Mercurial Lavender Oil for the Sight - Reviewing my results

So, I’ve been using this oil on and off for about six months now (damn I thought less time had passed) and here are my thoughts on it!

For starters, I think my choices for the oil were a bit unusual: looking back, considering my goal is to hone my Sight — and I’m using this word very loosely — I wonder why I chose Mercury instead of the Moon. In a way, it makes some sense, but my experiences (or the particular way I’ve used the oil) seems to diverge from a general sharpening of psychic capacities, which was my initial objective, to a more time-limited flow of spiritual information, and thus, the oil has been a great ally in aiding my divination, and I have felt that there is a significant difference between my readings when I use it properly and when I don’t.

I’m not naturally sharp in any sort of psychic ability — save for that one time as a kid — so learning to divine has been like learning any other activity from scratch, and now I can say I’ve come to a point in which I’m satisfied with my level of divination and with my relationship with my Tarot. That’s why I was so shocked when I tested the oil out during a reading and it was the clearest I’ve read in all my years of hard work lol. I’m obviously not advocating for only using the oil and putting no effort in getting better at whatever you're doing.

Using the oil while I divine feels like, as I read the cards, the general pieces of information I would otherwise have to consciously connect and interpret, simply fall into place, as if I’m reading a letter and not colorful pictures. However, I have felt that awakening the Oil and requesting it’s help is essential for it’s usage, or it’ll just feel like not using anything.

In conclusion, this seems to really help the flow of information, as you’d expect from Mercurial magic, just not in the way I had envisioned. I also wonder if this can help the flow of magic itself, but that’s something I am yet to test.

Recipe

Materials: olive oil, lavender; sandalwood incense and some sort of drink as offerings.

When: Day and hour of Mercury.

How: lightly crush your lavender and, during the appropriate hour, light your incense, call for Mercury and make him a short prayer. Mine was along the lines of “Mercury, planet of paths, spirit of communication, come to me, and be present in this ritual, bless my work so in gratitude I will make offerings to you.” With your hands above the lavender, say something like “Lavender, I call for your strength and your spirit. May your power spread into the oil, and may it unlock my psychic potential. Thank you." Put the lavender inside whatever you’re using to store the final product and add the olive oil on top. Mix it as you pray: “Glorious Mercury, force that brings the information, bless this oil with your grandeur, and let it unlock my psychic potential. Lord of the roads, open my paths of communication with the spiritual world, tune my perception and make knowledge flow. Thank you. I thank the forces that were present to bless this ritual and strengthen my magic. Glory to you, dear spirits.” After that, offer the liquid and let the incense burn until finished. Keep the oil in a dark and cool place for a lunar cycle to steep before using it.

The Sun (also called Sol) is the one and only star in our solar system. Throughout the time almost every culture has worshiped the Sun as either a God or Goddess. Ancient Shamans used the power of the sun to heal the mind. The Sun is associated with life, health and healing. The light of guidance and illumination is an important magickal symbol. Solar energy helps you center in your own power, like the center of the solar system. Planet Earth orbits around the Sun. Other bodies that orbit the Sun include other planets, asteroids, meteoroids, comets and dust. Generally, the primary stellar body around which an object orbits is called its "sun", and stars in a multiple star system are referred to as the "suns" of bodies in that system.

Sun Water

Sun water is very similar to moon water. But rather than being charged by the moon, it’s charged by the sun. Sun water can be especially useful for helping boost the energy of a spell, to help an intention grow, and to cleanse.

Leave the bottle with water out in the sunlight or shade (indirect sunlight) during any time of day and for your preferred amount of time.

Modern Planetary Rulership Erasure Rant.

Astrologers who refuse to acknowledge modern planetary rulers are basically our community’s version of boomers.

To ignore change is to ignore progress or something deep idk.

Sure, take into account which planet ruled what before we could properly explore space, valid. It’s fine if your astrological practice is one way, but it’s another to tell people that modern rulership is bs or “fake” in some way.

Just flat out refusing to agree with people who say, for example, “oh neptune is doing this thing, watch out pisces folks” is so lame lmao. Like I’ve seen people selling chart readings that actively refuse to include these planets. You don’t even have to agree tbh, just scroll away!!! It’s free!!! 💀

Y’all are the ones excluding a whole huge chunk of information and context from your chart readings. And I don’t mean to act like y’all and talk down on how you do things (though it seems you’re overdue for a taste of your own medicine), but it’s kinda just the truth. So much depth is added to a reading by acknowledging the newer parts of our solar system. Not to mention, popular opinion seems to be that the modern planets make more sense ruling the signs that they do. Might be simpler if y’all just say y’all wanna be different/contrarians, no? Lmao.

Even weirder is the people who do this, who have some kind of superiority complex about it 💀 like yes, congrats, you’re several decades behind the rest of us. You’re soooo much better at astrology than the rest of us??? Because that makes sense???

