Bro, Poseidon is my favorite too. I low-key feel bad for Percy in all of the series, though. I decided to do this one differently for this request to keep it interesting.

Fun fact: I have studied Latin for 5 years and quite a bit of it was translating Roman Myths.

Riddle Rosehearts

Child of: Aphrodite

His mother never let him read about mythology of Twisted Wonderland besides of the Great Seven, so he’s kind of clueless about things like this. When he first sees you, his face gets red because you’re just so beautiful and kind.

Your powers have to do with the matter of love, which is kind of hard when all of the boys are falling head-over-heels for you. Luckily, your mother was worshiped for being a goddess of war so you were able to dodge each of them… except for Riddle. He swept you away, and now you both can be seen enjoying tea while looking into each other’s eyes with a lovestruck gaze.

Once, you caught someone talking crap about your lover and you weren’t having it. You nodded as though you were agreeing with the guy, getting closer and closer until you were straddling them with a knife on their neck.

Riddle had to rush over and save the student by gently taking you away, promising that he would be dealt with in a less violent manner. He does appreciate how protective you get because he’s the same exact way. You both are a force to be reckoned with.

When you tell him about your 15 (possibly 16) siblings, he just stares at you dumbfounded. You have how many siblings? You tell him about Eros, the most popular, and how he fell for a mortal and she became a goddess. You went on to explain that you found it ridiculous when you were younger but now that you were with your boyfriend, you understood everything. He blushed a little, but bowed and placed a kiss on the back of your hand in response.

Leona Kingscholar

Child of: Hypnos

He knows a lot about mythology because of his status as a prince and the training he had as a young child. If you were a child born to the royal family, chances are you were educated in the beliefs and religions of a multitude of different cultures.

Your powers have to do with sleep itself. You can’t really bring dreams, but you can give someone the knock out of their lives. If Leona has been having a horrible day, you would put your hand on his forehead and make him go into a very deep sleep. It’s the kind of sleep that you wake up from at 3 pm, you feel me?

One time, one of the Savanaclaw students was talking smack right to your face. Leona was about to yell at them, but you slapped their forehead and made them go to sleep right then and there. You threatened everyone else that if someone else were to do anything like that, you would put them into a sleep they would never wake up from.

Leona was so freaking proud of you, but he knew that Crowley would be on his ass if he found out about this incident, so he asked you to wake the student up. He had to hold back a smirk when you rolled your eyes and slapped the student back to consciousness.

When you tell him about your 3 brothers, he’s a little intrigued. The four of you must’ve wreaked havoc on everyone, especially since you could put people to sleep and your brothers could control their dreams. You smile as you tell him about all the good times you had, and he smiles as well. It sounds like one hell of a time.

Azul Ashengrotto

Child of: Poseidon

Like I mentioned in the Vice Housewarden version of this, he bows down to you. You are of the same status as King Trident. He will offer you his arm for you to take and he will give you a tour of the campus. He makes sure that you know you can come to him if you’re having any troubles.

Your powers give you control over water and the creatures that reside within. That being said, your dates often occur at the beach. He prefers to stay on the sand while you go for a swim. When you come out of the water, Azul has to hide his face in his hands. You just looked so attractive with the water dripping off of you!-

One time, Floyd was being very uncooperative and wasn’t doing his job. Azul and Jade had to tell him off a few times, and you even gave him a few reminders, but you were officially done. You decided to make him a fish out of water. You brought out his tail and he started flopping around like a fish on the deck of a boat. You and a few other customers started laughing hysterically.

Azul heard all of the laughter and walked out of his office to see Floyd on the floor, Jade trying to help Floyd, and you and a bunch of customers laughing. He asked his Vice Housewarden what happened and he was shocked that you would do something like this out of annoyance. He talks you into returning Floyd’s legs and leads you away to calm down.

When you tell him about your 14 siblings, you’re most likely answering some of his many questions. Who wouldn’t love to learn about the King of the Sea when he was a small child? Or the imperial family of the sea in general? It’s amusing how many stories you have stored away in your mind, and he will make time to listen to them all.

Kalim Al-Asim

Child of: Dionysus

You both are fairly energetic and are most definitely party animals. Jamil has one hell of a time trying to control the two of you because of all the energy you two have. Everywhere you go, you just light up a room.

Your powers, as horrifying as it is, allow you to make someone go insane. You’ve been ridiculed for it and you want to try and prove to everyone that you can do good things. You hide this pain by throwing the best of parties and festivals, and Kalim doesn’t suspect anything.

One day, you were planning another festival when a couple of students decided to ruin your day completely. They started taunting you and acting like the insane patients in movies when you felt a little snap in your mind. You grabbed one of them by their shoulders and forced them to look into your eyes. The student looked like they had seen a ghost, and started screaming while looking around frantically. They dropped to the floor and started rocking back and forth.

Kalim and Jamil heard these shrieks and saw a bunch of students around that one and you laughing hysterically. Jamil went to the rocking guy and Kalim went to you to ask what happened. You explain that you had the power to make someone go batshit crazy and that’s exactly what you did. He convinces you to have them snap out of it or else they could seriously injure someone. You saw the puppy eyes he put on and released them (from your genjutsu).

When you tell Kalim about your 9 other siblings, he tells you about his 30+ siblings. You both have big families back home, so you get to relate on more levels than just one. It’s hilarious how you are able to remember the names of each other’s siblings as well.

Vil Schoenheit

Child of: Apollo

You were bright in every sense of the word. With your father being the God of the Sun, Light, Music, and Prophecy, it was hard not to take after him. This is what drew Vil to you. You were just so open and confident, as though you had nothing to be ashamed of.

Your power was the gift of vision and prophecy. You could see what was going to happen in the future. You had the chance to change the future so no harm would be inflicted on anyone. Vil was always in the visions you had about yourself. It was a secret you kept to yourself, but it always made you blush.

One day, as you were speaking to Vil while playing your guitar (you are as gifted as your father is, after all), a random guy decided to shove you and ‘apologize’ while laughing. You looked at him, silently questioning his audacity. You then shouted to the guy, saying something along the lines of I would watch your back, buddy. Your friends are just looking for a point to stab your back. You were known for your visions, so the guy got a scared look on his face before walking off.

Vil asked if it was true and you shook your head while laughing. He called you a very mischievous potato before going back to whatever he was originally doing. There was no shame or harm in instilling fear in someone who wronged you, after all.

While talking, you brought up your 4 brothers. There were many plays about your brother Orpheus, but you told your boyfriend the whole story. How he had no way of knowing if Eurydice was following behind him and that’s why he had to look. You ended your mini rant by stating that you would’ve done the same thing if you were both in his and her shoes. Vil felt a fluttering feeling in his stomach, but thanked you nonetheless.

Idia Shroud

Child of: Demeter

Are you really surprised? You had two green thumbs just like your mother. You both ‘met’ when Ortho was taking Idia’s tablet all around the campus so that his brother could accompany him without taking a step outside.

You had the power to make any plant grow. Be it big or small, you were able to breathe life into it and make it thrive like never before. You had agreed to meet up with Ortho in the greenhouse so that you could go over some class material. You had a green t-shirt with some jean overalls and gardening gloves and Idia saw you through the camera. You looked adorable.

Because of your genuinely cheerful and kind personality, Idia found it a tad bit easier to talk to you. He was still a bit reserved, but he stuttered a few questions out to let you know that he was genuinely interested in what you had to say. However, when a student came over and tipped your gardenia plant over, your kind personality turned murderous. The otaku saw vines shoot out and wrap themselves around the neck of the student.

After some very harsh and threatening words from you, you let them go and they scampered away like a scared cat. You turned and saw Ortho standing there in shock and you immediately went to apologize when Idia turned on his camera. He was genuinely dying of laughter because the guy was acting all tough before running away like a total wimp. His smile gave you butterflies, you thought he looked so charming.

When you get to a point where you’re no longer talking about plants but genuinely getting to know each other as a group, you tell the brothers about your 7 siblings. Idia stared in total shock when you said the number. You giggled at his reaction, and his face and hair went a bit red. You told him about the many adventures all of you had when you were younger and you both laughed at how silly some of them were.

