and I couldn’t live with myself.. because Ace died.. for me..”
You gulp at Luffy’s story with Ace, knowing fully well how heartbreaking it was for Luffy to be reminded of these memories, his last memory of Ace.
Hesitantly, you look up at Luffy to see pain and small tears brimming his eyes.
“It hurts a lot, [Name].. I know, alright? You feel all alone, and let regret, resentment, pain, sadness, everything, build up inside you, and you either hold it all in and put on a happy smile, or you could just let it all out and scream out the pain.” He continues, his jaw and hands clenching tightly as his tears fell down his cheeks.
The others stayed silent, all of them reminded of their own past and memories of when they lost a loved one, or when they felt completely alone with pain and regret.
Zoro, with Kuina.
Nami, with Bellemere.
Usopp, with Kaya.
Sanji, with Zeff.
Chopper, with Hiriluk.
Robin, with Jaguar.
Franky, with Tom.
Brook, with his whole crew.
Luffy, with his brothers.
You thought back to just a couple days ago with your own loved one dying in your arms and look down sorrowfully.
“I still think about it everyday, but I don’t feel as much pain or regret anymore. I’m almost thankful I survived.. why? Because it means I won’t leave you guys alone. I’m right here with you all, because you guys are my friends, my family!”
You feel tears brimming your own eyes, a few drops already falling down your cheeks.
“I’m not alone because I have you all by my side so I’m never alone! You all help me realize this and I eventually got over Ace’s death.. and even though I think about it everyday, I’m not alone anymore and I don’t cry about it too much. Because I have you and everyone else!”
You wipe at your eyes and sniff a bit, the others smiling softly at their captain, their hearts touched by his words as a few of them could feel themselves tear up.
“You’ve been crying by yourself, all alone these past few days, haven’t you?”
You didn’t answer. You knew the crew knew the answer already.
Luffy began make his way over to you, continuing to speak.
“It’s okay to be sad, to be hurt, to feel pain, and to cry. You could be angry, you can scream, you can sob, you can do anything you want.”
Luffy was now right in front of you, looking at you with a piercing expression.
“But you don’t have to be alone during these sad times. You never have to be alone again, because we’re right here.”
Luffy then tightened his fists and shouts right at you. “SO STOP KEEPING IT ALL TO YOURSELF AND SHARE YOUR PAIN WITH US! YOU WILL NEVER BE ALONE BECAUSE WE’RE YOUR FAMILY AND WE CARE ABOUT YOU. SHARE YOUR PAIN WITH ME!”
He extends and spreads his arms out, glaring hard at you with tears in his eyes as your own widen at his shouts.
The others smiled wider when they see your tears streaming faster down your cheek and your expression soften as your body lunged itself into Luffy’s arms.
Your arms wrap around his neck and legs around his waist as Luffy immediately wraps his own around you tightly, your face buried into his neck.
Sobs screamed out from your voice, your throat burning but you didn’t care. You sobbed right into Luffy’s neck, his hearing might’ve been damaged but he didn’t care either.
“It hurts.. it hurts so much, Luffy.. why?” You sob out, clutching onto him tightly as you gripped his shirt. “Why did they have to die?! Why..”
Luffy didn’t say anything, just held you closer and just as tight.
The others felt themselves tear up more at your sobs and unable to help themselves, they also ran to join in the hug.
Sanji, Nami, Usopp, Chopper and Brook all jumped into the hug, all sobbing their own cries and tears, which made you and Luffy drop onto the ground with the others on top.
“[NAME]-CHAN!”
“[NAAAMEEE]!”
“[NAME]-SANNN!”
Franky wipes his own stream of tears as Robin and Zoro smiles at the sight of their crewmates.
Despite your sobs, you couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at the others and sniffled, smiling genuinely at your family.
You should have known better than to keep it all in and to yourself. You weren’t alone.
You had family who loves you and were there right by your side, through all your joy and pain.
“Thank you, everyone. I’m so grateful..”
You smile wider and shouted loudly with closed eyes.
“Thank you, for loving me!”

The Test
Overhaul x F!Reader
Warnings: Angst, death, mega angst, pregnancy, premature birth, this hurt to write but thats okay
Gotta get the sad vibes out of thy body. Lets all be sad together
~~~
‘Okay, It’ll be okay. Just tell him! He’s your husband for christ sakes!’ You thought as you paced back and forth inside your room. You were afraid. You loved your husband you really did but sometimes he even made you afraid.
Kai barely showed his emotions and when he did it was a miracle. Hell you barely just started getting intimate. You’ve only had intercourse 2 times you’ve guys been together. You’ve guys been together for 4 years. You understood his dislike of germs, and you never wanted to make him uncomfortable. So you just kept your wishes for intimacy to yourself.
His kisses or hugs were almost just as rare as sex. You would tell him you loved him and he’d grunt back at you. You knew it was his language of saying i love you back but sometimes you just wished he’d say it back. You were only human after all. You wished for attention and some sort of love contact.
The last time you guys had sex he wore a condom. You didn’t mind really, it’s not like you were trying for a baby. But out of all the times that the condoms could have failed you,
This was the day of absolute fuckery.
You glared at the positive pregnancy test, hoping it would just disappear. But unfortunately problems like this don’t just disappear. So which leads to where you are now, a woman who is absolutely fucked if she can’t figure out a way to tell her husband she’s pregnant.
“Come on (y/n), you’ve got this. It can’t be that bad right?” You say trying to convince yourself. Kai was very difficult when he wanted to be. So what if he thinks you cheated on him?! You’d be killed on the spot! You wouldn’t be able to even explain, he probably won’t even let you. He had a habit of taking over you.
You sat on the bed as you rubbed your eyes. Trying to hide the tears that threatened to spill. You cried into your hands. This shouldn’t be so hard. He’s your husband. Then why were you so afraid? Was there a possibility that you could tell him without speaking? But how would you-
-the internet
You jumped from your spot on the bed and grabbed your personal computer and began looking at mom websites. Cool pregnancy ideas to tell your husband. You clicked on the link and saw the best ideas there. Get a mug and put the words you're pregnant at the inside of the bottom of the cup. Nah. Gift him baby clothes and let him put the puzzle pieces together. No thats stupid. Get a teddy bear and sew him holding a present, put the test in there and give it to him. Ah fuck it why not?
So from that search alone you RAN out the door and near the closest place where they had teddy bears and presents. You ran as fast as your legs could endure. Whipping your head from aisle to aisle. Looking for the fuzzy stuffy.
You go to the baby aisle and see the best teddy for the job. You quickly grab it as you go to the next aisle for the present. You had picked out a small box that would just fit the test. You smile as you jump up and down in joy. You didn’t know when you became so giddy. Not even an hour ago you were stressed to the point of wanting to hit your head against the door. You take a deep breath in before turning on your heels to pay.
~~~
1 Day Later
You looked at the teddy bear in your hands while sweating. What happened to confident (y/n) yesterday? Oh yeah she left when she had a fight with her husband, a bad one at that too. It was really bad. But you couldn’t stop now. You had to tell him. Better sooner than later. You take a deep breath as you hugged the teddy closer as you let out a sigh. Looking at Kai’s office door you let your hand let out a fragile knock.
“Come in.” You slowly push the door open, looking in, you see Kai with two of his henchmen. Chronostasis and Nemoto. You didn’t talk to them much but you guys had pretty civil conversations.
“Kai I need to talk to you, without them here please?” You say as you try to stand your ground. You don’t really want your husband's friends to know what’s going on in your guys personal affairs.
“Fine. Chrono, Nemoto, leave.”
“Yes boss.” They leave the room just leaving you and your stonic husband.
“What do you even want?” He says in a voice that makes you question doing this but you go up to him and hand him the teddy bear. Your face beet red as you try to figure out his emotion. Especially when he opened the present.
“Is this a positive pregnancy test?” He says in an emotionless manner, but you couldn’t help but hear the bit of anger in his voice as well.
“Yes, I don’t know what you want to do or-”
“You cheated on me?” Wait what the fuck?
“What! How could you say that!” You say in offense.
“I wear protection, woman! There's no way I could have gotten you pregnant!”
“Condoms aren’t even 100% effective! It could have busted or had a whole in it!” You yell back. You were offended. You were his wife, how dare he accuse you of such an act! Considering he was so interested in medical things you would think that he would know that condoms aren’t 1005 effective!
“You slut! I give you everything and you go out and cheat on me!”
“I didn’t fucking cheat asshole! God after years of being with you, your immediate reaction was I’m cheating?! Why am I with you if you don’t even trust me!”
“Leave this house! We’re over!”
“Are you fucking serious?! You won’t even consider it!” You scream at him.
“Leave or else!” His ember eyes looking at you with the intent to kill. You knew that if you wanted to live you had to leave. Tears rush down your eyes as you turn around quickly before swinging open the door. You turn around to him one last time before screaming at the top of your lungs
“I can’t believe I married a cold hearted monster like you! I hope you die alone!” And with those words, you left. Never stepping foot inside that base as long as you lived.
~~~
5 Months Later
“This sucks actually ass.” You growl as you walk around your apartment. It wasn’t the best but it would do for the time being. You got it cause your friend was friends with the owner. All you had to do was take care of the garden they had outside. They wanted to make it eye catching so more people would move in.
Understandable.
You held your stomach as the urge to pee came over you. Due to the fact a literal baby is growing inside you, it's pushing against your bladder. Kinda rude. You're carrying this baby and it's just gonna do you like this? That’s some bullshit man.
You groan as you continue to sweep your hardwood floor in your small living area. It was much better than living with Kai I guess. You never wanted to see his stupid gorgeous face again.
You look up at the area around you, admiring your work on cleaning the entire apartment. You smirk to yourself before feeling a kick in your stomach. You hold your stomach as you take a breather. Looking back up you notice a familiar golden shine coming from a little dish you kept by the door where you put coins in.
Walking towards it you notice that its your old wedding ring from you old marriage. You guys never really got divorced so it was still official by law. Annoying yes but you didn’t want to even be in a room with that bastard.
Grabbing the ring you look at it and think how much it would be worth. A final fuck you to the mind that shattered you heart.
Grabbing it and putting on a coat you start walking out the door and head out the door. Going to a pawn shop around the corner. You would be able to get a little extra cash for the baby.
~~~
“Yes sir I would like to sell this ring.” You place the ring on the counter and slide it over to the employee. His eyes widen as he motions you to come closer.
“This is a yakuza style ring. A Shie Hasssakai kind of ring. Where did you get this?” The man said. He sounded like he was worried.
“Oh my shit husband gave me this when he proposed to me. Then kicked me out saying I cheated when I told him I was pregnant. Like sorry that a condom is not 100% effective.” You say soundly. The man looks at you with wide eyes. You didn’t really care at the moment because the feeling of lightheadedness was weighing you down.
“Ma’am are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Before you could say anything you felt a wet feeling coming from in between your legs. Looking down you see that your water broke.
“MA’AM SHOULD WE CALL 119?!” You shook your head up and down before falling down on the ground, the world seems to be growing black around you.
~~~
Ring ring ring
“Hello?”
“Yes Overhaul sir? This is the guys from the pawn store downtown, we have a ring that seemingly belongs to your ex wife.”
“And you're calling me why?”
“Uh...because she was just carried away in an ambulance. She didn’t look very well, boss. My girlfriend had her kid recently and she wasn’t near as sickly looking as she was.” Overhaul couldn’t help but have his chest tighten up a bit. His heart was beating faster and he could feel it.
“Do you want to know the hospital she’s at Overhaul?”
“Not right now.” Before Kai could even think about what he was doing he hung up the phone and moved his wrist back to the papers. You cheated on him, you’ll be fine. He rolled his eyes but that didn’t mean he didn’t feel the sinking feeling in his stomach.
Like if he had just made a mistake he would live to regret.
~~~
Kai ran as fast as he could towards the hospital where you stayed. They had sent him a call asking him to come down so he could see his kid. When he said that it wasn’t his, they told him that the DNA matched up perfectly with his.
Kai felt a painful sting in his chest as he got closer and closer to the hospital. He was thinking on all the ways to apologize to you. And if his pride would allow him to apologize.
His head rang with the words of what the doctor told him,
***
“Is this Kai Chisaki?”
“Yes it is, why?”
“Well we have you as an emergency contact for miss (y/n) (l/n).”
“Take me off.”
“Excuse me sir?”
“I said take me off.”
“Well I can’t take you off when we called you to tell you that your wife is in critical condition.”
“What?!” Kai tried to not show much worry but he couldn’t help it. No matter how much he told himself that he didn’t love you, thoughts of your smile rushed back into his head. Your laugh. Your everything calmed him down. You were his angel.
“Unfortunately her water broke early, leaving her to have an early birth and her body was not able to handle it. Your daughter, who we did a dna test on is in the ICU (intensive care unit). Her being born 2 months early is having complications breathing.” Kai couldn’t say a world before he rushed out of the door and into your hospital,
***
He burst through the hospital doors and walked up to the nurse as he panted from running. A look of desperation in his golden eyes.
“Where is my wife and daughter? Mrs. Chisaki?” He said in a moment of panic. He hated the look that the nurse gave him as she told him where to find your room. Before he could run into your room a doctor stopped him by grabbing his shoulder.
“I’m sorry to inform you sir but, the complications your daughter had to breath were to severe. We couldn’t save her. I’m deeply sorry.” Kai looked at the doctor. Not wanting to believe a word he had just said. He felt his hands tremble as he grabbed the doctors shoulders. Tears streaming down his face,
“What about (y/n)? Is she okay at least?!” Desperation in his voice. He can’t lose you. He already lost his daughter that he refused to believe was his, now to late to say hello or I love you. He had to see you. Just to hear you sweet voice at least one more time-
“I’m sorry Chisaki. She was pronounced dead 5 minutes before you came in.” No, no. He refused to believe it. He ran to your room, praying you were still here. You needed to be here. He needed to say he was sorry. That he loved you.
once he burst through your room door his worse fears were confirmed, and what the doctor was true. You no longer a heartbeat monitor. Your chest never moved to show some sort of breathing pattern. Kai ran to you holding your face in his hands. He put your forehead to his as his tears landed on your lashes.
“Please...wake up. I’m begging you. I already lost our daughter, I can’t afford to lose you to. Please my angel. Come back.....” Kai grabbed your limp body and pulled you close to his chest, shaking as he started sobbing uncontrollably. His whole world seemed to stop as he felt his only sort of light in his life be blown out. He cried into your neck as he collapsed onto his knees.
“Please, I don’t wanna be alone.”