Reddit is particularly full of these obnoxious astro-boomers. People will ask a question ab what neptune is affecting in their chart and the astro-boomers descend and start spouting shit like “I don’t consider neptune in my readings blah blah blah”. If you don’t know, don’t comment 💀

Things are forever evolving and changing, no matter the area of life. Either get on our level, or don’t. But don’t be a dick about it. When you’re a dick about it, then I have to be a dick about it and no one wants that 💀

In my craft, I like to use planetary hours. Partly because it feels like a nice boost to my spells when I do them in the hour of the planet with corresponding… correspondences, lol, and partly because I have executive dysfunction and putting a time limit on when to start or finish a spell by helps me out a lot!!

Planetaro is the app I’m gonna talk about in this post, because its main function is about what planetary hour we’re in! Now, I could always google it and search for a good website, but there’s a reason I like to use this app instead.

If you’re interested in using planetary hours but don’t know what each planet represents, you can flip a switch in settings so it’ll tell you the planet’s correspondences

It has widgets. Yes, yes, widgets again, I love them a lot. Home screen and lock screen! The widgets I use from this app not only tell me what planetary hour we’re in and when it started and will stop, but also the sun rise and set, the planet that rules the current day, and the order of what planets will rule the next few hours!

AND, listen here guys: you can choose the color of most of the widgets, AND the app itself. I appreciate this so much lol, since I love to keep a certain color scheme on my phone. It offers a custom gradient, but you can also just make both colors the same if you want a solid color.

All the info I listed in the second bullet point is also in-app, ofc.

It tells you the planetary hours of the whole day in-app, and for any other day you choose! You can go in the calendar and pick a day if you want to plan ahead, or if your curious about what it was during a spell you casted already.

You can turn on notifications for when the planetary hour changes/when the hour is ruled by a specific planet. I’ve used this so that I’d get a notif when I should start a spell or blow out a candle or smth

It also gives you tips of good things to do based on the planetary hour, and I don’t just mean magical. I personally don’t use this feature, but it could be fun!!

This app is entirely free aside from a few widgets that you’d have to purchase—but there are other free widgets with the same amount of info on them anyway!

Yeah I can’t think of any downsides for this app. It’s great! I’m very glad I found it!

The Origin & Evolution of Correspondences in Witchcraft

If you’ve been a witch for a while, you’ve probably asked yourself: where do correspondences come from? Who decided that lavender was good for calming, or that obsidian was good for absorbing negative energy? Where does the concept of correspondences come from in the first place? To answer these questions, we must first look at something called “correlative thinking”: Marcel Granet (1884-1940), a French sociologist, coined the term “correlative thinking”, which can be defined as “thinking of an item of one class by correlating it with an item of another class”, typically organizing and relating “natural, political/social, and cosmological data in highly ordered arrays or systems of correspondence.” Sound familiar?

Correlative thinking takes many forms throughout religion, philosophy, and humanity – even showing up as early as Mesopotamia, where they believed events on earth ran parallel to events in heaven: “each city-state had its own patron god and every change in the balance of power between the city-states was seen as the direct reflection of a change in the relationship of the gods.” (Cavendish, pg. 12) In ancient Greece and among Hellenic philosophers, they came up with the “macrocosm/microcosm” analogy, which describes the relationship between the smaller, human being (the microcosm) with the much bigger, seemingly infinite cosmos (the macrocosm).

This correlative thinking is prevalent in many magical texts throughout the years – including The Emerald Tablet (late 8th-early 9th century), The Picatrix (a 9th century Arabic grimoire), The Key of Solomon (1312), and the Three Books of Occult Philosophy (1533). After the publication of The Three Books of Occult Philosophy and the boom of new-age spiritualism in the 1970s, there have been a massive number of publications related to witchcraft, correspondences, ritual magic, and more. For the purpose of this post, however, we’ll be focusing on these foundational texts to better understand the evolution and origin of correspondences.

The Emerald Tablet, dated around the late 8th-early 9th century, is one of the most highly influential texts within the philosophical and occult realm. An English translation of a line of text within The Emerald Tablet provides one of the most popular terms among new agers and modern pagans: “That which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above”. A shortened version of this phrase, “as above, so below”, can be found in Helena Blavatsky’s work, Isis Unveiled (1877), where it became massively popularized among the modern pagan community. This phrase, along with terms related to correlative thinking, tie back to many cultures – including China, India, and more.

The Picatrix, 9th-century Arabic grimoire on astrological magic, is yet another influential piece of text. This text contained astrological magic, magical potions and spells, and different Hermetic, Neoplatonic, and Aristotelianism philosophical passages – and it also included the explanations of links between planets and intangible objects such as colors and perfumes/fragrances.

