La Vie en Rose
jason todd x fem!reader
aka jason wildly preferring you over everyone else
4 in 1 blurbs
warnings: standard batfam arguing etc.

You sit curled up embarrassingly close to Jason on the couch, head on his shoulder. The team is still in their gear as they filter into the living room, masks and helmets discarded in scattered locations between here and the cave. The mission had been fairly simple and with all of them together it only took a couple hours to finish up.
As you waited, Alfred had kept your mind busy in the kitchen while he taught you how he makes his famous ice cream from scratch.
The clamor of the heroic partyâs return had made itself known sooner than later, and you think your face must have displayed your emotions nicely because Alfred nodded you away with a small smile and no second thought.
Youâd walked into the living room, weaving through the mess of siblings until a hand snuck out on your left and grabbed your wrist. You barely had time to look at him before Jason pulled you down to sit next him on the sofa. He wrapped an arm over your shoulder, pulling you in and leaving virtually no space between you. His armor sits heavy against you, but a welcome weight on your shoulders.
Tim plops down on the couch across from you and you can just make out a bit of blood on the side of his head, aptly accompanied by an irritated look sprawled across his face. Itâs not enough blood to be concerned aboutânot for themâbut you can venture a guess that whatever they were up to shouldnât have called for any injuries and his pique is likely directly related to that.
Though Dickâs goading aura might have something to do with it too, as he comes crashing down next to him a second later, partially sitting on Timâs cape and pulling him into an awkward angle.Â
Nightwing doesnât seem too perturbed by the younger vigilanteâs agitation and curt manner of pushing him off.
The others are too caught up in chatter to pay much attention to you, and you can be certain thatâs why Jason takes that moment to press a kiss to the side of your head. He lets his lips linger there for just a second as you lean into him.
Alfredâs own entrance is the only thing able to subside the flurry of conversations skirting around the room.
âA job well done,â he commends with a nod. âA selection of ice creams awaits you in the kitchen.â
He gives you a sly wink before retreating back through the swinging door, leaving Stephanie and Cass to practically trip over themselves trying to beat each other to the kitchen. Robin follows after unhurried, mask still on, with his hands behind his back.
Jason kneads your thigh before pushing himself up to stand. He turns back, looking down to you. âWhat do you want?â he asks softly.
You hum, "Just strawberry's good."
Tim sits up, "Can Iââ
"No, you've got legs,â Jason grumbles, stalking off to the kitchen.
Dick barks out a laugh and you bite back a smile.
Tim looks absolutely aghast.Â
âThatâs such bullshit. You know, he used to be nice.â
âNo he didnât,â Dick laughs, shaking his head. âNot since youâve known him.â
Stephanie stumbles out of the kitchen then, the door hitting her back on the way, as she mutters a curse behind her. You can vaguely makeout Jason grunting something back before she rolls her eyes.
Steph looks at you, shaking her head as she returns to her seat, âYou live like this?â
You shrug, âHeâs nice to me.â
âYeah, I bet,â Tim grumbles.
Jason returns after Cass a minute later with a bowl of strawberry ice cream and two spoons. He expertly ignores Timâs unwavering glare as he resituates himself beside you.
He scoops your legs up over his lap and positions the bowl in between you, wrapping the sleeve of his jacket around it so that the cold porcelain doesnât make contact with your skin.
The others have set themselves up so that the four of them are stuffed up against each other on the sofa adjacent to you, very obviously examining you both.Â
And while youâre willing to acknowledge the amused stares and singular glare, Jason only sighs heavily, rolling his eyes as he glares at the coffee table.
Only a few seconds of this are allowed to go by before he pulls over a throw pillow and sets it over your knees, so that it rests atop your heads like a mini-fort, successfully blocking out his siblings' view of the two of you.
You smile and press a light kiss to his shoulder as he simmers.
Regrettably, you miss the way Damian side-eyes the pillow above you as he re-enters the room, perching himself atop the back of the couch behind the others.
âThis is so nice,â Dick preens. âHe used to just leave the room when too many of us gathered in one place. Now he has to stay.â
Stephanie watches the makeshift fort with wary eyes, scooping ice cream into her mouth. âYeahâŠI donât wanna freak you guys out but, uhâŠâ
Itâs quiet for a moment and you guess Cass is speaking.Â
Youâre proven right when Stephanie starts up again, âMy thoughts exactly.â Her voice drops into a raspy whisper that isnât really meant to go unheard, âI donât know who the hell that is, but it is not Jason.âÂ
âThis is unprecedented,â Damian mumbles, dipping into his own chocolate cup.
âDo they always talk about you like youâre not here?â you ask Jason quietly.Â
âYes,â he grumbles with a scornful look directed at the bowl.
A low hiss can be heard immediately after, âIâve never heard him whisper before, what the fuck?â
You canât hide your laugh as well as you mean to, but you know Jasonâs light swat to your thigh is nothing more than a rib.
Mumbles continue along the other couch, mostly going unacknowledged, until Tim busts out, âHe doesnât even like strawberry!â
Jason snaps the pillow out of the way, âThe fuck do you know about what I like?â
Tim resets his posture with one hell of an attitude, snarking, âWell I can name one thing you really seem to fuckingââ
Jason grabs the pillow harshly and chucks it at Tims head which connects with a loud thwack.
Damian swats it away before it can knock him off balance, though his scowl is only half worth what Timâs is.Â
âYouâre unbelievable,â he says with a sneer. âThis is why you donât get invited to movie night anymore.â
Jason doubles back at him, âSorry, is this not your own fucking house?â
Tim huffs, âYes, which iââ
âThen get your own goddamn ice cream!â
Tim huffs as he stands, sending Jason a pointed look. âIâm going because I want to.â
Jason barely gives him a sardonic nod as he stomps off.
âGet me some too!â Dick calls back, only for the back of his head to be met with a sideways grimace from Tim.
As he leaves, the focus of the room seems to shift towards Damian dripping chocolate onto his cape and it fades away from there.
You turn to Jason, lowering your voice to just below a whisper, âIf you donât like strawberryââ
âI like it,â he tells you, leaving no room to argue as he takes a bite.

âI swear to God, he better be dead,â Stephanie mutters to herself.