UwU Your writing is amazing !!!!! I loved the puppy and cat escapades \ ^o^ / . Would you be willing to do one in wich the mc is bullied by the extras, because you know, no magic and already a director, how would the boys react?? Will this be the end of the extras?!?? Ill be eternally gratefull. iTs okay if you cant throug. Hope you have a wonderfull day, and dont forget to drink plenty of water, and take breakes. Take care of yourself!!!!
Originally, I had planned this to be another chaos fic, but, I realize while writing this, that bullying is something that cannot be taken lightly. In the Twst Fandom, we also had our fair share of bullying from a few anons and that isn’t okay.
So, in writing this fic, I made it more sentimental and just so you guys know, if you’re having a bad day or a bad time in general, feel free to talk to anyone, including me! Do not ever hold in your sadness.
But anyway, I hope this fic lives up to your expectations anon! Thank you for requesting and have a lovely day!
What if you got bullied? (Ft. Everyone!!)
What was supposed to be a great day, turned out to be the worst day you could ever have at Night Raven College.
Your day started off normally, in fact, it started off well! You woke up with a good mood. You saw the furball that you loved so much beside you, sleeping peacefully. You smiled as you gently shook him awake.
“Grim, wake up, it’s already morning.”
“Fgnaaaaa, five… more minutes…” The sleeping creature said, swatting your hand away. You just shook your head at his antics.
“No can do, remember what Crowley would do if he caught us being late again.” You said and the creature’s eyes immediately shot opened and he jumped out of the bed, scurrying about to get ready for the day. You saw his slightly panicking self and giggled to yourself.
“(Y/N)! We shouldn’t be dancing and prancing! If we do, we’re going to be late!” Said the creature as he saw you heading over to your closet in a small waltz.
“Oh, Grim, I woke you up 10 minutes earlier than usual.” You said as you grabbed your uniform and headed to the bathroom. “You have 10 minutes to spare, take your time.” And you left the mumbling little furball in the room, face planting himself back into the bed after hearing your words.
The first half of your day had gone by rather quick and uneventful, not that you were complaining though. It’s nice to not have fights and chaos to settle every once in a while. You had a lot of laughs and smiles here and there with your group of first-year goofballs.
However, your peaceful day was about to turn upside down.
You were walking back to your classroom. Your friends were reserving your spot in Professor Trein’s class while you went to Crowley’s office to take care of some business involving Ramshackle Dorm. You and Grim made your way down the hall to the class.
Some students saw this and thought it was a great opportunity to make you trip and fall. So, one of them stuck out his leg while you were making you were walking. You didn’t have enough time to react and ended up falling for their antics. You immediately turned your body around so Grim, who was in your hands, would be shielded using your body. Your back hit the ground, HARD. A few gasps here and there were heard.
Grim rose his head from your chest to see you using your elbow to prompt yourself up.
“Fgnaaa! (Y/N)!” The furball immediately went to help you up by providing some support.
“Oh, sorry, didn’t see you there.” The student who tripped you said as his friends were laughing.
“School rules say that no magic or fights are allowed on school grounds.” His friends snickered.
“I’m fine… Just… Let me get up.” You said to Grim, who was still helping you.
“Pffft, look at her, so defenseless, she shouldn’t even be at this school!” The student said harshly.
“Hello?! Night Raven College is a place for prestigious mages. Not humans who can’t use magic and defend themselves.” Another student said to you.
“And to think she’s a prefect! Hahahahaha! You couldn’t even compare to the other dorm leaders!” His friend added and they all agreed.
“Looks like Crowley had made a huge mistake in bringing you here, why don’t you just crawl back to that sad excuse for a dorm of yours alongside your lousy furball!” And the group of students cackled at their snarky comments about you.
You just drooped your head down. Even though you didn’t want to admit it, but, they were right.
You had no magic, you were ridiculed at the entrance ceremony but, Crowley still gave you a place to stay and he even made you an official student here. While others struggled in getting here, you sort of knew why they hated you.
You tried your best to hold in your tears as you felt them pricking at the corner of your eyes while your friends defended you.
But, one comment had pushed past your boundaries.
“You’re not even considered to be human in my eyes! To me, you’re just trash. Go find a trash can and make yourself at home!”
Was… Was this what the other students really thought about you? Trash? Useless? No value? You closed your eyes, taking everything in, ignoring everything and everyone else around you. And proceeded to walk away without saying a single word.
Grim shouted for you but you payed no attention to him and just kept speed walking. Your walking slowly became running and you were then running as fast as you could, just letting your legs lead the way. After awhile of running at full speed, you had slowed down and stopped to take a breather. You looked around to see where you were in order for you to get back to school if needed.
However, you were back at Ramshackle Dorm. Your dorm. The tears you had been holding back flowed out as you took slow steps to the dorm you loved. You went in and closed the door behind you. Leaning your back against the door, you cried out your heart as you slowly slid down.
All the student’s words are stuck in your head, reminding you of what everyone else thinks of you. Your tears just kept flowing as you used your sleeves to wipe them away.
‘They’re right, I’m not meant to be here in the first place.’ You thought to yourself. ‘If everyone hates me so, then, I should just disappear.’ You said in your mind as you stood up and went to your room.
You packed some clothing and madol, ready to leave and hopefully start a new life outside of Night Raven College. You stuffed everything into a duffel bag and went to the main entrance of your dorm. You placed your hand on the doorknob, thinking of a route to leave the school undetected. But when you opened the door…
You were faced with everyone you ever knew.
And I mean everyone! Your group of best friends, the dorm-leaders and your seniors. They were all gathered in front of your dorm.
“Ahh! (Y/N)!! I’m so glad we found you!” Ace said as he, Deuce, Epel, Jack, Sebek and Grim came to hug you. You were surprised, too shocked to even register what had happened.
“We heard about the incident today, we already reported it to the headmaster.” Riddle said.
“But the first-years also reported that you were nowhere to be found. So, we came looking for you and your dorm was the only place we haven’t checked.” Azul continued.
“So, we all gathered here after our search!” Kalim concluded. The first-year boys pulled away from their hug and they noticed your bag.
“(Y/N)? What’s going on? Why are you leaving?” Epel asked you. Your eyes slowly travelled to the bag.
“Um…” You started but Deuce cut you off.
“Is it because of those damned students?” Deuce asked you. “Did they threaten you?”
Now, everyone’s eyes were on you. You averted their stares by lowering your head.
“No…” You said, dropping the duffel bag.
“They didn’t threaten me. But, what they said was true, was it not?” You lifted your head to let everyone see your tear-filled eyes. “I am just a human, I don’t possess any magic powers and yet here I am in this school for magicians. Not only that, but I am also the dorm leader for this dorm and I have been made a prefect! Isn’t that unfair to everyone else?” You said out loud, letting everyone hear you.
“I understand why they would have these kinds of thoughts. I understand why they hate me. That’s why I thought that if I have left, no one would have these kinds of thoughts ever again. After, I am the problem, aren’t I?” You concluded.
Truth be told, the boys were shocked. They… They have never seen this side of you. Heck, they never thought you would be capable of producing these types of thoughts. In their eyes, you were always so cheerful and kind, even when things got out of hand, you would remain calm and solve the problem to the best of your abilities. To think someone this pure and precious to them would have such depressing and degrading thoughts is beyond them.
However, this shocked Grim the most. The creature practically lived with you for so long and he didn’t even have a single clue of this side of you was scaring him.
“No, you’re wrong.” Grim lowly mumbled, but you couldn’t hear him.
“What?” You asked the furball.
“YOU’RE WRONG!” He practically screamed at you.
“Grim-chan…” Cater said softly.
“Even if you did leave, their thoughts won’t change! You’re not the problem! It’s them!” The furball yelled to you. Everyone was taken aback by Grim’s sudden outburst. But the first-years were quick to back him up.
“That’s right! It’s not your fault (Y/N)!” Ace said to you.
“Students at NRC are picked by the mirror of darkness. No one can easily come and go in this school.” Leona reminded everyone.
“Exactly, you arrived here for a reason.” Rook said.
“You assisted us with our overblots, not every child of man could do that.” Malleus said, representing every dorm leader.
“You had us working together in sync during the Inter-High Magift Tournament.” Ruggie added.
“You brought us together as friends.” Sebek stated.
“Most importantly, you let me have a place here at NRC. Because of you, we were only able to attend the school as a student.” Grim said. “No one has ever done something like that for me before.” The creature said as he slowly crawled up to you.
Everyone’s words had stunned you. You were so busy thinking about the negative comments about you, you forgot about all your relationships with your friends and seniors.
Like, how you always had tea in Heartslabyul. Riddle would always invite you to have tea with him and the others, you would enjoy the peacefulness of the dorm under the supervision of their dorm leader. Trey would always ask for your help in the kitchen and you would have a fun time with him while making sweets and desserts for everyone. Cater would whisk you away to either a selfie-session in the dorm’s gardens or a photoshoot in any new place that the he had found to be photogenic. Ace and Deuce would invite you to play croquet with them from time to time, of course, you were very careful with the flamingos and hedgehogs as you didn’t want to hurt any of them, but, you couldn’t resist in using the flamingo to bonk on either Ace’s or Deuce’s head every once in awhile. It’s okay though, the flamingo understood completely.
Like, how you always trained yourself in Savanaclaw. Leona would sometimes go easy on you if you were invited to join one of their many Magift activities, although, you weren’t sure if he was pitying you or he was just being lazy in general. You would help Ruggie prepare food for everyone as you knew he could use an extra hand or two, it also meant you could pick up a new recipe here and there and you got to taste test all the food. Jogging sessions with Jack were also a normal thing, hey, if you’re going to be joining in Magift tournaments without magic powers, the least you could do is train yourself physically.
Like, how you always felt welcomed at Octavinelle. Azul would welcome you into the VIP lounge when Mostro Lounge was extremely busy and you couldn’t find a place to sit at. You would also help out around Mostro Lounge when you saw that the place was packed to the brim. Usually, Jade would entrust you with drinks while he and Floyd went to prepare food for everyone else. When Mostro Lounge closed its doors for the day, you would enjoy some tea with the three underwater mermen or you and Grim would play around with Floyd, pranking other students and dorm leaders. Heck, you and Floyd even pulled off a few enormous pranks against the staff members.
Like, how you would be invited to feasts and parties at Scarabia. Kalim would always have a big smile on his face whenever he invited you to go dine with him at Scarabia. Jamil always appreciated your help in the dorm, let it be helping him prepare food for the party that Kalim had just decided to have five minutes ago or just keeping an eye on the dorm leader while he went to settle some other business involving the dorm.
Like, how you would have small makeovers at Pomefiore. Every time you walked past the beauty-queen/king, you were immediately stopped by him, because either your bow or tie was crooked or your hair was a mess, well no matter the case, Vil would fix it for you. When you visited Pomefiore from time to time, Vil would take the chance to give you high quality beauty products to try and he would always go on a rant on how you should always take care of your image. Sometimes, Rook would sweep you away just to go on a mini hunt with him. Although, let’s be real here, you two always ended up spying on Leona at the Botanical Gardens while he skipped his classes. Epel would whisk you away to his room and teach you to on how to carve apples. You managed to carve a few of the staff members and even your friends onto the apples, of course, you would carve on a few extra features onto your masterpieces. Like, say, a moustache for Ace or funky-looking ears for Crowley. You also helped to keep Epel in check whenever Vil and Rook were teaching the first-years on table manners and proper etiquette.
Like, how you would enjoy mini-gaming sessions at Ignihyde. Usually, you would initiate the session with Idia. You two ended up playing both Co-Op and PvP games. While playing games that require you to cooperate, the two of you would discuss your plans and pick out the best course of action. The same cannot be said for Free-For-All games though. A few minor insults here and there are thrown between the two of you. But at the end, the victor will always do a little happy dance before continuing onto the next game. You loved Ortho like your own brother! Always treating him to various desserts and helping him drag his brother out from his room. Ortho looks up to you like a sister as well. There may have been a few times he’s actually called you big sis.
Like, how you would go on quaint little walks at Diasomnia. If you needed a breather, you would usually find yourself at Diasomnia. Due to a large forest surrounding the building and the silent atmosphere the dorm provides, it is the exact place where you would go to take a walk to clear your mind. Malleus would sometimes accompany you on these quaint little walks. You and Tsunotaro would chat about your everyday lives and problems the first-years would create. Lilia would make some tea for you after your walks and you would enjoy the tea and bits of biscuits and crumpets alongside the tea. You would also break up arguments between Silver and Sebek. The two would get into fights about the tiniest of things, from blaming each other for losing track of Malleus to blaming each other for not preparing for a test. Sometimes, Silver would accompany you on your walk instead of Malleus and you two would also have little chats here and there. Other than that, Sebek’s view of you actually improved after befriending him. He used to think you were a powerless human as well but after spending time with him and your friends, he realizes that you aren’t just any human being.
But for Grim, you had the greatest impact in his life. You accepted him, you took care of him, you loved him. And he loved you back, just as much. To him, you were his family since he had never had one.
In conclusion, you matter.
You. Are. Of. Value.
You are precious to them, you bring peace to them, you brought them together as a whole.
Once that thought had nested in your brain, you realized that you were foolish in having these thoughts in the first place.
“I’m sorry…” You said, crying. Grim went and hugged you.
“It’s not your fault… Just know that we’re here for you.” Said the furball as everyone also came and comforted you. You had spent the day with them as a whole, you watched a few movies, horror movies in that case. It was fun hearing the dorm leaders and their members scream shout yell made a loud sound whenever a jumpscare appeared.
You guys also played games together, but, I am not allowed to share any details because I actually know nothing. No, I’m totally not being threatened here Reader-san, don’t worry about me.
Send help pls.
Also, after the bullying incident, the boys were a bit more protective around you when in class/school. Usually, your group of first-years would accompany you wherever you go, let it be from your dorm to the cafeteria or from the class to another dorm, at least one of them will be at your side. And when they couldn’t be there, either a dorm leader or an upperclassman would be near you. Any student who seem like they have bad intentions to either you or Grim, would face unspeakable consequences.
And I mean unspeakable. So, I cannot inform you of these consequences as I am under an oath to not reveal anything. Um. Yeah. Good luck persuading the boys to tell you : )

