POST GAME || Ruggie Bucchi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wc: 1009 tags: ruggie bucchi, fem!reader only because reader is referenced as a “girl” in a boys locker room, established relationship because i said so, ruggie post game after a win, rugbert is cheeky as always, he also likes kpop because why not, slightly suggestive, never proofread- we type and upload
a/n: i sat for an hour in an unstable mental state after seeing this ruggie bucchi card. yana put her whole ass into this card. me thinks yana has a secret favorite, i mean have you seen ruggie's ssr cards ??? bangers
Tumblr media
You tapped your phone screen once more, checking the time. It had been at least 20 minutes since the spelldrive match had ended and the NRC team had gone back to their locker room. You were trying to be patient, but it was killing you how long your boyfriend was taking. One after one, the team started to leave, but there was no sign of your biscuit brown, tousled-haired beau. You checked your phone one last time before you huffed and pushed past the entrance doors. You made your way past the short hallway of lockers into the open space where only a few team members remained, gathering their gear and belongings. Ruggie sat on the bench in the middle of the room.
He had already taken off his black athletic shirt and was in the process of taking off his cleats. He had music playing from his phone, feeling the rhythm and quietly singing to himself as he unstrapped his knee braces and put them in his bag. You stood there in front of him, hearing the sounds of the other lockers closing and the not so subtle whispers about a girl being in the boys’ locker room as the last of the team left for the night. You rested your hands on your hips and put on your best pouting face for him to see when he finally acknowledged you standing there. You watched as he continued to take his time removing each of his things and tucking them away in his bag. He softly changed his gaze to look at you, raised one eyebrow and grinned as he sang to you. “Baby, you a gangster, got my hands tied. Fallin’ for you deeper girl, I can’t lie. So sweet, like honey, honey.~ ”
“Ruggie, come on. It’s getting late and I want to go back to the dorms. It’s already cold and I’m tired,” you whined, grabbing his hand and tugging on it. “Honey, Honey, Honey, workin’ for you like a bee. Buzzin’ for you baby, baby. Tell me what you need. What you need, ha, you can say please,” he continued to serenade you with a look that on normal occasions would have you melting, but not at this moment. You dropped his hand harshly and lightly pinched one of his ears. “Hey, hey, those are sensitive,” he groaned before chuckling to himself and pulling out his normal everyday clothes from his bag. “And you’re tired? I forgot you just played in the match, my bad, chief.” He grabbed your hand back and pulled you onto his lap.
“Stop, you’re all sweaty and gross!” you exclaimed, clambering to get out of his grip. Your need to get away only made him pull you closer into his embrace. “But, I thought you liked this,” he snickered as he nuzzled his sweat soaked forehead on your shoulder. His eyes were beaming as he looked up at you, his fangs peaking through his mischievous grin. It was a hard sight to be upset at, and he knew that all too well. He knew you all too well. “Ruggie,” you whined again. “Say please, or we stay here all night,” he teased. “Please, Ruggie, hurry up,” you replied, your voice monotonous. His ears drooped a bit as he looked at you. “That doesn’t sound very sincere.”
“What? You want me to get on the floor and beg?” His ears perked up at your suggestion, which was supposed to be more of a rhetorical question. “Ruggie, I’m not getting on the floor and begging you to get undressed so we can go home.” You watched as his eyes trailed from your eyes to your lips and then back to your eyes. “You don’t want me undressed? I’m hurt. What do I do all this working out for then? For the boys?” he asked playfully. You lightly pushed him back and rolled your eyes. “You know what I mean. You’re still partially in your uniform and have to change. Don’t you think we should go home and rest? You guys just won another placement match, so you’ll want to be ready for the semifinals.”
“Yeah, yeah. We can go soon.” He moved you off his lap and onto the bench before standing up. He grabbed the hand towel that had been on the opposite side of him and used it to dry off the droplets of sweat on his face, neck, and chest before tossing it back on the bench. The locker room didn’t have much going on visually besides the random “team spirit” and “sportsmanship” posters hanging up on the walls behind a row of lockers. Ruggie was much more aesthetically pleasing to look at than them. You watched observantly as he searched his shirt for the tag so he put it on right, his forearm flexing every time his grip changed on the fabric. He pulled the shirt over his head, making sure to let his ears through first so they didn’t get tugged on.
He noticed you looking at his arms as he pulled his shirt down and straightened it out. “Don’t ogle me, weirdo.” He stood in front of you and leaned down to meet your eye level and placed one hand on either side of you. “Y’know, we did just win, and we don’t have to leave the locker rooms just yet.” Again, his fangy grin had you enamored as you felt your blood rushing to your face. You took the damp towel he had used previously and shoved it in his face between you both. “I wanna go home, Ruggie, please, you’re the one being a weirdo,” you teased playfully. “Yeah, okay, I’ll remember that. See if I share any of my snacks with you then,” he sighed as he ruffled his hair.
“Snacks?” you said intrigued. He bit his lip and shrugged as he grabbed his pants and walked off to the bathroom. “Ruggie, wait- are the snacks here??” you shouted to him. He just snickered as he closed the door without saying anything more.

heyyy !! im back with another request >:) (feel free to ignore !!)
may I request azul, ruggie, sebek, silver and ruggie (if there are too many characters feel free to choose three :D) with a crush on a gn reader who,, is like the embodiment of a disney prince
you can choose which prince they embody ! since there's a lot of different types of personalities these princes have~ but all I ask is that the reader is suave (even if they don't realize it depending on the prince)
if anything doesn't make sense i'm happy to clarify :D - cyra
Welcome back Cyra!!!!! And omg I love this concept?? I just went with the princes from their respective movies for all of them because I thought it would be funny!
Now presenting:
Ruggie, Azul, Kalim, Sebek, and Silver with a prince-like crush!
Ruggie:
(Simba-like crush)
-He uses you at first, of course
-You believe what he says so easily, and you're so determined and hot-headed in a world that puts you at the bottom of the food chain, and so easy to manipulate
-He is a little annoyed by your constant questions about the world you were in, sending you off repeatedly and brushing you off
-He even caught himself nearly growling at you when your persistence would keep him away from his work
-He would find it cute, if he was a different kind of guy
-At first he finds it amusing how you try to fight people twice your size, your adventurous nature leaving you in situations where you could easily be beaten and left to dust
-He doesn't notice you too much until Leona's overblot tbh
-But the moment he collapsed, coughing up blood and sand, he felt your arms trying to hold him up, trying your hardest to keep him awake, fight Leona, manage your friends, do all these things completely by yourself despite not knowing a thing about what was happening
-He could feel himself falling for you, no matter how hard he tried to stop it
-Even more so when you were helping him wrap his arm up in the infirmary, the only sound between you two being your quiet conversation and Leona's snoring
-He apologizes for his actions, despite making a joke out of it
-Eventually, you two get closer and closer. With you helping him out with his chores and singing with him, even helping play pranks on Leona and Jack. You help him work, you even went back to his hometown with him during spring break
-Watching you play and explore the area with the kids, asking endless questions back and forth. When one of the kids asked you something and you answered animatedly, play fighting with them and rolling in the dirt, not caring about how dirty you would get...
-And when you were done, the kids pulling at your arms and trying to pull you up to get you to play more. You, panting, sweating, covered in dirt and dust, looked up at him and gave him that wide smile
-He realized he was in too deep, and his Grandma could see it as clear as day
"-gie! Ruggie Bucchi!" He jumps.
"Sorry Grams..." He winces when she pinches his cheek, making him whine and lazily try to push her off.
"That little human is taking up an awful lot of your attention..." He flushes, looking away.
"It's not like that."
"Don't you dare lie to me, boy," The woman wags her finger, sweeping at his ankles to get him to step off to the side. "I've seen that look many times, and I know damn well what it is!" She grins, making his face turn a deeper red as he looks away, scratching his neck. She tsks and sweeps him out of the house and he mindlessly walks in your direction, lightly pulling one of the kids off you and holding them in the air, laughing when they scratch and growl and try to get him to put them down.
"Geez, Prefect..." He sighs, reaching a hand out to pull you up. You do with some difficulty due to some of the younger hyenas still trying to pull you down, one of them even going as far as to try to bite your ankles. "Alright, ya little rats-" The kids laugh and scream, running out of sight.
