A Little StarChaser Story
Fandom: Marauders
Relationship(s): StarChaser, (very) background WolfStar
Trope: Enemies to Lovers, Idiots in Love
******************
He hated that man. Truly. Deeply with every fiber of his being. He had from almost the very moment JP Jewelers had opened up directly across from his own store at the Promenade. He honestly couldn’t understand why James Potter was even in the jewelry business at all. He certainly didn’t understand why James insisted on “popping over to check his sales” every day or so, smug smile plastered on his face as he let his fingers trace along Regulus’ own jewelry displays. Like this was some game they were playing, James leaning close and asking if the titanium bands were selling, asking if he was donating the merchandise from what he assumed was a vast personal collection, treating Regulus’ business like his personal stage to perform in. Regulus hated the way James moved through the space like he belonged there, hated the way he’d smile and say “Later Reggie!” as he waltzed back out the door and back to his own shop.
For his part James loved Regulus. Or at least loved to get under his skin. Had from the moment he saw him while he was touring open store fronts. His serious expression and down turned lips tracking James and the mall rep as they discussed prices. James had delighted when Regulus stalked over to make sure they understood that putting a jewelry store directly across from his own was a terrible business decision for all involved. He had been positively giddy when Regulus leveled a glare at him when he responded with a smile and a glib “oh I don’t know, might be fun, a little friendly competition to keep us all on our toes.” James didn’t understand Regulus, why he kept everything so serious, why he seemed to refuse to enjoy life, why he wouldn’t just let James in a little bit. James didn’t understand him, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to needle Regulus anytime he had the chance.
The Holidays brought out the best and worst in them. Last year, the first year they were both open, they had spent weeks trying to one up each other with sales and deals, their respective signs containing barely hidden references to the other’s store. The rivalry enough to bring the local news their way to “report” on the holiday jewelry hijinks, and Regulus had been loathe to admit that it did drive sales, for both shops, just the way James had insisted it would. This year the interest, and the chaos seemed to double, customers seeking out both shops to see who would outdo the other, to take pictures of their signs and watch as James and Regulus snarked back and forth from their counters.
Regulus is exhausted, and frustrated, why couldn’t James just leave him be? The sales were nice, but having James’ attention on him was starting to wear him thin. He needed a break, so when Sirius approached him and tells him that he stealing him away for a brothers night at a small cafe his friend Marlene owns, Regulus doesn’t think twice about grabbing his coat and following his brother down the street.
James is exhausted as well, but elated, the energy of the holidays buzzing through him to the point that he’s probably going to burn out if he’s not careful. His brain is going a mile a minute as he walks with Remus across town to grab a late night bite to eat, Remus murmuring quietly beside him as James recounts his day in minute detail. James barely even has time to react as they push through the door and he finds himself face to face with Regulus, the first time he’s seen him outside the shop, his eyes darting around the room and slotting puzzle pieces together quickly.
“Wait… Regulus is Reg?! Your Reg?” James blurts out, glancing at Sirius who is now wrapped up in Remus’ arms.
“Oh for fucks sakes Siri. James is Remus’ friend Jamie? Unreal. Why am I just now learning this?” Regulus looks like he might walk right out of the cafe, or cry, or both to be honest.
“Right, well… we’re tired of hearing the two of you complain about each other. I had figured you guys would have worked yourselves out by now, but you seemed determined to stay enemies and we won’t have it. So… good luck, try not kill each other, enjoy the food Marls left out for you, we’ll see you later.”
Both James and Regulus stared as Sirius dramatically swept out the door, Remus giving them one last look before saying “for real you guys, talk your shit out, get to know each other, maybe kiss a little” and tossing a wink at them before closing the door behind him.
And if Sirius and Remus happened to peak back through the window a few hours later to find James’ hands tangled in Regulus’ hair and Regulus comfortable in James lap… well that’s nobody’s business but their own. Perhaps this holiday season will be a little happier after all.

Down We Go | Aaron Hotchner
Synopsis: Aaron takes you shopping and you both find yourselves in a predicament when you run into his team and they recognize you as Jack's friend. — part 3 of (one and two)
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Younger (Of Age) F!Reader
Warnings: Age gap (r is over 22, Aaron is in his late 40's), fluff, best friend's father trope
Tumblr media
"Not to alarm you or anything, honey, but you do realize how this looks to others, right?" You ask, voice tinged with unbridled amusement as you suppress a laugh.
Aaron blinks at you blankly, trying to figure out what you were talking about as the clerk shuffles away to bag up the necklace he was buying for you.
"Aaron, you look like my sugar daddy right now." You explain with a snicker, pinching his side as his eyes widen a bit.
"There's no way people are actually thinking that, right?" He asks almost incredulously as he glances around and curls his arm around your waist.
You shrug and lean into his side, "We're in the right age range for that to be an appropriate assumption." You joke quietly, not bothered by the lingering stares you could feel from other mall patrons.
"When did a man buying his girlfriend jewelry become a crime." He grumbles in false exasperation, thanking the clerk when she comes back and passes the gift bag over the glass display case.
You smile as he carries it for you, taking his hand as he leads you out of the store. "You tell me. You're the one that works with social taboos for a living, Mr. Unit Chief."
"You're going to be the death of me." He murmurs under his breath, a small smile accompanying his complaint.
"You love me." You grin cheekily and bump your hip against his as you both walk. "Now, let's go buy some more ties for you."
"What about that pretzel you wanted earlier?" His asks, already relenting to your sudden suggestion. He lets you drag him toward a multi-story department store at the end of the mall, the glossy floors and milling patrons drawing you both in.
"Forget about the pretzel, honey." You rush out, glancing back at him to see the familiar defeated smile on his face that you've grown accustomed to.
He gives a big sigh and tugs your hand back gently so he's walking closer to you again, pressing you against his side. "Don't think I'm not aware that you just want an excuse to see me wearing more ties."
"Aaron, if you were me, you'd understand this obsession that I harbor." You jokingly lament, looking down at your phone and scrolling past the very appropriately-timed flash of your lockscreen, a selfie (that you begged him to take) of him in his suit while he was on his lunch break.
Just as you both cross into the threshold of the department store, you hear a surprised call of Aaron's name. "Hotch?"
Both you and Aaron spin on your heels to see a small group of people staring at you both. Sifting through your memories, you quickly deduce that it was his BAU team, recognizing them from the various photos he's shown you.
"JJ... Hi." He says politely, nodding to the rest of his teammates who were now gawking at you. "Having a good weekend so far?"
The woman— JJ, nods and smiles faintly, eyes flitting to observe you for a millisecond. "Yes, we all decided to just walk around after grabbing brunch."
"So... gonna introduce us?" A man you recognized as Derek speaks up, sharing a look around the group.
Aaron pauses for a second before squeezing your waist reassuringly and clearing his throat. "Right... guys, this is Y/N. Honey, this is my team." He keeps the introduction short, clearly knowing they'd likely interrogate you anyway.
"It's nice to meet you, Y/N. Y/N..." Derek mutters your name softly after greeting you, trying to get a feel for its familiarity. "Huh, you have the same name as Jack's friend." He says, pausing as the last syllable leaves his lips.
You see JJ and Emily cringe a bit at his cluelessness, clearly having realized who you were a bit before him. "Ah, yes, that's me." You answer sheepishly, smiling and meeting his gaze evenly.
Penelope, who you recognize from her colorful jewelry and joyful disposition, is quick to recover from her shock as she gasps and looks at you. “Oh my gosh, I love your shoes!”
“Oh, thank you!” You’re quick to accept the sudden shift in atmosphere. “I bought them a couple of weeks ago.”
“You’ll have to come shopping with us!” Penelope excitedly says, looking as though she was already planning out the entire trip in her head.
Emily nods warmly,. “Oh please do, I’m dying for a new dress. Even if we barely have the time to go out these days.” She jokes and rolls her eyes playfully.
“I would love to. Though I think Aaron will be the first to tell you that the last thing I need to do is more shopping.” You jest back, feeling Aaron’s hand rubbing your back slowly.
“Whatever makes you happy.” Aaron speaks up to defend himself, amusement decorating his tone as he tries to hide his little smile.
“So it’s settled then.” JJ chuckles, motioning for the group to start walking as to not create foot traffic.
Penelope flashes you a bright grin, starting to walk. "No wonder you declined for brunch, sir. But worry not, all is forgiven!"
You direct your attention back to Aaron and you frown a bit, feeling guilty for causing him to miss a team bonding day. "I thought you said you had no plans today, honey."
Aaron shakes his head gently and swiftly wraps his arm around your waist again. "I wanted to spend the day with you."
You eye him a bit with faux uncertainty before catching Derek's gaze.
“So… I have to ask. How did this happen?” Derek says, motioning between the both of you as he walks beside Aaron.
Aaron looks to you and lets you explain, knowing you always got a good kick out of telling the story. “Jack accidentally set us up together on a blind date.”
Derek’s eyebrows raise up and he huffs out a light chuckle, shaking his head. Spencer speaks up for the first time, eyebrows furrowed as he turns back a bit while he walks. “Accidentally?”
“Yeah, he had an elaborate plan to set me and Aaron up on different dates at different places, but he accidentally sent me the wrong address. And much to his absolute chagrin, we hit it off.” You elaborate with a lighthearted tone.
“He set you both up on dates on the same day?” Spencer clarifies, looking a bit befuddled.
“Between you and me, I think he just wanted some peace and quiet.” You joke, smiling when the group lets out small laughs.
Derek crosses his arms and glances at Aaron, eyes glinting in playfulness. “So this is why you’ve been all giddy these past few weeks?”
You snort, the mental image of your no-nonsense boyfriend suddenly being go-lucky at the office popping into your head. “Giddy?” You ask and raise an eyebrow at Aaron.
“I have not been giddy.” He deadpans, seemingly trying to inch away from the group with every passing second.
“Oh, no, you’ve been pretty cheerful, sir.” Penelope chimes in from in front of you.
“Yeah, I mean he’s even going back home at reasonable hours.” Emily says to you playfully.
“Never thought I’d see the day where you’d leave the office with work still on your desk.” Derek adds.
You chuckle and squeeze his hand. “Really now? He’s still putting on the workaholic facade around me. He told me that he's just been getting less paperwork lately. Good to know you’re whipped, honey.”
Aaron rolls his eyes fondly and just sighs in defeat. You have been trying to instill a sense of self-concern in Aaron, texting him almost every night to make sure he got home before midnight.
You end up walking around with his team for almost an hour, swapping stories about Aaron and getting to know them. By the time you all decide to part ways, you've gotten the girls' numbers and been put into a groupchat with them.
"I'd say that went well." You muse happily and walk with Aaron to his car. "I was nervous they wouldn't be super receptive of the relationship. I was certain Derek would throw in a few quips about you being a cradle robber."
"Oh don't worry, Dave's already got that base covered." Aaron sighs to veil his fondness.
"A little office banter can't hurt." You tease, knowing about his bond with the older agent. "And I can't believe you really almost fought that death-row convict! With your bare hands, too!" You say suddenly, recalling Spencer's little anecdote.
He exhales through his nose as he can feel the carefully crafted line between his work life and his personal life blurring. "He was intending to kill me and Reid."
"Well, I'm happy that you're always ready to defend yourself." You reassure him, grinning when he gazes at you softly. "I feel like I learned so much about you today."
"I don't want to indulge too much into my work." He says quietly, leaving no room for question. "It's not something you have to hear."
"But it's a huge part of your life. I don't need all the grisly details, of course. I just want you to be able to talk to me when you've had a hard case... when you're not feeling great about something that happened on the field." You supply with a gentle tone.
Aaron stays quiet for a moment and you take the chance to continue. "You don't have to hold your burdens in, Aaron. You've always stayed strong for everyone around you, so lean on me."
When you both get to his car, he gently guides you to face him, trapping you between the passenger door and his body. He leans to kiss your forehead as an adoring look ripples across his expression. "Thank you, sweetheart." He whispers against your skin and brushes his thumb across your cheek.
"Just doing what I can." You speak quietly, rubbing his sides a bit.
"Will you stay tonight? At my house." He requests with a tender look in his eyes. Even if you wanted to decline, the vulnerable expression painted across his face is enough to have your heart swelling with affection.
You nod and pull him in for a chaste kiss. "Of course."
When you and Aaron make it back to the Hotchner residence, you're immediately greeted by Jack's narrowed eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"I just missed you too much." You say with sarcastic longing, opening your arms for him.
His face twists in playful disgust and he tosses a pillow at you. "Ew, what the hell."
"Kidding. I'm staying the night." You explain with a light chuckle as you duck away from the pillow.
The soft object hits Aaron's chest and he shakes his head, dropping a kiss to your temple and placing the pillow back on the couch before walking up the stairs. "I'll be in the shower, honey."
"What's that?" Jack asks, stuffing some popcorn into his mouth as he pauses the show playing on the tv.
You hold up the small bag in your hand and walk toward him. "This?"
"Yeah, what'd you get?"
You pull out the tissue paper and hand him the small jewelry box. "Aaron bought me a necklace."
"Please don't tell me you're his sugar baby now. That's my inheritance you're messing with, you know." Jack huffs, looking at the necklace with interest.
You joke and take the box back. "Oh don't worry, you're already off the will."

“Alright. So how about we all split up into pairs while we go around the mall?” Nobara took a sip of her drink as you all began leaving the food court.
“That would probably be easier.” Yuta nodded.
“But there’s seven of us.” You added.
“You guys will just have to be in a group of three.” Maki slung her arm over Nobara’s shoulder, giving a sly grin to the black haired boy.
“I don’t think-” Yuta tried to protest.
“Perfect! Inumaki, you’ll come with us!” You interjected, taking a hold of the boy’s hand.
Maki watched with an amused look as Yuta glared at her. He knew exactly what she was trying to do, but it’s not like he could do anything about it.
“Let’s go then!” You began dragging the two boys away.
The three of you then began strolling through the mall, pointing at windows and looking inside the stores. You did most of the dragging, pulling Yuta and Inumaki into whatever store caught your eye.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Look at this!” You smack Yuta’s arm to get his attention. The three of you were currently stationed at the front counter of an antique shop, looking at all the various trinkets that were displayed behind the glass barrier.
In this case, you were focused in on a simple silver ring. The obviously well-loved wedding band sat in a velvet box, practically begging for attention. You couldn’t help but stare at it.
Small engravings ran through the material, creating intricate designs across the entire surface. A truly beautiful piece of jewelry. It almost drew you in, in some way. Like a magnet.
“I’m almost scared to ask how much that is.” Yuta chuckled.
“It can’t be as bad as you think.” You smile. “How much is this ring?” You ask the old lady behind the counter, pointing at the silver ring.
“That one? It’s 50 dollars. But for a young one like yourself, I’ll let you have it for 40.” She smiled.
As much as you appreciated the kindness, you politely declined. Not because you felt bad, but because you simply couldn’t afford it. It was times like this when you really wished you had a job.
“I can pay for it.” Yuta offered.
“No way! I’d actually feel bad if you payed for this. 40 bucks is a lot even for you!” You immediately shut him down.
It’s true, 40 dollars is a lot for broke high school students, even if they have jobs. You couldn’t allow Yuta to spend that kind of money on you.
“You sure? You’ve been eyeing that ring for a solid 15 minutes while we looked around the store.”
“Positive.” You gave the ring one more glance before forcing yourself to leave the store. “Let’s go. Any more staring and I’ll regret not having enough money.”
“Alright, I just want to look at some of those old journals before we go, just wait outside for me.” Yuta shooed you away.
You roll your eyes with a smile, turning your attention to Inumaki as the two of you walked out. “I bet he’s gonna take a long time.”
The two of you found a bench to wait for Yuta, sitting down side by side, the two of you sat in silence. It wasn’t long before Inumaki pulled out his phone, swiping to a game and started playing.
“What are you playing?” You lean over and watch the boy tap away on his screen. He angled his phone to you, displaying a familiar game layout. “Oh! You play Genshin?”
The boy gives you a simple not. It was obvious he wasn’t much of a talker, but that didn’t bother you.
“That’s cool. I don’t really play but I really like watching this one streamer play.” You started going on about the game. “If I’m annoying you, just tell me, okay?”
“You’re not bothering me. Keep going.” He mumbled.
It was the first time you ever heard him actually speak to you. His voice was low, lower than Yuta’s at least. A little husky from the lack of use. But soft at the same time.
You couldn’t help but smile. It was like the next step in your already growing friendship. You continued to watch the boy play, leaning on his shoulder as time went on.

fun facts:
— even though she’s all for the chaos, maki does genuinely want yuta to be happy and confess his feelings
— inumaki has his phone always on do not disturb because of the amount of notifications he gets
— the original monster energy drink is yuta’s favourite because he rarely drinks them (you try to get him to try different flavours but he just doesn’t like them)

Modern!Jacerys x Reader
A/N: So instead of sleeping I wrote this one shot on my phone. Not sure if I will change my theme (maybe?) trying to get back into writing please enjoy (sort of proofread) 🫣
Also this is a modern so my fantasy world where Rhaenyra lives happily with Harwin and no one dies 😁
Synopsis: Rhaenyra takes you a shopping spree for a wedding and Jace can’t keep his hands off you
Warnings: None
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
You sighed softly rubbing your fingers into your eyes as you adjust to your surroundings. You sigh and relax as you feel the weight of the blanket and Jacerys arm around your waist. You bury your head in his neck and trace soft patterns on the exposed skin of his collarbone having just woken from your nap. The two of you currently laid on Jace’s couch while he watched whatever sports was on the tv
“Morning sleeping beauty” Jace says as you grumble still coming out of sleep fog which makes him smile and kiss the top of your head. His hand finds the warm skin on your back and begins to rub it softly as you bask in the tenderness of the moment. Both of you lost in each other you don’t notice his mother walk into the living room until she clears her throat. You sat up quickly, too quick for Jace to pull you back down which makes him groan. You felt instantly nervous like you got caught doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing. You begin to nervously pick at your fingers as you start speaking,
“Hi Mrs.Targ-“ before you can finish Rhaenyra cuts you off
“Sweetie you can call me Rhaenyra I promise. And Im about to go to mall to look for a dress for the wedding if you’d like to come along?” She asks and you look at Jace who shrugs and figure maybe this could be a bonding moment for the both of you,
“Sure that sounds like fun. I’ve been meaning to get to the store to find something,” you say standing up and looking for your shoes and bag.
“Wonderful! I’ll grab my purse then we can leave. Oh and Jace, Dad works late tonight so please don’t forget to pick up your brothers from camp” she says as Jace gives her a thumbs up.
When you arrive at the mall Rhaenyra is immediately pulling you into stores you’ve never even heard of before, all boasting price tags you could not even imagine being able to afford. Yet, you did not say anything and accompanied Rhaenyra enjoying some of the conversations you two were having. By the time you get to store #5 you are mindlessly looking through the racks, after Rhaenyra ran off a while ago, and your eyes land on a beautiful dress as you pull it out to admire it and as if she spawned suddenly behind you Rnaenyra’s voice made you jump,
“Beautiful dress. It would look good on you. You should try it on, oh and these too” she says shoving 3 more dresses into your arms making you huff.
“I appreciate it but even if it fits I cannot afford anything in my hands right now” you say with a soft smile
“Did I say pay for the dresses or did I say try them on?!” She says ushering you towards the dressing room.
In the dressing room you try on the one you liked first and knew already there was no need to try on the others. You smile at yourself taking a photo just in case this was the last time you saw yourself like this. You come out to show Rhaenyra a shy smile on your face “What do you think?” You ask as she motions for you to do a spin and to walk for her which you do.
“I think… it’s gorgeous. You couldn’t tell me otherwise this dress wasn’t sewn just for you to wear. And I’m sure my son will love this on you” she says which immediately makes your face heat up “Okay now take it off we are going to have to find jewelry and shoes and accessories much to do. I haven’t even found an outfit for myself yet” She says sighing.
“I appreciate this really but there’s no way I’d ever be able to pay you back” you start but she shushes you immediately giving that intense stare you’ve only ever seen her use with the boys
“Y/n you make my son really happy, and you’re a great girl and it’s nice to finally have a shopping partner with taste and that doesn’t complain” she says making you laugh softly “So please let me do this I’m more than happy to do so. Now hurry lots to do before this place closes” she says ushering you back into the fitting room.
Much to do was right, after hours of shopping, a lunch AND dinner break, and an exuberant amount of stores later you finally arrive back to the Targaryean-Strong residence with two armfuls full of bags that match Rhaenyra’s. You don’t think there were enough thank yous in the world for her to fully understand what today meant to you but for now all you cared about was getting in bed with your man and passing out. You trudge up the stairs until you get to Jacerys’ room and let the bags collapse to the floor. He looks at you from his bed where he laid shirtless and with his glasses on,
“I see you’ve been rhaenyra’d” he says and you nod while he opens his arms for you. You close the door and make your way over to his bed falling into his arms your head on his chest while he rubs your back,
“She adds a whole new meaning to shop till you drop” You say groaning making Jace laugh “I didn’t know it was possible to shop that long. You could’ve warned me” you say giving him a pointed stare.
“Everyone has to learn for themselves the hard way. And besides I’m sure it was a great bonding moment for you two” He says while you grumble something abt him being correct. “Cmon let’s get you ready for bed and then you can give me a complete haul tomorrow” he says pressing a sweet kiss to your lips.
~ a few weeks later
You are standing in front of Jace’s mirror putting the last of your jewelry on while you waited for him to get out of the bathroom. Some of it was yours and other pieces like your necklace and matching bracelet were pieces Rhaenyra bought you on your shopping spree a couple weeks ago. It would only be a few more minutes before you and his family were set to leave all of you riding together.
“Hey babe have you seen my-“ you hear Jace start but never finish. You finish putting your earrings in then look at him
“Seen your what?” You ask confused looking at him as he walks over to you slowly
“Forget that, look at you. Holy shit” he says putting his hands on your waist while you swat at his chest
“Enough” you say with a smile on your face as he starts kissing along your jaw then your neck before coming back to kiss your lips until you pull away “Jace we cannot. We are supposed to be leaving in a couple minutes and I don’t want you to mess up my lipstick” you say placing your hands on his chest keeping him a somewhat safe distance away.
“Fuck your lipstick and fuck this dumb wedding,” He says nipping at your bottom lip making you gigglr “I don’t even like this cousin anyway” he says grumpily while you smile at him slightly straightening his tie.
“Cmon maybe it’ll be fun. And at the very least you’ll get to spend time with me and I’ll get to spend time with your family and isn’t that always a good thing?” you ask running your hands through his curls not caring about whatever product he put in it
“Fine but one more kiss” he says
“Just one” you repeat sternly as Jace presses his lips against yours. And just like you always do, you get lost in him as he deepens the kiss, his hands find your butt, and your hands pull at his hair. Before it can go any further you’re interrupted by
“Hey guys mom and dad are ready to leave are you re-“ Lucerys starts to say before he covers his eyes and you two jump away from each other scared “I’m literally scarred for life. I’m making mom sign me up for therapy” he says turning hard on his heel and storming out not bothering to close the door as you push Jace in the chest making him laugh and grab your hand.
“Great Jacerys now we scarred your brother” you say as Jace kisses your hand
“Oh no how will he ever recover” he feigns concern making you roll your eyes with a smile and pinch him softly before grabbing your bag and looking in the mirror quickly fixing your slightly smeared lipstick. You look at Jace one more time and notice the slight lipstick on his mouth and going to wipe it off as he stops you “no leave it I think I might like the look” he says making you roll your eyes again as the two of you head downstairs.
When you both get down there you hear Lucerys telling their mother “So yeah now I need therapy because I just saw Jace and Y/N sucking face“ he says as you feel your face heat up immediately while both of his parents look at you two.
“Well you could’ve seen way worse” Jace says and before you can hit him Rhaenyra pinches him making him grab his arm
“Okay boys let’s go” Harwin says quickly ushering Joffrey and Lucerys outside and to the car while Rhaenyra smiles at you,
“Despite my sons crudeness you do look absolutely gorgeous y/n” she says giving you a hug while you thank her “And I told you he’d like the dress”