Shades of Him
Chapter 8
Tumblr media
Chapter 8
Oeznik walks over to you a presses his hand forcefully on your shoulder. You shakily stood and followed him away from Zemo. You turn around one last time hoping and begging you can speak to him soon. Oeznik gives you one final push out of the door. “We have a room for you where you can stay if you’d like” he says. You hadn’t thought about what was to happen next but you saw no reason not to accept.
He sets you in a room at the other end of the corridor in which Zemo’s room was. You were glad you could be close to him still, even if he didn’t know you were there. Looking around, you begin to unpack some of your things into a closet. This bedroom had to be just a little smaller than Zemos. It had similar furniture and decor, but faced out towards the gardens.
Before you could look any further, someone knocks at your door. A maid enters and says she’ll unpack the rest for you while you go have a look around. Not wanting to make a fuss you do as she says and walk towards the corridor again. Oeznik stood there and led you downstairs.
He shows you the ground floor which consisted of two large living rooms, a kitchen, library and conservatory. He tells you that you have free rein of the library and gardens, since you probably needed something to do anyway. The gardens turns out to be quite overgrown. A long path led along the acres of land that were filled with all sorts of plants. From red roses to the most exotic plants you’ve ever seen.
It almost felt like a different world, as you walked further along the gravel path, the overhanging trees swayed you to go further. They completely blocked the view of the house and you felt isolated, but not in a way that scared you, in a way that was calming and friendly.
Zemo was the only thing missing to make your experience truly special. Sadness tugged at your heart as you decide to walk back to the estate. The next time you took a walk here it would be with him.
When you walked through those towering front doors you receive a call. “Hey y/n where are you?” Shit it was Bucky. “Erm just on a walk around town, what’s up?” “We are taking Karli out tonight, we know where the flagsmashers will strike next. Can you come?” “That’s great Bucky but I have a major family issue right now. My cousin is in hospital right now and I need to be there for him, I’m sorry” “Oh I hope he will be okay, wait, didn’t you say you were on a walk?” Fuck “uhh yeah just taking a breather, its quite stressful here.”
You wish him good luck and hang up. That was close. How could you ever explain to him where you really were. You begin to walk to the kitchen for a drink when Oeznik appears in front of you. “I got word from the doctors that Zemo should wake soon” “oh thank god” you say. It was strange because he didn’t look happy about this. In fact he seemed to grimace at you. Even weirder was that was all he said, and then he just left.
He was one peculiar man. Later that night when you were in your room you watch the news on your phone. This building had only one Tv, and that was in the smaller living room downstairs. You didn’t want to intrude on anyone so you now sat on your bed.
Sam had taken the shield and became the new Captain America. He was the perfect person to bear such a title. You were glad John Walker lost the shield. What a twat. Both Bucky and Sam had stopped the flagsmashers, however Karli had been shot and died. It was sad to see a young girl die like that for something she believed in.
If only the government would have listened for once. You fall asleep on the bed but only rest for a few hours. For some reason you wake in the middle of the night. It was still dark outside and everyone was fast asleep.
You decide to go check on Zemo. Now was your chance to be alone with him and not have oeznik breath down your back. Carefully, you open the doors to his room and shut them slowly behind you. Zemo was in the same position he was in before. His chest rising and falling softly in the dark. You didn’t bother having a light, it was peaceful in the darkness.
You move and kneel down next to him again. Taking his hand in yours you just sit there looking at him. He seemed to stir a bit at this, or was that just your imagination? “I’m sorry” you whisper. “I’m sorry” you repeat as tear begin to flow down your cheek. It was hard for you to be next to him when he couldn’t even talk to you. You felt hopeless and lost.
It was like a part of you he been ripped away and hidden somewhere. Somewhere you couldn’t find, or couldn’t even reach. Zemo moves again, this time it wasn’t your imagination. He was waking. “Oh my god” you say to yourself.
Suddenly, the doors fly open and none other than Oeznik sprints in, followed by two men who looked like doctors. “Get away from him” he almost shouts. “I didn’t-“ you start but he shoves you to the entrance of the room. “Go to your room and stay out, don’t come near” he looked slightly frantic and panicked.
You had no choice but to leave. As the doors shut behind you you hear a distinctive click of the locks. He did not trust you at all. You waited for what felt like hours. Pacing your room you begin to wonder why Oeznik treated you like that. Did he think you tried to kill Zemo? No surely not. Your mind was racing with thoughts.
In the distance you could hear voices coming from the other room. They sounded almost in distress. You thought enough was enough and you walk back down the corridor. You raise your fist up to the door but as you were about to knock it opens. Oeznik looks down at you. He pushes you back slightly and closes the door behind him, hindering you from looking inside the bedroom.
“He doesn’t want to see you” you stand there in shock. “W-what” you stutter. “He seemed to have gained a strong disliking for you.” You worst fears have become true. “Can I just talk to him-“ you try to move past the butler but he blocks your path “I’m afraid I can’t let you go in there” so he does hate you. “I think its best you leave, now, before the baron realises you’re on his property”
Before you knew it you were hurried off into a car. You felt completely empty, like all life had been sucked out of you. You nearly killed him and now you’re paying the price. It’s what you deserved now, and you had to accept that.
You didn’t realise how you ended up back in your apartment but you vaguely remember in between the breaks in your line of thought, being escorted onto a plane and then a car again. Now you stood in your home, alone. The emptiness embraced you, hung around you like a necklace. You just have to accept that he doesn’t want to see you, let alone be anywhere near you.
The days passed and you stayed mostly in your home. You lacked all motivation to do anything. After a few weeks you heard a knock on your door. “Bucky?” He stood there in front of you. He doesn’t say anything and goes in to hug you. He had always been sweet yet this embrace seemed almost sad.
“Why haven’t you called or texted?” He says as he sits himself on your couch. “I know I’m sorry its just been a rough time for me lately.” He looked genuinely worried for you. “Do you want to talk bout it?” The honest answer was no but you knew he would worry about you even more if you said that. So you nod and sit next to him. “Ive just been stressed about work and-“ you pause, there really was no work for you to do, but he didn’t know that.
“I have this old friend who I hurt quite badly and now I think that he hates me” you look down at you hands “I just don’t know what to do” Bucky looks at you sympathetically. “If you both love each other and care for one another then you will find each other again” he looks you in the eyes “Its not over until its over”

Samatoki Aohitsugi x Fem!Reader > oneshot > fluff
self indulgent. I’ve been thinking about this after the episode that showed a little bit of nemu. i tried not adding too much details and such to avoid spoilers of what happened to nemu so... i hope it worked!
With a hooded expression, Samatoki reached his house. He pulled out his keys and unlocked the door, making sure — or more like tried — to properly set aside his discarded shoes even though he felt tired, not physically but somehow emotionally. He announced his arrival with a grunt, and walked towards the small amount of light emitting from the living room.
Upon entering the living room, he noticed the lights were off while the TV provided the only source of light, till his eyes landed on the form laying on the sofa; hugging a small sofa pillow and wrapped in a disheveled blanket and her eyes closed. Without much thought on his actions, he found himself approaching the form of his lover with quiet steps, careful not to wake them up. But as he arrived in front of her and had crouched down to her level, he found himself wrapping his arms around her and taking in their scent.
Because of the sudden weight on her, her eyes slightly fluttered open and sleepily wrapped her arms around him. “You’re home late... Did you guys get your targets?” She asked, her voice hoarse with sleep while her other hand ran its fingers through Samstoki’s hair. “Yeah. Didn’t I tell you already before, you don’t have to wait so late for me.” He answered, not so fast, but still a bit unsettling for Y/N.
“Come here, ‘Toki.” She called on to him before she pulled away from the embrace and cupped both his cheeks as she looked into his eyes, “What’s wrong?” She asked gently. He sighed and closed his eyes before removing both of her palms on his cheeks gently and answering, “It’s nothin’. Go to the bedroom, I’ll change then we can sleep.” He stood up and was about to walk away as he turned around to leave but luckily, she caught his hand.
“Come on, Samatoki.” She tugged on his hand before standing up, the blanket falling from her body and left on the sofa as she walked towards their shared bedroom with Samatoki complaining behind her, but made no move to pull away from her to not hurt her physically or emotionally.
Once they arrived at their bedroom, she led him on the bed and laid down with him while she wrapped her arms around him while he rested his face on the crook of her neck and just beside her shoulder, taking in on her scent. “Take a breather, baby. Calm your breathing, it’ll be okay. You have me.” She comforted as she drew small circles on his back while her other hand is yet again on his hair; pressing kisses wherever she can reach.
Once she had felt that he had calmed down and maybe is feeling better even slightly, she spoke again. “Hey, I respect your decision if you don’t want to talk about what’s bothering you but... it’s just, the way you look right now and the way you are... I can’t help but notice it. I want to wait for you, whenever you’re comfortable, to tell me what’s wrong but, I just can’t ignore how... sad you really look right now. I’m so sorry, but I need you to tell me what’s wrong, Samatoki.” Her voice gentle and careful, while she also physically supported him with her arms wrapping tighter around his larger frame.
Y/N felt him sigh and his arms tightening aroun her form as well. “I... suddenly thought about Nemu... I’m just so worried for her and I hope she’s somehow okay — safe... or somethin’ like that.” But when she felt him start shaking and choking out a sob, she held him tighter, whispering sweet assurances into his ear. “It’ll be better soon. It will be, it will be. She’ll be back home again.”
“But I...”
She pulled away from his embrace and cupped his face, “It’s okay, ‘Toki. You’re her strong big brother. She knows she’ll be home soon and that’s because you’re so strong.” Her fingers wiped away his tears and brushed away his hair that had sticked against the skin of his face. “I promise you, it’ll be better soon.” She pressed her forehead against his and smiled at him to encourage him. He sighed to calm himself and collected his breathing before pressing his lips firmly, but softly against hers while pulling her closer to him — if that was even possible anymore.
“Thanks, Y/N. I feel better now.” He smiled at her, not a smirk or a grin, just a gentle, soft smile. She reciprocated the smile and pressed a kiss against his lips again, “You can either change or just sleep like that with me right now.” She chuckled and looked down at his clothes before looking back up at his eyes again.
“Nah, that’s too much for me right now. You did this, so you better take responsibility.”
“Fine by me then, Mr. Hardcore.” She replied with a life before wrapping her arms around him again, this time, off to sleep together.
“Hey, babe.” Samatoki called as he wrapped his arms around her. “Yeah?”
“I’m so damn lucky to have you. I love you.”
She snuggled closer to him and pressed a kiss wherever she could.
“I love you too, and I’m just as lucky to have you, Samatoki.”

Kekkon バ花メ
Tumblr media
*•.¸♡ pairing: kita shinsuke x reader *•.¸♡ genre: fluff | farmer!kita au *•.¸♡ a/n: made one out of simp nights hahaha father my children kita listen to the music linked in the lyrics while reading this hehe :3 forgot to tell u guys that kekkon is “marriage” in japanese (quite unsure HAHAHA)
Tumblr media
“cause it's you that I dream of the one who gives me love you’re the one I always believed in you are the one who answers my question you’re my inspiration and it's you you’re the one I’m thinking of”
Tumblr media
"How bout you marry into this family Y/N?" Kita's grandmother suggested as the two of you are making dinner while waiting for Kita and others finish up their business at the farm "You like it here dear, right?" added by your grandmother who's helping with cutting vegetables. As the word "marry" got its way onto you. Without hesitation, you run. You ran from the thought that you'll be leaving city life. You ran from the thought that you'll be leaving that kingly routine that you've had and will now have a sophisticated routine for your daily life. And you ran from the thought that you'll be marrying your childhood friend, Kita Shinsuke
Tumblr media
"Ouch" you squealed as you stumbled upon a rock that you haven't noticed since you've been running for your whole life from Kita who's been playing tag with you for a while now.
~~ Kita Shinsuke. That composed kid that you've met over the time that your grandmother brought you to her best friend's home for a visit. It's the Kita household. Everything's so sophisticated. Right from its ornaments, furniture, etc. Everything's seemed so refined that it wrapped warmth around your heart. It's welcoming and you like it. This visit of yours from the city, you love it very dearly. But there's one thing that you just can't put your hands on. He's emotionless but he goes by the principles. He's not like a normal kid because he's so knowledgeable about cleaning, courtesy, and physical conditioning. As a kid, you thought that this kid is not in the right age. "He must've been older, I think" "He just shrunk back into a child's body but he's older" "This kid is a robot." You've always thought to yourself when you first met him. But when you got bored, you snuck out of the house to check its garden to see if there's something to pass the time with. To your surprise, the robot kid was there. Smiling upon the butterflies that have been flying around the garden. The scenery is picturesque. The subtle sun rays hitting his face like art. Right at that moment, you've had your first crush as a child. Suddenly, without you noticing, your body moved its own and is now holding this boy's face because you've been admiring it since. Now the boy's face is back to its original state. Stoic. Urgh, you've ruined it. But to neutralize the moment you spontaneously asked this kid to play tag with you. And to your surprise, he agreed.
~~ "Oh did someone got injured?" Kita's grandmother asked "Yes and grandma, could you please hand me the first aid kit?" Kita instinctively asked. He's calm but you can see his worry and a timid trembling of his hands while dressing your wounds. He really is still a child. He did not shrink. He's not a robot, he can feel things. "You're really such a klutz Y/N." teased by your grandmother which you just rolled your eyes with then starts putting back your gaze to this boy who's still dressing your wounds. "But you gotta say goodbye now to your first love, Shinsuke. We'll be leaving in 30 minutes." your grandma teased again as you felt heat upon your ears out of embarrassment and disbelief that your grandmother knows. Girl's instincts it is. "It's done now. P-please take care of it afterward and regularly change y-yer wounds dressing." mini Kita said while stuttering. His head is now directed to the floor. While looking further to the sudden change. You saw his cheeks down to his ears. It's flushed red. But as a kid, you don't know what that is. Leaving the Kita household is sad but it surely left a whole mark in your heart. Its warmth and welcoming presence and that boy, Kita Shinsuke. Hopefully, as a kid, you wished that you could go back there and marry him.
Tumblr media
14 years passed. Due to stress in the city and it got noticed by your grandmother. She asked you to come with her for a week to help her best friend back in Hyogo for some harvest. "Ahh, farming. I got an opportunity to be farming," you've thought to yourself sweetly. You've got yourself a breather. So without hesitation, you giddily agreed to your grandmother. Going back to Hyogo, Kita fetched you both at the station. Kita assisted you throughout the vacation. He had been helpful ever since. When you're in distress with something, he'll come up saving and helping you get by. He hasn't changed a little. He's still the same as the boy that you've liked 14 years ago. But one thing changed, he's a man now. With muscular shoulders, a height that's way taller than you, with a refined face that you awe so much. This man, he really is a refined one compared to guys in the city and you fell in love with him over again. This vacation wouldn't be this perfect if it wasn't for him.
Tumblr media
"So your grandma’s staying over and you’re leaving tomorrow, right dear? May I ask, do you like it here Y/N-san?" his grandmother asked "Yes, obaa-chan!! Very much!! The kindness from people, unity, and food. Oh so great!" you've answered enthusiastically. "How bout you marry into this family Y/N? Live with Shinsuke." Kita's grandmother suggested as the two of you are making dinner while waiting for Kita and others finish up their business at the farm "You like it here dear, right?" added by your grandmother who's helping with cutting vegetables. "Please consider it Y/N-san. We'd love you staying here. Even the community loves you." "But how about Shinsuke-kun?" your grandmother asked "Just say these things to him and you'll get the answer," his grandmother giggled "Take your time considering this offer Y/N-san," she added calmly You haven't uttered a word as the word "marry" sunk its way onto you.   Without hesitation, you run out of the house. You ran from the thought that you'll be leaving city life. You ran from the thought that you'll be leaving that kingly routine that you've had and will now have a sophisticated routine for your daily life. And you ran from the thought that you'll be marrying your childhood friend, Kita Shinsuke. You wished you could've said yes properly just like in the movies. But the responsibilities back in the city. You have fallen in love with this place. Now that you've received the news that the community also loves you, you've fallen head over heels now. But the thing is how? "Can I fit into this town?"
"Can I also be a refined individual in this town?"
"Can I get used to this life that's away from the city?"
"Can I be a good mother of the house?"
"Can I be a good and perfect person to stand by Kita's side for life's eternity?" Anxious and insecure. You've become paranoid about the things that have been worrying you thinking that it's a lot to take in one sitting. So you just ran until you stumbled upon a rock and fell. "Ouch, what a good timing rock!" you've exclaimed and soon, you've heard steps nearing you. As you looked up, you saw Kita, running towards you and held your hands to help you get up from your little accident. "Are you fine Y/N-san? Are you hurt? What are you doing outside? Did something happen? Why are you crying? You're leaving tomorrow and you're like this?" Kita asked as he wiped your tears from your cheeks as you aren't able to because your hands are dirty. Without noticing, you pulled him to your embrace. Tightly but bearable for him. He's quite shocked by your sudden movement but he reciprocated. He also wrapped your frame with his arms and is now gently patting your back as you cry your tears out. "Everything's gonna be fine in your case," he mumbled in your hair. His presence calmed your very soul down. All your worries have subsided down within his hold. This man deserves the world. "Ha, this is somewhat like a deja vu." you chuckled as you peeled yourself off of him. "You picked me up again as soon as I fell and treated me until I'm better," you added shyly Your heart fluttered as you hear his mini chuckle in response to what you've said. "No matter what goes on, near or far, just remember I'll always be here for ya Y/N-san. I will do my best to help yer with the best that I can." he calmly said with a beautiful grin spread around his face that made you in awe again. "Thank you Kita-san. Let's go back, shall we? They might be worried by now," you've said "Okay, come on let me help you" he offered as you walk back to their house with the night's still young and a tranquil atmosphere lingering between the both of you like it's some safe space for you.
Tumblr media
"Are you sure you've got everything with you? I can fetch it up for you." Kita exclaimed "Nope, everything's here," you answered as Kita nodded with your sure response. "Please consider what I've said Y/N-san. I hope for your wonderful response when you return to fetch your grandmother." his grandmother mumbled "Yes obaa-chan," you've answered collectively "May I ask what is that?" Kita asked. "That's our secret Shinsuke-kun," his grandmother giggled "Hmm, something was strange last night Okay, so we'll see you in like three weeks then?" Kita asked "Yes Kita-san, see you," you replied as you gently bowed down to show your gratitude to their family. "Shinsuke would be fine Y/N-san" he cooed You chuckled as you give your thanks to them more and bid farewell as you turn your back as the train stood still in front of you. Fifteen minutes went by and you've realized that you've been better. You can never compare to anything that you've experienced in this place. The place that's like a scenery out of art. The wind that takes your worries away with them. Your time with the community that's so well spent. The time that you've spent with Shinsuke was like the world's best gift for you. And Shinsuke? you've realized that he's like God's tailored gift for you. Kita Shinsuke. You love him and you can't imagine a future without him. Even though he deserves the best in the world, you're now willing to do your best to give it to him. A wonderful life, a wonderful child, a wonderful wife and family that may be imperfect but will do its best, and a wonderful future that no one can ever imagine. You're now willing to do it. You now want to stay here and have this wonderful life and to marry Shinsuke. Luckily the next train stop was like a minute away. Without any wasted moment, you hurriedly got on to the train that’s going back to where you came from and contacted Kita to fetch you and you have something to say.
Tumblr media
"So what made you come back Y/N-san?" Kita asked while catching up his breath as he hurried his way back to you. "I've realized something." you've declared with your eyes shimmering like daylight stars "Your grandmother asked me to stay here and live with you Kita-san." "What?" he answered with an indescribable expression that you can't decipher because he's most frequently expressionless. This is kinda new to you and it even pushed your eagerness to know more. "Yes, what you've heard is right and I want to marry you Kita-san. Wait no, I want to stay by your side and build a family in this lovely town with you Shinsuke. I love you, will you marry me?" Nervousness crept its way when Kita just nodded and just directly looked down the floor for quite a while but it exhilarated its way when you've heard sniffles from Kita. He's crying? this is odd Suddenly, you've almost died from shock when Kita pulled you into a hug as he completely embraces you and is now kissing the crown of your head. So he's happy, I'm so glad. "Y/N-san, thank you. I'm so glad. Receiving these words from my first love is like the best gift that the Gods have given me. This is indescribable. Thank you Y/N. I love you too and marry me. No take-backs, okay?" Shinsuke surprisingly exclaimed Locking his eyes onto yours, he pulled you by the waist and he gently cupped your cheeks as he went to kiss you slowly as time stopped itself for the both of you. This is the gift that you can never share with anybody. This is perfect. "I can't wait to marry you Shinsuke," you've said as both of you pulled back but with your foreheads sticking together "Me too Y/N, I love you." Kita cooed lovingly as he grabbed your things to help you travel back to their house to deliver this wonderful news to your grandmothers.

