we as fans need to put more actual incest into batcest.

most of the time when i read fics with batcest ships it's "they've never regarded each other as brothers anyway" or "their relationship irrevocably changed while they were away from each other and now they don't see each other as father and son" or "they were never adopted in this au" or "the incestuous nature of their relationship will never be mentioned by anyone or explored in any meaningful way".

where are the fics where the characters see themselves as both siblings/parent and child and lovers at the same time? where one of them had a crush on the other and it never went away even though their relationship transformed into a more brotherly one? where there're complicated family dynamics intertwined with romantic/sexual relationships? where there's slow burn and denial of feelings because of social norms? where there's guilt, anger, horror and other emotions the character experiences when they realize they have very inappropriate feelings for someone?

give me scenarios where siblings have to go undercover as a couple. where they have to share a very small bed and huddle naked for warmth. where they're overcome with an instinctual urge to mate with each other in omegaverse world. where the universe decided they're romantic soulmates despite being perceived by society as father and son. where they find themselves in a fuck or die situation with each other.

i just think it'd make the relationships much more interesting and complex.

i KNEW there was an Elseworlds story i had read where they ended up together!!!! but researching got me NOTHING and i half convinced myself i hallucinated it. i've always made the joke i think it's so funny Tim is the only Robin who's been with all of the Batgirls (Steph in the main timeline, Babs in the Arkhamverse, and Cass in this comic) but when i was trying to find it i doubted myself because i could find NO trace when looking it up, just reference to canon comics where CassTim was heavily implied. damn near gaslit myself.

anyways this whole thing makes me unwell. because i'm of the firm belief Tim could never be happy if he stayed a vigilante his whole life, *especially* if he became Batman. because that is canonically one of his worst fears. it's why i like Tim Drake of Tomorrow (Savior) so much, because it's a personification of those fears and the sort of proof that Tim becoming Batman would set him on a hyper-paranoid overly controlling path he wouldn't come back from. but? the idea that Tim could be happy and healthy as Batman if he was sharing the mantle with Cass? that makes *so* much sense. they represent very different aspects of Batman ('the noble detective' and 'the vengeful knight' pretty aptly display that) and her drivenness and dedication to the Bat as a symbol would be the thing that keeps Tim from falling over that edge. it'd keep him from self-isolating (a thing Tim is known to do when he's falling down a paranoid spiral) and keep him steady. meanwhile he would ground her, make sure she knows she's not alone. that's my only real gripe with Cass as Batman, is that she shouldn't be so alone and 'one man army' the way Bruce is. she needs to keep her support system she worked so hard for. she needs someone to remind her that she's human and treating herself like a weapon 24/7 isn't sustainable, something Tim has tried to get through to her. they're just so good at balancing each other out and DC would never go in the direction of exploring them again, but there was a time it really felt like we were on the cusp of them flourishing as a couple and tbh, i almost feel like we missed out.

Yes I would like to vote. Yes I did vote yes. And yes I am incredibly bitter about the amount of people in the tags and comments saying Babs and Steph aren't really BatFam members.

Like one, the fans at large didn't fight fucking hard to get Babs and Steph as officially recognized as BatFam members.

And two, Jim and Bruce are friends there's no way that baby Babs didn't call Bruce Uncle at least once. Dick//Babs is a Cousin Ship and I will die on that hill.

Ship confession: up to & during the post-OYL hellscape days I kinda liked that Cass-Timmy dynamic set up by their brief teamup in Bludhaven, buuuuut in recent years sundry fan analyses and loads of neat fanworks have shunted me damn firmly toward Cass & Steph being a thing. Especially the repeated near-death visions. Dearly hoping that upcoming solo delves into those two a bit.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who shipped CassTim at the time! Since that was pre-adoption, even people at DC shipped them. In Solo #10 by Damian Scott, the original artist for Batgirl (2000), Cass and Tim were actually a married couple. This is how Scott opens that story:

Add to that the numerous comments Tim makes about Cass' looks in Batgirl (2000), and you definitely have a ship with some canon basis. Of course post-Batgirl (2008) and the adoption it's pretty much not a thing anymore. So don't feel too bad about shipping it before, there was some historical precedent. I would say we were very lucky not to have had to witness it in canon.