She shuts her phone off and tosses it into the passenger seat with a huff. Her fingers drum against the steering wheel as she scans the sidewalk across from her car.
The night before the majority of the team had been involved in a less-than-successful plan, which some have called âa display of complete idiocy and inability to circumspect.â
Then Tim had to go and make a joke about that word choice in what was apparently a bad moment. This gave way to a harsher punishment of the team being forced to clean the batcave foot by square footânotably, an impossible task.
So naturally, they had to retaliate.
The plan was to dismantle the batmobile piece by piece and leave it a collection of parts for Bruce to find. Problem being, the group as it stood didnât possess the capability to do so without doing a great deal of damage to the parts. Damage, that the family was not willing to face extra retribution for.
Fortunately, they knew just the man for the job.Â
Unfortunately, said man has devoted his life to ignoring their messages, favoring to live peacefully and distantly from them. And because that peace and distance does come with an add-on of borderline complete secrecy from his family, no one had any idea where to look for him.
So, Stephanie decided to do the next most rational thing and track down your location. Sheâd hoped he would be with you like he always is, but for seemingly the first time in the last yearâheâs nowhere to be found.
Now, was revenge for a minor-slight by Bruce so important that it required Stephanie to take all of these steps to get a hold of Jason? No, absolutely not. Sheâs pretty sure that the others have already given up on it by now and started cleaning. But itâs about the principal. And also, she does not want to clean the floors of a cave.
She jumps up in her seat when she spots you exiting a store, scurrying to unbuckle and pry the car door open.
Sheâs across the street in half a second, running directly into your line of sight. It actually wouldâve been very difficult for her to miss your line of sight, considering sheâd landed only a good six inches in front of your face. âHey!â  Â
âOh, fuckââ you jump, grabbing your chest. You take a breath when you realize who it is, less surprised now by the theatrics of the introduction. âHey Steph.â
âHey,â she smiles casually, like she didnât do what she just did. âSo Jasonâs been ignoring us and I need to get a hold of him,â she tells you.
You nod, still collecting yourself. âOh. I donât know where he isââ
She shakes her head, âThatâs fine. Can I use your phone to call him?â
You frown, âIs something wrong?â
âWith him, yeah,â she snarks. âI called him, Tim called him, Dick called him, Cass called him, Damian called him, we used Bruceâs phone to call himâthat was a bit of a long shot, but still. This is our last option. Well, not our last option, if this doesnât work I could get really invasive, butââ She shakes the thought from her head, âNevermind.â
You nod blankly, taking in the mountain of information sheâd just handed you. âHowâd you know I was here?â
She scans your eyes back and forth for a second before her own widen in realization and sheâs shaking her head. âNo, no, donât worry weâre not tracking you! I just hacked into the traffic cameras to find you.â
âOh!â you exclaim, nodding some more. âOkay.â
You hand her your phone without any further questionsâfor your own sakeâand she happily accepts.Â
âYou know I texted him 115 times?â she tells you as she scrolls through your contacts.
You furrow your eyebrows, watching her click his name and press the phone to her ear. âDid you count?â
âWell, I had the time, diâyou son of a bitch! One ring?â Stephanie scorns into the phone.
You can hear Jason groan on the other end of the line.Â
He says something to Stephanie that she follows up with a firm shake of her head.
âNo,â she says defiantly. âShe let me use it.â
Stephanie rolls her eyes, not pleased with his response. âWhat if it was an emergency?â
She listens for a second, skeptical look on her face.
She gasps suddenly, âI am not overstepping, we thought you were dead!â
Over the course of about ten seconds the shock on her face drops into just-been-caught guilt. âWell, I mean we considered it.â
You imagine Jasonâs telling her to give you your phone back as she stands her ground, pushing, âIf you promise to text me back.â
A short response on his end.
âPromise to text me back!â
Thereâs a brief lull before sheâs giving a self-satisfied nod and jostling your phone back into your hands. âHere ya go. Thanks, babe!â She smiles wide at you before jogging back across the street, not waiting for the cars.
You smile as you watch her go, putting the phone up to your ear, âHey Jay.â
You can hear the relief on the other end of the line. âHey sweetheart. You know if you see Steph in public, you can just walk away?â
âIâm not going to walk away from your family.â You look again across the street, âAlso I donât think that was an option for me this time.â

âThat thing is fucking scary.â
Cass smiles fondly, signing, âI think heâs cute.â
Tim eyes the way Salem traipses around his feet, yellow eyes staring up at him. âWhyâs it even here?â
Jason rolls his eyes, continuing to scroll on his phone. âHeâs hers. Deal with it.â
Tim scrunches up his mouth. âShe knows I hate it. And she, unlike you, wouldnât subject me to this just for the hell of it. So again I ask: why is it here?â
Jason huffs, looking up from his phone. âWhat do you want me to say? He wants to be.â
Tim scoffs at that, ââIt wants to beâ? Youâre the one who put it in the car.â
âNo, I didnât,â Jason says factually.
Tim looks at him sideways as Salem leaps onto Jasonâs lap and nudges his hand up. Jason follows along as requested, petting the top of Salemâs head with an open palm.Â
Tim squirms to the other side of the couch with a look of disgust on his face. Salem watches him the whole time. Â
A smile adorns Cassâ face as she signs, âShe says he can read peopleâs energy.â
Tim huffs, resting his head against his fist. âWhat does that even mean?â
The conversation is cut off by the clatter of you and Dick stumbling into the room, carrying a freshly painted headboard. Blue paint coats both of your hands and has no doubt stained your clothes.
Youâre clearly struggling a bit to keep your grip on your end, the weight of the wooden frame dragging your arms down.
Jason stands and Salem flows along with his movements easily, leaping down onto the hardwood. He comes over and helps you lift your end of the frame with a stupid amount of ease, to the point that youâre not even holding any of the weight up anymore. The three of youâless so youâmove the headboard and lean it up against the wall. After it's set down Jason steps back and looks over it gingerly.
âIt looks good,â he murmurs to you, quiet enough to not give his brother the satisfaction of his approval.