"You're a mess," He huffs.
You try to dust off your shirt and pants, only getting a fraction of the dirt off. "It's fine! I had fun!" He laughs, trying to dust off your face with his hand.
"How badly did those kids beat you up?"
You huff. "Not at all! I was winning!"
"Yeah, yeah," His hand rests on the nape of your neck, gray eyes staring into your own with an intensity you weren't used to seeing out of the boy. His breath catches, and his gaze flicks down to your mouth. You both slowly lean in, eyes falling closed when, from one of the alleys you hear-
"Get him while he's distracted!" And your hyena friend is on the ground, being chewed at by many, many tiny hyena children. You laugh, and Ruggie can't help but sigh in frustration at how close he'd been.
And at how he let his guard down around the neighborhood kids.
"That's it!" The kids scream as he tumbles with them on the ground, laughing and pulling at his hair, his ears, his shirt, all while you stand off to the side laughing.
If it made you smile, Ruggie thought, maybe being ambushed wasn't too bad.
Azul:
(Eric-like crush)
-At first he finds you a bit threatening tbh
-A strong, determined, charming human? It was juts like the stories he'd been told as a child about the mermaid princess and her prince
-Except he was in the position of the princess
-He finds you very suspicious at first, believing that, just like him, you were putting up a heroic front, wanting to be someone other than yourself
-He puts so much effort into trying to reveal who you really were, to scrape any dirt that he can use to hold over your head
-Stealing your dorm and forcing your friends to work at the lounge should've been the last straw, part of him wanted to see how livid you would get, that kind front tossed to the side as you would have pulled at your hair in frustration
-Of course, that didn't happen
-And at the end of it all, you were the one who was holding him when he woke up from his overblot, voicing your concern and yelling at Ace and Deuce to grab some water, bandages, anything
-He. Fell. HARD.
-He still believes that you're hiding things, but he gives into your charming nature easily, your attractive smile never failing to make him catch his breath and look away, trying to catch his train of thought
-He doesn't like how easily you can put him in a lovestruck daze, with your energetic laughter, your carefree dances
-With every breath of concern aimed towards him, his heart skips a beat, with your dopey smile spinning in his mind at night
-He can't help but imagine himself in the position of the mermaid princess with you as his savior late at night...
-Of course, he brushes this thought away as soon as possible
-"How embarrassing..." He thinks, covering his face with his pillow.
-You grow close, your charm quickly making the boy weak at the knees and rely on his cane just as he had that first week of school...
-The first time you take him on one of your sailing voyages,,, let's just say he, a merman, got incredibly seasick
-He loves the ocean, and he loves you, but he decided that he does not love boats
"P-Prefect!" He yelps, holding onto the beam connecting the sail that you were tugging at viciously. "M-Mayhaps we should head back?"
"Azul, it's fine!" There it is, that smile that takes all attempts at an argument out of his system. He slams his eyes closed, feeling his head spin from the nausea. He hears you tie the rope around a beam, catching your balance as you stumble to his side, the waves crashing against the side of the small sailboat that you two had spent the summer repairing. "I've been doing this since I was a kid."
"I'm aware..." His  voice wobbles as he covers his mouth with his hand.
"Are you not having fun?" He hears you ask quietly, quickly shooting to his feet.
"N-no! Of course I'm having f-fun-" He swallows thickly, face turning pale. "I-I'm just..."
"Oh!" He hopes that you made the connection desperately before he hurls and ruins his chances with you forever. "You can always swim alongside the boat if you miss the ocean that badly, Azul."
Oh you lovable idiot.
He sits down, yelping as the boat rocks suddenly with a strong wave. Sliding into you, actually. His face flushes and he tries to regain his posture, scrambling for a hold on the ship. Azul pauses when he realizes that his hold was your shirt. In his hands. His one hand on your collar, the other resting on your shoulder. He looks up just in time to see your face flush, knowing all too well that his face was the same.
Your faces are so close together that it reminds him of the part in the story where the Prince and Princess are on a row boat, swaying and turning to the music as they lean in and-
The boat tips, Azul gasping as the cold water shocks his system, trying to grab onto you and pull you onto the now capsized boat. He can hear the grating laughter of his childhood friend as a long tail disappears beneath the water.
"Floyd Leech I swear on my mother---!"
Kalim:
(You added Ruggie twice, so I threw in Kalim because I had the FATTEST crush on Aladdin as a kid and I WILL NOT let this opportunity to pass me by.)
-Genuinely believes that he's in a fairytale
-He sees the way you sneak around campus, climbing the buildings and laughing as Grim scrambles to perch himself on your back, not wanting to fall off, your longing gaze when you see how carefree the other students are
-Your witty manner when it comes to talking to the other students, your grin when you manage to sneak around someone and get your way
-So when you bump into him accidentally after he finishes with the light music club, arms full of chips and an apple wedged in your mouth, he's more than happy to help you get them back to your dorm
-You explain that you know the codes to the vending machines, and that Crowley, plus working at Sam's part time and Mostro whenever they have positions available isn't nearly enough for you and Grim to survive, he feels bad. He agrees to keep your secret
-You two talk sometimes between classes, much to Jamil's dismay
-Oh yeah, Jamil doesn't trust you. One bit. Kalim may fall for your charm, but he doesn't. Kalim has to practically beg and give Jamil a full powerpoint on why you're actually a good person and that you have to steal from the vending machines to survive.
-He still is on edge around you, but much less after his overblot.
-That was the moment when Kalim's crush went from puppy love to full on adoration
-When he sobbed into your arms in the desert, heartbroken and, little did anyone know, his whole world crumbling around him
-I mean, he grew up knowing he couldn't trust anyone, even his own family. Practically isolated from society, forced to face death around every corner he crossed and all of a sudden the one person he thought he could trust betrays him and has been holding a grudge on him since they were kids?
-He knew heartbreak well, but every time he felt it it got worse. This one was the worst of them all.
-But you were there, telling off the Leech twins and their comments and hushing him gently, patting down his fluffy white hair
-His feelings only grew stronger when you hung out more after that, and they became unbearable throughout the whole VDC adventure
-He knows that it's bad. He knows that his parents won't allow him to marry someone who literally acts like the thief from his favorite fairytale. He knows that countless people will talk about him for ages. He knows, with a pang to his heart, that loving you means putting you in danger.
-But you already fill so much room in his heart, and even thinking about living a life without you makes him want to bawl
-He loves when you help him sneak away from Scarabia and even the palace when you visit his hometown, teaming up with the carpet to sneak him out through his balcony
"I've never seen the Scalding Sands like this before..."
"Didn't you go on rides like this before?" Even the carpet seems to wince at that, it's little tassel tensing up.
"I wasn't allowed to leave the palace much growing up, honestly..." For once, his smile isn't present n his face, voice small enough to be carried away by the wind if you weren't right next to him. "It was for my own safety."
"I'm sorry," You press a hand to his shoulder and he looks up at you, smiling softly.
"There's no need to be sorry!" He beams, turning to face you fully. "I'm having lots of fun with everyone now! I mean, I'm practically all over campus all the time!" You smile and nod. "Besides, even if I was stuck in Scarabia or my home, I know that I have you there, and that you'll sneak me out!"
You both laugh at that. The sun begins to set over the horizon, painting the desert in shades of reds and oranges. He watched your face light up at the sight, a bright smile painting your face that made his heart skip a beat. Tentatively, he reaches over, grabbing your hand.
"Lets-let's get back to the party, okay?" Not knowing what to do with the surge of emotion, Kalim opts to do things the way he's always done- distract himself with pointless matters. He wonders if he imagined the look of disappointment on your face, or if that was simply him giving his hopes up.
You nod and the carpet slowly turns before whipping around and sending you both tumbling off to the side. Kalim yelps, his head nearly dangling off the side as he grabs your arm to steady you, one of the arms that was now trapping him under you. He gulps when he notices that you're still in a panicked daze from nearly falling off.
"C-carpet..." He lightly scolds. "That wasn't..." His voice is caught in his throat as he looks up at you, noticing how flushed your face had become once you realize the position you were thrown into. You quickly scramble back, apologizing to the boy who laughs and shakes his head.
