I want more of the JL acting like normal celebrities.

Batman and Chappel Roan working together on a competitive cooking show against teams of Kylie Jenner and Danny Devito, Kanye West and Kesha, Taylor Swift and Superman, etc. They are a surprisingly good team who work together great. They end up winning the whole thing and a bunch of wholesome memes start trending about the two of them adopting you after your awful parents kicked you out. Superman and Taylor Swift are surprisingly a TERRIBLE team. They’re disqualified because they never finished cooking their meals as they were too busy arguing. They are memed to be the parents who kicked you out and desperately need a divorce.

Wonder Woman going on a survivor-like reality show about a bunch of celebrities stuck on an island together and all the contestants are whining about things like “My hair is so frizzy and Chad is SO hot, I don’t want him to see me like this omg” While Diana has already chopped down multiple trees, used the wood to make a cabin for everyone, hunted a wild boar which is currently roasting over a campfire she also made with the leftover sticks and leaves, and cracked the coconuts from the tree. The rest of the show is mostly a normal reality show. The other contestants never have to lift a finger and can peacefully gossip and have drama while being well fed, housed, and hydrated. The only real difference is that every few minute the camera switches to Diana wresting a grizzly bear or catching fish with her bare hands.

The masked singer where there’s a person in a colourful parrot costume singing on stage and everyone has to guess who it is. People have guessed many celebrities like Oliver Queen, Bruce Wayne, or even Lex Luther, but they mostly guessed famous singers because the guy is GOOD and there’s no way he doesn’t sing professionally. He sang songs like “Party in the USA”, “Call Me Maybe” and “Never Gonna Give You Up”. People were going crazy trying to figure out who he is. The time finally comes for the reveal. The man slowly takes off his parrot head and... it’s Batman. The crowd goes wild.

The Flash (Barry) and Green Lantern (Hal) make a podcast and spend the entire time going on long rants about their respective interests. Flash talks about forensic science and chemistry for an hour while GL hums in interest or asks questions every once in a while. After that GL rambles about airplanes and engineering for another hour while Flash enthusiastically nods and adds in related stories every so often. Twitter diagnoses them with autism.

Captain Marvel has a TikTok account where he posts himself trying suggestions from his fans. Some of his most popular videos include him juggling a bunch of chainsaws (perfectly, btw), pranking JL members, bedazzling Mr Minds prison jar with fake crystals and speech bubble stickers that make it look like Mr Mind is saying things like “I’m DUMB”, and his most popular by far, citing The Santa Clause rules to Black Adam and convincing him that since he killed his father technically that makes him his new dad (the horror stopped Black Adam in place mid battle, giving Marvel the perfect opportunity to punch him in the face. The punch has been slo-mo’d and memed to oblivion). His Batman mandated PR team has been begging him to stop for months but in response he posts himself TikTok dancing (terribly) in front of a green screen in the background showing an image of the emails while asking for more suggestions.

If anyone has any ideas like this or fics to recommend plz tell me In the comments, I love the Justice League just casually being celebrities.

I really enjoy your blog and I’m just curious to what you think of Justin Hartley, I don’t know much about him honestly

Hello Anon thank you for the ask. I don't know a whole lot about Justin Hartley or how him and Jensen met to begin with, but I'll give this my best shot. Justin Hartley was born January 29, 1977 in Knoxville, Illinois. He started his acting career on Passions as Nicholas Foxworth "Fox" Crane (2002-2006) and also starred on shows like Smallville as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (2006-2011) which on a personal note is actually where I saw him for the first time YEARS ago ha ha, The Young and the Restless as Adam Newman (2014-2016), and then had recurring roles in shows including Revenge as Patrick Osbourne (2013-2014), Mistresses as Scott Trosman (2014-2016), This is Us as Kevin Pearson (2016-2022), and currently plays Colter Shaw on Tracker (2024-). He has 3 siblings, an older brother named Nathan, then a younger sister named Megan who is married to a Josh Jones and is notably in a lot of Justin's posts, and a half sister named Gabriela.

As you probably are aware, Jensen was announced as being cast for Russel Shaw Colter's, older brother on Tracker. I myself plan on watching the show, as a couple weeks ago my mom's boyfriend mentioned the show is decent prior to Jensen being announced for the show. Having looked more into things knowing myself, there are some interesting parallels a friend of mine told me about and also things I've noticed between Justin, Jensen, the roles they play/will play on Tracker and even the roles Jared and Jensen played on Supernatural.

Fans and other people including myself started speculating it's possible that Jensen scored a role on Justin's show Tracker after this fan account created the Instagram post below, which clearly turned out to be correct.

Brotherhood/Family

For starters, Russell/Jensen is the older brother of Colter/Justin. Dean/Jensen was the older brother of Sam/Jared. It turns out that on Supernatural Sam and Dean before the first episode stopped talking to each other for 2 years after Sam decided he wants to go to college and stop hunting. On Tracker, it has been 20 years since Mary essentially severed the ties between Colter and Russell. John Winchester their dad also didn't talk to Sam in the same time period. Mary Winchester died when Sam was an infant and Dean was about 4 years old and John is "missing" but still alive when the show airs. However, on Tracker it is their dad Ashton who dies after he fell off a cliff named Devil's Notch and is believed Russell/Jensen who pushed him off by Colter/Justin and their mother Mary Shaw who is still alive. Interesting, on both shows their mother is named Mary. The roles of the dead parent are therefore notably swapped on Tracker and Supernatural.

It should be noted also that it is the 12th episode of Tracker in which Jensen will first appear as Russell airs on Mother's Day, which is May 12 this year. I speculated here that it seems 11 is a bit of a bad luck number for Jensen and noticed it show up on multiple addresses of his as far as numerology goes. In that post, I wrote:

If anyone reading this believes numerology has any significance, I also would like to point out how interesting it is that a lot of the addresses that he's been moving to and buying up since it seems things started to go downhill for Danneel and Jensen in 2018 contain the number 11. Heck, even the Colorado house stopped being listed as of 11/11/2022! In numerology, the number 11 has a lot of spiritual significance as it's said to be a master number and is said to be associated with what some call "twin souls" and soulmates (read the link for more info as to how this could apply here). Weirdly enough, when I was doing research on numerology and the number 11 this at one point showed up from a site called legalreach.com: "A Rule 11 agreement is an agreement between a divorcing couple that outlines how they will handle the divorce process and any disputes that arise. In other words, it's like a prenup for the breakup! It defines who takes what, when assets will be divided, and who gets custody of the kids." Never heard of it before but it stuck out to me while I was doing this research...

In another post, I brought up an Instagram post of Jensen's where he was wondering about the significance of the date 9/10 with regards to the ending The Boys season 3 AND the ending of Supernatural as far as filming dates go. I copied it below for your reference. My speculation of it from another post I created is "The description for this post says "What is the universe trying to tell me? 🤔". Looking at the date, the day after 9/10 is 9/11. Well Jensen, I can tell you one thing that this (and the other 11 related signs you keep missing!) means from Hermes: "9/10/2020 and 9/10/2021 being 1 year apart and 1 day before 9/11 along with several addresses of yours containing the number 11 is us seers telling you that you still have NOT found THE ONE you are looking for"."

