i love this idea that “yeah batfam seems scary to other superheroes at first but theyre all actually nice” but give me more “batfam are almost all regular humans but theyre also complete freaks in different ways”
like yes. justice league and other teams are full of aliens, cyborgs, magic users, fish people, etc, but:
nightwing can bend his completely human body like its laffy taffy
red hood got stabbed and was barely phased in the midst of battle
red robin has been awake longer than any league-er has even attempted and seems fine, along with solving and completely so many cases some heroes think he has a meta human brain
robin has been found completely still for incredible lengths of time and knows things about league members that no one told him until he casually mentions it in conversation
black bat can appear so silently in a room that even those with heightened senses dont notice until they turn around and jump at her standing right in front of them
batman is BATMAN
and its like yeah these teams are glad that gotham vigilantes are there to help but also they are side eye-ing each other because gotham vigilantes are complete and utter freaks in the most HUMAN way to the rest of the superheroes

Hi! I saw your tags on a post talking about car trouble as one of the great good omens fics and I've put it on my tbr! I wasn't really active in the fandom after season 1 so I feel like I missed out on all the great fics. I know about Demonology and Slow Show and I know about others from Aziraphale'sLibrary from their classics tag. But I was wondering what your list would be, your list of what the best and greatest good omens fics are. I'm young, so I have time to read lol
GASPS I HAVE RECS COMING OUT MY EARS @queenofthearchipelago, BUCKLE UP KID💕
this will be a mixture of genres and a lot of them are well known so may well already be on the AL classic lists (but, well, theyre classics for a reason imo) but im just gonna dump them here; these are literally just off the top of my head so won't be very coherent/in order - i'll give the links and ratings, but will leave you to peruse the synopses directly (most will be human AUs, they're my particular favourites), just to save making what will be a huge post even longer!!!
Car Trouble (E)
Petrichor and Parchment (E)
Memory of Eden (M) (and its sequels - imo The heartbreak series of all time. i sob like a baby) (it's written pre-s1 release, so book!omens, but i find it relatively easy to re-imagine if tv!omens is how you imagine them too etc) (no seriously if i ever get any fic professionally bound into a physical book, it's this series)
For Want of a Seed (T) (and also a huge shout out to Right of It also by cassieoh but it's unfinished - ive had it open as a tab in my phone for like a year? in the fervent hope it'll be updated, which fair enough if it isn't!!! but it's beauuuutiful)
Stranger in Paradise (E)
Infernal Bodyguard (M)
Wicked Thing series (E) (and anything by phoenix_soar, frankly. just... damn🫠)
i then also want to shout out a couple of fics from some amazing people on tumblr here (listed in no particular order!) which you may have already seen? but definitely worth mentioning because they're similarly insaneeee:
Shoot to Thrill and Learning on the Job (both E) and tbh anything by @teddybearbutchh, otherworldly affinity for not only writing in general, she's so talented, but her smut is 🫠
How Do We Turn On The Light? (M) by @moonyinpisces is soooo good as a post-s2 fic, she's really captured how i personally imagine aziraphale and crowley to act after the feral domestic, i love her characterisation!
The Loophole (E) by @fellshish is a different take post-s2 but incredibly funny and the apology dance is. life changing
Chemistry (E) by @twilightcitysky, i simply revisit their works time and time again, but this one is a particular favourite!!!
and im sure there are some lovelies that might read this and want to add their recommendations too, or self promote???💕✨ but these are my faves, like i said, right off the top of my head!!!

Some Crowley and Lilia Parallels(?)
?? am i reaching here but doesn't "Crowley searching for a way for Yuu to go home" similar to "Lilia searching for a way for Malleus to hatch"?lol
like they both travel to far away places to search for clues to solve their younglings' problem and both Malleus/Yuu are frustrated whenever they're gone for their travels, Crowley/Lilia can't find a logical explanation why they're taking so long solving their problem too (like how Lilia foolishly trust wishes to make a dragon egg hatch bcs its just impossible to find another dragon and how Crowley seems like he's being lazy because he truly doesn't know how to transport a human back to another world) even though they're the person best suited to solve Malleus/Yuu's problem (crowley being the manager of orientation so he definitely must know(?) where the students came from and lilia being the only person Meleanor told that he'll hatch Malleus) also both of them are quite detached by how much Malleus/Yuu depends on them (by that i mean they leave them alone too much and lack communication with them even though theyre the person who took them under their wing)
They also have a habit of surprising people by falling from the sky (like Crowley's animation during special lessons and how Lilia always appears upside down to scare people)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the difference between their serious and goofy personality is striking (like General Lilia with his mean attitude and deep voice vs Peepaw Lilia and then Prologue Crowley w his ominous vibe and again deeper than usual voice vs Weird Headmage Crowley).
Also idk if this means anything but they're also the characters with the most unique voices in-game, and im unsure about this too but i think their speech patterns both uses old english phrases yet still maintaining a modern pattern (to fit with the youths yk) and they both have "groups of bats/crows" surrounding them and serving as their only motif-- which makes me think both of them have familiars????
also both of them have "minimal magic usage"..... Crowley really doesn't casts any magic atleast in-game (but in other TWST media Crowley casts basic magic) and we know how Lilia is losing his magic because he exhausted it for hatching a dragon egg- Both of their (potential) twisted Disney characters (Bat goon and Diablo/Diaval) have a role in searching for Aurora too (I remember the Bat goon and co. was originally the ones tasked to search for Aurora but he failed so the task was passed to Diablo instead, and Diaval bcs he discovered that King Stefan had a daughter which raged Maleficent in the live action-)
I'm pertaining that if Crowley is Levan,,,, then these similarities would point out to the fact that [Lilia and Levan were always together](than Meleanor did) to the point where they kind of adapted each other's qualities, even if centuries pass-- Also TWST likes mirroring the "knights" of this game (i.e Silver and Sebek, Deuce and Ace), Lilia and Levan were Right and Left Generals (knights), so it kinda explains why they're having similar struggles and similar life pattern(?) (like babysitting an unprecedented child amidst their independent life and being hit with an important problem that is "impossible to solve")
so In conclusion?? did Meleanor cursed her generals to be eternally struggle babysitting troubled children?? XD
totally reaching here-- if Crowley is Levan and his life truly is similar to Lilia's,,, then then does that mean he cut his hair like Lilia's ???? 😳 bcs think about it,,,, all the Briar Valley characters we got has long hair (Meleanor, Baul, and Gen. Lilia) so does that mean if we do get a reveal of Crowley/Levan,,, we'll see Crowley with a longer hair as Levan- ✨🙏
If that's true,,, atleast Levan's hairstyle as Crowley wasn't a chaotic job like Lilia's,,,, LOL it kinda matches their description that Levan is more prim and proper KDHWKHD atleast as Crowley, Levan is actually attempting fashion instead of randomly matching whatever like Lilia 😭 also didn't Crowley had a tangent about his very specific food taste when asking for souvenir(GloMas Event)?? which hits the nail about Lilia's complaint about Meleanor and Levan being picky eaters lol

ok listen i was a ben 10 girlie like anyone else obsessed with cartoons from the 2000s. i fucking LOVE the show let me start with that. ive rewatched the og series and alien force and ultimate alien multiple times. but i have such a hard time creating fanart/fic or even just engaging in general fandom because something doesnt quite click right and ive realized why: its because i cant dehumanize ben
ben turns into so many different aliens that it no longer matters. theyre costumes rather than a complete change with consequences. i would so much rather he get infected with one kind of super turbo powerful alien dna and we see how that changes him, physically and mentally, as he navigates this new world of monsters and fights aliens and eventually has to be made a peacekeeper of the universe all because he accidentally ended up with the omnitrix.
i want to see him go through whats basically alien puberty because hes growing into this and the omnitrix was never supposed to go to a literal child and i want him to lose his humanity as he gets lost in this world and never be able to go back.
i understand why we didnt get it and im not at all mad about it because i know this is a very specific thing i personally like to see. i just dont have the energy to make my own au so im ranting but man. i can dream.
also i want the necrofriggian babies back. i want to see ben raising his kids. i want him to struggle with being a teen dad. give me consequences to the silly events and let him go through the horrors and grow from it