"No worries!" He hopes that the setting sun is enough to hide his own flushed face. He helps you balance yourself again on the now more-wobbly-than-usual carpet. He silently thanks the enchanted object for the moment, and curses himself for not making his move then.
At least now, he thinks, I've decided the path I'm going to take.
Sebek:
(Went with Flynn Ryder because I think the dynamic would be HILARIOUS and I'm already doing Phillip with Silver,,,")
-Wanted to knock you out at first
-He heard you talking to Malleus, and he knows that you can be as sneaky as Ruggie when it comes to stealing
-He screamed at you so loud you swore you saw his face turn so red that it was practically purple
-So, not a good start.
-It didn't help that you came by to help Riddle at the stables and Sebeks horse hated your guts
-He saw that as a definite sigh that you were bad luck
-He kept his distance from you, and he would not let you hear the end of it if you did get close
-How did you end up making him fall for you? Easy, actually
-Your goofy smile, your snide comments and jokes wormed their way into his heart. Your mutual friends, the first years, invited him to their hangouts and there, he found that you two were often wedged in a corner together, chatting away about anything and everything
-Soon he was looking forward to you visiting the stables, despite his horse still not liking you
-He even found himself talking about you to the other Diasomnia members, the rest of them easily picking up on what was happening
-And, if you must, you do have a moment like the lantern scene
"This is pointless!" Sebek huffs, holding the delicate paper lantern a little too tightly, the sides crinkling. "I have better things to be doing than this!"
"It's fun," You shrug, gently taking it from his hands, your fingertips brushing and making the boy turn a new shade of red, thankful that you can't see it due to the dark. "Live a little, Sebek."
"I've been doing quite a bit of living as of late, I'll have you know," He mumbles to himself, snapping and lighting a small magical spark atop his glove. He was hesitant about the new idea for the graduation ceremony at first. Sending off the third years with a lantern show? The prefect told him that it was metaphorical, but Sebek found no need for such things.
"I don't think you have," They tease, elbowing him slightly. He pouts, lowering his hand to light the lantern. It begins to glow a soft yellow, illuminated in your hands.
"Careful," He says softly, voice quiet in fear of breaking the playful tranquility of the moment. Your peers were further down in the field while you both had found a quiet place near the tree line, hearing the laughter of your classmates as you fumbled with the lantern. "Don't burn yourself."
"I won't." You mumble back quietly, moving your hands so he could hold the other side of the lantern. He does so and you both pause before you send it off. "Should we say something to this lantern-that's-supposed-to-represent-our-friends?"
He's silent before nodding. "G-good luck during your travels, Young Master, Lilia-"
"Please don't do anything stupid, I won't be around to save you all anymore-" You giggle and Sebek bites back a retort. Slowly you both send the lantern into the air, watching it rise higher and higher above the others. He feels your hand wrap around his own, your fingers laced together as his breath catches in his throat.
"Sebek, I-" You turn, swallowing quickly and looking into his lime green eyes. He smiles softly down at you.
"Prefect..."
"I really-"
"Prefect!" Ace screams from below. "We fucked up BAD!"
"What?!" You shout back, Sebek fighting the urge to throttle the redhead. "How?!"
"Grim was still on the lantern and we let go!"
"WHAT?!"
Silver:
(Phillip-like crush)
-Talk about a match made in heaven
-You're both fairly reserved, and honorable. You first met him when his animal friends led you to him, a beautiful, silver-haired boy asleep in the middle of the forest. Delicate face framed with glimmering strands of hair, porcelain skin decorated in small scars and callouses, surrounded by flowers and berries, only slightly shifting and groaning in his sleep.
-You crouched beside him, gently shaking him awake in a fit of worry.
-He opened his eyes and was certain that the fairytales that his father had told him were all true
-Love at first sight, kind of thing
-You bid each other goodbye, and then ran into each other once more while he was training in the forest, sword swinging and jabbing at empty air. You tell him about how you know how to spar as well, both of you training together and giving each other pointers on how to do better.
-Once, while cleaning and polishing his sword, he began to hum a short tune that you seemed to naturally fall into a harmony with, both of you singing gently
-You two began to hang around each other when classes weren't in session, always within reaching distance of one another
-He adores your kind and determined nature, and how quickly you went to protect him and keep him safe when he fell asleep out of nowhere. It was a feeling that he wasn't used to, being protected. After all, he was trained to be a knight since he was young. He was supposed to be the one doing the protecting.
-He loves how determined you are, and how well you get along with his horse that often follows him around when it's not in the stable
-He also loves your laidback attitude, never caring when he falls asleep on your shoulder or asking to take a break during your training because he feels his eyes start to slip
-He has been hopelessly in love with you since your first meeting, but every little thing you do makes him fall further and further into his own fantasies
-When you first meet his father and get along with him, that was when he realized that he had to do something
"See you later, Dearie~" Lilia chuckles from the kitchen. You smile and wave as you walk away from the dorm, noticing Silver's unease.
"We can stay away from Diasomnia until dinner's over, okay?" He gives you a grateful smile and a nod, glad that you always seem to know what he's thinking about. You notice how his steps seem to drag and how he stumbles a bit the deeper you get into the forest near Ramshackle.
"We can rest here-" He shakes his head, cutting you off.
"I-I can make it back to Ramshackle," You nod, knowing not to challenge him when he has an idea in mind. Once inside your dorm, he practically collapses on the couch next to you, his head lolling to the side as his aurora colored eyes seem to nearly disappear beneath his pale eyelids. He slowly leans, his head landing in your lap as you smile, playing with his hair as his chest rises and falls softly.
He reaches up with the last of his energy, grabbing your hand in his and squeezing it gently. "Thank you."
"Silver, you don't need to-"
"I do. Thank you," He mumbles, taking a soft breath. "I..." You notice how he's struggling to stay awake, lightly smoothing out his hair and hushing him.
"It's okay. We can talk when you wake up, yeah?"
He purses his lips before humming monotonously, falling into a deep sleep on your lap.

Listen....
As someone who used to play piano, sing in choirs, and did Community Theatre I'd 100% serenade my fave (or any) Twst boys. Hell, I'd do it for the bit or as some type of prank! I might find any and all opportunities to sing/play songs from a range of decades to my boys.....
Imagine teasing Trey by singing Build Me Up Buttercup by the Foundations while he's baking for you ❤️ and seeing him shaking his head with an amused smile. As long as you help around the kitchen, and don't mind a playful chase or two with the ingredients, 🧁 he might be willing to join in with I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) by Four Tops as you clean up the mess the two of you made.
Jokingly singing Hard Days Night by the Beatles with/at Ruggie after another long day of school, work, errands and babysitting.... 🌼 When finally you've got some time to just be in each other's presence. But even if the two of you can only get these small moments now, deep down Ruggie knows how lucky he is to love you. 🌠 Introducing Knock On Wood by Eddie Floyd would perfectly put words to just how lucky he is to have you.
Late at night, when Jamil finally has some time to rest, and finally being able to Serenade him in the moonlight 🌙 with Moonlight Serenade by Ella Fitzgerald. Sure, it's a little on the nose but he's still flattered. Save The Last Dance For Me by The Drifters would be another testament of how well you understood him; 🪭Jamil's first priority might be Kalim's by blood, but his biggest priority is YOU (and that's by choice).
Rook would be fascinated to know French songs on Earth like La Vie En Rose by Louise Armstrong! Even if you fumble through the words a little, as long as you show him the lyrics perhaps the two of you could work through it together.🌹He'd equally love hearing old Crooner songs like The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra.... And the way he looks at you while performing just about sets your heart on fire 🔥💕.
Old Man Lilia would appreciate just about any rendition of Dream A Little Dream Of Me considering his affiliation with 💭Diasomnia. But considering his love of music in general, along with the seemingly endless life he's already had up until he finally got to meet and fall for you 💘, At Last by Etta James would be almost too perfect.
