A father's appeal for his children's peace
Imagine a world where instead of raindrops falling from the sky, bombs rain down, and instead of soothing lullabies, the sound of warplanes fills the air. This is the harsh reality for my children, Lama (8) and Hussam (5), and their soon-to-be-born sister. We live in Gaza, a place where hope seems to fade away.
I'm Hamdi, their father, and I feel the heavy burden of ensuring a better future for them.
War has taken away my job, our home, and the very essence of our existence. We now live in makeshift tents, sharing what little we have in this besieged land. Yet, amidst all the destruction, my wife's pregnancy brings a glimmer of hope.
Her growing belly symbolizes hope in this bleak environment, but I can't help but worry about the world we're bringing our child into.
Friends in Egypt have offered us a chance to escape this nightmare, but the path to safety is blocked by a daunting barrier: the border crossing demands $5,000 for each life to pass through.
I plead with you, don't let my children become victims of war.
Your contribution, no matter how small, could be the key to unlocking a future free from fear and filled with opportunities.
Your assistance could mean the difference between life and death for my family. With your help, we can secure safe passage out of Gaza and begin the journey toward a better future. A future where peace and prosperity prevail.
Thanks for your support, and I'm grateful for any help you can give me during this difficult time.

The skateboarding scene in Palestine is one of our most unique yet powerful forms of protest and resistance against the illegal Israeli occupation. Skateboarding in Palestine is far more than a sport or hobby; it is a form of resistance and empowerment. Riding a skateboard might seem like a simple act - but to Palestinians, it is a way to express their identity, defy oppressive forces, and reclaim agency over their bodies, land, and rights to movement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Skateboarding in Palestine first gained popularity in the early 2000s in the West Bank. Palestinian skaters took matters into their own hands, constructing makeshift skate parks in abandoned buildings and empty lots. These spaces became more than recreational areas; they became symbols of empowerment and resistance for Palestinian youth. This act was a unique form of protest by allowing Palestinians to reclaim public spaces that were often damaged due to the occupation forces. In a land where movement is restricted and access to certain areas is limited, Palestinian skaters transformed overlooked spaces into vibrant skate parks. The act of reclaiming these spaces was a way to peacefully assert their right to challenge the limitations imposed upon them when it came to the use of public areas. Palestinians will not be confined or silenced by the occupation, and skateboarding is one of the many ways this sentiment is showcased.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Organizations and initiatives, such as SkatePal, have played a crucial role in supporting and developing the skateboarding scene in Palestine by building skateparks, providing equipment, and offering lessons. Initiatives like this create a safe space for young Palestinians who are often forced to give up a lot of their childhood joy to the occupation. Skateboarding fosters a much needed sense of community that Israel has tried to stifle for decades. Palestinian skaters also participate in global competitions and events to showcase their skills on an international stage!! This raises awareness about their ongoing struggles and, more importantly, their unwavering resilience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Skateboarding serves as a means for Palestinians to express their identity and existence. In a genocidal, oppressive state, where freedom, creativity, and individuality are often suppressed, the act of skateboarding itself becomes a powerful statement of resistance against the occupation. It visually represents qualities that are intrinsic to the Palestinian spirit. Skateboarding empowers Palestinian youth by providing them control over their bodies and movement in their land.
In Palestine, skateboarding is not just a sport - it is a culture of reclaiming ownership, fostering confidence, independence, and resilience.

Today marks the 17th of April, which is Palestinian prisoner day…
on such an occasion we wish for all of our innocent and beloved detainees and prisoners who have been put (without a charge, or because of wrongful and false accusations) inside the occupation’s prisons to very soon be released, to be able to experience life between us as it is and to gain back their freedom that they have been deprived from for months, if not even years or decades.
we wish that in a few years, when it is again the 17th of April, we’ll be looking back at this day and date in a Free Palestine while telling these stories of detainment and imprisonment as something of the past that will never bother us or come upon our lives to ruin them ever again.
on this day, we wish for the mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, daughters, sons, grandchildren and friends of those imprisoned to have endless amounts of patience, faith and hope until their loved ones are released.
الحرّية لأسرى الحرّية 🍉
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Historical Context : The Palestinian National Council chose April 17 as Palestinian Prisoner’s Day in 1974 because it was the date that Mahmoud Bakr Hijazi was released in the first prisoner exchange between Israel and Palestine in 1971.