Dick had asked you over to help him paint Damianâs bed frame as a surprise for him for not getting in any âaltercationsâ at school this semester. Youâd decided on coating it with his favorite color first and then fill it in with a collection of what Dick has âon good authorityâ are his favorite animals. Itâs a fairly random assortment that youâre not sure adds to or disproves Dickâs credibility. Youâd spent the better half of the afternoon googling animals youâd never heard of just to make sure you projected their likenesses accurately. Dick had been very clear that you had to be precise on the details because Damian would know if he was really looking at a komodo dragon painting or if it was âsome common lizard.â
You sigh, âI hope he likes it. Iâm worried we did it too childish for him.â
âHe is a child,â Jason says plainly.
âBut he is not childish,â you counter. And he sure isnât. Youâd had a hard enough time convincing Damian to watch cartoons, adding a colorful animal mural to his bedroom might be one step too far. Youâre still trying to figure him out.
âHeâll like it,â he says firmly.
You smile, slipping around under his arm and tucking yourself into his side.
Not a moment later, Dick slings an arm around Jason's shoulder, grinning as he pulls his brother in close.
Jasonâs immediately louring. "No, get away from me."
Dick, unfazed and still smiling, removes his arm and takes a big step to the right. You do the same, figuring he needs his space, but you get caught by the wrist before you can do more than sway to the side.Â
âNot you.âÂ
He pulls you back under his arm, wrapping it around the front of your shoulders. You hook your fingers around his forearm, letting your hand hang.
You hear a double-clap from the other side of the room that has you both turning around to face Cass.Â
She signs something to Jason with a fond smile on her face.Â
You look back and forth between them as Jason waves her off. âWhat?â
He shakes his head, âItâs nothing. She saidâshe said weâre cute.â
You smile up at him and he deflectsânot so subtlyâand starts nudging you back towards where the group is gathered, now all standing.Â
Dickâs quick to start bragging off to the room about how great of a job the two of you did and how really complex and daunting it actually is painting animals for a child.
As he talks, your eyes find Jason, whoâs definitely about to roll his eyes any second now. A bit subconsciously, your hand comes up to brush Jasonâs white streak of hair back, away from tickling his forehead.Â
On the other side of Jason, Tim does the same, sweeping Jasonâs hair back in a much more mocking manner.Â
This gives way to Jason smacking his hand away, harder than he needed to.
"WhaâYou let her do it!" Tim protests, overplaying how much the slap hurt.
Jason scowls, "She can do whatever she wants."
Tim drops his shoulders, looking at Jason as if heâd been scandalized. âOh but I canât?â
âNot if it involves touching me,â Jason grumbles.
Tim steps closer, putting a finger to Jasonâs chest. âYouâre such aââ
From the floor, Salem hisses up at Tim, successfully startling the teenager. âAuahhââ
He stumbles backwards, grimacing at the cat.Â
âFucking demon,â he hisses, walking away.
When Timâs far enough away and Salemâs seemingly satisfied, he brushes up against your leg, purring.Â
You peer down at him with a furrowed brow.Â
âWhatâs Salem doing here?â

âIâm not doing this shit with you.â
âNo, come on, 9 out of 10 times is what you said. How âbout just once? Beat me one time at anything, Jaybird.â
âAnything?â Jason asks like he knows damn well Dick canât swear on that word.
Rightly so, Dick backtracks. âSomething agreed upon.â
Jason throws his hands up, partially in exasperation, partially relenting.
Dick smoothly turns his back to him, announcing, âOpening up the room for ideas.â
Damianâs eye roll is almost audible from the corner armchair, where his attention is unmoved from intently sharpening a blade heâd recently come into possession of.
Bruce similarly remains unbothered in his seat, trying to read despite the distractions.Â
âOoh, okay. Okay.â Stephanie wiggles up a little on the couch. âYou could race!â
Dick shakes his head negatively, âI literally just busted my knee up two days ago, Steph.â
âConvenient,â Jason mumbles.
âYou were there!â Dick exclaims with an open mouth.
Steph continues, âUmâŠâ
Cass waves to the room from her position upside down on the couch, head hanging down next to Stephanieâs legs. Attention successfully acquired, she signs, âStaring contest.â
Jason grimaces, âThat sounds like a nightmare.â
Dick gives him a faux-smile.
âYou should play chicken,â Damian chimes in, holding up his knife.
âNo,â Bruce drones monotonously as he flips a page.Â
âTic tac toe?â Steph suggests.
Cass is already shaking her head as she scrunches up her mouth in thought. Â
Jason rolls his eyes, âWhat are we, five?â
Dick nods, cracking his knuckles as he thinks. âNo, we need something that really proves our worth.â
Bruce looks up from his book, staring numbly through his brow, but remains silent.
âYou could arm wrestle,â Steph suggests.
The elder brother twitches at that, âUh, no.â
Cass moves past that before a joke has the chance to be made. âHandstand contest?â she suggests.
Jason shrugs, âYeah, sure.â
The elder brother looks at him incredulously. âYouâll do a handstand contest with me?â
âThatâs what I just said.â
Dick scoffs, âJaybird, Iâm an acrobat, youâre just some guy.â
Jason, not giving him the courtesy of eye contact, pulls his sweatshirt off from his back. âWell, youâre a lot of things, arenât you?â
Dick throws his head back with a squint.
Jason fishes his phone out of his pocket and Dick follows suit, offended stare maintaining all the while.Â
No exchange is required as they both toss their phones across the room, landing together with a rough clatter on Damianâs lap. Damianâs resulting glare is borderline disgusted.
Dick starts them off, âAlright, go. OneâŠtwoâŠâ
Both men push up onto their hands, muscles flexing as they find their balance. Dickâs form is better, of course, but Jason looks to have a stronger foundation.  Â
They both hold strong as several minutes go by with the brothers only maintaining the attention of some of the room, and the interest of none of it.
Stephanie huffs and tilts her head, thoroughly unentertained with the consistency theyâre both managing.Â
âStarting to wish theyâd picked something that moved along a little faster,â she murmurs to Cass.
Dick glances over at the younger brother, clearly displeased with his lack of trouble keeping up with him. He shuffles closer one hand at a time, using the decreased distance to poke at Jason with his foot, trying to knock him over.
Jason kicks him back harder, âHey! Donât be a dickââ
âVery funny,â Dick leers.