(This wasn't perfectly done, but I LITERALLY couldn't sleep until I typed it all out. As you can tell my taste can lean kinda old school (because I was raised by a Baby Boomer) but I've also been listening to a lot of Jazz, Soul and classic musical numbers lately. These songs hold a lot of memories and nostalgia and I guess I just needed a space to project them on lol! And if you couldn't tell.... I fucking ADORE the Vice Wardens in Twisted Wonderland 💖😩🥰 These characters and so many others hold SUUUUUUCH a close place in my heart I literally can't.💜❤️ Lowkey, lemme know if anyone's interested in more songs that I associate (and dissociate singing to them lol) with these or any other characters!! It'd also be fun to try writing a drabble, ONE-SHOT, or full fic again 🥴😋)

Thank you @cursedcola for letting me take inspiration from their post here! Give it a read, it's super good!

Your fingers twisted around a small tuft of hair, the smell of his shampoo escaping to the air the more you explored. His head was in your lap, his nose pressed firmly against your stomach, and his thumb slowly caressing the small of your back. Gently, as if he were afraid you'd break if he pushed too hard. You smiled softly, tenderly untangling a knot he'd missed, your tightly woven bracelet hitting the back of his head each time you moved your right wrist. His room was already filled with soft touches of you, your favorite snacks stuffed in drawers, a gift he was planning to give you for your upcoming anniversary, but none of it compared to when you sat with him. The soft dip in the mattress cover, the way you tend to hum to fill the silence.
"Ruggie?" You mumbled, hand drifting to his fluffy ears. He twitched in response, a low hum filling his throat. "I need to get up."
"...why?" His voice was muffled by the fabric of your shirt which he had nuzzled his face even deeper into. "Can't cha' just stay?"
You pushed his head off your lap, his bright blue eyes meeting yours. "Come with me."
He blinked. "With you? Thought you had some sorta Ramshackle thing and it was top-secret."
"What? Who told you that? Was it Grim? Ugh. It totally was. No, you can come. He's just jealous that I've been busy with you."
Ruggie smiled, reaching his hand up to pull on the collar of your shirt, bringing your head down to where he could press a kiss against your lips. His fingers stayed wrapped in the fabric, the warmth of his hands nearly matching the heat quickly rising to your face. He exhaled onto your lips, his freezing breath shocking you back to reality. Slowly, he let go of your shirt, bringing his hand to your face and brushing away a few loose hairs. "I'd be jealous, too." He finally whispered, his eyes scanning each feature on your face. "You... you're addicting."
"Rugs..." You mumbled, the pet name quirking your lips upward, "What is with you today?"
He hesitated, his fingers frozen in the air, "...I dunno."
"We're gonna be late."
"Grim can wait."
You frowned fondly, flicking his cheek lightly, "That's rude."
"So?"
"Ruggie."
"Ugh, fine." He got up from under you, steadying himself by pressing his hand on your shoulder, letting it linger longer than it needed to, and forced himself off the mattress. He raised his hands to the ceiling, fingers interlocked and eyes shut, a satisfying stretch to get him back to the real world.
You followed him, quickly moving across the room and grabbing your things as you went, you threw open his closet and stole a hoodie.
"Hey." He spoke, not even having to look at you to know what you'd done.
"Girlfriend tax."
He rolled his eyes, keeping his body turned away so you couldn't see the embarrassing smile on his lips. "You're gonna be the death of me."
"If only you were so lucky." You came up behind him and kissed his shoulder, "You ready?"
"If I say no, can we-"
"No."
"Then, yeah. Ready." He stepped towards the door and outstretched his hand for you, head still pointed at the ground. You smiled and closed the distance, weaving your fingers together, giggling at how quickly he marched out the door.
You had been dating for nearly two months now, and he still gets flustered by the proximity. You'd think it were cute, if not for the teasing he gets for it from other Savanaclaw students. You'd say something yourself, if not for the... well, just about everything. It was hard enough to survive as a Magicless student at a Magic school, no need to spice things up by provoking people. Not like you don't know how to defend yourself, of course. (It was one of the first things Ruggie insisted you know.)
Your bracelet sank down your wrist, the faded pink, black, and white yarn tickling his hand. He wrinkled his nose at the feeling, attempting to move the bracelet more toward you with his thumb without you noticing. You laughed at him, unlinking your hands and switching to the other side of him.
"Sorry. Forgot you hate it." You spoke, rubbing your thumb against the back of his hand in apology.
"'S whatever." He mumbled, spare hand playing with his scarf. "Where did you get that anyhow?"
Your grip on his hand loosened a small ingenuine smile on your lips. "It's, ah. Home. I guess."
He shut his mouth, wincing at your sorrowful tone. Dammit. He knew better than to bring up anything related to where you're from. He looked at you out of the corner of his eye, watching how you followed the curve of the pavement with your eyes.
"What're you meeting with Grim for?"
"Tuna budget."
Ruggie snorted, his head tilting up. "Course that cat doesn't listen to what you say."
You squeezed his hand, the faintest hint of a smile starting to grow on your face, " Ruggie Bucchi, are you seriously jealous of Grim?"
"Jealous? Me? Naw. He's just a little freak, that's all."
"You should tell him that. In fact- oh." You were cut off by Ruggie's phone beeping incessantly. Ruggie let go of you and reached for it, shoulders drooping when he saw who was calling him. "Leona?" You asked before he could say anything. He nodded.
"'M sorry, I gotta-"
You stood on your toes and kissed his cheek, "It's okay. I'll see you later. Keep your phone on, though."
He looked between you and his phone before walking back toward the dorm, the phone pressed to his ear.
You sighed, watching as he disappeared inside, and walked towards the Mirror back to Ramshackle.
After leaving the Hall of Mirrors, you were surprised to see a mix of Pomefiore and Diasomnia students standing outside the door. They went silent as you passed, each of their pointed glares locked onto you. You quickened your pace, heart racing when you looked back and realized the group was gone.
You searched through your pockets for your phone as you walked, legs starting to tremble. There was a part of you that was livid, sick of avoiding the student's cruel streaks and hoping Ruggie or Leona would notice in time to help. But the fear outweighed the anger, the reality that there were 3 of them and only one of you.
It started small. Eggs were thrown at Ramshackle, something that could be attributed to a stupid prank. Then the windows on the first floor were shattered, then your things started to go missing. Clothes, homework, just about anything that wasn't bolted down was gone.
You'd wanted to tell Ruggie. You did - it wasn't just a purposeful ignorance of the situation that kept your mouth shut, it was the exhaustion in his eyes. He didn't need another task. Another person to worry about. Another person to protect.
It wasn't like they threatened you directly, anyway. Just your things. You could get new things. Hide them in different places. Sleep in the bathroom with the door locked. Hide a knife in each drawer.
No, you were fine. You had Grim! Well, kind of. He was always doing his own thing, the only thing he noticed being gone was the tuna. But even so, it wasn't that bad. Right? Right.
As you hurried back to Ramshackle, you were acutely aware of how fast the sun was setting and the shuffling sounds of footsteps behind you. Your mind was racing - should you run? Where would you run to? Are you faster than them? Is Ramshackle even safe? Could you pull your phone out and call Ruggie fast enough? Would he be mad?
"Hey." A gruff voice from behind you called out, quiet snickering quickly following it. "Hey!" The voice got louder, accompanied by a hand grabbing onto your shoulder.
You slowly turned to the assailant, a trembling smile on your face. "C... can I help you?"
The student, with sweeping brown hair and pristine skin, smiled at you. He removed his hand from your shoulder, taking a step away from you. Before you could fathom why, the wind was knocked out of your lungs as a fist plunged into your chest. You were knocked to the ground, your arms scratching against the cement.
You looked up to see a pair of Diasomnia students with bright red hair and matching grins, one pulled out his Magical Pen as the other grabbed you by the collar and punched you in the face. You choked on your spit, lips tightly pressed together to stop yourself from giving any sort of reaction. The other student grabbed your hair and pulled it, lighting a mild fire spell against your forehead, and applying increasing amounts of pressure.
Your hands rose to defend yourself, but before you could fight back the other dug his nails into your wrist and twisted it. You felt tears in your eyes as a strangled sound left your throat, but kept twisting. The brown-haired student walked towards your twisted wrist and slid off your bracelet, twirling it between his fingers.
"N-no... ngh!" You tried to protest, but the student twisting your wrist switched to punching your nose.