I wanna hear you rant about the Gin vs Hitsugaya anime fight bc I love seeing your pov and you clearly write better than whoever extended that scene :) pretty please
Tumblr media Tumblr media
out of character.  DON’T ENABLE ME SO MUCH !!  No but I cackled when I first saw this ask because oh my god, clearly you saw a taste of my annoyance about the anime adaptation -- no, adaptation implies it was accurate, I’ll say the anime’s take was “inspired by” the manga’s quick run-in. I’ll start by saying this moment is supposed to be a bit important considering, via the audience’s point of view, THIS IS THE FIRST WE SEE OF TWO CAPTAIN-RANKED SHINIGAMI CLASHING. The only other captain-involved fight we’ve seen thus far in the manga is Kenpachi  ( who is an outlier and should not be counted... no, I joke... but, still, Ichigo was not an equal to him, his sword was sliced through like butter. )  The whole reason I enjoyed this encounter between Toshiro and Gin was simply this; it wasn’t some fancy multi-chaptered fight. IN THE MANGA, THERE ARE ONLY TWO BLOWS MADE. One, by Toshiro, to begin the fight. The second, to end it, is Gin’s strike.
I want you to know that I’ve rewatched this specifically to answer this ask, and only due to this, as I wouldn’t have ever sought it out otherwise. HONOR MY SACRIFICE.
Read more for length. I’m merciful.
In the anime, they monologue at each other, and it’s mostly a combination of Toshiro making three separate death threats  ( he starts this off by saying “I’ll kill you before Hinamori arrives” and then goes on rewording it each time, and then also repeats the death-threat he gave Gin prior to this conflict about “I’ll kill you if Hinamori bleeds” )  and then also Gin and Izuru talking about how truly powerful and amazing Toshiro is -- no, this isn’t me being bitter or petty, I literally shit you not, Gin has a line that is legit “AS EXPECTED FROM HITSUGAYA TOSHIRO, CAPTAIN OF THE TENTH DIVISION, A CHILD PRODIGY OF TH' SORT THAT ONLY COMES ALONG ONLY ONCE EVERY FEW CENTURIES. HOW VEEEERY DANGEROUS. YOU’RE SERIOUS, AIN’T YA?” like don’t get me wrong, love a good sarcastic little shit comment like that, but the amount of times the anime pumps Toshiro up like he’s their shinest new cash cow ( and he is, at this point, it is not even 50 episodes into the series and they’ve realized everyone likes him and he’s jumped to high ranks in popularity polls... earning him filler spotlights, and eventually his very own non-canon movie )  so everything coming out of Gin’s mouth feels like more bullshit than necessary. Izuru’s already literally monologued, internally, how powerful and amazing Toshiro is anyways. Why this ?
Not to mention that, prior to saying that long-winded shit, Gin’s haori changed length three times  ( and once it was longer than his entire body by several feet, and no not in a ‘to show motion’ way )  and most importantly Shinso was drawn, consistently, at katana-length for the duration of their little spat where the following, too, happened: Gin frog-leaps after doing a backflip, Toshiro gives Gin two (2) haircuts, Gin ruins some floorboards and gives Toshiro at least one splinter in his arm, Toshiro whilst wearing socks lands on Shinso’s blunt edge and pushes the sword down with his footsie because that’s how that works, there’s another backflip somewhere in there that Gin doesn’t need to be doing, twirl, twirl, and ballet, Gin’s face elongates until his chin is bigger than his face, Gin spends ten+ seconds purely dodging very close strikes to his face as Toshiro is the only one making breathy growly and ‘tsuuaaah’ sounds, there is a brief moment of no gravity as Toshiro keeps hacking at Gin midair and Gin blocks it over and over again but they still stay in the air but they’re not standing or jumping or using reiatsu they’re just like, momentum-locked I don’t fucking know, Gin frowny faces as he blocks because like somehow this kid who doesn’t even have more reiatsu than him, whose arm strength should not be an issue, is like. making him nervous?? as sword sparks fly. if you know me at all you know I hate when they fuckin’ firework sparkler-ify swords clashing.
Anyways, all of this happens whilst Shinso is the wrong length and Gin’s hair is getting purpler by the second and this entire thing is somehow a big jack-off to Toshiro’s immense strength even though he’s screaming and wailing at Gin like a child and Gin’s just a vessel at this point to Enhance Toshiro, which, fine, okay, but at least be more accurate with it god damn. ANYWAYS,
THEY JOUST. They literally run at each other, swords centered, and run past / to the side of one another. Jousting. “Cause that’s how that works. No slashes, no cutting motion. Just swords centered, because the animators were like “no worries guys I know swordfighting basics that’s a legit pose” yeah it is WHEN STATIONARY. Not rUNNING IT DOWN.
And then Gin’s sleeve is cut, somehow, from the Jousting, because wow Toshiro wow wow wowowowow, and then Toshiro comes back and starts wailing at Gin again and Gin blocks it, again, and it’s all very annoyingly repetitive, and Gin’s frowning and sparks are flying and Gin’s using Shinso, the katana-length wakizashi I guess, with two hands because like I said, the animators knew basics and basics are “katana are used two-handed” like. Okay, you’re not wrong, but I cannot stress this enough: SHINSO IS NOT A KATANA. It’s shorter and meant to be used single-handed!!!! sTop!!! So then Gin rips off the tattered part of his sleeve and throws it at Toshiro, who swipes it away from his face using his Zanpakuto because that’s intelligent and a piece of cloth was definitely threatening enough to use your sword to bat it away  ( btw, Hitsugaya wasn’t holding his sword with two hands at this precise moment, so he could have just... used his other hand )  and then Gin goes in for the classic “stabby stabby rapidly at you while the animation gets a little breather because we repeat this cycle a few times with flashy bgs and phew money made” ... WE ARE FOUR MINUTES AND THIRTY SECONDS INTO THIS FIGHT BY THE WAY. Gin does this for seventeen (17) agonizing seconds straight. Yes, I counted. That was sixteen and a half too many seconds for me, personally.
Toshiro somehow lassos Shinso whilst Gin is stabby stabby-ing with Hyourinmaru’s chain component. I say component like it’s somehow some type of beauty guru’s lipstick holder, but really am I that wrong ? When else has he ever used this feature ? Anyways, he lassos Shinso because yeehaw I guess, god I’m falling apart at this point can y’all tell????? I need a drink.
and so, because now Toshiro has Gin’s sword somehow trapped with chain even though it’s just looped around it, he backflips over Gin for a cool trickshot, no blow issued, just vibes, and Gin uses a big brain moment to tug Shinso and the chains slide off. okay now what. We’re past five minutes into this fight, nonstop.
SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD TIME FOR GIN TO PAUSE AND APPRECIATE TOSHIRO AGAIN! “I see, I shouldn’t have underestimated you, HItsugaya Toshiro” I’m starting to have a feeling Gin’s VA was told to just wing these lines because the amount of times he fills silences / Gin’s mouth movements with Toshiro’s long-ass name is astounding, he’s definitely drawing blanks here but he sure as hell knows one thing: that damn ice-boy’s name. He continues by saying “I suppose I’ll end up regretting it afterwards.”
Toshiro says that’s not enough, and it’s really dramatic and cool. His eyes even glow all icy and blue and pretty, like his flowy reiatsu. Aesthetic points were gifted entirely to Toshiro’s animations in this scene. Gin was finished in MS Paint and each new scene they had to draw Shinso from memory and try to remember what hue of purple his hair was at gunpoint. Toshiro lets off a big wave of reiatsu and then it vanishes, and he jumps up reaaaally high. like this guy’s flying. his eyes arent glowing anymore that’s sad. Bring Back Glowing Eyes For Strong Shinigami 2k21.
Toshiro releases his Shikai, and it’s badass, the sky darkens, Izuru looks distinctly more worried than usual, and Gin’s frowning with his teeth out like Bugs Bunny’s having a bad day, all is right in the world. Toshiro and his released Shikai have a nice moment for the Pics, and a big epic freeze frame blur moment happens with it all coiled and swirling around him. Wrow!  ( click the ‘wrow’ it’s a link to my exact reaction )  Izuru narrates for the third time about how powerful Toshiro is, his reiatsu, his Zanpakuto being a deity who is only unlocked every few centuries. The strongest ice-type sword. Pardon the pun, but that’s... you could say, so cool.
It can even control the weather. So hey, next time it’s rainy, cold, icy, or snowing and you’re unhappy, it’s time to direct a big fuck you at Toshiro.
Gin dodges the first dragon, and blocks the second with Shinso because blocking water and ice with a sword makes sense right? This actually takes a solid amount of seconds as Gin cuts through the entire length of this ice dragon noodle. Things dissipate, and pause, too, to really drag this out. Surprisingly, this reveals that Gin’s made a boo-boo, his left arm’s frozen, which doesn’t even mean anything because Gin is right-handed, and Toshiro teleports himself behind Gin in true fighty fashion.
We have arrived at seven minutes and just under twenty seconds of this fight, and Gin turns, DOES THE UNTHINKABLE, gasp! He opens his eyes. His red, dull, evil, gray-eyebrowed with purple hair eyes, and shoots Shinso through its hideout spot behind his haori. This nearly takes off Toshiro’s eye and upwards of his head, but the little guy dives down fast. The rest happens in slow motion, supposedly, because it takes an eternity and people talk entire full sentences in its span of time.
Gin asks Toshiro if he’s sure he’d like to dodge that  ( it’s a little late for that ) and says that Momo’ll die if he does. SHINSO SCRAPING ALONG AGAINST HYOURINMARU STRANGELY MAKES NOT A SINGLE SOUND. Mute. Even though before they had no problem animating and adding sounds to them smacking blades earlier. There are soundless sparks though, so there’s that. Yay. Can you tell how exhausted this’s made me? I need a nap.
Shinso is already more than halfway towards Momo, still unconscious, she most definitely has a serious concussion via Toshiro backhanding her midair consider she’s been unconscious for longer than ten minutes. Toshiro has time to get up off the floor where he dropped to dodge, realize with a shocked gasp, turn, shout her name, and watch as Rangiku arrives in a random glow of gold which never happens ever again and blocks the attack with Haineko. Haineko almost cracks on the impact, and continues growing in damage as Rangiku holds Shinso there, implying that she’s stopped it from reaching one-hundred sword’s lengths to pierce Momo. Yes I’m including that implication / note in here because we love to see Rangiku succeeding in life and being Not-Helpless, all while potentially damaging Haineko severely if it wasn’t able to hold him off. Yikes, Gin!
Rangiku threatens to join the fight if he doesn’t withdraw his sword. Gin smiles, withdraws it, and then Shunpos away.
Whatta mess. Oh, and the anime fight was pretty fucked up, too.
This is a long post, but here’s the manga version:
Toshiro leaps into the air,

This is where the fight actually starts between them:

And end.
Five pages. Two blows. Does not equate to ten minutes of non-stop fighting and monologues. Sometimes, and I mean this in the most unbiased way possible, less is more.

