But then he teams up with Batwoman, and then Bunker, and then becomes a teacher at Lex Luthor's school for potential supervillains so it sort of tapers off again.

Listen, I’ve read a lot of stranger things Steve/Eddie fic the last few months. A lot. And I cannot believe the amount of times I’ve read either of them, or the kids, yelling, “Oi!” Just. Stop. I don’t care if you don’t get a beta reader but please, for the love of gob, please get whatever the opposite of a Brit-pick is. Americ-pick? Idk. I can’t take it anymore. American’s don’t say “Oi!” Ever. The equivalent would be “hey!” I can handle “mum” or an extra “u” in a word, but “Oi” is the quickest way to take someone out of a fic. HEY!

I'm currently suffering from a fic hangover. I slammed this badboy yesterday and cannot get it out of my head. I'm aware this is the worst time to rec anything on tumblr because tags or whatever but I'm doing it anyway. I've thought about sharing more fic recs because I've been reading like crazy lately so here's my first. More to come, probably.

LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL by allacesandeights~87k. Tim Drake/Jason Todd. Jason POV.

Jason always thought that Gotham was hell. Now he has proof. When the God of Death arrives in Gotham, Jason and the Outlaws come up with a plan to take him down. When their plan brings them into contact with the Titans, Jason ends working with his Replacement. As Jason and Tim get closer, Jason has to figure out whether he can ever move past their history.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT The pacing is excellent; a great balance of action, story movement without any drag. I could actually follow the fight scenes and visualize what was happening, which is refreshing.

While it is action packed, there are enough breaks that fit naturally and give the boys time together that's needed for their character and relationship growth. I personally really love the characterizations. Jason is an ass without being too much and Tim holds his own. He isn't written in that way that seems to diminish him to the "weaker" one, which I've seen a lot in this pairing.

HURT/COMFORT/WHUMP LEVEL Solid 7: some blood, concussions, broken/sore ribs, one fixing up the other's injuries.

WHITE STREAK Yes, Jason has the white streak in his hair. The Streak is important to me and I shall now track it in fic.

RECCER NOTES I’m guessing one of the reasons this fic doesn’t have thousands of kudos is because it’s RHATO comics instead of post-crisis. I’m still new to this fandom but I think I have a pretty good grasp on the universes/timelines/whatever now. While I agree that post-crisis canon, and thus fic, is superior, don’t let that keep you from reading this story. I’ve only recently started reading RHATO but I think this story captured their team dynamics really well and makes me want to go read more.

The author is from the UK and I don't believe it was beta'd, so there are several UK-isms that can take you out of it. I just ignored them but it was also kind of fun to see Jason yelling "Oi!" at someone... that feels in character in a weird way.

If you can get beyond that, it's worth the read!

Do the comics actually count Duke as one of the Wayne brothers or is that just in my head? Or inconsistent?

Duke is definitely considered one of the siblings! He hasn't been officially adopted by Bruce (yet), but the batkids (and Bruce) have acknowledged Duke as their brother plenty of times, and vice versa.

Here is Jason casually referring to Dick, Tim, Damian, and Duke as his brothers, which makes my heart explode every time I see it.

And here we've got a portrait of all of Bruce's sons, Duke included, which not-so-subtly implies that he's become part of the family regardless of blood or adoption. (Which is weird, because Cass has been around longer and yet it's still not confirmed whether she's gone back to being considered Bruce's daughter and the batboys' sister yet. My perfect world would have Duke and Cass both explicitly acknowledged as being Bruce's children and the batkids' siblings, it would make me so happy.)

There's also an instance of Duke calling Cass "sis" in the Outsiders series, which—sure, it could just be a nickname like how guys call each other "bro," but I don't care. I make the rules, and I decide that this is him calling Cass his sister because we need this sibling content. (Honestly their relationship in this series is so cute overall, they're such an amazing duo.)