Mother and child... They are nearly as tall as her because of their ears...
Also here's all the Steamworks Clovers, only for Pacifist/Neutral because I. just straight up forgot to work on No Mercy (yes, I know I'm taking a break right now, but this was very much required since otherwise I'd have a Demonic Goober right now (You're red now! That's my attack!))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also I managed to change the palette to let Clover look like that in game, so once I make my Dunes Caves variant then I'll be good to go. Oh and the No Mercy Mask, I need that too. Anyways time to reset so I can get both done at once! Sorry Ceroba, but you will have no chance to save Kanako now (I managed to find a way to keep this save so I can always go back to it, I'll give you this chance again... maybe)
Oh yeah, another thing I might add, but I realized I'm basically gonna have to do a whole story rewrite since Clover's no longer a human, so that'll be fun. On the upside I also had the idea of letting you make the Acid again after you use it on the door (if you try drinking it beforehand, Flowey will just panic kill you instead of reloading like normal, death quote will probably be "Sorry! I panicked! Well, guess I have to reload now."), and it'll be a full heal like the Gunpowder. Clover's two most favoritest things to consume... Let's see if I can actually add it in
YOOO THEYRE PINK NOW!!! dude this palette looks so GOOD i love it so much
ALSO YOURE DOING A REQRITE OF THE STORY TOO!??? WHAT THE HELLL THATS SO MUCH….. ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT AGDHSJ
finally what we wanted. healing acid

Imagining Sebek and any of the first years visiting his hometown and Sebek’s trying to steer them away from anyone jeering at him for being half human. This does not work well, because the first years are all impulsive and protective. This can include Ortho, they can be besties as a treat!
I HAD A SIMILAR CHAT WITH YALL-GOT-ME-FUCKED-UP ABOUT THIS
We decided to let ALL the first years come, as a treat 🫶 I...treated this like an event lawl
It starts off with the first years finally arriving at Sebek's hometown; they enter the town square after getting LOST because SOMEONE (Could be any of the first years ngl HAHA) got distracted and didnt follow Sebek as he went through the forest. This actually causes them to come upon a snake fae, who is...surprisingly nice!!!
Ace wonders out loud why Sebek couldn't be as nice as they are, and as if he was summoned Sebek finally finds them. He scolds them for not following after him, and is shocked to see the snake fae. He's quick to shut down any kind of greeting or nice pleasantries the snake fae wants to have with him and finally leads the first years to the town square.
Grim asks him why they couldnt chat for a little while longer. Sebek tells them theyre running late anyway. The moment they enter the square, all eyes are on Sebek. People are whispering to each other and pointing, but Sebek pays no mind and walks confidently, head held high. Ortho says that it's normal for Sebek to be famous since he's Malleus' retainer. Yuu mutters to themselves if the fame ever got to his head.
They finally arrive home, where we find out that it's only Mama and Papa Zigvolt. Sebek's siblings' breaks weren't able to synchronize with Sebek's, so theyre not allowed to be let off until next week, which is when Sebek and co. will finally leave. Sebek only nods in understanding, asking if they need any help.
Lidaeus says that he needs some ingredients so he can cook, but him and Esme will just get them later once the first years have settled in. Epel says that they can get them instead, as a thanks for letting them stay over. Esme and Lidaeus look worried at that, but before they can say anything Sebek immediately agrees to what Epel has suggested, grabs the money from Lidaeus and leaves with the group.
He assigns a bunch of ingredients to each first year and gives them part of the money. After careful deliberation, Sebek suddenly adds more money from his own wallet. When he walks away to get his ingredients, Jack comments that Sebek added money from his own pocket. Deuce wonders if this is Sebek's way of telling them that they could buy things for themselves, only for Grim to ruin the moment by saying that Sebek was probably flaunting how much money he had. Yuu scolds him and they go off to buy the ingredients needed.
After a few hours, they regroup minus Sebek and it's revealed that ALL of the money went to buying the ingredients. Grim laments the fact that he couldn't buy anything for himself, but Ortho observes that the prices were unusually high to begin with.
Deuce notices that Sebek hasn't come back, and as if on cue, he arrives. He looks frustrated, and Epel asks where his ingredients are. Sebek admits to them that all the shops have ran out of what he needed, and Jack suddenly points out that there was salmon in his part of the list. "That's a shame. Salmon is your favorite, right?" Sebek looks shocked that he remembers such a thing, before huffing and saying that it doesn't matter anymore anyway. They head back.
Lidaeus and Esme welcome them back, before immediately fussing over Sebek. Sebek tells them that he couldn't find some of the things from the list, including the salmon. His parents look oddly uncomfortable when he says it. Lidaeus tries to cheer his wife and son up by saying that he could cook up something else. He tells the first years to relax and make themselves at home. They do just that and go to the guest room, where all of them put down their things and sleeping bags.
They settle in, and Yuu asks the first years if they've ever visited a friends' hometown before. Adeuce have not, Epel asks if biking for 3 hours to go to school in a different town counts, and Jack says there was never any reason for him to visit anyone since his friends were just nearby. Then there's Ortho. Sebek butts into their conversation and tells them if they have any plans for tomorrow. Ace points out that HE should make a basic layout first since he knows more than them.
Sebek looks a bit hesitant before telling the first years to avoid going to the town square as much as possible. They immediately argue over this, since most of the fun activities include going out to the town square. Sebek says they can handle it since he always stayed in the house as a kid (unless he trained with Silver), so why couldn't they? "Uh, because we actually crave human interaction? No wonder you don't have any friends." Ace comments, the other first years scolding him a bit before saying that he has a point. Sebek actually looks a bit hurt by that, before saying that they could go into town for all he'd care.
They eat dinner, Lidaeus is an amazing cook btw, and they go to sleep. When they're in their rooms, Lidaeus and Esme have a conversation in the kitchen about how happy they are that Sebek seems to have found a group of friends. Then, they start worrying about what will happen for the duration of their stay, and hope that they don't get into trouble.
The next day, they group head out to town! Of course, not without Lidaeus reaching out to Yuu and...surprisingly, Ortho! He says that they seem like the more "responsible" ones of the group (Yuu chokes on thin air), and tells them to look out for each other. The town can be a bit...too much. He tells them to look out for SEBEK, most especially. Yuu and Ortho promise that they will.
They go into town, and just basically explore! They do it by themselves (Epel, Deuce, Sebek) or by group (Yuu and Ortho, Grim and Jack and Ace). There are some incidents where people are unusually snappy or impatient with them, or ignore them when they're trying to ask about something they're interested in.
It all comes to a head when some commotion in the market catches Deuce's attention. He approaches, and a small bunch of fae are crowding around this one stall. He realizes that it mainly sells fish, including- you guessed it: salmon. Deuce doesn't understand how Sebek missed this stall when he finally overhears their conversation. It turns out that the fae who owns it wouldn't let Sebek buy anything at all. "The freak even tried to beg for it, saying that his parents would be sad. Let them be sad for all I care! Serves them right for making the likes of him. I don't know why the prince lets him walk around so freely." The surrounding faes laugh and agree. Deuce sees red.
Sebek suddenly hears a crash coming from the market, and immediately rushes over. Deuce was arguing with the stall owner, when he destroyed a part of the stall in his rage. The surrounding faes gang up on him, saying that they should've never let humans into this town, even as visitors. They reiterate, replacing the word "human" with "ironblood" (term from @psycheprincess 🫶). Sebek is LIVID. He shouts at them to stop, before apologizing repeatedly to the stall owner. He even offers him all of his money so he could repair his stall. He drops the money on the not-destroyed part of the stall, when the fae suddenly grabs it and throws it away like nothing.
Yuu and Ortho finally arrive at the scene! Before Deuce can pick a fight once more, the fae says that if Sebek is truly sorry, he should kneel. They expect for Sebek to refuse doing such a thing, and are surprised when he slowly gets to his knees and even bows, forehead touching the ground.
The crowd laugh and jeer, and the owner says that kneeling isn't enough. Nothing Sebek can do will ever be enough. The best he could do was apologize with his life. At this, Deuce has had enough. He prepares to punch the guy square in the face, when Sebek suddenly grabs onto his legs while he's kneeling, stopping him from getting closer. The crowd starts to get bigger, and Yuu realizes that the situation is only going to worsen. They rush over with Ortho and get Deuce and Sebek OUT of there.
They return to the others, who weren't able to catch what the commotion was all about, but were too worried about them taking too long. Yuu tells them that they'll explain when they get back to the house, only for Sebek to explode.
"There will be NO explaining, and there will be NO telling ANYTHING to my parents of what has occurred today!" Sebek pointedly says this to Yuu, Ortho, and Deuce. The latter gets a bit angry, saying that they were only trying to help, only for Sebek to refute this and say that they were just making it worst.
"I've worked for years to be able to walk in this very town without fear! Do not destroy all of my hard work just because of your nonsensical sense of- of JUSTICE! I've lived in this town for all my life, and I've grown accustomed to their jaunts and sneers. Once we get this week done and over with, you'll end up forgetting this ever happened."
Surprise!!! This makes them MORE pissed on his behalf!!! Epel, Ace, Jack, and Grim are left in the dark, so they don't understand half of what's going on, but they do know that the town fucking sucks.
...I'll continue this tom lawl everyone pray this doesnt end up like the vdc encore post 🙏