Wait… NO I DON’T NEED THAT!( Aventurine x reader)
ENJOY THIS CRACK FIC!
Tumblr media
You didn’t really expect to come back from from the mall with over 17 shopping bags filled to the brim with jewelry and clothes ….
It all started when your co-worker , Aventurine , had taken a liking towards you and started to hang out with you , giving you gifts when he visits your office .
Soon enough , it had transpired into a romantic relationship and you began to go places in Penacony together , looking at pictures and photos together .
You never asked for anything because your pay wasn’t good , and since you two worked the same job , you assumed he wasn’t paid well either .
Little did you know , you were completely wrong .
You went out to a really fancy mall and started browsing the stores to see if there was any items that you liked to save up for.
While you were inspecting a Citrine necklace through the store window , a person called out your name and started walking towards you .
It was Aventurine .
You smiled as you walked towards him , he eyed the necklace you were staring at before leading you off to a restaurant to catch up with each other .
A few days later he visited your section office and started to chat with you, you noticed that he was holding a small , rectangular, pale yellow case and asked what it was .
He smiled at you before saying ,” you know that necklace you were eyeing when I saw you the other day at the mall?” Your eyes widened , “ You couldn’t possibly…. That was 900,000 credits! Aventurine! I have to pay you back for that!”
You fumble for your wallet but then stop as you notice a gloved hand holding your wrist and preventing you from reaching your wallet.
You look at him as he smiles sweetly .”There’s no need dear.”
You stare at him dumbfounded before asking , ” Are you sure?” He nods and then takes the necklace out the box and then fastens it around your neck , the pale yellow gem shinning prettily in the center of your chest.
You stare at the gem hanging from your neck before gently tackling Aventurine and thank him repeatedly. He smiles before patting your head and nuzzling it .
After that , he began to take you to malls and restaurants around Penacony , and Every . Single . Time . He bought you something expensive.
And each and every time he did this , you almost fainted and he had to catch you and reassure you that you weren’t burning a hole of dept for him to fall into .
But today , today was different , he brought you into another mall and started to walk around , you stared at some articles of clothing before going to catch up with him .What you didn’t realize is that he saw you , this process repeated for the remainder of the day .
Stare at something , he notes it down .
Soon , he tells you that he has to go do something and for you to wait for him at the fountain in the mall .
As you wait , you realize he’s taking a particularly long time , and when you turn around to search for him , your eyes widened when you see a butler carry 17 bags of clothing and jewelry as Aventurine just smiles at you.
As you stare at the bags , you faint .
Those things were at least over 100,000 credits a piece! Nevermind 17 bags of them!
Before even one second passed , Aventurine grasped your waist and held you against him while you were unconscious. He laughed as he looked at your face . “ Must’ve been too much huh sweetheart.”
“ Don’t worry , I’ll give you whatever you want for the rest of my life .”

“I couldn’t explain it. When I saw them, I could barely pay attention to the woman we were interviewing. I just… knew I needed them.”
Mulder’s eyes snap to her, “Oh my god, Scully, did you steal these?”
read/listen to kind of perfect chapter two on ao3, or below the cut!
Nothing changes really, not yet.
They make an appointment at the courthouse for a Wednesday afternoon, with plans to make it a late lunch break. Mulder gets the marriage license while Scully is elbow deep in an autopsy (literally) and he's bored of staring at the walls of the basement office.
They still go on cases. Scully still shows up to the office some mornings to find a plane ticket on Mulder’s desk, and him behind it. They still say goodnight five feet apart, at the doors of adjacent motel rooms. It’s normal. Except for the fact that they’re planning an illicit wedding in the background.
There’s a case in Pittsburgh where people feel urged to do things they only let themselves dream of. For every violent murder with a clear motive and confessed killer, there’s a happy couple walking down the street who found themselves pushed together after years of pining.
Mulder calls it witchcraft. Scully calls it a water contaminant. It’s all very routine.
Their investigation takes them to an antique mall outside the city, as labyrinthine as any. They wander through the precariously stacked furniture and tchotchkes, Scully running her hand over books, dishware, and photos passed down through many owners and wondering about where they’ve all been, what they’ve seen.
Scully adores antique stores. She’s always felt a kind of love in them. The energy of so many cherished possessions in one place is the only kind of magic she’s come close to believing in.
They’re interviewing the owner of a jewelry booth when she sees it. A tiny wood box in the glass case separating them from the witness that Scully isn’t paying nearly enough attention to. What lays in the velvet lining enraptures her, she can’t take her eyes off of it. Mulder’s touch on her lower back rouses her from her trance.
“Whaddya think, Scully?”
“Hmm?” She breaks her eyes away from the case and looks back up at him. He’s waiting for her opinion. She realizes she zoned out for most of the interview, and turns back to the woman across the glass case. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I must’ve been distracted. You have some beautiful pieces here, ma’am.”
“Ohh, shiny.” Mulder teases. Scully rolls her eyes.
“Oh, shut up Mulder.
“Mrs. Landingham was just telling us about the vendor upstairs, who gives her the heebie geebies. He sells a bunch of dolls.”
“Well that’s not hard. Antique dolls even give me the… heebie geebies sometimes.”
Mulder laughs, and they go on with the interview. When they continue on through the antique mall, they split up, and Scully finds herself looping back around to the glass case from before.
“How much for that?” She asks, pointing to the little box. She doesn’t even hear the price, just grabs her checkbook from her coat pocket. The woman smiles at her.
“You have someone special, dear?”
“I… it’s complicated.”
“Hmm. If you’re buying them that, it’s probably not as complicated as you think.”
Scully just hands her the check and slips the box into the inside pocket of her jacket. Mulder catches up with her a couple rows away.
“Hey, where have you been? I thought we were looking at the third floor?”
“I was… looking for the bathroom,” She lies, “Did you find something?”
“Yeah, the booth Mrs. Landingham mentioned is, in fact, creepy as hell. I’ve never seen so many dolls in one place, Scully. And it had a vibe.”
“A vibe?”
“Yeah, a weird one.”
“Let's go check it out together.”
His hand brushes her lower back and he guides her to the stairs.
***
They solve the case, burn the dolls. Apparently every victim of their own impulsivity had purchased one a couple days before they started acting differently. She stows the box in the glovebox of her car, and forgets about it until they’re on their way back to DC.
Mulder is, naturally, babbling.
“Honestly, I’m surprised neither of us were affected.”
Scully tenses behind the wheel.
“Right, Scully?”
She bites her lip.
“Scully? Were you –”
“Check the glovebox.” She blurts before she can think twice about it.
He leans forward, and pulls out the tiny box. When he glances at her, she nods, and he opens it. When he sees the contents, he lets out a little “Oh.”
In the box, in a sea of maroon velvet, lay two nearly identical gold rings. The only difference between them is a swell and a small diamond in the center of one of the eight-pointed star engravings adorning both bands.
She watches out of the corner of her eye as he runs a finger delicately along the engravings of the larger ring.
“I couldn’t explain it. When I saw them, I could barely pay attention to the woman we were interviewing. I just… knew I needed them.”
Mulder’s eyes snap to her, “Oh my god, Scully, did you steal these?”
“What? No!” She looks away from the road to give him an incredulous look. “I paid for them, I just bought them impulsively. I’m sorry, I should’ve asked you first. We haven’t talked about rings, and it’s probably a bad idea to wear them to work so there isn’t much of a point–”
“No they’re… they’re kind of perfect, Scully. Thank you.” He sounds almost breathless.
“Of course. I’m… I’m glad you like them.”
Mulder manages to shut up for a good chunk of their drive.
***
Mulder slaps his pen on the desk in frustration. Damn expense reports. He pinches the bridge of his nose in an attempt to make his growing headache subside.
Scully looks up at him over her glasses. Takes him in. She closes the file open in front of her and stands. “C’mon, Mulder. Let’s take a long lunch, I think we both need a break.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice.” They both don their jackets, Scully grabs her purse, and they whisk out of the building.
Mulder really, really should have asked where they were going before agreeing.
He finds himself in the boyfriend chair of a nearby Macy’s, watching Scully try on a series of dresses and suits. They aren't things he’s used to seeing her in. It’s not much more exciting to him than the expense reports, though it is less headache-inducing. So he sits and watches, leaned forward with his elbows on his knees, fingers fiddling with the hair tie still wrapped around his left ring finger.
People have asked about the hair tie, of course. Sometimes it’s on his finger, sometimes just on his wrist. He tells them that Scully’s break sometimes, and it’s best to have a backup. Like he’s just that good of a partner, and the hair tie isn’t one of his most cherished possessions.
Breaking his train of thought, Scully steps out of the stall in what she would describe as an ivory cocktail dress with an eggshell lace overlay, and what Mulder would call a white dress.
“It’s not very you.” He says. She agrees, and steps back into the stall to try on the next one.
“What are we even doing here, Scully?”
“I need to find something for the wedding, and I don't have time to go to a traditional bridal salon.”
She steps out in a white pantsuit, shoulder pads and all.
Mulder slaps a hand over his eyes. “What the hell, Scully! Are you crazy? I can’t see you in your wedding dress before the wedding, that’s bad luck.”
“In our sham marriage?” She laughs, “C’mon Mulder, you don’t actually believe that, do you?”
“Do I believe in a superstition? Who do you think you’re talking to?”
“That’s a good point.” She approaches him and peels his hand off his eyes anyway. “Please, Mulder. I don’t want to do this by myself, and I just can’t ask Skinner.” His eyes go directly to hers, crinkled at the corners from her humored smile, then drift downwards to take in her outfit.
“Not that one,” he says, “It looks too much like something you’d wear to work.”
She huffs a laugh and retreats to change again. When she steps out, she’s in a slip dress with silver embroidered flowers.
“No.” He says immediately.
“No? So now you’re a stylist?”
“The rings are gold and that one has silver. I might know nothing about fashion, but I know that that’s against the rules.”
“Good eye, Mulder.” She retreats again.
“So why're you taking me wedding dress shopping, anyway? Why not your girlfriends, or your mom?”
“No one knows we're getting married. I haven’t even told my mom, she’d insist we make it into a whole event, and wouldn't keep it quiet. And even if people did know, I spend all my time on cases with you, so I'm somewhat lacking in the girlfriends department, or at least ones I’m close enough with to invite wedding shopping.” she pauses. “I always thought I'd do it with Melissa, but that’s… not an option”
“I'm so sorry, Scully. She should be here.”
“I know. “
She steps out in another dress. They agree that it’s too lacy. Back to the stall.
“I'd probably ask you to come shopping even if I was marrying someone else.” Something like distaste blooms in his chest at the thought. He ignores it.
“Really? I mean, you said it yourself, I'm not exactly fashion forward.”
“Of course. You're my best friend. I value your opinion.”
She steps out in another dress, this one simple, tight, and silky, with thin straps and a deep back. She does a little twirl. She does not giggle.
She sees Mulder’s eyebrows shoot up as his mouth opens. If he were in a cartoon, Scully is sure there would be a bubble with AWOOGA just above his face.
“Holy shit, Scully.” He stands and approaches her. Her face is so bright, so open.
“Yeah?”
“You look amazing.”
“Thank you.” She goes in for a hug, which Mulder accepts. He buries his face in her hair.
“You’re my best friend too, Scully.” She just hugs him tighter. “But if this turns out to be a disaster, I’m totally blaming you for making me see the dress before the big day.”
She laughs and they separate, but only by a few inches. His hands move to her neck, his thumbs framing her face.
“So, that’s the one?”
She smiles up at him and nods. “Yeah. It is.”
The smile they share is softer than any other.
She goes to change back into her work clothes, and he offers to bring the car around. Before leaving the store, he manages to hunt down the dress on the rack and stop at the cashier to leave a check with them, telling the girl behind the counter that it was for the suit-clad redhead about to exit the dressing rooms.
“You didn’t have to pay for the dress, Mulder.” She says as she climbs into the car, “But thank you.”
“You paid for the rings,” He reasons, “it’s only fair.”
“Still. I appreciate it.”
“You’re welcome.”
The outing takes longer than their lunch hour, but no one seems to notice.

(Mammon x MC/Reader)
Prompt: "She doesn't compare to you. No one does.”
Genre: Angst, hurt(emotional)/comfort.
Pairing: GN!MC/Reader x Mammon
Summary: You and Mammon finally get to enjoy a well-deserving shopping trip just between the two of you. Just as you are about to hit the next shop, your attention is caught by an image advertised in the street.
Warnings: N/A
A/N: I wanted to try my hands at a prompt that is tagged as "fluff", but of course I ended up turning it into something angsty instead. But I like sad stuff, so that still works for me.
-------------------------------------------
It wasn't often that you got to spend time with Mammon without having any of his brothers around to bother you. But you had made it very clear to them that these few hours after school would be spent with Mammon, and only him. And for today's trip, you two had decided to go shopping in one of the busiest streets in the Devildom.
Clothes and jewelry stores, malls- you had done them all. When most of this time had been spent doing window shopping, Mammon had still insisted on getting at least a few bags of purchased goods for each of you by the end of the day. After all, what was the point of going on a shopping trip, if you didn't end up emptying your bank account only to regret it later?
And so, thanks to the demon's wonderful influence, your arms had now several bags hanging off of them. There was a certain guilt still looming over your head as you realized way overboard you might have gotten with your purchases, but Mammon promised he would take care of any financial problems you could encounter in the near future because of that. You still wondered how he was going to manage it, him being Mammon and all...
"Damn, now THAT'S what I call a good haul! Look at ya!" The white-haired demon grinned as he watch you hop out of the store, the glass doors opening automatically at your presence to let you out. He placed his wrists on his hips as his own bags dangled in his hands. "What'cha got for yourself this time?"
"They actually had that jacket I saw in a magazine the other day!" The doors closed behind you as you showed the white bag which contained the jacket. "You were right, that store was amazing. I can't believe you never showed it to me before."
"Ha! Told ya the Great Mammon knew where the best treasures were! Consider it an exclusive info, because I ain't gonna share more if any of my brothers are around next time." Mammon turned around before flipping a few of his bags over his shoulder, as you instantly began to trot to get to his level.
"What? So all this time you knew about it and you didn't tell me? Just because Asmo comes with us sometimes?" You expressed shock, right before your eyebrows joined together. "Really, as if you couldn't have told me over text or something."
"And have you go without me?! Nah, ain't gonna happen- you'd just get lost and end up in the worst store possible." Mammon glanced your way, and you could only smirk at his poor excuse.
"Sure, you're right. I forgot that humans don't have the same flawless sense of orientation as demons do." Despite your obviously sarcastic tone, Mammon didn't seem to register it as he nodded at your words.
"Exactly! Even if I gave you the full address, who knows where you'd end up? I don't want ya to come and complain to me afterwards, so it's gotta be with me or nothin'."
Even as you rolled your eyes, you noticed Mammon's face slightly turning away from yours, probably to hide the extra shade of color that had appeared on his cheeks ever so discreetly. Even when he was in his usual tsundere mood, it was endearing to see how concerned he was for your safety. And just how badly he wanted to be alone with you.
"So, where to next?" You asked without really thinking, surprising yourself that even after your extensive purchasing, you still wanted to do more. Or maybe it was that you didn't want this date to end right away. The past few weeks had been nothing but the brothers interrupting each other when any of them found themselves alone with you, so getting to spend some alone time with one of them, especially with Mammon, deserved to be extended a bit more.
"Glad ya asked!" As if a battery had been plugged into him, the demon brandished his arm into the air, the bags swinging by his face and missing him by a few inches. "I got this whole place where they're sellin' tons of stuff for pretty cheap, but it's actually authentic branded things. See, they're actually sold to that one guy who then has to sell them to another guy, and..."
As you listened to Mammon explain how he was able to find "authentic stuff" (probably not that authentic, you were pretty sure about that) for less than a quarter of its original price, your eyes found themselves drifting to an impressive ad plastered on a building the two of you were walking by. Recognizing the habit of Majolish to put their models on display for everyone to see was pretty easy, but that wasn't what caught your eye in the moment.
What tuned Mammon down completely in your ears, were the models themselves. The second born, sitting on a stool with a ripped shirt and pants, a few accessories hanging off his neck and barely covering anything of his exposed chest. He looked serious, staring straight at the objective- and at you, while the light shined on him to completely capture his frame for the picture.
And sitting down in the middle of the shot, between his legs, was a female demon wearing a red leather dress, her head resting on top of Mammon's leg. The clawed hand dangling off his knee- covered in golden rings, seemed to taunt you, as well as the piercing yellow eyes she had. Saying she wasn't beautiful would be lying. In fact, she was absolutely stunning. A perfect model for a perfect shot. Just looking at her made you feel small, like a prey that was about to be devoured by a hungry beast, the longer you were looking at her.
But that's what demons were supposed to make you feel like, right?
"Hey!" Mammon called out from the distance he had put between the two of you since you had stopped walking beside him. "Yo, MC!"
Watching as you kept staring into nothing, Mammon rolled his shoulders with a furrowed brow before walking back toward you, his head tilting to the side as he noticed your dead expression.
"Huuh hello, Devildom to MC? In which realm did ya get lost this time?"
"They replaced it." The words that left your mouth were weak, almost too silent for him to hear. It's as if all of the energy you had had evaporated from your body in an instant.
"Huh?" Mammon grew a bit concerned at this sudden change. His eyes perked up at the ad you were looking at, as you continued.
"The shoot we did together." Finally, you spared yourself from the sight, your gaze dropping to the ground. "They already replaced it with another one."
As soon as Mammon understood why *this* ad in particular seemed to be upsetting you so much, his jaw was already clenching. He remembered the stars he had seen in your eyes the previous week when you saw yourself on the Majolish ad, posing beside him- a shoot opportunity you had gotten while accompanying him after RAD a few days prior. In the middle of his shoot, he practically didn't leave any choice to his agent and had insisted that you be included in the shots to promote one of the new pieces of jewelry the brand was planning to release in the upcoming months. Asmo, who was there to witness your reaction on that day the three of you went out, had even taken a hundred pictures or so of you posing in front of the ad.
Except that, the jewelry you had posed with, was now present on the new model posing alongside Mammon.
He had made sure to engrave that smile of yours in his head at the time, even going so far as to snap a picture of your face while you were too focused on Asmo to notice him. But now, there was absolutely no trace of that same happiness anymore.
"The fuck?" The snarl that left him shook the walls of his throat. "That wasn't supposed to be advertised before another month! Why'd they have to take ours so soon?!"
"It's okay, Mammon." The demon stopped growling as his eyes lowered on the hand that was clutching his arm. "I mean... I'm not a model. Figures they wouldn't put it up for long... I-I mean, look at me. Seriously, who would want to see my face being exposed for longer than they can bare? It's hard to imagine. I wouldn't probably have sold their product anyway, so... it's okay."
The look on your face was devastating. Despite trying your best to smile, the tears pricking in your eyes were threatening to roll down your cheeks at any second. Mammon felt his heart being stabbed with a thousand invisible daggers, he couldn't bear to watch you feeling insulted in such a way.
His bags were immediately dropped onto the floor, the demon no longer caring for any of the fragile items he may have bought. His hands swung forward to cup your cheeks, forcing your face up to look at him straight in the eyes.
"Hey hey, MC. C'mon, look at me."
You did your best not to let your vision turn blurry because of the upcoming tears, and stared back at Mammon, your bottom lip trembling weakly.
"I don't care what anyone, model agents or not, can say- you'd sell a thousand more times than any fuckin' models out there, okay? In fact, you're worth even more than their stupid jewelry!"
His thumb quickly brushed away a tear from the corner of your eye as his other hand came to rest on your temple.
"They just put that one up there because that model is famous. They don't care about what's really beautiful, they just want to boast their popularity to the rest of the world." The blue of his eyes seemed to radiate the closer he moved towards you. "But I know what's beautiful. And her? She doesn't compare to you. No one does."
You could only look down in shame as his hands never left you, closing your eyes shut to let a couple tears out before Mammon grabbed a tissue from his pocket to dry your face. He patiently waited a few seconds for you to calm down, soothing you with slow caresses of your hair until your shoulders stopped shaking.
"I'm sorry..." you muttered, sniffling as you passed a wrist over your eyes. "I don't know why that upset me so much..."
"Ya got nothing to be sorry about." Mammon retrieved his hands from your head, only to grab the bags that were hanging off of your arms. He somehow manages to hold them alongside his own behind him, before wrapping the other arm around your shoulder.
"Hey, I'd call this a day. How about I prepare ya a bath when we're home? Courtesy of the Great Mammon."
You nodded, your lips arching into a smile as you grabbed the hand hanging off your shoulder. The day was cut too short for your liking, but you didn't feel up for any additional purchases, or to properly enjoy your outing anymore.
"Will you wash my hair?" You entertwined your fingers with his as he gave them a gentle squeeze.
"Pah, of course! Who else but me could do that?" He huffed through his nose, shaking his head at such an obvious question. Your laugh ringing in his ears gave him a brief moment of respite.
But the demon furrowed his brows as he lead you into your walk back home, keeping you snuggled at his side. Holding the bags in his left hand, his white nails sharply digged into his palm the more steps he took alongside you.
Making them cry? Such a big, big mistake. One thing was sure, Mammon wasn't about to let that one pass.
"But before that..." The hiss that escaped his throat went unnoticed by the two of you as your head rested against his shoulder.
"I'll have a few calls to make."