Malleus Draconia

Child of: Hades

As a child of Hades himself, you were often alone. You were often seen as gloomy and depressing, and everyone tended to steer clear. Everyone except the Diasomnia dorm members. In fact, you all were a lot alike in that aspect.

Your power was the ability to raise the dead for a brief period of time and command them as though they were an army (please tell me you get the reference here. The fruit is so low). It assisted you a lot when you had to go against all of the overblots. Malleus was impressed because you couldn’t raise the dead with magic, but you were doing it right there.

Because of your gloominess, people tend to make fun of you for it. You weren’t the strongest, so they would think you couldn’t do anything about it. You didn’t want to draw attention to yourself, so you just suffered. One day, you had enough. The students who were harassing you felt the earth tremble beneath their feet. The concrete split and hands encased in rotten flesh broke through the dirt underneath. 

That got them running faster than Forrest Gump. You were laughing maniacally when Malleus came walking by. He asked you what was going on and he was greatly amused when you told him. His Child of the Gods was so smart by using your power to get them to stop.

On one of your nightly walks, you open up more about your family. With what he’s heard about mythology, he expected you to have more siblings than just the two. And the first one was complicated anyways. You had more memories with your sister, so you often stuck to those ones. He loved hearing about your close relationship with Macaria because he’s glad that you didn’t grow up alone.

What are your all-time favorite outfits from Twisted Wonderland?

Hello @letterstoear, thank you for ask! I've had a lot of fun making this post, and I'm so sorry that it took forever to answer!

Every time I was certain I had my list narrowed down, I remembered another outfit I really liked. (Also, I'm a little bit biased, as you will see...haha). This time, I focused on event outfits to make it easier for myself. Maybe in the future I'll post my "reviews" on dorm uniforms or Halloween costumes.

I am always blown away by the the little details that Yana Toboso and the rest of the design team have added to each of characters' outfits, because they give some interesting insight to their personalities and backgrounds.

Without further ado, let's discuss some outfits! (Please note that there are spoilers for upcoming events from the JP server, as well as some groovy arts!)

My Favorite Twisted Wonderland Outfits

10. Floyd's Outdoor Wear (Vargas Camp)

Most of the outfits on my list are on the extravagant side. I recently bought a volume of Black Butler, where there was a note about how Yana Toboso loves to draw clothing, and it truly shows.

But in contrast to seeing our beloved characters in over-the-top costumes, it's refreshing to see them wearing casual outfits once in a while as well and see their individual, everyday styles.

I'll admit that I haven't played any of the Vargas Camp events, and have a grand total of zero (0) cards from this series. I'm not sure why; I always miss the event's runtime for some reason.

Still, I've always loved Floyd's little sling bag with the eel keychain, as well as the teal visor. The bright colors stand out and are appealing.

The whole outfit looks like something you could get from a store like Uniqlo, and sometimes it is nice to have that sort of realism in a magical game. He looks like an ordinary teenager I could find on the street. Except...if I did find Floyd on the street, I'd be running in the other direction. But that's not the main idea here.

9. Azul's Glorious Masquerade Outfit

At first, I sort of forgot that this SSR existed. When the PV for Glorious Masquerade came out, I was more focused on Malleus.

However, eventually, many people began to cosplay as GloMas Azul, and they all looked so amazing. I began to appreciate the outfit more after seeing people pose and dance in it. Azul also tends to have some of the best fanart, and fans have spared no expense when drawing him wearing this.

My favorite part of the outfit is his coat. I like the silhouette it creates with a high-waist belt, and the long coattails that resemble tentacles. The ruffles on his trousers are cute, too. I would buy a pair if I could. Unfortunately, it's hard to see these details on his in-game sprite.

As for his accessories, the pearls are so dramatic (and so very Azul). His round glasses are also cute, I hope he wears them again!

8. Idia's Suitor Suit

One look at Idia's Ghost Marriage outfit, and you can really tell that it was designed by Yana Toboso. His gloves, coat, and cravat make him look like he's in the Victorian Era. Also, doesn't he look sort of like Grelle from Black Butler?

Speaking of Grelle, Idia's outfit is meant to look more like funeral attire, between the long, black coat and the lilies pinned to his shoulder. There are also skulls hidden throughout his outfit, such as on his jacket chain and cufflinks. I was still new to TWST at the time, so I just thought that Idia liked gothic clothing. I didn't realize he was (at least in his mind) attending his own funeral!

Let's not forget his new hairstyle! This is one of Idia's first SSRs if I remember correctly, so it was exciting to see him with a ponytail.

My love for this outfit also comes from my love for the story associated with it. Fans have pointed out that Idia's "arranged marriage" with Eliza parallels the myth of Hades and Persephone. The design team and Yana were so clever for this.

I don't have this card, either, but I hope to pick him up one day!

7. Ortho's Fairy Gear

The Shroud brothers are luckyーthey are probably two of the characters with the most SSRs in the game.

That being said, we all have to agree that Ortho's fairy gear is one of the most unique and avant-garde cards in the game.

I really enjoy the white and gold color scheme in this event. His color-changing wings are stunning, and the piece covering his eyes makes him look very mysterious.

I thought this card was cool when I first saw it, but then I learned that Ortho's outfit and hair can turn pink, which is even better.

Every time I see his "pointe shoes," it makes me imagine Ortho and Idia trying to learn how to dance together in Idia's room, and Idia obsessively studying ballet costumes for his younger brother.

Yet again, I don't have this card, but my best friend does! At least I can admire him from her phone...

6. Silver's Rabbit Wear

There is no way that this outfit is just an R card! When this card was first advertised in one of the JR rail train stations, the pictures showed this card with Deuce's hometown in the background instead of the standard Diasomnia R background, so I thought that this card would at least be an SR. (Although I can't complain so much, because that means it's free!)

Silver is so princely. I am convinced that he can look good in anything. I am fond of pastel colors, and the pink/blue color scheme suits him, as the TWST version of Aurora. The bows may be silly, but I find them adorable.

Compared to the other boys in this event, Silver's outfit looks a little more like a soldier's (albeit a toy soldier's or a nutcracker's), which is a cool touch.

5. Deuce's Rabbit Wear

Deuce's hometown event was truly one of my favorite events that came out in the JP sever last year. Not only were some of my most favorite characters there, but they were dressed up in the most whimsical outfits possible. (And we got to meet Deuce's motherーshe's the coolest!)

Since Deuce is the main character of this event, his outfit bears the most resemblance to the white rabbit's in most classic illustrations, complete with a bow tie, top hat, and, of course, his pocket watch. His outfit has a blue color scheme. Like Azul in GloMas, Deuce also wears round glasses in his groovy art. Overall, it looks like the sweet ouji style, although I'm not very familiar with this sub-fashion. If anyone who is reading this has studied/worn this style of fashion, please let me know!

I used to play Love Nikki and Shining Nikki (two fashion-themed gacha games), which also featured lolita dresses inspired by Alice in Wonderland characters. For this reason, Deuce's outfit in particular feels very nostalgic to me.

4. Lilia's Right General Armor

Here's another departure from the cute pastel outfits...

Sleeping Beauty was one of my favorite Disney movies as a child. I always remembered Maleficent's "goons" as short, silly little creatures wearing simple green tunics.

So how on earth did we get to Right General Lilia Vanrouge?!

Seriously, I'm just stunned by how the artists looked at the source material and created something so radically, yet wonderfully, different.

I'm curious about the green stones (jades?) on his outfit--around his waist, there are several pieces attached to tassels, and he has two strapped to his right leg. The material matches the stone used for his weapon. Maybe it represents his status in Briar Valley. If you check his (unposed) sprite, you can also see that he is wearing something around his waist that looks like folded bat wings.

Like everyone else, I'm obsessed with his long hairーit makes him look so formidable, especially with that hood. My friends and I like to joke that his ponytail makes him look like a character in a Chinese martial arts drama.

Again, the story associated with this card made me love it even more. Few books have made me cry as much as Book 7 of TWST.

3. Malleus' Glorious Masquerade Outfit

While Sleeping Beauty was my favorite movie as a young child, when I got older, I began to love The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It was only natural for this outfit to be among my favorites for this reason.