Ok random things/hc bout the aha!sampo divinity AU i was thinkin of
Aha at some is like. Yknow what fuck it im gonna reincarnate as a human n see whats up w this. So he basically takes bits and pieces, dropped change n spilled drinks on the floors of taverns, scrapes the side of the universe, takes scripts and stories and anything made from human joy n makes a body out of it
He starts off as a kid cuz he saw kids n were like o those guys seem to have fun hell ya.
He makes sampo koski and Becomes Him. Is taken in by the masked fools cuz they are all a lil fucked up so spendin too much time w em or struggling to hide his divinity can scramble their brains only so much...... probably.
Also these ppl who worship him not realizing the scrawny kid they took in is aha????? Thats funny as shit
Sampo grows up normally. Well he kinda got it a bit wrong n he grows at a wayyy slower pace than humans but he jus says he got caught in a temporal anomaly or smthing.
It takes him a long time to really get a hold on his powers/presence/divinity and ends up making people go mad quite often. Sometimes on purpose.
The masked fools send him to planets, give him scripts and have him portray characters and sow chaos. He bends reality a bit sometimes to make the scripts more fun. He creates a major presence on the masked fools and becomes infamous in some planets n ships thay marginally survived him
(Some of the things he does cant be attributed to him and it puzzles people. Theres no way a mere human could change the colours of stars or rearrange galaxies n move planets a lil to the left, right? He makes entire waterbodies taste like beer and makes trees bleed when cut and flips mountains upside down)
The role he's given in Jarilo is his longest one yet. Usually he's just like a force of nature running through but this time he becomes a Person on this planet
He meets the underworld ppl and they all have different reactions to his divinity the longer he's around them:
Natasha is fairly sensitive to his power but it doesnt really overwhelm her. She hears childrens laughter when hes around and the air feels warm like sunlight that Belobog hasnt experienced since the eternal freeze and every time he brings her medicine or carries out of her requests she tastes bubblegum on her tongue. She never says anything but sometimes she Stares n it makes sampo squirm
Oleg tenses every time sampo shows up but eventually forces himself to relax. But he always has to be aware of sampo at all times, can't ever turn his back to sampo or be unarmed around him. He has no clue why and thinks theres something wrong with him and its his problem not sampos. But sometimes when he looks at sampo he can almost swear he sees something shift over his skin
Seele doesnt notice anything for a long time. She has to be around sampo for hours sometimes days without break. But eventually she just becomes irrationally angry with him. Everything sampo does grates on her brain and makes her want to attack him. She doesnt think anything of it and just assumes its because sampo is annoying.
Luka is one of the least sensitive to divinity. Any anxiety or unease he feels around sampo he just attributes to sampo being a shady guy. Sometimes sampo's laughter and his voice feels heavy in his skull though
Children in general are highly sensitive and resilient to the divine: sampo doesnt know why. Maybe because theyre brains are still developing? Because they arent stuck in their own ideas of reality n rationality like adults? Regardless Hook KNOWS sampo isnt normal. She doesnt question it, she just knows sampo makes things fun.
He finds a lot of responses with those in the underworld: some want to worship him, others want him dead, some cant look at him without feeling sick. For some reason the overworlders tend to find him more unsettling and disconcerting. Qlipoth probably has nothing to do with it but Sampo blames qlipoth

oh right i meant to elaborate on this
so, for those who might not know, the basis of plato's philosophy is that what we perceive as reality isnt whats Actually real. the real world is the world of ideas, physically unreachable from ours.
an idea is essentially a very general concept of something, and everything in our world tries to imitate ideas, which is how we get physical objects. for example, physical objects would be Specific kinds of tree, or individual ones, while the idea would just be A Tree. ideas are eternal, perfect, undefined and unchanging, which is why physical objects fail in their imitation of them- theyre too individually distinct.
and, you know how misteln is canonically described as an Idea? yeah! shes, or rather she was, the idea of a schariac.
i say she was, because [at least in my opinion] misteln's character arc is actually about ceasing to be an idea: because look. right after her "birth", she really Was the model of a schariac- selfless, kind, and always trying her best to save everyone [even if, due to unique nature of her existence, she wass unable to do so]. she didnt even have a first name; "schariac" was all there was to her.
but she met alexandra, and was given a name; she joined the world serpent, and was given another. she developed herself as a new person, and during this period she didnt actually associate herself with her last name, instead going only by "hare". and undeniably, she became. Really Weird. just a deeply bizarre person. but thats the point: shes a PERSON, even if she can never quite understand humanity. but shes still an individual, with her own history, her own personality and mannerisms and views on life. and especially after moon arc, when shes no longer bound to her duty as a part of world serpent, id say it wouldnt be accurate to call her an Idea in the truest sense of the world, not anymore.

