Re reading the original hunger games is so funny bcus katniss can literally read haymitch's mind like what. I'm dying of thirst but haymitch hasn't sent me water, that must mean that there's some nearby!! And one kiss is one pot of broth!! Like she even acknowledges that it's strange when she's like oh to peeta this would just be a pot of broth. Haymitch will give her one look and katniss knows immediately what he means and she's right every time

“why do you ship them? I thought the ship wasn’t canon?” bro we’re talking about fictional characters, who don’t actually exist in real life, from a media that focuses solely on fictional events that are not real either. so what if these two made-up characters didn’t kiss in their source material? they have lots of nasty gay sex on archive of our own and thousands of novel length slow burn enemies to lovers fics written about them. the fanon content at this point far exceeds the whole canonical franchise. the problem isn’t “it’s not canon” the problem is that you don’t allow yourself to let go of canon and enjoy the wonder of fan contents that are just as good / valid

it’s unfortunate that (some) people in fandom spaces are starting to get too comfortable complaining and being rude to writers and artists who create contents they personally don’t like (“why are you making this character a top when he’s obviously a bottom? omg do you even understand his character?” “I’m so sick of seeing fan art and fanfic where this character is portrayed as a sadist when he’s actually misunderstood in my opinions, therefore anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and should be shamed” just to name a few I’ve seen) instead of curating their own fandom experiences by engaging only with contents they do like.
you want more fics where (x) is written in this specific way? either write one yourself or politely expressing your opinion about how you hope there will be more fics where (x) is written in this specific way instead of making fandom a toxic place by being rude to writers and artists who dare make contents that are not to your Personal Liking.
if the universe does not revolve around you, strangers and fandom spaces don’t have to cater exclusively to your personal preferences either.
to all my beloved writers and artists, write whatever you want, draw whatever you want. portray that character in whichever way you want to portray. I hope you have fun doing what you love. don’t let anybody tell you what you can or can’t do with the blorbo. go wild. I will always support you

Some personal design notes I made for comics speech bubbles and on dialogue!
Conclusions were drawn from their dialogue sounds and manner of speech in general in addition to my personal flair and interpretation.
And here's an incomplete list of mental notes on actually writing dialogue for characters:
Curly
expresses genuinely what he feels and what he means, though he's reserved and leaves a lot unsaid
casually playful and whimsical when talking to others or commenting on things
smooth talker
speaks delicately and de-escalatory when faced with a stressful situation
using british slang on occasion, yeah?
Anya
often encouraging or reassuring those she talks to
teasing, witty and playful with anyone not named jimmy
stutters when speaking to those named jimmy but outside of that, speaks smoothly with enthusiasm
speaks with implications, basically says iconic deep meaningful shit in a non-direct way
Swansea
mean, harsh, sarcastic and taunting
like anya, he says some deep shit but in a poetic and direct way
reminds me of Disco Elysium dialogue in terms of vibes
speaks grandiosely
" ain't, goin', el capitano, downstairs longnose, hear hear, ol' codger, rumb-a-tumblin' " very fun to write
Daisuke
unfocused, emphasizes words, informal
speaks at the same time as he thinks, most of his dialogue feels like a stream of thoughts
filler words like, totally like everywhere man
Jimmy
dry, spiteful and bitter remarks, always sounds like he's annoyed at everything
no whimsical or heartfelt comments about anything
uses metaphors and veils his words, spinning them in ways to fit his goals. twists his own words as well as others'
steals phrases from others

my favorite scene in all of literature is when Neil Josten wakes up in Columbia after being drugged, hurls an alarm clock at Aaron, dumps his water on the floor and throws the cup at Aaron, stuff his clothes down the toilet and squeezes out through the window, has the foresight to call Matt from a pay phone to protect his shit, hitch hikes back to campus, eyes back to brown?? shows up on Wymack’s door like 😜 and reveals he could speak German the whole time?? CHARACTER OF ALL TIME, that is a protagonist who knows how MOVE THE MFING PLOT ALONG
#My dad always told me one of the most important things about writing#Is that your protagonist needs to be the one driving the plot lol#like Neil really mfing does that#He gets the plot moving and when it does it HAULS ASS#One of the most beautiful things about tfc#Is that Nora creates the most insane world and as a reader your like??😂 wtf#But then she writes a character who is perfectly suited to deal with that insane world#it’s so endlessly satisfying to read. I used to write a bunch for MUDs, and a few years ago, I decided I wanted to try making my own game. I started as a writer/QA/project management for my first few game jams because I was struggling to create something fully on my own.
This hybrid “help as needed” role let me get hands on experience and showed me a deeper look behind the scenes of how games are made, without being overwhelmed by all the setup needed to get my hands in the mess – I had previously been daunted by the basics of just setting up engines and SDKs and CLIs and virtual environments and all that stuff.
This was the result from the first game where I did design/heavy writing focus and no code: https://misc-mike.itch.io/bookworm
We had envisioned something impressive with the player changing the story, but as development continued we learned about scoping and timelines: our coder ran out of time, so I focused on finding us public domain images and twisting together a concept of a thing that would work with the functions we had coded. The result is kinda cute.
From there, I tried out making my own games using a range of different engines which focused on text-heavy development:
Twine: webdev (eg CSS, html) for interactive hypertext
Choicescript: uses very basic scripting for interactive cyoa novels
Ren’Py: uses python for visual novels
Quest and QuestJS: for text adventures
Adventuron: designed to teach children how to code via making text adventures

The constant rolling disaster that is Overwatch's game development aside, what really perplexes me about how Blizzard is handling the broader franchise is their continual insistence that a canon narrative exists in spite of their equally continual refusal to tell anyone what it is.
Like, okay, the events of the games aren't canon. Fair enough: the games are multiplayer-only, and you can't account for player actions.
Oh, and the animated short films aren't canon either – they're properly understood as in-universe propaganda, not depictions of actual events. That's a little high concept for you guys, but fine.
But surely the comics are canon, right? Well, no; some of the comics (we're not telling you which ones) were canon at one point, but the writing team has decided to go in a different direction.
My dudes, what is left? The weird Source Filmmaker porn? Is that canon? Well, apparently it's at least as canon as anything else!