Anyway glad you're on the StephCass train now!! Those near-death visions are the stuff of Shakespearean romance, like not once but twice? One time in a bridal carry? Fight for your life? Because you care about everyone? StephCass death visions you will always be famous.

I'm also hoping the upcoming solo has great Steph moments in it! While I love StephCass fluff (a la Batgirls), my favourite dynamic is definitely them in the 2000s. Their insecurities clashing against each other, their falling outs, the love that undergirds all of their conflict - idk they were so complicated back then, I hope the solo restores some of that. Either way I'm so excited for what the solo will hold!

For the life of him, he could not find his favorite hoodie. Tim had searched every drawer, closet, nook and cranny in three safe houses–the Nest included–and the damn thing was nowhere to be found. He'd had it for years; he had picked it up at a music festival he'd visited with the rest of Young Justice (before a villain crashed it). It was two sizes too big at the time, so it still fit, and the GOO FIGHTERS graphic had cracked and faded.

But it was gone. And Tim was this close to a meltdown only his comfort hoodie could cure.

It wasn’t that he never let anyone borrow his clothes. He didn’t like to, but when all kinds of kid vigilantes were in and out of your room and sometimes covered in various fluids (human or alien), they borrowed your clothes. Kon had worn it before he died, and then Tim had worn it, unwashed, for long after it stopped smelling like his cologne and simply stunk. That was a while ago, though. Things were better now. And he liked his showers frequent and his laundry crisp.

Before he'd passed out after last night's patrol, Steph invited him to a late brunch at the local Gotham chain diner Grindstone’s. The Hill location was fairly close to the apartment she shared with Cass, enough so that the rotating cast of teenage servers knew all of their names. Tim was a less frequent visitor, strict as his diet was, but he suspected the staff gossiped about the guy with two girlfriends, or the girlfriends who sometimes brought their boyfriend, or whatever. It was also possible that they simply knew who Tim Drake was.

When he reached the diner, the girls were already there. They dragged him into their side of the booth and smoothed the paper place mats all together. Someone had procured a box of crayons and the beginnings of a very purple and yellow doodle of both Batgirls covered half the local ads. Steph squeezed him under her arm in a headlock because he wasn't going to order fries to share (and Grindstone's had the best cornmeal-coated fries in town), and he found himself face-to-face with the very familiar fabric of Cass's sweatshirt.

How had he missed it?

“That's mine,” he choked out, launching at her across Steph's lap the moment he was out of the headlock. “Where did you get that?!”

Cass blinked at him, a smug little twist to her lips. “You left it.”

No, he distinctly remembered folding it and placing it in his Favored Location in his closet beneath the theater–Oh. Oh, no. He'd worn it to movie night two weeks ago. And then the three of them had gotten a little…distracted, and he'd gone home the next morning in something else. Steph's oversized denim trucker jacket, with the huge pockets, he thought. He'd forgotten all about the hoodie.

“I need it back,” he sniffed. Steph elbowed him in the side. Their server was balancing five plates in her arms and didn't look prepared to handle whatever they were doing. Once he sat up, she spread out their dishes as best she could with the three of them on the same side of the table. Steph had gotten chocolate chip pancakes, Cass had ordered a cheesy omelet and a plate of corned beef hash, and Tim had gotten his favorites: strawberry-stuffed French toast and the fries he'd been threatened bodily harm over. Shortly after, she returned with a strawberry shake (Steph), an iced hot chocolate with whipped cream and shaved chocolate (Cass), and a frothy cappuccino with pistachio syrup (him). “I've been looking for that for days,” he said, because he wasn't going to let it go.