Perhaps 12 is the good luck number Jensen needs to get a bit of a "jump start" on things being back on "the right track". Google's overview of the numerology for the number 12 states:

Bobbys!

My friend told me that there is a character Colter goes to for help a lot named Bob Exler. Bobby Singer on Supernatural also becomes Sam and Dean's go to for info guy. Interestingly enough, Bob Exler is seen wearing prosthetic legs on Tracker as seen above. This is because Eric Graise who plays Bobby Exler was born missing fibula bones in his legs, making it so the doctors amputated his legs at a young age. Briefly on Supernatural, Bobby Singer in Season 5 Episode 1 "Sympathy for the Devil" becomes paralyzed from the waist down after killing a demon using Ruby's demon-killing knife. He regains his ability to walk in Season 5 Episode 21 "Two Midnights to Midnight" after making a deal selling his soul to King of Hell Crowley to know where Death is and also regaining his legs, even kissing him to "seal the deal". Interesting parallel here my friend noticed...

Jared/Jensen/Justin Siblings

I talked earlier about how Justin has an older brother named Nathan, as well as younger sisters Megan and Gabriela. Jensen has an older brother named Joshua and a younger sister named Mackenzie. Jared has an older brother named Jeff and a younger sister named Megan. Both Jared and Justin have a sister named Megan. Interestingly enough, Justin's sister Megan is married to a Josh (Jensen's brother's name) and Jensen's sister Mackenzie is married to a Jeremy (both women's names start with M and married to men whose names start with J). I can't seem to find any information about Jared's sister Megan and whether or not she's married, although it does not appear she is if I am to go based off her Instagram page. All 3 of them have a younger sister whose first letter in their name starts with M, and all 3 have an older brother. If we were to go based off of full blooded sibling, we could say all 3 of them are in this sense middle children. Just funny coincidences really. I also cannot help but notice that Jensen and Justin both start with J and end with N and also both have 6 letters in their names...

Smallville

Justin's character Oliver Queen was introduced on Smallville in Season 6 Episode 2 "Sneeze". Jensen's character Jason Teague was introduced in Season 4 Episode 1. While they did not star on Smallville simultaneously, both Jensen and Justin were first seen on the CW on Smallville. Technically, Justin was on a TV pilot for Aquaman (or mercy Reef), which was never picked up as a series but starred later that year on Smallville. They both were on Smallville but were not in the same season together.

Funny enough how with the connections I was talking about with Jared, Jensen and Justin's families, Jason Teague's mom was Genevieve Teague (ancestors of the witch named Duchess Gertrude) on season 4 of Smallville, where Lana Lang was eventually possessed by her witch ancestor Countess Margaret Isobel Thoreaux. In the show it was revealed that when Margaret Isobel Thoreaux was burned at the stake she cursed Duchess Gertrude''s heirs by vowing to wipe the entire family out when she rises again. Funny how Genevieve Teague was killed being stabbed in the chest with one of the 3 power stones on Smallville and Ruby played by Genevieve Cortese (now Padalecki) was stabbed in a similar location on Supernatural by Dean, Jensen's character. Given some of the other posts I've been making in recent weeks relating to Genevieve and black magic, the timing for Jensen Ackles being announced to work on Tracker with Justin Hartley, both of whom were on Smallville but at different times, is quite curious at the very least.

New J2 in the making?

To wrap this up, do I detect a possible new J2 in the making? It should be noted here how some people on Twitter have been talking about how "romantic" some of the Tracker promo photos with Jensen and Justin together appear. I admit the tone of the Supernatural promo photos with Jared and Jensen versus the Tracker ones with Jensen and Justin off set do have a bit of a different tone if you catch my drift. Tracker was already renewed for a second season, and it seems that Jensen has a labeled chair on the set of Tracker. Possible hint we will be seeing more of Jensen on Tracker in Season 2? He did say lately that if all goes as planned, it will be a busy year. Look below for some screenshots of some interesting reactions/posts/comments related to the Tracker promo photos, notably from Tom Welling, who was Clark Kent on Smallville the same show Jensen and Justin both starred on.

Those of us who are in the fandom are well aware of the Jared/Jensen "J2" tinhatters stuff, where some fans believe and speculate they are in a secret relationship and did from the get go. Seems that Jensen and Justin's work relationship with Tracker is starting off with some similar reactions from people...

HELLO MELMË!!! Oooo this is such a fun ask ilysm and I love any excuse to be Incredibly Annoying abt the OrangeJuiceVerse so YEP HERE WE GO!!!

Kyle- Kyle SO has a sweet tooth!!! (I love that that’s a universal Kyle hc btw) that boy is THERE for any baked goods deadass even those shitty gas station packaged muffins (Stan is scribbling out the nutritional information (or as he calls it, Food Lore, well into their 30s)) and Kyle def consumes anything sugary. As for actual real food, he likes Italian a lot which works very well bc pasta is a general hit w everyone. Favorite fast food place is subway and he ALWAYS rearranges the sandwich components to make sure the distribution is right (he claims he doesn’t have obsessive compulsive tendencies) (he does) so this guy is THE reason the ojv is called the ojv, his favorite beverage is orange juice with seven ice cubes and a pinch of salt bc he’s picky even when he claims to not be, he’s also a red wine enjoyer

STAN!!! Oh my god he and Cartman and Kenny are bottomless pits!!! Stan is a big boi and he’s packing away everything he eats bc 1) he hates waste, and 2) he’s just hungry. BUT he’s really more of a savory guy. Veggie king, ofc, and he’s at every fast food place in town ordering any vegetarian option, ALSO!!! This man LOVES spicy food but his stomach doesn’t. He’ll get a couple crunchwraps sub refried beans and slather that shit in Diablo sauce, but there’s a pretty good chance he’s gonna be nauseous a few hours later. Also he loves Kyle’s cooking!!! Bc Ky likes to cook when he’s stressed and Stan likes Kyle, and Kyle makes this really kickass homemade bread (jalapeño cheese bread oh my god I really want some now) Stan is also SO bad at drinking water but he is in fact a soda enjoyer. Miller Lite and the cheapest vodka known to man (before he stopped drinking) are a staple, also he frequents the local smoothie king and gets a chocolate hulk. For most of their life style has been ordering an olive and pineapple pizza. Stan always dips it in extra marinara.

Tweek- he is seriously just a snacker. Like Girl Dinner has nothing on Tweek Dinner. His meals look like a Charlie Brown thanksgiving. If he even remembers food is a thing. But like Craig will come home and be like “what do u want for dinner” and Tweek’s like “oh I ate a whole jar of pickles” the amount of half eaten granola bars in that house smh. BUT he can decimate so much garlic bread. A very big lemonade fan.