Fabric Hearts
Remember the first part of that build-a-bear au I wrote for @smieska-draws? It’s back! But now the au name makes sense! Imagine!
Luka, known as the Snatcher to most of the mall locals, runs the Kraft-a-Kid while his daughter, Hattie, runs around with her friends. There’s definitely nothing suspicious about Luka. The rumors that he snatches the souls of children and stuffs them into the dolls are completely unfounded. Probably. Most likely. Don’t worry about it, I’m sure it’s fine.
This is, of course, another au that Smieska and I both developed and like to swap ideas for SO send her your love and adulation because I couldn’t have written this without her ;o; <333 Here’s the link to the piece she did for first part if you haven’t seen it yet (which u should because it’s fabulous and incredible). Without further ado, here it is!
Words: 4,131
The door squeaked open as Luka recorded the number of tiny, elastic collars with bright bells in the back.
“Dimitri can’t make it today,” he warned without looking up from his clipboard. His golden gaze flickered up towards the boxes filled with cotton stuffing and he quickly counted them as footsteps approached. “If you get a sudden influx of customers, come grab me.”
“It’s me, Dad,” Hattie’s voice came from right beside him.
“Did I stutter?” He glanced down without missing a beat. She gave him a deadpan stare as he grinned. His sharp canines glinted in the unnaturally bright florescent lights. “Come on, kiddo. How about you help me with my business endeavors instead of frittering away your summer romping around the mall?”
She readjusted the brim of the top hat she made from her millinery lessons at the fabric store. Why his child fixated on hat-making out of everything she could have taken an interest in was beyond him but even he had to admit her royal purple top hat was well crafted.
“I’m going with Belle and the others to get lunch at the food court,” she said, ignoring his jesting. “Can I have money?”
“You know if you had a job you wouldn’t need to be asking me,” he lamented dramatically before wedging the clipboard between his arm and side. He reached for his wallet in the back pocket of his slacks.
“I’m not even twelve.” She blinked up at him with large blue eyes. “There are child labor laws.”
“Excellent.” He nodded, opening his wallet. “Don’t let anyone in the mall convince you otherwise. But,” he slipped out a bill and gave her a pointed look, “if you accept this, you have to do me a favor.”
“I already cleaned the bathrooms last weekend,” she whined.
His grin widened.
“Tough luck, kiddo.” He twisted the bill in the air, watching her nose scrunch as she seriously weighed her options. After a second of letting her think that she was going to have to do her least favorite chore, he extended the bill towards her. “Just bring me back a coffee and I’ll consider us even.”
Relief instantly flooded her features as she took the bill.
“I can do that! Your usual?” She headed towards the door.
“That’ll work,” he said, tucking away his wallet and grabbing the clipboard again.
“Thanks, Dad!” she chirped before moving to open the door.
Just as she reached for it, the door swung open, and she stumbled back. Luka immediately dropped the clipboard and slipped behind her with the speed of shadows dodging the light. She smacked into his legs, and he placed a steadying hand on her shoulder as Alex walked in with wide eyes.
“I’m so sorry, kid! I didn’t see you there.” Alex winced, looking from Hattie to Luka’s hard glare.
“I’m fine!” Hattie promised, giving a bright smile until she placed her hand over Luka’s fingers. She jolted and twisted around. “Dad, are you okay? You’re really warm.”
“It is hot in here.” Alex tugged at their collar, wincing.
“The thermostat dial was probably nudged,” Luka dismissed, pulling away and stooping to grab the clipboard. “I’ll take a look.”
“Should I get you water?” Hattie asked.
“I have water. Now go have fun.” He shooed her towards the door. “The sooner you leave the sooner you can run my errand.”
Hattie hesitated but when he returned to his task of recording inventory, he heard her retreating footsteps.
“Sorry,” Alex muttered as they crossed over to the table for the employees. They dropped their backpack before grabbing the light purple apron with their nametag.
“Let’s just be careful with how forcefully we open doors, hm? I don’t want to deal with any workplace liability cases. They’re a pain.” Luka shot the teen a toothy grin. Glancing back down to the clipboard, he added in a more monotone cadence, “Anyway, Dimitri can’t come today, so once Ember leaves, it’ll just be you and me for the rest of the day. If it gets too crowded on the floor and I’m not around, come find me.”
“Right.” They nodded firmly. While wiping back their bangs and smearing the beads of sweat on their brow, they hurried out. Once the door closed behind them and Luka was alone, he let out a sigh.
The flame that had flared when Hattie nearly got hit crackled noisily in his otherwise empty chest. Luka placed one of his pale hands over the flame and counted out the seconds between metered inhales and exhales. The snap and pop of embers faded and when he glanced towards the thermostat, the temperature in the room lowered back to a comfortable range.
Not that he was bothered by the heat, but he didn’t need his employees passing out.
Ember’s shift ended as he got to counting the unstuffed plush shells. As she hung her apron over the hook, she informed him that two separate groups had just entered the store. Luka nodded, finishing his current count before getting ready to help Alex on the floor.
He brushed back his long, spiky hair into a ponytail. Stray strands the color of soot fluttered against his cheek, and he tucked them behind his ear.
They reflected a warm violet when they caught the light.
With his hair as contained as he could manage, he grabbed his own amethyst apron with the Kraft-a-Kid’s signature logo; a stylized baby goat and parent goat waving a friendly greeting. After draping it over his black suit and making sure it didn’t displace his dark purple tie, he tied the apron with nimble fingers, clawed at the tips. He double-checked that the pocket had extra thread and a compact sewing kit before he clipped on his name tag and headed out into the workshop.
Alex snapped their head up from one of the stuffing stations, looking relieved when they spotted Luka rounding the counter. Alex returned their full attention to the small girl and her mother while Luka smiled at the two teens with a younger child hovering by the bins of unstuffed shells by the entrance.
While he didn’t know them personally, he recognized Brooke and her younger sister Hali, who worked (or in Hali’s case just hovered around in the back when not at daycare) at their uncle’s travel agency, and then Makoto, who worked at the jewelry store. Judging from their uniforms, the teens were probably using their breaks to accompany Hali. Since he often heard good things about their work ethic and Hali’s sweet nature from Mari, he assumed he had an easy session ahead. He waved them over.
Brooke and Makoto shared a nervous look while Hali bounded over with a bright smile.
“Why, hello there!” Luka pasted on his most vibrant customer service smile as he lowered onto the seat by the stuffing station. Cotton and soft fibers filled the glass tank decorated to look like hearty trees and branches climbed around the edges. The machine itself matched the lilac walls and brown and bronze gears that decorated them. The bins and shelves that held the merchandise throughout the store were all structured to look like spools of golden thread.
Holding an unstuffed goat with dark brown fuzz and silver horns, Hali shyly smiled up at Luka as Brooke and Makoto slowly joined.
“I see you’ve picked your new friend!” Luka held out his hands and Hali gingerly lowered the flat goat into his palms. “Before we bring them to life, how stuffed do you want them to be?”
“Um?” Hali tilted her head with a blank expression.
“Do you want them to be firm or squishy?” Luka clarified, fitting the goat around the nozzle and getting his foot ready over the pedal.
“Fiwm, pwease!” Hali declared in a cutesy voice.
“Excellent choice!” Luka set to work, pumping the pedal as he filled out the head of the goat plush. The machine roared to life, blowing air and fluff with the force of a vacuum. Though, his ears perked when he caught Brooke and Makoto in an intense discussion as they remained a couple steps back. What he couldn’t hear over the machine, he pieced together easily enough.
He knew the rumors and could guess what was on their mind when they mentioned the Snatcher and stolen souls.
Luka smirked as he pulled his foot from the pedal and the machine hushed.
“Now it’s time for my favorite part.” He beamed, pulling off the firmly stuffed goat and then reaching for a bucket full of small felt hearts. “The soul ceremony! Go ahead and pick the heart that most resonates with you.”
“If it’s just a heart, why is it called a soul ceremony?” Brooke asked, her voice quivering as she pressed closer to Makoto.
Hali, meanwhile, was completely enraptured with picking out the right fabric heart.
“Hearts, souls, same thing, really,” Luka soothed with a toothy grin, giving the teens a considering look.
Makoto’s gaze flickered down to his fangs. She lifted her chin, trying to project an air of confidence. But her furrowed brows wavered.
“Souws awe heawts?” Hali gasped, looking up with awe.
“Absolutely!” Luka kept his voice cheerful, gesturing to the bucket. “It’s what gives your new friend life! I imagine without one, they would feel pretty empty and hollow.” Keeping his chin tilted down, he lifted his eyes towards the teens and lowered his voice just a touch. “Wouldn’t you feel pretty soulless without a heart?”
The two stiffened.
“Pwobabwy!” Hali chirped, completely unaware of their increasing unease. She dug around the hearts and pursed her lips. “How do woo know which heawt is the best?”
“That’s up to you!” Luka bounced effortlessly back into an upbeat cadence. He pinched a heart with a checkerboard pattern in red and white. “The nice thing about these hearts is that they’re blank slates. They’ll be filled with whatever you put into them. But don’t put in too much!” he added with a chuckle. “Wouldn’t want your new friend to be more you than you!”
Brooke squeaked in fright and his grin stretched.
“I wiwl take this one, then!” Hali held up a solid red heart.
“Great! Hold on to it, now.” Luka placed the tub back down. “First, why don’t you rub the heart on your hair so your little buddy will always have soft fur!”
Hali beamed at that and rubbed the fabric heart on her hair. When she pulled it back down, some of the blond strands followed the heart while the strands too far away stuck up from the lingering static.
“Well done! Now, rub it against your funny bone so your friend has a sense of humor.” Luka tapped his elbow when Hali crinkled her nose for a moment. Her eyes lit up in understanding and once the heart was granted good humor, Luka added, “and why don’t you strike a superhero pose, so that your pal will hold courage.”
Hali giggled as she placed her hands on her hips and preened.
“Fantastic. Lastly, I want you to rub the heart between your palms!” Luka motioned for her to mimic him as he demonstrated. “Now, when it’s nice and warm, give it a clap to start its heartbeat!”
The clap resounded through the workshop and the teens jolted behind her.
“That should do it,” Luka praised, holding out his palm. Hali handed the heart over, and he slipped it into the goat, tucking it snuggly away in the cotton and fluff.
He then set to filling out the rest of the plush. Once it was stiff and sturdy, he handed it to her, asking if she was content with it. When he received an enthusiastic nod, he took it back and sealed the hole. He snipped the extra thread with the scissors in his apron and then passed the goat back to Hali.
“Here’s your new friend! Be sure to visit our shop in the back! We have plenty of accessories and outfits for the newest member of your family,” Luka recited the same sales pitch as always. “Once you’re ready, head over to an open kiosk so you can fill out the adoption papers. If you need any help, Alex or I will be overjoyed to assist.”
“Thank woo!” Hali hurried over to the accessories, hugging the goat to her chest.
Luka clasped his hands and turned to the teens. When his gaze flickered to the floppy hooded doll in Makoto’s arms, her embrace tightened.
“Ready?” He motioned for her to hand it over so that he could stuff it.
She looked to Brooke, who shrugged with uncertainty. Makoto stepped forward.
Keeping his tone light, he went through the same script as always. He asked if she wanted the doll to be firm or squishy and, in an effort to loosen her up a bit, offered to add any fun sound boxes or scents to the plush. She remained on edge until he asked about the nametag on her uniform as the machine roared to life again. She explained how her boss liked to give everyone themed nicknames and she was saddled with “Makoneko.” When he asked if she appreciated the nickname, she pointedly rolled her eyes as he removed his foot from the machine pedal again. Her shoulders relaxed when he chuckled.
“Your turn to pick a heart,” Luka twittered in an overly cheerful voice as he held out the bucket.
“Do I have to do the ceremony?” Makoto hesitated, plucking the first heart she saw. Rather than scared, her bored expression mirrored that of many teens who wanted to skip the step.
Perfect.
“I wouldn’t recommend it.” He shrugged casually. “What is a heart without a heartbeat? A soul without a person behind the personality?”
“What?” She faltered, shoulders slowly stiffening again as Brooke’s eyes widened.
“I only mean it’ll be a sorry existence for this little friend.” Luka waved the stubby hands of the purple plush toy. “And you get out what you put in.” Her brows dipped in slight confusion, and he smirked. “You have to at least start its heartbeat. You don’t want to bring a ghost home, do you?”
“Just do the ceremony!” Brooke hissed through clenched teeth.
“F-fine,” Makoto said, slowly lifting the heart to her long black locks. “So, hair for soft fur?”
“Does it look like this one has fur?” Luka gestured to the doll with the yellow spiral in its hood. He scoffed, turning up his nose. “Of course not! No. First, why don’t you rub the heart against your belly so that it’s full of laughter.”
“I thought that was the elbow.” Makoto crinkled her nose. Though she rubbed the heart against her stomach, eager to get it over with.
“There is a difference between telling good jokes and laughing at them, kiddo,” Luka offered with a smirk. “Now, how about you jump up and down a few times? I’m sure your friend would love to share some of your energy.”
“What does that mean?” She jolted.
“Just that exercise keeps the heart healthy,” Luka said placidly.
Her eyes narrowed but she eventually gave a sluggish skip.
“Then, rub it against your ear, so it will always listen.” He smiled brightly, being sure to bare his teeth. Once she complied, he clasped his hands together. “I’m sure you know what to do now! Warm it between your palms and then clap to start the heartbeat!”
She let out the breath that she had been holding, relieved it was finally over. She gave a small clap before passing the heart back. He slipped it into the doll.
“Any names in mind for your friend?” Luka prompted as his foot tapped the pedal.
“I don’t know,” she mumbled curtly, purposefully trying to let the whirling air in the stuffing machine drown out her answer.
“How’s this feel?” he asked a few seconds later when the machine hushed again. He pulled the doll from the nozzle and passed it back to her.
“Good.” She returned it after assessing the squishiness.
“If you haven’t got any names, I always thought these particular dolls looked like minions,” he prattled, closing the seam. When she didn’t respond, he continued lightly, “so Minion might be a good name.” He glanced up to meet her gaze and lowered his tone. “You did make sure it’ll listen. It’ll be an obedient little kiddo.”
Her breath hitched.
“Obedient to who?” she challenged, maintaining a fragile glare.
“All done!” Luka snapped upright after snipping the excess thread, pretending he hadn’t heard her question. “Welcome your friend into the world!”
Makoto accepted the doll, her gaze flickering between it and Luka with uncertainty.
“Same as always,” he droned in his peppy, customer service voice. “Browse to your contentment. My daughter recommends the plush purple cherries. You want to keep your buddy happy and fed! Make sure to finalize the adoption and meet Alex or I by the counter.” He glanced over to find the other young girl with her mother already at the cash register. “Looks like it’ll be Alex!”
Makoto nodded numbly as Brooke stepped forward and looped her arm through hers, rescuing Makoto by tugging her away.
“One more thing,” Luka began, keeping his eyes on his clean-up routine. The teens’ footsteps paused as they hovered. Though his smile laced his voice, his enunciation was sharp. “I’m sure the Snatcher doesn’t have to tell you but be sure to treat your new friend as you would yourself. You put your soul into bringing them to life, after all.”
The teens gasped.
“Have a good day, kids.” Laughter laced his voice.
They rushed away as he chuckled.
While he finished cleaning up, Hattie returned with her friends. As soon as she spotted him behind the stuffing machine, she rushed across the tiles decorated to look vaguely like a forest path.
“Here’s your coffee,” she chirped, holding up the cup.
“Any plans for the rest of the day?” he asked, pushing to his feet and picking stray fluff from his apron. Once he was as clean as he was going to get, he accepted the drink. He held it towards his lips, pausing to quirk a brow at young Muriel and Timmy as they passed the stuffing machines to check out all the colorful outfits. Belle, meanwhile, joined Hattie with her azure bow bouncing in her dark coils.
“We’re going to head to the bookstore.” Hattie shrugged. “Tim’s friend is hosting a card game tournament.”
“Remember to be back by six,” he instructed. “Don’t go snacking after four or you’ll spoil your dinner.”
“I know, Dad,” she huffed dramatically.
“Also, Mom says hi, Mr. Kingsley,” Belle pipped in.
“Tell Mari I return the sentiment. Now get your friends to stop loitering.” He turned back towards Hattie and rose his voice so Timmy and Mu could hear. “They scare away customers.”
“Says the Snatcher,” Timmy whispered to Mu.
Luka covered his smirk with the coffee cup. His gaze shifted over Hattie and Belle and he watched as Makoto and Brooke fled the store at a brisk pace. Hali struggled to keep up, but she managed to meet his eyes and offered a cheerful wave.
“Fine,” Hattie sighed. “Come on, guys!”
“I need to stop by Mom’s before we head to the bookstore,” Belle mentioned as she and Hattie turned to leave. “I left my cards with my backpack.”
As the girls left, Luka turned to head back towards the counter, taking a sip of his coffee. He immediately winced.
“Ugh, tepid,” he grumbled as Timmy and Mu ran past, hurrying out to follow Hattie and Belle.
After making sure the kids all had their backs turned and Alex was busy with something on the counter, Luka summoned a gentle ember to his hand. While the flame harmlessly licked the cup, the coffee warmed inside until steam wafted from the hole in the lid. He took a tentative sip and swallowed the scalding liquid.
The flames in his chest crackled and popped, and the knots in his shoulders eased.
He snuffed out the ember in his hand as he lowered the cup. Mist trailed from the lid as the coffee maintained its heat.
“I think you scarred those two for life,” Alex muttered as Luka returned to the counter.
“Which two?” he asked, mind still on Hattie and her friends.
“Brooke and Makoto.” Alex glanced up, shaking their head with a scolding expression.
“I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary,” Luka said calmly. He leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee during his momentary break. “If those hooligans are letting their imaginations run wild, it’s not on my conscience.”
“Uh-huh.” Alex gave him an unimpressed look. “Also, I think we’re running low on the beach ball accessories.”
“I noticed,” Luka muttered, swirling his cup pensively. “Those aren’t particularly popular, and we are getting near the end of the season…”
While they discussed whether they needed to send out an order or if they would make it until the fall selection came out, Hattie rolled on the balls of her feet as she, Timmy, and Mu waited for Belle to return from her mom’s flower shop just across from Kraft-a-Kid. Hattie idly watched all the mallgoers, thoughts blank, but Timmy and Mu had their eyes locked on Kraft-a-Kid, thoughts whirling noisier than the stuffing machines.
“Okay, I’m ready!” Belle announced as she bounced out with her deck of cards.
“Hattie.” Timmy whirled around. “Your dad’s magic!”
“Timmy, he doesn’t steal souls, we’ve been over this,” Hattie whined, crossing her arms.
“If he doesn’t steal souls, then what’s with his coffee?” Mu snapped, nodding her head towards the display window where Luka could be seen leaning against the counter inside the workshop.
Hattie squinted, trying to figure out what was out of place with the steaming coffee cup. After a moment, she turned to Belle, who shrugged.
“It’s hot!” Mu gestured wildly, causing her blond mustache to bob with her movement. “Look at that steam!”
Hattie blinked in disbelief.
“Yeah,” Belle supplied dryly. “Because Hattie ordered it hot.”
“But he said it was tepid!” Timmy argued. “We heard him!”
“He probably thinks it is,” Hattie said, knitting her brows together. “He likes his coffee hot enough to burn his tastebuds.”
“You aren’t getting it!” Mu huffed. “It wasn’t steaming when he said it was cold!”
“Okay, but even if he somehow heated it up, that didn’t have anything to do with stealing souls,” Belle appeased.
“That’s what we mean!” Timmy urged. “If he can use one type of magic, he can use others!”
“I regret the day I told you about those rumors,” Hattie grumbled.
It didn’t matter as much when strangers said it, but instead of laughing with Hattie when she told them that people thought her dad was some kind of heartless, soul-snatching monster, Mu and Timmy had latched onto the conspiracy and ever since refused to let go. She couldn’t talk about new product plushies or designs around them anymore because they would just start a debate about which shell would best hold the souls of children.
“Look can we just get going?” She started walking in the direction of the bookstore and Belle matched her pace. Mu hurried to catch up as Timmy trailed behind, keeping a watchful eye on Kraft-a-Kid.
“Are you sure you haven’t seen anything weird?” Mu insisted. “Heard any screams of children he caught? Seen any dolls move in the corner of your eye?”
“You know he laughs like a cartoon villain?” Timmy added.
“The store is literally called Kraft-a-Kid!” Mu continued. “Open your eyes, Hattie!”
“Kid is just another word for baby goat!” Belle argued. “It’s cute!”
“We aren’t talking about this anymore!” Hattie snapped, tugging down on the brim of her hat. She turned away from them and focused on Belle. “So, what deck are you using? The one with fairy types? Or your cat themed one?”
“Both!” She grinned mischievously as she happily helped to redirect the conversation. “I combined them because I wanted to use all my favorites. How about you?”
“Going with the forest deck.” Hattie glanced up, where her deck was safely tucked away in the hidden compartment she stitched into the top hat.
Timmy and Mu huffed, letting their argument go as they pipped in with talking about their own decks. But it was only a matter of time before they started back on their theories about her dad’s supposed magic. Trying not to deflate too much, she kept her eyes forward. She swallowed her frustration and focused on the upcoming tournament.
Besides, even if her dad did have magic and only used it for heating up coffee, it hardly seemed something a heartless monster would do.
Right?