They both end up finding a struggle to keep balance and are forced to mind their own. Â
A chime rings out from the corner that has heads turning briefly in his direction before coming back to the competition.Â
âWhose was that?â Dick calls out.
Damian leans over and inspects the screens with disinterest. âToddâs.â
Jason adjusts his position, âWho is it?â
Damian responds with your name.Â
âAnd?â
He picks up the phone shrugging like he couldnât care less, âShe wants to know if you want to go see some movie.â
Thereâs a brief silence before Jason drops out of the handstand, standing up.Â
Dickâs blood-flushed face peers up at him, bewildered. âWait, what?â
The family watches with wide eyes as Jason picks his sweatshirt up off the floor and tugs it back on.
Stephanie gawks, bordering on laughing. âAre you serious?â
âYeah,â he says simply.
Dick lets himself fall into a kneeling position with a huff, âYou would rather go to some movie you donât even know the name of than win a bet?â
Jason moues at him, âUh, yeah.â
He tosses a twenty at Dick, and plucks his phone from Damianâs hand as he strolls past him, typing out a reply.
Cass sits up a bit and signs up to Stephanie, âDoes he even like movies?âÂ
Bruce, now attention now fully removed from his book, watches Jason exit with the slightest hint of a smile. Dick sits dumbly on the floor, staring after him with an open-mouth.Â
Damian twists the knife in his hands around contemplatively before rising to stand.Â
âI will go,â he announces, dropping his blade onto the seat of the chair. Jason grumbles a no but Damian follows after him just the same.

Tim Drake will never be anyoneâs favorite.
And thatâs fine. Really.
Heâs known it for as long as heâs been Robin. From the moment he slipped on the red and yellow, ignoring Bruceâs protests, he knew he wasnât what anyone wanted. He wasnât Jasonâthe fierce, untamed fire that burned bright and was extinguished far too soon. He wasnât Dickâthe golden son who carried the mantle with effortless charm and unwavering grace. He wasnât Damianâdestined for this life, born of Bruceâs blood, molded from the very beginning to take his place in the legacy.
No, Tim was the placeholder. The patch for a wound no one wanted to acknowledge.
He saw it in Bruceâs eyesâthe resentment that simmered under the surface. Bruce never said it out loud, but Tim felt it every time Bruce looked at him wearing the colors of his dead son. Tim wasnât Jason, and he never would be, and no amount of dedication or sacrifice could make up for that.
With Dick, it was something different. Dick was kind, but it wasnât the kind of kindness that meant he cared. Tim knew he was a second chance, a way for Dick to atone for the mistakes he made with Jason. To be better. To be a good brother this time. But Tim wasnât Dickâs brother, not really. He was a proxy for the one Dick had lost.
Even Alfredâwarm, unshakable Alfredâlooked at him like a Band-Aid on a broken bone. Alfred had loved Jason, mourned him, and Tim could never fill the space Jason left behind. Tim knew Alfred cared for him, but it wasnât the same. It wasnât the same as the love for the boy whoâd taught him how to hope for a better tomorrow.
When Jason came back, Tim felt the weight of his hatred. It wasnât subtle, wasnât hidden. Jason looked at him like he was a thief wearing stolen colors, like Tim had no right to call himself Robin. And Jason wasnât wrong. Tim had known, from the moment he put on the suit, that it didnât belong to him.
Steph and Cass were his best friends, his family in their own way, but they had each other. The two of them moved in sync, orbiting each other in a way that made it clear there wasnât room for anyone else. Tim loved them both, but he wasnât part of their world. Not really.
Then there was Damian. Tim knew what Damian saw when he looked at him: an interloper, someone who stole his birthright before he even had a chance to claim it. Damian hated him for it, and Tim couldnât blame him.
Duke, newer to the family but still brighter than Tim could ever hope to be, looked at Dick and Jason with something close to awe. He gravitated toward them in ways Tim could never inspire.
Tim had always known he wasnât anyoneâs favorite. Not Bruceâs. Not Dickâs. Not Jasonâs or Alfredâs or Stephâs or Cassâs or Damianâs or Dukeâs.
And that was okay.
It had to be.
Because Tim didnât become Robin to be loved. He didnât do it for approval, or acceptance, or anything close to recognition. He became Robin because someone had to. Because someone needed to be.
Tim had never expected to be anyoneâs favorite. He just wanted to matter, in whatever small way he could.
But sometimes, when he sees the way they all fit together, the way they orbit around each other, he wonders what it would feel like to be the center of someoneâs world. Just once. To be someoneâs first choice.
But heâs not.
And he never will be.
#tim drake#batfam#batfam dynamics#not the favorite but still the backbone#i had the idea to make this braindead and have tim become dannys favorite but that could be its own seperate post if anyone wants to read it#Tim shaped his belief early on that he would never be anyoneâs favorite#and has unconsciously chosen not to acknowledge how those views have shifted over the years#because sometimes it still haunts him that they once disliked him so much

It think there's a very important distinction between Boy wonder 1 and Boy wonder 2, as Grayson as Robin and Todd as Robin.
Richard "Dick" Grayson:
Anger issues
First born son (first robin)
Was taught that the mission comes before feelings
Adultified in very early age.
Jason Todd:
Trust issues
Wild cat (was an orphan growing up in bad neighbourhood)
Second born son
Was taught life is precious.
So, in my literary analysis, is people read the characters wrong. Dick has rage issues and Jason has betrayed issues. It is the most simple rhetoric in a family. The first born is taught to obey, to suppress rage, to be what is needed. And the second born is allowed to express but punished for it, asked to emote but harmed for it. The first born craves solace in words of praise, knowing that they could never compare. And the second born is always shot down in the shadows of legacy, knowing they could be better.

What would happen if Damian and Duke met before Duke joined the Bat Family?
So we know Duke and Damian are in high school?(or middle school in Damian's case)
Okay, so if for some reason Duke gets a Wayne scholarship to go to Gotham Academy when he's older and suddenly he sees an 11-year-old Damian being harassed by some xenophobic and racist bullies who and he doesn't defend himselfâŠ
He just knows he shouldn't get involved there, the abusers are privileged rich kids but his girlfriend and friends call him an irresponsible crazy person for a reason
and he just lets out a punch
They were just three rich kids and he's from Narrows, he knows how to throw a punch.