"Hmm." The brown-haired student smiled, "A bracelet from another world, belonging to NRCs one and only female student. Who knows how much it'll sell for?" He pocketed the bracelet and nodded toward the other two before walking off back to the Hall of Mirrors.
One of the Diasomnia students grunted, letting go of you and following after. The one holding your hair shoved you to the ground, laughing at how your head knocked against the cement and quickly caught up with the other two.
Your vision blurred as you stared at the sky, burning pain shooting through your ribs with each shaky breath. Tears slid down your face, sobs muted by the harsh wind. You raised your left hand, bringing it to your forehead and wincing at the heat that remained. You shut your eyes tightly, unable to withstand the burning, and felt your hand search through your pockets before the world faded away.
...
Ruggie felt bad enough for leaving you as is, but then to check his phone and see 10 missed calls? He was overcome with guilt and an uncomfortable sensation at the bottom of his stomach - it wasn't pain or nausea, just a sense of unease.
He would've made an excuse for ditching Leona's chores, but seeing as Leona was already passed out, he didn't see the need. He flung a wet towel over his shoulder hoping he could get back to work after checking in with you.
As he walked through the dorm, he kept recalling your number. The first time you didn't answer he was annoyed. By the third he was worried. By the twelfth, he was sprinting to Ramshackle.
It was so dark he almost missed his, but his body knew more than his mind, he knew the smell of your perfume, and he stopped in his tracks. He snapped his head around, searching, until he could finally see a crumpled body lying on the ground.
Ruggie has always considered himself to be calm in an emergency. He'd seen his fair share of them back home, after all, but there was always a layer of separation. Or a knowing that things weren't safe. Or some other intangible difference he couldn't put his finger on, maybe it was just the fact that it was you.
He hadn't remembered what had happened after he realized that it was you on the ground, but the next thing he could remember was shaking his leg outside the nurse's office, crouching against a wall with his fingers steepled above his head. His head felt foggy, like everything before and after you were just a distant memory, some irrelevant event. No, none of it was as important as you. He'd lose everything, anything, just to see you smile again. Or hear you hum, your eyes shut in content as he watched you.
Mesmerizing. You were mesmerizing. He knew this. He's known this. It felt like a trick for you to have any interest in him, and it felt even cheaper for him to love you back just to take you away.
How cruel could someone be to do this to you? You? Stunning, shining you?
He loved you. He's never said it. But he knew it. He's known it. He loves you.
He loves you.
It took 4 hours and 39 minutes for the nurse to come into the hallway and catch his teary gaze, a gloved hand beckoning him inside. He felt his heart would catch in his chest, anxiously following the nurse to your bedside.
When he laid eyes on you, he wanted to collapse. To sink to his knees and start breaking things. He almost wished the only time he'd seen you like this was under the cover of night, where he could pretend your injuries weren't as severe as they were. To never see you covered in bandages, a tube with a healing potion slowly dripping into your mouth, open wounds trailing down your right arm.
"I..." He kept his eyes on you, hand cautiously grabbing yours, "Is she...?"
"She'll be fine."
He exhaled, thumb caressing the back of your hand. A tense breath left his lips as he stared at your wrist. "...her bracelet. Did you take it off?"
"She didn't have a bracelet."
"Don't lie to me. She always wears that."
"Mr Bucchi, I-"
Ruggie stood and left the nurses office, his fingers digging into his palms.
It never takes long to find information, not for him at least. It took even less time to put names on the three students selling the 'otherworldy' bracelet, and to find them alone.
The Diasomnia students, twin brothers with a penchant for violence. They never thought well for themselves, often taking orders or cheating those around them. The only ally they had was a Pomefiore student who vied for Housewarden. He was not above tricking and using those around him, as many of the freshmen can attest to.
The Diasomnia students were the easiest. They ran up and down the steps daily, pushing those in their way all for their workout. It took one use of his signature spell to send them both tumbling down with sprained ankles and broken wrists.
The Pomefiore one was a bit harder. He watched him as you recovered, still unable to open your eyes, and he finally saw his opportunity as he tried to sell your bracelet.
By the time Ruggie was finished with him, the Pomefiore student and his 'client' were rushed to the Nurses office for priority care.
Ruggie palmed your bracelet as he sat by your bedside, always having a Savanaclaw student by you as he enacted his plan, and slowly slipped it onto your wrist.
"...I love you." He mumbled, brushing his thumb against the yarn to clear some dirt, "I love you."
...
Blinding light, soft mumbling. You knit your eyebrows together and scrunched your nose as your eyes fluttered open. Your throat was dry, there was a pounding in your head, and your hand felt like it was on fire.
"Nurse." A watery voice called out, "Nurse!"
You tried to search for the sound, but all you could see was a vague outline. Calloused hands grabbed yours, and you could just about hear someone saying your name.
The figure was pushed away as a new person leaned over you, asking you rapid-fire questions you couldn't understand.
"Wa-water." You choked out.
The figure rushed off at the hand wave of the person leaning over you. They sat you up on the bed, their eyes slowly coming into focus.
"-bad reaction to the potion. Do you understand? Can you hear me?"
You nodded slowly, searching the brightly lit room. "W...where am I?"
"You're in the nurse's office. There was... there was an incident. How much do you remember?"
"I..." You winced as a burning pain filled your head, your lifted your hands over your face.
"It's okay. Just relax. You've been sleeping for a while now."
"Wha...?"
"It's been 2 days, (Y/N)."
"Wai... wait. Ruggie...?" Your hands fell to your sides.
"He's here."
"...'s okay?"
"He's fine."
The figure came back into your vision holding a cup of water, the nurse grabbed it from the figure's hands and pressed it to your lips. You drank the water in seconds, the liquid soothing a pain you hadn't realized you had.
"Wh... where's Ruggie?" You looked around the room, "I..."
The figure stepped closer, slightly pushing the nurse out of the way, and you could see bright blue eyes. "I'm here." His hands grabbed yours, and a wave of relaxation fell over you. "H... how are you feeling?"
"...it's bright."
"Ah!" The nurse exclaimed, pushing a light away from your face. You blinked and could finally see small bandaids covering Ruggie's face and tears in his eyes.
"Rugs..." You muttered eyebrows knit together in concern. "You're-"
He cut you off by grabbing your hand and squeezing. "I'm here."
You nodded slowly, "You're here."
Ruggie smiled softly, his lips pursed, "I'll be here. Wherever you are. Whatever you need."
"Ruggie?"
"Yes?"
You shakily reached up and grabbed him by the shirt collar, bringing his head down to you, pressing a hesitant kiss on his lips. "I need you to stay."
He smiled, his lips still locked onto yours, a cool breath brushing against your bottom lip, "Of course."

Zoolumination with Ruggie
Summary: You get two tickets to go to the zoo's Chinese New Year event that they do every January. You convince Ruggie to go and enjoy your night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WC: 2145 Tags: fluff, gn!reader, Ruggie x reader, one shot, zoo lights, zoo event, ruggie with bangs pulled back because I said so, also not proofread cause idk who mrs.proofread is © please do not copy and or repost my work as your own, my brain is massive and these are my thoughts.
“What do you mean they were free?” Ruggie asked in a confused tone. He was staring at you, hands halfway in the sink washing the dishes. His bangs pinned back so they were out of his face when he looked down. “I mean, that I got these for Christmas from a coworker. Please, can we go? It sounds so fun,” you said in a pleading tone, tugging at his arm.
“Don’t give me those eyes, shishishi. What time does it start?” he said laughing as he continued to clean the dishes in the sink. You looked over the ticket, reading over the details for the event. “It says: Celebrate Chinese New Year with us at Zoolumination! From 6pm to 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 6pm to 10pm Friday and Saturday. Event lasting all month of January,” you said, reading it out loud for him. “OOOH! It says we get one free hot chocolate with every ticket, too,” you said excitedly, pulling at his arm again. “We can even go tonight, please I want to go.”
You watched Ruggie look up at the ceiling and smile, shaking his head as he turned his gaze to you. “If that’s what you want, then that’s what we will do. Let me finish these first, okay?” he said, shining you a cheeky smile. Maybe the hot chocolate had intrigued him enough to agree to it. The tickets were free, so it was something you two could do together without having to worry about paying a huge amount of money to have fun. You had heard all your friends at work talk about how fun the event was, so you were very excited to get the tickets in a secret santa gift at work.
