Three quarters of the tags are telling you to beware the warnings. Please beware the warnings. There is child death here. It is upsetting. It's questionable whether this counts as a happy ending. It is also an EXTREMELY well written fic that I can't get out of my head. Some of the best characterization of Tim I've read in a long time. Amazing relationships. Superb OCs. Wonderful depiction of how competent and out-of-their-depth young adults are at all times. If you are tougher than me and can handle the dead kid? Strongly, strongly recommend. But PLEASE don't complain to the authour if you can't, they've dealt with enough of that.

He’s lost his parents, he’s lost his fortune, he’s now living in crime alley. Great, stellar, it’s whatever, then he finds a whole ass child bleeding out in an alley

Because Timber has, like, a saviour complex, he’s like ok I’m going to carry this random child into my shitty apartment. When he finishes patching the child he passes out and the next day the child is gone.

Timmy’s like great, he’s gone, idgaf. But no, Timberly, you made a mistake. Bc the child told *other children* about him. Now he was running an under ground medic for homeless children, he’s totally fine, the compartmentalisation skills are coming in hand.

The first kid he saved, Jason, disappeared one day, Tim’s confused and worried (he doesn’t care for him, no sir, why would you say that?) then he’s like ohhhh new Robin = Jason

Then Robin dies, and he’s… *more hurt than he had thought he would be*

After a while he’s still sad, but it’s better, he’s still taking care of the children. Bc it’s what Jason would have wanted, but the fucking red hood gang captures him.

He’s like ohhhhh fuck, this is the end besties. But for some reason this goon named Gary ruined it all. Gary was a little dumb and he ruined the entire terrorising part of the kidnapping.

Jason apparently wanted to kill him because he forgot him? Bullshit? He was depressed?

So I'm finally reading If You Give A Bat a Burger and it reminded me of another fic and I can't tell if was a crossover or not...

Danny (or maybe Tim?) goes to the Iceberg Lounge to steal something from Cobblepot, knocks out a waiter, steals their uniform, and manages to escape but gets noticed and, funnily enough, is told to take the trash out as he leaves. He does so, and later, Batman (and possibly a Robin?) finds him in a dumpster, where the stolen thing was hidden, and he makes some BS story about looking for a ring that belonged to his father.

Think it might've been Tim as Stray or Red X, but my brain keeps saying Danny...

Batman crashes in the wilderness following up a lead in a recent case.

Meanwhile the Fenton family was having a camping trip to celebrate Jazz's last year as a "kid", but considering who suggested the location, it spelt disaster.

Now Danny and Jazz have to survive an onslaught of ghosts, take care of an injured Batman, and while worrying about their parents.

This was the first DPxDC crossover fic I ever read; I saw Impy_'s art from this fic and I just had to know more, and now I'm happily tumbling down the rabbit hole into the wonderland that is the Danny Phantom/Batman crossover verse. Vacation Crashers is the first in a series, which is the best news ever ^w^ 10/10 recommendation!

Bat Ghost by @megaerakles

Bruce is attacked by the ghost of Batman from the future. To get to the bottom of it, he pays a visit to some prominent ghost hunters, and happens to encounter a teenaged half-ghost vigilante (?), who just *happens* to resemble Damian. A lot.

On an unrelated note, Tim Drake has done nothing wrong.

I love fics where the Batfam goes to Amity Park. It's always a good time to watch them out of their element and adapt accordingly. This is a particularly enjoyable rendition, and it's still updating, too!

Exhumed by Marsalias

AU where Danny left behind half his physical body when he half-died. (AKA Corpse AU.)

Marsalias is one of my favorite DP writers, hands down. I really love the Exhumed series in particular, though; the world-building is excellent, the OCs are wonderful, and the writing is skillful.

Trust Your Instincts by @peachdoxie

A new kind of danger threatens Amity Park. With no other leads, Maddie Fenton turns to the one individual that might be able to help: Danny Phantom. Meanwhile, after a near death experience, she begins to question everything she knows about ghosts.

Excellent Maddie-centric fic where a near-death experience forces her to confront her own prejudices and misconceptions around ghosts, as well as the failings of her own scientific hubris. Currently on hiatus, but this fic was my obsession this past spring. Features cool OCs, interesting ecto-science, and lots of heartfelt/heartwrenching conversations.

Batman only

Loading and Aspect Ratio by Jube514

A world where nobody has wings, but people think they do, and that changes everything. (A Batfam Wingfic with a twist)

An excellent twist on the wingfic trope that really suits Batman. Features a Good Dad!Bruce who leans into the misconception that Batman is a cryptid because a)it's funny and b) it's convenient.

Taako is The Winter Soldier and Lup is Captain America AU

This is one of the best stories I've ever read, hands down. I've read it about four times *at least*. Even if you are not familiar with The Adventure Zone or The Winter Soldier (MCU), it's written so well that you can enjoy it without context.

TMA: The Magnus Institute vs the 21st Century: a series of emails and IMs by @shinyopals

What happens if the Magnus Institute gets a Data Protection Officer? What's it like to work in Tech Support? How are employee reviews conducted when your manager is Peter Lukas? This series does its best to answers these sorts of hard-hitting questions about office life at the Institute.

If you aren't familiar with The Magnus Archives it might be a bit hard to follow, but this epistolary fic has some of the best CSS coding and humor I've ever seen.

Anyway picking just a few was really difficult because I read a lot! I think every fic I've ever read has affected me in some way. But these are some of the ones most special to me. I hope you enjoy them!

Just Read 'Take It Back Now Y'all' by TimTheToaster. If you can handle child death and a somewhat bleak ending, I strongly recommend it. EXTREMELY well written time travel fic about Tim ending up in the Dick!Robin era and trying not to get involved with his family and upset the timestream.

I, however, can NOT handle child death and the lack of any catharsis. So I'm going to process that here. I think I managed to write a positive comment on the fic itself. It's really good! The authour deserves all the positivity. Just. Just ...

I wouldn't have read it if I knew the relationship was going to be used to break Tim further! Things only get better for characters who aren't central to the story! Tim successfully avoids getting involved with his family, and it sucks big time! The authour identified the central tragedy in Tim's life and then DECIDED TO REINFORCE IT. Why???

There WAS a warning to check the end notes at the start of the specific death chapter, but I missed it. And it wouldn't have been enough, even if I had noticed. It wasn't a story I should have been reading at all. I needed a real tag warning Major Character Death right from the start, even though it wasn't going to happen until near the end of a 30+ chapter fic.

I'm not at all mad at the authour. Like, it happened to hit exactly at my weak point. They're not responsible for that. They don't know all my triggers. I'm mostly disappointed that I can't read more of their work, because this was one of the fics that I held back to savour.

And also, I'm all emotional, because I got triggered and that SUCKS. It wasn't even GOOD crying. Just the sucky kind that requires a bunch of self-soothing after. Moderately unpleasant and I can't even fall apart, because I'm too healthy now and can deal. So I just gotta deal. Yuck.
