LNS : Running Man Season 2

Episode 01 - The Warm-Up Race (EP01S02)

Set in a world where K-pop is a porn industry and porn itself is way lenient for public consumption. Celebrities flashing their assets on national TV channels is a common view.

Snowy outside, but there was a warm wooden cabin filled with SBS staff. Jongkook was the first one to come, and he went straight to put on his mic. Alone, for now, he stood in front of numerous cameras. Not long after, Haha and Jaesuk entered. Jaesuk teased Jongkook about how thin his clothes were since it was summer, but Jongkook also teased them for wearing clothes too thick. Jihyo, Somin, and Seokjin came together with Somin wrapping Jihyo’s left arm while Seokjin walked behind them. And, the last one to come was Kwangsoo.

Jongkook and Jaesuk argued again. Jaesuk told him that he dressed properly for the weather and threw Seokjin under the bus since he dressed the thickest. He asked how many layers Seokjin had. The oldest couldn’t say anything except say he was old now and couldn’t handle winter like he used to.

Just like usual, for the opening, they were standing together in front of the cameras–from left to right: Jihyo, Somin, Seokjin, Jaesuk, Jongkook, Haha, Kwangsoo. As the MC, Jaesuk warmed up the situation by updating them about the members’ lives.

When he thought it was enough, Jaesuk officially opened the show. He began by asking the members to greet the viewer.

All members: “Annyeonghaseyo viewers!”

Seokjin: “Don’t walk, run!”

Haha:“(Laugh) That’s our old slogan! You still remember. Respect!“

Seokjin looked proud. Somin and Haha teased him.

Jaesuk: “It’s been a while, but we are here after a long break with the second season of Running Man. Just like we know, our show airs quite late at night. The first person that worries me is Kwangsoo.”

The members gave a small laugh, and Kwangsoo was ready to protest.

Kwangsoo: “Waeeeee???”

Jaesuk: “That brat, we know how dirty he plays when our rating is under 12. Now, our show is 18+ in rating, he will be more disgusting.“

Kwangsoo: “Aniyo~ I’m not like that anymore.“ He smiled suspiciously at his camera.

The rest of the members nodded.

Jaesuk: “Without further ado, let’s introduce our new member: Kangjeon!“

A tall flower boy entered the frame. He was tall but not taller than Kwangsoo. At first glance, he looked introverted, and Jaesuk understood because it was his first variety show and a fixed member on top of that. Everyone showered him with applause. Somin was hopping like a bunny. Kwangsoo showed his disgust at her excessive reaction.

Kwangsoo: “I hate it when she shows that face.”

Somin: “Waeee? What’s wrong with my face, oppa!”

After the new member stood between Jaesuk and Jongkook, he hadn’t even introduced himself. Everyone was teasing Somin, and he waited.

Jaesuk: “Alright, Kangjeon-ah, please introduce yourself to the viewers.“

Kangjeon: “Annyeonghaseyo, I’m Kangjeon. I will do my best.“

Seokjin: “Too stiff, too stiff.”

PD: “Welcome to the second season of Running Man. We actually have prepared a simple race for our first episode, but we scrapped it due to the bad weather.”

Jongkook: “Too bad.”

PD: “So, we plan another race, a simple one. Since it has been a long time since the first season and we have a new member here, we will have a race named WARM-UP RACE!”

The members were keenly listening to the direction.

PD: “We will have three rounds. Everyone except the top three from each round will get a running ball. The amount depends on your standing: 4th place, 1 ball; 5th place, 2 balls, and so on. At the end of the race, we will do a lottery and two members will be punished. The winner will be decided by whoever has the fewest balls.

“As for the prize, the winner will get a name tag made of gold.”

Haha’s eyes looked sparkling when the PD showed them a case with a Running Man name tag made of gold in it.

Kangjeon: “Is that real gold?”

Seokjin: “It is. We often used gold in the past as prizes.”

Jihyo: “Woah, you spent a lot on the first episode.”

Seokjin: “I can’t sell it, can I?”