“Shut up and eat your berries,” Steph said, and cuffed his ear. She scooped some whipped cream off of Cass's drink. Cass simply took a bite of her omelet.

He leaned into Steph, giving Cass his best puppy eyes over her shoulder. “You don't understand,” he whined, “I need it for my health.”

“Bathroom,” Cass said, still with that twinkle in her eye, as she forced them to file out of the booth. When she stood, he noticed the odd fit of her jeans: they were narrowest at the top and too wide for her hips. They were shaped like Stephanie.

He pointed incredulously. “Do any of the clothes you're wearing belong to you?!”

Cass looked over her shoulder and smirked. “Underwear.” That shut him up. He flopped back in the booth to pick at his food. Steph relayed an engrossing story about her feral poetry professor, and then abruptly stopped. She tapped his shoulder frantically.

“Tim. Ohmigod.”

In front of their table, Cass was standing with the hoodie looped over one arm, but that wasn't the interesting part. She was wearing…well, underwear, he supposed, if one was the conservative sort. It was one of those bodysuits Steph had DM'd him, but he could never parse out if it was a hint for the next gift-giving occasion or if she just wanted to show him hot women in goth lingerie. The bodysuit itself was mostly translucent black, with twisting snakes slithering around the waist and breasts. Cass's stomach was almost bare under the fabric, but an ornate diamond shape clung above her belly button. She was wearing pasties. Tim could feel something very embarrassing happening to him under the table.

“Oh my God, you sexy creature!” Steph squealed. She very openly felt up Cass's waist and twirled around her to appreciate a 360 of the bodysuit (or, Tim thought painfully, what parts of it were visible above her jeans). “Tim! Say something!”

His throat felt dry. This was his punishment from God for asking Cass to take off a hoodie he could mostly live without. “I'm dying,” he said, “you're killing me. You're too beautiful.” It was very possible he would die in this diner crushed between Cass's femme fatale bodice and Steph's ample chest. There were certainly worse ways to go.

Nevertheless, as soon as he had his hoodie back, he threw it over his head and melted into the thick fabric. This time it was scented with Cass and the shampoo she shared with Steph.

Oh. Oh, this brunch was going to be torture.

TimCass is hindered by the fact I don't know a lot of their canon interactions, but I love the idea of Cass exploring what it means to date. Reconciling the way she reads people's body language and knows what they want from her into something she becomes more comfortable with (with certain people). I think a trial run of dating with Tim would be fun and I can see Tim respecting Cass's fighting abilities. I could also take this in a toxic way where they both believe themselves devoted to Batman's mission and forcing themselves together because on paper it makes sense. I might have stronger feelings on this when I read Cass's villain arc 🤔

TimSteph surprised me! I geniunely didn't expect to like it in the comics, but found them to be sweet and flawed teenagers. I like how Tim feels like he has to take care of Steph and how Steph wants to prove herself. I like the messiness of Steph not knowing Robin was Tim at first and the complicated feelings of their break up. I honestly wouldn't mind if after a break they did their own growing up and they ended back up together (maybe not in canon though, bc I feel like canon ruins a lot of good relationships) It's not a ship I have strong feelings for but I enjoy it

BruJay is delicious! I particularly love the unrequited variety, whether it's Jay having complicated feelings for Bruce and Bruce rejecting him, or if it's Bruce who wants Jason sexually and Jason wants to be Bruce's son but will take whatever attention he can get. Or when they both don't want a sexual relationship but think that's what the other wants from them so they give in. I don't actively seek it out, but I will eagerly devour it when it's there

It feels weird doing this, but I figure it can't hurt. My dog Ember took quite the tumble playing fetch a couple weeks ago and tore her ACL. According to the surgeon, it's a fairly common injury for dogs, so the recovery rate and prognosis is good. But her surgery is going to cost $4500.