genre: fluff pairing: bakugou katsuki x fem!reader word count: 4.8k+ warnings: bakusquad shenanigans. bakugou cursing. pining.
author’s note: My Bakugou angst fic isn’t done yet but I wrote this request on the side. I wanted to have something to publish after not posting any written work for awhile so I did my best to get this out asap. sorry if it seems rushed! (also reposting this because the post stopped showing up in the tags).
Tumblr media
There are only a fair bit of things Bakugou loathes more than wasting his valuable time. And that includes wasting that time by getting dragged into public places he has no desire to be, alongside the four most senseless nitwits the boy has ever had the displeasure of befriending.
It feels less like a friend group to him and more of a gathering of idiots as he watches four out of the six huddle around the aisle of vending machines across the mall. Where’s the other one, you might ask? You’re standing right next to him, sipping a bottle of sweet lemon tea dispensed to you from those vending machines.
“Ooh, look at this one!” The other girl in his squad, styling unruly pink hair, pokes a finger toward a blue machine in particular. What she finds interesting about it is that it’s absent of all buttons except a single one above the coin slot.
“Says here that you only have to pay a hundred yen for a mystery item,” Sero reads the instructions printed boldly across the surface, his grin showing his pearly whites. “Can range from food to even toys and cheap plastic jewelry.”
Popping up behind his taller friend, Kaminari squints incredulously at the sign before his eyes brighten like he’s concocted a conspiracy. “No, dude, I’ve heard of these kinds of vending machines before! They want you to think it’s some ordinary convenience vending machine, but these things actually have some super-secret big prize hidden inside!”
“Uh, no, that’s how you get your money robbed from you, Kaminari,” Kirishima tells the blonde, and yet his warnings end up floating from one ear and flying out the other. Kaminari fishes out a small stash of coins taut in between the lint balls of his pockets.
“Yeah yeah, just wait until you eat those words when I come home with a Playstation 5!”
“Why would there be a Playstation 5 of all things in there?” Ashido asks skeptically. She notes the small slot near the bottom, appearing sizable to dispense a large water bottle at most.
“Okay, maybe not an actual PS5, but probably the voucher you take to the game store to retrieve one, of course!” He waves the doubt away as he kneels and begins his succession of slotting coins in the machine until agitation eventually ebbs his features. About five hundred yen down the drain and all he’s amounted with in exchange are two Gudetama keychains, two packets of off-brand oreo cookies, and one can of that cheap instant black coffee he dislikes. Though if it’s one thing, he and the drink have in common it’s that they’re both positively bitter.
Kirishima, Sero, and Ashido all snicker wryly behind him while he deadpans at the snotty series of prizes with the skin between his eyebrows crinkled in defeat. Ashido takes this as the time to move along the row, dragging her sullen blond friend by the elbow. “Moving on! I want to get to the one with the Yakult drinks already!” She points onward and leads her compadres down the treasure trove of intriguing automated food vendors. Two of the boys press forward enthusiastically. Kaminari has to be lugged out of his brooding in order to play along.
“God, please just take me out already,” Bakugou mutters while leering his signature miffed face behind them. According to the giggle he registers chiming to his left, it seems you heard his complaints.
“Hm, not having a good time, I’m guessing?” you ask. The metallic edge of your lemon tea creases into the cushion that is your plush bottom lip. Bakugou finds himself staring there longer than he should and immediately tears his eyes away before he’s caught.
Your playful tone throws him off a beat later than he should’ve taken to reply. “Of course. I didn’t even want to be here to begin with,” he sneers with a brisk click of his tongue, crossing his arms. In a sense, he’s only telling half of the truth.
It’s true Bakugou did not desire to be here on his own accord. The squad dared to call him at the dead of midnight, when he was already tucked into bed by nine o’clock sharp and indulging in a needed rest, only to be ruefully awoken by his phone blaring across the expanse of his dorm room. The four should’ve suffered an earful from him as they tried to arrange a shopping trip of all things at that hour. However, his disinterest in the subject withered at the bait of your name casted into the conversation. Which to them was hook, line, and sinker. The cunning group of friends reeled him in at the idea that his crush would tag along. So, in the end, they got the rowdy blond to yield to the stupid shopping trip.
Though could it count as a shopping trip when four out of the six in their group were so transfixed by the weird vending machines in the place? The same four that organized said gathering to begin with? They’ve yet to cross into a single store here for crying out loud.
“If all you morons are gonna do is waste your damn money on these things, then this is a complete waste of time.” Bakugou doesn’t sugarcoat his irritation in the slightest. You still try to quell the bitterness in his tone with the saccharine that saturates your own.
“Aw c’mon, Bakugou, lighten up,” you tease playfully, pinching a small bit of the fabric on his arm to lightly urge him forward.
“You should at least try and join in on the fun with everyone—” At the turn of your head, your sentence cuts off, astonished to come across an empty space where your quartet of friends should be.
“And they’re already gone…” you say in disbelief. Your finger initially pointed in that direction falls limp. With their speedy curiosity plowing down the line of machines, the four have effectively ditched you two, leaving no trace of where they could’ve taken off for next.
The sigh from your lips lingers in amusement. “Well, guess it’s just you and me, Bakugou.”
When your eyes meet him again, you witness the scowl he glares at the abandoned space in front of the vending machine. The leer is menacing enough that if the contraption were an actual person, they might have rattled in fear, dropping down the snacks and drinks contained inside to sate his anger.
“Um, Bakugou?” you attempt to call out to him, but he’s too fixated by the peeved thoughts strewn in his head to hear you properly.
What the fuck are those dunces thinking? They planned this, didn’t they? God, I’m going to fucking kill them all! He babbles a seething torrent in his mind. Each one is more unrelenting and harsher than the last while a vein blisters prominently on his forehead.
What were the odds that going on a little shopping trip would end up with him left behind with his crush? Well, Bakugou thinks it’s absolutely none, and that this shit had to be preordained. If not, then it was just his bad fucking luck he supposes.
“—llo, earth to Bakugou Katsuki? Please send back a reply when you receive this message.”
At last, your voice surfaces, no longer drowned in Bakugou’s turbulent sea of thoughts as the hand you wave in front of him swims its way to his attention. “Huh?” He shakes his head twice to grip himself back to the matter at hand, observing in time the playful smile that curls mischievously on your lips.
“All back together I see. Good.” You start pulling on his arm and lead him in tandem with your steps. “Now let’s get going!”
Though he quirks up an eyebrow, Bakugou, weirdly enough, does not reject the way you drag him along without waiting for his response. In fact, with the other four gone, he finds it compelling that you’re taking the reins and asks mildly, “What? Are we gonna be doing some actual shopping now?”
His joke earns him your laughter resonating in melodic lilts to his ears before you leave his side to toss your empty bottle into the recycling bin. “Nope, we’re gonna be doing something even more fun, of course!” Then you resume dragging Bakugou down the walkways of the mall.
It’s not long until he questions the consecutive twists and turns he’s forced to take, having only been answered by your pursed grin multiple times.
“Hey, no more questions! Just trust me!” you quip at his refusal to be quiet and just obediently follow. The blonde can’t help it, of course, given the circumstances he’s wound himself in. Not many boys his age can control themselves if the person they like is pulling them along with as much enthusiasm as you are right now. But Bakugou is different from those other simpletons, crafting a mask to cover the elation hidden beneath with usual displeasure. Nothing but his uncharacteristic lack of annoyance and the ample glances in your direction could truly give himself away to his affections for you.
So with that, he places a generous amount of hope that you guide him somewhere more entertaining than that borefest he witnessed from the squad earlier.
But the moment you two reach your destination, he wonders if he may have accidentally misplaced that same hope down a rabbit hole instead.
“What the…” Bakugou’s words drift in the air at the quizzical sight before him. Mouth hanging open, he’s unable to conjure any sensible thoughts in time before you step in front of him.
“Tada! The Capsule Toy Gacha Room!” You spread your hands outward to present him an unhindered view of the room. It’s teeming with small capsule toy machines that line the walls, stacked on top of each other not to waste a single space inside. His red eyes squint at the assortment of bright colors painted on each machine that assaults his vision.
“Why the hell are there so many of these things?” Bakugou asks, jabbing a finger at the machines. You reply as you walk inside, “It’s the Gacha Room, Bakugou. Of course this place is gonna be filled with them.” You impart him an answer he is not at all satisfied with.
“I used to come here all the time when I was a kid! Glad it hasn’t really changed,” you say, noting the only real difference between then and now were the new toys and characters updated with the current trends. He begrudgingly trails behind you into the narrow corridors sandwiched with the machines on each side. The modest little tune you hum between your lips is a stark contrast to his disgruntled huffs accompanying his dragging feet.
Bakugou thinks being here is not any different from what the other four are frolicking about outside. This might be the worse alternative, considering you give money to a machine that grants you an item at complete random. You have no way of knowing what or who you’re going to get until the colorful sphere pops out at the bottom. And then, in an instance, your anticipation fades away when you open it and receive the character no one particularly cares about—the little charm inevitably gathering dust, forgotten in the drawers of your desk. Overall, these toy capsule machines were just gluttons devouring the money of parents whose kids always whine about never getting what they wanted.
Still, because it’s you, he stays and watches you indulge in your little nostalgia trip.
As your eyes glide down the row of toy dispensers, trying your best to decipher the items contained behind the blurry glass, you chime in, “Say, Bakugou, don’t you have any memories of gacha machines?”
Bakugou’s brows furrow in contemplation. He racks through the nooks and crannies between the crevices of his mind and recalls some standout memories. “I guess. Few of ’em were stuck in front of the arcade place near my neighborhood,” he answers, but those memories immediately begin to sour the more he looks into the details.
You don’t see how his face slowly contorts with annoyance while he plays back a scene in his head.
At the time, Bakugou had only sprouted to the young age of five years old. He’s huddled around his posse in front of the arcade he mentioned, slotting a coin inside the capsule machine that was stocked full of charms of Pro Heroes, which housed a very special limited edition prize of All Might to honor their collaboration with the famous Number One of Japan.
The boy was positively giddy at what was to come out, remaining hopeful thanks to the giant poster of All Might gazing down upon him with his triumphant grin. Yet even when his squeaky little voice hollered out a “Plus Ultra!” to reinforce his luck, he was given dirt in response.
But you know who did get that mystery All Might prize?
Deku. Fucking Deku.
Right after he had his spin of the machine, the green-haired boy stepped up, gave it a go, and got All Might on his first fucking try. To say five-year-old Bakugou was bitter would only be putting it mildly. The unbridled emotions bundled in his tiny body were just waiting to burst in an explosion.
But in the end, did he fight Midoriya for it? No, he did not. For if he did, his mother would have scolded the hell out of him, and his young self reflected in the moment that avoiding parental wrath outweighed the limited edition Mystery All Might figure charm, as sad as that sounded. So since then, he’s tried to repress that memory in the far corners of his mind.
But it seems God just desires to spite him.
“Hey, look!” You pull lightly on his shirt to capture his attention, eyes trained forward at whatever piqued your interest. Bakugou peeks over your head, and what he’s met with does not please him.
“They have a gacha machine featuring Pro Heroes here!” you shout cheerfully, walking toward it with the hem of Bakugou’s shirt in hand, who begrudgingly follows along despite a groan nearly leaving his mouth.
“Isn’t this cool?” you ask. You squat down to peer into the peculiar machine located at the very bottom of the stack. Bakugou clicks his tongue as part of his reply, hands buried in the pockets of his trousers.
“No.”
“Hey, one day they’ll be making toys and charms of you as well, Mister ‘I’m Gonna Be The Number One Hero,’” you say with a giggle, and your comment sparks a bit of pink to dust his cheeks while he looks down at you from his standing position.
He attempts to join you and your fixation on the Pro Hero capsule machine. However, when he starts bending his knees, he finds this to be a bit difficult. The more he squats down, the more Bakugou realizes they truly made this place for children and not bulky teenagers like him training in hero school. His knees and bottoms almost brush up against the plastic sheen of the machines on each opposing side.
Though he has to fidget into a particular position to get somewhat comfortable, he eventually gets there and kneels next to you.
“Why don’t we give a go at this thing?” you suggest, and he tilts his head, eyes narrowed.
“No way, these are a fucking waste of money,” he rejects.
“Hey it only costs two hundred yen!” you counter, “And plus, you might get a certain hero you want, like say... All Might?” You attempt to lure him in using his idol’s very name, but Bakugou doesn’t take the bait so easily and remains rigid in his stance.
Even if he did want to try for All Might, he’s sure his capsule is long gone by now anyway.
“Aw c’mon, Bakugou, pleaseee?” you draw out your pleas in a cute little tone that takes the blond by complete surprise. Unaware of how much power you have over him, the doe eyes and pout that paint your features make it difficult for him to maintain his hardened facade. Feeling his walls begin to melt away at the endearing sight, he ultimately grits his teeth, eyes shut as his hands rummage down into his pockets.
“Fine,” he mutters in defeat, and that smile appears on your lips once again as you lift your arms in triumph.
Pulling out two separate hundred yen coins, he promptly slides them both into the coin silt. When he hears them clank against the other change inside, he goes for the handle and gives it a quick turn. One of the capsule balls begins its journey down the machine and quickly arrives at the hatch that Bakugou lifts to retrieve his prize.
Snapping the capsule open, he’s met with Endeavor’s ugly mug, seeming even more unsightly from the low-quality production of the charm. The paint job is beyond sloppy, with the colors on the costume not depicted accurately and the figure’s pupils drawn to make him appear cross-eyed.
“Hm, you got the number one hero,” you tease, lightheartedly nudging your elbow at his sides because you know full well it isn’t the number one hero he wanted. Bakugou ignores your taunts and shoves the flame hero’s plastic face down the depths of his pockets, making sure to give it to Todoroki later just to annoy him.
“Yeah yeah, your turn, princess.” He scooches a bit to his right to let you have your go. You gladly follow, taking out the two hundred yen from your money pouch.
Bakugou remains disinterested throughout the entire process but is still attentive enough to observe how you hum those casual tunes of yours despite doing something so mundane. He also starts absorbing the cute shape of your nose and the outline of your lips from this angle. It isn’t long until he realizes how close you are in this position, to the point where he could practically smell your fragrant scent, and soon that pink hue diffuses on his face again.
Fuck, I need to stop that, he urges.
By the time he turns away, the capsule machine has begun its machinations once again.
The sizable sphere descending the hatch this time has striped patterns of red, yellow, and blue, colors that remind him all too much of a certain Pro Hero— Wait. What the fuck—
“This one looks a bit bigger than the others, don’t you think? Wonder what... Oh, hey, it’s All Might!” You go through the emotions—curiosity, anticipation, and then finally, glee.
Bakugou feels like he’s reliving those horrible memories once again as he beholds the shiny, miniature figure nestling in your palms before you lift it to grant a better view of its glory. It twists around from how you pinch it by the attached string while it’s hovering in the air. When the Pro Hero’s face turns in the blond’s direction, it’s like the inanimate object is somehow taunting him.
Compared to Endeavor’s shitty charm, All Might’s is a proper representation of who he is. The better quality plastic molded accurately into the man’s figure, the crevices between his muscles delved into displaying his well-defined physique. The colors on his costume are all correctly painted in his signature red, white, yellow, and blue. They even got the broad grin and shadowy features on his face to the tee.
Whichever company created this toy indeed did All Might justice because it looks exactly like the one Midoriya unsealed right in front of his envious five-year-old eyes.
Bakugou’s body shakes with suppressed anger. His hands clench and then unclench themselves while in conflict with his thoughts. Then, he suddenly moves toward you, darting for the charm that you narrowly pull out from his grapples in time.
“L-Lemme see!” he demands, shifting his hand around to grab hold of it for some reason. The act has you befuddled while you continue to move the toy away to evade capture.
“Huh? Why?”
“I need... to fucking make sure— OOF—”
His sputters are the last things that escape his lips before he staggers off balance due to all those hasty movements. It sends his body toppling over yours onto the floor, where your head would’ve thumped against the hard ground had the boy’s well-trained instincts not maneuvered a hand beneath it in time to cushion your fall.
Your descent to the floor is not at all graceful, wincing slightly at the impact. It’s when the pain ebbs away that you and Bakugou finally realize the very awkward position you’re suddenly both in.
Bakugou is hovering over you, body between your legs as one of his hands is cradling your head. The other is situated next to your face against the ground to keep himself upright, letting his eyes stare down at your stricken expression.
Unknowingly, you had settled your hand on Bakugou’s shoulder out of impulse during fall. The other one is still grasping the All Might figure, which is unharmed despite the abrupt movements.
Bakugou can feel your even breaths caress his lips from how close in proximity both of your faces are in this position. If any of you so much as move the wrong way, your lips would undoubtedly collide into each other. Though Bakugou doesn’t mind the notion, he isn’t going to instigate it if you aren’t willing. But the way your eyes line toward his lips, giving him a similar enamored look to the one he has right now, it seems both of you are on the same page.
Taking your mutual fixations as the sign to continue, Bakugou draws himself forward to close the distance while you rise to meet him in the middle.
And finally, he gets to kiss those lips of yours. The lips that adorn your cute face he always snuck glances at. The lips so unhinged in their playful teasing toward him. The lips he’s been so mesmerized and bewitched by throughout this chaotic excuse of a shopping trip.
And when they meet, they’re as full and soft as he imagined them to be, melding perfectly against his.
The hand he’s nestled under your head allows him to press you further into the liplock. You’re nearly enveloped in his wistful machinations, wanting to drown in the sea of his affections as your arms find their way around him.
You would’ve allowed yourself to do so, if not for the unfortunate security camera you catch in the corner of your eye from where you laid.
Your eyes widen, staggering out of their half-liddedness. You pat your hand in rapid succession against his shoulder, getting the blond to stir and separate from the kiss—an act he detests as he doesn’t want the embrace to end.
“What?” he gruffs. You point up at the ceiling, and he turns in that direction. When he detects the security camera about to automatically shift toward this particular side of the Capsule Toy Gacha Room, his face grows full of panic. He lifts himself off your body immediately.
With the two of you remembering where you are, you rose from the ground and cleaned yourselves up. You try to appear pristine as possible, without letting any suspicion about what has happened get tossed in your direction. Still, the red faces plastering both of your features are already a dead giveaway.
“I… Uh…” Bakugou’s still lost in the haze of the heated moment, unsure of what words he should utter. Much to his relief, his burden lifts when two notifications from your phones ring in sync together, diverting your attention.
When you open your phone and slide across the notice, a text message from the Bakusquad ascends onto the screen.
Mina: heyyyy just finished going through all these vending machines! you wont believe how much money we spent!!
The message follows a selfie of the four holding a myriad of drinks and snacks together in the picture. You can’t suppress your giggle at the endearing sight. Another chime sounds when a new text pops up at the bottom.
Eijirou: let’s all meet up again at that blue mystery vending machine!
“Well, you heard them,” you say while clicking off your phone, “we better get a move on.”
Bakugou relays your words back in a slow nod, following through with a rough “yeah” that cleaves his throat. The two of you walk alongside each other once again while you leave the Capsule Toy Gacha Room. Only your steps padding against the mall’s confounds accompany the quiet atmosphere established between you two—awkward and a bit unnerving.
It’s when you’ve both made it to the meet-up spot in front of the blue vending machine that you alleviate yourselves of the strained tension.
“Soooo… was there any reason you wanted to get your hand on this thing so badly?” you question, drawing out the All Might charm that led those heated events to transpire. It dangles between your fingertips and glances at Bakugou along every rotation. The blonde bounces his eyes between you, All Might, and the ground, unsure if he should admit that he was acting out of childish jealousy and bitterness.
“I… Urgh… Fuck…”
You raise an eyebrow when he fumbles with his words. He mutters blatant obscenities between every possible resolve that crosses his mind.
“Look, forget it. It’s not important,” Bakugou concludes, but you think differently, not satisfied with his answer.
“No. Tell me.”
With that weight in your tone, Bakugou realizes he can’t avoid the subject any longer. He releases a long sigh as he leads you through the infamous tale, observing how your expression grows from concerned to downright amused.
“Really? You’ve held a grudge for that long?” The laughter you initially attempt to suppress ends up bubbling from your throat. Hearing it spurs Bakugou to clutch his hands together into shaky fists.
“Look. If you know me, then you should remember I never want to lose to fucking Deku. The fact he got the All Might charm right after I got garbage fucking pissed me off!” he exclaims loud enough for his harsh words to reach a couple walking by. They spare worried glances at the blonde when they stroll past him.
“Hmm…” you muse in thought. Bakugou can tell by the glint rising in your eyes and your tone that you’re up to something again. “I can give you mine if you want. But only for a very small price.”
He quirks an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest. “And what would that fucking price be?”
The smirk prominent on your pretty lips widens while you teeter your weight to your tippy-toes in front of him.
“A date. Just a single date will suffice,” you tell him, and Bakugou’s caught off guard by how simple the offer is. His delayed response has you leaning forward, appraising him for an answer.
“Well..?” You wave the charm before his eyes by the thin string as if to hypnotize him. But in all honesty, Bakugou knows that sweet smile of yours and luster in your eyes is all you need to have him wrapped around your finger.
His playful smirk surfaces his lips. He provides his answer by snatching the figure right from your dainty fingertips.
“You got yourself a deal, princess.”
You happily clap your hands together. “It’s settled then! We’ll have a date here at the mall next week!”
“Hah?! Why the fucking mall again?!”
“Because we didn’t do much here anyway, so I say we should give it another shot together next week!”
“What? And go shopping? I don’t wanna be your bellboy the entire time—”
“Mom! Mom! Look at that boy’s All Might toy!”
You and Bakugou are both surprised by the new, high-pitched voice that enters in the middle of your riffraff. Your eyes trail along to sound and come face-to-face with a young boy staring at the toy in Bakugou’s hand.
“I want one too!”
Unable to control his gloating, Bakugou dangles the charm next to his face.
“Yeah well, too bad, kid. It’s mine so f—”
“Bakugou,” you warn. You halt the obscene words from entering the boy’s ears and avoid giving his mom a hard time.
“Argh… I mean... scram!”
You almost smack yourself. You can’t believe Bakugou has the guile to argue with a child at this age.
Though he forgoes the curses, that doesn’t make Bakugou’s words sound any less harsh. As a result, the kid pouts. He pouts hard. His eyes start to become glassy, lining the edge of his lashes with droplets. Recognizing her child on the verge of breaking out into tears, the mom acts quickly. She’s by his side, patting his back.
“Sweetie, why don’t you go to that blue vending machine over there and see if you can get a toy too,” she cheers him up instantly, dropping a hundred yen coin down her son’s small palm.
“Okay, mom!” he responds, gleeful again.
He dawdles over to the machine with purpose in his steps, inserting the coin, and pressing the lone button on the mystery vending machine.
You and Bakugou don’t perceive any noise emitting from the machine, and yet the little boy is putting his hands into the slot to pull something out.
“Mom, why did the machine give me a paper that says PS5?”
Both of you go rigid. Kaminari is not going to be happy hearing about this.

