I like enemies to lovers when done in a very certain way, the idea that one so desperately wants or feels like they have to hate the other but can’t bring themselves to, despite trying to look all those flaws instead of hating them they find themselves falling more and more in love. Only to realize they don’t hate them but they’re scared of something, rejection, what others think, differences. They feel better to hate them yet they feel terrible to hate them. They want each other but something is keeping them from being willing to commit or even try. They want to hate them so they’ll stop loving each other.

I am telling this story from a different angle. If emotion, in this case suffering, is that demon’s food, well… most humans don’t make food that tastes just alike across all 7bn of us. Raw ingredients vary in freshness, colour, flavour, texture, reactiveness. And when people, even other animals eat, they show preference for certain foods or flavours. In my story, everyone’s suffering tastes different, and not all of it is equally appetising, but my demon as found someone whose suffering tastes exquisite to his palate. He’s not even the cause of the suffering, he’s just stalking the other character around like they’re candy laced with crack cocaine.

Demons and monsters that torture people because they feed on human suffering are so dumb. People are suffering everywhere my guy go literally any place and take a deep whiff.

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.

There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.

it's funny whenever i post dinluke i always get comments along the lines of "why do people ship these two they only met once" and its like bestie. babygirl. ok first off it's about the Themes™/dynamics/potential, not how many times they've met in "canon" and 2. when i was a teenager the biggest ship in my favourite fandom was two guys who'd never even interacted and you think its weird people ship two guys that acually met?? in real life canon?? they literally made eye contact, that's like the fanon-shipping equivalent of third base

Writing Ideas: Betrayal Tropes

Bad Samaritan: The villain who acts kind and uses good deeds to lure the heroes into a false sense of security, before turning the tables on them for their master plan.

Black Shirt: Someone who secretly wishes for the enemy to win so they can side with them.

Broken Pedestal: Someone finds out that the person they idolized wasn't quite as heroic and noble as they thought they were.

Dead Person Impersonation: A character impersonates a beloved dead member of another group.

Defecting for Love: A character switches sides due to falling in love with someone of the other camp.

Personal Horror: The one thing worse than being betrayed by others is betraying yourself and your sense of who you are.

Prisoner's Dilemma: Do you cooperate, stay silent and hope your partner doesn't betray you, or do you rat them out and hope they don't do the same to you?

Turncoat: A character that switches sides in order to help out the other side.

Unwitting Pawn: Someone is being manipulated all along and doesn't know it.

Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Manipulating people by pretending that someone hurt you.

These tropes include how characters betray each other's trust

Usually a Plot Twist of some kind (except when it isn't).

Contrast with Trusting and Loyalty tropes.

Victims of betrayal are often motivated to seek retribution against the traitor through revenge.

I am on my knees BEGGING authors to stop promoting their books with tropes or what stories they based theirs off of. I don't care that your story is like a mashup of Aladdin and The Mummy I don't care that the love interest is a morally grey character, WHAT IS THE PLOT

As a 28 year old Star Wars fan, I want to make an uncomfortable perspective known here and see if I’m alone in this? I love Rogue One. I also enjoy Andor. Andor has me hooked with its layered writing and interesting characters. However, am I the only one feeling some concerns with how Rogue One will be “seen differently” as Tony Gilroy and the other actors have stated? Or is anyone kind of feeling off about Cinta’s death in the last episode? Or how about how Bix’s character is being written?

While the writing is well-crafted, exciting, fun, thrilling, and amazing at political commentary — why are most of the women serving as a “trope”?

Why is Tony Gilroy only writing these new female characters….so similarly?

Cinta Kaz - minimal screen time, has a small intimate scene with Val, dies because “bury your gays” cliche/trope. Some character agency is shown but again we don’t really get to know her. REALLY!?

Vel Sartha - some screen time, no real plot after Aldhani besides trauma moments. No real character agency thereafter.

Bix Caleen - decent amount of screen time, mostly being traumatized. Only agency and plot is avenging her trauma. “attractive traumatized female love interest” trope. Her only purpose is Cassian’s narrative and “humanity” and “home” or whatever.

Kleya Marki - Works under Luthen Rael. Finally had a scene and agency these last 3 episodes

Dedra Meero - Works under male ISB. The ONLY character with more agency but of course she is also manipulative, cold, and “using” a “mean well” dumb guy to really hammer home how “evil” she is because what she is doing isn’t evil or psychotic enough to the viewer….so kinda serves for Syril’s character to possibly have a redemption arc or pity story oh how men can be tricked into fascist things because inadequacy…..blah blah blah not about her character once again because she isn’t given enough with all these other male characters ordering her around. Whatever.

If you take ANY of these women out of the story compared to Nemik, Sloan, Luthen Rael, etc. NOTHING REALLY CHANGES THE STORY. The male characters move the plot. The women do not. They’re condensed to trauma porn.

The only reason Mon Mothma has more agency is because her character was already established setting up the rebellion. Tony Gilroy didn’t create her character so she doesn’t count.

On to Rogue One — my biggest fear is that they will pull “Cassian basically sees himself in Jyn because she enters the story where he was XX years ago in Andor.” — like NO. That wasn’t their dynamic in Rogue One. Jyn’s character/story would then be resold as a reflection of Cassian’s story. The viewer will now see Cassian as the catalyst and main drive for Rogue One when it was supposed to be HER. DAMN. MOVIE. Jyn’s character’s personality was written and all the different plots she had — SHE was the catalyst. The spark. The energy. The glue. It Jyn’s story of survival and taking agency back into her life. Cassian always had that offered to him in comparison. Jyn is NOT a parallel.

The last thing I want to remind everyone is that Star Wars usually caters to a “young male” audience. They’re pretty open about it. However, Jyn Erso is my catalyst too. I want better from male writers. We should expect it too.

Either way, I enjoy Andor but you can REALLY TELL it was written by a white man.

btw if anyone is curious - because I am very passionate about this (and have actually made a list of this before) - the list of characters in The Titan's Curse at camp half-blood is:

Approximately 13 campers, including - Percy, Thalia, Silena, "a few" Aphrodite kids (one or two & presumably including Laurel), Beckendorf, two unnamed Hephaestus kids, about two or three unnamed Ares kids (presumably including Jason), the Stoll brothers, and Nico.

Also, about thirteen Huntresses, which includes but is not limited to: Zoë Nightshade, Bianca, Phoebe, presumably also Naomi.

The "Currently away" group is Annabeth (kidnapped), Clarisse (on a quest), and Chris (going insane in the labyrinth).

Everybody else is summer-only (such as Castor and Pollux, Lee Fletcher and Michael Yew, or the entire Demeter cabin) or hasn't joined CHB yet (such as Will, Austin, and Kayla). That's it! That's everybody! Cause TTC actually goes out of it's way to explicitly tell us that and give us a whole list! Which is really cool to me personally.