Craig! He’ll eat whatever, nonchalant KING unless!!!! He’s having a bad day and is already on the cusp of a meltdown. If he’s overstimulated it’s a sprite and an uncrustable. A grape uncrustable. Also I just feel like he likes seafood? I cannot explain why, but he does. Also he’s really good about hydration, he likes routine and he has one of those bottles w the time markers lmao. And he’s weirdly pretentious abt craft beers like when he and Kyle take their lil excursions to their spot he’s drinking an ipa that’s lowkey gross but then he’s just shrugging at Kyle and being all “idk the citrus hits in the aftertaste” like an asshole.

KENNY ok Kenny is also not picky in the slightest, how could he be with how he grew up, but I feel like he’s especially fond of easy meals like casseroles, frozen pizza, that kind of stuff. When he starts actually making a stable living off his art he hits up ALL the local food trucks and small businesses and broadens his food knowledge, and he’s keeping the smaller struggling businesses going just by his support. He is another example of ojv losers not drinking enough water, thinks Mountain Dew counts, literally he would’ve developed scurvy in college if left to his own devices. SMH ily kenneth also he and Stan have both thrown up bc they tried to one up each other doing shots of hot sauce

Marj my queen! She, like Kyle, likes sugar, if the homies are going to a diner she’s getting pancakes, and she takes her coffee ALL dressed up. Also kenny is the grillmaster and Marj is making the BEST sides for the bbq!!! Omg she loves her some pasta salad and a lil shrimp shishkabab moment like put this girl on the cover of a southern living magazine with her sweet iced tea (she makes the best sweet tea) marj my goddess pls quit causing problems on the internet and just use ur hospitality degree to run a b&b and make the best biscuits and gravy ever

Cartman. Bruh. Eric Cartman. He has THE most expensive taste known to man when he’s older but until he gets into the Rich People scene he doesn’t really care about what he’s eating or if it’s of good quality. In college he dragged the m5 to some shitty steakhouse bc he heard it was a good deal, and also bc he was mad at Stan for belting As Long As You’re Mine from Wicked and he knew Stan wouldn’t have any food options there lmfao that asshole (he did have to put a dollar in the Fuckwad Jar). He will also eat the weirdest combination of things. Who is putting whipped cream and chocolate syrup on fried chicken? This man. He is a Diet Coke enjoyer lmfao also he drinks martinis with olives bc “it makes me look sexy and kewl” he doesn’t like olives btw he’s just an asshole

i love you for this 🥺 i don’t have a lot of wips out and what i do have is still in its pretty early stages so i won’t have a lot of characters to choose from, but ill do my best! contenders will be from The Noble Prince, The Curse of the Human Condition, or my unnamed lesbian murder wip

i put it all under the cut bc it got a bit long :)

1. Kieran from The Noble Prince, or Cestian from The Curse of the Human Condition! Kieran harbors a lot guilt for his mother’s death — she perished in a house fire. he was also inside and tried to get her out, but he couldn’t save her, and ended being dragged out by his own father but not without suffering some severe burns.

Cestian holds a lot of guilt because…. well, his guilt is complicated, but long story short: he did nothing while the woman he loved was beaten and exiled, and then when he later found her on the brink of death, he saved her, but she had lost her memory. so now she sees him as her savior, but doesn’t remember any of the pain he caused her.

2. the most recent fuck up….. oh… probably King Oliver from The Noble Prince. his fuck ip was blindly trusting Lord David, who recommended Kieran to guard Tzipora. because Kieran is about to uproot the King’s plans for Tzipora.

3. oh oof which of them are most like me? that’s hard to say. all my characters are like me, small parts of me taken and worked into new characters. maybe Kieran. he’s not very outspoken, but he has a lot of opinions, and he’s very curious.

4. Emmett! idk if it counts as a quirk, but he has a vicious southern accent and it’s fun to write! if that doesn’t count, then Tzipora’s tendency to repeat things :)

5. if i could write more for Evie and Scarlett, i just KNOW they’d be adored, especially Scarlett. they’re fun little murderers that worship a goddess of murder, and scarlett is a very bubbly, very sweet, but very violent love bug :) i love her so much

6. Best fashion tastes have to be both Alesya and Cestian from the Curse of the Human Condition. Alesya was a princess in line to be Queen, and Cestian is a King, so they both had to make sure they looked good at all times. worst fashion tastes goes to Silas, from the same story, or Kieran from The Noble Prince. he dresses for comfort and to hide his scars, not to look good.

7. Kieran is the only one that i’ve given a defined hobby/interest, and that’s reading! he reads any and every genre, but his favorite thing to read is old journals. he loves to learn about the world through other peoples’ eyes, to read about their lives

8. most fun would be Evie, Scarlett, and Tzipora. Three women that love bloodshed and don’t care who they hurt. they’ve all seen a lot and would have a lot of crazy stories to tell.

most likely to kill each other would be Alesya, Cestian, and Silas, all from the Curse of the Human Condition. Alesya is in love with Silas and hates Cestian, but she’s being forced into an arranged marriage with Cestian, and Cestian and Silas hate each other because they’re both in love with Alesya 😅 it’d be a mess

and to come out changed…. hmmmm… Evangeline, Tzipora, and Alesya. A murderous creature, a magical God, and a mere human woman that appreciates life. i think they’d end up falling into deep conversations about humanity and show each other different perspectives. they’d all be a little different once its all said and done.

Chapter 25 out of 26

Instead of managing to meet up later, Oliver has to keep running with Akio. The only way to keep them safe is to go public with Oliver being alive, leaving him back home in charge of Akio, while Tatsu and Maseo are still in the wind

In this chapter, they face pushy paparazzi outside the courthouse, which sends Oliver into a spiral. As the future for the Yamashiros becomes clearer, his own becomes more terrifying.

Chapter 25: Panic at the Courthouse

After that first night, it all goes very fast. They release a vague statement to the press about not answering any questions and requesting privacy in these times. It is not necessarily respected, but the security of the mansion is good, so they keep to the house.

Moira sets to work in getting Tatsu and Maseo the right paperwork to be reinstated officially as Akio’s guardians and to get back home.

The two are very grateful to her for that. Oliver decides not to mention that her actions are probably not out of the goodness of her heart, but because she wants them to get away, before they suddenly change their mind and try to make a grab for their money.

It irks Oliver to hell that she still thinks like that after all their talks, but he lets it go. She hasn’t said anything about it and it might be between his own ears. If he’s rebuilding bridges, he should give her the benefit of the doubt.

Besides, the lawyers she hires for them are the best and he can’t argue with providing his friends with the best. This whole process should be as smooth as possible, they’ve been through too much for anything less.

Going to the courthouse to get everything finalized is an interesting experience. They have all been avoiding cameras as much as possible, going incognito whenever they are on the streets. So, the paparazzi is going wild trying to get to them.

Since the process has gone smoothly, the interest in the story hasn’t died down too much between the news breaking and the court date. And the news of said court date has fanned the flames of interest once more.

Oliver sees them before they even pull up to the curb. He turns to Tastu and Maseo and says: “Just keep Akio between you, Dig will cover you best he can. Keep your head down and don’t say anything.”