You hurried to the living room, grabbing your coat to throw on and putting on fuzzy socks for the night. It wasn't too cold outside, but it was cold enough at night that you wanted thicker socks. Ruggie came out of the kitchen, drying his hands with the hand towel that hangs on the oven door handle. “So what all will they have there? Like what even is this thing?” he said as he put the towel in the laundry room.
You were at the door, trying to decide between your boots and your crocs to wear for the night. You looked at both pairs of shoes, back and forth, as you answered Ruggie. “Uhh, it said there would be lights and huge decorations. I think they said they are letting some of the nocturnal animals out into their exhibits? So that sounds cool,” you said, finally grabbing your crocs to throw on. You figured that even though they were crocs, the fuzzy socks should keep your feet warm for the night.
Ruggie snickered at you, slipping your crocs on in sports mode and doing a small dance by the door. He enjoyed seeing you so excited. He felt bad most of the time, guilty that he couldn’t take you to nice places or buy you nice gifts. Your face lighting up when you two finally were able to go somewhere or do something together is what he loved seeing most. The way your eyes lit up and you were nothing but giddy about the adventure you two would take, that is what made his heart swoon every time.
He threw on his own coat and sneakers, catching the keys as you tossed them to him. Ruggie always drove when you two went somewhere together. He would open your door and close it for you, he treated you like royalty. Part of you figured it was because of all the catering he did for Leona in school, but he always reassured you he did this because he wanted to- not because he had to. You two drove to the zoo, Ruggie with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding your hand in your lap.
As the car approached the entrance to the zoo, you could see the lights coming from inside the venue. Not even inside the zoo, and the lights were already taking your breath away. “Is that a giant giraffe?!” you shouted, pointing it out over the top of the zoo’s entryway arch while Ruggie tried to park the car. “Hey, hey, hey. Move your hand. I can’t see,” he said playfully but also really wanting you to stop pointing so he could park.
“I’m sorry, I’m just excited. It’s freaking huge,” you said with a laugh as you two got out of the car. Ruggie ran to your side, wanting to open your door for you. In your excitement, you were already out of the car, in awe at the sights you could see from the parking lot. He huffed at you, his hands on his hips. You reached over and grabbed his hand to hold, making him give you a small kiss on your forehead. You could hear the car beep a few times from locking as you both walked to the front of the zoo.
Ruggie pulled you along towards the gate to show your tickets as you rummaged through your purse with your free hand to grab your two tickets. You found them just as you two approached the zoo staff member checking tickets. As they scanned your tickets, they handed you two vouchers for hot chocolate. “Have a wonderful night! Please enjoy,” they said chipperly as you and Ruggie entered the zoo.
The zoo was lit up along its main path, some decorations snuck into exhibits while the animals were in their indoor housing for the nights. The beginning part of the zoo trail was home to the gift shop since the path made a large loop and ended where it began. The gift shop was closed for the night, but red lanterns were placed all along the railing of the walkway in front of it.
You saw the tall giraffe you could see from the parking lot as you two made your way to the area where the bulk of the event was held. The area was the usual home for the zoo restaurant, kid’s play area, and had a large open greenery area on a small hill for the zipline activity you could do on a normal zoo outing. The event had the large area filled with lit up decorations for the night.
Ruggie saw the hot chocolate stand before you did, a huge grin coming over his face as he looked over to you. “Do you wanna go ahead and get some? I know you want some, shishishi,” he said, still holding your hand and gingerly shaking it while he asked. Your eyes were wide, oh how you loved hot chocolate. He knew you so well. You eagerly nodded, handing Ruggie the two vouchers as he let go of your hand to go wait in line to get you both a drink. The line wasn’t long, just a person or two in front of him, so he made it back to you swiftly.
You took your cup of hot chocolate from him, blowing into the small hole to try and cool it down. “It’s not super hot, I tried a sip on my way back to see,” he said to you. You took a sip, the warm chocolatey liquid hitting your tastes buds and making your whole body warm up. It didn’t even matter what the weather felt like that night, the warmth of the hot chocolate was enough to keep you toasty. “It’s good, right?” Ruggie asked, his tail giving a small wag behind him. It was very good; the zoo must’ve spent a lot of money making sure that the drink was nice for their night guests.
Ruggie laughed as he reached out his hand to you, offering it to hold once more. You willingly took his hand and started to walk through the lit up pathways and decorations. One of the first things you saw were large, beautifully designed vases and teacups. They were white but decorated in blue designs of flowers and dragons. It was beautiful to look at, so you stopped to hand Ruggie your cup so you could use your phone to take pictures.
You snagged a few pictures and put your phone away, continuing with Ruggie through the zoo. There were so many decorations everywhere. The hanging lanterns over the bridge near the bengal tiger exhibit were breathtaking, the red and gold patterns on them complemented each other so well. The kangaroo exhibit, which usually was full of bouncy creatures, had lit up kangaroo decorations. You stopped again to take more pictures.
Every time you stopped to hand Ruggie your cup, he would laugh at you, lovingly of course. You were just enjoying the night. Being able to go out together with Ruggie and see the amazing decorations that the zoo had out was bringing you a lot of joy, you were really happy that your secret santa had given you this as a gift. By the time you two made your way out of the kangaroo’s exhibit, you had finished your hot chocolate. Ruggie took your cup and put both of yours in the trash bin.
As you continued your loop through the zoo, the large dragon decoration was what caught your eye. “Rug, Rug, RUG,” you said, jerking and pulling on his arm. His attention was elsewhere, staring off at the sky. He looked spooked for a moment, confused by your exclamation and sudden jerking. “What, what, what?” he said in a hurried tone, he thought something was wrong. You pointed at the large dragon decoration as you smiled at him, your grin from ear to ear.
“Oh, wow. That thing looks cool as hell,” he said, staring up and walking towards the dragon. “How big you think this thing is?” He was sizing up the dragon, looking it up and down. “I bet this thing is like 20 feet tall at least, maybe 30,” he said in a confident tone. “Yeah, how’d you figure that?” you said sarcastically.
Ruggie walked over to a sign that was near the decoration, one you thought just said what the dragon was supposed to be or represented. “Oh, I don’t know. I think I’m a good guesser, maybe I’m like a magician or something,” he said standing by the sign and smiling. You tried to read the sign from where you were, but couldn’t make out what it said. You walked closer and read the sign. “This dragon structure stands at 29 feet tall.” You gave him an eye roll and a light punch to his arm as he laughed at you, believing that he just knew how tall the dragon was.
“You make me so mad sometimes,” you said, pouting at him. “Yeah, yeah, I’m sure,” he said with a giggle. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and opened his camera app. “We are way too close to this thing for you to get a good picture of it, Rug. You’re gonna have to back up some,” you said to him, trying to get him to realize that this was not the best place to take a picture of it. Ruggie leaned closer to you, kissing your cheek before putting his on yours. “That’s not what I’m taking a picture of,” he said as the camera’s light flashed in front of you. Ruggie turned his phone around to look at the picture. “Oh, I am putting this as my background,” he said, giving a mischievous laugh under his breath. You were trying to look over his shoulder to see the picture, you knew it was a terrible one of you.
“Oh, are you wanting to see?” Ruggie asked teasingly. You gave him another pout and crossed your arms. He pulled you in and kissed your forehead before giving your head a nice pat as he turned his phone to you. The picture he had taken could not be a more unflattering photo of you. He looked perfectly fine, damn near one of the best photos he had taken of himself. You on the other hand, look disheveled, confused, like a deer caught in the headlights. A huge contrast to Ruggie’s beaming smile in the photo.
“Ruggie, delete it,” you said aggressively, trying to grab his phone from him. He held his phone in the air above his head, out of your reach. “Ah, ah, ah. I like this picture, I want to remember tonight,” he said, still grinning back at you. “You just wait, Rug. I’m gonna get one of you while you're dead asleep, drool coming out of your mouth and all,” you said in a very matter of fact tone. Ruggie snickered as he grabbed your hand, pulling you towards the front of the zoo so you could both go back home.