And then we have this part in Batman #81 when Bruce is talking about Damian's brothers and sisters while explaining this whole plan thing. In this particular scene, the group with Damian consists of Duke, Cass, Tim, Barbara, Helena, and Kate. Duke and Tim are the only boys there aside from Damian, so the "brothers" part is clearly referring to them, which means that Bruce considers Duke and Tim Damian's brothers and his sons. :)

Do the all or any characters in post-crisis remember pre-crisis? And what do they remember in New 52 and Rebirth (and do only heroes remember something or also civilians)?

Post and pre crisis is tricky because some characters made it through relatively unchanged and others had their histories completely rebooted. From the wiki:

"Wolfman and Pérez teamed again to produce the History of the DC Universe limited series to summarize the DCU's new history.[8] Many of DC's characters had their histories rebooted. Wonder Woman's comic was relaunched entirely by Pérez, Wein, and Greg Potter.[41] Superman was first re-envisioned in the limited series The Man of Steel by John Byrne; his comic was retitled The Adventures of Superman to make way for a new Superman series.[8] Batman was minimally affected by the reboot, and his comic was not relaunched. However, he was still given an updated origin, courtesy of Frank Miller.[10] In addition, Wally West replaced Barry Allen as the Flash, the Justice League's roster was changed, and characters DC acquired from other companies, such as Fawcett Publications and Charlton Comics, were integrated into the DCU.[22][42]"

They remembered some stuff (ie: Dick remembers spending years working with Bruce) but some of the events were changed (ie: now he remembers Bruce firing him after getting shot by Joker instead of just leaving).

New52 wasn't the cleanest cut for a reboot. The timeline was different in the new universe so they didn't remember events from the old (at first) however which events happened was somewhat confusing. For example, Dick remembered being Batman to Damian's Robin, but doesn't remember Blüdhaven. Tim was never Robin, so the conflict between him and Damian made little to no sense (and made Tim look petty). Even more confusing were things that directly contradicted one another - the titans supposedly lost their memories of being a team, yet Roy and Kory reminisced about being Titans with Dick over in rhato. Rebirth was a soft reboot intended to bring back more elements from the old continuity that people liked, not necessarily in the form of memories, but could have characters glimpsing past lives - Cass and Steph were shown images of themselves as Batgirls and Steph as Robin, but they didn't get to really remember those lives.

Current status quo is infinite crisis which says everything is canon. Which. Characters have their memories back but that doesn't necessarily mean they're acting like it. Cass and Steph remember being Batgirls now but the way they act in their batgirls title is so far from their original characterizations it makes no sense. Dick remembers being a cop but apparently doesn't remember poverty exists (literally right after being homeless as Ric). So in practice: everything that the people writing the characters have read is canon. Good thing DC writers are known for doing their research and attention to detail /s

also the current robin 2021 run tbh... i think the idea of a tournment and damian grappling with guilt could be fun but the writer cares waaaaaay too much about his ocs to give damian real breathing room

speaking of damian: teen titans 2016 coulda been SO fun if they werent so racist and wanting to make damian a bad guy for caring about immigrants and people of colour lol. i rly loved what few good moments he had with wally, emiko, jackson, and the others.

for marvel... mybe trial of magneto coulda worked if the writers cared about magneto and wanda lol. or x-factor 2020 it had some good ideas but was ruined by the writers weirdness about akihiro and david... like just the racism combined with weird views of bi men lol

34. Which retcon do you hate the most?

for DC, four come to mind:

>Parallax isn't Hal Jordans fault

so if u dont know hal jordan back in the 90s broke down after his city was destroyed by doomsday and he lost many loved ones. as a result he went full on villain (parallax) and ended up destroying most of the green lantern corps and caused the zero hour event

he then was killed and later came back as the hero spectre, basically being a ghost hero and trying to atone for his actions he did in the lowest point of his life

anyways later on geoff johns got the reins and revived Hal and said it wasn't hal's fult at all, he was just possessed by an evil space bug made of fear, the real Parallax.

aaaand i hate that. I hate taking away Hals role in everything and making him a victim. I dont mind the other retcons Geoff Johns did to GL lore--hell i prefer it because he really fleshed things out and added the other colours and explained the weakness to yellow even!--but I think it all could have been done without stripping Hal of any wrong doings or guilt. Its rly lame.