Jaesuk: “Wae? Hyung, are you in debt? (Joking tone)”

Somin: “Is your stock failing you?”

PD: “Shall we go for the first round?”

The PD interrupts them at the right moment.

Jaesuk: “What are we playing?”

Kangjeon: “ENTWISTED?”

PD: “You will play Twister. In a tournament format, you will have a one-on-one. Whoever makes their opponent fall is the winner.”

TRIVIA! Twister is a game where you are challenged to put your hands and feet at different places on the mat without falling over.

PD: “We aren’t using spinners. The opponent should call the desired spot himself. We have decided on the pairs through the lottery.”

The PD showed the pairs on a board:

First match: Jihyo vs Kwangsoo

Second match: Seokjin vs Kangjeon

Third match: Jongkook vs Jaesuk

Fourth match: Somin vs Haha

The Twister mat was placed, and the first match began right away. Kwangsoo and Jihyo dressed quite thickly. Playing Twister in such thick clothes would be hard. To help them win, they took off a lot of their clothes and left only their shirt and trousers. Visibly, Jihyo’s nipples are poking. Her personal camera didn’t miss the chance and zoomed in on them. At ease, Jihyo put his left foot on the first green spot from her side. Jongkook commented that Kwangsoo’s attack was weak.

Jihyo: “Left foot on red.”

Unlike Jihyo, Kwangsoo took a big step. His left foot stepped on the third red spot from his side. He put his right foot on the outer edge of the third green spot. After securing his standing, Kwangsoo attacked right away.

Kwangsoo: “Right hand on blue.”

There was nothing wrong with the call until Jihyo did it. Since Jihyo wasn’t flexible, her hand couldn’t reach the second spot. It was either the third or fourth. Jihyo decided to put her hand on the third blue spot.

Then, in the third match, Jongkook vs Jaesuk. Jongkook’s strategy was to block Jaesuk’s way. When the match began, he jumped and put his foot on the second blue spot from Jaesuk’s side. In the end, Jongkook won.

The fourth match, Somin vs Haha. Somin’s left spot was green while Haha's was red.

Somin: “Haha-oppa, let’s play it humanely.”

She clearly worried that Haha would play as shamelessly as Kwangsoo. But he was worse.

By the time the first game was over, Jongkook came as the winner. Kangjeon was the runner-up. Haha had a match with Jihyo for third place. Even though he played as dirty as he played Somin, Jihyo was able to beat him. The rest was decided by rock-paper-scissors.

After the first game, the members had a half-hour break. They waited for the next game in the room next to where they shot while the staff prepared for it.

PD: “Alright, everyone. Please come.”

Running Man members came from the room where they rested. They returned in front of the camera in different positions–from left to right: Kwangsoo, Kangjeon, Somin, Seokjin, Jaesuk, Haha, Jihyo, and Jongkook.

Just like before, Jaesuk opened the section once again, but shorter.

Jaesuk: “Kangjeon is so chatty, but he turned introvert in front of the camera.”

Seokjin: “He is an actor. He needs to keep his image.”

Kangjeon: “I’m just shy.”

Jaesuk: “So, what are we gonna play?”

PD: “The second game is WHITE WALKER. It’s basically a zombie game.”

Jongkook: “Zombie? Ah, ‘white walker’.”

Seokjin: “What? You know something.”

Jongkook: “It’s the name of the zombie from Game of Thrones. Geurae! We are in winter.”

Haha: “I bet Seokjin didn’t know Game of Thrones.”

Somin: “He only watches his stock.”

Jaesuk: “And he still red (Seokjin slapped Jaesuk’s left shoulder.)”

PD: “Let me explain the game. The game area will be this room, with the staff area as the border. Everyone will have a turn as a zombie while the rest will be human. You get a point if you can make a human say something, and the human will get 2 points if he/she could survive. The humans will be given time to hide. After that, the light will be turned off. The humans and the zombies must fight in the darkness.”

Jongkook: “So, I will be out if I make a sound from my mouth.”

