#demisexual representation

i haven't talked about this on here, and idk if tamsyn necessarily intended it to come off that way but harrow being a demisexual lesbian is one headcanon you can pry from my cold dead hands lol something about how's particular brand of demi lesbianism and the fact that her LI is hot butch really helped me figure out that im in fact a lesbian and not bi as i thought.] but like listen: The only people Harrow has canonically loved: - the Body (basically the image of woman who can never love her back and on whom Harrow can project whatever she wants) - Gideon (aka someone she has known since literal childhood, "her only friend") - (she does admit ianthe is beautiful but i don't personally consider that sexual attraction for several reasons, but that's for a different post possibly after i reread HtN) I mean yeah she's religiously repressed obviously, but it's not just that. She literally spends the entirety of HtN being like "ew sex, marriage, kissing, the idea of marrying your cavalier" (even when it doesn't involve her) UNTIL the moment she remembers Gideon
That's like... the BEST representation of demisexuality I have seen, bar none idc if it's meant to be canon

Just some random headcanons for Tony, Peter, and Bruce, revolving around their mental health and sexual/gender orientation.
TW: Mentions of self-harm in Tony and Bruce's parts.
Tumblr media
Tony definitely has ADHD along with PTSD, anxiety, and crippling depression. Because of his ADHD, he often hyper fixates on his projects in the lab. When he does get hyper fixated, he won't leave his lab unless it's to use the bathroom or get something to eat, and even then, it's a very delayed process. The only people who can get him out of his lab when he gets like that is Pepper, Bruce, Natasha, Happy, Rhodey, Morgan, and Peter. He's also Pansexual. During his teenage years, he self-harmed quite frequently. He usually used a blade, cutting his arms but sometimes cutting his thighs and stomach instead if there was the looming threat of someone finding out. He only started his playboy persona after all the scars had faded a bit, so when he was around twenty-two or so.
Tumblr media
Peter is a transgender man and openly bisexual. He came out to his Aunt May a few months before he came out as trans, so when he was twelve or thirteen. Tony helped pay for his top surgery and scouted out the best surgeons he could for Peter, and because of his extra fast regeneration, he healed extremely quickly and didn't even scar afterwards. He was so glad not to have to wear a binder during patrol anymore, as it was causing great damage to his ribs and lungs. Even years later, he still randomly gets heartburn, chest pains, and shortness of breath. He doesn't feel like he needs bottom surgery because packers and strap-ons seem to work well enough for him, and MJ doesn't very well care what he does with his privates. He also has ADHD, anxiety, and mild depression. MJ always makes sure to set alarms for him, create a detailed electronic and physical color-coded calendar for him, and send him reminder texts to help with his horrible time blindness. For the most part, lots of reassurance from Tony, Aunt May, MJ, and Ned is enough to kind of help him with his depression enough for him to continue on with his normal day-to-day life without any major interference. To convince Aunt May to put Peter on puberty blockers when he was twelve, he worked together with Ned to create a PowerPoint with the pros and cons and alternatives for puberty blockers.
Tumblr media
Bruce is demisexual and asexual, and he's only ever been in three or four relationships in his adult life (as he had a middle school girlfriend that he doesn't really count as 'dating'). He has crippling anxiety, severe depression, and once checked himself into a mental hospital because he felt like he'd end up hurting himself or others around him. He's also very private about his issues, he's one of those people whose thought process is 'well, this could be worse, there are always people out there that have it worse than me'. This is totally random, too, but he hates the color green, it reminds him too much of The Other Guy. He hasn't relapsed in years, but he used to cut almost every week. Tony was actually the one to help him stop, as Tony himself has a history of self-harm and understood everything Bruce was going through, or at least tried to understand, unlike a lot of other people in Bruce's life, which he appreciates more than Tony will ever understand He doesn't have any scars on his arms, though, as he would often works closely with children and didn't want to taint their innocence, so he usually stuck to his stomach and thighs.
Sadly, that's all I have time to write but I'll definitely be back sometime within the next few days with another one of these with some other characters. I want to eventually do all The Avengers in a series of sorts. By the way, how are we liking the colored text?