RATE THE EPISODE 140 Responses
Tumblr media
The anime continues its positive streak with just over 90% of respondents rating the episode a 4 or 5. MAPPA appears to be blowing this season out of the water for most of us!
Noice
Good!
I liked it
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING MOMENTS WAS YOUR FAVORITE? 144 Responses
Tumblr media
We got a pretty mixed pie chart this week. To be expected, given how many moments were in this episode. At a tie with the largest pieces of the pie were Hange’s eccentric attempt to greet the Marleyans and Eren’s gunshot figuratively hitting Sasha. Behind that two more options tied in each with 10.4% of the vote - EMA’s conversation at the shooting range and Sasha appreciating Nicolo’s cooking. This is followed closely by Eren’s mirror scene with 9.7% of the vote. Onyankopon explaining why he looks different when Sasha asks him about it took a solid 9% of the vote.
WHAT WAS THE MOST EMOTIONAL PART OF THE VISIT TO SASHA’S GRAVE? 144 Responses
Tumblr media
This was almost too close to call, but Mikasa sitting alone managed to edge out just slightly over Connie’s “I’ve lost half of me” moment at Sasha’s grave. Trailing behind the two were Nicolo’s grief and the agreement between Papa Braus agreeing to a free meal from Nicolo.
AFTER SEVERAL TENSE AND ACTION PACKED EPISODES, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE TRANSITION TO SOMETHING MORE CALM? 138 Responses
Tumblr media
The larger chunk of respondents are feeling relieved to get a break from the action for a few episodes. 21.7% prefer the action but don’t mind a break here and there, while 21% state that they enjoy the exposition more than the action anyway, so they are content. A small handful don’t care either way.
We needed this for another build-up to more action
I like the action but it’s important to move the story along
These just feel mandatory fillers to me.
I miss the warriors
I feel fine with it. I thought that was going to be some happy-go-me episode, but gladly it still had a serious tones.
This episode felt like a very welcome respite after the absolute shitshow that was spoilers week and....whatever the fuck chapter 137 was.
Nice breather of sorts, I always like seeing characters from action-heavy series in their downtime.
WOULD YOU RATHER GET A SURPRISE GREETING FROM EREN & HANGE, OR ARMIN & LEVI? 141 Responses
Tumblr media
The vast majority of respondents would prefer the slightly less lethal greeting given by Hange and Eren at the beginning of the episode. We’re not sure if the other 29.1% are masochists or just really love Levi and/or Armin that much more. Or perhaps they’re intrigued by the pig piss from the filthy island devils.
ON A SCALE OF 1-5, HOW HAPPY ARE YOU TO BE BACK ON PARADIS? 139 Responses
Tumblr media
Overall, fans are happy to be back in familiar territory and put into the perspective of the Survey Corps again. Let’s get ready to rumble!
MAPPA HAS SPRINKLED IN ANIME-ONLY ADDITIONS THROUGHOUT THE EPISODE. AS A WHOLE, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THEM? 139 Responses
Tumblr media
Though subtle, MAPPA did include some anime filler (such as Eren’s, erm, mouth breathing). 51.1% enjoyed the noticeable additions, while 37.4% are completely confused by the question and didn’t realize there were any. A handful generally don’t prefer additions but enjoyed what little ones we had this episode. A small sliver didn’t care for them.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SCENES FROM CHAPTER 107 THAT WERE PEPPERED IN BETWEEN THE MOMENTS FROM CHAPTER 106? 139 Responses
Tumblr media
MAPPA is shuffling things around to pick up the pacing of this arc, and 48.2% of respondents are feeling very positively about it. 38.8% also feel that both the order of events in the original manga and the anime work out just fine regardless. A couple of smaller groups either felt that things were a bit off from the manga, or didn’t really care either way.
I think it's great because it allows an episode to start and end on the same chapter if mappa ever wanted it, allowing the right twists or cliffhangers to be in the right episodes, all WITHOUT having to slow down, which I wholly appreciate.
I'm fine with the changes. Mappa is doing good job.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CHANGE OF GABI BITING HER NAIL AND ANGRILY SAYING EREN’S NAME IN HER JAIL CELL? 142 Responses
Tumblr media
Nearly half of voters feel that both MAPPA’s take and Isayama’s original take work just fine for Gabi’s character. 28.9% prefer the anime’s take on Gabi’s reaction to all that happened, while 14.8% feel that her more defeated posture in the manga makes more sense for her character.
I'm a mix of both? Her defeated posture implies that she's not happy with the way things worked out with them in jail and Zeke betraying them. On the other hand, her angry face is realistic to the scene too because it implies she really blames Eren for their current predicament.
She looks like some female version of young, angry Tarzan. This time Mappa should have kept the original postures, because the defeated Gabi feels to be more realistic, than the crazy anime one.
I think they both work but the anime's take might be the anime team beating us over the head that she's just like Eren when he was young.
Makes it clear to the anime-onlies that she really is psychotic
Gabi sucks
HOW WELL DO YOU THINK MAPPA NAILED THE TRANSITION OF EREN SHOOTING THE GUN, TO SASHA TAKING THE HIT? 141 Responses
Tumblr media
The response to MAPPA’s take on Eren’s shot inadvertently hitting Sasha was overwhelmingly positive, with only a few people saying that they could have done better with it.
Eren shot linked to Sasha's death was awesome. Mappa is nailing it!
THE PART WHERE JEAN, SASHA AND CONNIE ARE TRYING TO GUESS WHAT A PORT IS WAS CUT OUT, WITH ARMIN’S NARRATION INSTEAD CUTTING INTO THE SCENE. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT? 140 Responses
Tumblr media
Exactly 50% felt that while having that JSC characterization would have been very much welcome, they’re okay with that small detail missing from the manga (granted, it was at least acknowledged by one panel being animated). 25.7% have a more nonchalant response, stating that if it helps with the pacing, they’re fine with small cuts like this. 10.7% are just let down by JSC’s lack of characterization in the anime overall and didn’t appreciate even more being taken from their characterization in this episode.
I was more so interested in our Paradis Peeps talking about newly discovered technology but I’m happy with what we got.
Not dissappointed since I understand you can't show everything but I love them so sad
Why was it animated then?! I’m so confused
Normally I don't like it when they cut corners like this, but I wasn't fond of that scene in the first place so it's okay.
If by "anime" you mean the entirety of it including the past 3 seasons, then option 3. I'm always going to be salty about how much they took out or changed for these three during the uprising arc. So far mappa has done okay with them, I guess.
Would have been a funny JSC moment, but it was really absolutely pointless. In manga format it works as just background words on a panel. Animating it takes seconds of an episode that could be used elsewhere. So I'm fine with it being cut out.
SOME HAVE COMPLAINED THAT THE ENDING SCENE OF EREN REPEATING HIS MANTRA INTO THE MIRROR LACKED THE IMPACT IT HAD IN THE MANGA. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT? 138 Responses
Tumblr media
43.5% were receptive of the anime only shots, but favor the way the scene was portrayed in the manga more. 34.1% felt that both versions were done well, with only 9.4% feeling that the impact was largely the same (if not better). Based on the write-ins, the main complaint seems to be the lighting/color scheme of the scene not quite meeting expectations, or that MAPPA made Eren’s back look weird.
theyll make up for it when eren screeches at hange next ep
Impact was there, art just felt a bit wonky and toned down the scene overall. 9/11
This goes into my criticism of the color palette and shading style mappa uses, which is far more subdued. The contrast is lowered and the scene is very dark, and there is little rim lighting, so while the actual lineart has far more detail, the detail in the lighting is reduced. Damn I really am writing a wall text aren't I? I prefer Wit Studio's art style a lot but Mappa has honestly been doing great so I couldn't care less, manbun Eren is hot.
I prefer the manga version. I think the anime version have weirds shadows in eren's back. Plus the mirror don't have the same energy, less impactful
Cool scene in the anime, an unforgettable blow to the brains in the manga
Idk
Most of the time seeing things for the first time is what's really impactful. Feel this way towards Armin's transformation in the boat as well. It was definitely less impactful than when you first read it in the manga.
I understand the fandom because this moment was very popular when the chapter was out. I think that in the anime Eren lacks the anger he had in the manga. His voice was too calm while repeating his mantra. .
WHY DOES HIS BACK LOOK LIKE THAT
I didn't care for it in the anime, it was really underwhelming.
I think most people are annoyed about the lighting than the impact. It’s a bit too dim and the lamp hides Eren’s new hair.
Didn't like the anime version at all
The animation wasn't good and they totally fucked his hair, face, and body up. Although the added shots were definitely welcome.
Eren could've been sexier/animated better, I hope they do better next ep 😭
WE WILL ASK YOU AGAIN. HOW WILL THE ANIME DEAL WITH MIKASA’S HIZURU TATTOO/SYMBOL? 135 Responses
Tumblr media
With Mikasa meeting Kiyomi presumably being inevitable in episode 69, we wondered if any opinions had changed on this. 34.1% feel hopeful that the tattoo will be retconned into the anime and that we will see this scene faithful to the manga. 28.9% think that Mikasa will happen to have some kind of embroidery on hand already. 25.9% don’t want to make a call either way, and a small handful think Mikasa’s going to just pull out an embroidery kit and go with it, lol.
The embroidery will be on the inside of her bandage.
Japanese are very taboo about tattoos because of the Yazuka... it will 100% be the embroidery.
I don't know but I hope it gets retconned. Never liked the embroidery thing.
It won't be included
Let’s just... ignore it..
I really really hope MAPPA retcons Mikasa's tattoo next episode. This will be the one retcon I will absolutely celebrate. Plus, it's not really a retcon if they're just amending Wit's changes.
WE WILL ASK YOU AGAIN, AGAIN. WITH THE PACING CURRENTLY UTILIZED BY MAPPA, WHERE WILL EPISODE 16 END? 137 Responses
Tumblr media
Uncertainty continues to loom over exactly how far MAPPA will get into this (first half of the?) season. Nearly 40% don’t want to make predictions one way or another, while 23.4% feel that it won’t make it quite to chapter 122. The rest believe it will make it to chapter 122, with 17.5% feeling there will only be minor cuts, if any, and the remaining 13.1% feeling that there will be major cuts to make the feat to chapter 122.
116 (?) when the allied force attack paradis
122 with the amount of cuts being somewhere in between. They can cut a lot of the Gabi and Falco plotline and still have the story remain intact.
See, I'm not sure buy I'm also worried and curious about it all. It brings up the question of will the story continue in a possible second half of the season? With the manga ending very soon now, it makes sense to have the story wrap up in its anime medium as well. Fees like there's some kind of uncertainty surrounding this, it's unnerving tbh.
119 with Eren's head being blown off.
gabi no scoping eren, ending creds is eren entering paths and we see ymir standing behind him, s4p2 starts w the ymir backstory
121
No idea and I don't think about it. I just enjoy the show.
Your guess is as good as mine, I'm still fearing major cuts.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT NICOLO’S PORTRAYAL? 138 Responses
Tumblr media
With Nicolo now formally introduced in the anime, we were curious how you felt about his portrayal. Overall the reaction was positive, with 48.6% agreeing that he’s a “cutie pie chef”, and another 45.7% feeling that his design and seiyuu are absolutely great! A small handful were less happy with the voice, but happy with the design, and a sliver went in the opposite direction, preferring voice over animation.

Tumblr media
Respondents vastly appreciated the flower symbolism from MAPPA with 82.9% of the pie. 12.9% aren’t really sure what symbolism there even was, and a small amount either don’t care or felt the effort could have been spent on something other than flowers for Sasha.

WE WILL LIKELY SEE PREGNANT HISTORIA NEXT EPISODE. THOUGHTS? 140 Responses
Tumblr media
The plotline that continues to be a frustrating mystery in the manga - Historia’s pregnancy. 34.3% aren’t particularly looking forward to seeing her in the rocking chair and aren’t very stoked about having to relive this plotline all over again. 33.6% mainly just care about seeing how the anime only fans react to the scene. 17.9% just miss Historia altogether and will take any scraps they can get. And a small handful, at 9.3%, are actually looking forward to seeing anime!Historia with a baby bump.
Don't really care about historia
It's in MAPPA's hands now. I just hope they can add a little more of her screentime somehow.
I hope so. I want to see the design of her adult self.
I honestly wouldn't mind if Historia's entire arc, which consists of equal parts pregnancy, irrelevance and uselessness, is just completely cut in the anime lol
not interest
I'm not interested
I've hated this fucking plot line with all my being and what it's done to Historia since the leaks for this chapter were revealed years ago. So I'm not looking forward to anime-only people jumping in with their hot takes too. 🤮🤮
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?
mikasa was shown in sasha's grave in the morning/afternoon and then she was shown again at dusk. SHE SPENT THE WHOLE DAY THERE. and annie... what a queen. and hisu's few scenes? so pretty.
Really glad the pacing was well done
nicosasha ship just flew in and took the spotlight
fantastic!! maybe it's just because this isn't my first time going through this arc anymore, but i feel like the anime feels chronologically less confusing than the manga—I remember being very confused my first time reading these chapters.
The lack of score by Hiroyuki Sawamo is negatively impacting my relationship with the anime. The depth of the emotion that could have been evoked was not present. I also did not get the sense that Nicolo and Sasha were in love, which was a major disappoinment. There were other aspects that weren't so bad, though; specifically, Levi's portrayal and Onyankopon's philosophy.
It felt a bit all over the place, but just seeing things from the manga being animated, I ain’t even mad.
I think that the scene between Sasha and Nicolo was made better in the anime. Isayama has problems with writing romantic moments, so in the manga the whole moment looked like it was taken from some light romance. Mappa made this scene more serene. I liked it.
I think MAPPA is doing so great tbh! I just need them to hurry up and explain if there will be a part two to this final season or what?! I need to know if we get more anime or they'll diverge into movies or.... just tell us! Lol!
How DAREEEE they not give Levi his black steed!!!! .....Although knowing what happens ummm yeah maybe his pony gets to live another day this way lol
Here comes the train wreck, choo choo!
I'm really sad I didn't get to hear Sasha call Jean a perv. I was really looking forward to that. LOL I love them. When EMA were at the shooting range, it looked too much like Mikasa wasn't wearing any pants.
VERY solid. Not the biggest fan of the War for Paradis arc but I'm here for the ride.

