The In Between

He opened his eye. Only the brown one. The other, the white one, was too sensitive to the light. His head was laid in a rock; it ached. His whole body was wet. It had rained. Finally, he stood up. His shirt was dirty but he didn’t mind that; he didn’t have time. They were coming. He could hear them; see their signs. He started to walk but before he reached the second step, he stopped. Not because he wanted to but because the memories had him. He could see. He could remember. They were all cheerful in the cabin. All of them. Laughing. He was too. The next moment there was no laughter anymore. They were scared, running away from the cabin. He couldn’t remember why, but he ran, he was frightened.

He looked back and couldn’t see the rest of them any longer. He couldn’t see the cabin any longer. He heard her scream and there, the memory ended. Back in the present, he took the second step, the third – they were coming for him –, the fourth, it was getting dark, the fifth – they were coming –, he was running again, his head ached more and more each step he took – we are coming for you. He reached for the cabin. He was inside. The scream came back, more voices joined it; they all screamed at once. They suffered, they were in pain, he covered his head with his hands. He felt something wet; his hands were all covered in blood, his body as well, but it wasn’t his blood. It was everybody else’s. He tried to scream, too, but he couldn’t. He could only hear, ‘sorry’, his only thought. He heard a noise from outside – they are here, they are here for me.

He got out of the cabin all of a sudden and he ran. He remembered to look back and he realized the others were not with him. He heard the scream, many screams, coming from many directions. He ran until he had no more strength. He ran until he fell. His head went straight into a rock and it started to rain. Soon it was dark. When he woke up, his head ached and his whole body was wet. He got up and tried to walk; he stopped.

the funniest thing for me maybe about Rita being blackmailed into harry's interview is that like. if wizarding Britain had the Pulitzer prize (unlikely) she would win the wizard Pulitzer for that. it makes her respectable. it makes XENO LOVEGOOD respectable for like five minutes. the quibbler becomes like a genuinely hard-hitting media outlet people trust! to the point of Luna being kidnapped to silence him (sign of making it). and all because Rita got blackmailed by a fifteen year old. she never has a better scoop and it's the work she's remembered for. Hermione accidentally made Rita skeeter a serious journalist people take seriously.

IS JAMES POTTER A FUCKING BITCH?

James Potter: hero to some, headache to others, and Quidditch Captain to far too many. But the real question is, are we dreaming—or is James Potter actually a fucking bitch?

Exhibit A: The “Quidditch Cockiness.” Even from the warmth of my cozy corner in the Ravenclaw stands (prime nap spot, by the way), I can feel the waves of Potters arrogance radiating off his body like a badly cast warming charm. The victory laps, the hair ruffling, the "casual" winks—it’s all a bit much, don’t you think?

Exhibit B: The Romantic Mysteries. For years, James was all about Lily Evans. But now? Silence. An empty void. Yet, there’s an undercurrent of intrigue. Rumors suggest his heart is set elsewhere—and by “elsewhere”. The few who did know who this was started laughing hysterically. Does this make James less of a bitch? No. If anything, it makes him a sneaky bitch.

Exhibit C: The Pranks. As a someone in the House of Hypnos, I appreciate subtlety and peace. James Potter appreciates neither. From the fire-breathing chocolate frogs incident to the time he convinced Peeves to sing “God Save the Queen” during breakfast, his antics are relentless. Funny? Maybe. But it’s also the behavior of someone who desperately wants everyone awake enough to notice them. (James, as the lovely Taylor Allison Swift said “ITS 7:00 AM!”)

Final Verdict: James Potter is undeniably talented, frustratingly charming, and unavoidably a bitch. But in the realm of gods and mortals, this is actually very useful, though there are other ways to go about this.