Both Tatsu and Maseo eye the crowd warily. “I don’t like this,” Tatsu says.

“No one does,” Oliver snorts. “But they’re more interested in me than you. Sure, you two are still an interesting target, but they’ll likely flock to me. Use that to get inside, they won’t follow you there.”

“This is normal for you?” Maseo asks concerned, eyeing the crowd again.

“My birth was in the news, I’ve been in the spotlight for as long as I can remember,” Oliver shrugs, going back to observing the paparazzi getting pushed back by Dig and thus missing the disturbed looks Tatsu and Maseo share.

Diggle manages to get the car door open and ushers them out. Oliver is glad the man returned, this would be hell without him.

Akio is practically sandwiched between everyone. Diggle is in front of him, with Tatsu on his left and Maseo on his right, Oliver taking the rear.

Tatsu and Maseo turn in defensively, covering Akio better and taking Oliver’s advice to keep their heads down. Oliver makes sure to keep his head upright, he won’t be cowed and he has an image to maintain, not to mention a target to paint on his back.

His strategy is successful and a dozen microphones appear under his nose as flashes go off in his eyes, disorientating him, while questions come from all sides.

“Mr. Queen were these experiments just chemical or physical as well. There is still no comment on your alleged deformed torso.”

“Is it true you refused to see an American doctor, because you have secret China government medical implants, Mr. Queen?”

“Are Mr. and Mrs. Yamashiro selling Akio to you?”

“Would you describe the experimentation as torture? Were you tortured, Mr. Queen?”

“Will you be seeking psychological help after the trauma, Mr. Queen? Are you sane enough to be in the public after what you’ve been through?”

Oliver is doing a pretty admirable job of keeping it together, if he does say so himself. He is almost at the door when one last question ruins it. A reporter holds up a photo of a man and asks: “Can you confirm the identity of other victims on the boat? Do you recognize the man in the photo?”

Fyers and Wintergreen appear in front of his eyes, the sounds of the reporters turning into the sound of the base camp as the flashes become flickering sunlight that comes in as the entrance flaps in the wind.

He barely manages to stumble into the courthouse after the others, the door being pushed close behind him, as he takes a few more wobbly steps, trying to get to a bench in the hallway. The urge to curl up into a ball is strong, but that would leave him defenseless so he locks his knees.

A hand appears to support him, but he can only feel Fyers backing him towards that pole where Wintergreen tortured him. So he starts to fight back. However, the sensation of his clothes don’t match Lian Yu and if he concentrates, he can make out that the voices he’s hearing are ones he knows and not voices he should fear.

“Keep breathing, Oliver. Breathe in… breathe out… just follow me, breathe in…,” Diggle’s voice is the first that fully penetrates his senses into making sense.

Shuddering Oliver tries to follow, slowly realizing that Diggle is holding him upright in a restraining hold, though as to not block his airways. Following his instructions is not easy and every time he thinks he has managed, he chokes up again and feels breathless. However, he’s breathing semi-okay after a bit.

“I’m gonna move you to a bench, that okay?” Diggle says when he notices.

Words sounds incredibly difficult right now, but Oliver manages a nod. He braces himself for the movement, repeating in his mind over and over again that he’s getting moved to a bench by a friend, not tied to a pole by an enemy.

He knows it is going to suck and send him right back into the panic attack, but staying like he is now isn’t an option. Everyone is moving around him, being near the door as he is, which doesn’t help him calm down. He needs to be somewhere a bit more quiet if he wants to shake this off.

Indeed, Diggle grabs him and Oliver can only feel a combination of Wintergreen tying him to that pole, Ivo strapping him to a table, and Amanda pushing him onto that chair.

It takes all his concentration not to snap Diggle’s neck, struggling slightly against him as he is dragged to a bench and plopped down. In the back of his mind, he can only imagine the kind of rumors the press will be fed by those who are witnessing this, bitterly he remembers the reporter inquiring him if he was even sane enough to be out and about.

Tatsu appears in front of him, kneeling on the floor so that she can look into his down turned eyes. She says: “I need you to follow Maseo’s breathing and listen to my voice.”

Maseo sits down next to him, enough space between them to not feel like he is crowding him, and starts breathing regularly and loudly.

Much like with Diggle earlier, Oliver tries his hardest to follow, slowly getting more successful as time goes on. Tatsu’s voice helps. Her tone is soothing and he is instead reminded of when they meditated together, a better memory to latch onto until he can drag himself to the present.

When he finally blinks his eyes into the present, Tatsu gives him a kind look. “Welcome back, Oliver.”

He smiles back tiredly.

“Is he okay?” Akio asks worriedly.

Oliver wants to tell him he’s all okay, even if that would be a lie, because he is kind of freaked out himself still and scared, this hasn’t happened to him before. However, he can’t find it within himself to speak, his tongue like lead.

Maseo answers for him: “He will be okay, Akio. He just had a nightmare, while he was awake. Just give him a few moments.”

“Okay,” Akio says, believing his father, but still watching Oliver worriedly, from his place next to Diggle, who has been keeping people away from them.

Oliver gives Maseo a questioning look, because that answer came really easy to him.

“Like your loss of appetite, I know this feeling,” Maseo explains, making Oliver feel less alone.

“Did you have an attack like this before?” Tatsu asks.

He shakes his head no. It came out of nowhere and it scared him. He doesn’t know exactly what happened and he’d like it to never happen again.

Tatsu’s eyes grow sympathetic and understanding. “You’ll feel tired and need to rest. Your body is starting to feel safe again, letting your mind process what happened.”

“It is nothing to be afraid of,” Maseo adds. “Once you know what triggers you, you can avoid it, and start to work through it, so they don’t happen as often.”

Oliver completely disagrees. The whole thing is terrifying, he nearly killed Diggle. If this is what his body does when it starts to feel safe, he’s never going to let it feel safe again. However, he doesn’t let that show, just nods again.

“Mr. and Mrs. Yamashiro? The judge is waiting for you,” Laurel’s voice comes as a shock to his system and his face snaps up, likely unable to hide the horror at her witnessing this.

Both Tatsu and Maseo look reluctant to leave him alone, which can’t happen. He forces himself to speak: “Go. I’ll be okay. I’ll join you when I can.”

“I’ll stay with him,” Dig promises when they look apprehensive.

Oliver would prefer it, if Diggle protected Akio, however, Akio will be with his highly skilled parents and the thought of being alone right now doesn’t sound very appealing. So, he just forces a smile and gestures: “See, I’m in good hands. Go.”

Reluctantly, the Yamashiros follow Laurel, who has offered to show them to the right court room.

Once they’re out of sight, Oliver sags again, forcing himself to take a deep breath and slapping his face a few times to stay awake and alert.

Diggle sits down next to him, thankfully also leaving space like Maseo did. He lets Oliver collect himself a little, before he asks: “Want to talk about it?”

“Not really,” Oliver answers.

Knowing Diggle, he would’ve spoken regardless of the answer. “I used to have flashbacks all the time when I first got home. Lyla made me join a support group, before we divorced. She attended a different one, so we wouldn’t drag it home, regardless of the rules. It helped.”