ouuu normal ishimondo thoughts this morning since I'm pondering the pre-killing game/non-despair early dynamic. I think that in the first year or so, Mondo was generally avoided by virtually the entire class for like. One of two reasons. Either they were scared of him, they just disliked him and kept their distance as a result, or a combination of both. NOBODY made much effort to hold a conversation with this guy if it wasn't out of fear.... Except for Kiyotaka. I think that Kiyotaka, Upon walking into the room for the first time and seeing Mondo decided on the spot that he DID NOT LIKE HIM. And not only does he NOT LIKE HIM. but he is going to make SURE that he KNOWS that he DOES NOT LIKE HIM. He actively hates Mondo for the first while and he is incredibly vocal about it. Along with this, he will back down at NOTHING. Mondo can't intimidate him away. It's like impossible, and Mondo isn't used to like. Normal people being like this. The only people who get close to this are like, rival gang members but even they're like. punch first, ask questions later. Kiyotaka on the other hand. Is a fucking brick wall given human shape. And fuck. fuck. Mondo eats it the fuck up actually. This is where the ice breaks. This is the first admission. He wouldn't ever admit it like ever. But he loves that somebody is willing to ARGUE with him. He loves that somebody is willing to actually CHALLENGE him as if he were on the same LEVEL. It's GREAT. The arguments get more fun. it gets almost playful even like its not nearly as serious anymore. Almost. THEN they have the funny endurance test because fuck. that sounds like fun. this is FUN to them now. They get all cringe and woozy and theyre like. "ok um I. Don't actually hate you anymore. do you wanna call it here? You wanna get some lunch?" and when they go out they are both. the QUIETEST they have EVER been around eachother. It is so awkward its comical. The next day at school they just say hi to eachother like once and everyone in the room is like. "HUH????? THEY'RE NOT BEING ANNOYING????" And because the debate topic was always like. "I hate you here's why", they no longer know what to talk about because they??? Don't hate eachother anymore??? Except then they remember that they've kept consistently skipping the part about socialization where they like, tell the other a bit about themselves and they're like "oh right" and they end up having like. the most first interaction sounding conversation in the UNIVERSE that EVENTUALLY leads to them being more open. This is around when Mondo learns about Toranosuke and its like. oh. (sims +friendship icon appears next to them both). THEN they start to get all brodude with eachother, albeit a bit less intense at first. from there it's a steady climb that gets progressively fruitier with every step. Heart.

Arrax here: image Vox is doing another broadcast about Alastor or the hotel or something, when another Overlord breaks in and just out and out attacks him--because the other Overlord is in love with Alastor. All the Cannibals in Cannibal town and Rosie immediately shake their heads because they know this other overlord is a dead demon walking--Vox usually let's his challengers live after they've signed their souls over to him, no matter how badly they've wounded him....but Alastor definitely would have seen this. And attacking Al's muse, his everything because you think you love Al? Yeah, even if Vox owns you...it doesn't mean shit. You're a threat to his muse and you must be dealt with. Alastor can easily find Vox a better soul to have as an underling.
you know another anon was worried about you giving me painful ideas? yeah they were right
i think, honestly in theory, this sort of situation could be very comedic if in the hands of the right person. i however am the completely wrong person if you were searching for anything other than the worst possible writing ever. (putting a readmore because i cant fucking control myself when i get rambling LMAO)
picture this: vox is on tv for one of his usual broadcast segments, taking an interview about his involvement with the radio demon/dissolvement of their rivalry and the hazbin hotel or something. alastor is "begrudgingly" sitting with the rest because admit it or not, he does still have a lingering fondness for the "noisy picture box" demon and, well, that *is* the hotel he's running being promoted, so might as well... (he's mostly just here to stare at the other's face, and husk knows this but he's sworn to silence and niffty is. Niffty. so. whatever)
anyway, blah blah blah they cut to a segment and go off for intermission, but things start to drag on longer than they should. the ad theyre running for intermission stops, but the screen still stays black until it eventually flashes to an error. at this point, the hotel cast is like 'uhhh did something fuck up on set' but theyre not worried about anything until the lights start to flicker, and one by one, every streetlight begins to shut down and fizz out before the electricity cuts off completely, the constant white noise of tv static cutting out alongside it and the buzz of vox's own frequency in alastor's chest going flat with the rest of his power.
before anyone even realizes al is to his feet and out the door, shadows wrapping around his form and carrying him halfway across pentagram city to the vee's tower. when he enters the studio, it's already been trashed to hell and back, with black and red bloodstains from both the hellborn employees and whatever sinners were present at the time of the altercation staining the walls. there are bodies, of course, but none of them are important to him because none of them are *vox*. and he doesn't know where the hell the other is except the fact that he might be hurt. and that's- well, that's unacceptable. if anyone was going to kill vox, it would be him, with the other's blood on his claws and flesh in his mouth and the beating, pumping heart in his chest in his hands-
anyway. he needs to find him. so in classic radio demon fashion, alastor sweeps in and out of shadows and terrorizes those employees not already dead or dying, until he finally reaches-
"vox."
the overlord is standing in the middle of an empty room, completely devoid of any furniture or lighting. it's dark, and there are no windows. at the sound of alastor's voice, he turns to face him slowly. when he finally looks over, alastor almost wants to retch at the sight before him. the others screen is so cracked he looks like a stained glass window, and a seemingly endless stream of blood pours out from the giant gaping hole in the middle of his tv head. what looks like it could be mistaken for a human eye peers out at him before it softens, and a humming static fills the room as vox approaches him slowly, like *alastor* was the wounded prey and not the predator.
when vox reaches him- well, alastor isn't quite sure what the other was going to do anyway, but he pulls the other overlord forward and holds him up by his shoulders, gently tilting the other's screen up to look at him.
"who did this to you?"
it doesnt matter if vox cant reply right now. alastor will find out soon enough, and he'll make sure that whatever fool decided to lay a hand on his muse would suffer for it hundredfold.
(when he finds out that it was because of the other's foolish love for him, alastor not only proceeds to mock the other overlord on a live broadcast but literally proposes to vox on the spot just out of sheer pettiness)

okay big stray spoilers but
ive been thinking about it and actually i love how stray implies that all the robots were humans but just Forgot, but never actually states it outright. like once b-12 remembers that they were actually human and not an ai, i immediately jumped to ‘oh my god theyre ALL humans’ because of course, it makes so much sense! of course they keep the restaurants and bars running even though they can no longer eat or drink! of course they still go to barber shops even though they no longer have hair! of course they still wear clothing even though they cant feel temperatures and have no need for modesty! of course they have families and children, of course they still care for plants even if they no longer need them! these are people!!! theyre doing people things!!!! and i spent the rest of the game waiting for that reveal to drop... but it never does.
b-12 dies still thinking theyre the last human, that all the other humans died. and maybe theyre right! but they were also right when they decided it didnt matter. it doesnt matter if none of the robots remember being human. it doesnt matter if they were never human to begin with, if theyre all just ai that learned from the humans and adopted their ways. it doesnt matter because theyre people now. they became people, and even though the humans destroyed the surface world and created an oppressive police state and invented a deadly bacteria that almost exclusively killed the poor, the robots still kept their ways of life out of pure love for what the humans once had been.
and then so many of them try so hard and are willing to sacrifice so much to help a single cat get back home. their history and their form just dont matter. the robots are the people, either way.