Can I Really Wear A Dress?
This was..written in like ten minutes late at night oopsie
Masterlist
Content: amab reader, trans mtf reader, body dysphoria tw, mild self-loathing tw
Tumblr media
The parts don’t go together. Your body is one thing, your head is something else, your heart says something totally different, nothing makes any sense. Wouldn’t it be better to go under the knife? But how long would it take? What would it cost? How much would it hurt? What if something went wrong? Can I even-
“Hey, what’s up?”
-Kirishima is so sweet. He mentioned he was going out today, is he going to invite me with him? Maybe he’s here asking for another study session.
“I’m going out, want to come with? Sero and Ashido are coming. Couldn’t convince Bakugo, and Kaminari’s stuck with Iida and Momo since he bombed the test yesterday.”
“I don’t blame him, that one was tough!” Y/n groaned. She smiled. “Yeah. Gimme a sec to change, I don’t want to go out looking like a hobo.”
“Yeah… Might want to buy some new sweats while we’re out.”
Kirishima chuckled, withdrawing from Y/n’s room, having cracked the door open and stuck his head in, leaving Y/n alone once more in the vastness of her unkempt room.
Sweats… They’re comfy, but I should probably stop wearing sweatpants.
Y/n stood up from her desk, abandoning a notebook half filled with math equations but mostly with doodles. She walked over to her closet and picked the first dress she saw, changing quickly so she could think about anything else but the plagues in her mind. She had to stop herself from running down the stairs, eager to get out and have a good day not cooped up in her room stuck in her own head.
“Hey, Y/n!” Ashido said excitedly. “Ready to go?”
Y/n nodded, grinning.
Mina’s always so happy, and she’s so strong! She really is the best.
“I just know Ashido’s going to drag us around to every store in the mall,” Sero said, raising an eyebrow. “Prepare your wallet, L/n.”
“Yeah, I figured,” Y/n said. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
“Hey, if you run outta cash, I’ll cover you,” Kirishima said happily, gathering the group and leading them out of the dorms.
It was a peaceful train ride to get to the mall. Ashido kept eyeing up an attractive stranger who got off two stops after they got on, Sero was spewing an unending chain of dad jokes he learned on the internet, and Kirishima was listing facts about Crimson Riot the whole way. Y/n was just happy to be a part of any of their conversations.
As soon as they got to the mall, however, Ashido zoomed off to a jewelry store and disappeared. Sero got lost in Build-A-Bear Workshop.
Y/n, afraid of being left on her own, stuck to Kirishima like glue, never letting him out of her sight.
“D’you think Ashido or Sero’ll come back anytime soon?” She asked, following Kirishima into some fast-fashion shop full of tweens. Kirishima grimaced.
“Probably not,” he said. “Last time I came here, Ashido stopped at the food courts and ended up coming back an hour later than us on a different train.”
“Oh, was that the time last week when Kaminari came back totally zapped?” Y/n asked, remembering the loud yey as Kaminari entered the dorm. Kirishima nodded. “I should really get out with you guys more. I never get to see him embarrass himself in public.”
Y/n stared at a pink dress as they walked past it, taking it in before following Kirishima to the men’s jeans section. Not noticing he’d stopped, she bumped into him awkwardly.
“Sorry. You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she said. “My fault. Is something up?”
“You looked like you wanted that,” he said simply. “Do you want to try it on? I can pay if it’s too much for you.”
“The dress?” Y/n asked, unsure of what he meant. Kirishima nodded. “Oh. It’s cute, but I don’t think I could pull it off.”
“I politely disagree,” Kirishima said, grinning. “Go try it on! It really is cute, I think you’d rock it.”
Y/n smiled shyly, walking back over to the dresses and flicking through the ones hanging on the rack, trying to find her size. She finally did, holding it up so Kirishima could see as he kept browsing the jeans. He gave her a thumbs up, and she went to the dressing room, eager to try it on. If Kirishima thought she’d look good in it, then she would, right? After all, he was one of the sweetest people she knew.
She pulled off the dress she was currently wearing, cream-colored with a floral print, and stared at herself in the mirror for a few minutes.
…It’s just not right. Who am I kidding, just because Kirishima thinks it’s a cute dress doesn’t mean it’ll look any better on me. If anything, I’ll just make it less cute. It probably won’t even fit, it’s not made for people like me. Maybe if I looked more like Ashido, then I could pull it off. She looks good in anything! I’m not like her, though. I should just put the dress back. It’s not like I’ll end up wearing it. I’ll just end up in sweatpants and a t-shirt again as soon as I’m back at the dorms. Even the dress I’m wearing today doesn’t look good on me. I should’ve worn something else today. I can’t-
“Hey, Y/n, you’ve been in here for a while,” Kirishima said. There was only one occupied dressing room, so he assumed that was where Y/n was. He took a seat on one of the benches. “You okay? Does it fit?”
“Um- No, it doesn’t,” Y/n lied, panicking. “And it doesn’t look that good either, so I think I’ll just not get it-”
“Can I see it?”
Y/n paused, staring at herself in the mirror before looking at the dress, hanging off one of the pegs on the wall. She sighed quietly, taking it off the hanger and slipping it on quickly. She opened the door to the dressing room she was in and brushed off the skirt awkwardly.
“I don’t really-”
“What do you mean it doesn’t fit? That looks awesome on you!” Kirishima said excitedly. “Turn around!”
Y/n spun around slowly, showing off the dress. There was some comfort in Kirishima’s enthusiasm, but the dress still didn’t fulfill any particular dreams.
“Do you really like it that much?” She asked. Kirishima nodded.
“It’s super pretty,” he said. “I told you you’d look good in it, didn’t I? Do you want me to buy it for you?”
“Um… No,” Y/n said awkwardly, seeing herself in the mirror again as Kirishima gently turned her around, carefully examining the strappy back of the dress.
“Really? Why not?”
“I just… I don’t want it,” she said.
“You looked so in love with it earlier,” Kirishima protested. “Is it uncomfortable or something?”
“I just don’t think I look good in it,” Y/n mumbled. “You’re really nice, and I’m happy you like the dress, but it’s not for me.”
Kirishima sighed, taking a deep breath.
“I don’t like the dress,” he said firmly. “I like you. I like all the dresses you wear. Actually, I like everything you wear! You’re so pretty!”
Y/n walked back into the dressing room and closed the door, changing back into her other dress slowly.
“I’m not pretty, Kirishima,” she said, voice wavering. “…I’m hardly handsome, either. It’s just not right. The dress doesn’t look good on me.”
It didn’t take much for Kirishima to put the pieces together. Y/n had never had a particularly feminine figure, though he thought it was just because she had more muscle than most of the girls in their class. She was really strong, after all. She went out of her way to do very feminine things, more so than the other girls in class, even going so far as to learn how to make different teas from Yaomomo or to have Tsu teach her how to do complicated braids. It all fell into place when Y/n said ‘handsome’.
“The dress does look good on you, Y/n,” Kirishima said, his voice more firm than Y/n had ever heard. “And you are pretty. Beautiful, even! You’re the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever met. …Emphasis on girl.”
Y/n didn’t respond.
“I don’t know what’s going on in your head right now, but I do know you look good in dresses. And in skirts. And anything else you wear! …You use the girls’ bathroom, and you wear ladies’ perfume- the same one Uraraka wears, just a little less of it- and you do your makeup even better than Ashido does. Even if you don’t want me to buy the dress, I want to hear you say it looks good on you.”
“…I look good in the dress.”
“Damn right you do.”

we never go out of style | jake sim
pairing: Jake Sim x gn!reader
genre: fluff
warnings: descriptions of body image (jake basically checks the reader out), mentions of a diet (jake’s, not the reader’s)
word count: 1.3k
summary: in desperate need of some new clothes, you invite your best friends Jay and Jake on a shopping spree for fashion advice. the day is a success, and while you walk out of the mall with a new outfit, Jake has something new of his own that he’s not sure he can afford.
-
The food court was practically empty.
You and your two best friends were sitting at the cleanest table you had ever seen in a mall; the three of you had last period free, so you were able to get here before the usual mob of high schoolers who left countless straw-wrappers, used napkins, and various unidentifiable foods wherever they went.
The three of you were at the mall because your wardrobe was in desperate need of an update. It was a lot simpler when you were younger, natural growth being an automatic reminder to buy new clothes and change things up. As you got older, it was easier to just throw on the same sweatshirt you wore on your first day of eighth grade and call it a day, which is why you needed some extra motivation in the form of the two boys sitting with you.
“Thanks for coming with me today, guys, I feel like I’ve been cycling through the same three outfits for weeks now.”
“Yeah, I noticed.”
You playfully swatted Jay on the arm. He was the only person you would accept this kind of criticism from, him being the resident fashionista of your friend group after all, but it didn’t mean you always liked to hear what he had to say.
“Like you’re any better! At least I get dressed before my morning classes.”
“Changing into a different pair of sweatpants doesn’t count as ‘getting dressed,'” Jay shot back.
“Neither does tossing a $300 sweatshirt on and walking out the door,” Jake, who was sitting across from you, pointed out.
Jake’s comment made you laugh and even pulled a little smile out of Jay.
“Okay so no sweatshirts and no sweatpants today, that’s the only rule,” you joked, “but everything else is fair game.”
You reached for the bottle of water you had gotten with your meal. No matter how hard you twisted the cap, it wouldn’t budge, even when you pulled your sleeve down over your palm to help.
“Here,” Jake started, “let me-”
Before Jake could finish, Jay plucked the bottle from your hands and opened it with one twist. You and him were unfazed, Jay reaching for a French fry off of Jake’s tray, you taking a sip of your water.
You met Jake’s eyes, noticing his furrowed brows and parted lips; he looked confused.
“What?” You asked, putting the bottle back down on the table.
Jay was staring at him now too, eyebrows raised.
“It’s nothing,” he shook his head. “Where are we off to first?”
-
“Y/N! Come over here.”
You made your way over to Jay, his height making it easy to see him over the racks of clothes. You had barely stopped walking before he turned you around and started holding up shirts to your back, trying to figure out your size.
Apparently satisfied with his findings, Jay put three shirts, two pairs of jeans, and a thin leather jacket in your arms before turning back around to browse the accessory stand.
“How do you even know Y/N’s jean size?” Jake asked.
Jay just shrugged but you explained, “we’ve gone shopping together before.”
“Oh. I didn’t know that,” Jake said, his voice small.
You frowned, why did he have the same look on his face as he did whenever he was on a diet for soccer and Heeseung ate ramen in front of him?
You were about to ask him what was wrong when Jay was back in front of you, holding various pieces of jewelry up to you and the clothes, trying to figure out what matched best.
“Jay, am I made of money or something? Slow down!”
“I’ll pay for it. Consider it an investment in walking around with better-dressed friends.”
You opened your mouth to argue but your friend had already dashed off, flagging down a store employee to get you a dressing room.
“Do you want me to hold your stuff while you try these on?” Jake offered.
You smiled at the boy, accepting.
He took your bag from around your wrist, underneath the pile of clothes, and made sure not to graze your skin with his fingers lest he start blushing in front of you.
“Can you grab my phone, too? It’s in my back pocket.”
Jake gulped but did as you asked, his fingers reaching around your waist to grab your phone before slipping it into his own pocket.
You flashed him another smile before walking over to the employee Jay had found, giving Jake a chance to breathe and find a way to bring the heat in his cheeks down before you came back out.
The two boys took a seat right in front of your dressing room. Jay immediately went to scroll through something on his phone but Jake stopped him.
“Do you guys, like, do this often?”
The question caught Jay off guard. Why did Jake care how often you two went shopping? Did he…?
Realizing what was going on here, Jay tried to comfort him.
“It’s not really a regular thing, I think they just like my honesty. You don’t have to worry.”
“Worry? I-I…Why would I be worried? I was just… oh.”
Jay moved his head to follow his friend’s gaze.
Jake’s eyes were locked on you as you stepped out of the dressing room. The sight of you was a little too much for him and he needed to remind himself to breathe.
Your shopping trips with Jay obviously paid off because the jeans he picked fit you perfectly, a little too perfectly, hugging your body and making your legs look long, the rips giving Jake a glimpse of your bare skin. The shirt you were wearing emphasized your sharp collarbones, a simple necklace laying between them and disappearing beneath your shirt. The jacket really pulled it all together, the expensive design making you stand with more confidence than usual; it was impossible to look away from you.
Jake wasn’t used to seeing you in clothes like this. Sure, he always thought you looked incredible, but Jay was known for his fashion sense for a reason. He knew exactly what to do to emphasize the parts of your body that had Jake’s jaw practically on the floor.
“How does it look?” You asked tentatively. You thought you looked good but the awestruck look on Jake’s face was making you nervous. Either he really liked the clothes or had never seen something so horrifying in his life, it was hard to tell.
Jay, however, was smirking, obviously satisfied with his work. You looked cool and confident and everything fit you nicely. The necklace he had picked was a little long for the shirt you were wearing, but he decided it was a job well done anyway.
“Great,” Jake squeaked before clearing his throat. “It looks really good.”
Relieved, you turned away from your two friends to inspect the clothes in the floor-length mirror off to the side.
Jay nudged the boy next to him with his elbow.
“Dude, you’re staring.”
Jake snapped out of it and looked down at his shoes to hide the blush that was apparently going nowhere.
Jay had to keep himself from laughing at his friend, he had never seen Jake so flustered before.
After changing back into your original clothes you walked out to join your friends, all of Jay’s findings in your hands.
“Does it all fit?”
“Yeah, that one top is a little low-cut but-”
“Perfect! I’ll go take care of it,” Jay decided, taking everything from you and practically dashing away, leaving you and Jake alone.
“Are you sure everything looked okay? I mean, I trust Jay, but just because an outfit looks good doesn’t mean it will look good on me, you know?”
“Y/N, you looked really good,” his hand went up to rub the back of his neck. “Well, you always do, but especially in that outfit.”
Now it was your turn to blush.
“Honestly, you even looked kind of intimidating in that jacket.”
You nudged him with your elbow. “Are you saying you’re afraid of me, Sim?” You joked.
Jake just laughed at your words, not sure how to explain that while he wasn’t afraid of you, the feelings he had for you were definitely a little terrifying.
-
A/N: This is obviously a lot shorter than “join me in the sky” but I hope you guys still enjoy it! I feel like Jake would get really shy around his crush lol and when this idea popped into my head I knew it was the perfect opportunity to write about blushy Jake!