“I’m not joining a support group,” Oliver scowls. “I can’t even talk about what actually happened to me.”

“And I’m not saying you should, just saying that talking about it helps.”

He’s saved from answering by Laurel, who returns with a glass of water. “I don’t know if this will help, but some water is always good,” she says as she offers it to him.

Oliver takes it gratefully, sipping the water with small sips to avoid triggering a flashback to being waterboarded. “Thank you.”

“Are you okay?” Laurel asks cautiously, sitting down next to him on the other side, a little too close for comfort.

“You don’t have to do this. I wouldn’t want to keep you from your work, I’m sure you’re busy,” he tries to deflect.

Laurel knows what he’s doing, but doesn’t comment on it directly, instead giving him a smile as she says: “I’m actually done here for today, I’m taking my lunch hour, before going back to the office. I figured I can keep you company for a bit.”

“Oh, that’s- that’s good,” Oliver says, shifting away slightly as Dig makes more space on his other side.

“Are you okay?” Laurel asks again, smile now gone and replaced by worried brows. Oliver tries to convince himself it wasn’t better when she fully hated him.

“I’m fine, Laurel.”

“Ollie…”

“Ms. Lance,” Diggle cuts in, saving him from further examination. “Just give him some space. He doesn’t have to talk, if he doesn’t want to.”

Laurel flushes slightly and says: “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-”

“It’s okay,” Oliver assures her, not wanting her to feel bad for being concerned or listen to whatever she’ll say next. He can’t handle other people feeling bad about him being… about him going through… well, everything.

She sits in the silence next to him and he feels a little bad about it. He owes her some sort of explanation, if she is sacrificing her lunch hour to sit with him after his break down in a public place.

However, no words come to him. He can’t explain that the question of a reporter send him spiraling, he can only sit there, feeling ashamed, not meeting anyone’s eyes as they pass, yet hyper aware of every movement everywhere.

He is truly relieved when Laurel gets up, saying: “I need to leave to make it back on time. I hope you’re alright.”

“Much better already,” Oliver says with a tight smile.

She walks away and he can feel himself unclench a little. The time just sitting in silence has helped a lot and he can now properly watch the people passing. Most have lost interest in him after he calmed down, which is good. He doesn’t want this to end up anywhere. At that, a thought pops into his mind. “Did anyone film me?” he asks Dig.

“No, made sure they didn’t.”

“Thank god for that,” Oliver breathes out. “Thank you, Dig.”

“Of course,” Diggle replies with that kind stoic expression he wears often.

There is a lot Oliver wants to express in that moment. How he is still kind of terrified of that happening, how grateful he is to Diggle for keeping people away, how he is sorry for nearly killing him, how he never wants it to happen again, how he wants to know how Diggle deals with it. However, he doesn’t know how to verbalize any of it and before he can think of a way, they’re interrupted by the Yamashiros returning from court.

Guilt crashes over him that he didn’t go see their trial, too caught up in his own head. He hopes they’ll understand and this isn’t the place for it.

Akio is running over to him, stopping short in front of him as he excitedly yells: “The judge approved everything. We’re going home soon!”

Despite knowing this moment was coming since he got Tatsu and Maseo out of that cage and officially back, he doesn’t feel prepared for the reality of it actually being here. He has spend the past two weeks helping them prepare for the courts and making the final memories, but it is real now. They’re actually leaving soon

Oliver knows he has their numbers and is always free to call or text and that he knows their address and can always come by. However, not being able to go see them is still weird.

It’s crazy that only eight weeks ago they were saying goodbye on the docks of Hong Kong. Then it seemed much easier to see them leave. Funny how fast things can change.

He has told himself to work on his relationships with everyone from home. Yet those relationship will never be like what he has with the Yamashiro family. They know him in a way no one here knows him.

They know him as he is now, what he has been through, the effects it can have on someone. They do not look at him and try to see who he used to be. He can talk to him and they aren’t horrified, but understand instead. He doesn’t know how he is going to connect like that to those he knew before, even if he has known them longer.

But he doesn’t show all that, instead he smiles back as brightly as he can manage. “Wow, buddy, that’s amazing!”

for various ocs but mostly dove i think.

jason and dove at some underground punk show and dove is dragging him into the moshpit because they are having the time of their life and they want to feel all that energy and they want him with them for it. with him beside him it's the safest they've probably ever been when moshing because he's Tall and Big and he's keeping a close watch on them and as much as he can they've each got a hand on each other or they're pressed close to each other. they're staying as close as possible and dove is all lit up and yelling so they can be heard over the music and the crowd and they're telling him this is the best night ever.

the first time jason actually holds sparrow because sparrow seeks him out when he wanted to be picked up. he's kind of shocked but that's only after he picks him up without thinking much about it, like it's natural. sparrow pats his face and tells him thank you like jason did more than just pick him up because sparrow is already so much like dove. and when dove sees it? they've gotta take a minute to process bc they're so full of love in that moment they can't think of anything else. before he has any idea what's happening jason has both baeks holding onto him because dove comes up and hugs him nd they're just pleased as hell n sparrow is snuggled between the both of them. meanwhile jason is still kind of processing.

the day that dove accidentally revealed they were a meta / speedster to helena. and how they tried to recover and walk that back. bonus if they try talking about how it happened (they do not remember) because they'd try and use what they do remember + whatever pops into their head to come up with a rather ridiculous story behind it.

logan toussaint and aeron and milan forcing (/lh) everyone to have a self care & family day at aeron's house. sam's doing lesson plans with a face mask on and his hair pushed back with a headband that logan bought for him specifically (it's bright green!). milan is sitting and painting noah's nails, noah has no idea what colors he chose either. milan is keeping that secret. thea, who also has a face mask, messing with aeron's hair while they ramble about whatever comes to mind. her hair is also done up in some legit french braids bc aeron? knows how for some reason.

the moment when levi faust realises all the ways their brother cares about them. like figuring out it's rory who cuts out or obscures nutrition labels or repackages food so there's no labels except for what the food is and the ingredients. or them realizing that if rory hands them that's usually in a wrapper (like candy) that he'll usually have it open already when he's passing it to them & he manages to take the wrapper before they look at it as they can actually enjoy their treat. or how rory will save their paper and put their laptop + phone on the charger and straighten things up when he finds them asleep in their homework.

also rory asking levi for help with his french homework bc he only knows so much and levi looking at him and saying that as much as it hurts them to say it, they have no idea how to rlly read in french or explain it. it's just their first language and they can speak it but they didn't learn more than that? bc all their school stuff was done in english and they only learned french at all bc that's all their dad would use around them and that's how they learned how to talk n stuff. but it was never a formal education. both of them stare at his homework confused. levi can help with very basic stuff. they hate that

I was never into the show, nor was I ever in the fandom, before some reason the TV show Lost invaded every part of my life for a very long time. It's probably because all of my friends watched it and all they ever did was talk about it. So I literally know so many weird conspiracy theories about it. 😅 And the thing is that I could never be able to tell you any of them off the top of my head, but if you mention some of them, I would be able to recall them that way.