worth taking.
pairing: todoroki x fem! reader
Tumblr media
another day, another new mission accomplished in your path in becoming a hero. you had to admit, it was definitely a new kind of experience; taking a whole new step as a first year in the glorious academy you were in. your parents would be proud. your friends looked relieved and happy at the same time. the girls in your class decided to have a really good nap of success.
they even discussed about it right after they received their results. you smiled as you were crushed into a victorious group hug, with some already shedding tears of gratitude and happiness. how could they not? the endless amount of training, the support given to them during their tough times, the blood, sweat and tears all for this very day, determining their flawless win.
you smiled, holding your results in hand. with the same amount of enthusiasm, you decided to land your eyes on your lover. what did he get? surely it was going to be a number so high, it would make your jaw drop. he has grown so much over the past few months - thanks to his green-haired cinnamon roll of a friend.
but the moment you took a good look at shoto, your sweet smile melted into a frown. a look of concern. all you saw was a dark, ominous aura emitting from him. his face was redder than ever, and one hand was clenching the results, while the other was balled up into a fist, grabbing hold of the side of his warmly pressed clothing.
his lips were now in an uncomfortable squirm. was that really him? what was going on? did he get someone else’s results? you even checked yours to make sure your name was listed on the paper you held. it was. so what about his?
you noticed two of your classmates - also his greatest friends - iida and midoriya, giving him a word or so. noticing that, you relaxed your tensed shoulders a bit more. when he also heard of the 3 month course, you begun to see even more changes.
“todoroki failed the test?”
“no way! one of the best students in our class! what happened?”
“bakugou too! can someone tell me what’s going on?”
that explained your confusion under one second, but also started to falter your excitement. no; it didn’t drain you - but instead, it hurt you. to think that your boyfriend failed the test which of course, was terribly difficult. then again, had you really expected this?
todoroki shoto, the same person who has inspired you to do so much more than ever, to go past your limits, resulting in today. it’s never wrong for someone whom you admired to fail, but by the end of the day, their sadness and anguish would be pain at its worst form.
what was making it worse was that he did not seem to try and look back at you. he constantly avoided you. it’s not like you didn’t try to talk to him, either. you were willing to wait for as long as it takes to actually say a word or two. but when you did get the chance, and when you did try to go for it;
“hey, sho-,”
“let’s go home before it gets late,” he said, picking up the pace in his footsteps.
you felt the sky above your head slowly beginning to catch fire. none of this was right.
you didn’t know what to feel either - if it was a sign of defeat, or was it just him not wanting to share his results, or maybe you did something earlier that made him really angry? okay, the last thought is just complete nuisance. neither of you have done anything to make one another angry. even if that happened, it was agreed to be very straightforward and direct with both of your feelings.
which was why, right here and right now, you couldn’t stop thinking of the same thing over and over. your eyes were tired, your mouth ran dry, and your sweat trickled down your forehead.
maybe i should check up on him, this could be my only chance.
seconds after you patted your bed, you heard soft knocks on your room door. weird. maybe one of the girls woke up, and they wanted to talk about how he behaved weird, because who hasn’t noticed anyway?
“shoto?”
“y/n.”
nothing was said no more, as he walked right into your arms. you tumbled a few steps back; you definitely were expecting a long, cozy hug, but not the kind of hug where you would feel him shaking. the burst of emotions you saw in him earlier, it all came down into one long embrace.
and so you decided to maintain the silence. this wasn’t just the time yet. right now, it was time for you to cherish this, for you to actually take it in. let him take a breather because that’s exactly what he needed as you felt his warm, shaky breaths slither against your skin.
closing the door, you brought him to your bed, now claiming yourself as the bigger spoon. you left soft, smooth pats on his dual colored hair, proceeding to place a kiss on top of it. there it was, a fresh smell of his favorite fuji green tea shampoo.
as soon as you knew it, shoto was already laying on your lap, with his eyes closed. his chest rose up and down better, and his bangs were pushed back with your fingers.
“feeling better, love?” you asked, your other hand intertwining in his.
“somewhat better. though i really don’t know what to say anymore.”
“that’s okay, take all the time you need.”
a few more minutes of silence passed by, with his body now returning to a calmer stance. he showed no sign of sitting up, but you didn’t mind either. you would never want the pretty boy, with his aura finally taking a full redemption phase, ready to take its toll before anything else were to ever happen.
and so, he took in deep breaths.
“i know we promised to talk to each other.”
“mhm. here we are, sho.”
“who knew i would make such a huge mistake? i never knew i would be reminded of the past, i didn’t want to fail, either. i wanted to get my license and- just- i hate this, y/n. i just wish i could do so much better.”
“shoto. hey, look at me.
“do you realize how much of a blessing it is, for them to take you on a course, just to correct you for whatever you’ve done?”
“.....you think so?”
“sometimes it all takes time for the sweet, sweet smell of victory. besides, we’re all here to give you support. i’m always here, too. i have to admit, a part of me was worried you didn’t want to talk to me any longer.”
“no...i just, didn’t want you to see me that way.”
“sho... no. never. you’re still the same person, fail or win. why would i ever think of doing that? don’t you ever think that i will think bad of you, or would try and put you down. because you, shoto, are one of the best people i have ever met, and you’ve constantly inspired me to do better. keep doing what you gotta do. keep making your dreams come true.”
shoto’s hetero-chromatic eyes now looked like glass, the turquoise and gray colors glowing with new hope, and new sparks of life. and as they slowly met your (e/c) ones, you couldn’t help but smile, with how brightened up he looked.
“i can do this.”
“you can definitely do this, i have no doubt whatsoever.”
he sat up a little more, pecking your cheek. “and i’ll prove it to you too.”
you felt your face burning hot. “of....of course, love.”

Adventure to the bathroom
Beetlejuice x gender neutral reader
Warnings: fluff, tiny bit of gore (surgery scars), and a little bit of sadness
I’m sorry if this is short. It’s my first time publishing on tumblr
>>—->
“ (Y/n), are you okay? You look horrible.” Lydia asked looking concerned. You were in fact not okay at all. When the day started you felt slightly off but you payed it no mind. As the day went on you progressively started feeling worse and worse. The day didn’t get far in its schedule, it was only 10:56 in the morning and you felt like you were dying. Your skin was pale, you were sweating profusely, your hands were clammy, and you had a killer stomach ache.
“Lydia... I’m fine.” You wheezed out for the 50th time. “I think you need to go to a doctor. You look like you’re about to pass out.” Lydia said putting a hand on your back.
“ I promised your dad that I would help you with your history.”
“ We can re-schedule it for next week.”
“ I’m not going to re-schedule. Your history test is next Tuesday.” You choked out clutching your stomach. “ (Y/n), please, you look sick and you’re burning up” she said placing a hand on your sweaty forehead. A chill went through your body as she put her hand on you. You leaned your head away and groaned as another wave of pain hit you like a truck. Suddenly you heard a tiny pop.
“Babes! I didn’t know you were here!” A gravely voice spoke sarcastically. You opened one eye to see the familiar green striped demon. You blushed slightly, “Hey Beej.” You mumbled closing your eye again. “What’s ailing my favorite breather?“ he asked, walking over to the table you and Lydia were sitting at. “(Y/n) is sick and they refuse to go home or to a doctor.” Lydia said.
“ Please! Just give me a second so I can gather my thoughts.” You pleaded squinting your eyes at Lydia. You tried your best to concentrate on not passing out. Unbeknownst to you, Lydia had started packing up your stuff and securing it in your messenger bag with the help of Beetlejuice.
“You’re going home, end of discussion.” Lydia said matter of factly, you whined, “Fine I’ll go!” You opened your eyes and struggled to get out of the kitchen chair. Lydia came to your side and helped you stand up with out falling over. You gave her a silent thanks before you started to walk to the door. Suddenly, before you could reach the door you fell to the floor clutching your stomach as an intense pain shot through your entire stomach. You let out a yell as Lydia began screaming for Delia. You could hear Beetlejuice yell something before going to you in an instant. Before Lydia finished her sentence you passed out on the cold floor.
__
Acute appendicitis was the cause. When you passed out an ambulance came to take you to the hospital and you immediately went into surgery. The rest of the day was a blur as you had to explain everything to your family.
When you woke up the next day you were released to go home. Your mother drove you home and helped you into comfortable clothes and then into bed. After minutes of assuring her you would be fine she left the house. Now you were alone in your home with a sore stomach. Carefully, you reached down and pulled your t shirt up. You winced when you saw your stomach covered in 3 tiny scars. There were bruises scattered across your stomach. You stuck your tongue out in disgust and put your t shirt down.
This will be fun to tell Lydia
You grabbed your phone and pulled your shirt up and quickly snapped a picture. You sent it to Lydia telling her about what happened. When she didn’t answer you tucked your phone under the pillow and sighed. There wasn’t much you could do. It was getting close to midnight so you decided that you were going to brush your teeth and call it a day. When you went to move to sit up you realized that it hurt way too much to move.
“Noooooo, come on!” You whined to yourself trying to get up. It was physically impossible and you were starting to sweat from your minimal effort. You groaned loudly through your empty house. You couldn’t call your mother and you really didn’t want to bother your neighbors about this. Of course there was the option of Beetlejuice. He loved being around you and you loved being around him. You blushed at the thought of calling your green crush. Before you could stop yourself, you chanted his name three times and he appeared in front of your bed.
“Babes! I’m so happy to see you! I was-“ He began, stopping himself when he saw your sweaty tired form on the bed. “Babes, what’s wrong? Are you hurt?” He questioned coming to your side immediately. You put up a hand, “I’m fine Beej. I just really need some help getting up.” You said looking at his worried face. You noticed a streak of purple was standing out in his green hair. “Babes, what happened?” He asked quietly taking hold of your hand. You looked at your intwined hands and blushed at the simple interaction. “I got really sick and the doctors had to remove something from my body.” You said, using your free hand to pull up your shirt. Beetlejuice let go of your hand and stared at your partially exposed stomach. He glanced back at you for unspoken permission to move the rest of your shirt. You nodded and he carefully pulled the rest of your shirt up. He looked over the scars and bruises. You looked up at his face and noticed that his face was mixed with worry, sadness, and a hint of something else you couldn’t name.
After a couple of minutes of Beej looking over your stomach, he carefully placed his cold hand on your stomach. The difference of heat made you close your eyes. You didn’t realize how hot your body was. Noticing your closed eyes, Beej quickly removed his hand and carefully placed your shirt down. “You called for me, what do you need?” He asked looking at your face. “I can’t get up from my bed.” You said, slightly embarrassed. He grinned at you, “You poor breather. You guys can barley take care of yourselves!” He said before laughing. You blushed in embarrassment. When Beetlejuice was done laughing he looked back at you and noticed your arms were extended to him. “Do you want me to, uh, grab you?” He asked, unsure of what he was supposed to do.
“I need you to carefully pull me up so I can go and brush my teeth.” You said, making grabby hands. He smiled and took your hands and carefully pulled you up towards him. It hurt like hell but you pushed through it. When he pulled you out you leaned up against him for support. He took notice and carefully wrapped an arm around you and held your hand to stabilize you.
“Okay, just help me get to my bathroom.” You quietly said. He gently started leading you to your bathroom. After about 8 minutes you made it and quickly brushed your teeth. It took 10 minutes to take you back to your bed because you had gotten so tired from the adventure to the bathroom. He carefully put you back in your bed.
“I never knew you could be so gentle.” You teased as you scooted over to the edge of your bed. He grinned back at you and flashed his teeth “I could’ve just picked you up and then left you by yourself.” He teased back. “But ya’ didn’t” you said, closing your eyes. You sighed and patted the space next to you. Beetlejuice gave you a questioning look
“What do you want me to do?” He asked raising an eyebrow.
“Stay with me?” You asked, looking up at him. “Don’t you want someone else besides a dead guy?” He asked, quietly. You gave him a sweet smile “I’d rather you stay here with me because your hands feel great on my incisions and because I’ll need help for the next couple of days” you said, looking at him. You swore you saw a flash of pink in his hair.
“ Ugh, you breathers are so needy.” He said, laying down next to you. You could immediately feel his coldness on your arm. “Haha, admit it, you enjoy being around me!” You said, closing your eyes. He grumbled something but you payed it no mind. “Just get your living ass to sleep.” He said. You didn’t need to be told twice because you were already asleep before he finished his sentence.
>>—->
When morning crept along you stayed asleep. You had your hands gently on your stomach and Beetlejuice kept one hand under your shirt as he watched you sleep. He was on his side with his face watching yours twitch from dreams. He would never tell you about how much he loved this moment.