An Unexpected Friendship, But A Friendship Nonetheless
A Jason Todd and Harley Quinn One-Shot (Non-Reader Insert)
Word Count: 2K Warnings: Explicit Language, Angst
Author's Note: So I wrote this for @aurailia or @nitebirdie because she drew that wonderful Jason picture for me which you can find right here! I hope you like this, Jess! Love you! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
Jason expected a lot of things.
1. Getting yelled at by Bruce for shooting serial murderers and rapists? Check.
2. Getting yelled at by Damian for calling him short? Check.
3. Getting yelled at by Tim for spray painting a billboard of him with penises? Check.
4. Getting yelled at by Dick for picking on his younger brothers? Check.
So really, it was getting yelled at by his family that he expected the most, but all things considered about his life, his expectations weren’t pretty high. He knew he was going to get hurt on patrol, knew was going to spend the rest of his life dealing with the chronic pain and learning how to manage it.
But the one thing Jason never expected, was to end up being friends with Harley Quinn.
And honest to God, the whole friendship only started because the psychiatrist they both went to accidentally scheduled them at the same time. A screw up. A monumental screw up. But it did lead to a revolutionary session where Jason and Harley spent most of their time badgering each other about their habits while the woman merely watched on and scribbled furiously at her notepad.
When they both left, they were in such a heated argument about which way would be better to deal with the Joker. Jason suggested a bullet in the head and Harley suggested cutting off his arms and legs. An excellent suggestion, he had to admit, but nothing would satisfy him more than killing the pasty bastard, and she knew that too.
Surprisingly, when Harley got to her bus stop, she grabbed the front collar of his shirt to keep him in place while she typed her number in his phone. Of course, Jason wasn’t sure what to be more concerned about: the fact that she’d lifted his phone without him knowing, or that she was putting her number in it and telling him to call her when he needed someone to talk to.
He’d responded that he didn’t need another shrink in his head.
She’d given him a pitied look and said it wasn’t for that, but for a friend.
And Jason wasn’t sure how to feel about that, but three weeks after, he was dialing her number at two A.M. just to hear someone’s voice over the deafening silence in his apartment.
They talked for hours about anything and everything. Cars, weapons, games, favorite childhood memories, everything they could think of. And by the time they’d finally talked until their tongues were numb, the sun had started peeking above the buildings in the distance.
He apologized for keeping her all night.
Harley laughed and asked to hang out on patrol come Friday night then hung up.
Jason hadn’t even told her who he was, but low and behold she was doing cartwheels on the roof of the building he was looking out on that night. And it should’ve annoyed him but hell, he’d grown up with Dick—gymnastics was something he was used to being around.
Halfway through their stakeout, she was perched on the side of the ledge, staring at the side of his head, and it shouldn’t’ve unnerved him like it did, but there was something about her bright blue eyes drilling into his brain that made his skin crawl—and not in the good way.
Will you stop boring holes in me, Quinn? He’d grunted. Pay attention.
Why? She’d retorted. Aren’t you tired of doing this? Don’t you wanna go do something fun?
Stopping drug dealers is good for Gotham.
I’m not talking about good for Gotham, Jason. I’m talking about for you.
Harley hauled him up and tugged him along, him barely resisting because good God she was relentless and headstrong when she put her mind to something. So, he let her. And she dragged him to the Bat-Burger down the block and shoved a roll of money towards the cashier, ordering one of everything on the menu.
And Jason found it really odd when he was balancing two trays in his hands while Harley carried the milkshakes over to the booth in the corner where they huddled in and started eating.
She held up a packet in between her fingers. Want some Jokerized seasoning?
He blinked at her and gently took it, sprinkling the red, white, and green flakes over his fries. And he wasn’t offended when she reached over and took one, popping it in her mouth.
It’s terrible to say it, but God I love this shit. She laughed and Jason’s jaw dropped.
I know! He agreed with a grin. I can’t help it! It’s so good!
Her eyes had narrowed at that. You should smile more, Jason. You look normal when you do.
Normal? He repeated.
You look happy. And that’s what you should strive for. She finalized and took the Robin Nuggets from his tray, grinning when he let out a noise of complaint.
When they could finally move after consuming so much food, she tugged him along to the department store that had closed hours before and while Jason wasn’t one to ever care about breaking and entering, he did have a problem with property that wasn’t a center for criminal activity.
Don’t be a baby. She griped and slipped in though one of the vents and Jason merely stared at the opening before he heard her yell to him. Get a move on! We have stuff to do!
Begrudgingly, he squeezed himself into the way too small vent and shimmied after her.
And Harley Quinn must’ve been planning this for a while because when his feet finally hit the floor, he watched as she started disabling security cameras and alarms in the entire building before spinning around and grinning at him.
Mall’s ours. Let’s get it. And she was off.
Bruce was not going to be happy about this but watching her swing that electrified bat at the glass windows, watching them shatter into millions of shards stirred up something devious in him and Harley was cackling when he broke a window with an armored elbow and yanked out the mannequin, tugging the black leather jacket off before shrugging it on.
He posed with his shoulders squared and strong and she clapped her hands. Looks good! Wanna go hit one of the jewelry stores and find some silver earrings to go with it?
Jason nodded and somehow Harley ended up piggybacking on him, giggling profusely when he started belting out Queen at the top of his lungs; she even joined when they got to the operatics.
And somehow, he let her convince him to go and help her raid the major makeup store in the mall. Harley managed to fill three backpacks full of lipsticks, foundations, eye-shadows, and a whole lotta other shit that Jason had no idea what they were for.
How much money do you think all that is? He inquired and she shrugged.
Probably a grand? Maybe two if I’m being honest. This place is a money-sucking-makeup-hog and I’ll be damned if I’m paying a hundred bucks for one set of lipstick and eyeliner.
She turned to him. Anywhere you wanna go? There’s a map out there if you wanna go look.
Jason nodded and walked out of the store while she was busy filling whatever belt pocket wasn’t empty.
After a few minutes, he heard, Found anywhere?
He pointed silently at one of the stores on the brightened map and she squinted, looking it over.
You wanna go there?
Wouldn’t’ve suggested it if I didn’t.
She shrugged and piggybacked him again. Lead the way, Jason.
He hated that the elevators had been out, and while he hadn’t broken a sweat carrying Harley up three flights of immovable stairs, his knees and his back were killing him when they finally got to the store.
He started wandering inside but stopped when she tossed him a duffel bag.
Fill it up with everything you want.
Jason tried to smile but could only manage a grimace as he stepped in and started going up and down the aisles. He wasn’t too picky with his choosing. Books that looked like they’d help manage his pain he shoved in the duffel bag. An electric pulsing gel pad went in too followed by a vibrating roller he could stretch his muscles on.
He was flipping through a book geared towards mindful chronic pain management when he felt her slide next to him.
Finding everything alright?
Mostly…this one is all about conditioning the mind to work with the pain.
Sounds useful. Meditation and mindfulness have been known to work. It’s really all about placebo-ing your mind into it. She looked at him. Jason, do you ever think about going to a physical therapist?
He scoffed. I already go see a shrink. Why would I go see another doctor?
Because your mind is one thing, and your body is another. Her hand was cool when she placed it on his arm. Jason, if you’re in pain, there are people who can help you.
He really wanted to be snarky but all he could do was glare at her. And what about you? Do you go see a doctor for all the things he did to you too?
Harley gazed at him for a long time before answering him firmly. I will if you do. Or… she started, then trailed off and picked up a few books on physical therapy. You can come to the apartment that Ivy and I live in and we can do it together.
And Jason blinked in shock because he’d never met a person who would agree to do something for themselves if he did something for himself, an agreement for dual help.
You’d really do that for me? For you too?
Harley smiled, big and pearly white, red lipstick a bit smeared in the corner from their meal earlier.
We’re both screwed up cause of what he did, Jason. But here’s where we’re different from everyone else. She linked her arm with his, leaned close and murmured. We’re not going to stew in it while healing is in our futures.
You know we’ll never be one hundred percent fixed, right?
It’s not about fixing, Jason. It’s about healing. Healing doesn’t mean you’re fixed. Memories, pain, it’ll always be there and no amount of management for pain or therapy is going to fix that.
She stared up at him. But it will remind you that you’re still you. Even if there’s a few broken pieces here and there. And no one can take that from you. Not even him.
Jason’s lungs were too tight to form words and his eyes stung horribly but he managed to swallow the lump enough to choke out his reply. You’re alright, Harley.
Smiling, she pressed her cheek into his bicep. Call me Harleen, Jason.
Not Harley?
No, not Harley. I only let the ones I care about call me Harleen.
Does this mean we’re friends then?
Oh, this absolutely means we’re friends now. Best friends, in fact. She tugged at his arm. And I think there’s a Wayne Enterprises outlet somewhere in here and I think we should leave Brucie boy a message.
Jason laughed and wiped his eyes, hurrying after her. Can we spray paint dicks everywhere?
Only if I can spray paint boobs.
You’ve got yourself a deal, Harleen.
Jason expected a lot in his life. To be yelled at by his family for being a pain-in-the-ass son and brother, to be injured on the job, to see a therapist every Tuesday and Thursday, to call his family every night to tell them he loved them.
But the one thing he never expected, was to find one of the greatest friends he’d ever had in a woman he had once been on opposite sides with.
He also didn’t expect Batman to come through the window of the outlet in the middle of their spray painting but that’s another story for another time.

THE FIVE TIMES HE DIDN’T
MASTERLIST | KEITH KOGANE X ALTEAN!READER
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: weapons, fighting, mentions of war
NOTES: If anyone wants, I actually have ideas for a sequel (and a spin off where it’s the times Y/N didn’t) to this! So if you enjoy this, please let me know if you’d like them too!!
Tumblr media
i.
Keith trails slightly behind Y/N as her eyes flicker from store to store. The only reason he had agreed to stick with her was so nothing would happen to her. It wasn’t that he didn’t know Y/N could protect herself — no, he knew she was more than capable of taking down an enemy combatant. All of that training her and Allura had gone through as Altean children was for a reason — but he didn’t want to risk her getting hurt.
And maybe part of him wanted to spend time with her. Even if that meant staying about 10 feet behind her at all times.
Y/N glanced over her shoulder, a frown tugging at her lips when she noticed Keith was trapped in his thoughts.
“Keith,” she called out, coming to a stop.
Keith, still trapped in thought, only snapped out when he felt his chest colliding against her back. “I’m s-”
“Don’t be,” Y/N laughed.
A beautiful sound, if you asked Keith.
“Come on, walk alongside me, Keith,” she pleaded. “We are friends, are we not? Friends walk with each other, not behind one another.”
Keith fell into line as they continued through the mall, still on the hunt for the lenses that Coran needed for the teludav. “What’s on your mind?” She questioned.
“Nothing,” he quickly shook his head.
“Oh…” The two fell into an almost comfortable silence. If Shiro were here right now, he’d be giving Keith looks, trying to get him to finally say something. To confess the feelings that felt like they were eating him up. But Keith couldn’t. He couldn’t risk that.
Maybe before, before they had met Ulaz. But now? Now it wasn’t a good time.
Keith looked down as his hand brushed against her own, he was half tempted to hold hers. “Y/N-” He started speaking before he even knew what he was doing.
Though at the same time he spoke, Y/N was pulling away and stopping in front of a shop window, a grin forming on her features as she stared at the shiny jewelry inside.
What was he even thinking? Did he seriously believe now would be a good time to tell her how he felt? Y/N would end up hating him, and then not only would it ruin their friendship, but it’d mess with the team’s dynamic too.
How were they supposed to work together in the Red Lion if she hated him?
Tumblr media
ii.
“Keith.”
His head shot up at the sound of his name, but when he realised it was Y/N - standing there in her armour, a confused expression on her face - he lowered his head in shame.
“You’re-”
“Galra… yeah,” Keith breathed out.
Y/N blinked, before stepping closer as she moved to sit beside him. “I was going to say you’re going to be okay. This doesn’t change anything, Keith.”
“It changes everything!” Keith shouted as he stood up, moving away from Y/N. “You should hate me, Y/N.”
“Well, I don’t,” Y/N shook her head. “I could never.”
“But Allura… and Altea-
“Allura will come to understand,” Y/N stood up. “You may have Galra blood, but you are not them. You aren’t part of the Empire that did that to my home. You’re Keith, from Earth. Paladin of the Red Lion, and my friend.”
She took his hand in her own, causing Keith’s expression to soften slightly. “I will never hate you, Keith. Especially not because of something so out of your control.”
At that moment, he wants to tell her. He wants to spill everything he’s been feeling. Explain those butterflies in his stomach that appear when she smiles at him, or the nights he can’t sleep because he’s thinking of her.
But he doesn’t. And when Y/N finally notices that he won’t say anything, she sighs and drops his hand. “I hope you’ll see what I see one day, Keith,” she whispered, before turning to leave the room.
Keith just watched as she felt, slipping from his grasp again.
Maybe it’s for the better. Everybody leaves in the end, maybe it was a good thing she was doing it now rather than later. After all, her words could’ve just been a lie in an attempt to comfort him.
What if she hated him for being Galra?
Tumblr media
iii.
Tomorrow was the day.
They were finally going to take down Zarkon. And while Keith knew he should probably be getting rest, preparing for the battle. He was instead walking through the Olkarion castle, half hoping Y/N would be awake and willing to talk too.
Keith stepped out onto a balcony, his eyes falling onto Y/N, whose arms were crossed as she stared into the distance.
“Hey,” he spoke softly.
It took Y/N a moment before she turned to see who was there, and suddenly a smile began to tug at her lips. “Hi.”
“What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?”
Y/N’s eyes flickered between the sky and Keith. “Well, what are you doing out here in the middle of the night?” She shot back.
Keith couldn’t help but smile as he walked over to stand beside her. “Good one, Y/N.”
As she faced the city below them once more, Keith found himself staring at her. “I couldn’t sleep,” she answered quietly. “The Empire… We finally have a chance to stop Zarkon, and then you and the other Paladins will be free to go home. I just…”
“What?” Keith’s brows furrowed in confusion.
“Well, I’m happy for you all. Truly,” Y/N sighed. “But Altea won’t come back just from defeating the enemy. And I know I have Coran and Allura, and the Castle ship but- but it’s not home.”
“I know it’s not the same but you can… you can always come back to Earth. With me,” Keith muttered.
He could’ve sworn that Y/N’s face softened as she blinked away the tears that had been forming in her eyes. “I’d love that, Keith,” she smiled sadly. “But do you really think your people will accept us?”
“I don’t know,” he sighed. He really didn’t think about that. Or about how they’d see him if Earth were ever affected by the Galra. “But you’ll always have a home with me, Y/N. No matter what.”
“Thank you,” Y/N whispered, glancing at him as a blush crept onto her cheeks.
The two stared at each other for a moment, and just as Keith was about to lean in, the door behind them opened. “I guess I’m not the only one who can’t sleep,” Hunk realised, shuffling over to stand with his friends.
Y/N quickly averted her gaze, turning to face Hunk. “Are you alright?”
Keith frowned, a quiet sigh escaping his lips as he left the balcony.
Why did he even try?
Tumblr media
iv.
“You look like you could use some rest,” Y/N called out. When Keith lowered his sword, he could see her leaning against the doorway, still dressed in the gown she had worn for their meeting with the ambassadors of the planets they had just rescued.
“Seriously, Keith, have you gotten any sleep since…” She trailed off when Keith narrowed his eyes in her direction. “I’m sorry. I just worry.”
“We aren’t replacing Shiro,” he told her angrily. “I don’t care if it means losing Voltron. We aren’t replacing him.”
Y/N looked taken aback, as if she were surprised that Keith would speak to her like that. Honestly? It surprised Keith too.
Y/N had been the one to help him search for Shiro ever since the battle, she was one of the only people who hadn’t given up. And this was how he was treating her?”
“Sorry,” he whispered, averting his gaze.
“Keith, I know how you feel,” Y/N sighed, walking over and placing a hand on his shoulder. He hated to admit it, but her touch felt comforting. “When I met you all and found out what happened to the old Paladins, I didn’t want any of you anywhere near the lions. I didn’t want to replace the Paladins of old…”
He glanced at her, wondering where she was taking this. “But we must do what’s best for the universe. That is our role as Paladins. Even after such a great loss, we must continue fighting. And while I didn’t know Shiro for long, I know that’s what he would want us to do.”
Part of him wanted to shout, to tell her that she didn’t know anything about Shiro. But when he looked into her eyes, he could see the concern, he could see that she cared - almost just as much as he did.
“He’s not gone,” Keith whispered. “He… he can’t be.”
Y/N frowned, but pulled Keith into her embrace nonetheless. He just stood there for a moment, before dropping his head to rest his forehead against her shoulder. “I’m sure Shiro is still out there, and we will find him. I know it,” Y/N spoke softly. “But right now, we need a Paladin for the Black Lion. The Empire won’t wait for us to find Shiro.”
As he pulled away, Y/N stared at him, a sad smile on her face.
Realising just how close they were, a blush crept onto Keith’s face. But instead of moving back, he just stayed there. However, when she began to lean in, he quickly stepped away. “I’m sorry for shouting at you,” he sighed, looking away.
“Oh… You don’t have to be,” she told him. “He’s like a brother to you. Just like Allura and I. If she disappeared like Shiro… I’d be acting the exact same right now.”
They both went silent for a minute, before Keith suddenly headed for the door. “Where are you-?”
Y/N’s voice was drowned out as the door to the training room shut behind him, but instead of waiting for her, he just continued toward the Black Lion’s hangar.
He didn’t mean to brush her off like that, but maybe it was better this way.
Tumblr media
v.
“Keith, where were you?”
He pulled the hood of the Blades uniform off his head as he turned to look at Y/N. He could practically feel the anger radiating off her as she held tightly onto the helmet of her own paladin armour.
They had been drifting since the lion switch, now that they didn’t share a lion. And then even more when Keith took a step back to work with the Blade of Marmora. He was sure she hadn’t even noticed - not when she had been so busy working with Voltron or bonding with Lance, who now shared the Red Lion with her.
“I’m-”
“We needed your help back there,” Y/N pointed out. “Keith, Voltron needs a leader. We cannot-”
“Can you stop?!”
Y/N’s eyes widened slightly, before they shifted into a glare. “Excuse me?”
Keith, who usually would have been surprised at the tone in his voice, simply met her eyes with a glare of his own. “It seems like all you want to do is snap at me recently!”
“Maybe you deserve it! You’re our leader, the Paladin of the Black Lion. And yet, you’re never here. You continue to run off with the Blade of Marmora, like their errand boy… The Blade doesn't need you as much as we do.”
Y/N had a good point, he was supposed to be their leader and he wasn’t around to actually lead. But he had let Lance get in his head, how there were too many Paladins and not enough Lions. And now that Shiro had reconnected with the Black Lion, well… Keith didn’t have to pretend to be the leader he wasn’t meant to be.
“I need to be with the Blade of Marmora right now, they-”
“You need to be with us, Keith,” Y/N told him. For a moment, he let himself believe that she was saying that because she needed him. “The universe needs Voltron.”
But he let himself believe in a lie. The truth was, Y/N was already leaving just like everybody else in his life. And it’d just be easier to push her further away.
“I have to go.” He pushed past her, about to leave the hallway, when he heard Y/N scoff from behind him.
“Fine. Run, like you always do. I guess we just don’t matter to you after all.”
Keith looked over his shoulder, opening his mouth to say something. But he could see Y/N’s figure already retreating down the hall.
He lurked around in the castle for a little while before finally heading to the bridge, where the entire team was waiting for an explanation. The words seemed to come better to him there than they did when he was in the hallway with Y/N just an hour ago.
And he fessed up, about how him being absent allowed Shiro to reconnect with the Black Lion, and how he had made the decision to join one of the Blades missions to infiltrate the Galra’s quintessence supply line.
“It could take weeks, maybe months to pull off, but… if there is a chance, we have- I have to take it,” he spoke. “I need to be on that mission.”
He could feel everyone’s eyes on him, so he continued. “Shiro, you are the rightful leader of this team,” he stated. “And you proved it today by reconnecting with the Black Lion. It was always meant to be yours.”
“Keith…” Shiro stepped forward, gently placing his hand on the boy’s shoulder. “If this is what you feel is right, then we won’t try to stop you. But just know that we’re here for you whenever you need us.”
“I know you are,” Keith smiled. “And I can’t tell you how much that means to me.”
Shiro pulled him into a hug, one that the entire team joined in on. Except Y/N, who started heading for the door, refusing to even look in his direction.
“Y/N-”
“She will come around,” Allura sighed, watching her friend leave the room as an awkward silence began to loom over them.
Keith frowned, staring at the closed door. He needed to leave soon, there wasn’t enough time for him to run after her right now, no matter how much he wanted to. So with a sigh, he turned back to the team, forcing a smile onto his face as he did so.
He had hoped to leave without so many regrets weighing him down. That had been a foolish dream clearly.