After a few series of translations in the 12th and 13th centuries, the information within the Picatrix (and other sources) were recorded and arranged by Henry Cornelius Agrippa (1486-1535) in his work, Three Books of Occult Philosophy in 1509 (not being published until 1533). From there, Dr. John Dee (1527-1604) expanded on Agrippa’s work in the 1580s and 1590s.

Shortly after, in 1620, the Magical Calendar was published, which compressed much of the previous material. This calendar, amazingly recorded on one page, “contains tables of correspondences arranged by number, from one to twelve. The material is based largely on the extensive tables in Agrippa, book II, but goes beyond this, especially in its inclusion of sigils.” (Skinner, pg. 14)

Moving onto another incredibly influential text, The Signature of All Things, published by Jakob Bohme in 1764, covers a similar concept to correlative thinking known as ‘the doctrine of signatures’: God created everything on Earth with a “signature”, or sign, that tells you what that object’s purpose is. The idea is that any plant, herb, or object on earth should resemble what it’s purpose is – for example, walnuts (which look like brains) are used for brain health, and tomatoes (which are red, plump, and contain ventricles like the human heart) are used for heart health. Obviously, this concept was adopted in the context of medicinal use – by looking up an object’s signature within this book, a physician could theoretically find treatments for specific illnesses. While the contents of this book (and similar texts) have been debunked as pseudoscience, the influence of the doctrine of signatures is prevalent in witchcraft correspondences today.

In 1888, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was founded, and during that time S L MacGregor Mathers (1954-1918) and Dr. Wynn Wescott (1845-1925) prepared knowledge lectures for the Order, which eventually led to the generation of a Book of Correspondences (unpublished). According to Adam McLean in his edition of The Magical Calendar, this book circulated among members of the inner order of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and was later published by Aleister Crowley as his own work, Liber 777 (1909). Meanwhile, in 1908, The Kybalion (an anonymously written text, though often attributed to William W. Atkinson [1862-1932]) was published, including topics like “The Principle of Correspondence” and “The Planes of Correspondence”.

From here on, we have an uproar in magical texts, thanks to the new-age/spiritualism movement of the 70s and 80s – popular authors like Gerald Gardner, Scott Cunningham, Ray Buckland, and many others published works on the subject of magic, often including their own correspondences, typically influenced or inspired by the works of Crowley, Mathers, and Atkinson. Of course, the contents of these modern texts are what is most recognizable to practitioners today – we usually find tables of information, relating astrological signs, herbs, planets, feelings, colors, and more to their “meanings”: protection, anti-stress, happiness, love, etc.

As it stands, correspondences are a by-product of the ‘correlative thinking’ concept we covered earlier – this correlative thinking shows up in Mesopotamia, and evolved throughout magical texts and grimoires, eventually becoming these “tables of magical correspondences” that we are familiar with seeing in modern witchcraft and pagan books and resources.

As I round off this post, I want to share a quote from Richard Cavendish in his book, The Black Arts: “Man is a tiny replica of the universe. If two things are naturally associated together in the human mind, which is an image of the ‘mind’ of the universe, this is evidence of a real connection between the two things in the universe. Many of the important magical analogies and connections are not natural to most people’s minds today, but have been handed down by tradition from the remote past. This enhances their value for occultists, who believe that humanity was a great deal wiser in these matters in the remote past than it is now.” As practitioners, particularly modern practitioners, I feel we put too much emphasis on older concepts and traditions. While there’s nothing necessarily wrong with sticking to traditions and building off of older magical systems, I think it’s just as important that we work on our own magical systems – what does the color red mean to you? What about the planet Jupiter? Find out what works for you – you may find that it makes you feel more connected to your craft and your practice, and your workings could become more powerful, too.

What is a Cosmic Witch? ✨🔮

A cosmic witch, by my own definition, is a witch who utilizes planetary and celestial energy in their practice. While some witches tend to feel a connection with elements like earth, air, fire, and water, cosmic witches feel this connection with celestial bodies instead.

Some practitioners who practice planetary magic focus on the seven classic “planets” (I know the sun and moon aren’t planets but: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn), whereas a cosmic witch might include the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) as well.

A cosmic witch may also utilize the energy of other celestial bodies when appropriate, such as comets, asteroids, meteors, supernovas, stars/star clusters, galaxies, black holes, etc. We may not be able to see these specific occurrences with the naked eye (most of the time), but we know they exist and can harness energy from them when we see fit.

A cosmic witch may use a combination of both astrology and astronomy in their practice. The big difference here is that astrology, by definition, is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world; which can be seen as a form of divination. Astronomy, on the other hand, is a science that examines the positions, motions, and properties of these celestial bodies.