There are so many details here. The feathered hat. The sheer sleeves. The golden embroidery. The split cape. It's honestly overwhelming to take in at once.

I can say that my favorite detail is his green earrings. They really bring out his eye color, and the PV made them so sparkly.

In addition, everyone I've ever seen who has cosplayed as GloMas Malleus or has drawn fanart of him has increased my appreciation of this outfit.

[Now for some very spoiler-y stuff] The fact that this event came just before the release of Chapter 7 is worth noting. Doesn't it feel a bit tragic that just before Malleus' overblot, we have a chance to see him wearing an outfit that makes him look especially like his mother, having fun and being the star at the masquerade? And what about the feathers on his shouldersーdo they hint at another side of his family? There's so much foreshadowing and mystery going on, and nothing is more suitable for the occasion than masquerade attire.

2. Kalim's New Year Attire

I've already rambled about how sentimental this outfit is to me in a previous post, but in summary: New Year is my favorite holiday, and the New Year's Sale event was the first event I "seriously" participated in. Kalim looks excessively cute and festive in his kimono, and every time I see this card, I feel nostalgic and in the holiday mood.

1. (Tied) Epel's Applepom Outfit and Riddle's Beach Outfit

I'm really sorry, Epel and Riddle are my favorite characters, and in the end, I refuse to chose between them. They're like my younger brothers! I try to collect all of their cards, so I pay attention to their outfits the most, and picking only one outfit for each character was a challenge in itself.

My favorite part of Epel's Applepom outfit is his cloak. It looks so fluffy and warm. When you set him as your home screen character, you also have the option to "swap looks" and see his outfit without the cloak--the apple embroidery on the rest of his outfit is very detailed. Many fans have mentioned that the outfits people wear in Harveston resemble traditional Scandinavian clothing, which is really cool!

The little apple slices on his cap are everything.

And I'm always happy to see characters in different hairstyles, such as Epel's little ponytail.

One of my headcanons is that you're allowed to call Epel cute, but only when he wears this specific outfit, because he takes it as a complement to his culture.

As for Riddle, we're all so used to seeing him wearing formal suits. It's so nice to see him loosening up for once. He looks so happy, now that he has the chance to see the ocean for the first time!

I also happened to be on vacation at the beach around the time this event came out, so it felt like a gift.

I have to laugh a little, because there are so many flowers on his outfit. Even Jack pointed it out in the story. But he looks so cute!

I suppose we have to discuss the elephant in the room. My friend saw it before me, so she spammed me with messages along the lines of "RIDDLE IS WEARING A CROP TOP!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!" and I naturally thought she was pranking me. But lo and behold, it's the truth. I like to headcanon that among the rest of the cast in this event, everyone has made an unspoken mutual agreement not to mention it. This Victorian child has already been through enough, and not a word must reach Mrs. Rosehearts.

Characters: Ace Trappola, Deuce Spade, Cater Diamond, Trey Clover, Riddle Rosehearts.

Summary: A simple trip made to retrieve your deceased family member’s belongings spirals into a fall leading to a magic world. To survive, you must enroll in a prestigious university of magics. It's revealed that you do indeed have magic–– you're a rare witch known as a "creator." With your hands, you can create life and shape beings that have darker intentions. (the world is not twisted wonderland and the university is not night raven college, I promise)

Note: New series when the others are not yet finished, yay. Y’all know me by now, this is how I roll. I write what’s fun, when I want to. Anyways, I had this idea because this is actually a concept I had for one of my own stories! It’s called “The Creator” and it revolves around my ocs (yanderes). It’s on Quotev which is linked in the pinned post of my profile, if anyone is interested. But anyways, I thought this concept might be fun with the twst cast. Might write more for others characters and even more detailed parts another time, if people like this enough. Feel free to ask stuff about this concept/au. I feel like writing for this right now, and I’m curious to see what kind of ideas y’all have and if they interest me enough to write scenarios and stuff for it. 

Somehow you fell through the door of an antique shop into a magic world filled with monsters, witches, wizards, and other creatures of myths and legends. All you wanted to do was retrieve some items from some deceased family members, items that the shopkeeper was keeping safe for you. Well, you got the items and a necklace with a key, but you tumbled through a portal instead of the exit. It somehow led you to go from average broke tired college student, to magical broke tired college student miraculously accepted into a prestigious university of magics. 

The headmaster gave you a quick lesson and overview. You were accepted purely because it was discovered that you were a rare type of magic user called a “creator.” As the headmaster explained it, creators use elements and magic to make creations, beings made of elemental magic with souls from other realms. Creations being some of the most revered beings in history. There are three stages creations can go through, the greatest skip the beginning stages. Most very young creators, when making a creation, end up with a creation in the first stage, the soul stage. It just looks like a peculiar blob of an element, and can’t do much yet. With enough growth, or if you’re lucky enough, you’ll end up with a second stage creation, the beast stage. At that point the creation’s taken the form of some type of animal, not much more useful. The real treasure is the final stage! If you’re skilled enough and just have dumb luck, you’ll get a creation in the mortal stage! These beings are the strongest of all, they’ll appear as people that can manipulate the element they’re made of! Be cautious though, these mortal creations can be quite fickle and since they’re essentially their own person, so they tend to have minds of their own. Creations have been known to leave, betray, or even kill their own creators if they’re treated badly or simply don’t like their maker. 

The headmaster of the university will allow you to stay with shelter, food, and other necessities, as long as you attend classes and become a star pupil, so the school can boast about their rare creator student! Besides, you don’t have much of a choice since you don’t have anything with you except the items you had when you fell through the door. Not to mention there’s an evil emperor who killed most creators in the past and keeps those remaining strictly regulated under his command. You wouldn’t want to be thrown out into the public and be hunted down for simply being blessed with a certain type of magic, would you? 

Back to the lesson, there are nine elements in three categories. The easiest elements to master or make a creation out of are water, plant, ice, electric and fire. Then air and earth. Most stop there, but the two strongest and rarest of all are dark and light! Did you get that? Good, because the headmaster will be giving you a test! Not your standardized exam, oh no. They will be testing you on your creating abilities, and in order to pass you must show them a living breathing creation you made all on your own. So make a creation by the deadline and remain safe on campus, or fail and be hunted down by the emperor. 

GRIM

To say you were nervous on your first day of class would be a major understatement. You were terrified. You had been tossed into this strange world, and one wrong move could get you killed. The judgmental stares of other students, witches and wizards, did not help in the slightest. That’s when you found a gray cat wandering around on campus grounds, Grim. You weren’t expecting to befriend a talking cat as soon as you arrived, but he was by far the nicest one here. Even if he wasn’t very nice at first, it was considerably better than others.

This was how you encountered Grim and he soon became your familiar, with the agreement that he was allowed to stay on campus and study magic just as you did. If you could, you’d place the burden of studying on him, but you’d rather not place your life in the paws of a monster cat who can’t sit still for one minute. Still, he was good company, albeit mischievous. It was actually nice to have a friend, and he quickly moved into your large dorm that was empty, seeing as you were the only creator student at this university. Grim was a hassle, but he tended to listen to you and stay out of trouble if you told him so. He would sit in your lap, helping you read over the textbooks of how to create, the same books that for some reason were in the crate of objects belonging to deceased relatives of your family.

No one knew how to create except professional creators under the emperor, and you were pretty new at this whole thing. Not about to waltz up to another creator and ask for advice in fear of exposing yourself, you and Grim consulted books after books. Only your books, since the huge university library held no information about the actual creating process. So together with your feline familiar, you managed to formulate a rough idea of how the procedure would work. After a few days, you both managed to map out the steps. 

Step one: the setting. There had to be enough space for a cauldron, candles, and pentagram. It had to be in a private location with no onlookers, since it was a personal and confidential ceremony. Only the creator and their familiar could be present. All the windows and blinds had to be shut, the doors locked, they couldn’t risk anyone peeking.

Step two: offerings and ingredients. To attract a soul from another realm, there had to be offerings that would appeal to them. Anything will do, as long as someone would like it. Ingredients would have to be added to the base in the cauldron, which would help form the actual body of the creation once an element later became present to solidify it.