Totally something Yuu does with Ruggie. Figure Ruggie is shopping and wants something but doesn't have enough money. Yuu ether spots him the money or just asks during check out if they can have it since their short.
"Can ya spot me?"
I personally never had to get spotted lmao, i usually never have enough money to get a lot of the stuff i want so i just kinda put it back immediately and say nothing of it. May be ooc, i never really pay attention to Ruggie lol.
-------------------------------------
-Ruggie probably got Leona’s snacks and such, forgetting he only brought like twenty madol. He panics pretty hard when he realizes he won't be able to pay it all.
-As he is planning to snag some poor student’s wallet, you walk over with your own groceries (mainly tuna) and pay for the two of your groceries, shocking the hyena.
-Dude needs to do a double take before he realizes your generosity and immediately bumps on it, a smug look on his face as he thinks of all the profit he could make off it, before thinking over it again and deciding against it, since he would feel a bit scummy if he did.
-When you offer to go with him to his next shopping trip he plans to bring enough madol for himself this time, but is confused when You pay for his groceries before he can even pull his wallet out, making him take this as a challenge.
-Now he tries to pay before you have the chance to pay, failing every time he tries, eventually doing so and taking it as a massive victory, though what he didn't know was that you purposely left your wallet at home to give him this one victory before you continue to pay for everything.
---
Ruggie watched you as you stopped down the aisle every now and then, waiting for the moment you would let your guard down. You had paid for his groceries seven times now, and it was the time for him to politely steal your groceries to pay for them. “Aright, I think I'm done-” Before the sentence had even finished, Ruggie snagged the bag of groceries out of your hands, a smug look on his face as he dashed over to the counter, quickly paying Sam the needed amount (using Leona’s credit card), turning and handing the groceries back, smiling proudly as he did so. “Shishishi, Hope you didn't mind me paying.”

Haircut- Ruggie Bucchi x reader (Little bit of angst)
Publishing stories that I either wrote a while back or started writing and never got around to finish. May do a part 2 to some of these if I have time. Self-indulgent Ruggie fic because he has always been one of my fav twst characters and has been on my home screen for the greater part of two years ;;;; he has so much unexplored depth that people tend to look over and I would really like to write a character study on him (that along with a study on Kalim, and maybe a further study on their friendship dynamic...)(I've been doing a lot of analyzing and interpreting metaphors in my classes,,, the lines between school and hobby are blurring aaahhhh)
TW: Poverty, a little bit of blood but not a lot, injury, insecurity, absent parents, death
Ruggie nervously runs his hands along the now shorter, nearly shaved sides of his head, the fluff that ran between his ears and down the back of his head much more prominent and fluffed out. His ears twitch at the sudden summer breeze, unused to being so open to the elements. He no longer has to blow his bangs out of his eyes, the brown that was once a small portion of his hair now making up the majority, the blonde only coming out when he pushes his hair back with his hand.
His hair had never been cut so close to the sides, never been so short before. He keeps catching himself rubbing his hands over the short strands. Even when he was younger and had to cut it, his grandmother would always leave it a little on the shaggier side, cutting it so that he could see and it didn't cover too much of his neck.
It all started when he was about to return to NRC after spending the duration of summer break in his hometown, picking up extra hours because he didn't have to worry about homework, tutoring the neighborhood kids, and helping his grandmother around the house just as he had before he had to go to school. At some point, it got in his eyes so often that he had to continually tie it back out of his eyes, a short, flower like tuft atop his head with spiky strands sticking out of the sides and the rest of his hair cascading down the back of his neck, another hair tie going to putting that in a small ponytail.
He came home that night, sweaty, tired, and thoroughly worn out from the day. He collapsed on one of the wooden chairs that was in the kitchen, sighing as his grandmother walked in, laughing.
"What...?" He frowns, looking up at the woman.
"Ya look like a show horse," His grandmother holds him close, taking both the ties out and watching as his hair falls around his face, completely obscuring his eyes and draping down his neck. "Don't'cha think you should cut it?"
"Ya think I should?" She hums, detangling the strands with her claws as Ruggie sighs and leans into her comforting touch, allowing his eyes to slip closed as she fixes his hair. She pulls away, cupping his face in her hands and blowing on his face, making him squirm.
"Bibi..." He whines as she pulls away, ducking into one of the cabinets under the sink and rummaging around. "Let me get whatever you're lookin' for, I don't want ya to get hurt-"
She huffs, standing from her position with a groan as she brushed off her skirt, old scissors in hand. "Sit." He does as she says, a little unnerved by the familiar look of determination in her eyes as she brandished the object. "Don't you wanna look put together for your little friend back on campus?"
"Friend...?" He flushes.
"The one you're tryin' to court," She says matter-of-factly as Ruggie feels some of his hair be lifted and he hears the familiar snip of the scissors, watching the sandy strands fall to the ground in thick chunks. The blush creeps up his neck and he pouts.
"Bibi, it's not like that at all!" He winces when she grabs both sides of his head and moves him so he's sitting up straight. "They're just a friend of mine, promise."
"Do not lie to me, mister," She says. "I raised you since you were a minute old, I know ya too well for you to try playin' these tricks on me!"
"Right..." He sighs, staring at his clenched fists that sit in his lap. "It's not gonna get anywhere, though. They don't like me like that." He feels a rush of sadness, his heart aching as their smiling face flashes in their mind, quickly followed by the familiar burn of envy when he thinks about them being with anyone else. Nobody had treated him with such kindness before, nobody had listened to his story in earnest, taken in every detail and attached it to his character rather than just writing him off as a petty thief from the slums.
But even more importantly... nobody else had seen past that. Nobody else had looked him in the eyes and told him that where he came from didn't define his worth, didn't define who he was as a person. That yes, it was a part of him, but it wasn't him.
He was more than a petty thief, more than the slums, more than a deceased mother and absent father. He was Ruggie, and that's all they cared about.
Maybe that's why they were able to capture his closed off heart so easily.
"What makes ya think that?" His grandmother interrupts his train of thought, continuing to cut through his coarse hair, the strands making his neck and back itch until it's nearly unbearable.
"I..." He pauses. "They're smart, and strong, and kind. I-I wouldn't wanna drag them down with me, y'know? They... they deserve more than that."
"If they were really worth this much of your attention, they wouldn't be the kind of person to care about all that," She was right, Ruggie knew that. The prefect wouldn't care to live the kind of life that he had to live, but he didn't want them to. As much as it pained him to say, he wanted for them to not have to fight to live anymore than they already are in Ramshackle.
With a stab of pain to his heart, he realized that he would rather them marry someone like Kalim or Leona- someone with status, wealth, someone that could take care of them and keep them safe, keep them comfortable and happy for the rest of their life.
His grandmother sighs. "If they care about you this much, they'll accept everything about you."
"I-I don't know if they actually care," His gut twists at the thought of them liking him back- a mix of anxiety and excitement that makes him sick to his stomach. He knew it was a lie, though. Of course they cared for him. Of course, after everything they've done...
"They do. They stuck with ya during the Magshift match, didn't they?" She pushes his head down, cutting off another layer of hair from the back. His mind flashes back to that day, the intolerable pain of his throat and lungs being turned to sand, watching parts of his own arm crumble to bits and fall to the ground with drops of his own blood dripping into the dry dirt. And, of course, the prefect pulling him away from Leona, dragging him to safety and holding him in their lap as they tried to get his lungs to function normally, using their blazer to block his face so he wouldn't breathe in any more dust than he already has.
"Breathe, Ruggie," He remembers hearing their soft, shaking voice in his haze, hand rubbing the sides of his throat. "Breathe, please."
And, of course, the other times. Giving him their lunch when they 'weren't hungry', working with him in the Lounge and helping him fight off unruly customers, doing laundry with him, sitting with him while he cried on his eighteenth birthday, the familiar guilt of his life being traded for his mother's filling his heart as it does every year.
They cared. They cared more than anyone besides his grandmother had. That's what scared him the most.