Astrology may be a cosmic witch’s preferred form of divination, but other mediums can be used. I like to use an oracle deck whose meanings are based on astrology, but I also enjoy using Elder Futhark runes and tarot cards. Perhaps a cosmic witch with a strong affinity for Lunar or Neptunian energy might take up water scrying; a cosmic witch who connects with Jupiter may want to use a pair of dice or playing cards; a cosmic witch who connects with Plutonian energy may utilize reading bones as a form of divination, etc.

Cosmic witches may worship deities and call upon them for assistance, the most common and relatable being those of Greco-Roman origin considering the planets were named after Roman and Greek Gods. Many cosmic witches may lean towards paganism, pantheism, or astrolatry but religious affiliation is not required and we are not bound by such.

Aside from deities, the belief in alien beings is totally plausible in the same way that some witches believe in fae or angels.

Cosmic witches are not limited to what kind of items they use in their practice: herbs, crystals, incense, sigils, charged water, and other things can be used to utilize and represent celestial energy.

The timing used for spells can be based on a variety of things, such as planetary positions/alignments, lunar cycles, days of the week as they correspond to the planet the day was named for, or planetary hours.

Astral travel is useful for cosmic witches if they decide to travel within the cosmos, being able to “visit” and visualize the different celestial bodies in their own way.

Cosmic witches may use celestial energy to ground, center, and cleanse themselves (and other objects), instead of “earth grounding” or other common methods.

My Review of The Greatness of Saturn

A Therapeutic Myth

The frequency of my writing have been decreasing as I have had my focus on my life, deepening my practice and so on. I hope that this review serve as a initial summary and representation of everything I got out of this myth without spoilering it...because why would I? it would ruin the story for you! In Any case I wanted to start this on a good start. The whole book is surrounding the Sade Sati Period or 7 and a half years where Saturn goes the sign before, in, and after the moon's natal placement, that means it spend 2.5 years in each sign. Saturn is slow and he makes it very apparent when he goes into it. For reference this is focused on the jyotish/sidereal astrological period and not on the usual less gloomy Saturn's return.

I am honestly surprised by how powerful myths can mesh and seep into our life that they become these forces that's almost a channel or a gateway for the deities and spirits to reach us through, it honestly make me think of the stories of prophets, and other mythological stories which moves us and where we really need to throw ourselves head first into them to really feel what they mean, their sorrows, happiness, and all the emotions of the stories to really be there. Anyway back to the book itself, I was mind blown by it's effect on me and my life as I started to get into the myth itself I was genuinely HOOKED during my travel and in the airplane I felt like I was seized/possessed by it and couldn't put it down almost like the spirit within the whole myth was carrying me with it. It definitely had a lot of impact considering the personal situations I was going during the time of reading it. The invocation of delay, slowness, and wanting to move but not being able to move was apparent to say the least, Saturn really makes time slow down to a halt and whatever seemed like a small time start expanding to feel like an eternity, but enough of that. The stories of the planets from Sun to the lunar nodes was quite a thriller from first chapter until the ninth then it took a very sudden turn. The Begging of the universe were Bali the asura(and future Indra) gave the land back to the devas it felt like it was setting up the scene for the theme of Time, the theme of inevitability but not of fatalism. The whole story took a very dark turn for the protagonist of the story (King Vikrama) and everything about it was about accepting the conditions, working with them, and so on. Again it is this consciously aware of the situation and the wavering faith that made King Vikrama fall into that situation even though he did the proper astrological remedies he regretted and felt uncertain of what he was doing, he really accepted his fate and fell into fatalism that threw him into that.

Had he accepted Saturn in the beginning, the king would never have had any problems (or at least they would have been fewer), for once he accepts, all is well. It was necessary though that someone be dragged through the depths of Saturn's "play," that the rest of us who can learn from his example might be exempted from the worse of it. Like Jesus, who was crucified that we might be saved, King Vikrama asks that others be spared his Misery.

I know, I haven't really said anything about the story or what not because I really want you to read it and go through it yourself. Other than that the aspect of the Graha/planetary forces become more of this apparent and conscious relation with the planets, we start to become more aware of it and thus more receptive to positive possession instead of being negatively possessed by it. In the end we are all getting possessed by all the forces and a thousand thing in a way, and just like that maybe we want to get possessed by positive forces instead of letting whatever come through pass through us. In a way I want to finish this review that this book have pulled forces in my life I wouldn't have been able to pull with my own ritualistically consecrated hands nor would I conceive of a way that would let me wrangle and subjugate the forces myself, the great supreme power of the myth was shown to me in action, in real life, and in words.

Salutation to Lord Saturn, I bow to him who's great Kona (the Angle), Antaka (the Terminator), Raudra (the Fierce), Yama (Death), Babhru (the Tawny), Krishna (the Black), Shani (the Slow), Pingala (the Tawny). Manda (the Slow), Sauri (the Sun's Son); reverence to that Son of the Sun who, when thus constantly remembered (by these names), removes all Afflictions. May Lord Saturn have mercy on us.