what are your favorite things / aspects about both your Palestinian and your Lebanese culture / identity ?
oh man thats hard... id probably have to say the hospitality and giving and just community-ness. im definitely not as connected to lebanese culture as i am palestinian but thats something i just really really love about both cultures.
my mom is always telling me to invite my friends over and asking what they like to eat. when i was visiting my aunt for the first time, i needed to borrow some blush and my aunt just like straight up gave me hers without any second thought. once i visited my cousin to help her with homework and she served me dinner and tea before even opening her laptop. ive started taking homemade desserts to the office just cause i really enjoy to feed people like my mom. once my teenage cousin was visiting us and every single time i took her out my dad would whisper "dont let her pay for anything", but then my uncle would try to hand me cash once we were back.
its not just with objects or money either. need help moving? want to learn how to cook something? tips for getting a job? dont have a ride?
i know this isnt a specifically palestinian or lebanese thing, or even an exclusively arab thing, but it really is one of my favorite things about my culture <3

one thing id like to know:: food and snacks you live off on?
for food i truly do live off on tabbouleh, halloumi salad and fattoush (or any type of mediterranean salad for that matter)
as well as any traditional dishes from Palestine or any other country from the Levant region because they never fail to impress me with how delicious they are (such as Kibbeh, Mujaddara, shish barak, grape leaves, Maqloubeh, Musakhan and the list goes on…)
and i love to snack on any type of fruits! i really am not picky at all with fruits or food in general (except for kiwis tough, because even though they’re delicious they sometimes give me a slight stomach ache)

“The bodies fall but ideas endure”
- Ghassan Kanafani
When I say there are things that Israel will never ever take away from Palestinians I also mean the way the fight for Palestine is ingrained into every aspect of our lives, down to even the names we give our children who come decades and decades after our initial Nakba.
For example, Bisan is a very popular girls name in Palestine and it is the name of a Palestinian city that was depopulated by Israel in 1948. Girls with names like Bisan, Yafa and Jenin may not have seen these cities yet, but they carry them within them regardless.
Also, many Palestinians can identify with how our aunts and uncles have symbolic names such as A'ed or A'eda which mean returnee. These names were not chosen arbitrarily by our grandparents who were forced to raise their families in refugee camps. Similarly, there are names like Thaer (revolutionary), Bassel (courageous) and Nidhal (revolutionary struggle) that are very common to this day.
We are literally walking around carrying notions of Palestine and our struggle with us and planting the seeds of resistance within our children, we must be so frustrating!

for the one thing id like to know,,, what is your #1 comfort media? (i didn't know quite how to word this lol, but like, a movie/show/book/etc)
That’s actually a great question,
i feel like i find comfort in all of the things you listed but for comfort movies i’d say :
The Lion King, because i watched it a lot as a kid so it’s very nostalgic
Arna’s Children, because the story is just beyond belief and truly super interesting
Forrest Gump, because i love the unique storyline and i also loved the narration
Bullet Train, went into this movie with no expectations but was really surprised with how much i was enjoying it
Salt of This Sea, because it’s quite different from other Palestinian movies with a nice and not so complicated storyline
And as for shows i’d say :
Friends, because i rewatched it so many times and it actually helped improve my English a lot and i relate to some of the characters… i stopped rewatching it when i found out the actors are pro zionism tho :(
How I Met Your Mother, i love the connections between all of the characters and the show in general gives me a sense of nostalgia to a life that i never had and to a place that i’ve never been to
Paranormal, one of the very few Middle Eastern shows that i watched and found genuinely very entertaining and enjoyable
Cunk on Earth, watched it last year when it went viral and it was so worth it
As for books, i think that the last question i answered (which was about my favorite books) sums it up pretty well

i think one initiative that could be great to donate to (other than individual go fund me links) is esims for gaza since it helps the people who are inside gaza and are in need of constant internet connection such as journalists and aid workers etc…
Best Pali orgs to donate to at this time? Am thinking PCRF.
don't donate to orgs right now, donate to people. gazans need huge funds to evacuate to egypt, get treatment, buy food and other necessities. it is the most urgent and the best way your money can have the most impact.
here is fundsforgaza linktree full of verified gofundmes you can choose from
here is the operation olive branch spreadsheet full of gofundmes organized by different factors such as families, age, number of children, medical conditions as well as how close they are to meeting their goal etc

In commemoration of his memory, I recommend watching this interview made by Al-Mayadeen with his wife Anne Kanafani, who lets us on details about his life and the day of his unfortunate passing.
May his soul rest in peace and power 🤍
PS. The interview is in English with Arabic subtitles !!