"Listen, kipenzi," The woman's normally gruff voice is soft, taking on a tone that he heard often when he was a little kid. "This person means a lot to ya, I can tell," She resumes, now standing in front of him and cutting his bangs, making him wrinkle his nose and hold in a sneeze. "You're a smart boy, open your eyes and see what's really happening."
"I know I'm bein'..."
"A boy in love. That's what you're bein' right now," She chuckles, taking the hair on the sides of his head off in thick chunks, going shorter than she had with the front and back of his hair. "I know you're not the kind of person to do these things without thinkin', or without fightin' it as much as you can. You've been that way since you were a little boy, y'know?" She chuckles and he closes his eyes, feeling tears well up behind his eyelids. "You're smarter than that, and I know that you know what you're doing."
"I don't-" His voice breaks and he fights the urge to sniffle. Ruggie's face flushed a light pink in embarrassment, crying over a school crush in front of his grandmother, who simply hushes him and wipes his tears with her thumb.
"You do know. You just have to be more confident. I know you can do that. You're my strong, confident little boy," She kisses the space between his eyebrows. "And ya always have been, nobody can change that fact."
"How can I...?" He gulps, trying to hold in his sniffles as she finishes cutting his hair, placing the scissors on the table and pulling him in for a hug, lightly pushing his face into the crook of her neck as he tried to control his breathing, the feeling of doubt that he's become quickly accustomed to muffling any coherent thought he could piece together.
"Do what you always do. That's what attracted them in the first place, no?" He nods as she backs away and hands him a small mirror. He smiles as he looks at his reflection, rubbing the sides and laughing at the rougher texture, playing with his bangs and shaking out the extra hair that may have gotten caught.
He's pulled back to the present, standing in the courtyard brimming with students, new and old. He recognizes some familiar faces; Riddle lecturing some of his new arrivals, the Octavinelle trio practically scaring their new students half to death, Kalim excitedly showing some students around, Epel from Spelldrive club last year adjusting the crown given to the Dorm Leader of Pomefiore every year, Ortho, now donning the Ignihyde Dorm Leader uniform, and the new Dorm Leader and Vice Dorm Leader of Diasomnia, Silver and Sebek, the latter of the two yelling so loud that Ruggie was sure that even the non beastmen could hear him from where he was standing.
His heart leaps when his eyes land on the Prefect, grinning and giving them a wave.
"So," He practically runs up to them, nudging them with his shoulder. "How was summer vacation with the Headmaster?"
They chuckle in response. "Short lived. He sent me to Crewel's after the first two weeks." Ruggie frowns at that, sighing dramatically.
"Oh how terrible~!" They punch him lightly and he laughs. "You seem pretty normal, though, so you weren't tortured or forced to be one of his dogs or anything."
The Prefect nods in response. "You seem pretty normal too, except," They smile, and he feels his heart soar at the sight. "Nice haircut. Trying something different?" He shrugs.
"It's my third year, y'know? Gotta switch things up," He, as if on instinct, pushes his hand along the side of his head.
They smile. "It's cute," He pauses, nearly choking on air as he fights the blush from creeping across his face. "I'm gonna miss the old fluff, though."
"It's still fluffy on top," He simpers, ducking his head. They take the hint and, although hesitant, run their hands through the longer part on top. He bites back a hum of contentment as he feels their delicate touch run along his scalp, brushing over the nearly bare sides before dropping off his head- much sooner than the hyena would have liked.
They smile at him before opening their mouth to say something else, cut off by their first year- well, now second year- friends.
"Prefect! Over here!" The prefect waves at them before turning back to Ruggie. "Hey, so, I have to run. But lets hang out soon, okay? Especially now that you don't have to babysit Leona," They both laugh at that. "See you later, Savanaclaw Dorm Leader."
"Y-yeah, bye!" He watches them run to the former first years, suddenly excited for the school year that lays ahead of him. With a pep to his step, he strides back to the mirror chamber, already planning to decide how he was going to confess.

I was made for loving you (Livia and Leona version)
youtube
'A dangerous plan, just this time'
Livia: *Walks beside Leona, holding an ice cream cone*
Leona: *Stares forward, walking beside her yawning* Let's hurry and get back
Livia: O-Okay...
'A stranger's hand clutched in mine'
Livia: *Grips Leona's hand, staying close as the crowd got bigger* So many people
Leona: You're gripping my hand too tight...
Livia: *Releases his hand, letting it fall to her side* Sorry...
Leona: *Grabs her hand* I said you're gripping it too tight, not to let it go, I don't want that lizard after me
'I'll take this chance, so call me blind'
Livia: *Blinks then smiles and licks her ice cream*
Leona: Finally, it was starting to melt and I was not gonna get you another one
Livia: *Smiles up at him* Sorry!
Leona: *Stares down at her then looks away*
'I've been waiting all my life'
Livia: *Looks up at Leona*
Leona: What...
Livia: Please don't scar this young heart, just take my hand....
Leona: *Stares in surprise then looks away* Whatever...
----
'I was made for loving you'
Livia: LEONA!
Leona: *Huffs as she hugs him* Run again and I'll ban you
Livia: *Beam up at him* Sorry!
'Even though we may be hopeless hearts just passing through'
Leona: I got you peach slices, eat before I throw them away
Livia: Thanks big brother Leona!
Leona: Whatever...
'Every bone screaming, "I don't know what we should do"'
Livia: *Smiles, eating her peaches*
Leona: *Stares at her, then looks away*
'All I know is, darling, I was made for loving you'
----
'Hold me close, through the night'
Leona: *Sits beside Livia, watching her nap*
Livia: *Sleeps soundly, her side rising and falling*
'Don't let me go, we'll be all right'
Ruggie: Leona, I got your lunch!
Leona: *Glares at him* Hush...
Ruggie: Hm?
Leona: *Looks back down at Livia* She's asleep
'Touch my soul and hold it tight'
Leona: *Reaches over and places a hand on Livia's head*
Livia: *Smiles, her ears twitching happily*
'I've been waiting all my life'
Leona: *Stares down at Livia, his expression softening* I won't scar, your young heart
Ruggie: *Perks up shocked*
Leona: *Gently grabs Livia's hand* Just take my hand....
Livia: *Smiles in her sleep, holding his hand*
----
'Cause I was made for loving you'
Leona: Star Hunter!
Livia: *Runs over* BIG BROTHER LEONA!
Leona: I said don't run or else
Livia: *Beams, pressing a kiss to his cheek* Sorry!
'Even though we may be hopeless hearts just passing through'
Leona: I'm taking her...
Lilia: *Stares in surprise* A-Alright...
Livia: Bye!
Lilia: H-Have Fun...
'Every bone screaming, "I don't know what we should do"'
Livia: *Skips ahead of Leona, a smile on her face*
Leona: *Walks after her, smiling slightly* Careful...
Livia: *Nods and looks down, watching her step as she skipped*
'All I know is, darling, I was made for loving you'
----
'Please don't go, I've been waiting so long'
Leona: *Drops a jade bracelet with a opal bat in the middle in Livia's palms* Here, happy Hunt Day
Livia: *Tackle hugs Leona, pressing a kiss to his cheek* THANKS BIG BROTHER LEONA!
Leona: *Stares in surprise, his hair a bit messy from her tackle hug* Y-You're welcome...
'Oh, you don't even know me at all'
Livia: Sorry Leona, I was just so happy!
Leona: Well keep overly hyper affection to a minimum, I get enough from Cheka and Nilu
Livia: *Giggles and nods* Got it!
'But I was made for loving you'
Leona: *Pats Livia's head*
Livia: *Beams up at him*
----
'I was made for loving you'
Leona: *Naps beside Livia, his right hand resting on her back*
Livia: *Smiles, her side rising and falling*
'Even though we may be hopeless hearts just passing through'
Leona: *Opens his eyes and sits up, looking at Livia*
Livia: *Stirs starting to furrow her brows*
Leona: *Pats her back, calming her* It's alright...the nightmare can't hurt you
'Every bone screaming, "I don't know what we should do"'
Livia: *Turns over, facing him, her ears drooping*
Leona: *Scoots closer and lays beside her, gently nudging her hand with his index finger*
Livia: *Sleepily grabs Leona's hand*
Leona: *Stares then smiles, falling asleep*
'All I know is, darling, I was made for loving you'