Unjust, And Also Stupid
Tumblr media
“But what of you?" Brodcrum asks. "What does your heart tell you about yourself?”
Naewoon gives him a measuring look, trying to figure if Brodcrum’s coming onto him. But the Barbarian’s tone is more comforting than pressing, and Naewoon figures he’d helped Brodcrum by listening to him, and now Brodcrum feels honor-bound to return the favor. Naewoon finds himself saying, “My heart tells me I don’t know what I want.”
“Those sound like the words of a woman who is looking on the desires of others, thinking they are her own.”
“Maybe,” Naewoon says, and after a long silence, “I’m here because I didn’t want to get married. It’s the ideal, supposedly, for an Aeyilwurtian scholar to never marry, to give their whole life to their work. That’s what I was doing for a few years after I came of age, and I was happy. Then one day my mother visited, saying, ‘Good news, Naewoon! I’ve arranged the perfect match for you!’ It was all I could do to sputter, ‘What, like a marriage?’ And before I knew it, she was introducing me to my fiancee, and she was… perfect, or so everyone said. Gorgeous, intelligent, a renowned scholar from a very old family of renowned scholars. But there was something… not right.”
“You needed a man,” Brodcrum guesses. “Not a match, but a counterpart to your womanly loveliness.”
“That was my mother’s reaction too, when I called it off,” Naewoon says, followed by a mental, Minus your strange ideas about my gender. “She said my fiancee’s parents would let me marry their son if I preferred, so long as I still had children with their daughter.”
            “Sordid.”
Naewoon nods. “Even if it hadn’t been so… icky, I wouldn’t have had any interest in that either. It’s not that I was… what’s traditionally called a ‘perfect scholar’ or, more precisely, an asexual--”
“Attracted to ace swordsmen?” Brodcrum asks hopefully.
“Without sexual interest.” Naewoon’s not sure if Brodcrum had been joking or honestly confused. “No, there was a part of me that thrilled at the sight of my fiancee, and her brother too, because he was as handsome as she was beautiful. But another part of me, part I still don’t understand, said, ‘NO. Absolutely not.’ I just knew I had to get out of that marriage any way I could.”
Brodcrum strokes his chin. “The woman I loved, in a time that is now lost, I knew for years before we fell into each other’s arms. The year before our first lovemaking we had been through much that tied us together as if with chains. She told me, after some time to reflect, that she had felt not a solitary spark of desire for me or anyone else until shortly before that first night. I told her, ‘But of course! I was a boy when we first met, and now--behold--by my deeds I have become a demigod! You are demigodsexual!’ She told me I was stupid, and that it was not my deeds, but our bond that made her want me. Perhaps you are a… loversexual? Like her. You needed a bond that you did not have, because you did not know her before your mother told you to marry her.”
“I don’t think it’s that. I’ve met total strangers that make my heart beat fast and my knees go weak--” Naewoon blushes when he realizes he’s just described Brodcrum, but that’s ridiculous. That had been the result of peril, and even if it hadn’t been, he can’t go getting hot under the collar and hard in the pants for this Barbarian, not when the plan is to return to Aeyilwurt in triumph, to reclaim his reputation and perhaps seek a wife or husband on his own terms. “There was just… something about that situation, how transactional it was, maybe, that made me willing to burn down my whole career to get out of it.”
“I do not understand.” Brodcrum leans forward attentively. “Aeyilwurt is like the Inn at the Edge of the World but for scholars instead of swordsmen, yes? If I rejected a woman who everyone praised as perfect, men would mock me behind my back, but I would still be Brodcrum the Bloody. There is nothing about not desiring this beautiful yet repulsive woman that--”
“Don’t call her that. She was perfectly nice the whole time, even when I called things off, which is more than I can say for most people. I hope she ends up with someone who can cherish her properly.”
“But there is nothing about your unmarriagefulness that makes you a less able book-witch, that is what I mean to say.”
“Aeyilwurt is… weird.” Naewoon searches for words. “Ankyria has had its eyes on us for more than a century now, and everyone says they leave us alone because rich Ankyrians send their sons to us to be educated, but the reality is that it’s Quat’s intercession alone that keeps us free. And what Quat wants is knowledge. He wants great scholars who offer up their original research the way other gods receive meat and mead. That means Aeyilwurt doesn’t just need great scholars, it needs to keep having great scholars. Supposedly we’re civilized. Supposedly everyone is free to love or not love whomever they choose, but all that really matters, if you’re an elite scholar from a family of elite scholars, is that you have children. That you contribute to the population of scholars who will continue to ensure Aeyilwurt’s so-called freedom. You show that you aren’t willing to do that…” Naewoon snaps his fingers. “And your career can evaporate before your eyes.”             “That is unjust, and also stupid,” Brodcrum rumbles, his eyes full of a distant wrath that makes Naewoon think he’d probably kill Magister Onkilput if he were to suddenly appear at their fireside. Naewoon is uncomfortable with how grateful he is for that homicidal level of support. 💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀⚔💀 BEHOLD! As an OC introject, I keep coming back to the thought of writing my source as a work of fiction from my point of view. This idea is complicated for me because of the other person involved.
My source was written by our host and their ex, whose character was the Main Character, and my best friend. My family. But this person, and their character, hurt us, hurt me, in extremely personal ways. I'm sure I'll post about it eventually.
Point being, I know if I decided to sit down and write this that I would make Her the villain. Without changing the details. If I told this story from my point of view, everyone would see the blatant manipulation much quicker than I did.
And a part of me really wants to share it for that reason. To get some kind of validation from strangers that it was obvious. That she was horrible and I was an idiot for not noticing. I'm still trying to prove to myself that I was hurt. That it was "that bad."
But I can't tell if this would actually be cathartic for me or if it would just send me spiraling all over again. I think it could be a passion project. I think it would mean a lot to me to get to "share my truth" or whatever, and have people enjoy it as a story, where they can fall in love with the characters and the worldbuild and the plot structure, and I can finally separate the "real life" pain from the pain of my source.
Interest wise, it's a tale of vampires and werewolves and magic. Of your typical idiot highschoolers that get way in over their heads. Of romance and betrayal. Of prejudice and fighting for what's right. I know I'd read it if it weren't already mine. If you like Buffy, My Babysitter's a Vampire, or hell, maybe even Supernatural, you might like this.
Maybe I'll write a couple scenes out of context and see if anyone bites. Let me know if this is at all interesting to any of you.
Thanks,
Lio