Happy birthday, Ghassan Kanafani! (April 8, 1936)
A famed Palestinian author and revolutionary, Ghassan Kanafani was born in Acre, on the Mediterranean coast. His father was a lawyer opposed to the British occupation of Palestine, and when the Nakba came in 1948, his family was forced into exile. Kanafani’s family settled in Damascus, where he completed his education and became a teacher. At the University of Damascus, he met Palestinian radical George Habash, who became a great political influence on Kanafani, who joined Habash’s Arab Nationalist Movement. In 1967, now a committed Marxist, he joined the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, becoming a key party ideologue and spokesperson. He produced a celebrated body of revolutionary literature and fiction, including Men in the Sun, What’s Left to You, and Return to Haifa. In 1972, Kanafani was assassinated by the Mossad in a car bombing in retaliation for an attack on Lod Airport by the PFLP and Japanese Red Army.
“The Palestinian cause is not a cause for Palestinians alone, but a cause for every revolutionary, wherever he is, as a cause of the exploited and oppressed masses in our era.”

It has been confirmed that the 1st day of Eid will be this Wednesday, so to all my fellow muslims out there, Eid Mubarak and may Allah accept your good deeds that you did throughout the month of Ramadan and i hope that you made the most out of it spiritually, religiously, socially, mentally & physically etc…
I hope that you did not forget to pray and make dua’a for the people of Gaza, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and all oppressed people around the world, and i wish that you continue to pray for them even after Ramadan is over…
This Eid we shall not celebrate as we do each and every year, you can obviously visit your family and friends and gather up to enjoy being around loved ones, but don’t forget that Gazans have no loved ones this year to celebrate with, and even if they do, they’ll be celebrating Eid amidst the rubble and the sound of bombings.
So please, respect people’s grief, be thankful and grateful, and don’t forget the oppressed… let’s continue our fight for Palestinian liberation in any way that we can, and let’s hope to hear news about a ceasefire very soon 🙏

Fundraiser masterpost
This is a masterpost for the evacuation fundraisers I've vetted so far, a few other fundraisers I find trustworthy but have not been able to vet (inability to communicate with the organizer), and a few semi-completed fundraisers or fundraisers for a different purpose (like house rebuilding, or aid distribution). The numbers next to the names have no significance beyond ease of navigation for me for when I check their progress in the future. You should look at the disclaimers instead and focus on those. Occasionally I will update these with new info, including new fundraisers, and the amount of cash that's been raised. Check in regularly on the original post when you see it being reblogged. In all likelihood once its reached you it's already outdated. Also please don't overlook the Sustainable Aid options near the bottom! The brain drain is already creating problems but having another way of keeping or creating new knowledge and key members of a functioning society is important.

decolonization presentation
So for context, this is regarding a conversation I had a few weeks ago with one of the cofounders of an international organization that I volunteer at.
I spoke to the cofounder, and we were discussing the Palestinian cause in general, but more specifically the ongoing Gaza genocide.
From our conversation, I understood from her that she as a cofounder of this organization had the means to speak out about Palestine and have the organization and all of its platforms, be a space and a place for raising Palestinian voices, yet as she is not extremely educated on the topic, she does not know where to start or what would be the proper way to advocate for Palestine… (especially that doing so could get the organization into legal trouble because it’s in a European country with very strict pro israel policies and laws)
We agreed on having an online meeting where I create some sort of presentation to educate her on the Palestinian cause, and why it’s historically and morally important to speak out about Palestine and educate her on some of the highlights in Palestinian history, especially modern Palestinian history.
As a Palestinian myself, it is quite hard to pick and choose what are the most important points and bullet points that I should include in this presentation that i’ll be making very soon, so I thought that I should take this to Tumblr to take ideas from everyone on here, because I would also love to hear from non-Palestinian folks that are educated on the Palestinian cause to any degree what they think on how I could educate this individual on the Palestinian cause…
so I need your thoughts and opinions on the following points :
What are the most significant reasons why one should speak out about Palestine from a moral perspective?
What are the most important historical events in Palestinian history that I should mention besides the 1948 Nakba?
How do I convince this person of the importance of speaking out about such a humanitarian crisis? (because it’s important to me that they advocate for Palestine because they’re convinced of the importance of this cause, and not only because of me being a Palestinian active member of the organization)
How do I emphasize on the point that speaking out about such a cause is more important than worrying about the criticism that comes with being pro Palestine?
What are some easy-to-understand & informational/educational and preferably short pieces of media that I could recommend to this person so that she would be motivated to learn more about the Palestinian cause?
I would appreciate all & any suggestions by anyone on here wether you’re Palestinian or Non-Palestinian, and if you feel like sending me a message with all of your ideas rather than leaving them in the comments section, please feel free to do so !!
PS. if the meeting with this cofounder is successful, there will probably be another meeting held for me educate other staff members of the organization including the other cofounders, so by contributing to this initiative you’d be making a change in the mindsets of many people who come from various backgrounds and cultures, which means they might also spread that awareness and knowledge in their own wider social circles, and that way your contribution doesn’t stop only at changing 1 person’s way of viewing the Palestinian cause :)

Tumblr media
Throwback to this shop I passed by in the old city of Jerusalem and tbh they're not wrong!