Lost, but Found
Thank you for the support once again, @ramannnn! This was so wholesome to write, so I hope you like it~
Summary: The pair of hairpins Lien Jin wore with her usual outfit were a gift from her lover, Childe. She treasured them as much as she did anything he did for her, so when she woke up one morning and realized she had lost one, Lien Jin stormed out of home...
Commission info HERE and HERE!
__________________________
The doe-eyed dancer, Lien Jin. To say that she was the treasure of the Liyue Theater was an understatement, especially if someone asked one of her many siblings -- all of whom were also part of the staff who worked at the theater itself. She was a jewel to be kept safe and away from any prying hands, one so precious that they couldn’t leave her alone whenever she went outside on her own.
Of course, the biggest reason for that was because Lien Jin herself was much too shy around strangers to be able to enjoy a walk outside on her own -- not to mention that her overwhelming popularity made her stick out like a sore thumb when she stepped foot out of the theater. Some of her fans were overbearing, which frightened her to no end; meaning that it was imperative for one of her siblings to be with her if she were to go out.
There was a whole timetable set at the kitchen of their house, which was behind the theater. Depending on the day of the week or the hour of the day, Lien Jin was able to ask any of a set number of siblings, all according to the table; though there were some who were prone to leaving their work to escort Lien Jin depending on the situation outside.
However, this time Lien Jin went out in a hurry, running unceremoniously through the back door as though possessed.
“Oh no, where-” Lien Jin huffed as she ran through the streets, her eyes darting around the ground, “where could it be?!”
Worried, the maiden clutched her chest as she stopped to take a breather, fishing through her memories to remember where she had been yesterday in an attempt to retrace her steps. She had lost an item so precious to her that it made tears well up in her clear eyes in a way that would bewitch a lesser man and bring forth a feral maternal instinct on older women.
Even her head felt lighter without the wonderful hairpin that her beloved Childe had gifted her some time ago. She wore the twin pins every single day without fault, to the point that she felt incomplete without the set of them.
Yet, how could she have lost one of them?! Worse yet, it took her a full night to notice it was gone? How did she even go to bed last night after taking off the single hairpin and not noticing that its twin had been lost during the previous day?
What if she couldn’t find it anymore? Childe told her it was a one of a kind set from Mingxing Jewelry! It was such a wonderful, thoughtful and very expensive present… How could she have done it to something so precious her beloved had given her? She had to find it!
Panting, Lien Jin shook her head to clear away the dreadful thoughts and bit her shaking lip.
“Huh? Lumine, Lumine, look! That girl there seems like she’s in trouble, let’s check it out!” A childish, cheery voice chirped from nearby, making Lien Jin lift her gaze towards it.
Blinking, Lien Jin made eye contact with a fairy-like little girl clad in white, who pulled a blonde young woman by the arm. “Um-”
“Are you alright?” The girl called Lumine approached carefully, reaching to her pocket to fetch a handkerchief. “You’re crying.”
“Ah, I’m, oh… What do I do…” Faced with such unexpected kindness, Lien Jin felt her tears pour faster than before, unknowingly accepting Lumine’s handkerchief and sobbing into it.
“Oh, what to do; what can Paimon do…” The little fairy floated around the two of them, her forehead scrunched in worry. “It’s gonna be okay, lady! Let Paimon and Lumine help you, we’re good at that!”
Lumine narrowed her eyes at her emergency food before going back to the crying girl, patting her shoulder in a soothing way. “Although she’s quick to jump to conclusions, Paimon’s right. We’ll try our best to help you, if you’ll have us.”
“T-truly?” Lien Jin raised her adorably red and teary gaze to the two strangers, touched for having received such unwarranted kindness just when she was feeling the most helpless. “I-I wouldn’t want to impose…”
Paimon puffed her chest with pride. “No worries! We can handle it!” She giggled, floating around Lien Jin in an attempt to make her laugh.
Lumine nodded to Paimon’s statement and squeezed her hand on Lien Jin’s shoulder. “What’s happened?”
Lien Jin hiccuped once before patting the handkerchief on her cheeks and eyes to dry the overflowing tears, her nose still a bit stuffy from the sudden cry. “A-actually, I lost something really important to me, it was…” She reached out to the lone hairpin on her head, adorning one of the twin buns she usually wore, “it was a hairpin that pairs with this one. My lover gave them to me when we had our anniversary, so it’s something really, really important to me… I don’t even know how I could’ve lost it; I always keep it so close-”
“HEY! You two!! What’re you doing to my little sister?!” A sudden yell startled the trio into looking at the alley they were right in front of.
“W-waah?!” Paimon flew behind Lumine by reflex, wide-eyed at the approaching woman.
“B-big sister Huifen?” Lien Jin stopped crying immediately, widening her eyes in surprise.
Seeing the helpless Lien Jin crying into a handkerchief while being amidst two strangers only made Huifen inflate with anger.
“What do you two weirdos want with my sister? Shoo, away with you!” Huifen clapped and shooed the two away before taking Lien Jin’s hand. “Are you okay, Lien Jin? You know how your fans are, so it’s better if we bolt from here!” She huffed before pulling her sister back into the alley, completely missing the entire point.
“W-wait, big sister!” Helpless, Lien Jin could only stutter and look back at the confused duo. “M-my hairpin!” She reached out to the now farther away Paimon and tears sprung back into her eyes, delivering a fatal blow to the tiny girl.
“Weirdo? Look who’s talking!” Paimon puffed her chubby cheeks and crossed her arms before immediately flying in front of Lumine with a teary-eyed expression. “We gotta look for her hairpin, Lumine! We gotta! Look how much she was crying- Yikes, she left with your handkerchief…”
Lumine crossed her arms and switched her weight into one leg. “Do you even remember what the hairpin looks like?”
“O-of course, don’t doubt Paimon’s memory! It looks liiiike this!” She took a piece of paper out of their spatial pocket and drew a perfect depiction of Lien Jin’s pin. “Hehehe!”
“Ohh, okay, that’ll make looking for it much easier. We can find her again later when we have the hairpin.”
“Yup, yup! Paimon thinks she saw that girl somewhere… But Paimon can’t quite put her finger into it… Oh, well! Let’s look for the hairpin first, Lumine! We can’t keep a girl crying like that!”
“True, she looked so distressed.” Lumine bobbed her head to the sides as she started to move through the alley Lien Jin and Huifen had just disappeared into, figuring that it could also be there since it was a route they took to go back.
“I wonder who’s her loverperson? She must really love them for her to be THAT sad about it!” Paimon floated on her back as though swimming leisurely through Luhua Pool.
Shrugging, the Traveler focused her eyes on the ground. “You can ask when we meet her again.”
“Mhm, mhm!” Paimon nodded enthusiastically. She loved to learn new things! especially if it had to do with people’s lives.
From alleys to busy streets; from tall buildings to forgotten underground passageways; from the port to the entrance of the city… Paimon and Lumine looked everywhere. It was even harder to look for something they only knew the shape of without knowing the person’s circumstances, likes or where they had been on the day they lost it, so the duo had to comb through so much information it made them dizzy.
Paimon complained of hunger one hour after their search started, then again two hours after, then another two hours after -- to the point that their day was basically eating and searching for the hairpin in their spare time. Regardless, Lumine was already used to her ever-hungry guide, so she didn’t pay it any mind, especially considering the weirdness of the search request.
They were stumped, there was no way around it.
At that same time, Lien Jin finally managed to speak after being dragged all the way back home by Huifen. “Big sister! They weren’t my fans!” She huffed with the door closed behind her.
“Honestly, what if I hadn’t found you? You must remember to at least bring Brother Aiguo with- wait, what did you say?”
Lien Jin pouted her flushed cheeks, tears springing back into her eyes. “As I said, they weren’t my fans and they weren’t bothering me…” she sniffled. “They offered to help me look for the hairpin I lost… Now I don’t even know if they’re going to look for it or not…”
Huifen blinked, staring at her little sister with surprise. “But how was I supposed to know?! That girl was maiming you and you were crying! Don’t blame your big sister for this, okay? You know how we’re all worried about you.”
“I know,” Lien Jin sniffled, using the handkerchief to dry her tears. “Thank you so much for worrying about me, big sister, but I really need to get back to looking…”
Huifen scratched the back of her neck and sighed. “Okay, I’ll call brother Aiguo; today’s his day to be with you and we can’t always expect the strangers will be so sweet like those two from before.”
“Mhm,” Lien Jin nodded, then finally noticed the thing with which she was drying her tears. “Oh no! I took that poor girl’s handkerchief…! I hope we can meet again soon so I can give it back!”
“There’s a good girl. Wait here, I’ll be right back.” Huifen patted Lien Jin’s head before heading inside to call for their brother.
Once alone, Lien Jin reached for the pin on her hair, carefully tracing it with her fingertips. “I hope we can find your sibling, too…”
Once Aiguo arrived, he and Lien Jin set out to look for her hairpin, though there wasn’t much they could do as the hours passed and the streets got more and more packed -- it wouldn’t do to walk with Lien Jin through such a crowd, so they ultimately had to give up and return home. Not to mention that although today wasn’t a performance day for Lien Jin, she still had her daily practice to do, which she never missed for anything in the world.
Well, she usually practiced at dawn until breakfast, but her whole schedule got jumbled up due to the missing hairpin, so she only managed to start practicing de facto after eating with her siblings.
By then, her focus was completely elsewhere, so she couldn’t be proud of the progress (if any) she had made with her steps; besides, no one who accompanied her blamed the poor girl for it. She was barely holding back her tears as it was -- if someone just as much called her out for something, they were afraid she would break down.
The anxious siblings decided to pair up and search town while Lien Jin couldn’t go out, promising her that they would find clues about it even if they had to turn Liyue upside down!
… Or so they would, but the moment they set foot outside the theater, they ran into Lumine and Paimon, who had tracked Lien Jin’s location down.
“Ya think this is the right place, Lumine? They don’t look anything like that pretty girl…” Paimon whispered to the traveler. They had heard that the entire troupe was composed by siblings, so they figured that at least they would have some resemblance, but those brothers… well, the less said about them, the better.
Lumine chose to ignore Paimon and turned to one of the brothers. “Someone from this house asked us for help in looking for a hairpin-”
“Oh! You’re the strangers Lien Jin mentioned!” One of them cut off, “wait here, I’ll get her!”
“-and we- oh, okay.” Lumine lowered her lifted hand, shutting her mouth as the other brothers scurried away to look for the pin, seeing as there was nothing in the traveler’s hands; not to mention the drawing the floating girl held.
Not a minute later, Lien Jin ran to the door, her big, innocent eyes making Paimon cover her face from the sheer radiance.
“You found me! Oh, thank goodness. I didn’t know what I would do if I never found you again…” Lien Jin pouted, then shook her head. “I just washed your handkerchief, so I was going to look for you later when it dried.”
“That’s alright, now that we know of each other, you’ll know where to find me.” Lumine shook her head.
“Wait, wait! She can’t find us if she doesn't know our names, right?” Paimon flew in between the two. “So! Paimon’s name is Paimon and this is Lumine!”
Giggling, Lien Jin bowed. “Thank you for helping me earlier. My name is Lien Jin and I’m a dancer at this theater.”
“Nice to meet you, Lien Jin.” Lumine nodded before shifting her gaze awkwardly. “Actually, there’s no need to thank us, since we didn’t do anything. We couldn’t find your hairpin, so we decided to come here and ask you more questions about it.”
Paimon floated from Lien Jin to Lumine. “Yup, yup. Paimon’s memory is amazing, but I can’t remember things I don’t know!” She shoved the drawing in Lien Jin’s face, then smirked evilly from behind it. “SO! First question: who’s your loverperson who gave you the hairpin?”
Lumine closed her eyes awkwardly, pulling Paimon’s scarf to take her away from the bewildered girl. “Hey, that’s not a necessary information-”
Before she could even finish her scolding, a familiar set of steps stopped a few ways behind them.
“Huh? Traveler? What’re you doing all the way over here?” Childe asked with genuine curiosity.
“Childe! You here to help us find Little Doe’s hairpin?” Paimon inquisitively flew towards the ginger man.
“Little Doe…?” He asked with a smirk in his voice that also grew in his lips, raising his gaze to Lien Jin.
The moment their eyes met, Lien Jin flinched, clutching her chest with guilt. “Childe, I- the hairpin you gave me-”
“Huh- what-” Paimon froze in place the moment the words were out of Lien Jin’s lips, momentarily forgetting how to float as she slowly sunk to the ground. “Childe here is-”
Ignoring the blabbering tiny girl, Childe walked up the steps to the door, rummaging inside his pocket as he did so. “Don’t worry, ‘Little Doe’.” He whispered as he got closer, taking Lien Jin’s hand and placing something inside of it. “I had it with me the whole time.”
Lien Jin blinked at the gorgeous hairpin in her hand, which seemed to sparkle even more than usual. “B-but, when? I don’t remember…”
“It’s true that you had dropped it, but I found it close to my place after walking you back home.” Childe explained, softly taking the pin from her hand and carefully pinning it on her hair, opposite to where its sibling sat.
“O-oh…” Lien Jin looked up as though she could see the hairpin in its rightful place, emotion bubbling in her chest. “Oh, I’m so glad… I’m so glad!” She sniffled, resting her forehead on Childe’s chest as the energy left her body.
“There, there, Doe.” Childe whispered. “Why don’t we go somewhere quiet, just the two of us? Paimon’s gaze is burning a hole in my back right now, so I can’t even focus on hugging you.” He teased in a voice loud enough that the duo behind them could hear as well.
Lumine cleared her throat as though she wasn’t being talked to while Paimon blinked and pointed at them.
“Wait, wait, Paimon’s never heard of this! Since when do you have such a cute lovergirl, Childe?! She’s wasted on you!”
“Paimon, she found her hairpin, so we should get going.” Lumine pulled the tiny girl by her scarf, receiving a lot of high-pitched squeaking in return.
Childe winked at Lumine once they made eye contact, earning a thumbs-up from the traveler as she turned on her heel and left.
“Haha, they’re always so interesting to be around.” Childe snorted at the duo before turning back to his lover with a warm gaze. “Now, where were we?”
Lien Jin opened her mouth to reply, but the one who spoke was someone behind her. “... Leaving, I hope.”
“B-big sister Huifen!” Lien Jin turned around, completely beet-red. “I, um, we were-”
Childe smile and gave a nod in Huifen’s way before slipping one hand into Lien Jin’s. “We have your sister’s blessing, so c’mon, let’s get out before your brothers see us.”
Blinking, Lien Jin looked from her sister to her lover before smiling shyly and nodding, letting him whisk her away into the day -- to their unexpected, but very much welcome, date.
To think that Lien Jin had been feeling anxious just a few minutes previous… How Childe was able to calm her down and flip her emotions to this extent always surprised her, but in the most wonderful of senses.
Squeezing Childe’s hand, Lien Jin allowed her lover to take her away to the unknown, feeling ever so safe within his warmth.

"Children," He nodded.
"Are you alright, there, Y/n?"
"Control your 'sibling', Toothless. Or he just might lose a few teeth of his own." He glares at me and I still attempt to break free.
Mike seems to have found his voice as all of this happened because he was the next to speak.
"H-Hey, they're right!
I swung my fist and I felt it collide with his nose with a satisfying crunch. He stumbled back and grasped his nose in surprise, and he pulled his hand away to find a few drops of blood.
I gawked in confusion at what happened next.

