The one-room shack is cramped and cluttered, filled with books, plants, a dusty piano, and of course, a coffin. One coffin.

“There’s no people for miles, and you’ll not be bringing any back here, so it’s goats and rabbits or nothing.” Remus raises his glass pointedly and takes a sip.  

“You’ve no curtains,” he observes.

“My plants like light.” Leave it to Remus to prioritise the happiness of some plants over his own.

Sirius cocks his chin towards the singular coffin, waiting for him to catch on. His dismayed expression does not disappoint.

“It looks roomy enough,” he offers innocently.  

“I’d prefer the sun,” Remus grumbles, looking rather petulant. They both know full well that they’ll be sharing that coffin come dawn.

“It’s adorable when you pretend to be repulsed by me.”

“I’m not pretending. And don’t call me that.”  

“What, adorable?” he smirks, creeping forward. “But you are adorable.”

“Yes because I’m trapped in the body of a child,” he snaps.

Oh. Chastised, Sirius wavers in place. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean...”  

Remus drains the remaining contents of his mug, blood staining the inner portion of his colourless lips. A single drop pools in the corner, and he can’t shake the urge to lick it away. It’s something he’s done before, he’d guess, something done regularly.

What happened between them? For once, they’re the same sort of monster; shouldn’t that have made things easier?

But then, sometimes it’s easier to love a different monster than a mirror reflection. Neither of them have ever particularly liked their reflections.

Comment:

This fic reminded me of how much I love reading fics with asexual characters. I loved following along on Sirius's journey of discovering his sexuality, and thought James's way of dealing with Sirius was adorable and hilarious, and loved how Remus reacts to everything.

hi. happy ace week! who wants a mini-series about wolfstar being asexual/aroace disasters? (masterpost here) cw- a fair bit of heteronormative/allonormative pov & internalised aphobia, but this is on the whole quite fluffy (this is unbeta'd. if you think something is not done right/well r.e. asexual identities pls pls pls lmk)

The first time it happened, they were in their third year. A girl in fifth year walked up to them mid-shenanigans in the common room, and straight up asked if Sirius wanted to go on a date to Hogsmeade. 

“Oh.” Sirius said, and hesitantly looked around at his friends. It was their first ever Hogsmeade weekend, and he couldn’t miss even a part of that— could he?

Remus was trying very hard not to laugh (or frown— he couldn’t tell), and James and Peter were trying very hard not to burst or nod furiously in his place. It was frankly hilarious, and if this kind of situation provided for these kinds of entertainment, then. Well. 

After he’d given his assent with a shrug, the boys waited silently until Amelia— that’s the girl’s name— disappeared up the stairs of the girls dorm, before James and Peter simply erupted.

“Mate! I can’t believe that just happened!” 

“You just got asked out! You lucky bastard—”

The chorus went on for a while, before it all turned into a lighthearted rumble on the sofa, but Sirius noticed how Remus was curiously silent through it all. Or, not so curiously, going by how nonchalant he usually was about their bullshit. Later, when Sirius asked, Remus had only shrugged and said “I don’t really care for these sorts of stuff,” before flipping another page in his book and putting an end to the matter.

As it happened, the date itself was fine, and thankfully didn’t take up the whole day. All the frilly pink and the vanilla tea had been supremely confusing, but Amelia was genuinely pleasant company. She owned a record player with all the Bowie albums and played the guitar, she'd told him. And all the while, Sirius couldn’t stop thinking about how Remus would find her impossibly cool. 

They kissed at the end. A wet little peck that was neither here nor there, but Sirius reckoned he just had to get better at it. It was kind of thrilling, to think he'd kissed a girl. This part, Remus reacted to with only a funny expression when Sirius told him. (He told Remus first. The others’ level of investment was slightly terrifying, at times.)

“James is going to lose his mind.” Remus coughed to hide a laugh, “It doesn’t sound like the greatest experience, though.”

“It was fine.” Sirius, for some reason, felt a little defensive. “And it’Il get better.” He added, “I’ll get better at it.”

“Will you now?” There. That funny lopsided smile again. “Careful, or James will start asking you for tips.”

I think that those who question how you can hate Snape but love Barty and Evan pose a very interesting point, but I also think people need to understand that this whole fandom is built off of the collected characterisation of these characters, contributed by millions of people over decades.

Snape was inherently a little bitch, from his school days. We know this- it’s canon and the way he bullies students further solidifies his character. He ignored a crying baby to hug the corpse of the love of his life who he called a slur.

The people who like Barty and Evan can acknowledge the fact that they were death eaters, and they were terrorists etc. But since we don’t have much information on them, people have the ability to pose the questions

What if… they weren’t always like this?

What if Evan was Asexual and was rejected from his family as he would not provide heirs?

What if Barty felt like he was never good enough for his father?

The point is, WE DONT KNOW

Im never trying to excuse their canonical actions. But, in my opinion, Canon is utter shit and I’d like to believe that Regulus Black faked his death and spent the rest of his life hunting the horcruxes.

It’s the best thing about fandom like this- nearly everything is subjective

Stop writing marauders fics and making peter this outcast that they ignore and didn't love. His betrayal hurt for a reason. Remus truly believed Sirius did it. And Sirius didn't want Pete dead because he let him go to Azkaban. No, he wanted him dead because he did what they promised they never do and that's hurt each and he did that. And I know for a fact James would resent him because he didn't just put James and Sirius in danger, he put lily and harry in danger. But secretly he'd forgive him. He'd pray it was a trick and peter was tortured. Or he was being a spy for Dumbledore and had to say something. James loved peter. Remus loved peter. Sirius loved peter. PETER IS A MARAUDER WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. That doesn't mean you have to hate him. But stop making him this terrible, evil, scheming, person.

Remus: little bit overwhelmed, but happy to be there because it makes Sirius really happy, and he enjoys the stickers and glitter and all the prettiness of it. 7/10 on the proudness front

Sirius: absolutely in his element, I mean he's got the glitz and glam the charm the style, he's always showing people Remus, and helping the younger ones with their flags or glitter and he's basically just leading the whole thing, the life of the party 10/10 on the proudness front

James: pretty excited and happy, he'll be helping Sirius and enjoying himself, vibing to the music and the whole heartbeat of the place ... he might sneak off to a back alley and have a small gay hookup with a certain younger Black brother, but who knows? :) 8/10 on the proudness front

Peter: very overwhelmed, panicky and prefers to hide in a corner with his fellow shy and quiet asexuals, supports his friends and their crazy pride plans tho 4/10 on the proudness front