He had his momentts of violence, yes but his anger had a trigger; he wasnt angry all the time, he was a sweet and intelligent kid who loved Bruce a lot and had a rocky relationship with Dick at first but they did eventually get along. He had a few friends, knew the titans, and was well liked by his family.

too many stories stress his violence and impulsiveness and make him out to be a bad person with at least trying to explore why he is that way and sympathsize with him.

not only that but the treating of his death as inevitable or his fault or anything like that frustrates me so fucking much bc the weight of death in the family, of its aftermath and a lonely place of dying, of under the red hood, really hinges on the fact that jasons death was a tragedy, one that shook Bruce like no other. because he lost his child who he loved!!!!!

I am admittedly not up to date on the RHATO (2016) comics and am always open to people providing additional info. However, the change in artist notwithstanding, why is Artemis so much shorter than Jason now? Like I’m willing to (grudgingly) accept changes in muscle mass and her costume, as well as DC’s decision to give her magic hair (I think that’s a thing??), but she was definitely taller at the beginning of the series and it isn’t like she was wearing significant heels or platforms.

DC did it again !!!

In the last Issue of DC Comics “Red Hood and the Outlaws” we got a remake of Diana and Bruce unresolved romance !!!

In the Issue 74 of the JLA serie that started in 1997, Diana kissed Bruce because she knew they would die and never need to face the consequences. In DC Rebirth’s “Red Hood and the Outlaws” Issue 25, Artemis does the same because she didn’t think they will ever see each other again...

Ok... La verdad hace mucho que no leía este comic, perdí el interes y no logro recordar por que...  igual me entro la nostalgia por que sigue siendo mi personaje fav de DC...

Se supone que ahora Jason es un profesor... y se supone que accede a hacerlo para evitar que estos morritos con habilidades metas terminen muertos, como el cuando era Robin (?)... Artemis y Bizzarro vuelven, se pelean con los nenes. Luego se hacen amigos y todos juntos se van a vivir con Ma Gun.... o como se escriba....

Yyy este chico Doom y Bizz van a formar una linda amistad probablemente (?) supongo que esta bien, se me hace algo tierno...

Que Jason sepa la identidad de Kid Flash.... esta bien, tiene sentido por el tiempo que paso trabajando con  Batman. Pero Artemis? ella siempre fue una Outlaw, al menos en rebirth nunca tuvo mucha interacción con Wonder Woman.

Alguna vez mencione que odie heroes in crisis? No mames Jason un accidente es picarle un ojo a alguien, no que lo mates.  La verdad me sentí muy decepcionada de que Jason no reaccionara a la muerte de Roy, entiendo que es un hombre nuevo y mas tranquilo y al menos en el arco antepasado lo pusieron como alguien mas frió y calculador. Pero aqui parece como si no importara el echo de que no solo mato a Roy, si no a muchos otros heroes y luego intento inculpar a Harley y a Booster Y también amenazo a la liga o la trinidad de DC, con mostrar todos lo videos de las terapias de los heroes. ESO TAMBIEN FUE UN ERROR? 

En lo personal me hubiera gustado que lo resolvieran de otra manera, que si haya buscado venganza, partiendo de lo que Jason y Bruce han dicho “Red Hood hace lo que Batman no puede” y que viendo que a la liga dejaba pasar todo lo antes mencionado y lo clasificara como “un accidente” Se dispusiera a hacer lo que Red Hood sabe hacer. que lo buscara o lo casara o lo que sea, una batalla entre un velocista y un murcielago hubiera quedado muy epico. a lo mejor que no lo matara, que viera el arrepentimiento de Wally, por que Roy tambien era su amigo, ambos perdieron a Grayson, no se que buscaran una forma de redencion para Wally y sanacion y aceptación para ambos... maybe lo ue propongo tambien esta muy cutre.. no se... si alguien me esta leyendo me encantaria saber su opinión sobre como sorellevaron Heroes in crisis y la mención ue le hicieron en este cuadro, jajajaja.