To be happy
Please note: not necessarily in that order
It was taped above my desk, waiting for me to bring it in to the next session. I hesitated to write number 6. It was a dream I hardly entertained after committing my scholarly life to pursue medicine. I used to love to doodle. All the time. Since elementary school. I doodled so much my mom dedicated a wall in the house to my illustrations. She hung a sign above it that affectionately said “Y/N’s Doodles.” Seriously, you couldn’t get me to stop. Even if it was gross sappy sketches of my crush Billy who I would NEVER show on the playground at recess.
My doodling stopped how these things normally do. Because life grew busier than anything else, and the sketchpad and easel my dad had bought for me at a garage sale became ignored, collecting dust in the corner of my room. At some point, it’d become a year since I’d drawn anything, and then it was two, and three, and by this point I’d realized I was the one who’d need to create her own stability in life and medicine was the more logical fit. It wasn’t that I didn’t see the value in drawing anymore, I just had other things take up my time. It became a comfort just knowing I used to draw. Paul had paved his way, and now I was on my way to do the same. At least with medicine, my soul felt fed. It was almost comfort enough.
“oH WE GOT A ROGUE ONE.”
A flying toenail hit my eye.
“WHAT THE-” I flailed my arms, as though there were a thousand more coming. Renny’s mouth opened in shock, her guilty body hunched over her bent leg. Clippers in hand.
 “Sorry!!” Renny burst up laughing.
“oH MY GOSH CAN YOU DO THAT OVER A TRASH CAN OR SOMETHING?!”
“IT HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN!!” she screamed back.
I blinked rapidly, my left eye watering up and spilling painless tears. “Well I’m going to have conjunctivitis at the studio later. Or I’ll be stumbling in blind.” I wiped it away.
I heard another clip and she put up her hands with another giggle.
“All done. And you won’t stumble, I’m going to be there.” Renny extended her leg, her perfectly trimmed foot nearly touching the ceiling.
“You’re just going to solicit Zayn to be his next subject.”
“Maybe,” her grin grew devious. “But also because I want to see if he captured the angelic beauty and complex nymph nuances of my best friend.”
I put a hand to my chest, still aching from uncertainty. “Honored.”
“Want to watch another episode until it’s time to go?”
This whole lazy morning had been an OC Housewives bingefest. She’d seen it on my homepage and had a complete spazz, twitching whilst proclaiming but i’ve been trying to get you to watch this show for YEARS!! When she saw the old season I was on, though, she didn’t have to question why her pestering had miraculously worked. She didn’t mention him aloud besides giving me a pointed look. And so, we watched it, even though I wasn’t really in the mood to see anything about Harry right now. It’d hurt more than I thought to walk away from him last night, and to see how sad he looked when I did.
After last night, he hadn’t posted anything to social media. He’d called, twice, but I knew he was drunk, or worse, and I was tired, and whatever he would say he could tell me in the morning. Even though I knew he wouldn’t.
 And he didn’t.
 And therein lay the problem.
It hurt to see his family on my little box of a computer screen, weird to see his life and get glimpses of his childhood. I felt like a hacker spying on home videos. But then I reminded myself that thousands of people had already done the same. At this point, it was just… morbid curiosity.
“Nah, I don’t know if I can handle any more of that right now. Dr. Rhinecuff is going to yell at me if I don’t return these scanned copies to him by Monday.”
 “Ew, he smells like meat.”
 “RENNY!!”
“I’m just saying. That one time I went with you it smelled like pastrami in his office. He has a PhD, but isn’t with-it enough to buy air freshener.”
“He likes pastrami sandwiches, let him live.”
She scrolled on her phone, not bothering to respond, and my gaze turned to the window.
 “Hey Renny?”
 “Hm.”
A bird flew close to the glass, halting just before it hit it, then zooming off in the opposite direction. “What’d you do when your parents were fighting?”
“Ummm…” I knew the question registered in her mind when she stopped scrolling, suddenly concerned. “Are your parents okay?”
“Yeah. I mean, kind of.” I glossed over it, not caring to get into the bitter details. “I was just curious.”
“Uhh..” She plucked at the soft cotton of her cotton candy pajamas that were fraying at the knees. “I lost my virginity to Zach,” she half-laughed.
 “Zach? Neighbor boy Zach?”
Renny nodded. She always sounded a little sad when she talked about him. Zach was the hot college boy who shared a backyard fence with Renny, the girl who may or may not have used her kitchen stool to peak over and see him workout on the grass every summer he came home. I’d known they’d slept together. I just didn’t think he was her first.
“I just tried to be out of the house as much as I could,” she said. “Found my true love Mary J.”
 “Oh.”
“It was shitty, but I’m glad I got it over with.”
 “The divorce or your virginity.”
“Both,” she chortled. “Why what’s up? Are you sad or something? I have a j in my drawer.”
“No, no, I’m fine.” Mostly I was just wondering what it must be like to feel so sexually liberated. In my house sex wasn’t talked about. At all. The inevitable sex scene in every other movie would result in my dad blaring out “WHAT KIND OF MOVIE IS THIS!” in an attempt to make it less awwkard, but having it backfire and only make it horrendously more awkward. I wasn’t saving my virginity for anyone in particular, but after all those romance novels, I wanted it to be… something. I wanted to feel something towards the person where it would justify something I’ve kept to myself for so long. I wanted it to be intense. I wanted it to be like the books. Like a Frank Sinatra song that swept up your heart and transported you back to a time of gentlemen and cigars and women in long evening gowns with fur coats and martinis.
“I wish I could just get it over with,” I confessed. One half of me screamed YOU’RE IN YOUR TWENTIES HAVE ALL THE SEX while the other half said YOU’VE WAITED THIS LONG DAMN IT HOLD OUT A LITTLE LONGER. I didn’t know which part of me was compromising more.
Renny leaned in, quick. “Would you do it with Harry?”
Like the flip of a switch, I remembered the sensuous heat of his body against mine, wrapping me up and pressing me against him where we just fit. And I couldn’t imagine how much better it’d feel to be even more connected to him.
 “Maybeeee…?”
But then there was last night.
I cringed. No matter how with me he’d seemed… he couldn’t have been present after mixing whatever the hell he took and a handle of alcohol. Did I really want someone like that? Someone who could only give a shell of themselves?
“No, I wouldn’t. Or- ugh, I don’t know. I don’t know if it could ever mean as much to him.”
Renny nodded. “I mean, don’t let him pressure you, obviously. If he does, I’ll kick his baby maker smack into his prostate. Prostate. See, anatomy. You taught me that.”
“Haha, no, he’s not like that.” My brows stitched. I was confused why he wasn’t more like that, actually. We’d known each other for several months now and he hadn’t even put a finger in me. When I thought about it, it actually frustrated me. Don’t pressure me to do anything, but I wanted to be pushed to do something. I was never the bold one in areas like this.
Not that I should be so willing to do anything with him anymore anyways. Something shifted in me when I’d seen him last night. It wasn’t a shift I could easily describe, but it’d set me a foot apart from my heart. A bit of me was shocked that it had happened so suddenly.
But this shift was new, and my heart still wanted what it wanted. I knew that if I watched any more OC Housewives with Harry’s toddler curls and surfer tan, I’d be sucked right back into speculating about what our future kids could look like. And if I saw him?
You were right, Harry. You are fucked.
I cringed again. That was harsh. That was very very harsh.
I didn’t know if I’d have the courage to apologize. What if my pheromones went berserk and magnetized me to his side??
 Renny was right.
 I needed therapy.
The clippers were tossed back on my desk.
“Thanks,” she said. “Have you started on your DG Double P yet?”
DG Double P = Renny Speak for DG Pretty Please.
I groaned. “No. I don’t know how I’m going to do it, honestly. I have to-”
“NO!!! Don’t tell me. We’re not supposed to tell each other.” Her hand extended in panic.
“Fine. I can keep a secret.”
I was getting a little too good at that lately.
She moved onto her belly, splaying her arms out in a dramatic fashion, face squished against the comforter. “Isn’t it just killing you inside.” She was dead serious.
 “Yeah, more than you know.”
 And I was serious, too.
 --------------------------------------
I wasn’t expecting people to dress up as much as they did. Donned in my only pair of yoga pants and a chunky white sweater, I walked arm-in-arm with Renny past girls in cocktail dresses and guys in button-downs.
Something that sounded like a baby’s cry filled my ears, but it was gone as soon as we walked through the doors to the on-campus gallery.  .
 “Woah did you hear that?”
Renny nodded, tossing her head back. “There’s a baby somewhere.”
It reminded me of the bodiless screams in my nightmare. In my chunky sweater, I shivered undetectably.
The on-campus gallery rotated exhibits throughout the year, but this time, student sculptures were on pedestals, nightmarish portraits hung on the walls, and red and orange tapestries swooped down and across the ceiling in a cirque-du-soleil moment as if to secure us beneath fire. Some students had separate booths, but other pieces of work trailed seamlessly into the next.
A tree made from photographs and newspaper took up the center of the space. Zayn had been so adamant about his muse having life, I wondered if that was the focus of this exhibit - to capture natural life. But I suppose all art did.
“It’s the circle of life exhibit,” Renny stated, as if reading my thoughts.
 “How’d you know that?”
She held up a pamphlet she must’ve grabbed from the entrance.
I quickly scanned the room, hoping to find Zayn quickly so I could skip out just as quick.
Several of my professors were here, including Dr. Rhinecuff. When he saw me, I raised my hand, but he raised his cup of red wine awkwardly and looked away.
 My hand wavered.
 Odd.
Zayn was standing by the tree, speaking with an older woman. Her skin was a rich brown, short hair hidden beneath a chic scarf. The man beside her looked around the same age with graying facial hair, a pocket hanky, and beaded bracelets. Art professors.
I caught his gaze, and he gestured me over.
“Y/N, these are my instructors. David and Ebony.”
Their eyes lit up in recognition. “He did you a great justice,” David said, gray moustache twitching with the words.
Ebony beamed. “Oh yes, a piece was already sold. He’s going to be the next big wig before he graduates,” she gushed. “Zayn, I’m sure you’ll be splitting the profits with the heart of the piece.”
She gestured to me and his smile widened, but my stomach sank faster.
“I didn’t know these pieces were going to be sold.”
Ebony sensed my concern. The wine in her glass swirled. “We thought allowing the pieces to be shown and auctioned was a good way to replicate what many of them should be doing once they graduate. The whole department gets involved, and these kids put in a lot of work, and the reputation of starving artists isn’t something we want to buy into here.”
 I nodded. “I mean, that’s great. That’s… really amazing.”
Zayn couldn’t meet my eyes. He knew. He could sense my hesitance, too.
“Now he can finally afford a nice dinner to take you out!” David proclaimed.
We were all quiet for a minute. “You know, for a thank you dinner,” David covered up. Zayn’s brows scrunched and he shook his head a bit, not knowing where David’s comment came from.
“Do you do this regularly?” Ebony asked, steering the conversation away from an awkward moment.
My ears pricked up when I realized she was looking at me. “Excuse me?”
“Well I was just thinking…” a light laugh lifted as if her idea would be outrageous. “Would you mind sitting in for one of my classes on Monday? Our model had a sudden death-”
 “My God,” David proclaimed.
Ebony waved her hand. “-in his family. I haven’t called to replace him yet.”
It quieted as they looked at me, waiting for a response. “Oh, I don’t… I don’t usually do this. At all. It was a chance thing.”
“Luck be the artist.” David raised his glass.
Ebony followed suit, looking at my empty hand. “You just going to let her stand there without a drink?”
“Yeah, Zayn. What kind of treatment is this?” I teased.
He did a slight bow. “Apologies. We’ll walk to drinks, immediately.” He pulled us away, leading us further into the showroom as his head dipped low to my ear. “Renny just passed us to meet Felix and them. They’re through here.”
We stepped under an archway that led into a darker-lit room, but his hand stopped me beneath the nook. “Did yeh notice anything?”
Yeah. I was noticing how close we were in this archway. He saw my eyes start to squint in thought and he turned me around to face the room we’d just left.
 “Look closer.”
My eyes roamed the crowd, trying to find some sort of person, or pattern he could be referring to. With a brief seize of my heart, I expected to see somebody from the gang.
“Look at the artwork, Y/N.” His breath warmed my skin.
The paintings all seemed to be bright, though sticking to red, orange, blacks, and grays. Wait, forget a pallette pattern. The next painting had blue and purple, too. One sculpture looked like a writhing ghost, twisting and reaching for something above. Or maybe it was an unearthed tree root. Despite all the bold colors, there was something off-putting about how bright they all were. It wasn’t a soothing brightness. It was almost violent. The orange and red writhing tapestries warped the ceiling into something hot.
“Is it hell?” I chortled, but quickly quieted. I expected him to take offense, but his hand went lightly around my waist with a small smile.
“Could be. See-” his arm extended out to scan the perimeter “-all this art is supposed to represent death, but challenge the notion of it through color.”
 “How so?”
“Yeh know it’s usually your blacks, and your grays, s’depressing shit. But we’re born from death. Before life, there was nothing, but something. It’s bold and necessary and there, and no one really knows whatever comes before. Or after.” He looked at the room, taking a sip of wine. I watched as he swallowed, and I imagined the wine running down. “What is death but an uncertain existence.” He said the thought almost happily, looking at me with a slight smirk. “Could be anythin’.”
He took a deep breath, letting his hand touch the top of the archway. It was then that I noticed it wasn’t just plain drywall. A collage of photographs ran all along the inside.
He wasn’t as tall as Harry, but his hand still reached the top, scuffing across a picture of an African landscape taped over a toddler eating fruity pebbles.
“They’re pictures. Everyone donated one,” he said.
A strand of words were painted over the collage, running from one end of the archway to the other, and I tilted my head back to read it. “Things... that…. make... m..e …...feel alive.”
“Everyone was able to design their space in order to control, to some extent, how their art was perceived. Everyone was a part of the transition space.”
“Very nice,” I noted, slightly put-off. I hadn’t been expecting this art show to be so… professional. “Zayn, this is amazing. Like, really, truly, professional-grade stuff is happening. The presentation, the pieces, everything.”
His smile grew wider, putting cool hands over my eyes. I flinched, but let him.
 I felt him come closer.
“Listen now,” he urged.
I listened, but I wasn’t sure for what. There was the familiar busy rumble of people mingling, parents visiting their kids, and professors droning on about the talent of their students. But it was chatter. I couldn’t make out one conversation over another. I shrugged up against his other hand that was atop my shoulder.
“Sometimes you need to change where you’re planted to understand.”
I hoped he could see my cross expression because I couldn’t tell if he was bullshitting me right now. It’d been a day. It’d been a night. And I wasn’t in the mood for more philosophical ramblings - especially about death. “I don’t know what you mean,” I sighed.
“Meaning I have to move you closer to the speakers.” He let out a breathy laugh. “Jus’ keep your eyes closed, okay?”
I nodded. His hand moved, tilting my head to its side. Eyes still closed, I became self-conscious imagining people trying to move past me, and here I was, planted, eyes closed in the middle of the archway. My cheeks heated. It was unnerving knowing people could see me when I couldn’t see them. And anyway, I must’ve looked ridiculous.
“What do you hear?” he urged.
“I hear a lot of people talking,” I griped.
But right when I was about to open my eyes-
I heard a familiar chirping through the chatter.
 “Birds?” I opened my eyes.
“Observance can be taught, sometimes.” Zayn leant back, looking mighty proud of himself.
 “Why are there birds?”
“We’re entering life,” he smiled, backing into the space. I tipped my wine back, several long gulps lightening my step as I followed him. Immediately, I noticed much more natural, earthier tones. For being a room of life, it was surprisingly darker than the prior room.
Renny, Felix, and Andre were huddled in the center where a makeshift wall-on-wheels covered in vines divided the room in half.
My eyes widened, trying to adjust to the dimness. “It’s a lot darker in here.”
“All intentional. They decided to play with light in here. People usually think of life being bright ‘n that, but it’s also when we experience varying degrees of darkness. There’s a balance to things and the trouble is finding it.” Understanding laced his voice as his dark eyes bore into mine, almost completely black. One look from Zayn and I was reminded of all the weight I’d been carrying. I fidgeted, uncomfortable seeing myself in his eyes.
“Y/N, get over here!” Renny called. My shoulders visibly relaxed. My saving grace. “You didn’t tell me you did this,” she said lowly as soon as I got close enough, shocked excitement barely contained. Her giddy smile gave it away though. “Miss sexy secret keeper over here.”
 “What do you mean?”
She playfully poked my sides, but Andre and Felix avoided my gaze. Something wasn’t right. And it stirred my stomach, my body already knowing, somehow.
I turned in slow motion, the charcoal drawings in my peripherals stopping me in place. Framed amidst the vines, my face was etched onto paper, scrunching and twisting in various expressions. But my body was attached and twisting, too. And it was bare, bent over, spread out, laying down… My eyes scanned over them a dozen times in a second.
 I was naked.
 In all of them.
One was titled “21st Century Love.” In this one, I faced the viewer, but looked past them, sorrowful eyes, brows furrowed, breasts I’d never shown on full display. A hickey or two on my neck. A painful sting gripped my chest. I looked sad. I looked so sad.
Tunnel vision, a blurred Renny rushed down to the floor, and a distant part of me registered something wet splatter on my feet.
 The wine had dropped.
 I’d dropped it.
I was trapped in a shell. My body was numb.
“Babes, you okay?” Renny asked, her voice somewhere far away. Somewhere outside the shell, her voice drowned in the busy rumbling, with the birds, with the watchers. People were watching me now. I was being watched. “Felix, grab some towels!” she barked.
I looked horrified, towards Zayn, but changed my mind just as fast. I couldn’t look at him. I couldn’t even breathe.
He didn’t know me at all. He could stare at me for a thousand sessions and paint every crevice, sunspot, blemish, and mole and still not see me. How was an artist this blind? How could he not know that this was the last thing I could ever want? How could he picture me so… intimately?
The paintings seemed to swirl into one before bouncing back out into their separate exposees.
 Because that’s what it was.
 An exposure.
A stranger could pay to have me in their home.
 The floor spun, vision spotting.
My lungs tightened, tearing me away from Renny, from Felix, from Andre. From Zayn, the artist who painted a confused girl so unashamed. So honestly. Savagely and Unabashedly.
 “I didn’t want this.”
And it was when I was halfway out the door that I realized the voice had come from me, a mantra pushing my shell all the way home.