Inevitable Gerudo Headcanon Posting
i spend too much time thinking about the gerudo like genuinely theyre one of my favorite recurring tribes in the zelda series, which as we all know is a form of suffering because god forbid nintendo stop relying on racist tropes and caricatures.
keeping in line with this nintendos portrayal of the gerudo tends to either be 1) why theyre bad, and/or 2) how a culture of all women has kids. like thats an oversimplification of ALLL the problems present in the gerudos portrayal but thats a different post for another time. in general i bring this up because it means, for me as well as any others interested and invested un the gerudo, that there is a kind of generalized lack of pre botw characterization or cultural concepts to work with, esp when compared to the other tribes of hyrule. (looks pointedly at how theres no gerudo in the gerudo desert but there is a prison slash execution site where their king was held. LOOKS AT WHO SURVIVED THE PROLOGUE CUTSCENE IN WINDWAKER)
ANYWAYS. botw was really fun because, while it had plenty of its own issues with the gerudo, they were at least non hostile! so with that in mind, the headcanons and worldbuilding i write primarily apply to the wilds era gerudo, which spans the timeframe between ganondorfs reign as king to totk (suspending disbelief because that timeframe is. by all accounts. longer than recorded human history. friendly reminder ganondorf does All That before we even get sheikah wifi towers. christ.)
anyways. second verse same as the first, core assumptions and then a readmore
Some core assumptions:
The BotW branch of the timeline is chronologically set AFTER the previous timeline, ie the events of ToTKs ancient past is set AFTER the last event of the Hyrule Historia timeline. essentially they all come back together to form one line that makes up ToTKs ancient era
The biggest effect on Hyrules topography was the flooding in Wind Waker. after an unknown point, the flooding ocean receded leaving behind the ruins of ancient Hyrule. at some point after that, the zonai settled parts of it and made the buildings wed see as ruins by the time of BotW. slowly the various tribes of hyrule immigrated back
all peoples within the setting of hyrule are loosely grouped into categories called tribes. in this sense, tribe refers a collection of peoples with shared traits, without anything concretely set in stone (for example, hyrule includes the tribe of hylians, the tribe of gorons, the tribe of koroks, etc etc). the main six who show up repeatedly can be considered the sage tribes (gerudo, hylian, sheikah, rito, goron, zora), and the various types of enemies can be considered the monster tribes (the blin tribe of bokoblin, moblin, bulblin, etc)
so. starting at the beginning. near entirely headcanons
in ocarina of time, we see the spirit temple, where Nabooru awakens as a sage. this temple features a MASSIVE statue of a woman adorned with a snake and its primary mechanic centers around mirrors and reflected light. while the mirrors return, we dont really get that same kind of implied spiritual/religious focus again. so instead im going to make a mountain out of a molehill and position her as the primary spiritual figure here. im running low on name ideas tho so suggestions are much appreciated. for right now ill refer to her as the serpent goddess
the gerudo are culturally a people of function over form, practicality over whimsy, but when circumstances allow for it, are drawn like any other to arts and music and decoration. they have a long history of bloody, brutal battle, and while the war has long since ended, its kings buried and its warriors naught but ghosts, the desert remembers. its sands haunted by the bloodstains of conflict past, and echoes of ancient tragedies. the gerudo here in the era of wilds may have lost their records of their ancient history of conflict, but some aspects, preserved by the sands, have managed to survive the onslaught of time
surviving all this time is the ancient creation myth of the gerudo people. as legend tells it, long ago in the time before myth, there existed a goddess whos power was transformation. she was possessed of two forms, one a proud humanoid figure, the other a striking serpentine form twisting through the heavens with ease, her scales glittering with mirror sheen. to shift from serpent to human, she would shed her skin, and grow it back again to embrace her serpentine form anew
seven times she shed her skin, and from these shed skins rose the first gerudo, each embodying a key aspect of their sacred mother. the serpent goddess's scales are each a nascent soul of a gerudo, and when those scales are shed and fall to the land below, a new gerudo is born. likewise, when a gerudo dies, their soul returns to the scales of the serpent goddess, to await until they would descend again and reincarnate once more. the seven daughters of the serpent goddess led these gerudo as their guardians, leaders, and protectors. but, away from the seven heroines and their new people, the goddess shed her skin an eighth time. this daughter was born alone, and while her sisters embodies the strengths of spirit, flight, endurance, knowledge, motion, skill, and gentleness, the eighth was born with insatiable wanderlust. learning of this, the seven sisters cursed her name for leaving them and their people behind, and despite their shared ancestry, the eighth was forbidden to be spoken of. this suited her just fine, and the eighth was free to walk the land and learn all of its hidden paths
in time, war came to the gerudo, as it often does. though they were united, and strong, they were a small collection of people, and thus despite their proficiency were threatened nonetheless. it became clear at last that they could not stand and fight, and that to survive, they could not remain in place for long. but the enemy had pushed them deep into their home, and knew all the paths back. as hope seemed lost, as if summoned by call, the eighth sister at last wandered home. calling her seven sisters to her, she proclaimed that every hidden step was known to her, and while she lacked the power to guide them on her own, together they would escape unseen into the night, their enemy none the wiser. thus, skillfully guiding the skills of her sisters, the eighth heroine led the gerudo into safety, and the seven were humbled from their pettiness. seeking to apologize to the sister they had banished and forgotten, the seven sought to make amends, but the eighth was content merely to have a place of remembrance among them. to wander is not a sin, as long as one remembers where their home lies.
the eight heroines have long since passed and returned to their mothers scales, but the virtues they embody are cherished by the gerudo family they left behind, seeking to hold their memory close even as the years wear on
to the gerudo was bestowed the blessing of the element of Spirit, embodied by their iron wills and manifesting as crackling lightning. this spirit lightning is the gerudo's will made tangible, arcing out towards their target as an extension of their focus and sheer determination. to a gerudo, nothing is impossible until one has devoted themselves entirely to it, giving it their all, and only then may it be conceded
a long history of persecution has resulted in the gerudo being increasingly insular and isolationist. their admiration of the art of combat and how it can bring forth an individuals talents, achieving a perfect harmony between body and will as the weapon became an extension of ones limbs, was often perceived as aggression by outsiders, who would react as if to defend their own interests. the gerudo have suffered much at the hands of hyrule at large, and have pulled further and further away.
as the gerudo pulled away from hyrule, and hyrule from them, they devoted most of their attention to themselves. cooperation amongst themselves is seen as paramount to their survival, and familial affection often extends well past ones blood relations.
the gerudo value family, and loyalty, alongside independence and cooperation. everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their goals, but if someone is struggling, it is the responsibility of everyone to help. children are raised by as many people as are available, and even in the times of monarchy, the palace was less a formal dwelling place belonging to the gerudo ruler and more a public forum that the ruler simply happened to live in
most of the palaces amenities are fully public, a tradition that has carried on to riju's time. meals are communal and the kitchens open to all, and the palace has no strictly dedicated servants, merely a collection of amenities the gerudo people are free to use at will and often do so together. what this means is that there is no servant, for example, dedicated to preparing riju's meals but instead a collection of people willing to cook and willing to eat making meals riju partakes in, and this applies to most other menial tasks as well. the throne room is where the leader of the gerudo engages in their job as public servant, attending to the needs of the gerudo at large and responding to crises as they arise.
as nintendo is keen to point out, the gerudo are a people that are predominantly "all women", and thus spends plenty of time going over dialogue wherein people wonder how they have children and including a plethora of sidequests in the wilds era about acquiring partners. im ignoring all of that and instead going by lizard rules, in part because here theyre descended from a serpent dragon goddess, wherein a population of all female lizards were able to successfully maintain a stable population and have children without major issue. gerudo like ganondorf are the equivalent of a rare genetic mutation that flips some other genes on and has a different result, that really doesnt affect anything besides this one kid and doesnt have any major effects or differences in their life. two gerudo are perfectly capable of having kids together, having relationships as usual, and on the topic of "how do the gerudo have kids", thats all i really feel like exploring that topic
with an insular, isolationist culture that appeared for all intents and purposes to be all women, the gerudo were often a source of major culture shock when interacting with the other tribes of hyrule, most notably hylians
bonus hylian lore: hylians experience an even greater lack of sexual dimorphism than irl humans do, so gender presentation is near exclusively presentation based, with a heavy emphasis on clothing. showing skin is considered an act of emotional intimacy, and most hylians opt to cover as much as they can. the intensity of presentation scales upwards with their role in society, with the royal family having the most extreme form of gender presentation. gender is presented through clothing style and hair length, with ornamentation, jewelry, and piercings serving as a kind of intensifier, and hylian culture at large tends to operate on a sliding scale of masculine to feminine, with the middle androgynous zone being a weird gender spot for them
the gerudo, by contrast, never really developed a concept of masculinity versus femininity. gender pronouns in gerudo are based on personal proximity, occupation in society, and familiarity. these barely translate at all into hyrulean.
as the gerudo, by circumstance or by choice, interacted with hylians and the tribes of hyrule more and more often, some kind of understanding had to be reached with regards to translation. as relations were already terse, making an attempt to fully translate the gerudos understanding of gender to your average hylian was considered a fools errand, and thus translation was done in broad strokes, giving hylians the simplest root form of gender pronouns (and none of the increasingly specific declensions). loosely, the term vai is closer in concept to "us" and voe is closer to "not us" "foreigner" "outsider", and has taken on a connotation of " forbidden" or "taboo" (leading to wilds era gerudo secret clubs often imploying translatable Adult Puns regarding their catering to voe and the overall titillating atmosphere they tend to put on for customers). with regards to hylians, the feminine princesses and queens had more in common with the gerudo and were thus "vai", but the masculine kings and soldiers, who were often the main figures pushing aggressive efforts into conquering or otherwise absorbing the gerudo into hyrule, were "voe". this was then distributed in various guides to understanding the gerudo language as " vai" meaning "woman" and "voe" meaning man
gerudo town, as the capital of their people and general hub, has a law banning the entrance of voe. at the time if its writing, this was a fairly obvious law, because most "people who are forbidden" are forbidden from entering. as time has passed, hostilities cooled, and relations warmed, this law has been the subject of a long struggle of interpretation. it doesnt translate well into nearly any other language, and thus who counts as "voe" and "vai" is subject to endless debate. the differences in gender perception are most clearly on display with the admittance of the gorons. one might assume that the gorons, being a monogendered people who typically use masculine terms of identity and endearment in hyrulean, to thus qualify as voe, but the gorons cooperative nature, near uniform monogendered culture, and emphasis on hard work and independence has enough in common with your average gerudo that considering them as vai is a no brainer
ganondorf thus is also, clearly, considered vai. the specific pronouns he uses in his native gerudo include declensions regarding his position as royalty (one that has since gone out of use and is fairly archaic now, only really being used as a kind of neo-pronoun by current era gerudo as a rebellious self identification thing), his relation as the only child of koume and kotake, and are conjugated based on relation between the speaker and him. in the ancient era, calling ganondorf voe would be so confusing as to not even read as an insult. if one really wanted to refer to ganondorf with a tone of insult, theyd substitute the declension of familiarity with one used for strangers
ganondorf achieved his position as king the old fashioned way: a gift from his moms. ancient era gerudo practiced typical monarchy with a line of succession, and koume and kotake named him as the next royal of the gerudo as their heir. the hyruleans, seeing a masculine gerudo of royal birth, referred to him as "king", and correcting a culture of people he had little respect for was just a waste of ganondorfs time. after ganondorfs sealing, the gerudo changed to the current system of chiefs, wherein the current chief names a successor, or by default passes it onto their living heir. a system is in place to democratically install a new chief if the current one passes without naming a child their heir, or naming a successor in their place, a system drafted and then used in ganondorfs absence. riju thus inherited the mantle from her mother, but could opt instead to force a vote, or have such a vote forced on her due to her age, leading to much of her insecurity seen in BotW. this system has proven to be relatively stable, especially coupled with the continued tradition of keeping the palace an open public forum
the first chief of the gerudo was nabooru, advised by the sage of lightning we see in totk, following ganondorfs sealing
the gerudo are very familiar with the souls of the dead. poes, souls lost and aimless, wander the desert after millennia of bloodshed. thus their funerary customs have persisted, even as the folklore behind them fades in and out of memory.
a person perceives reality through their body. they know the sky is above them both by craning their neck up, and by the sensation of ground beneath them. in death, one is bodiless, and sensation becomes a confusing, directionless onslaught. it is so easy for a spirit to become lost, unable to orient themselves. the gerudos funerary rites seeks to aid these souls in their journey towards returning to the serpent goddess, as without guidance they are liable to become poes. the body after death is merely an empty receptacle, and on a practical level is a potential draw for dangerous desert scavengers seeking an easy meal. the shifting sands and hard soil makes burial difficult to impossible, so instead the gerudo burn their dead. smoke is ephemeral and thus able to be seen by spirits, and even as the wind rushes, smoke will still travel upwards towards the heavens. a spirit will linger by its body for a time, and thus cremation helps provide guidance to the dead. unable to feel the earth beneath them, the dead can follow the trails of smoke to orient themselves upwards, and dispel lingering confusion
as the body is burned both to guide the departed's soul and to ward away scavengers, the gerudo inter their belongings into gravesites instead, usually one or a small collection of items that the deceased valued or were considered emblematic of them. having a proud history of warriors, many gerudo consider their weapons extensions of themselves, and thus many gravesites will consist of a single weapon.
the sage of lightnings temple served as the primary gravesite for many gerudo, and in its heyday was decorated with love and care as befitting its role. torches burned bright in its sconces and the walls painted with care in massive sweeping murals. here in the temple, a foreigners idea of the gerudo as austere and practical would fall away, as the halls shone with warmth and color, taken from their desert home
lost souls that become poes often end up becoming consumed by their regrets and despair at their inability to find their way back to reincarnation through the serpent goddess's scales, and from there turn to rage and aggression. the sunlight glinting off of the goddess's mirror scales will blind and disorient the dead who have lost their way, as they try in vain to rely on their half forgotten senses, and thus poes eschew the day in favor of the cover of night. though incorporeal, poes move as fast as the desert winds, and try all they can to cause mischief and havoc. usually the end result of their shenanigans is light injuries and scratches, but it isn't uncommon for a waylaid traveller or adrenaline seeking youngster to suffer fatal consequences. despite this, poe hunting tends to be the go-to act of rebellion for antsy teenagers with a taste for danger. in general, one of the only things fast enough to strike a poe is a fired arrow
as the sands grew and the desert expanded, it grew more and more difficult for the steeds of the gerudo to gallop across the dunes, and they were driven further and further back until the gerudo phased out their horseback traditions entirely
and as an AU specific trivia tidbit
after ganondorf's sealing, nabooru grieved the loss of her childhood friend by constructing a dedicated tomb to house ganondorf's gravesite. even though he wouldn't die, nabooru would never live to see him again, and in traditional gerudo fashion, his gravesite is marked by his signature trident, further imbued by nabooru's blessing of lighting (in a similar fashion to urbosa's fury, despite urbosa not being a sage).