And She Dresses Like a Scoundrel
Engineer/Spy, 2k
Part of the DontNeedADiscord Pride Week, Day 4: Fashion
“Thank you, Engineer,” I said gratefully, accepting back the once again functional disguise kit.
“No problem, partner,” he replied, gracious as ever. “Must have been a hard three days without it.”
“Indeed.” I sighed, recalling how many sentries had gotten the better of me with a grimace. “To think, less than a year ago I was relying entirely on my own skills of camouflage to create my disguise. I would even do it for fun! But here I am, ten months working for BLU and I’ve become completely dependent on their technology.” Another sigh, this time more beleaguered. “Truly, I have let myself slip.”
“I wouldn’t go that far, Spy,” he said, consoling.
I raised my hand. “No need to be patronizing, my friend. I know the writing on the wall.” I waved, preparing to exit his workshop. “Thank you again for the repair, Engineer.”
But as I was halfway to the door, Engie blurted, “why don’t you?”
“Come again?” I asked, turning around.
“Why don’t you make your own disguises anymore?” he repeated, seemingly genuinely confused.
“As I said, I haven’t needed to,” I shrugged. “And thus, my skills have lapsed.”
“But if it was for fun, why’d you stop?”
At that I paused. It had been fun, one of my greatest prides was coming up with a new face and a new identity to fit any particular occasion. There was no greater joy than reintroducing yourself to someone under a new guise and seeing them have no idea.
“…I’m not sure,” I said honestly. “Probably because, despite my enjoyment, I associated the activity exclusively with work.”
That satisfied his curiosity, though it did make him rather dour. “Makes sense.” He thought for a moment. “But you could always pick it back up again?”
“I’d be horridly out of practice,” I waved off.
“So? We all gotta start somewhere.”
I tilted my head. “Why does this interest you so?”
He pushed up his goggles, chewing on some thought until it left a peculiar look about his face. “Just seems a shame,” he said eventually, “All that talent going to waste. You seem mighty busy all the time, never see you do anything just because you enjoy it.”
I pressed my lips together. There was a certain truth to that, and I wondered internally if I was being resistant for no reason. “...Hm. I... suppose you are right. Even if I do have access to a near flawless disguise kit, there’s no reason to set it aside entirely.”
“There you go! You sound gung-ho already.”
I didn’t, but he was familiar with my habit of faint praise to cover up genuine enthusiasm. “I appreciate the suggestion,” I told him honestly. “…Maybe when you see me next, you won’t even know it is I.”
Engie grinned, and it was charming how vicious he looked when he was trying to be encouraging. “Looking forward to it.”
Of my old wigs, only the black one with its loose curls had managed to survive its year in storage. Even still, there was frizz on a good portion of it, and after a half hour of teasing I gave up and began tearing apart the rest of my wardrobe for something to lesson its imperfections. What I found was a scarf, red and silken, and decided it would have to do.
A full-length buttoned coat, and pair of striped legs. Yes, these would be serviceable.
But first, makeup . I remembered that much at least, though I failed to recall the first rule of application: always begin with the eyes. The result was that I was left with a perfect pair of heart lips and a disgusting smudge across my sockets, the latter of which I had no interest in starting over on. Instead, I retrieved a pair of sunglasses from my trunk. I deserved to cut a few corners after so long, and anyone who said differently could try their makeup after a year without practice and see if they could do better.
When I was done, a perfectly lovely woman stared back at me. The stare turned into a frown. A perfectly lovely woman a year out of fashion. What was I wearing? Leggings? Good god, those were on the way out last fall.
I began to examine myself in the mirror, cursing myself for ever becoming so woefully outdated. I’d had my finger in the crease of Dapper Cadaver without pause for the past hundred issues, but I hadn’t even bothered to pick up a single magazine on women’s fashion? Disgraceful. Something would have to be done about this.
By the time I made it down to breakfast, someone had already made the first pot of the morning. I filled a mug and sat down.
Medic didn’t so much as blink. He lifted his eyes, greeting, “Guten Morgen, Herr Spy,” and returned to his medical notes. By the spots of blood, they were likely fresh.
Soldier was another story. “By God! You finally did it, Nurse,” he said, gripping the back of Medic’s chair and shaking him slightly. “You turned Spy into a woman!”
“I did not,” Medic said, peeling one of Soldier’s hands off his shoulder. He then considered for a moment, and addressed me, “unless this is your way of making a statement?”
“Non,” I shook my head. “Not entirely, at least. Soldier is right, but this is not permanent: I simply wished to get back into a more…flexible mode of presentation.” I paused for a second. “What did he mean by ‘finally’?”
“Are you implying I have been working secretly in my lab for the past two years on some sort of sex-change ray that would be sure to result in wacky hijinxs should it ever be completed?” Medic sipped his coffee. “Because I’m not and that is ridiculous.”
“…I see.”
If Soldier’s reaction was passionate, Engineer’s was somehow even more so. Before he even fully entered the kitchen, he stopped dead, his eyes locked on me. A few times he tried to speak, failed, and settled for scratching the back of his neck.
“Seems like you took my advice on the whole disguise work,” he said eventually. Now he had trouble looking at me altogether, a deep blush forming along his cheeks.
“I did,” I smirked, amused at his state. “Though unfortunately I’ve found my current wardrobe is not what I’d like it to be. I was hoping to use today’s ceasefire to do some shopping.”
“You want some company?” he asked, then immediately got flustered again. “Just uh…cause I know you don’t like taking your car though all the dust ‘less you absolutely have to, and nearest city with a shopping mall is pretty far…”
“Ah, so you are offering to drive,” I mused. “And here I thought you believed I suddenly needed assistance carrying my bags.”
Medic snorted, though when Engie shot him a glare he showed no indication he’d even been listening.
“…I can give you a lift, sure,” the Engineer affirmed slowly, still frowning offendedly in Medic’s direction.
“That is unacceptable!” Soldier chimed, brining his fist down on the table and making the silverware tinkle. “You two are not yet married! You think you can just go on a trip into town while unchaperoned? It is indecent!”
Engie sputtered, losing the bit of coffee he’d had the misfortune of drinking. “Soldier! What hell are you talking about?” he sputtered. “That ain’t- it’s still just Spy.”
“Exactly,” Soldier agreed. “That is why the two of you cannot be left alone together. Do not worry! I volunteer to accompany you on this shopping trip.”
Medic was laughing, having a much more difficult time hiding it now.
I grinned placidly. “You heard the man, Engineer,” I said. “It would go against decency to be about without a chaperone.”
“Fine,” he said, pulling his helmet further over his eyes. “Guess I’ll make the truck up for three.”
As much as I wanted to see if he would pop like a balloon if any more blood went to his face, I decided he’d had enough for the morning. I kept our conversation within acceptable subjects on the way up, and refrained from commenting on his new collection of odd mannerisms. It was quite adorable actually, especially when Soldier would lean out of the back seat every now and then to remind him ‘no funny business’.
When arriving at the glorious superplex that was the Santa Fe outdoor mall, the first thing on my agenda was a new jacket. The one extracted from the bowels of my old wardrobe was such a drab mauve, and with some help from the assistant at Loveman’s, I was able to find a few acceptable pantsuits. One could only expect “acceptable” when shopping chic in a department store—and a department store in America no less—but hopefully the rivers of fashion had trickled down enough that I wouldn’t embarrass myself too badly. The white plaid one was even quite fetching.
Next were hats.
“Engineer! Spy!” Soldier arrested our attention with. “I have located something I would like to purchase.”
He was wearing a newsboy hat over the top of his helmet.
“You needn’t ask us for permission,” I told him. “You have your own funds.”
He straightened like he honestly hadn’t thought of that. “Okay!” Then he was off again, sorting through the seemingly never-ending headwear.
“Some chaperone,” Engie remarked as he disappeared.
“I’m sure we can be trusted alone for but a few minutes,” I said, turning with a blue cloche hat in place. “What do you think of this one?”
“As pretty as the last. I mean-” He coughed. “Looks just fine.”
I smiled. “Here I thought you’d had enough teasing, but it seems you’re doing all the work for me.”
“Dang it Spy, I just meant-” He rubbed the bridge of his nose. “You know what, let’s just head to the jewelry.”
I shook my head. “Unfortunately jewelry is too much of a hazard. Rings and bracelets make removing gloves difficult, and necklaces are extremely useful for strangling your target from behind.”
“Terrifying that you put it like that, but remember you ain’t doing this for the job,” he prompted. “This is you getting a chance to try something different. D’ya want to wear a necklace?”
As he said it, he moved closer to the jewelry counter. I followed him, peering through the glass at all the trinkets I usually dismissed when assembling a woman’s portfolio. They were lovely…
“Mademoiselle,” I called to the woman behind the counter. “Might I be able to try this on?”
Engie whistled. “Nice choice.”
“I happen to have exquisite taste in jewelry,” I told him, gazing at my reflection in the glass as it wore the blue teardrop pendant I had picked out. “Both when selecting for a lover, or for myself.”
The attendant gave me an odd look, but it was worth it to see Engineer chuckle in a way that no longer uncomfortable.
“I have located another!” Soldier informed us as we took our bag. This time he was wearing a Viking helmet. From where he had obtained it, I had no idea.
“Then finish up paying,” Engie said. “We’re heading out soon.”
“Not so fast, Engineer,” I stopped him as he’d taken a step toward the door. “We still have not gotten anything for you.”
“Me?” he balked, craning his neck around like he was suddenly intimidated by the voluptuous mannequins surrounding us. “I don’t need nothin’…”
“And why not?” I asked. “We have dedicated the whole morning to me, and Soldier is finding ways to entertain himself, why shouldn’t you acquire something nice?”
“I…”
“Please, my friend,” I said. “My treat.”
“…Alright,” he sighed. “Sorry Sol, looks like-”
Soldier had acquired a bowler hat, which he wore on top of his Viking helm.
“-Well okay then.”
The Engineer provided an interesting challenge. The first thing I noticed was that everything in his size was far too long for him, and it made me question how he’d even found fitting clothes in the first place when everything in the store simply wanted to fall off him in tubes. He explained that he usually had to hem up his pants after buying them. I thought that was adorable, to which he muttered a string of ‘aw shucks’.
In a montage where Engie grew more flustered by the minute, I managed to get him into a delightful pair of corduroy pants with a mustard button down, an orange sweater with matching slacks, and a simple floral print button down that might go under his overalls. However, my absolute favorite was-
“Well now you’re just being rude,” he said, holding up the jacket.
“Howdy partner,” I mimicked. “Why don’t we just give up?”
“I don’t sound like that,” he complained. “And I definitely don’t wear things like this.”
The cowboy leathers were the sort of pink you saw from a mile away, genuine cow hide wasted on the monstrosity in his hands. There were more tassels than a man could ever want, and they went wonderfully with the white chaps and matching white Stetson.
“This is an eyesore,” he said.
“So are your regular clothes,” I reflected. “Please, I only ask that you try them on.”
He grumbled, and stepped into the changing room. That was good. I’d hate to have to bring out the, ‘for me?’.
“It’s certainly…something,” I said six minutes later.
“A trainwreck,” Engie said.
“You’re smiling,” I pointed out.
He grinned a little wider. He turned in a circle, the hundreds of tassels swishing around him, and then for good measure did a little two-step. I couldn’t help but chuckle with a hand over my mouth.
A shopper with a mustache passed by and gave us a strange look, and for some reason I started laughing harder.
“What’s got you so tickled?” Engie inquired.
“Nothing,” I waved off with a smile. “I was just thinking: after the thirty-five times the two of use have appeared in public together, this the first that you’re the queer one.”
He paused for a moment, looking down at himself. “Heh, I guess so.” Then he started to laugh. “…So. You been counting the number of times we’ve gone out together?”
“Is it so odd that I enjoy your company?
“No but…” he studied me for a moment. “Would you like to do this again some time? Assuming we can ditch the chaperone.”
“Mr. Conagher, how scandalous!” I said with mock horror. “I thought you’d never ask.”
He gave me one of those charming smiles again, and my heart fluttered ever so slightly.
Soldier greeted us on the way out, hat boxes stacked so high we couldn’t see his face anymore. “Operation successful! Move out troops!”
“Soldier,” Engie asked as he began securing boxes in the back of his pickup so there wouldn’t be a colossal hat pileup on the highway, “how long until you stop following my ‘n Spy around?”
“I do not know. Spy! How long are you going to be a women?”
I adjusted my new hat in the side mirror. “Until I feel otherwise.”
“Well then there you go!” Soldier declared. “It is perfectly acceptable for two unmarried men to be alone together, so you may resume making moon eyes at each other then.”
That, for once, got us both to flush.

Mall is Life | INTRO : She’s Broke, He’s Broke, We’re All Broke!
Tumblr media
Summary: Your dad thinks it’s best for you to pay off the credit card that you just maxed out. Meaning, it’s time for you to finally get your very first job…at the mall. As a true blue spoiled daughter from a very rich family, what could possibly happen? Form a labour union and overthrow the oppressive government with 7 other underpaid and overworked guys??? Or maybe just form a bond with them and have the best time of your life?
Pairing: bts x reader
Genre: mall!au, lowkey a sitcom, fluff, eventual angst, and a whole lot of pure crack
Word count: 5.3k+
Notes: As I’m doing final rewrites for this, I overheard my co-teacher call one of our students a “crack” and I honestly have never related hard to a student. Anyways, transferring this from gdocs to tumblr took sooooo long. I literally aged 10 years. I didn’t think writing in this style would be such a pain so I really do hope you enjoy this! Keep safe and hang on while the world still seems like it’s on its way to destruction.