I think I've mentioned this a few times. I watched a lot of movies that were not appropriate for me when I was young, mostly because my mom was a huge horror flick enthusiast. And I was an early reader, so I would read fat novels from the grocery store. The most memorable one being a crime book called. " Bad blood: family murders in Marin county." 😆

Ok so actually my biggest problem with the whole “Daenerys will burn KL” theory—not even the Mad Queen Dany theory, which is of course very sexist for obvious reasons, but just like, the idea that Dany will ~accidentally~ ignite the wildfire in the city, burning it all to the ground. That, at first, doesn’t sound that bad, but the longer I think about it the more I hate it because tbh it doesn’t do anything for her character? And also… that fate for her is just down right cruel.

Like, the most frequent argument I see on why this would be at all satisfactory for Dany’s arc is basically that it would be a sort of lesson for her about the dangers of unchecked power and the real threat the Dragons can pose on humans and that she shouldn’t use them to fight against other people. And that’s all well and good, excellent message… except that’s not something Dany’s ever really needed to learn? Not anymore that her fellow rulers, which I will touch on more detail later, but in general Dany has seen what the abuse of power can do. Starting with her conflicting feelings regarding Viserys and how she recognizes that even though he was her brother and she loved him, he also abused his power over her as her older brother, her only family and her king; she feels guilt about the atrocities Drogo committed to the lhazarene and tries to help them; she feels so much guilt about not handling things correctly in Astapor that she decides to throw away all her plans to go to Westeros and instead stays in Meereen.

And about not knowing the true danger that her dragons can pose? I mean, this is the same girl that literally agonizes across several of her ADWD chapters because Drogon killed a child, and then takes the extreme measure of caging Rhaegal and Viserion to prevent that from ever happening again. I think she’s at least a little bit aware that the dragons can be dangerous, thank you very much.

Ok so this got long...

Anyways, the only time Dany legit uses Drogon to harm someone and not just as bluff was at the house of the Undying, where she was being attacked, and in Astapor… and like, lmao, that asshole Kraznys mo Nakloz and the rest of his slaver buddies deserved it. Don’t at me. Also, Dany’s hardly the only one with a big magical and deadly beast at her disposal, why didn’t Robb had to go through some horrifying traumatic incident to learn he shouldn’t use Grey Wind in battle to tear his enemies’ throats. Bran will be learning about the dangers of abusing power, but that’s linked to his magic powers and an actual reprehensible thing he’s doing, not the use of his glorified prehistoric dog to kill, which he’s done, just like Robb. By all means let the narrative hold Dany accountable for her mistakes… but her actual mistakes and not shit she has no control over, because she doesn’t have much control over Drogon or the other dragons even though she’s trying to, and that’s very obvious in her last ADWD chapter where she’s delirious and Drogon could kill her at any moment, and she knows that.

The other big argument people make for Dany burning KL (even if it’s by accident!) is that it will teach her about the price of war, that someone as young as her shouldn’t be leading armies and conquering kingdoms, and that fighting for the Iron Throne is not a worthy cause, and I feel like that misses the actual point of her story by a mile. First of all because a) Dany is hardly the only teenage ruler in the story and b) this is a fantasy medieval story, a lot of the characters shouldn’t be doing the things they do, aaaand yet. Also speaking of other teenage rulers with far more power that they should have—Robb and Jon, being the biggest examples.

Granted, Robb and Jon aren’t exactly successful during their time as rulers, they’re literally betrayed and killed by their own men (even if Jon will technically come back for round 2 of bullshit he’s too tired for). But the moral of their stories is not that they lost because theirs was an unworthy cause and they were stupid kids wholly unprepared for their roles. And I actually partially agree! They are just kids, including Dany, and they shouldn’t be responsible for looking after so many others and going to battle, but their cause is still just and worthy, even with all the mistakes they make along the way. Robb didn’t loose because he was wrong in demanding justice for his family or trying to protect the riverlands from the Lannisters and their minions, he lost because Tywin Lannister was a giant coward who couldn’t take him out in a fair fight.

Likewise, it isn’t wrong of Jon to try to incorporate refugees from beyond the Wall into Westeros. He’s not too stupid and honorable to do politics like his father (how I hate when people insult Jon and Ned like that), and while he did some very obvious mistakes that inevitably ended in a coup and in him dying, this is more connected to his inability to let go of his ties with his family (mainly Arya or who he believes to be her), and in isolating himself from his friends and the people he could actually trust.

I’ve always thought that Dany and Jon share a parallel narrative within the story, so while Jon is struggling with that Dany is faced with similar problems. She cages her dragons, that to her represent the only family she has left, and she tries to compromise with the slavers, marry a man she doesn’t love, pretend she’s ok with reopening the fighting pit. While she tries her best to rule wisely in Meereen, it all comes at the cost of betraying herself and her beliefs, so it’s no surprise when it all crashes around her and she’s betrayed and nearly killed. Ironically, it is Drogon who comes to rescue her.

If they are monsters, so am I.—Daenerys II, ADWD.

This is hands down one of my favorite Dany quotes from the whole series, and I hate that it’s been given such a negative connotation in the fandom, when for me it represents Dany’s humanity and compassion at the fullest.

GRRM has a knack for humanizing the ‘monsters’ of his story, for showing the good in the outcasts and the ugly and the scary. He embraces their ‘otherness’ and makes them the heroes of his stories; Arya, Bran, Brienne, Dany, Tyrion, Jon, Theon and many others are all compared to monsters or beasts at one point or another in the books.

Dany sees herself in her dragons, literal monsters in every sense of the word. Later on she faces Drogon inside the pit, and in that moment you could say that she accepts that ‘monstrous’ part of her, and in doing so she’s saved from her fate of dying at the hands of the men who would crucify innocent children and gleefully profit off of the suffering of their fellow human beings while watching them fight each other to the death for their own amusement. Now tell me who’s the real monster in this situation.

But shortly before that happens, Dany is able to see the humanity in Tyrion, an outcast who has been branded as monstrous and unlovable due to his disability all his life, a man who has come to believe in his abusers’ rhetoric about him so strongly that he’s started to act cruel and detached. She saves his life. She sees value in his life when few others would, because she cares.

I’ve always find it funny that the “dragons plant no trees” is—another—example fans use to argue in favor of Dany’s descent into Darkness™ because the actual scene goes like this:

You are a queen, her bear said. In Westeros.

"It is such a long way," she complained. "I was tired, Jorah. I was weary of war. I wanted to rest, to laugh, to plant trees and see them grow. I am only a young girl."

No. You are the blood of the dragon. The whispering was growing fainter, as if Ser Jorah were falling farther behind. Dragons plant no trees. Remember that. Remember who you are, what you were made to be. Remember your words.—Daenerys X, ADWD.