It’s just irksome when I see some takes get completely misunderstood
• ‘the IC is 500 so? nesta is 25 she’s an adult’- the point is that the 500 year olds are living and have lived with their trauma for much longer and should have more knowledge on these things. Not only because of that but because as leaders I would think they would know how to handle these things in regards to people living in their court but as the CoN members indicate, they don’t. But Mor said Nesta would ‘thrive’ so that makes it totally okay. Wtf??
• ‘Pointing fingers at Rhys every time Nesta does something bad is all they do’- acting like stanning Feyr.e and tolerate Rhys by extension is fine but proceeding to dedicate almost every other post to go on and on dissing Nesta is just plain shallow and hypocritical. They can dislike Nesta all they want but if they can’t keep the same energy towards other characters in the name of Fey.re mistreatment then I 🙃 can’t take them seriously. But it’s okay I get theyre just a victims of the narrative
• ‘Rhys doesn’t even want to be high king how is everyone so mad at him’- what Rhys wants or not isn’t the problem it’s this agenda that keeps getting shoved about how Rhys is so good. Which might well end up happening because of it. And that’s the problem. Because why try to make him morally grey then go on and on about how amazing and kind and ✨hurt✨ and ✨misunderstood✨ he is.
• ‘People believe head canons are canon/Interpretation aren’t canon’- as maybe it’s been noted by now in this rant canon is the problem. If someone has emotions for certain characters wether good or bad all of them are valid because like it’s literally a human right to express yourself. The unpopular part of our interpretation is that it seems sjm specifically fashioned her work so specific characters can be hated then ‘redeemed’ and because of this ended up having half of us see her mcs are actually quite crappy and her side ones don’t align with half the punishments they keep getting, which I mean— if seeing those interpretations bothers someone I recommend just blocking or filtering a tag it’s actually quite simple. Which takes me to my next point though
• ‘Just because Nesta has a reason to be bitchy doesn’t make it right/Nesta’s wrongs keep getting compared to others’- it’s ironic to hear this because this logic is exactly why I dislike the IC. The ‘comparisons’ are moments of examples. Take the HoW Elain visit scene. She happily comes by to see Nesta to explain things which is really nice of her right? despite not being present to show this support during Nesta’s intervention, but wait, Nesta walked by her once in the street without acknowledging her while she was going through depression but remember thats no excuse for Nesta to do this, which right, but So Why doesn’t the same logic apply here to Elain though? The intervention was done abrasively as it was but because they love her despite her being a bitch and so Nesta deserves this mistreatment in the name of tough love! What happened to the reason isn’t excuse logic? Then word for word proceeds to tell her not to act so miserable. People are set up to believe this idea through the entire series that Nesta is cruel and more so in acosf because Nesta says this herself and oh good lord 🙄 let’s only remember the parts where it was super evil of Nesta to blame Elain about their dead father let’s completely forget the completely offhand comment Elain had just made and not just in the visit but the complete disregard of her during the intervention. And remember reason doesn’t equal excuse. But apparently that logic only applies to Nesta. Then to proceed to say Nesta isnt even ‘trying’ and still see Nesta as the only mean one here blows my mind. Let me make sure it’s understood— this is not a comparison about Elain vs Nesta it’s the fact Nesta is portrayed as cruel and any trauma or reason behind her actions are still inexcusable and also proceed to make any mistreatment of her warranted. Where is the reason isn’t excuse logic for her?! Yet she keeps getting this trauma invalidation by the fandom left and right?? And it’s justified to mistreat her?? How this narrative can go on and on for the whole book and readers actually believe it is beyond me.
Just to name a few.
Nesta’s story was falsely advertised as a healing journey when really what we kept getting was a character that kept getting exploited over and over. The character trait that set her aside and made her so beloved to us fans was handled awfully and perhaps readers that don’t understand Nesta will never understand.
And I’m tagging every anti tag so if you come across this and feel offended then maybe you should learn to filter