Step three: the pentagram. Various types of pentagrams could be used. It’s not entirely certain what they are there for. Some books theorized that it dictated what realm the soul would be from, others believed it would help sway the creation to become a certain type of element. Again, no one is sure, but it is necessary and it must have candles as well.

Step four: the incantation and sacrifice. A special incantation must be said. It is said that the incantation is typically a greeting, proclamation, or creating of a contract. Some incantations are copied from one another, but most creators choose to write their own incantations to make the moment even more special. To top it all off, a sacrifice must be presented. Not like a goat or cat or anything, no. It had to be something from your body. It couldn’t be a strand of hair or drop of blood, that was not nearly enough to create anything. It was usually a limb, but the books said to never offer your heart, mind, or soul. The sacrificed part wouldn’t be taken away. The only time a sacrificed body part would be stolen, is if your creation happens to die, then that part you offered to them will disappear just as your creation will vanish.

Now that you reviewed everything, on to the hard part... actually creating a creation...

HEARTSLABYUL

Step one: the setting. Check. All furniture was pushed aside, the blinds were closed and the doors were all locked.

Step two: offerings and ingredients. Honestly, you weren’t sure what kinds of items would attract a soul from another realm. So, you went to the store on campus where the owner gave you a discount if you promised to bring your creation when you were done. From the store, you purchased a variety of items with the allowance the headmaster gave you for the project. Perhaps the soul might be thirsty which is why you bought and brewed some rose tea in a cheap porcelain cup, although thinking about it now it was silly because how would a soul be thirsty? There had been black glasses on a rack labeled 25% off, a pack of different flavors of ramen which you could eat later if the souls didn’t want it, a cute tiny wind-up chick toy that was less than $5, and a heart shaped pillow, among various other objects. Really, you bought anything cheap and anything of interest. For the ingredients, you were able to take supplies from the potionology class, which included things for the cauldron such as soot, molten liquids, banshee blood, rare flower petals, and many other ingredients you had never once heard of. 

Step three: the pentagram. For this first ritual, you opted to copy one of the pentagrams drawn in the textbooks. The chalk you used marked the spot on the wooden floorboards, created bits of fine white dust along the lines of shapes. The circle was less than perfect, but it was complete and it wasn’t too bad after your fifth attempt at redrawing it. The candles were also cheap scented ones from the store. Lighting them made the room smell like roses, tea, and baked goods.

Step four: the incantation and sacrifice. You followed the vague instructions on the book, using a paint brush and white paint to mark an X over your left arm for the sacrifice. This was just a trial run. Even if something did happen, you would keep your arm until the creation died. It would be alright, you assured yourself. Now, for the incantation. 

Clearing your throat, you picked up the journal and proceeded unsurely and awkwardly, “Um… I offer up this left limb as sacrifice, so souls hear my plea. May any spirit find satisfaction with these gifts I humbly bear.” Wasn’t this next part supposed to be about a specific element to hopefully sway the soul to become a certain type of element? Well, you weren’t really picky. You read how many creating rituals ended in failure, so you just hoped that it worked. It didn’t matter what kind of element the creation was.

Grim hung dangerously close to the edge of the cauldron, curiously peering into the stew of seemingly random ingredients thrown in and mixed haphazardly. The blue flames of his ears and tail helped to keep the room dimly lit. His unnatural blue eyes then shifted from the insides of the cauldron to the mess of items around the pentagram which included toys, snacks, knick-knacks, and other items that could’ve been found at a dollar store. “Whatever you put in this thing looks like vomit. You really think this mess is gonna attract an otherworldly being?”

“Shh! I’m incantating! Where was I…? Oh, right! Whether you be of dark or light, earth or sky, sea or flames, green as nature, cold as ice, or like the blinding lightning, all I ask for is a reply! By these hands I––”

“Pffft––”

“I’m trying my best here!” You hissed at the cackling cat. Him rolling around the ground in laughter at your attempt was sure to mess up the chalk pentagram. Once his laughing died down and only a smug smile remained on his whiskered face as he sat on the rim of the cauldron, you begrudgingly lifted your left arm and continued with less enthusiasm, “As the first creator did, I ask for magic life to grace this land. By hand I created, please reveal the creation, oh grand…!”

In that instant, the flames on the candles went out, leaving the room in near darkness. The only source of light left was Grim’s blue fire. Looking at the gray cat, you rolled your eyes as his attempt to make you believe something happened. “That’s not very convincing, Grim.” 

“That… That wasn’t me!”

It only took a moment for you to feel strange, your entire left arm became numb and you felt somewhat woozy as you attempted to steady yourself on the cauldron. In that instant, a hot burst of air came up from the cauldron, sending you and your feline companion stumbling back against the dark. Smoke arose from the cauldron, growing higher and higher, almost touching the ceiling until–– BOOM! 

There was a powerful blast like a clap of thunder, blinding you and making your ears ring. The candles had magically been relit, and the cauldron was on its side now. Instead of the mix inside of the cauldron leaking out, there floated five peculiar orbs. 

Ace Trappola 

The first orb, the one on the very left, was a soft scarlet color. Like the others, it floated in mid-air, making no movements, but you knew it was alive. It was like it was a ball of gravity-defying jelly, emitting a glowing light. It was only when Grim became brave enough to not only approach it but to poke it, did it spring to life. 

As soon as your feline familiar touched it, the red orb grew bright and hot, like a ball of flames, until its shape expanded into that of a young man. His body was covered by simple red silk, keeping him from being indecent. The messy ginger hair on his head reminded you of the shape of fire, and on his cheeks were freckles that looked like the small airborne embers of flames. Even his eyes, like scarlet, reminded you of the red color of fire. That’s when his red eyes became focused on you. 

The young man stretched an arm behind his head, looking annoyed. But as soon as his gaze landed on you, he seemed just as taken aback as you were, apparently not expecting any company. His cheeks turned a deep vermillion, it felt as if flames would start shooting from his fingertips as he exclaimed, 

“Y-You?! You’re the one that summoned me? You're kidding me! Obviously this cat and his stubby little paws didn’t do it! Wait, hold on a second, let me get this whole thing straight. You are supposed to be my creator?” 

Ace was the first creation to take proper shape. For some reason, it seemed that this otherworldly being settled for the heart shaped pillow among the pile of inexpensive offerings. It seems that there were a few items in the cauldron that helped him take shape as a fire creation. Perhaps it was the tongue of a fire breathing lizard and sprinkled soot from an ancient flame that helped bring him to life. 

As mentioned before, Ace is a fire creation, although not a very good one judging by the lack of control over his powers. But that can be improved over time with training and experience. Well, he doesn’t have complete control of his powers yet, but he has enough power to burn your enemies––! What? He’s joking! …Maybe. 

When asked about his previous life in the realm he came from, he shrugs and admits he wasn’t a person of high standing or anything. All he remembers is trying to incite a rebellion or something, but he won’t say why or against who. 

Wow, Grim is seriously your only friend? That’s kinda pathetic, no offense, Grim (the cat is very offended). Well, guess he has no choice but to call himself your best friend! You won’t have to sit alone in class and go all day without a conversation, because now he’s here! This may have not been a good idea, because now Ace won’t stop pestering you. 

He gets very irritating if someone else that isn’t one of your own creations tries to take up too much of your time. It’s so obvious that he’s jealous as he casually wraps an arm around your shoulder and frowns at the poor person just trying to ask you about a class assignment. He’s joked about roasting them with his flames, but is he really joking…? 

This is a second chance, you gave him another chance at life. It was something he never expected, but he’s definitely not gonna waste it! This time, he’ll use this life to live happily, without any oppressive rules. And he gets to live this second life with the person who gave him the second chance, he wouldn’t trade this away for anything else in the world! 

Deuce Spade 

The second orb, the one that had been closest to Ace, was a dark shade of blue. It floated somewhat sleepily, looking like a ball of blue jello until the fire creation nudged it so that the blob jolted upright and awake. It crackled, glowing dangerously at the sudden touch that woke it so suddenly. 