All The Creatures Were Stirring
Original Cozy, Queer Fiction. Rated T. 10k words. Supportive Family, Found Family, Asexuality Rep/Romance Read in Full: cgaubrey.com
When the Halloween Knight goes missing, misfit hearth witch, Merry Claus (yes, that Claus) must team up with their mercurial steed to find Hallow and save Halloween.
‘Twas the Night of All Hallows and through the Dark Wood All the Creatures Were Stirring as well that they should.
Merry Claus was born a frightening nearly eight weeks early, on what would have been Halloween night if Christmas Town had such. She was very like every other Claus in a hundred generations–face pleasingly round, moon-pale, red-cheeked, and dimpled—and she laughed twice before she ever once cried. Her hair was so wild and wispy that she always needed a cap, but it wasn’t the rainbow-white of new-fallen snow, it was the color of cobwebs and dreams of wood smoke. The shape of her eyes was the same as her father’s, wide and wondering, but they did not twinkle as a good Claus’s should. Instead, they gleamed darkly, deep as a scrying mirror.
In time, Merry grew as plump as her parents, with her father’s strong shoulders and her mother’s broad hands, and she was as ever stalwart, loving, and true. But it became quickly obvious to everyone that she would never be fully happy at the North Pole. The Winter Forest was too quiet. Faced with perpetual hibernation, most creatures had chosen a warmer clime, and Merry, who read every wildlife book she could find, loved every creature, great and small, beautiful and terrible. So much so that she was lonely for them. She tried making friends among the arctic creatures, but they were shy or more solitary even than she. And after the incident with the polar bear, her poor parents had no choice but to keep her close to home, which meant she had only the reindeer, and the chickens, and her mother’s two turtle doves.
None of whom wanted to abscond on fright-night adventures with the young cobweb-haired witch of Christmas Town.
Merry did her best to fit in, though that was never demanded of her. No Santa worth his snow, her father always said, would repeat the mistakes of Rudolph’s. Still, Merry didn’t mind wearing the family’s traditional red. It was as dramatic as any vampire cape and layered well with autumn plaids. And she shared her mother’s love of baking, of cinnamon and spice. No one ever complained that she added pumpkin to every recipe, or carved spooky silhouettes into her pie crusts.
When the elves baked Winter Solstice cookies, Merry iced the stars in orange, the moon in harvest yellow with black shadows flying before it: witches and bats, ravens and owls. The elves laughed good-naturedly, asked if she had gotten lost, but her parents would not let anyone correct her.
“That would imply,” said Father Christmas sternly, “that she had done anything wrong.”
But Merry would realize that she was different, even if different didn’t mean wrong.

