Bullet Train
Last week, I couldn't stand the suffocating weather and unexpectedly went to the cinema. It was perfect that was the first day of the screening of Bullet Train.
Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka, which years ago, I read in one go while hospitalised in Kolkata, is a long suspense story that can only be read on such occasions. Once you get on, you can't get off, it's super-fast speed, like a bullet train, so the pun is exquisite. He's the kind of novelist whose brain is made up of Rubik's cubes ,deep.
So if you get into his sense of humour, you can't get off, and even the blackest scenes are pleasantly funny.
This is one of the Isaka works I was looking forward to seeing made into a film, but when I read that it was going to be a Hollywood film starring Brad Pitt, I thought "no way", but it was really real.
I happened to see it in IMAX that day because of a convenient screening time. The aftertaste was like riding a rollercoaster, passing the bullet train to the end of the line as soon as the "Departure Progress~" train departed.
It took me about 10 minutes to get used to the gap between the film and the original, and also to the IMAX specifications, but I remembered Haruki Murakami once saying that he enjoys reading the translated versions of his books as the work of others, and when I watched the film detached from the original, I was able to concentrate on it, no problem. In the end, it was exactly 'Maria Beetle’.
Surely, filmmakers, directors, actors and Mr Isaka are all on the same radio.
It's a cool film that transcends the stresses of the empty pole with a laugh. The violence didn't bother me, because life is bloody.
'More and more guests are either falling down the stairs. Please be careful when exiting the staircase", I inwardly thought " Hmph", but there were quite a few people who really did fall down.
30 years after ‘Thelma & Louise’, Brad Pitt is immortal.

“The extraordinary thing about cinema is its ability to suggest the ineffable—something that cannot or should not be expressed in words, only hinted at through sounds and images. It is this elusive, dreamlike quality that informs my work”

Mary and Max is a movie about two pen pals from across the world. A wonderfully animated film made in 2009 by Adam Elliot (Based on a true story). Very humorous and dark. Strongly recommended for 13 years or older. Please don't watch if triggered easily!