After hitting the abuser, he simply says, "You don't know what you've gotten yourself into, you fucking black idiot."
and they only run away and accuse him whit a teacher or even the principal
Duke simply gives they the finger and turns around to see the boy he protected and WHAT SURPRISE!
The boy he protected is Damian FUCKING Wayne the son of BRUCE WAYNE
Damian just stares at him and then says:
Damian: I didn't need your help, I could beat them.
Duke: Shut your mouth you needed help man
and from there he protects Damian.
Since then, Duke has quietly adopted him. He seats him with his group, saves him a seat, and brings him fruit snacks. Damian hates this (and everyone knows it's a big lie).
Then a few months later, Bruce comes along with this vigilante.
The boy walks in confidently, wearing a new suit and a calm expression. No one recognizes him. Until Damian sees him⊠and smiles slightly.
Damian: What, you got lost again and that's why you're late, Thomas?
Duke:Bro⊠not even outside of school can I rest from you and your unresolved traumas.
And EVERYONE. STOPS.
Damian, as if nothing had happened, snatches a piece of fruit Duke has tucked into a compartment in his tactical belt, casually bites into it, and continues walking.
Duke doesn't even flinch. He just nudges Duke on the head with his palm, like someone caring for his annoying little brother.
while Damian tells Duke that he will show him the entire Batcave.
and everything becomes chaotic.

Bloodborne packs so much character study into such short frames that it's actually unbelievable. This acknowledgement that Bruce actively puts himself in (more) danger to protect his kids; Tim's casual, "Lol, he thought," moment.

Original Work:Â Twinsies by SunshineAndRainbows
DC: Cassandra Cain & Tim Drake | Rating:Â General Audiences
Summary:Â
It all started with the haircut. It starts with the fact that Cass never calls him brother again. It starts when Bruce looks him in the face, and calls him "Cass, sweetheart." It ends with Tim looking in a mirror, and wondering if Tim Drake The Boy hasnât been just another mask to put on all along. It ends with⊠them(?) wondering who, exactly, might be underneath. Another repost of an old story that was posted on my main blog and AO3.
If you like the story, consider tipping the author. If you can't, please reblog.
SFW
The envelope was sitting on the laptop he had left out when he went to get coffee.
With a sigh, Tim pushed the envelope onto the couch and opened up his laptop before taking a sip of his coffee.
"Seriously, does he think I don't know what his handwriting looks like?"
He finished reading a few reports and took another drink of coffee, feeling the jolt of warmth and caffeine hitting.
He glanced over at the envelope, but didn't touch it.
And nearly jumped when a hand reached over the couch, and dropped a bag on the couch.
"Dick." He wasn't completely sure if he was using his oldest brother's name, or just describing him for making him jump, but Dick just laughed.
"One does not live by caffeine alone." He leaned over the couch, jiggling the bag, and Tim smelled the food from the takeout containers. His stomach rumbled and he decided to move his laptop so he could eat.
And as soon as he did, Dick saw the envelope.
"What's this?"
"Damian. Don't know, didn't open it."
But he didn't need to, did he? Damian had done this before. Notes left to show he was "the superior Robin", photographs of awkward moments in the field, anything he could do to get under Tim's skin. And Tim really didn't need Damian for things to get under his skin today.
"Well, I will."
"Dick, I don't need to know."
"I do. Especially if I am going to talk to Damian. He can't keep doing things like this and expect us to trust him."
"Fine, go ahead."
Tim grabbed a container of pan fried noodles and a burrito, trying to turn his irritation into confusion at Dick's jumbled smorgasbord of food.
"Maybe he is learning though. Tim, I think you should look at this one."
"Fine." Tim wiped his hands off and held up a hand to take whatever Damian had decided to send him today.
The hand drawn picture was a surprise, since Damian was ferally protective of his art. But it was the subject of the picture that held Tim completely still.Â
The dancing, laughing couple who were dressed to the nines were exactly how they had looked.
Tim just hadn't thought about his parents being like that, hadn't seen them that way in his head even, for years.
But looking at the picture.
"I was checking in because I remembered today was the anniversary of the attack on your parents, when you found them. But Damian wasn't here when that went down. I think he was trying to help."
"Like you bringing food. I guess the picture wouldn't run off, unlike the cat."
Dick snorted. "You're lucky he didn't bring you his cow. But I think you should keep this."
Tim looked at the picture, and nodded. He put it in his wallet so that he could look at it more later and picked up the food again, because he did need to have more than just coffee.
"I have a couple more reports to do, but if you want, we can game after, until you have to go on patrol."
"I could do that."
"I'll send you an invite."
Tim read the report, hearing both pings as the invites to join his game went out.
"You invited Duke?"
Tim shook his head. "He is scheduled to patrol by the docks for two hours yet. But, Damian wasn't scheduled for patrol. There should be a couple hours that he can game before bedtime."
A ping came back to Tim's phone and he figured he could finish reading the reports in time to game.
Dick sat down on the arm of the couch. "I'm proud of both of you for trying."
"The picture gives me hope that Damian is learning."
Dick gave him a look. "You're planning on absolutely murdering him in the game?"
Tim smiled. "Absolutely!"

I don't know where I saw it first, but the idea that Dick is like nonverbal when he's younger and kinda reverts to it when he's older too and the only person who can read him accurately is Bruce means so much to me
just just just-
Superman, eyes narrowed at little Robin!Dick who's sitting on the chimney: Hmmmm. He wants me to fly Batman, tiredly dealing with the leftover goons nearby: No. Superman, eyes twitching as he tries to telepathically reach Dick: He wants to fly Batman, eyes rolling behind the mask: He always wants to fly. That doesn't count. Superman, about ready to bribe Dick into speaking: He wants... Robin!Dick, completely unbothered by Clark's desperate attempts: :) Batman, exasperated and joining his son again: He wanted to see you punt that car into the sky. But since you couldn't understand him... Robin!Dick, who actually wanted Bruce to hug him and is now getting his wish but is still a little shit: :( Clark, panicking: Wait no- ~ Oliver, babysitting: Do you want... to go play videogames? Little Dick Grayson, staring at him wide eyed: :/ Oliver, frowning because he will crack this thank you very much Dinah for your vote of confidence: how about... the park? Bruce, who hasn't left yet because Oliver is helpless: No. Oliver, intent: The movie theater? Bruce, concerned at how no one is able to understand his son when it's so easy: No. Oliver, growing a lil panicked: You want to bake something! Bruce, now severely concerned for his friends ability to read people: Not even close. Oliver: I give up. Bruce: He wants you to read to him. Dick: *nodding* Oliver:... *i hate you, you're lying to me, this is rigged-* yeah okay ~ Hal, on watch with Nightwing: mmmm waffles! Nightwing, tired and nonverbal but amused: *shakes head* Hal, concentrating: mmmm pancakes! Nightwing, yawning: *shakes head* Hal, panicking now because the elevator just opened which means Bruce is about to arrive: um um- oh! Chocolate fudge! Bruce, arrived: White chocolate chip macadamia cookies. Dick, pleased: *nods* Hal, defeated: ... one, please...