Day 26 of Palettes of Pride 2023 !! I decided to draw my demisexual bean Tori in a scene from Chapter 21 of Reckless Truth, quite late in the book. In this scene she has a heartfelt conversation with Lydia, attempting to comfort and bring her out of a mental health episode. In this scene I briefly touch on Tori's demisexuality, which it why I drew this scene in particular! It's subtle and can be interpreted however the reader wants (especially as it has layers you won't quite be aware of in this book), but in writing it my intention was to show that while Tori and Lydia's blossoming relationship was growing exponentially, Tori still needs time to cross the boundary into sex, and Lydia (despite being one of the more sexual characters in the book) respects that without resistance. It's the main reason there's no sex in book 1!

Made a random Amalgam OC to represent my Demisexuality. Since I already made art to represent that I'm autistic, I wanted more art to fully represent who I am. And of course, the Asexual flag is in the background, as Demisexuality is a sub-set of Asexuality.

For Never & Always (CBR16 #1)
I’m feeling a little rusty in my reviewing skills and kicking myself for not getting this specific review written when I finished the book because I had thoughts and now, I have fewer. I should probably start by saying that I really, truly enjoyed For Never & Always by Helena Greer in much the same way I did reading her previous book Season of Love. For Never & Always is also a queer romance…

can we talk about the fact that the L word gen Q has a canon demisexual character?
Like this has not left my brain. I can literally not think of any other demisexual characters on TV, and I the only other demi character I know is Aled from Radio Silence. There might be more I don't know of, but we can count the number of canon aspec characters on two hands (even after heartstopper 2).
This show has so many faults and honestly, it wasn't great representation - but i will never not be excited for aspec rep and I am so so happy for Carrie, that she learned this about herself and found someone who accepted her. We need more of this please

Third book of 2023. I am a sucker for a good hockey romance and I did enjoy this one. Full disclosure it did take me awhile to warm up to one of the main characters and the first half of the book was slow for me. The other main character is demisexual and I loved the way the author built their relationship. I enjoyed the second half of the book way more. The slow burn was really nice and while light on smut I loved the relationship that these two characters formed. I would give this 3.5 stars.

Okay I have a hot take and a controversial opinion here; but I've seen a lot of people get upset over shipping Alastor with other characters due to the fact he's ace, and I totally get it- representation matters. But people shouldn't be getting mad over harmless shipping, especially when it ereases other asexual identities. Demisexuals exist. Asexuals who experience romantic attraction exist. Abrosexuals exist. We want representation too :')
