Hey, nonbinary people? Nonbinary people who don’t identify as trans?

I just wanted to make a post for you. I’ve been seeing a lot of “well, nonbinary people are still trans so they’re okay” posts and it’s so important to include the nonbinary people who DO identify as trans, but I’m not seeing anything about y’all who DON’T.

It’s awful to be identifying with an umbrella term only to be told by a bunch of people that you don’t really fit the criteria. For an umbrella term. That is self identified.

You’re not trans enough for this, but you’re not cis enough for that. Maybe you’re cis and trans, maybe you’re just cis.

But nonbinary people? Nonbinary people who are cis?

I love you. I love you and I’m sorry the world is trying to make labels so small that no one will fit.

The Basics. Cisgender Nonbinary isn't the most well-known identity, so it's not a shock that many people have no idea what this label means, or how a person could be cisgender and nonbinary - especially since transgender nonbinary is a far more common identity.

Gender Neutral Parenting. Overtime, the idea of raising your children outside of a gendered environment - including not labelling them as male or female and not using gendered pronouns - has gotten more popular, especially amongst gender diverse parents. These children, raised with no gender, are now growing up and finding themselves in a unique position - cisgender nonbinarism!!

Assigned Not-Your-Business At Birth. For some people, they view their assigned gender as irrelevant. They are nonbinary because they always have been, regardless of assigned sex or gender they were raised as. Identifying as transgender may not feel right, because it feels less like transitioning and more like... existing how they always have.

Intersex Nonbinaries. While the idea that intersex people are "cis nonbinary" is a misconception - some intersex people do identify this way. Due to their intersex variation, identity, or whatever reason they may have, they view their sex as nonbinary and therefore cisgender nonbinary feels most comfortable.

CisTrans and Unlabelled. Not every nonbinary person with fit conveniently into the cis or trans boxes. Some will feel their identify lays somewhere outside these two boxes, or mixes within it. CisTrans is an identity slowly clawing its way into common knowledge, as are unlabelled nonbinary folk.

Just because some identity is contradictory to you doesn't mean it can't make sense. Actually, nuanced identities are often contradictory when you know the basics of it, ignoring all details and complexity a multilabeled or combined identity can be.

If you think cisgender nonbinary people can't have a definition bc then it would describe someone who is not cis, then you're in the wrong bc just cause something describes you it doesn't mean it applies or include you bc the identity requires self-identification as well.

Same goes for bi lesbian, demisexual, or lesboy, you 'are technically lesboy' (/demi/lunian) but refuses to label yourself as such? Cool then you're not/don't experience that identity 🤯 and that's okay. But to imply anyone with such identity are not that thing bc it can't exist, then you're being a reality denier, bc ppl with such identities exist regardless if you recognize them or not. For instance, just bc someone uses ungrammatical conlangs doesn't mean that language can't exist. In fact, it's written already and it's on you if you're gonna cry or ignore.

Also transhet people are allowed to be nonbinary; binaryn't transfems/transmascs are allowed to be hetero due to their alignment, presentation, AGAB, or any other typical reason.

(The enban, man, woman parts can be replaced with other words like nonbinary, enby, boy, guy, male, girl, gal, female, etc.. Tris is short for transcis/cistrans.)

Flags for these terms already exist (except maybe tris nonbinary), but I wanted to make my own versions just for fun.

Trans nonbinary is a combo of the trans and nonbinary flags' colors. I edited the trans pink and nonbinary yellow to be less eyestrainy / have slightly more contrast. Cis nonbinary is similar to the other cis flags I made here, but I only used one grey stripe for cis because nonbinary has 3 main colors, and I wanted to keep the 5 stripe format. (The cis flags are also vertical, because I think it helps differentiate them from other flags.) Tris nonbinary uses the tris flag as a base, with an added yellow and purple stripe from nonbinary. The outer stripes were also made more grey, for the grey stripe from nonbinary. I chose to combine the white and light grey stripes, since they're very similar.

For trans man and cis man, the top/left blue stripes come from this man flag, and have the same color meanings. The light pink and blue stripes (slightly edited to be less eyestrainy), come from the trans flag, and represent being trans. The light greys are grayscale versions of the blue colors, and represent being cis.

Trans woman and cis woman follow a similar pattern. The pink stripes come from this matching woman flag, and also have the same color meanings. my gender so cool I think you'd like to hear it... so I'm boyflux because obvvy sometimes im Really Guy and sometimes i'm Really Not (neutroisness 4 me). However! i am bigender also in the sense I always have agender as apart of my identity. but then you might think well how do you have both a fluctuating and static gender why do they do that... ezpz. my boyflux gender is like an opacity lever. the lower the boyness the more neutrois and the clearer my agenderness is and vice versa. so cool

Ooh, this is a really cool way to visualize how genders behave, by seeing it as a sort of opacity slider.

For me, it's always been two static entities (two genders) revolving around some kind of "core" - like planets revolving around a star. Every so often, one of the planets eclipses the other, so it feels like there's more of one gender than the other. So, I have two static genders that change from time to time.

So also like. Gender is weird. Like, really weird. Finally got a therapist in the first place, who is fully not prepared for my shit... and what exactly did I expect in the red-painted middle of fucking nowhere? Even the only queer center in town offered group therapy :) like thanks I personally know every NB over 30 within two counties :) what you have there is baby gays and teens :) which are nice but imma end up mentoring them and not finding out shit about myself :) but go off I guess. Also it would be in the middle of D&D night (guess how I know every NB over 30 within two counties).

Anyway the ongoing situation is that I've always been a Noticably Gender sort of person since puberty, very much "if you actually try to cosplay as a binary it will look very stupid" levels of stuff. And yeah, yeah, I know, do whatever you want, but I'm also kind of trying to have a career right now. Um. The doctors have finally found 0.3 grams of taking me seriously.

I've been prescribed Estrogen and Progesterone.

Which. Hey, what the fuck. I have apparently unlocked the super secret cheaterpants gender levels of Cis NB and AFAB trans fem. What. The fuck.

And it's so about to get so much messier because uhhh funny story I've never had dysphoria in my fucking life UNTIL I TOOK THAT SHIT. It's crazy making. I catfished my ex to find out why we broke up (two years later and I wasn't sure). I ran off to the next state with some slut (affectionate) and considered calling into work for a few days and then I had to anyway because my old ass car broke down. Cried a lot. Hated myself and my life and everything I've worked so hard for. Bled on a lot of shit because 85% of the time I DON'T and I was not equipped for that level of carnage.

Stopped taking them and everything was fine again.

But, since I don't have a real, hormonal gender? I'm going to die. Of cancer.

Neat, right? So can I.... go the other way? Maybe try just a little bit of T to see if I go batshit banana pants that way too?

No. I cannot. Not in my state. Because the qualifying condition is "wanting to be a man" and I don't? Especially? I'm more in the camp "fuck it, I'm three quarters of the way there anyway, and clearly horrible at being a girl to exactly no one's great surprise"... but that doesn't count.

So, here we are. I'm turning into a drug dealer at this point, because who the fuck treats autism with Vyvanse? That and the estrogen are paying off the new, less broken car.

Yeah, for me I am not a cis man when I’m a man, I’m transmasculine. Transfeminine when I’m a woman, and cis when androgynous. I grew up and was assumed all androgynous left male.