Red
Red is all you see.
Your vision has been clouded by the colour red since the moment you stepped inside the mall.
Sale season is upon you and red tags are everywhere!
Buy one get one for a girlfriend sized “boyfriend t-shirt”, a free cookie if you get 7 drinks, 5% off on your next purchase from Kucci and… Gasp! 75% off for a light sabre handheld immersion blender???
Do you even cook or watch Star Trek or whatever it’s called? Heck no.
bUT IT’S MORE THAN HALF OFF and it looks cool so might as well get it.
Right?
You saunter off towards the sights of free or marked down signs to start making damages.
“Ehem.”
The sound of your best friend, Taehyung’s voice, freezes you in place and you feel like a kid caught in the act of stealing a candy.
Literally, you have both your hands in front of you with your mouth open and watering.
“Just what do you think you’re doing?” His hands are placed on his hips, like a slightly inconvenienced Karen.
“Oh, uh...I was just, you know!? About to admire the general splendour!”
He was like, ya right sweetie.
“Shut up. This isn’t a Jane Austen book.”
Well, one can dream.
And lowkey, you were kinda expecting him to not get the reference.
…or even understand what you just said.
Damn.
You really need to give Taehyung some credit.
He is after all, your best friend and that is an achievement in itself.
“Focus, y/n. FOCUS. We’re here on a mission, don’t get distracted.”
Ugh, right.
Reality hit you again like a ton of bricks.
“And as if you can afford anything! Unless, you’re in for some service water.”
You scoff hard.
Though he isn’t lying.
See, the thing is, your family is rich.
Like rich 𝑹𝑰𝑪𝑯.
Like “rent a whole stadium for your dad’s morning run” rich
You, alone, though?
ʰᵉ ʰᵉ ʰᵉ
“Sorry, you’re absolutely right. We’re here for one thing only and that is to find a job! We’re not leaving until we get one.”
And that’s what you did for the next two hours
Job hunting
You might be wondering, “If we're so rich then why are we looking for a job?”
Well kids, let me tell you a quick story.
Here’s what happened
A week ago, you had probably the most embarrassing yet most eye opening experience of your life.
You were shopping
(like duh do you have anything else to do?)
And your credit card got…
Wait for it…
…………….
🚫DECLINED🚫
◉.◉
Like, that can happen????
Next thing you know, you’re on the phone with your dad and he is MAD
You don’t even know why he is so pressed about it.
Okay, so you maxed out one of his seemingly endless supply of credit cards.
BIG DEAL.
It’s not like he lost a bunch of money.
Maybe to a normal person, yeah…
BUT to you guys?
Come on! He can earn that money back in like two days.
Besides, he always goes on saying that he'd willingly give everything for you, his one and only princess.
bUT NOoOOoo! He has to teach you to be rEsPoNsIbLe with money! You need to be a 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏.
"What? You think I'm a money making machine here?"
Well, tbh he kinda is.
"You think money grows on trees?"
Well, technically, money is paper so...ya it kinda does.
"I don't slave around just so you could plunge yourself in all of your whims!"
Uh, actually.
You kinda do though if we refer back to your whole willingly-give-everything-to-you shtick.
So that wasn't real, huh?
ALL MEN DO IS LIE.
smh
Taehyung, on the other hand...
Well, his mother’s old but rich sugar daddy just recently passed away and unfortunately all his money and prized possessions were inherited by his one and only beloved son.
All they got was a couple of stupid jewelry, which did allow them to pay for a new (less glamorous) apartment, but still
Eh.
What a complete disappointment.
11+ years of being a sugar baby, all for nothing.
So now it’s back to the slums for the both of them.
Sad reacs for a fallen warrior.
I’m talking about Tae’s mother, not the sugar daddy...
THOUGh rip for him. Uh,,,,
He’ll be missed? I guess???
(1 like of this post = 1 respect for him)
DW about his mother though. She doesn’t seem quite fazed by it.
“This is why if you find a rich old bastard, make sure he doesn’t have any kids. That or have an affair with their kid. Oh well, on to the next one.” She told you and Tae during the funeral.
It’s been three months since.
She’s currently working at a hair salon and also,,,,
Taehyung thinks she’s seeing someone again cause she’s been using her designated “𝑠𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔” parfum.
WHICH you still don’t know if you should be impressed or be concerned about.
Nonetheless, you respect the hustle of this woman. ✊✊✊✊
Unfortunately, her efforts are still not enough to satisfy their expensive needs so that brings us to the present situation.
Actually, it couldn’t have been more perfect though!
You and your best friend coincidentally just happen to be in the same dilemma.
Kind of
Well, not really
Plus, it’s not really the most pleasant circumstance bUT STILL
The point is, you’re in this together and that’s enough for the both of you.
:’)
“Ugh, this totally blows.” Taehyung says as you both sit on one of the food court booths.
“Which one, us not getting any jobs yet or the fact that we’re hanging at the food court?”
“Get used to it, princess. Honestly, you'll find that the food here isn't as disgusting as you think they are." He says as he fishes for his phone in his man purse.
"Well, at this rate, I won't be able to get used to it since I sTILL haven't found a job. Why are the good stores so demanding? Like, an intensive classroom and in-store training only to have a possibility to get hired??? To think that I'm a loyal Louie Button customer!"
(A/n: This is actually a real procedure for Louis Vuitton, at least in my own experience. But I only applied and never went through with the training cause I figured that it just ain't for me.)
You continue ranting your little heart out about how you could sue these stores for unfair treatment.
Taehyung, though, has long tuned you out and has pointed his full attention to his phone.
This is turning out to be a lot more disastrous than what he anticipated.
So he needs to phone a friend in.
Orrrrr a couple.
He's getting desperate, okay??
The entire spring collection was practically screaming out to him when they entered Kucci.
He's a 𝓚𝓾𝓬𝓬𝓲 𝓫𝓸𝔂 through and through.
He hasn't missed a single Kucci season collection in years.
IN YEARS, PEOPLE!
He can feel his right eye twitch at this blasphemy.
"I'm telling you! These stores are absolutely ungrateful-hEY! Are you even listening??"
"No. I thought that was obvious the second I whipped my phone out."
( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)
Rude
He didn't even try to deny it.
"You know, I really don't need you to be mean to me right now."
"Sorry y/n but this…" He lifts his phone up, "is more important right now."
What could possibly be more important than your current problem??
If you don't leave today with any form of productivity, you just might have to sell the entirety of your closet.
And we all know that ain't happening.
"By 'that', you mean?"
His phone vibrates a couple of times, indicating that he just received a bunch of messages.
He instantly opens them, disregarding you once again.
I-
Seriously, thIS bOy!
"Hello???? I'm still here and we're still hideously unemployed!"
He looks up to you with a smile that seems a tad bit too eerie.
Okay, this is somewhat alarming ngl.
"I called in some reinforcements."
Reinforcements... Huh?
What's that supposed to mean?
You stare at him with scrunched brows and mouth slightly agape.
And as if on cue, a male voice rings from behind you.
"Tae! We're here!"
"Jimin! Seokjin hyung!"
Ohhhhhhh
*Looks at the camera*
Them.
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
For everyone's information, Taehyung grew up a hair away from the poverty line.
He was in his preteen years when their family found success through his mother's sugar daddy.
He didn't grow up rich whICH there's NOthing wrong WiTh THAT.
A person's financial status does not define them.
Taehyung's friends, however, already have a collective definition in your head.
One word
༼ つ ◕◡◕ ༽つ MESS™
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
A hot mess you are so not willing to become a part of.
Tae keeps them away from you because he knows that they are not the type of people you would associate yourself with.
Which is why you've never met any of them.
...Until today.
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
Guess being besties with a broke Taehyung means it only makes sense that you finally meet them.
♫︎dUN dUn- ok that's enough of that.
"We got the Code 17 message. I can't believe I'll ever get that from you. This is history, man! We need to celebrate!" Someone says accompanied by what sounds like someone wiping a window.
You look at Taehyung with a very displeased look.
May god and every higher being out there give you strength.
He doesn't even look the slightest bit bothered by what might be one of the boldest crossovers to ever happen.
Also, "Code 17"??? Wth?
"What's wrong? You never ask to meet at the food court… And who's this with--oh." A different, softer voice talks this time.
"You guys remember my bestie, right? Y/n? Well, I think it's time you guys finally meet."
From behind you, Seokjin and Jimin share a slightly wary yet excited look.
Jimin, being the natural people lover that he is, instantly thinks that he's about to have another best friend.
From what he's heard from Taehyung, you two are slightly alike, being a total softie.
So don't be surprised if a montage of things like the two of you going on picnics at the mall garden or watching the premiere of the next Disney movie plays in his head.
Seokjin, on the other hand, being the woman lover that he is, instantly thinks that he's about to score big time.
He's heard a lot about you from Tae but the only thing that stuck (and pretty much the only thing that matters) is that you are HELLA rich.
$ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕓𝕒𝕓𝕪 $
So are we even surprised that what he imagines is him breezing through the luxury section of the mall, with his personal butlers in tow, and having everyone swoon at him?
“Y/n,” Taehyung gives you a pointed look as if telling you to be nice. “Meet Seokjin hyung and Jimin, two of my other best friends.”
Alright, you heard that these people work here at the mall.
So you’re gonna have to suck it up if it means being stuck with them for god knows how long.
You just hope they have some level of bearableness.
(Oh and some form of acceptable fashion taste too please, thank you very much!)
As much as you're not in the mood to smile, you still plaster on the sweetest one you can muster and turn around to face the two----
Oh
(o.O)
oh oh oh oh ho ho ho ho
Hello
hELLO indeed.
One of them has a white button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black slim fit trousers, and a brown newsboy cap like a cherry on top.
He's also wearing a brown apron with a small name tag that says 𝓙𝓲𝓶𝓲𝓷.
The other guy's more casual with his baby pink t-shirt, french tucked into his black ripped skinny jeans.
Personally, you wouldn’t really call them amazing outfits…
bUT SWEET BABY JESUS ARE THEY DOING THINGS.
GREAT THINGS
(Tbh maybe it’s their handsome faces that do it for you)
"Hi, I'm Jimin! It's very nice to finally meet you."
He extends his hand and you take it in a heartbeat because my god that smile.
Wooooooooooo
Now, that's what greets you into heaven.
"Tae says a lot of good things about you and I think- oof."
Cute pink shirt guy (rudely) shoves him to the side.
Jimin almost topples to the ground and it makes you want to stand and check up on him.
The poor cutie.
For some reason, you feel like Taehyung and pink shirt guy get along well.
"AND I'M Seokjin!"
This time, Seokjin swiftly takes your hand without any warning which leaves you feeling flustered.
“Umm… Nice to meet you..?” You manage to politely croak out.
He gives your hand a kiss and then drops you a sultry wink.
Thank god you're sitting right now.
You'd be a lying fool to say that that didn't make your knees weak.
But ngl, that’s a face that definitely greets you into hell.
Like, no offense to his handsome face but you are sure there’s something completely devious going on underneath.
No one can change your mind on that.
"OKAY! Enough introductions, we’ll have plenty of time for that later... Where are the others??”
“Hoseok hyung said that he's with Jungkook and they're on their way to get Namjoon hyung." Jimin says as he fixes his hat that slightly slid off.
"Well, they better hurry!"
Taehyung DEFINITELY did not have any reasons to cut your introductions off.
He just did not like how you are practically drooling over Jimin and Seokjin.
He’s nOT JEALOUS OR ANYTHING
It’s just...
It’s not like you’ve never been close to any hot guys before.
Uh hello???
HE’S HOT
And you’re with him 24/7
Wait…
Do you even think he’s hot???
Okay now that’s a thought he never considered before.
Damn bro
Now Tae’s having an existential crisis…
anD hE’s dEfiniTEly NOT jEALous!!!
ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
"WE'RE HERE!"
All four of you direct your heads to the sound of a new voice and you start to think that Taehyung might actually be playing a joke on you.
Come on!
THREE 👏  MORE 👏  HOT 👏 GUYS  👏
???
This can't be real.
This is literal heaven!
Gasp!
Are.
You.
DEAD?!
Maybe you're right about Jimin being what greets you into heaven!
It all makes sense.
“Dude, we came as soon as we could. We even pulled Namjoon out of his rabbit hole.” The handsome one wearing a sports jersey says.
“This better be important. I didn’t even get to ask permission to take a break! I’m supposed to be stocking utensils right now.” The handsome one wearing an atrocious outfit of a bright blue shirt and a much brighter yellow pants chimes in.
The handsome one wearing loose fitting jeans, a plaid button up and a black t-shirt underneath just stayed at the sidelines not saying anything.
Out of all of them, you think he’s the most stylish one.
Your eyes meet while you are assessing his outfit but he instantly looks away.
A noticeable blush blooms on his cheeks and you almost swoon.
Awww he’s extra cute.
“Yeah, cause organising cutlery is more important than a friend in a literal crisis.” Taehyung says in a sarcastic tone.
“So what are we doing here?”
“What is this ‘crisis’ you are referring to?”
“Yo, who is she?”
Namjoon, Jin, and handsome jersey boy all talk at the same time.
Ugh you need a massage.
Being surrounded by these broke handsome men is making you lightheaded.
“This is Y/n. You know, my other best friend.”
“Oh, your money buddy.” Handsome jersey boy butts in.
Uh EXCUSE YOU, WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
You scoff hard and loud.
Taehyung clears his throat and you thought he was going to make a comment defending you or something.
Oh honey, you are wrong.
Because for the nth time today, he just brushes you off.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Anyways, Guys, meet Y/n. Y/n, this is Hoseok hyung, Namjoon hyung, and Jungkook.”
You didn't think it'd be possible but for the first time ever, you so badly want to rip someone's hair out.
And not just someone, it's Taehyung.
Normally, a sassy, moody, rude boy Taehyung doesn’t affect you at all.
But then again, his negative vibes were never really directed to you.
And given the current circumstance, you’re also not in the best mood as well.
So you aren't as inviting as you usually are when you shook hands with the three boys.
Somehow, even their overflowing handsomeness did not do anything for you now.
Your presence, however, did something to the three boys.
AND I MEAN A LOT.
Confused, attracted, intimidated, confused, in awe, slightly scared, nervous, confused, hungry…
What? Hoseok hasn’t had lunch and coincidentally, he started feeling his tummy rumble when he looked at you.
…..
Fun fact: Hoseok is DEFINITELY NOT A CANNIBAL NOR HE EVER PLANS ON BEING ONE.
If ever you were thinking...
“Okay, so here’s the sitch.” Tae starts to explain your situation and everyone listens to him intently.
Little did you all know, the final member of the friend group just arrived at the food court and is now walking towards where you all are.
It wasn’t difficult to spot your group with Namjoon’s obnoxiously brightly coloured towering self and the few girls hanging around.
Probably Jimin’s fanclub.
“And so, here we are!” Tae finishes, keeping everyone updated.
"Wow, so you two are looking for an actual job? Like, here? At the mall??" A very baffled Seokjin asks.
Tae rolls his eyes.
"Yes. Is that really hard to believe?"
"Actually, yes. It is."
Another male voice is heard coming from someplace.
“Yoongi hyung!”
Oh great! Another one.
Surely, this guy’s not that interesting.
I mean, what are the fricking odds that he’s also an immaculate being??
You turn around and your mouth drops to the floor.
No no no no no.
No way!
Another freaking gOOD LOOKING GUY HAS WALKED UP TO YOUR GROUP.
Okay, this is getting unbelievable now.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Like, where and how on earth did Taehyung manage to get and round up SIX insanely good looking guys??
What is this? Are you on The Bachelorette??
Wait no
It's like Oprah!
And instead of cars, she's giving away handsome men
You get a hot Asian man, you get a hot Asian man, you all get a hot Asian man!
OR MAYBE
Are you on MTV Punk'd?????
Statistically speaking, a hot guy can have two or maybe three equally hot best friends
BUT SIX???
ARE YOU KIDDING?
Is Taehyung like Thanos? Collecting the six infinity stones?
Thanos? lol.
If anything, he's more like Henry VIII with his six wives.
“So you guys didn’t even wait for me, huh?”
Yoongi, oh so casually, just takes a seat beside you
Without even giving you a single glance or whatnot.
“I didn’t know you'd be here at the mall today?”
“Yeah, what are you doing here?”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow. “It’s a free country, I can be here whenever I want to be.”
Well, can’t argue with that logic.
The mall is practically your second home at this point.
“... Also… uTunes is hiring and uh… I’m applying...”
You don’t understand why but everyone else looks either shocked or annoyed at Yoongi’s announcement...
Are you missing something here?
“Man, you need to give it up! That place can suck it.”
Yoongi gives Seokjin one of the scariest glare you’ve ever seen.
It could rival against your dad’s famous death glares that he gives to his incompetent subordinates.
Namjoon shakes his head disapprovingly, “You’re applying there again?? I can’t believe it.”
Yes, again.
This is going to be the seventh time he’s applying at uTunes Records, the most popular music shop there is.
So many people flock to it even though we’re already in the digital age.
But he doesn’t question it.
All he cares about is getting a job there because the employees get to play their own music in the store.
Do you know how much of a popularity boost that is?
A CRAP TON.
On top of that, one of the employees gets a chance to get signed by a record label every year.
And if you're not awarded by that chance, you can still meet agents and get signed through their many parties.
Because of that, so many people also apply for a job there.
But they unfortunately have such high standards which is why even after three years, he still hasn’t passed their vibe check.
"Listen, seven's a lucky number. I have great feelings about this one. Besides, I've built up a strong résumé. Winning one of uTunes' own rookie dj contests must mean something, right? They can't not take me!"
Wow.
You've only known Yoongi for a solid three minutes, but you can already tell that he's quite passionate about this.
"Hyung, all we're saying is that maybe you should consider doing something else? You could do so much more than run after that store." Jimin says and pats Yoongi's hand a couple of times.
"All of you perfectly know getting a job there could quite possibly set my music career!"
"Is that really it? Or is it because of a certain Daphne??" Seokjin teases him.
The rest just mutters an "ooh" or an "aah".
You seem to have been turned into an accessory.
You so cannot relate to anything they've talked about since Yoongi came.
It's like you're at one of your dad's social gatherings and all you can do is smile and nod.
"ANYWAY," Yoongi interjects in their teasing. "So Tae, you're also looking for a job?"
Jeez FINALLY.
Something you can talk about that involves you.
It felt like you were just back home watching some random show that doesn't require your input.
Taehyung gives an overly dramatic heavy sigh.
"Unfortunately, yes. Y/n and I both need one badly. But all the stores had been rejecting us left and right. Like, the audacity!" Taehyung rants all over again.
Jimin, listens to him intently as if he hasn't heard all of this before.
Seokjin seems to have been entertaining the surrounding ladies for a while now.
[by giving some ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎ and some (•̀ᴗ-)☞  ]
Across the table, Namjoon complains to Hoseok about getting in trouble with his boss.
Jungkook, well, he's just staring at the beautiful pizza this kid next to you guys is eating. (Someone's hungry too, okay?)
While Yoongi just openly stares at you.
Welp.
What the frick are you supposed to do now?
Is Taehyung or anyone going to properly introduce you two?
No???
Okay fine.
Seems like you're gonna have to get used to doing things on your own.
You smile at him and timidly hold your hand out.
"Uh hi. I'm Y/n. I don't know if Tae's ever mentioned me to you before but--"
"Oh, trust me. He's mentioned you plenty. He actually never shuts up about you."
ʰᵉʰ
Ok
You don't really know if he was stating that as a fact or if he's trying to be mean…
"Oh ha ha… That must be really annoying then."
"Yeah, it is actually."
Your small polite chuckle died down your throat.
Wow and you thought Taehyung can be rude.
hE'S STILL JUST STARING.
"Uh…" You finally lowered your hand that he obviously isn't going to shake.
That is definitely going in your top 10 most embarrassing moments ever.
God, can someone get you away from this guy?
What's his problem?
"SO, can any one of you help us? Like, any tips or something?" Tae concludes his really long and repetitive rant.
Everyone's eyes FINALLY focuses on Tae again.
Seokjin snorts loudly.
Eww.
He opens his mouth to say something but Tae immediately holds his hand up to stop him.
"Anyone except you hyung. I don't think you're classified."
Everyone laughs to that and again,
ARE YOU MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING HERE?
Seokjin raises one finger like he's trying to make a point. "If anyone is classified to give tips on how to get accepted, it's me!"
"Yeah, just not on how to last on one." Namjoon loudly whispers to Tae.
"HEY I HEARD THAT!"
Ohhh….
So,
Does he constantly get fired from a job?
Well, that's just sad.
Hopefully you don't end up like him.
😳
"Actually," Hoseok starts, "how do you end up landing on so many jobs? Like, don't they know your reputation?"
And that's your cue to finally insert yourself in the conversation.
"Uh, what reputation?"
"Sweetheart, you don't really want to know! It's not that big of a deal." Seokjin quickly steers you away from the topic but the other guys didn't allow it to happen.
"Oh, you know. Just that, he's known to be the "job eater" here. Cause he pretty much eats a job and moves on from it in a flash." Namjoon graciously fills you in.
So you were right.
That's kind of impressive though…
But a huge waste.
"Still! It makes me very much qualified to give the unemployed a tip!"
"Save it hyung, you might need it for your next job once you get fired from Uncle Aang's."
Seokjin gives everyone a sheepish smile.
What's that about?
It almost looks as if he…
"YOU GOT FIRED ALREADY?!"
"Oh you bet I did."
To be fair, how could he not stop himself from eating the free samples? Those pretzels are literal drugs.
"You just got that job four days ago. I can't believe it!"
"I can believe it." Yoongi says out loud.
Can't he say anything nice?
"Whatever! Point is, these stores still hire me no matter what."
"You know what, that is a good point." Taehyung mutters, slowly turning convinced by Seokjin.
Namjoon groans. "Are you for real Tae? If you want some job advice, maybe ask one from us who has only had one permanent job all throughout."
"Guys, let's give Seokjin hyung a chance!" Jimin, ever the sweet positive boy, suggests.
"Of course you would say that."
Not wanting to fade into nothingness, you insert yourself again in the conversation.
"I want to hear what he has to say."
Once those words left your mouth, you instantly regret it.
A.) Seokjin gives you another wink and gives you a flying kiss that has you weak in the knees again- I MEAN WHAT. I SAID NOTHING.
And B.) Yoongi is clearly not a fan of you sharing your opinions with the group.
Despite the obvious protests of Namjoon, Seokjin still gives his number one "professional" advice
And that is to have a perfectly 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 résumé.
"A high quality résumé? YOU? What the fuck are you talking about?" Yoongi says, slightly amused and slightly tired of the older guy's shenanigans.
"Don't believe me? Fine. But I'm telling you, it's all here on paper!" Seokjin takes out a folder from his backpack and waves it around.
Namjoon immediately snatches it from him
"5 pages long?? Are you for real?”
Seokjin hums and watches smugly with a cocky grin as the guys read through his résumé.
“Hang on, since when did you do balloon modelling?”
"I don't."
Hoseok gasps. "But bro, isn't that lying?"
"Yeah, duh! How else are these people gonna hire you? You have to sell them what they're looking for."
"What if they ask you to use these skills that you clearly don't have?"
"Then you're just gonna have to fake it till you make it, baby!"
Huh
No wonder he doesn't last long on a single job.
"And how's that working out for you?" Yoongi presses on.
"Well at least I get hired, Mr. 7th Time's the Charm!"
Yoongi is like ᶠⁱᵗᵉ ᵐᵉ ⁱ ʷᵒⁿ'ᵗ ʰᵉˢⁱᵗᵃᵗᵉ ᵇⁱᵗᶜʰ (ง'̀-'́)ง
"That's not really the point of having a job, but I guess, whatever floats your boat, dude!" Hoseok finally sides with Seokjin.
"So everyone is looking for a job then?" Taehyung realizes, "this is so cool if all of us get hired! We'll all face the real world together."
"All of us except Jungkook though."
Who?
Oh that extra cute shy boy.
You forgot he's here.
Boy really hasn't said a word at all.
"Did ya hear that? All of us are getting jobs!"
"You should get one too!"
"That would be so cool!"
"So what do you say? What are your plans Kook?"
"Guys, don't pressure the kid!"
The guys talk simultaneously, ultimately kind of pressuring Jungkook to say something before he even thinks about it.
The table falls silent and everyone eyes Jungkook.
The guys are like ( ・ิ ͜ʖ ・ิ) and ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)
Jungkook is like (ʘ ͟ʖ ʘ)
Then the guys are like (≖ ͜ʖ≖)
So jungkook is like (¬‿¬ )
In the end, they are all like
(☞°ヮ°)☞ ☜(°ヮ°☜)
And through it all, you are just ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
What the heck is going on?
"Yeah, why not?" Jungkook simply concludes and the guys make various celebrating noises.
Gasp!
He can talk???
"Okay, everyone calm down! Let's wait until after everyone gets hired before we celebrate." Namjoon scolds everyone.
"Well that might take a while considering Y/n and I can't find one!"
Namjoon places a comforting hand on Tae's shoulder. "Oh relax, there's like ten thousand stores in the mall!"
"Actually, there are only 613 stores in the entire mall." Hoseok points out a matter of factly.
You all look at him dumbfoundedly.
Aaaand he just stares back at all of you.
Is this some kind of trivia that you need to know if you work around here?
Are you gonna have to memorise a lot of facts about the mall???
Oh, you don't like that.
Seokjin was the first one to react.
"Dude?? What the hell?!"
"I got bored once while I was on a break and counted."
Huh.
Makes sense.
Yeah, sure.
Why not?
Why wouldn't you just go and count the total number of stores out of boredom???
…
THAT WAS A SARCASTIC REMARK IF YOU DIDN'T GET IT.
"Even if there are 600 stores here, there are only like, 20 good stores that exist!" Tae remarks
You want to say you can't agree more but you stop yourself because you don't think you can handle another cold stare from Yoongi.
"Are you perhaps pertaining to the high end stores?" Namjoon muses.
"Yeah. What else?"
Jimin's eyes widen in shock. "Hold on. So you two have only been looking at that small section of the entire mall?"
"Yeah. Why?"
Yoongi chuckles condescendingly.
"Bros, you know that saying… 'Beggars can't be choosers'?" Hoseok tries to enlighten you two.
You and Tae look at each other.
What an epiphany.
A very disgusting yet important epiphany.
"Are you… Are you guys saying that… We need to find a job… Outside of that section??"
They all nod.
Ughhhhhhh
You and Tae make an annoyed sound.
"Welcome to the real world, peasants!" Seokjin warmly tells you.
Could things get any worse?
"Hey, at least we'll all be here together!"
Ha ha
Great . Awesome. Wow.
"Well, on that note, I really need to get back to work. Lady and gentlemen, may the odds be ever in your favour. Good luck!"
Namjoon stands and walks away.
One by one, the other working guys went back to work as well, leaving you unemployed slackers.
Hey they didn't even give any actual help!
Wasn't that the reason why Tae called for a… What did they call it?
Code something something.
Oh whatever!
Anyways,
So to summarize things
You might end up working at an awful low end store.
And you're unwillingly stuck with the wrong set of people.
One of them is a total flirt and an actual pain to society.
Another one might possibly hate you for unknown reasons.
This tall dude seems to be really uptight.
Then there's this guy that seems really weird.
The other one, well… He's cute and doesn't really have any negative points yet BUT you're sure something's wrong with him.
And the last one literally said one thing during the entire time!
Oh, you've got a really really long way before you can pay your dad.
Good luck to you, indeed.

christmas eve—adrienette
Summary: Christmas Eve with the Dupain-Chengs is even better than what Adrien imagined.
Notes: A commission for @mlbforblm!
Word count: 1.2k (a significant amount longer than it was supposed to be... whoops?)
Adrien Agreste isn’t good with presents.
He supposes it runs in the family. After all, his father had gotten him ridiculously expensive pens three years in a row, a gift that took an embarrassingly little amount of thought even for his father—and he hadn’t even bothered to buy them himself. Then there was the one time he had initially thought his father had gotten him something worthwhile only to find out he had really done nothing at all—and stole the credit for Marinette’s gift.
So, yeah. Adrien’s been cursed with hereditary bad gift-buying genes, but he resolves that this time, it won’t be as bad.
He arrives at the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery five minutes before the arranged time, and in fear of appearing rude, he loiters outside in the cold, huffing out breathes of white air as he toes the ground and tries to stay warm. Then, six o’clock on the dot, he knocks on their front door.
The bakery is closed for Christmas Eve, but it doesn’t mean the interior looks less lively. In fact, the lights are brighter than usual, cheery and warm, and Adrien can almost feel the chill seeping from his bones just by looking at it.
Marinette opens the door for him. Her hair is tied up in a single ponytail instead of pigtails, and she’s dressed in a beige turtleneck paired with leggings and pink slippers.
The slippers, he’s now used to. The Dupain-Chengs didn’t have many things they were nitpicky about, but apparently wearing slippers around the house is one of them.
“Merry Christmas,” Marinette grins, leaning upwards to press a kiss against his cheek. “My parents are just finishing up dinner, so we can wait for a little while until everything is done cooking. I’m so glad you could make it.”
He smiles back. “Me too. Are you sure your parents don’t need help in the kitchen…?”
Marinette waves her hands. “I’m going to say they’re good on their own, especially because—” she raises her voice and turns to the kitchen, “THEY JUST KICKED ME OUT SAYING I WASN’T NEEDED.”
Sabine laughs in response. “Darling, just relax! Your father and I have it handled.”
Marinette sticks out her tongue at the kitchen, looking unfairly adorable, before turning back to Adrien. “Um, in case you want to stay over for tonight as well we have an extra futon that you can use. My parents wanted you to stay and open gifts, at least.”
Adrien perks up at the mention of gifts, remembering his own mission. He holds out his left hand, previously hidden behind his back, and extends the small gift bag to Marinette. “Merry Christmas. I wasn’t… well, I’m not the best at gifts, so I hope you like it.”
“It could be Plagg’s rotten cheese and I’d like it if it were from you,” she whispers.
“That’s absolutely uncalled for,” Plagg’s voice hisses as he pokes his head out of Adrien’s collar. “I wouldn’t share my cheese anyway, so…”
Marinette rolls her eyes at his kwami. She and Plagg have an interesting relationship, to say the least. “Tikki has a present for you as well, you little gremlin, but your behaviour determines whether or not you receive it.”
Plagg blows a raspberry at her before hiding back into Adrien’s collar, and he shoots Marinette a sheepish glance. “You can open your present now,” he tells her. “I want to see your reaction.”
As skeptical as he is about the gift, it’s the truth that he’s excited—after spending five hours at the mall as Chat Noir, he had taken a bit of pride in what he had gotten. Marinette takes the bag from his fingertips.
It’s dainty and pretty, decorated as the marketed Christmas special. “Even the bag looks expensive,” Marinette jokes weakly.
Adrien honestly has no clue how much it had all cost. He’d taken money out from the bank beforehand so it couldn’t be traced back to his identity and told Nathalie that he wanted to buy himself a watch. She’d barely questioned it.
Marinette tugs out the small box in the bag. She glances at Adrien with wide eyes. “Is this…”
“Open it,” he prompts, unable to stop the grin from sneaking onto his face.
She does so, peering at the necklace nestled inside. From where she’s standing and the downturned position of her face, Adrien can’t see her expression. But she doesn’t look up at him, only continues staring at the gift, and he’s hit with another wave of self-doubt. Had he really inherited his father’s bad taste for gifts?
“Um, Marinette? It’s okay if you don’t like it because honestly I didn’t really know what I was going for—”
She looks up at him. All the words stick to the back of his throat when he realizes her eyes watery.
Marinette’s crying. Had he made her cry? Was the gift that bad? Panic seeps into him like ice water in his veins.
“Uh,” Adrien manages out, though his brain is short-circuiting. “I’m—is it that bad? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean… I’m not great with presents and I can get you something else and—”
“No,” Marinette interrupts. “You idiot. This is… this is amazing. How did you even…”
Oh. Oh.
“You like it,” Adrien interprets correctly at last. “Oh.”
“Like it?” Marinette echoes incredulously. “Adrien, this is gorgeous and I don’t—I don’t even know what to say. I love it so much, seriously.” Gingerly, she lifts the necklace out of the box. On it dangles two charms: a neon green cat’s paw and a ladybug, both embedded with small gems that glitter an assortment of colours in the light—even the colours they are not. Adrien had gotten it customized at the most popular jewelry store he’d spotted at the mall. The girl working at the front had been skeptical (or maybe overwhelmed), but in the end she’d taken the offer. Adrien thinks dressing up in costume probably had something to do with it.
“Do you want to put it on…?” he asks, slightly hesitantly.
Marinette’s entire face light’s up. “Yes, please,” she grins, lifting the chain out to hand to him.
Carefully, Adrien brushes aside stray strands of hair. His fingers shake a little around the clasp, but after a few fumbles he manages to clip it together.
“There,” Adrien breathes, as Marinette turns around and lifts the charms on the tips of her fingers. Her mouth forms an O. “It’s so pretty. Did you… wait, did you get this customized?”
He smiles sheepishly. “Maybe.”
She leans up on her tiptoes and presses another kiss against the cheek. “Tell me it wasn’t that expensive.”
Adrien has no idea what constitutes as expensive, so he says, “Not really.”
Marinette sighs. “Alright. Please don’t feel obliged to get me big gifts. I didn’t—um, well, I didn’t get something nearly as intricate but I did make you something and I think—well, I hope—you’ll like it.”
He’s pretty sure his heart swells at that, but he keeps his cool. “I’m excited to see what you’ve got,” Adrien tells her, and Marinette takes his hand and tugs him towards the couches. “Like you said—you could’ve gotten me a slice of Plagg’s half-eaten camembert and I’d still be happy.”
“Shut up,” Plagg hisses from inside his shirt.
Marinette plops down on the couch with a laugh. “Thankfully, it’s a little better than that. But still, Adrien—nothing too fancy in the future, okay?”
“Marinette!” Sabine’s voice comes from the kitchen. “We’re almost finished, so set the table, please!”
Adrien glances at the kitchen, then leans in to whisper, “Is this a bad time to mention I bought your parents that new stove you said your mom wanted? It’s arriving via shipping tomorrow afternoon.”
Marinette lets out a noise of disbelief and mock exasperation in the back of her throat. “What are we going to do with you?” she asks. “C’mon, pretty boy, let’s go set the table and we’ll figure it out later.”