You had expected the orb to maybe drip liquids, since it must’ve been a water creation judging by its color, right? Wrong. Instead, it crackled and popped, in a bright flash it expanded rapidly into another young man. Like Ace, he too was covered in red silk. But he was noticeably different, with short dark blue hair and bright cyan eyes. What caught your eye was a strange long scar across his left arm, like small branches that spread across his flesh. You recognized those scars, that type of mark could only be found in those struck by lightning. 

The fresh creation looked down with interest at the cauldron beside him, somehow missing the cat, fellow creation, and creator just a few feet away. When Ace finally had enough of watching his clueless counterpart, he called him out and made their presence known. Immediately the blue creation jumped, startled judging by the small buzz of electricity his hand gave off, he looked shocked to see others there. 

“Ow…! Wait, that didn’t hurt–– Oh, no, introductions first––! It’s nice to meet you, creator!! Ah–– I’m sorry!!! I only meant to shake your hand! I didn’t mean to shock you, I promise! This is all going so wrong…” 

Whatever could have attracted a second creation? Why, the windup chick toy, of course. What else could an otherworldly being desire? Okay, but seriously, you have no idea why he picked that as his offering but he seems to like it. Anyways, you were able to deduce which ingredients formed this creation. It must’ve been the thunder caps (uncommon mushrooms that only sprout during a thunderstorm) and herbs from a blitz bush (a specific type of bush that changes when struck by lightning). 

It’s fairly obvious now that Deuce is no water creation, but an electric creation. Like Ace, he had little control of his powers. Well, it made sense for him to be an electric creation. Fires tend to spark after lightning strikes, and whenever there’s trouble, it’s Deuce that tends to get involved first before bringing in Ace.

If you ask about his previous life, he’ll answer that he doesn’t recall the minor details. All he can remember is that he was fighting a lot. When he was young and stupid, and then he was still fighting as he got older. Why? He thinks he was fighting for a good cause but… he can’t recall for certain. 

Deuce feels bad when you tell him about your time alone with Grim. He used to be like, that’s how he got involved with the wrong type of people in his past life. He doesn’t want that for you, so he’ll be your best friend too! (“Hey, you can’t do that, I’m already their best friend!” says Ace). Oh yeah? Watch him. Doesn’t matter, Deuce will still be your friend, whether Ace likes it or not. 

The electric creation is endearing and slightly clumsy, but he isn’t harmless. Oh no, not in the slightest. The university is full of aggressive students looking for a challenge, so he’s immediately zapping all those that even try to challenge you to a duel. Why even lift a finger when Deuce holds enough power to fry their organs from the inside with just one strike? 

In truth, Deuce can’t help but feel he wasted his life. But this time, he’s determined to not make the same mistake again! It’s a miracle he even got this opportunity, so he’s going to make the most of it! He can’t ever thank you enough for this chance! So, he’s decided. To make this life worthwhile, he’ll stay by you! He’ll raise his fists again and fight tooth and nail to protect the one that gave him this life. 

Cater Diamond

The orb in the very middle was peculiar. It was an orange color. You wanted to guess that it was a fire creation, but there was always the chance of being incorrect like with Deuce’s case. At the slightest movement around it, it seemed to sense the commotion so it quickly bounced to life. 

As soon as it became too loud (no thanks to Ace and Deuce’s squabbling), the orange orb crystallized before shattering and expanding in size to resemble a human form. It was another man, but this one was a bit taller than the previous two creations. The red silk complimented his orange shoulder length hair nicely, and his green eyes were dull before lighting up with a spark when he realized there was company. Honestly, you couldn’t pinpoint what element he was composed of, but his lifeless gaze before he quickly brightened up and smiled threw you off. 

This third creation swiftly took notice of your form, and he seemed quite friendly. He gave a quick wave and immediately bounded over, eyes sparkling as he hesitantly took your hands in his. He paid no mind to the other two creations whose moods soured upon seeing you were now paying attention to this new creation. 

“It… It really happened…? You’re the one that made me, right? I can totally tell! It’s like, I instantly felt this super powerful bond with you! You feel it too, right? Or is it just a me thing creations feel? Well, whatever, it’s so nice to meet you, creator!” 

So Cater really liked the ramen, which was a bit of a disappointment because you wanted to keep that. But he promised to share if you let him feed you. You agreed, which flustered him because he wasn’t actually expecting you to say yes! Anyways, it took a bit of analyzing to figure out which ingredients from the cauldron helped form him. There’s a chance it was a bundle of crushed winter diamonds (an arctic flower) and a jar of icy mists. 

Yes, it was impossible to tell earlier, but Cater was an ice creation. You certainly never expected that. He has a bit more control over his powers, so that was good. Actually… the ice element made sense now that you thought about it. It’s hard to tell, but Cater acts a bit strange. He has this calm side he immediately pushes to the side when others are around, but you’ve noticed it. Maybe that’s why he’s of the ice element. 

If you ask about his previous life, he’ll laugh a bit and casually bring up the past life of his fellow creations instead. What gives? Why won’t he tell you? Is he just that secretive or that insecure? It’s hard to tell. 

Ah, you poor thing! All on your own out here. Don’t worry, whatever you need, Kay’s on the case! Cater is quick to find out details of this world, assisting you in learning the ups and downs of this magic world as well. He melts with any bit of praise too. Thank him and praise him for a job well done, that’s your first step to getting him to open up more. 

Really, Cater is so desperate for company and validation, specifically from you. But he keeps his desperation hidden under a carefully crafted cheerful and preppy personality that hides some sort of mysterious icy interior. Was it so wrong to want your attention? To do anything to keep your eyes on him? 

Part of him constantly wonders if he truly deserved a second chance. Of course not, so why him? Why did he get lucky? Why was he given this opportunity by you of all people? He felt undeserving, but at the same time he was so grateful, he wanted to believe that none of it was a mistake. He wished to believe that somehow, he could truly achieve happiness in this life with you. 

Trey Clover 

The second to last orb was a sage green, immediately reminding you of the greenery of nature. It took only the slightest prodding from Cater for the orb’s glow to increase to a soft glow. Its shaking signified it was awake, and moments from transforming. 

A small storm of leaves magically appeared, concealing it until the storm grew in size and suddenly stopped. The leaves drifted down to the ground, revealing another tall young man but with short dark green hair that contrasted against the red silk over his body. He had hazel eyes that were squinting, as if he were struggling to see. You connected the dots and reached for the glasses, carefully putting them over his eyes. Now with clear vision, he could see properly, and the first thing he saw was you. 

The creation blinked, surprised but he smiled gratefully and nodded his head in thanks. There was an air of peace and maturity to him that was unlike the three before him. Not to mention that he stayed relatively calm compared to the eager and panicked reactions from Ace, Deuce, and Cater. 

“Thank you… Creator, I’m assuming? The first person I see is supposed to be my creator, and that was you. A bond between a creator and their creation is supposed to be sacred. So, may I introduce myself? After all, we’re bonded together now.” 

The glasses seemed like a fitting offering for the creation with vision problems. They helped him significantly, so it’s nice knowing that one of your purchases was actually worth it. Now to note down what ingredients may have formed this creation. It looks like it may have been the roots from the deep wilderness of the forest and bits of vine from wandering wooden treefolk. 

Trey is a plant creation, and he appears to have a good grip over his abilities. What a great plant creation, he even acted like the typical plant creations described in the books! It’s said that they’re usually very calm and intelligent creations that have a strong instinct to nurture and care for, especially for their creator. 

If you prod into his past, he’ll answer the same every time. He served a powerful person who wasn’t doing the right thing. He’ll give no more crumbs of details, even if you continue to prod. 

Guess who’s taken up the responsibility to care for you? Trey has. He’s constantly checking up on your health, cooking to feed you, and even keeping the others rooted in place (quite literally with roots) if they’re being particularly troublesome. Say goodbye to ramen and dirt cheap lunches, because Trey is here to save the day! 

Trey is a bit more passive compared to the others who can cause trouble if not properly monitored. But, not to fear, that’s why he’s here. To keep the young ones in line, and maybe you’ll appreciate his efforts. He’ll care for the other creations, but he wants to care for you the most if you’ll let him. 