Hi!! If you're up to it do you think you could write something about the first time Jason brings his gf to the manor. Like maybe he brings her in but doesn't tell anyone and so everyone is trying to sneak a glimpse of her??
meet the family
jason todd x fem!reader
aka jason has a girlfriend???
warnings: none

The manor sits full as everâa cloud of mild boredom sweeping over the Wayne clan.
Dick sits perched on top of an armchair reading a catalog, Stephanieâs splayed out across the couch, Cass is bundled up in blankets atop the ottoman, and Damian leans up against the center table from the floor.
Itâs a relatively slow afternoon, until Tim comes bursting into the room, out of breath.
âThereâs a girl here!â
Everybody looks at him, disinterest scattered across the room. âThereâs a couple of âem.â Dick says, flipping through the pages of the magazine.
Tim huffs, âNo! In Jasonâs roomâhe has a girl in there!â Eyebrows shoot up at that.
âNow I know youâre lying.â Damian mutters.
Tims head snaps over to Damian. âDude, go see for yourself. I heard her!â
âYou really think Jason would bring a girl here and not even introduce us?â Steph asks, unconvinced.
âYeah.â
âYes.â
âObviously.â
Cassandra nods fervently.
âOkay, yeah. Maybe.â Stephanie mutters. âI bet heâll introduce me before any of you guys, though.â
Dick barks out a laugh, âYouâre nothing short of delusional if you think heâs introducing any of us.â
âWeâll have to take matters into our own hands, then.â Tim says, decidedly.
Damian audibly sighs and rolls his eyes.
âIâm meeting her first.â Steph confirms. âIâll put money down right now.â
âMeet her or see her?â Cass signs.
âSame thing.â Stephanie shrugs.
Dick shoots up from his seat, âFirst person to see her gets to be the ring bearer!â He announces, racing out of the room.
Knock knock knock knock knockâŠ
Knock knock.
It takes a good forty seconds, but Jason opens the door, an annoyed frown already on his face.
Dick gives him his brightest smile. It beams of deceit in Jason's eyes. âHey man. Whatâcha doing?â
He crosses his arms. âWhat do you want?â
Dick tries to peer around Jason into the room, but Jason made a point of barely opening the door and his large frame isnât doing Dick any favors right now.
âJust wanted to say heyâŠYou wanna hang out?â
âNo.â
Dick lingers awkwardly. ââŠAre you sure?â
Jason shuts the door.
A couple minutes later, Tim comes running up the stairs. He opts to skip over the courtesy of knocking and go straight for barging through the door himself. Or he wouldâve, if Jason hadnât seen that coming from a mile away and locked it.
âFuck off, Tim!â Jason calls from inside the room.
âYou lost your right to privacy the second you walked in this house!â He shouts back, hitting his fist against the door.
And Tim swears he can hear a sweet laugh as he trudges away. The authenticity of that claim will be heavily debated downstairs for the next several minutes.
Not even a thirty seconds later, Stephanie comes a knockinâ. Jason opens the door wordlessly, patience clearly dissipating more and more.
âHey, Jason! I canât find my comm, you wouldnât happen to have it, would you?â
His face deadpans. âNo, Steph.â
Stephanie clicks her tongue, âCan you check?â
He stares at her.
âActually youâre right, it would be faster if I did.â Stephanie tries to push past him into the room, but Jason, unsurprisingly, doesnât budge.
âStephanie.â
âI just want to meet her!â She pleads. âI wonât even tell the others, Iâll just say you wouldnât let me in either!â
âBye.â He closes the door.
He doesnât make it all the way back to the bed before the next knock, singular and short.
Jason snaps the door open again, looking down at Damian with a glare.
Never one to waste any time, âIs there a girl in here?â Damian asks, seeming thoroughly disinterested in the answer.
Jason shuts the door in his face.
Several minutes later, another, quieter knock. Jasonâs groan can be heard from outside the room. He pulls open the door once again.
Itâs Cass.
She stares at him.
He stares at her.
âCan I say hi to her?â She signs.
Jason sighs. âIâll pass along the message.â
She smiles and turns back down the hall.
Jason closes and locks the door once again, trudging back over to the bed where you lay. He collapses onto your chest, your arms wrapping around each others bodies immediately.
âCass says hi.â He mumbles, the sound obscured by his face-down position.
âThat message would be a lot more meaningful if I actually knew Cass.â
He groans. âYou donât want to meet them.â
âI do.â You say, running your fingers through his hair. âAnd I think you do too, or you wouldnât have brought me to the house where the world's best detectives live.â
âIâm starting to regret it now.â
âCome on. Please?â You plead.
He picks his head up to look at you.
âAre you sure?â He asks with a grimace.
âAbsolutely.â You say, topping it off with a kiss on his cheek.
He sighs.
Well. Itâs never been within Jasonâs skill set to deny you, anyways.
You descend the stairs hand in hand with Jason, his energy mopier than usual. You can hear a gaggle of voices coming from a room ahead, all talking over one another.
âOkay, Tim, you climb up outside the window andââ
ââItâs your plan, you scale the side of the house.â
Jason drops his head and mutters a âJesus ChristâŠâ as you near the commotion.
You give him a reassuring smile and pat his back as you both move into the doorway.