Now am I the only one who finds it at least a bit relevant that it’s freaking Jorah Mormont aka Jorah the Enslaver whom Dany’s subconscious, at her literal lowest moment, utilizes to represent this particular thought, which btw I’ve always interpreted as Dany’s own self-loathing manifesting in her, and this is something she’s actually always struggled with—the idea that she’s not enough and she’s failing. Because above all things, even Westeros or the Iron Throne, what Dany wants is peace, she wants to plant trees.

When Dany made her descent, Reznak and Skahaz dropped to their knees. "Your Worship shines so brightly, you will blind every man who dares to look upon you," said Reznak. […] This match will save our city, you will see."

"So we pray. I want to plant my olive trees and see them fruit." Does it matter that Hizdahr's kisses do not please me? Peace will please me. Am I a queen or just a woman?—Daenerys VII, ADWD.

But of course the world doesn’t work like that, and so long as there’s Jorahs and Tywins and Eurons out there, men who would take the freedom of humans and submit them to their will, Dany can’t have the luxury of peace, just like Jon can’t have the luxury of belonging and family so long as there’s people still beyond the Wall who need his protection.

And I think that’s fine. It’s fine that Dany failed, it will help her develop as a character and realize that there’s no room to compromise with slavers, the metaphorical monsters of the story who do far more harm than the other more literal ‘monsters’ of the story. So that when she has to face down Euron Greyjoy—who btw, there’s a high chance he will end up stealing one of Dany’s dragons via Victarion using Dragonbinder… y’know, as in enslaving one of her children and using said dragon to inflict god knows what horrors, yet not many people ever consider this for some reason?—she will know. When she has to face down the Others, the magical ice fairies with no regard for human life, she will know.

That’s why I believe that it would make absolutely no sense for Dany to have to go through such a tragic and traumatic experience like burning a whole city even by pure accident, over something that’s either never been a problem with her character or she’s well into her way of learning anyways, so it would just feel repetitive. As I have pointed out, she’s already reached one of the lowest moments of her arc. Not saying there will be no other blows for her, and probably the destruction of KL will be one of them, and knowing Dany she will feel responsibility over it no matter what, but that doesn’t mean she has to be the culprit, intentional or otherwise.

time for some fic recommendations!

The @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange wraps up in less than four hours so I’m getting these in just under the wire!

Disclaimer/warning/whatever: I did not read all 1.3 million words :( I really was going to try, but it started to feel like homework after a while and these 102 writers deserve a better audience. So I took a bit of a break and as a result I had to triage a bit, choosing to read more but shorter stories. Sorry prolific multichap writers! You’re amazing and I will get there soon! I’ll even try to comment on every chapter to make it up to you! I also still have a hangup when it comes to talking about smutfic (I’m working on it, because it’s kind of dumb, but midwestern quasi-puritan conditioning is a real pain) so there won’t be any of those in my recs. Again, sorry smut writers! You’re great! Also, this is only main-exchange recs, because I haven’t read any of the Lil’ Oathkeepers yet.

And finally, I am reccing a few stories that I’ve been speculated to have written (and I’m not reccing the one I *did* write), so I’m sorry if that gives away too much information? But see also: less than four hours until author reveals. (also can I just say I adore the handful of people who guessed me as a writer-- I don’t even know what my style is but it’s really cool to know that other people do!)

So here we go!

Part 1: Stories aimed directly at my face (mostly metaphorically)

First and probably most obviously: Queens of Love and Beauty (T, 6k, modern AU) is my gift and I love it! Brienne runs a body-positive portrait studio with vintage glamour vibes. The author even threw in a reference to my abiding love for the calming power of spreadsheets as a special treat for me. There’s a wonderful interplay between historical and modern that highlights the contrasts within and between characters that I absolutely adore. It’s all so warm and pretty and it makes me extremely happy. AND THERE’S CORSETS.

Then we have the modern AUs that I didn’t personally request but still hit so many of my favorite things. Funny Way of Showing It (T, 3.5k) features our heroes as academic scientists (be still my heart!), with a wonderful cast of supporting characters as their grad students. It’s told from Pod’s POV too, which is an absolute delight. Unrestrained Summer Fun (T, 4.7k) has them meeting as children when Genna and Cleos rent a vacation house next door to Selwyn and Brienne. I love Brienne and Cleos being friends before Jaime comes onto the scene, and I adore the dynamic between the three of them once he does. Cleos, my boy! The canon stuff is done really well (I laughed so hard at one bit in particular that I don’t want to spoil) and the childhood-summer vibes are pitch-perfect. The beginning of devotion (T, 11k) features Brienne inheriting a decrepit Evenfall Hall and deciding whether to keep and restore it, and as someone working on a project house at the moment, I found this one very relatable. But on top of that, the slowly-unfolding backstory between our heroes is so SO well done, and everything’s woven together in an incredibly satisfying way. And finally, Climbing Mountains (G, 3k) starts with a Mary Oliver quote so I’m already sold. But then it goes on to spin a beautiful story of Brienne’s approach to risk, and how that relates to Jaime, and I am entirely made of heart eyes.

Finally (for this part), a couple of my favorites from the bounty of space-themed fics. As an avowed and die-hard fan of this kind of AU I was so happy to see so much fun genre work this year! And I haven’t gotten to some of the longer ones, so I’m looking forward to that and will rec as needed. It is not in the stars (T, 3k) is a Dune AU that I just felt in my whole body. I haven’t read Dune in ages but it’s a huge part of my genre-childhood and this story really captured the atmosphere. I would have happily read 100k of it, yet at the same time there’s something really magical about the economical storytelling. Absolutely the best use of Brienne’s blue eyes I’ve ever seen in an AU. And finally, I have to shout about show me where my skin begins (E, 41k), one of the only 30k+ fics I’ve read and one of the only E-rated, but the giftee was so effusive about it (and I trust their judgement) so I loaded it up before my long car trip and holy shirtballs folks, it is incredible. I will say that it doesn’t become E-rated until the last chapter, but also the E-rated stuff is incredibly beautifully done. The story takes place in an original space/sci-fi setting and it blew my entire mind. So much creativity, so much fantastic character work, so atmospheric (no pun intended). (just a note: space and/or genre fics seem to be getting a bit less attention at the moment, and while it’s cool to have preferences, I’d really suggest giving them a shot this year!)

FULL REVIEWS: “Enchanting Grom Fright”

The hype for this episode was unreal. We got the crew telling us that we weren’t ready on social media. It was a madhouse. To think that the little ship that could would have this big a leap in canon is unreal. Let’s just get to it.

The cold open starts with Luz trying to find more glyphs in her off time. I thinks it really shows her development so far. Now she’s willing to do the work to figure out her kind of magic, as oppose to say episode two where she just wanted to be great because she was “chosen.”

“My glyph skills are blossoming”

But then reality ensues...

Using the portal to let the wifi signal into The Owl House is not the dumbest reason I’ve heard to open an interdimensional portal between worlds but it is one of the most mundane. SOMEHOW, Luz can still receive texts from her mom FROM ANOTHER WORLD. Not that it makes too much of a difference since Luz barely answers them. 

As much fun as it is to focus on the magic and the shipping and the friendship and the curse, Luz still knows that she’s still lying to her mom. The guilt is there, but luckily being a main character keeps her too busy to think about it.