In this second life, he’s determined to not let things get out of hand like last time. He wants to keep the peace, and so he’ll aim to keep it as stress-free as possible. If he can live this life peacefully with you and the others he’s come to care for, then that’s all he can ever ask for. 

Riddle Rosehearts 

Finally, the last orb. This crimson one has been growing hotter and hotter, ever since Ace was the first to awake. There was something peculiar about this one, because it simply didn’t wake. It took several minutes after Trey awoke, continuously prodding and poking from the others did nothing but seemingly make it angrier as it got even hotter. So hot it was emitting steam. 

After more waiting, it didn’t wake up. You had found the others a change of clothes to get them out of the silk cloth, Grim had helped you clean up the remnants of the ritual, the candles were reaching the ends of their lifespan, and still it didn’t move. Grim sat, staring at the orb that was much too hot to touch, before finally turning towards you and inquiring, “Why don’tcha try something to wake it up?” 

Unsurely you approached the orb, carefully placing your hands under it but not touching it. Just grazing it would leave a nasty burn. As you moved your hands up, it floated up as well until you held it at eye level. “Uh… hello?” 

As soon as you spoke, the orb flashed a fiery red. You quickly removed your hands, just in time as the flames grew bigger, resembling the shape of a short figure. The flames were so strong that it caused the entire room to grow sweltering hot. When the smoke and the flames disappeared, the air cooled and there was the fifth and final creation. It was a short young man with crimson hair and wide gray eyes. He looked like a doll. The hair matched the flames and the silk on his body, while his stern expression nearly matched the intensity of the heat from just moments ago. 

Slowly he opened his eyes and gazed at you. There was a soft and welcoming smile on his face, which was unlike what you just experienced seconds ago with the powerful heat from the fire. This young man appeared so tranquil and delighted, it was hard to believe that his previous sphere form was probably the most dangerous by far. His pale cheeks became a rosy hue as he greeted, 

“Hello, creator. You have my sincerest gratitude for this chance. I am–– was... queen, but now I am yours. Yours to command and yours to bend to your will. Use me as you see fit. May I have the honor of knowing your name?” 

Riddle is the last creation to take shape, but he is by far the strongest. Perhaps it was because of his destructive element, or it may have something to do with his background. Whatever it may be, his soul was lured here by the promise of a warm cup of tea (he was thirsty!). He is the same element that Ace is, so there’s a chance that the same ingredients helped form Riddle. 

Riddle is a strong fire creation, with way more power than his fellow creations. Don’t worry, he won’t be using his abilities all willy-nilly like Ace would. It’s obvious that you can place your faith in Riddle. If you wish for him to never use his powers outside a battle or even if you instruct him to burn an offender to a crisp, then it will be done without question! 

He’ll answer everything honestly, including if you want to know about his previous life. This fire creation was a queen that ruled with an iron-fist, until she met an unfortunate end at the hand of some unruly subjects. 

Riddle thrives in this learning environment. He’ll become the torch to lead your way during these dark tumultuous times of study and lessons. He’s exceptionally good at all subjects, despite not even being a student. If you’re worried about failing, don’t fret, he’ll gladly tutor you! Rest assured, he’ll help you pass these classes! 

Like Trey, Riddle keeps everyone in line, but the fire creation’s methods greatly differ from the plant creation. Trey is gentle and convincing, while Riddle can grow frustrated if the younger two refuse to listen. How dare they?! If you tell him to tone it down, Riddle will immediately do so. He’ll remain strict, but he will no longer lash out should anyone fall out of line. The others are thankful you tell Riddle to be lenient. 

This fire creation holds your reputation in high regard, which is why he becomes personally offended when anyone insults you. He’s gotten into a duel or two because of foolish students that believe you’re an easy target, and he won them swiftly. Oh, Riddle swears to make all of your enemies rue the day they decide to cross you! It’s frightening to see this petite young man who normally acts so well-mannered and sweet to you, become a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield as he punishes the offenders with the intensity of his flames. 

After his death, he believed that was it. His reign was over, his life was cut short, and that was all. There was nothing left for him… until there was. Until he was granted a chance at a proper ending, with a brand new fresh clean slate. He wouldn’t have the power and status of his last life, but he would have something better, something to cherish: his creator, you. 

After... 

It was impossible! After checking the records and textbooks and journals with Grim, you had confirmed that no past creator had ever managed to summon more than one creation at a time! Hell, in fact, most creators were only able to summon one creation in their lifetime! So for you to summon not one, not two, but five creations in one ritual? It had never been done before, at least that’s what the records showed. You had just started, you had thrown together random ingredients and offerings, you had zero experience, while past creators who studied for years, prepared even longer for rituals, and got priceless gifts and artifacts for the process, would usually end up empty handed. So how was this possible? Five creations was more than enough for you. There would be no more creating. You had five creations to show the headmaster, and making anymore would mean sacrificing another limb. There was no need for it, you couldn’t do it again, right…?

This is going to be a word vomit, but there are some comparisons between Earth and Twisted Wonderland that I wanted to make based on souls and myths on what happens to souls in the afterlife. So I’m sorry for how long this will be🥺! For biology au, I feel that not only would Yuu be biologically different from everyone in Twisted wonderland, but also have a different soul structure. In Twisted wonderland, the color and shape of the soul is used to indicate the type of magic and how much magic someone would have. The color of souls that are used to separate people into their dorms are red, yellow/orange, light purple, dark purple, blue, and green. For ghost in Twisted Wonderland they look very cartoonish and have a different appearance than when they were alive. Meanwhile on Earth souls are very impossibly to see or to prove their existence, but the ghost here on Earth are much more terrifying looking. Not only do they have the same appearance when they were alive, they would also have the injuries/cause of death marks on them. Plenty examples are on YouTube, “Creepy Sentences said by Kids”. (there was this one kid making weird faces in their living room, when their parent asked why, the kid responded they were mimicking the woman with the long braid around her neck) Also, in varies religions (mostly in the big ones such as Christianity, Muslim, and Jewish) you’re soul is affected by the decisions of your actions like doing good deeds or committing sins. Another factor that could impact your soul is how you lived and died. (If you committed suicide you just doomed your soul to never passed on to the afterlife). Whatever action you take will affect the shape your soul and will be your indicator if you pass into heaven or hell. Imagine how funny it would be if Malleus and the doctors came up with another method to see Yuu’s soul, only for many doctors and some of their classmates to faint when they see something eldritch appear, like one of those biblical accurate angels staring back. (Yuu did help save the dorm leaders from dying when they over blotted and stayed friendly to them despite almost getting killed. I’m pretty sure Yuu earned big points in getting into heaven.) The people that would faint would be Trey, Ace, Cater (after taking a blurred photo) and maybe Riddle. The people who would be stunned would be Malleus, Lilia, and Silver. The people that would try to fight this would be Deuce and Sebek. Meanwhile Grim would most definitely hide or shoot fireballs.

I'm not gonna lie.

I've been daydreaming about the ghost thing as well for a while now but didn't think about putting it in this series.

This ask has now confirmed for me that I am not the only one who wonders if all ghosts in Twisted Wonderland look all cute and puffy like that. When I got the English version and played the prologue; then those ghosts in the mine start attacking us, I remember how scared Ace, Deuce and Grim got and thought: "Why are they this scared? These guys are all puffy and cute.

I was thinking about another au that I have in the works where Ace gets acidentally sent to Yuu's world whilst they are still in twisted wonderland. Until he is summoned back, he learns about Yuu's world through the people around him and the experiences he endures.

One of the scenarios of that series has Ace split off from the other people and encounters a ghost that is inspired by a ghost story I heard IRL. I kinda wanna work on my horror writing.

Them all fainting would be funny. They would never be able to look at Yuu the same way ever again.

Ohhh Lee, this is an adorable and interesting question. Thank you so much for asking, and seriously, you make me blush. I'm so moved you're kinda obsessed with little Heaven! Thank you so much, I hope you'll like the answer! 🥺💚 Let's do this as headcanons.