Everyoneâs heads snap to the doorway, eyes wide and waiting.
Jason takes a deep breath like heâs steeling himself for torture. âGuysâŠThis is my girlfriend.â
âHi.â You smile sweetly, waving to the room.
Thereâs a moment of still silence before the room erupts.
âHold onââ
ââmy god, sheâs so pretty!â
âOh wowââ
âWait, what?â
ââYouâre real?â
ââdidnât place that bet.â
Stephanie comes scurrying up to you and grabs both of your hands in hers. âHi, Iâm Steph!â She says with a beaming smile. âWhatâs your name?â
âIâmââ
But the others are right on her tail, crowding around you.
âWe didnât even know Jason had a girlfriend.â Tim says.
âStill not convinced.â Damian mumbles from the back.
Cass waves and signs something to you.
âShe says weâre really happy to meet you, which we are.â Dick tells you.
Damian moves closer within the huddle and inspects you closely. You have no idea what heâs inspecting you for. You donât need to dwell on it for long because Jason pushes his head away from you with mild force making Damian scowl.
Stephanie chimes in, âDid he bring you here to meet us? The others saidââ
Jason cuts her off, already knowing exactly where that sentence was going. âI brought her here to show her my old room.â
Dick snickers, âOh, is that what you were off doing?â
âWatch it.â Your boyfriend warns.
You nudge him with your elbow, be nice.
Tim moves closer to you, narrowing his eyes. âSo youâve like, spent time with him and everything? And you still want to be around him?â
âOkay and youâre done.â Jason takes your hand and leads you out of the room and back down the hallway.
âNo wait!â
Youâre already out of the room and into another and then another before you can even realize that youâre headed for the front door.
You stop in your tracks, pulling him to a halt as well. âWhat aboutââ
Jason shakes his head. âYou donât want to meet him.â
You lower your chin at him, âJay. Do you want me to meet him?â
Heâs silent and doesnât look like he particularly does.
You sigh, âOkay, do you want him to meet me?â
âIâyeahâŠâ he trails, and you give him your best sweet eyes, the ones that he knows he has no business saying no to. âIâŠokay. Okay.â
He leads you down another hallway, the sounds of his siblings clambering echoing in the distance. You end up in a room that looks like a never used study, where Jason pushes on one of the walls. It slides open with a bit of force from him, revealing a door with a keypad next to it.
He types a series of numbers into it, and opens it up to a narrow passageway that looks remarkably like a cave.
The passageway leads down to a set of stairs, and you can hear the loud sound of water in the distance.
Youâre quite nervous about walking into the Batcave, but you know Jason wouldnât bring you anywhere near it unless he was sure it would be okay. Okay for you that is, more so than his father.
âCareful. Itâs slippery.â Jason holds your hand the whole way down anyway, making sure to linger no more than a step and a half in front of you.
You see Bruce Wayne, sitting at a desk with a large array of computer screens in front of it, and case files scattered all throughout the surface.
He doesnât acknowledge your entrance, though you have to imagine if Jason got his observation skills from anywhere, it would be him.
As you approach, Jason switches your hands so that his left is holding your left. The result has his figure half covering you, you can only assume partially limiting Bruceâs view of you.
âBruce.â
Bruce turns his chair around, regarding Jason with a raised chin. The greeting is somehow even more formal than youâd expected.
âJason.â He readdresses his gaze to you. âWhoâs this?â
Jason has a hell of a feeling that Bruce already knows exactly who you are. Heâs probably known about you since you started dating. He wouldâve had to, to not be pissed as hell that Jason brought a civilian into the cave.
Jason introduces you, his hand reluctantly letting go as you step forward to shake Bruceâs.
Bruce looks surprised, though pleasantly so. He smiles and shakes it kindly.
âItâs nice to finally meet you.â He says.
âYou too, Iâve heard a lot about you.â You say, smiling.
He laughs, âOh, I bet.â Looking to Jason, he says, âI canât say Iâve had the same pleasure, unfortunately.â
Though Jasonâs behind you now, you can practically feel him roll his eyes.
âNo, I canât imagine him sharing anything unprovoked.â Bruce smiles widely at that.
He opens his mouth to say something else, but Jason, whoâs probably on the brink of losing his mind down here, interrupts.
âAlright. Time to go.â Jason says, grabbing your hand again. He doesnât give you much time to protest before heâs guiding you by the waist past him and towards the stairs.
You let him nudge you out and call over your shoulder, âIt was nice meeting you!â
Heâs halfway up the stairs as you exit, only to be stopped by Bruce addressing him again.
âJason.â
Jason stalls his steps, turning around slowly. Youâre out of the cave now, and Jasonâs not excited to be alone with his Dad for even a minute. It doesnât help that he has no idea what heâll say.
âSheâs kind.â Bruce says, simply.
âYes.â
He tilts his head at Jason, observing him. âYou love her?â
Jason looks at the ground. âYes.â
Bruce nods. âGood.â
He returns to his work at the computers wordlessly, and Jason has to take a moment to realign himself before he climbs the rest of the stairs.
Jason doesnât particularly seek his fathers approval, nor does he place any definable value on it. However, hearing him give his own version of his blessing to you struck something inside Jason. Something deep in his chest.
He re-enters the study, finding it empty. He walks out into the hallway, where youâre nowhere to be found. Despite being halfway across the house by this point, he can distinctly hear his siblings chattering in the living room. Chattering. And chattering. And chatteringâŠ
Oh god, you went back to the living room.
As Jason approaches the conversation becomes clearer.
ââlong have you been together, anyways?â
âWellââ
Stephanie gasps suddenly, cutting you off. âOh wait, you have to meet Alfred!â
âOh, weâve already met.â You tell her.
Dickâs head snaps up. âWhat? When?â
Jason enters the room, draping his arm around your shoulder. âAbout six months before you met her.â
A chorus of gasps and shouts ring out.
âWhat?â

Why Tim Drake Sees the Bats as Co-Workers and Not Family (Tim Drake is a Fenton)
aka a follow up to this post, on why tim calls the bats coworkers because I think it's the funniest thing ever
Itâs not that Tim hates the batfam. If anything, he has a grudging respect for them. Theyâve saved his life (and Gothamâs) more times than he can count. But to Tim, that doesnât make them family.