“Luz, time to fill that darling head of yours with...huuh huuh huuh HAKKK, mmm, mmm, mmh, delicious knowledge.”

It’s that time of year again that Luz doesn’t know about yet, Grom: The Boiling Isles’ weird version of prom. Every fantasy world has one.

Amity bumps into Luz, and I know this is going to sound weird, but I really like Amity’s “Watch it, nitwit.” Amity’s character has changed and developed from our perspective which is the perspective of Luz and The Owl House fam. But she’s not a completely different character. Amity still has a bit of a temper and gets agitated easily. It makes sense to me and I’m glad I haven’t found anyone be like “Hey if Amity is nicer, why did she get mad when she bumped into someone?” 

Amity is nicer to Luz and co. because she’s gotten to know Luz and co. You don’t treat everyone in your life the same. Amity is one of those people that you need to defrost with first. Belief is backed up by experience and so are people’s personas. (Not that persona. I’m being serious here.) Because of Amity’s experiences, she’s believed that in order to survive she has to put people at arm’s length, then when she gets to know you, she’ll decide if she wants to let you in or not. So I guess that means that based on her interactions with Luz, Amity has decided...

You know what? I’ll save that for my Lumity meta.

The popular theory is that Amity was going to put her note in Luz’s locker, hence why she bumped into them. But actually seeing Luz and being announced as grom queen probably made her lose her nerve.

Amity is announced to be this year’s grom queen. Luz is happy for her before Amity runs in shock and embarrassment. Okay.

Luz discovers the gym’s weapons cache (not a thing I thought I would ever type) and Amity explains grom. Since Luz is from the human world and all that.

Grom is a monster that lives under the school and needs to be defeated every year so it doesn’t invade the town. It’s a classic shape-shifting fear monster. Odd are I have (and so have you) at least seen three or four of these in our lives already. Amity doesn’t want to show the entire school her greatest fear, especially since she already knows what it is. Luz suggest talking to Bump and Amity says she’ll try.

Another scene of Eda and King laughing and mocking Luz. Because I liked it so much the first time.

Eda gets dressed up herself because she’s volunteered to chaperone grom. Luz tells her that Amity is grom queen but wishes that she could take her place. We get...you know and Luz walks off. 

“I think we should kiss to ease the tension.”

Luz randomly meets up with Amity in the woods because I guess Amity had the same idea to take a walk to clear her head. Whatever. Amity tells Luz that Bump wasn’t going to change his mind unless Amity found a replacement. Luz volunteers because...she’s Luz, friend to all.

Except maybe that spider.

The Blight Siblings try to help Luz train against grom only for Eda to find out about their little plan. Here’s where we find out why Eda volunteered to chaperone a Hexside event even though she hates that place:

That’s hilarious. To me. 

Luz and Amity have a moment before Luz’s debut and Amity thanks Luz for everything she’s done. They have more adorable banter before Luz takes the stage.

I’m guessing that’s not an expression in The Boiling Isles.

Luz faces Grom and it seems to be going better than everyone predicted until...you know

“Mija, this would be such a good shot for the trailer.”

Yup, we all predicted this. Luz’s greatest fear is her mom finding out that she’s been lying to her. Luz panics and takes off with Eda and Amity to chase after her.

Eda comes in for the save when Amity bursts in the scene saying “Boy let me tell you what.” She doesn’t really I just like saying that. You know, in my head. I mean, if you heard the way I was saying it out loud you’d probably think it was funny too but you know...text.

Grom gets a hold of Amity and transforms into her greatest fear. And we see why Amity didn’t want to face Grom in front of the whole school. She didn’t want everyone to see that Amity’s fear is very...emotional. Not physical. She’s not afraid of a giant spider or anything. It’s a little closer to the heart.

Amity clutching at her dress like a little kid is both the cutest and the saddest thing. This fear of hers is so bad it makes this fourteen year old feel like she’s four. I’m so sure she was about to cry right there. Or maybe that’s me. Could be both.

Luz picks up the note and discovers that Amity was trying to ask somebody out before she was announced as grom queen. Amity was afraid of being rejected. Luz tries to ease her fears by asking her out to grom. 

Trying seeing it from Luz’s point of view. She has no idea who Amity wants to ask out. Luz doesn’t even consider that it could be her because again, belief is backed by experience. Luz was considered a weirdo with no friends in the human world. She even said earlier in the episode that she got kicked out of her last school dance for dressing like an otter. Luz has no reason to believe that someone would like her romantically. She would like to. It is a fantasy of hers, but her experience tells her that other people don’t see her that way so she doesn’t consider that Amity wanted to ask Luz out.

I’ll save the rest for another blog post, although I did talk about this last year too.

But since Amity did want to ask Luz out and Luz asked her out instead, Amity’s fears are eased. Grom does what every fear monster does when their target overcomes their fears and says “Screw it, I’m just going to kick your ass!”

And then this happens:

As a Star vs the Forces of Evil fan, let me just say this is our Blood Moon Ball moment. The moment that the show tells the audience in John Oliver’s voice, “Yup this is the ship we’re doing so strap in folks.”

Luz and Amity work together to combine magic to take down Grom. It also helps that they eased each others’ fears. Luz can’t think about her mom if she’s focused on helping Amity. 

Luz and Amity defeat Grom in a blaze of glory. Luz being Luz, decides to ask Amity who she wanted to ask out just to see if she would tell you. Amity brushes it off.

“It doesn’t matter. After all, I already got to dance with the girl I like.”

Everyone celebrates but when Luz gets home she’s more tired than anything.

Maybe it was Grom, but Luz decides to give her mom a real answer. It’s been tough but it’s also been fun. There are good and bad days. Sometimes she feels like she doesn’t belong. But she has friends. They care about her, she cares about them, and that’s more than enough reason to stay. 

THEN THIS SHIT HAPPENS!

Yeah, the Meteora moment in Star vs the Forces of Evil. The moment where the show went “Never mind that shit. Here comes a complete change in the status quo.” 

Someone or something is sending Luz’s mom letters. It’s Luz’s handwriting, but it’s clearly not Luz since she can’t spell her name right. Season one already finished and we still have no idea what this is. 

I was all happy a second ago. Now I’m nervous as all hell. It’s a madhouse I tells ya. A madhouse!

FINAL SCORE: 5 - LOVED IT!

Wow. Just wow. This episode had everything. Jokes, plot, romance, character development, cameos, dancing, girls, MOM(?), crashing on your couch because technically I’m homeless.

I shipped Lumity before this, but this was the episode that told me that yes it was going to happen. We’re all in. 

But it’s not perfect.

Yeah, did any of you noticed that I didn’t even mention the B-plot? I’m going to be honest. The reason is...

I hate it.

I hate the B-plot so much that I skip it every time I watch this episode. I still don’t think Gus is that funny or interesting. Hell, Skara’s mini plot with her date and/or boyfriend was funnier.

But everything else about the episode more than outshines the B-plot so I still give it a five.