• She's not so effective when it comes to games -- In fact, she lets Arthur does that because he's always so good at inventing little games and entertaining kids. When it comes to games, Heaven would usually pick Hide and Seek. Overall, the kids go for Arthur if they wanna play, and go to Heaven for activities (cooking, wandering in the forest etc...) or for stories because, God, she's the queen of Fairy Tales.

• Heaven is absolutely fond of fairy tales, myths, and legends. She is an inexhaustible source of stories and knowledge about such topics, partly thanks to her father.

• When John asks her to babysit his children or when the kids go to vacations at Uncle Arthur's house, they know they are going to have fun and get spoiled with French cooking and delicious pastries. But for sure their favorite part is when Aunt Heaven tells them bedtime stories.

• Since John's kids do not want to go to bed, she had found a very effective idea: rather than telling stories in the bedroom, she makes the kid gather around her on a comfy fur carpet on which she had placed a ton of pillows and blankets, right in front of the fireplace. Then, she sits in the middle so that the kids can lean on her or hug her - especially Katie, who always clings to her.

• She would obviously tell them her favorite fairy tales: The Red Riding Hood, The Devil With the Three Golden Hairs, and Goldilocks. She also invents stories from scratch, mixing her own imagination and her favorite myths/creatures.

Jamil, Silver: Show me the World

Ahhh 😔 so turns out most of the interview questions were about using magic, BUT we do get one question about “something they hope to do in the upcoming year” I’m counting this as a partially correct prediction 😂.

I’ll be focusing on the future as the central theme for my next birthday series. Let’s start off strong with Jamil, the birthday trendsetter! Okay but let’s be honest here, those pointy elf shoes are ugly as hell

A Boy in Bloom, and his Flowering Future.

“What’s one thing you hope to do this upcoming year?”

The future? A tantalizing concept that Jamil often found himself toying with. It was a single die dancing between his fingers and the palm of his hand, yet to be cast.

But alas, there was no future for him—at least not one defined by his own free will.

Not yet.

Jamil concealed a fist in the long sleeves of his robes. His face held not a trace of grief, nor frustration. He speaks with a controlled calmness, his tone perfectly steady.

“… I would like to learn about the cultures of countries outside of my own.” He indicated the sky with a thumb. “I had mentioned earlier that I wanted to travel the world and see things that aren’t in any guidebook. That’s a part of my reasoning.”

“You still have travel on the mind.” Silver nodded understandingly.

“I’ve not had many opportunities to go beyond the Scalding Sands. There is so much I have yet to be discovered about the world—so much that I want to learn and to experience for myself. Customs, traditions, beliefs... They differ so greatly from one to the next.

“I want to be mindful of that so as to not offend.” Jamil granted his interviewer a half smile. Foreigners in unfamiliar lands are prone to getting taking advantage of. I would like to avoid those situations as much as I can. “And, of course, to enrich my own understanding of them.

“My parents are very hospitable. They use their knowledge of other cultures to calm their most difficult of clients. It’s a very useful skill for any circumstance. I hope that I am able to emulate it for myself.”

“Different perspectives are very important things to consider,” Silver agreed. His words were floaty and slight, like slivers of moonlight sliced from the night. “During my father’s own travels, he was able to meet people from all over Twisted Wonderland and even beyond. He has amassed many teachings and much wisdom from them. ‘There is no right way, but rather a different way,’ he’d say.”

“Your father sounds almost like a myth. Just how has one man managed to travel so much in his short lifetime?”

“Ah, he...” Silver hesitated, his eyes cutting away briefly. “He has his ways.” 

“How fortunate for him.”

What I would give for that kind of freedom. Such a thing… I can only dream of it.

A thought caught in the web of Jamil’s mind. He plucked it out between his thumb and forefinger, rolling it in the pads of his fingers. The question was offered to his interviewer.

“Out of curiosity, did you see the world with him?”

“No. I stayed at home, looking after both the house and myself.” Silver paused. The aurora of his eyes lit up moments later, his eyebrows hitching as though he’d been struck by lightning. “Oh! I see now. You were worried about me, Jamil.”

“... I was what?” The birthday boy’s eyeballs were straining to stay contained in their sockets.

“It’s alright,” Silver reassured him. “I was never lonely without my father at home. I had company. There was Sebek and the local animals for me to play with—and I knew that my father would return safely from abroad. He always does.”

“You certainly have a lot of faith in him.”

“Yes! He is a great man, one that I highly respect.” Silver laid a hand over his heart, his gaze resolute. “… Jamil. Are you unafraid?”

“Of what?”

“When you depart for your travels… are you not afraid of how that will leave your family feeling? They must miss you terribly, even now while you’re studying at Night Raven College.”

Jamil’s response was trained.

Automatic.

“My family will be fine. They have their own work to tend to.”

My parents would kill me if I up and left my duties to travel the world. If they found out I had plans for that at all, they would try to stop me.

Because it had never really been about what he wanted, had it? There was always something above him. A matter more pressing, a person more important.

“You can’t do this. You understand, don’t you, Jamil?” The future is not yours.

It was never mine to begin with.

It was a treasure snatched from him right when it was already within his reach. Glistening gold, rich rubies, dazzling diamonds.

Slipping through his fingers like fine grains of sand.

If only he had a genie in a lamp. Someone to snap and suddenly make all of his wishes come true.

His throat constricted.

His expression remained unchanged. His true feelings, masked.

“Jamil.”

Silver had a hand on his shoulder. The knight’s face was solemn—serious, but strangely serene. His grip tightened into a squeeze.

“You’re a good person. No matter how much it may hurt them to see you leave… I’m sure that your family will support you no matter where you choose to go in life.”

Sincerity shone in Silver’s voice and eyes.

Good will, optimism, trust. All things he could afford because he was well-meaning. Well-meaning and ignorant.

Just like...

An irritatingly cheerful face flitted into his mind. Phantom hands closing around his, and the promise of a new beginning at his ears.

He frowned.

“Let’s start over, Jamil! Not as friends, but as rivals!! We’ll push each other to work even harder, get even better…! Then… we can work our way back to ‘friends’!”

“And just who in their right mind would ever willingly want to be friends with you?!“

That decision was mine.

“… Of course.” Jamil smirked, tossing back his ponytail. It fell like a curtain of night, the golden accessories woven into it twinkling like blinking stars. “I will make the world my own, regardless of the expectations placed on me.”

That’s right. I can’t give up here.

I refuse to quietly resign myself to that fate. I don’t know when, and I don’t know how, but… I will change it by my own hand.

“You have a wonderful future ahead of you.” Silver lowered his head to the birthday boy. “We are comrades. Let’s do our best to follow in the footsteps of our loved ones.”

“… Yes, let’s.”

Follow? No—I’ll break free.

Jamil twirled his broom and mounted it, setting loose a scatter of dark petals. They twirled in the crisp autumn breeze, joining with sunset colored leaves.

Magic ignited the broomstick, sparkles dancing along its bristles—the flowers. Already, it, and Jamil’s feet, were floating a few centimeters off the ground. Eager to soar to new heights.

Jamil tossed his interviewer a cool glance. “It’s time for the departure.”

“Safe travels along the birthday road and beyond it,” Silver advised. “You will see the world someday—and when you do, it will be shining, shimmering, and splendid.”

“… Thank you, Silver.”

Jamil did not look back.

Thank you for having faith in my future.

I'm still stuck on this, and I wonder about Found Footage Horror, or Analog Horror (maybe the recent Digital Horror). Like, I know for a fact that Twst is advance enough to have new technology. Like, those Horror are mostly found in the Internet with the rarities in main stream media like the Blair Witch Project.

There is also Liminal Space, like the uncanny feeling like there should be people here but there is no one. I feel Hearstabyul and Octa (this is the only dorm I can't spell with confidence) are the most creepiest. Hearstabyul cuz has the largest amount of people and it being fucking loopy. While, Octa being a rest of sort, and the big ass aquarium windows. Like some content creators, are good at it that it creates suspense and some lore. For example Kain Pixel's Backroom series and the Oldest View.