Hereâs the thing: Tim already has a family.
Growing up as a Fenton, Tim knew what family meant. Jazz was the protective big sister who made sure he ate, slept, and survived middle school. Danny was the chaotic younger brother who still cared enough to make sure Tim didnât feel overshadowed. Even his parents, as wildly eccentric as they were, loved him with the kind of unapologetic enthusiasm only Jack and Maddie Fenton could pull off.
Sure, they werenât perfect. They panicked after Dannyâs death-and-rebirth-as-a-ghostly-superhero and left Tim with Aunt Janet Drake, thinking they were protecting him. But they called. They checked in. And once they realized how bad things were with the Drakes, they worked to make amends.
Tim never stopped being a Fenton, no matter how far Gotham took him from Amity Park.
So when Bruce Wayne swept in with promises of training, teamwork, and trust, Tim didnât see a new family. He saw an opportunity.
ââââ
The Batfamily Dynamics:
The Batfamily operates on trauma and duty. Everyone has scars, and everyone has a mission. Thatâs how Bruce connects with peopleâthrough the shared pain of loss and the relentless drive to make Gotham better.
But Timâs mission was never born out of personal tragedy. He didnât lose his parents to crime or see Gotham as something he had to save. He joined because someone had to. Batman was falling apart after Jason died, and Gotham was suffering for it. Tim stepped up because it was the right thing to doânot because he wanted to fill some emotional void.
And thatâs where the disconnect lies.
For Bruce, Dick, Jason, Damian, and even Cass, Barbara and Steph, being part of the bats means finding family again. Itâs their way of healing. But for Tim, it feels like replacing the family he already has.
ââââ
Timâs Perspective:
To Tim, the batfamily is a job. A very dangerous, very complicated job, but a job nonetheless.
Bruce isnât his father. Dick isnât his brother. Jason isnât his big-brother-who-died-and-came-back (that spot was already taken by Danny). Theyâre teammates, coworkers, and maybe even friends. But family? No.
Because family is Jazz sneaking him snacks during his stakeouts. Family is Danny sending sarcastic texts about âghost-proofingâ the Batcave. Family is Jack and Maddie trying (and failing) to make sense of his vigilante life while showing up with enough ectoplasm-based cookies to fuel an army.
Family is messy, chaotic, and full of love.
And while the batfamily might be chaotic, the love feels conditionalâwrapped up in the mission, the masks, and the unspoken rule that Gotham always comes first.
ââââ
Why Tim Doesnât Want a Second Family:
And then thereâs the second layerâthe one Tim doesnât say out loud.
To Tim, having a second family feels like betraying the one he already has. Like admitting that Jazz, Danny, and the parents who tried so hard to fix their mistakes werenât enough. And they are enough.
Tim doesnât need another family. He doesnât want another family. The Fentons are imperfect, but theyâre his. If he started thinking of the batfamily as his own, it would feel like he was erasing the people who already mean everything to him.
It would also make losing them hurt more.
The batfamilyâs world is dangerous. Gotham is dangerous. And if Tim ever let himself think of them as his familyâas more than coworkers or teammatesâit would make every death, every injury, and every failure cut that much deeper.
Timâs already had to grieve once, when Danny died. He barely survived it. He doesnât think he could go through that again, especially not in a world where loss is inevitable. Keeping the bats at armâs length is self-preservation as much as loyalty to the Fentons.
ââââ
Does It Hurt the Bats?
Absolutely.
Dick wants so badly to be Timâs big brother. Jason finds it hilarious, but even he bristles at being labeled a coworker. Damian sees it as a betrayal of loyalty. And Bruceâwell, Bruce doesnât say much, but the tight line of his mouth speaks volumes. Tim doesn't even want to think about how Cass probably already knew, and how much it had still hurt her nonetheless.
But Tim doesnât change his stance. Because at the end of the day, the bats aren't his family. Theyâre his team, his coworkers, and maybe even his friends.
And thatâs enough.

Batboys, who finally got Jason to agree to join them in their Farm Weekends at Kents, and who beforehand warned Kon and Jon that, well, Jason can be a little flippant, but it nothing personal, only to find out that Jason has an awful, tooth-rotting soft spot for Supers.
Kon, sighing: Okay, Jon, remember, this guy is probably like Damian but older and worse... On the other side, you probably would like that, but just in case if he makes you cry, call me. I'll deal with him. Jon, giggling: Don't worry, Kon. Jason, appearing on the doorsteps: Hey, little ones. I wasn't sure what people usually bring as a gift when they are staying at someone, so I bought the bunch of sweets for ya. You don't mind, do you? Kon: L-little ones? Jon: SWEETS!
Batboys are flabbergasted. Jason never acts like this with them, so what the actual fuck. Tim checks on Jason's temperature, like, three times in the row, and gets his hand smacked. Damian stares at Jason, trying to figure out if the Pit madness had returned in a different light. They have no explanation for this.
Kon: Dude, you said that he was meanie. Tim: He IS. Usually. Kon: I don't know, man... He lets Jon sit on his shoulders and piggybacked me this morning. That's not really mean to me. Tim: WELL. HE NEVER DOES THIS WITH US. Kon: Maybe he just doesn't like you that much. Tim: SHUT UP.
Jason, helping to Lois with some chores: So, I need some help in stalls. Pretty boy, come and help me. Kon: (keeps standing cluelessly) Jason: (glares at him, confused) Kon: Oh! I am pretty boy? Jason: Yeah? Chop-chop, come on. Tim, muttering: All I get is Timbers. And Timberline. And Timmers.
Jason, cooing on Jon: Aw-w, here goes my itty bitty tiny- Damian: (growls) Tim: Somebody sedate me. Kon, twirling around in new leather jacket that he stole from Jason: Yeah, we are his new siblings at this point.
Dick: I am. SO. Happy. That. Little. Wing. Finally. Can. Unleash his. True. Cringey brother. Personality. Tim, concerned: Is that kryptonite in your hands? Dick: No. No. Don't get me wrong. I am very happy. I had waited for this day for years, even. Well. I expected ME to be his itty bitty tiny weenie. But. That's fine. I am fine. Damian: I'll fetch father... Tim: Yeah. Please.