back in the early 20-teens i watched this delightful movie, Shelter (2007) which is a gay surfing romance which is very cute and heartwrenching and concludes with our protag and his new boyfriend essentially adopting protags nephew. first of all this post is just a plug to get you to go watch Shelter (2007) because its very sweet and i love it very much. but actually this post is about headcanons.
see, i really quite liked this movie, but this was before i got into fandom, so the sum total of my engagement (other than watching the movie over and over again) was looking up online reviews, and one in particular stuck with me.
the argument this reviewer (anonymous rando on imdb or similar site) made was that actually, the happily ever after depicted in the movie was doomed. first of all, the romance was a rebound relationship. plus the whole adoption of the five year old nephew. protags sister would eventually want her son back! their cute little family would be broken! and thats not to mention the stress that the relationship was financially unequal.
now, in hindsight, most of the analysis in this review was probably bad faith, thinly veiled homophobia. but what stuck with me was the way this person phrased these things as absolute proof. Rebound + Wayward Sister + Money = Inevitable Breakup. as if people can really be broken down into some linear equation with only one possible outcome. because no rebound relationship has ever lasted, because no family has ever survived complicated questions of custody, because money always destroys relationships.
its pretty obvious, from a distance, to see they were cherry-picking all the details that supported their foregone conclusion. i could cherry-pick my own to counter them, but thats not even the point i want to make.
what i drew from this review, and reflecting on it, was how supremely arrogant it was to assume you could predict someones future based on only a handful of data points. a good fictional character, like a real person, is a complex, multi-faceted creation containing contradictions and moods and conflicts that are constantly in flux. its why in fandom you get ongoing arguments about what one would consider the very base characteristics of a character. its why you can have long and involved conversations about whether an action was in-character or not, and whether thats even a relevant question. what trait is actually immutable? what characteristic cannot be violated, if the situation is right?
i think most people understand this implicitly, if not consciously, and engage with headcanons in this way. 'hey' the fan says, 'if i take these datapoints from canon, i can point in this direction! isnt that a cool idea?' and the rest of us may nod or shake our heads, but we understand that there are probably multiple plausible paths. we can comment on whether a particular path is more or less plausible, but its exceedingly rare, and in my personal experience often pretty contrived, to find a question that has only one conclusive answer.
people are weird. a good fictional character should have enough meat on their bones that one should be able to build plausible and contradictory headcanons. (and thats not even to speak of headcanons which are of other types, the 'wouldnt it be fun if' or the 'what if important thing was different' or the many other categories of headcanon).
which is why its always jarring to see people take one data point from canon and extrapolate a huge, inevitable conclusion and then, rather than happily sitting on their little universe like one might expect, instead defending to the death that they must be correct. this is no longer a game to them. they are willing to throw down about it without a hint of irony or comedy to temper their words. and once theyre taking it too seriously i feel i am allowed to criticise their logical processes and point out the fallacies of judgement. the base assumption that humans are comprehensible and predictable beings. the utter and profound lack of real data.
in summary, my response is:

August 27, 1959
It had been almost a month since you agreed to become his familiar. At first you didn’t really understand what that meant. After a few days, the vampire thing didn’t bother you that much anymore, you knew how he felt towards you irregardless if you were human and he wasn’t. but you missed your best friend and your kids. Rosalinda had been your best friend since you moved to Paris almost exactly two years ago, you had been inseparable and not knowing what happened to her was tearing you up inside, almost as much as not seeing your kids for a month. Elvis had said he would try to bring them to you, and you trusted him, but you were getting impatient.
August 30, 1959
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEYRE GONE?” you screeched at Elvis, looking around you see a porcelain book end on the top of the small bookshelf beside you. In your rage you throw it at his head, shattering into pieces as it hits the wall behind him. You had been patiently waiting for Elvis to find your children, and apparently now he’s telling you that your son was taken into custody on child abandonment charges and your daughter had moved out of your house and he was unable to locate her. Your son would be taken back to America to his father, your stomach churned at the thought. “DO YOU KNOW HOW FUCKING HARD I WORKED TO MAKE SURE MY CHILDREN NEVER HAD TO SEE OR HEAR FROM THAT MAN AGAIN? AND BECAUSE OF YOU ALL THAT HARD WORK IS UNDONE, MY BABY IS NOT SAFE WITH HIS FATHER. YOU GET HIM BACK. YOU UNDERSTAND?” you throw a book at his head now, this time he’s not as fast and the spine of the rather large passage hits his forehead with a heavy thunk. “y/n,” Elvis said almost in a whisper, scared to upset you more than you already were. “I know I could never understand what you’re going through right no-“ “YOUR DAMN RIGHT YOU DON’T.” you go to throw another object at him, but he rushes towards you, catching the glass paperweight before it ever left your hand. “I’m sorry, I’m trying my hardest to get to them, hopefully soon I can have you altogether here.”
September 15, 1959
You felt like your life was over, you wallowed in your bed for what felt like months, because it had been. You had received word that your son was now back in the states with his father, your ex-husband, who by all means, was a piece of shit. Your daughter still wasn’t able to be located, right before you disappeared, she had started dating this nice boy from Lyon and had spoken a few times about going to visit his family’s estate, you hoped she was safe.
Elvis, despite your moping, had been very attentive when he was home. he felt at blame for letting your son slip through the cracks and had no qualms with you needing to take time to recuperate. You were looking at a photo of your children together for last easter when you heard a knock at the door. “don’t come in I want to be left alone.” You announce, knowing he’s gonna come in anyways. “Darlin?” Elvis muttered under his breath. “whaddaya say we get out of the house today? We can go buy some clothes and you can get lunch?” Elvis asked sweetly.
You obliged his request knowing the longer you laid there the harder it would be for you to get up. You got up and put on a clean dress, looking at yourself in the mirror you winced, your hair was so matted and tangled and your eyes were red and baggy, you looked like shit. After coffee and a lunch at your favorite café you started to feel more like yourself. as the day dragged on, you started to feel more like yourself, the reminders of your loss clouding your mind less. Until you saw her. “Rosa?” you whispered under your breath, on the opposite side of the street there she was, your best friend. She hadn’t seen you, but the longer you looked at her the more you knew something wasn’t right. You looked up at Elvis whose hand was gripping yours so hard it felt like he could pull your hand off. “I think we need to go, y/n, we need to go right now.”