PD: “That’s right. As a zombie, you need to try your best to make them make a sound.”

Jongkook: “I can just break their bones.”

The staff laughed at Jongkook’s joke.

Kwangsoo: “He said a scary thing again.”

PD: “Every round will last five minutes. Please try your best. Then, for the first round. The zombie is… Kangjeon.”

Kangjeon: “Ok!”

The maknae was directed to stand in the middle of the area. After shutting his eyes, the other spread. Then, the light was switched off. The windows from the outside were blocked and turned the room pitch black.

A whistling sound from the PD started the game.

Kangjeon: “Oh! It’s so dark. I start now, right?”

PD: “Yes, you can start.”

Blindly, he walked with his hands spread, trying to sniff the other members.

Kangjeon: “Hmmm, I think I heard something here. Who are you? AH!! GOT YOU!”

Beginner's luck, Kangjeon grabbed someone, a male member. He tried to break away, but Kangjeon could overpower him. Judging by the size, Kangjeon knew it was Haha.

Then, the second round began, and the zombie was Jihyo. With the lights being killed, the round began.

PD: “Yes.”

The third game began right away, and it was a name-tag game. All the rules were the same: rip other players' name tags behind their backs to oust them. But, there was a change for today’s race.

All the members were listening to the PD. From left to right: Kwangsoo, Jongkook, Haha, Somin, Jaesuk, Seokjin, Jihyo, and Kangjeon.

PD: “For today’s name tag game, we have a special rule.”

Jaesuk: “What is the rule?”

PD: “Since the sky is clear and warmer, we will play outside. Every player has more than one life, and the number of lives each player has depends on how many clothes she/he wore.”

Jihyo: “What do you mean?”

PD: “Every time you are ousted, you take off anything you wear. If you can still bear the cold and keep playing, you are fine.”

Jongkook: “So, it’s okay if I leave in underwear?”

PD: “If you can hold the cold, then yes. You’ll be sent to jail if you give up or you have no more clothes. To take off.”

Seokjin: “Then, I’m at an advantage. I mean, I’m wearing a lot of clothes right now.”

Jaesuk: “Are glasses counted too?”

PD: “No.”

Somin: “How about earrings?”

PD: “That’s not too.”

There were a lot of questions but the PD handled them well. After that, the members came outside and spread out. The arena was the whole winter resort excluding the building.

Right after the race started, Kwangsoo and Jaesuk allied themself. Together, they planned to take on Jongkook. To do that, it was better to recruit another member. Knowing Kwangsoo’s betrayal nature, there were intense situations, but their alliance remained intact.

Haha’s strategy was to stick to Jongkook. A big clash happened between his group and the Jaesuk group, who came with additional players like Seokjin and Kangjeon. Somin and Jihyo were together, watching from afar while the men were having a duel in the ski area.

At last, the fight happened. Just like usual, Jongkook was a menace. He ripped a lot of name tags, but he was also ousted four times. Since he wore thin layers of clothes, it left him in his pants. Jongkook didn’t want to play a name tag game in winter, wearing nothing but his pants, so he gave up and became the first player who be eliminated.

After the big fight, the alliance was dissolved. They ate each other and even chased Jihyo and Somin. Everything turned chaotic for a while. In the middle of that, Jaesuk gave up after being left only in his t-shirt and trousers. Kwangsoo called him weak because Jaesuk was still looking warm while he was left only in his singlet and trunks.

Then, everything was calmer after a while. Kwangsoo was left with his singlet and trunks; Haha still had his jacket but wearing trunks; Seokjin had his long john under his jeans and had a jacket for his top; Kangjeon had his warm sweater and trouser; Somin who was targeted by the weakling male members was only left in her underwear; and lastly, Jihyo had the same fate with Somin but she was slightly better, having her underwear off but wearing her jacket and pants instead.

Currently, Somin was clinging to Jihyo. They were hiding from the male members. Both were hiding in the small buildings, far from the ski area. Somin had her name tag stuck under her panties.

Jihyo: “Why are you following me?”