There are also other sites that are making horror stories with varying quality. Like the SCP wiki (but I have more fun seeing the world building, but there are some good stories in there), r/nosleep (it's a mixed bag), and my personal favorite podcast series The Magnus Archive (my fav is episode one)

There are a lot of similarities between horror in Twisted Wonderland and our own, primarily because we have significant overlap in the things we find scary. However, the existence of magic has made horror fiction both more and less scary. Less because if you’re a mage, there are a lot of things you can do to get yourself out of a situation or fight off the thing harming you. More because, well, imagine a powerful mage being the slasher in your horror movie.

The existence of magic has also created something of a niche of horror fiction: mage horror. Typically, it’s horror directed to mage consumers, often dealing with magic going out of control, overblots, and other general unsettling aspects of being a magic user. Overblotters mages also take a starring role in a lot of horror fiction- an overblotted mage actually is the main villain of a piece of horror media close in style to the Blair Witch Project film. A lot of the common tropes you might get from a witch on Earth are replaced with mages, often overblotted mage, in Twisted Wonderland. Demons roles are similarly filled by evil spirits.

Uncanny feelings in the dorms is an interesting idea. The Heartslabyul dorm at least seems like it would have some interesting shadowy places that would freak you out in the early morning. The dorm’s architecture is much less creepy to people who grew up in the Queendom of Roses, since that kind of architecture is traditional there, but people from elsewhere might be freaked out!

Octavinelle’s kinda creepy, too. To look out those windows and see nothing but the empty darkness beyond… That’d be enough to trigger anyone’s latent thalassophobia! I'd imagine there are some students who just avoid looking out the windows at night. Or maybe during the day, too!

Speaking of Octavinelle, my headcanon is that merfolk have the creepiest scary stories. Like, horrifically scary. They've canonically mentioned that a lot of merfolk go missing, and the sea is a very dangerous place to live (though it was the twins who said this, and I feel like they could be messing with us for fun. Until we have confirmation otherwise, I'll take their word for it). Merfolk horror media often is highly realistic, deals both with personal and cosmic horror in the same breath, and tends to get kind of graphic. A lot of hardcore horror fans on land will pay top dollar for copies of merfolk media. (Yes, Azul leverages this to hell and back.)

Generally, human and beastman media is pretty similar to what we have, with some modifications to existing myths. Vampires exist in horror media pretty much unchanged from our world, but werewolves are a tale from wolf beastmen, for example. Traditionally the same kind of horror. Fae horror is... well, it's either piss-terrifying or it doesn't translate well. Lilia's really good at identifying the piss-terrifying stuff and scaring people with that. Malleus will either tell you something that will make you stay up all night in cold fear completely casually, or he'll try to give some protracted horror story about the slow passage of time and the alteration of the world. It's a little unsettling, but it's not scary exactly.

That's about the sum of it. I don't think there's much more I have to say on horror here... though I'm sure if you ask more, I can come up with more headcanons!

My otome game journey

Note: So, I’ve been thinking lately about my journey from playing otome games and I just wanted to put it out there. Mainly because I was so curious if anyone has done the same thing as me.

Let’s see, I started with Midnight Cinderella, and I remember the first route I ever did was Alyn’s, which was pretty chill. The ending in a way traumatized me because if I remember correctly, he actually went off to war instead of being with you. For Alyn it made sense because he’s a knight and all that but, I didn’t know at that time that sometimes it’s not always a happy ending.

After that I ventured into the world of wizardess hearts, I actually played several routes. Yet, I don’t remember much other than really liking the MC because I thought she looked cute. Yeah, I can't exactly say much about that one…

It was then that I found my forged wedding and started playing a bunch of voltage inc games. I absolutely love my forged wedding, it’s one of the few otome games where I recommended playing everyone’s route. Seeing as I loved my forged wedding, I continued playing a bunch of other games from them all the way to Irristable mistakes.

During that time, I heavily invested several hours into several different game titles and fell in love with many of the suitors. Some shoutouts would be Star crossed myths, My last first kiss, seduced in the sleepless city and many more. Of course, I came to find another game which was not mystic messenger. I actually was not involved in that because I had a sister who was too invested in that. Let’s just say, I didn’t want to wake up late at night because of their game events.

Anyway, I came to invest my time in Mr Love: Queen's Choice, but it was very short lived. Why, because during that time I was too far down the kpop rabbit hole. Even though I was a big kpop fan since 2011, I reached an all-time peak. I still do enjoy kpop now, just not to that level of extreme. When I say extreme, I mean following several groups and watching everything that they had. Anything they appeared in I felt like I needed to watch that, but more on my kpop journey later.

By now it was late 2018 and I rekindled the flame for Mr Love: Queen's Choice but it wasn’t just that. I fell down the rabbit hole of the Chinese media! I grew to love c-dramas and their music. I kid you not I was in a whole different league of my own. So next thing I knew I repeated my kpop trash days but with everything c-pop instead.

Then, for a very brief time period in 2019 I grew to love Thai series because my mother had a liking for Thai BL. Then I went back to watching C-dramas and watched the series called the Untamed with my mother since she really liked the actors.

Finally, we arrive at the year 2020, the pandemic and such made life crazy. I also started to hear about this game called Ikemen sengoku and I was like hey how interesting. However, I was busy and never got back to the game after finishing a couple chapters. Yet, I heard about twisted wonderland, and I became more consistent with that instead. I love twisted wonderland and thought that I should find another game to give my life to.

This is when I finally decided to try ikemen vampire, I thought it was a pretty crazy idea. I was like, did someone drunk come up with this idea because I want what they were drinking. Now, we are in our present timeline.

I have finished over half of the suitors, routes and I’m very happy I did. This game made me fall in love with otome games all over again. However, every now and then I get a craving for something crazy. That’s when I play games from voltage inc. I highly recommend Ikemen vampire for those that like angst.

Aside from ikemen vampire, I tried out ikemen prince and romance MD as well as Her love in the force. Out of those three I just named, I recommend the latter two rather than the first, especially for those who want a breath of fresh air. Well, that’s all for my progress so far, but it’s not the last!

I've just gotta know, what made you start your Arthurian retelling? Like, why Arthurian myth specifically? (please ramble to me about why it's your fav, I love that shit)

Happy STS!! I will absolutely ramble!

I first discovered the Arthurian tales through The Magic Treehouse series as a kid, and then later, I found it again through the BBC show Merlin.

This show in particular was one of my biggest inspirations, despite its cheesy nature. I find it absolutely inspiring that with the budget they had, they did incredibly well. The actors and writing genuinely carry the show, so much so that I don't even care that the CGI isn't excellent!

I loved the smart-ass personality of Merlin, the humor of the show, and the intricacies of the story; from Arthur's father, to Morgana, to Mordred. Not to mention, I've always adored dragons and magic.

Throughout my life, I've come across so many versions of twisted fairytales. So much so that it inspired me to write my own! The first is actually a WIP based on Alice in Wonderland. My Arthurian retelling came after.

Another big point of inspiration for my retelling is Nanatsu no Taizai, or The Seven Deadly Sins. It was the first time I'd seen Merlin as something other than an old white man with a long gray beard, and I immediately wanted to create my own, entirely unique story.

Other sources of inspiration include the tv show Cursed, the movie King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and The Green Knight with Dev Patel. Doctor Who has also played a part in my works, thanks to the sci-fi twist of many themed episodes.

Merlin is regarded as an integral part of Arthurian legend. I would even argue he is more well-known than Arthur himself. You'll likely find him referenced in any media with witches and wizards, magic and sorcerers. This led to my idea of Merlin being the main character; the 'most important.'

BBCs Merlin went with a similar approach, seeing as he was to help Arthur to his destiny. I liked the idea of him working 'behind the scenes' but I wanted him to have a bigger role. To be much more complicated.

So, Myhren was born.

A non-binary, AFAB, half-dead, dark sorcerer, trapped in a time loop where everything is at least slightly different than what we know. Having a character with a traditionally 'dark' or 'evil' power is one of my favorite tropes to twist around. After all, why not play into the 'magic is evil' idea a little bit more, when it comes to banning magic in Camelot?

I also took inspiration from BBC Merlin with their 'dragon lord' idea. Because, c'mon. Who doesn't love dragons?