Hello children,
If you ever find this diary, please know that I love you. I’m leaving it with the rest of my belongings as I don’t know if or when I will return to this country. If I do it probably won’t be in your life times, I have watched from a distance as you raised your daughters, they are so beautiful and I wish it was safe for me to meet them, but it is not. I love and adore you all and wish for bright futures for your girls. I’m so sorry about what happened and it is something I will have to live with until the end of time. From my entries here you will learn why I wasn’t able to come back to you after I was abducted.
I love you, mama

say what you will about bay april (and trust me, megan fox deserves so much better) at least she's proactive about looking into things and does things without the boys-hell she's the reason they're even alive in the first place, she saved splinter and the turts as a kid
doesn't erase vernon and mikey being constantly horny on main for her or that weird technique they force her to do to get info out of stockman in oots's opening segments but still, give her credit, she's strong-willed and has a sense of justice and tries to do what's right
hmmmmmmm ok. theres a lot to say about bayverse april. and i specifically avoided talking about movie aprils cuz it was going to get repetitive and long (like 1990 april is very similar to 87 and 07 april is basically 03 april)
but with bayverse, you're right, she is the central character in that movie who drives the plot. but thats because of the megan fox of it all, being that shes the biggest star there and also because bay had an obsession with her (to her detriment bad vibes all over the fucking place holy shit leave this woman alone) we're still framing aprils ass in the shot, still being creepy about her, despite the fact this movie is trying to be from her perspective (for more info on that aspect i think you just gotta watch lindsay ellis' "the framing of megan fox" video about transformers, because its the same shit here)
and just because its like 87 april (because this movie is pandering to 87 fans) doesnt mean theyre really add anything or even understand the concept of what makes 87 april good in the first place. like i said in my post about 87 april, what makes her great is that the turtles fall into her story, and that we are centred on the news room politics of it all. the human world the turtles interact with is her life.
(this got kinda long so its under a cut)
in this movie, we change the misogynistic boss burne thompson into: whoopi goldburgs burnadette thompson. which. hm, color and gender blind casting for burne thompson is. a way to do it i guess. (i do know whoopi is in this movie because she wanted to be in a turtles movie, no disrespect there) but it removes that core element of reporter april fighting her shitty boss. in this she's now just a regular reporter working at a normal news station, but also we're still giving her the girly aerobics story. so, who's decided that if her boss is a black woman? thats kind of fundamentally changing the implications of why shes stuck doing that job, its no longer because shes the woman reporter, and is now just because thats what shes been assigned. now its not her fighting sexism, its her just not wanting to do her job. a shitty one, but its no longer because of a sexist work place.
and then her story of being a reporter is she gets FIRED for being a BAD reporter, because shes crazily rambling about turtles to her boss with no real sources. which...87 april didnt do that, her point wasnt to find the turtles, it was to use her job to help them. the turtles are the secret, not the story. for a movie that likes pandering to 87 and nothing else, they missed this concept entirely
(side note that isnt important, when shes rambling to the roommate about them.... this movie panders enough to 87, why is the roommate not just named irma. shes only in that scene. seriously, it should have just been irma.)
and then. the vernon fenwick of it all........ why the fuck. did you do this. why make him the only character who believes her? oh sorry, not even believes her, simply THINKS SHES HOT. SO GOES ALONG WITH IT. i know they wanted to put casey jones in this movie, but then went NOOO that would be SILLY if the guy hanging out with her is casey (we want to save him for the seqeul) so lets make it another reporter. uh vernon. hes from the original! and thus we change vernon from being the rival reporter who hates her because shes a woman whos better at his job than him, into just: her creepy co reporter who has a crush on her. and since he's the co star here, she has to not tell him off for his bad behaviour. maybe he'll even get a date out of it!
(again, if she needed a sidekick, irma is right there, you put the other two here, why not irma)
and the choice to make her a part of the turtles origin story is, in my perspective, very much like my issue with 12 april's destined to be part of the story thing. shes part of this story because her dad created the turtles. yes, she saved the turtles and splinter, but its less of her own choice in the matter, its because she was the daughter of the man who made them. its the opposite of what i think makes her a good character in the franchise, someone who is hunting for a story and gets in too deep, and happens to be near enough by the turtles that they get her out.
like lets compare her to the april closest to her, 1990 april. thats an april who gets into the plot via going hunting for a story on her own. there's some kind of gang up to no good and she wants to get to the bottom of it. she does get to the bottom of it all on her own, she learns via interviewing immigrants that the foot is the organization behind it. shes doing something no one wants her to do, shes going against what her boss, and what cops think she should be doing, and the foot literally try to kill her because SHE is hunting for THEM. she ends up in turtle plot because raphael HAPPENS to be around when the foot find her. its HER story. the foot is after HER. the turtles in that movie end up losing splinter and then fighting the foot BECAUSE april was looking for them. THATS what makes her have agency in the story.
i do think a lot of you guys are missing my point here though (no offence!) so let me try to explain it better.
its not just about if we see april be a self sufficient character who's central to the plot, or even what her personality is like, its whether she exists in a real way outside of the men around her. its if her choices are important to the story. she doesnt need to have saved the turtles, know how to fight, kicked the shredder, or have been right about whatever story is going on. the question is: is she in the story because she did something on her own to get to it? is she a character who matters without the men in her life? can she stand on her own? do you care about her life? what are her aspirations, how is she trying to achieve them?
based on all that, i think 2014 april is in fact the weakest april. they're only making her seem like 1987 april because, and i dont know if ive said this anywhere yet, men who watched 87 when they were kids think shes hot. that is the only value a lot of people have placed on her. thats her legacy to a lot of people. its fucked up, and this movie doesnt do anything to dissuade you from thinking that.
sorry to go off on your ask, but bayverse (specifically the first one) really got no aspect of any tmnt thing correct. not april, not shredder, not splinter, not casey, and not the aspect of how these turtles are even ninja (i think everyone involved shouldn't be allowed to make another piece of media for putting that fucking ninjitsu book in the fucking sewer)
